Kaffeehaus Wittekind in Halle (Saale)

The atmosphere before the Christmas was very cozy! We went there for the family dinner and the service and food was excellent! Highly recommend- crunchy chicken bowl - very well presented and delicious

Unfortunately, our last visit to the Wittekind Café was disappointing. The food wasn't convincing for the price: very little sauce, hardly any greens on the plate, and the venison roast wasn't very tasty. Furthermore, the restroom was anything but inviting. There were many paper towels lying on the floor. The dispenser was inadequate, and it looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for three days. And there were very few customers at the time. This is especially unfortunate, as we've had good experiences there in the past. This time, however, it just didn't work out.

A great café and restaurant, stylish, very friendly service & delicious food. You can easily spend several hours here. Definitely worth a visit!

A very nice and cozy café! The cake was delicious. They offer a wide selection of dishes and, especially in winter, many specialty coffees. The waiter was very friendly. We'd love to come back to try the dinner!

We ate there on October 24, 2025, and what a meal it was! 😍 Carpaccio, homemade fries, and cake!! We haven't eaten this well in ages!! Fresh, regional ingredients whenever possible, and top-notch service!! If they added pork from Leicoma to the menu, we'll be back even more often!! Keep it up!!

We come here regularly; the service is excellent, and the staff is incredibly friendly and polite! The ladies who sell delicious breads, pastries, cakes, tarts, and so on are always charming. The food, breads, salads, pasta, cakes, and drinks—everything is always of high quality. The prices are reasonable. It's not cheap for the region, but quality comes at a price. Overall, as a guest, you can tell that everyone here enjoys the concept and is obviously always thinking about how they can do something good for their guests. Great! Please keep it up!

The decor and the general atmosphere were very good. Everything was clean and tidy. The cakes are amazing, and there's a huge selection. The drinks, such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and shakes, were also delicious. The service was friendly, young, and attentive. It's very well located. The baked goods were also fresh. The prices were reasonable. Overall, it's a fantastic café/restaurant. I highly recommend it, and I'd be happy to come back.

Very good dinner, formidable service and impressive ambience!

First of all: the seating is very pleasant; the café has been lovingly restored. The cake selection is excellent, and the quality of both the cake and the food is excellent. Now for the but: we waited 45 minutes for our order (coffee and cake) only to be told by the server that two of the four cakes we ordered were sold out. Unfortunately, that's not good service; such orders should be communicated in advance. The explanation was that other people had ordered before us... unfortunately, the service is not good value for money. Incidentally, we always had long waits on all four visits so far, even when the place wasn't busy.

It's massively understaffed. One person (very friendly) for the entire terrace is far too few. We had to wait 45 minutes.

We were there for breakfast on September 14, 2025. The quality of the ingredients was very good, and the quantity was absolutely sufficient, but I expected that given the rather high price of €24.50 for the mixed breakfast with cheese and sausage. Drinks like juice or coffee have to be ordered separately. It was a shame that we had to wait about an hour for breakfast despite having a reservation. Apparently, there were a lot of pre-orders... But hey, isn't a reservation also something like a pre-order!? Because of this, there was no attention from the staff. The staff was friendly, but they could have asked more often if anyone wanted any drinks. The ambiance is harmonious, but the lighting with the stylish lamps is too dim for reading the menu, and the long bench is simply worn and needs reupholstering. My conclusion: The potential is there. But to do this, the service and facilities must be adapted to the ambitious demands, or the price must be significantly adjusted downwards.

Completely satisfied with the large breakfast for two. Super-fresh breads with delicious toppings. Cozy, well-kept atmosphere and very attentive, friendly service. The price, well, quality has its price.

We had pasta and a sandwich with homemade fries. It was really delicious and we were full. I also got a slice of vegan chocolate cake, which wasn't too sweet but was absolutely chocolatey. We had a lovely seat in the beer garden under the fig trees. 100% feel-good factor. Highly recommended!

The Wittekind coffee house really surprised us in a positive way – we spontaneously stumbled in one evening to grab an ice cream on the warm summer evening. 🍨 The atmosphere was incredibly cozy and relaxed, a great place to unwind. The staff were also super friendly, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Absolutely perfect for a quick stop; we left feeling extremely satisfied. A little recommendation from us!

We only had a lemonade, and the friendly waiter gave us a great tip on how to keep the wasps away. Thanks for that. I really like the note on the menu about using your phone loudly, etc. All restaurants, cafes, and ice cream parlors should do that.

We were absolutely thrilled on our first visit – the ambiance, service, and cakes had all impressed us. Unfortunately, we couldn't confirm this positive impression on our second visit. Although we were seated inside and were seen, we weren't served for over 20 minutes. In the end, we left disappointed without ordering anything. It's a shame – we hope things will be better next time.

