Kachelofen in Bamberg

We tried twice to get a table just for a drink. The first time, we were asked to leave in a very unfriendly manner because it was lunchtime. The second time, we were asked to leave somewhat more politely, with the suggestion that we could enjoy our drinks outside. With sub-zero temperatures, that wasn't for us. Thank you for your hospitality. Thank you for that.

It was delicious. We were served despite having a reservation.

This was our first time here. The service was friendly, fast, and very impressive. The food arrived quickly (three Franconian bratwurst with fried potatoes and sauerkraut). It tasted great. We disagree with some customer reviews claiming it's a tourist trap. Keep up the good work, we'll be back. Highly recommended.

I can absolutely recommend it. The restaurant was full, many tables were reserved, but the staff still found a table for the two of us. The food was delicious 😋.

It's incredibly cozy there. Typical Franconian, hearty food and beer. Nobody goes hungry or thirsty there. When I was there, Germany's most capable politician was sitting at the next table: Markus Söder. He was clearly enjoying his meal. He was well disguised, but I recognized him immediately. His bodyguards noticed him too; they were really alert and doing a fantastic job. I should also mention that the female waitresses are very attractive and attentive.

We went in on a whim and were given a seat with the promise that someone else would be joining us at our table. And that's exactly what happened, but over delicious food and good beer, we quickly struck up a conversation and had a fantastic evening by the tiled stove.

The food is Franconian, very tasty, and impeccable. However, it's disconcerting that—even though there are still free tables—strangers are seated at the same table without being asked. We were eating and had to accept that strangers sat right next to us. A definite no-go for us, especially when there are still free tables.

The food is delicious and plentiful; I personally recommend the house specialty, a mixed grill of various meats, all very tasty (and it comes with potatoes and salad). The atmosphere is lively and local. Highly recommended.

Despite its quaint atmosphere, this place is a textbook tourist trap and therefore absolutely not recommended. The service is, with a lot of goodwill, just about tolerable, but the food is a complete disaster. Apparently, they can get away with it because enough tourists keep coming in, none of whom will return. In short: a complete disappointment right in the heart of the old town. Truly infuriating.

A quaint, popular restaurant. At lunchtime, all the tables were quickly occupied, and in typical local fashion, guests were seated together with other diners. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food arrived promptly and was delicious. The prices were reasonable.

Great Franconian cuisine, great ambience and friendly service.

The food was really delicious. The atmosphere was great, and the servers were nice. Even though we went after 2 p.m., there were still quite a few people there.

We wanted to have a cozy meal here with four people. After politely asking if there was room for four, we were treated very rudely and bluntly told that everyone had to eat. It's the tone that counts! We moved on. After all, there are more restaurants with friendly staff in Bamberg.

The food was truly delicious, but I have to highlight the atmosphere. Amazing, great service, great people, and a wonderful ambiance.

During our weekend visit to Bamberg, we ate dinner at the restaurant (outdoor area) twice. The food was very good and tasty each time, with generous portions and presentation. Despite the large number of guests (locals and tourists), you can sit comfortably outside and watch the hustle and bustle. Our server was very friendly, professional, and very quick. Thank you and keep up the good work! It's a pleasure to be in a restaurant.

Highly recommended. We had Schäufe (pork shoulder) and Sauerbraten (sauerbraten), which was very good.

The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. The atmosphere was nice. The meat dishes seemed good. Since I don't eat meat, I ordered pasta with mushrooms and Parmesan cheese. I wouldn't recommend it; the pasta was overcooked and the mushroom sauce tasted like a pre-made sauce (it wasn't a pre-made sauce, but it tasted like one to me). I couldn't taste the Parmesan at all. I was quite disappointed with the dish. My partner had a meat dish and was satisfied.

In principle, yes, great food and a nice location, but the staff is beyond unfriendly and gets personal. They practically sent us out after an hour and demanded our bill. So far, so good. But when the waiter became even more unfriendly and addressed us personally, we quickly left the restaurant in disgust. It's a real shame. The waiter tried to smooth things over, but the second waiter started a conflict again, even though we had already left. We felt like they didn't want us as guests. It's a real shame, but the food was really good.

Good food, even when it was busy. There were five of us there, and we weren't sure whether the food was worth the extra money. For the most part, yes, and combined with good service, it's definitely worth recommending.