Delicious stuff, but street sales are a disaster. It takes forever, with only one person there, and it really takes years. It needs to be improved urgently!

The prices are rather high (€2.30 per scoop) and not really commensurate with the quality of the ice cream. The difference in taste compared to other ice cream vendors is rather minimal. The service was decent, even if we felt more like annoying supplicants than guests. The ambiance, however, is convincing across the board.

Simply a great place, really great.

The terrace is a lovely place to sit, the service is excellent, the waitresses are very friendly—a coffee house that doesn't get any better. The coffee and cakes are excellent! The location is perfect; we easily found a parking space, and in just a few minutes you're on the Saale River. With children, you can also quickly reach a playground in a historic park.

We often go here to get coffee or ice cream to go due to a lack of other options in the neighborhood, but unfortunately, when it comes to street vendors, you almost always feel like you have to apologize before ordering. The sales staff often seem overwhelmed and stressed, even on a normal weekday afternoon :(

We went there on the recommendation of another restaurant owner and didn't regret it. We sat outside on the terrace. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and quick. They even came to our table occasionally to ask if everything was tasty and whether we were satisfied. Finally, a café/restaurant that still knows its stuff and makes its guests feel welcome. The food—we had aspic with crunchy potato salad and pasta aubergine, along with homemade iced tea—was amazing! Thanks again to the entire staff; we absolutely loved it.

Very long wait times for food on weekends. Reservations are recommended for breakfast/lunch on weekends. It's a great place to go for cake with parents or grandparents; there's an exorbitantly large selection of cakes.

The guests' food looked great. However, I didn't have much luck with my Swedish ice cream sundae. Aside from a few small blobs of applesauce, my ice cream had nothing in common with a Swedish sundae. For €11, it was also rather tiny. I'll be getting my ice cream elsewhere in the future.

Yes, I recommend it in principle. The ambiance is really great. But I'm disappointed with the value for money. The cake was brought to the table wrapped in foil. Maybe that was supposed to keep the cake fresh?! But it didn't. The service staff was polite and courteous.

The pricing is only partially understandable, or rather very high. The breakfast is undoubtedly delicious, but when the €25 cheese plate offers semi-hard cheese that I could also buy at a discount store (St. Albray or Scheiben Old Amsterdam), you do wonder whether Wittekind considers itself to be fine dining or not. The bread was homemade and very tasty, but for that price, the rest of the plate should be too! The café is dark but cozy; unfortunately, the noise level quickly increases with many customers, and it gets quite loud.

We ordered food for 70 euros, and it was way too salty. Half of it was inedible because it was simply too salty.

We hosted our wedding dinner at the Wittekind coffee house – and it was simply perfect! From the first contact to the end of the celebration, we felt well looked after. The communication in advance was friendly, binding and professional. Our menu wishes were implemented exactly, and on the day itself everything was perfectly prepared: the tables were stylishly set in white, the food was served on time and at the same time for everyone - and it was consistently delicious! We would particularly like to highlight the attentive and warm service, which was always present but never intrusive. Our guests were thrilled, and so were we – and we can wholeheartedly recommend the Wittekind coffee house. A beautiful place with excellent service and excellent food. Thank you for this unforgettable day!

A wonderful place to escape from everyday life. The Café Haus Wiedekind impresses with its special charm, a loving atmosphere and a harmonious overall concept. The homemade cakes are incredibly fresh, creative and prepared with a lot of love. Particularly noteworthy is the friendly, attentive team, which makes your stay something personal. A real gem in Halle, I always like to come back here.

Gem in Halle near the Saale. Very tastefully furnished in a renovated Art Nouveau building. In the tradition of the famous Café Schade, which many Halle residents still know. Great cake, like New York Cheesecake. :) Very attentive service!

We have a little something - wild garlic cream soup as a starter, which tasted very good. The selection of cakes is very extensive and the friendliness of the service staff is very pleasant.

The ice cream should not be delivered late

We visited the Wittekind bakery with my wife and were well received by professional and very friendly service. The prices are reasonable, but unfortunately the pastries did not live up to our expectations. The macaron, for example, was dry and so hard that we couldn't finish it, although the pistachio ganache was delicious. We tried other pastries, but none of them appealed to us: it lacked that gourmet and generous side that we expect in this type of sweet treat. It's a shame, because the service was pleasant, but in the end, we don't think we'll come back.