We stopped by this restaurant. The weather was beautiful, and we sat on the terrace in the square. It was very busy, but that didn't bother us. They served light beer, Schäuferla (a kind of sausage), and apple strudel. For a treat, we had "Flying Muh," a Jägermeister with milk... sooooo delicious! The service was very friendly and accommodating. The quality was also top-notch! We'd love to come back! Thank you🫶

Even during rush hour on weekend evenings, we received prompt and friendly service. The service was truly excellent. The food and drinks were also very good. It was a bit noisy, but that's to be expected on Sandstraße.

We've been coming to Bamberg for 15 years, always on Sundays to finish off with a meal at Kachelofen. Today we were kicked out. We ordered three dishes and had a few drinks. Then a new waitress came over. We ordered three drinks. We were asked about our food. Since we were already having our dinner, the lady said we had 30 minutes. After 10 minutes, a reservation was placed on the table, and we had to leave, even though there were other tables available. Thanks, Kachelofen, we'll be back in Bamberg, but no, Kachelofen. 👎

The ambiance is great, the service is super fast, but not friendly, rather hectic. You're "fed up" in the tiled stove. It's a shame, really...

First we waited forever for the waiter, then we were sent away because it was "dinner time" and we just wanted a beer. That's one way to scare customers away...

The Kachelofen Inn in Bamberg impresses with its truly rustic and cozy ambiance, where you immediately feel at home. Of course, the famous smoked beer was a must during my visit – it wasn't quite my cup of tea, but you should definitely try it! For starters, I had liver dumpling soup, which was excellent, and for the main course, I tried the equally famous Schäuferla (a kind of dumpling) – absolutely delicious. The service was very friendly and attentive, which rounded off the whole experience perfectly. All in all, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bamberg. It was especially nice that we were there during the Kerwa (funfair), and the streets around the inn were bustling with life – a fantastic experience! 🍺🥘

The waitress was very rushed and rude, refusing to speak English with the foreign guests at the next table, which was incomprehensible given the international clientele and the limited vocabulary one needed. Prices were very high, but that's also due to the location in the middle of Sandstraße.

A traditional and rustic restaurant in the heart of Bamberg. Schäufele (pork shoulder) and knuckle (ham hock), along with everything else Franconian cuisine has to offer. Combined with good beer and friendly service. We had a misunderstanding when ordering beer, and the beer was immediately exchanged. 👍

The food is okay, but the service was rather annoying. The beer is poured like a slug—lots of foam, little substance—and at a steep price. The value for money is disappointing.

We stopped by for dinner and received a friendly welcome. The inn is small, very quaint, and cozy, just as you'd hope. We had, among other things, the Franconian platter for two people, which was more than enough. The food was good, but could have been hotter for my taste. Perhaps they stood at the pass too long before they were served to the guests. I was impressed by the staff. They were super friendly, always quick to make a good joke, and incredibly on the ball to ensure all guests were satisfied. High respect for this excellent service! A definite recommendation, and we'd be happy to come back.

Great food and drinks. The food was excellent. We had the Sauerbraten, Wiener Schnitzel, and Leberkäse with fried potatoes. Everything was excellent. Even the ketchup and mayo for our daughter were generously provided, and not just in a stingy packet. The service was very friendly and competent. We'd be happy to come back.

We went to Kachelofen with a group of 12 and received absolutely outstanding service. From the moment we called for the reservation through the meal the service by Christian was incredible. He took care of all the beer drinking adults and the many kids with attentiveness and a fun sense of humor. It is rare to see someone enjoy their job like he did. The food was excellent with hearty Franconian portions for a very reasonable price. Wish we lived closer by to go more often.

We were there for work with our colleagues and guests. The tiled stove is one of the culinary spots that showcases Franconian hospitality at its most unfiltered. The food is always perfect, juicy, tender, and tasty, typically Franconian :-) The service is super fast, and the drinks are at the perfect temperature. A definite recommendation!

Typical pub service; the staff has been in the business for a long time and is no longer overly friendly, but adequate. A must on any visit to Bamberg.

Very tasty food and super friendly service staff - despite being full.

Unfortunately, this place couldn't earn any more stars because we were kicked out and insulted because we only wanted a drink and nothing to eat. You could probably read about it in the tourist information and online. That's never happened to me in my decades of experience as a guest.

Already eaten more than 10 times and what a great place this remains with good staff. Fast service and delicious food!!!! When you are in Bamberg and want to eat delicious, good, a lot, cozy. Go here :)

The best "Schäufele" (shoulder of pork) in town! Crispy, tender, and traditional. A well-coordinated, fast team and very friendly service round out the experience. We always enjoy eating here.