Das Lokal sehr sehr gut von außen und innen aus, die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, aber das Essen und die Preise entsprachen in keinster Weise den Ansprüchen. Schlechte Qualität und viel zu hohe Kosten. Kalbsschnitzel sah aus als käme es aus der Friteuse, war hart und lediglich ein Schnitzel, die zugehörigen Pommes sahen aus wie Süßkartoffel waren dunkelbraun , wären aber handgeschnitten mit Schale, das Ganze für 36 €, eine Katastrophe. Spaghetti al oilio für 17 €, serviert in einer kleinen Schüssel, was noch nicht einmal ein Kind gesättigt hätte. Die völlig überzogenen Kosten mögen daher rühren, dass sich das Restaurant im Umbau befand und die Kosten wohl auf die Gäste übertragen wurden. Sehr ansprechend sah die Kuchenauswahl aus, leider ungeeignet für ein Abendessen.

We were only in the little shop to get bread etc. We arrived at 5:30 p.m. and it was “actually” already closed, but the nice saleswoman was happy to open the door again. She was extremely friendly and explained all the products to us in a calm manner. Great service. And everything we bought was incredibly delicious, from bread to spreads and even cakes.

We stopped here for lunch on this gray Wednesday. Were warmly welcomed and served. Had a good sandwich and drinks. Everything was fine. However, the fries were homemade with the skin on. We will be happy to come back!

Basically a nice restaurant with a nice ambience, the seating urgently needs to be changed. The sofa and bench are dirty and terribly worn out. Food was ok, unfortunately far too little for our men. What is absolutely not right is the prices are above average and simply not enough. Also not okay, at 12 euros for a glass of wine there should be 0.2l in the glass and no less. UPDATE on the owner's comment: What I will never understand is that the operator is incapable of criticism. The upholstery definitely needs to be replaced, especially if dirt can no longer be removed, as a guest this is unacceptable at these prices. And the calibration mark on the wine glasses is at 0.2l POINT. It was nice that the operator sat at our table and knew how much wine was in the glass. So please accept criticism and not discuss it!

Prinzipiell ein schönes Lokal mit schönem Ambiente, es sollte mal dringend die Bestuhlung geändert werden. Sofa und Sitzbank sind dreckig und furchtbar durch gesessen. Essen war ok leider für unsere Männer viel zu wenig. Was absolut nicht passt sind die Preise überdurchschnittlich teuer und dafür einfach zu wenig. Auch nicht in Ordnung, bei 12 Euro für ein Glas Wein sollten auch bitte 0,21 im Glas sein und nicht weniger. JPDATE zum Kommentar des Besitzers: Was ich nie verstehen werde ist das der Betreiber nicht kritikfähig ist. Die Polster müssten definitiv erneuert werden, gerade wenn Schmutz nicht mehr entfernt werden kann, als Gast ist das bei diesen Preisen nicht hinnehmbar. Und die Eichmarkierung auf den Weingläser ist bei 0.21 PUNKT. Schön das der Betreiber mit an unserem Tisch saß und weiß wieviel Wein im Glas war. Also bitte mal Kritik annehmen nicht diskutieren

Das Essen ist sehr zu empfehlen. Der Preis lohnt sich wirklich sehr, wenn man sieht wie lecker das Essen ist.

We went to the Wittekind coffee house because we wanted to invite guests there in the new year and wanted to try out what it was like beforehand. First of all noted; The food was excellent and really worth the high price. The two of us had reserved a table, were there 5 minutes early and were promptly asked to go outside again to wait; which was very uncomfortable at -1°C. Back inside, we sat at the front of the entrance and observed with some surprise how unclear it was about who greeted the newly arrived guests; this constantly caused unnecessary confusion. Personally, I prefer it if the service staff corresponds to the price level of the menu; is dressed uniformly and neatly and does not wear jeans and sneakers. Above all, the service should be polite, courteous and well organized and it wasn't. According to the artist, the art on display is about “making the invisible visible.” We think it could have remained hidden.

Trotz Vorbestellung war kein Tisch frei. Es wurde Platz geschaffen, leider direkt an der Tür, so dass wir die ganze Zeit neben wartenden Gästen saßen. Das Essen ist gut, der Service dauert auch bei Getränke sehr lange. Ich würde wieder hingehen, aber noch stärker auf einen Sitzplatz nicht im vorderen Bereich achten.

It was my first time here and I found it very nice: furnishings, attention (also for my dog), delicious iced coffee, lime cheesecake, very friendly service, good advice on sparkling wine. Prices a bit high, but so much staff has to be paid, So everything is in the green

We ate there today and it tasted really great and delicious. However, several points deducted for the service. You will be thrown out and forced to pay when it gets close to closing time (30 minutes) beforehand! In addition, you receive poor service. Cutlery is passed across the table and is unfriendly. Really bad service for this high restaurant location!
