Joseph-Roth-Diele in Berlin

we came at 8pm for a dinner. After 20 minutes of waiting we were told that we should to make order at the desk . That’s was ok. At the desk we were told that the kitchen works only until 19-30!!!! it is Germany and now it’s too late. I‘ve never seen a kitchen until 19-30 in other places or even cities in Germany and I‘m not sure that’s ok to tell this in 20 minutes. Interiors was nice, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t come here one more time.

If there should be a place in Berlin where you can feel what Berlin has always been in your heart, then it is this restaurant. Hardly visible from the outside, when you enter the dining room you go on a journey through time. I've been to Berlin several times with friends and I always bring them to this place. And there is always the feeling that it is the only place in Berlin where you really come home. For me, the Joseph Roth Diele is the best restaurant in Berlin because it gives you the feeling of really understanding Berlin in terms of literature, cuisine and the interior design.

Einfach grandios. Eine Insel mitten in Berlin. Schwäbische authentische Gerichte zu sehr sehr ehrlichen Preisen. Der Raum, die Abläufe rund um Bestellung und Bezahlung - einfach alles very special. Meine Linsen mit Spätzle waren köstlich!

Were here to go to the Wintergarten Varieté later in the evening - which is directly opposite. The restaurant makes a very rustic, cozy and authentic impression. There are exhibits and exhibits hanging everywhere that provide information about the life of Joseph Roth. The restaurant is very popular, you should definitely make a reservation here. The menu is located directly on a large, decorative display in the entrance area and the order must be placed at the counter yourself. The seating is made of wood and is close to each other, but still comfortably close enough. It is a bit drafty in the entrance area. The service was friendly and the food came out of the kitchen very quickly. The portion sizes are more in the middle - if you're particularly hungry, you can order a dessert ;-) We had beef goulash and veal goulash with spaetzle. The spaetzle was fried crispy. Although we found it unusual, it still went well with the dish. The goulash melted in your mouth. Delicious! You can pay by card here from €15. All in all, a nice, pleasant evening in a trendy restaurant, which is easily accessible via the Kurfürstenstraße subway station or the M85/M48 bus stop.

Good German cuisine with a daily menu. Desserts like cold dog are not only original, but also delicious. Orders have to be placed at the counter yourself, this is certainly due to the lack of staff - otherwise the service is perfect and the kitchen is great.

We visited the restaurant after visiting the picture gallery and were very impressed. The menu (slate board) is very manageable, but the dishes were tasty and very adequately portioned. Delicious beer, pleasant wine, and French chansons in the background. The restaurant is lovingly furnished, somewhere between a French bistro and an old Berlin pub. Plus a very friendly service. Very good service and nice vibe, but the food is not that great. I had a Herring Sandwich and it was quite average. My wife had a schnitzel and it was too dry. Beer and cheesecake were great though.

I found the food neither outstanding nor bad. However, the spaetzle that was served with the schnitzel was disappointing - it didn't look or taste like real spaetzle. However, the restaurant itself is really cool, with beautiful decor that perfectly captures the Berlin charm. The ambience makes up for a lot, even if the food is just mediocre.

Aufgrund der positiven Bewertungen, haben wir uns Rindergulasch mit Spätzle bestellt. In den Bewertungen sind anhand der Fotos üppige Portionen zu sehen, was in Wahrheit aber nicht stimmt. Lediglich 3 Stücke Fleisch waren auf unseren Tellern, die Spätzle, sowie Soße (vermutlich mit Wasser gestreckt) schmeckten nach nichts. Absolut keine Empfehlung 👎🏼

Service inattentive, you also have to order at the bar. The spaetzle are dry and, with the best will in the world, don't taste like they're homemade. Portions rather small.

Old school gem. Happened upon this place for lunch. Good beer and food. We enjoyed the salad a lot and asked the server what was in it. She told us about the herb salt they used and where we could buy. At the end of our meal she brought us a little baggy of it to bring home.

We had a brilliant dinner at the restaurant. The service from the waiters and bar staff was outstanding, the traditional German food was delicious and the restaurant's location and atmosphere is fantastic. Highly recommended and we will definitely visit again next time we are in Berlin!

Very local atmosphere, and somewhat old world feeling in a good, cozy way. Much of the menu seemed to be specific to the day or time, and the three items we ordered were delicious and seemed very German.

You have to book to be sure of a table. it must be the "lonely planet write-up" effect. The decor is fascinating and the staff are very accommodating but sadly the food was OK but not up to the vibe that was promised. When we couldn't get a table the first night, we chanced on a place a little further down the road that had amazing food - Oh Panama!!!

The restaurant looks nice and cozy, it has a certain charm. The menu is placed at the entrance and you order directly at the counter. There is probably a changing selection of around 10 different dishes and it can also happen that at some point at the end of the day a dish is no longer available. So far everything is okay. The food is completely solid, but also not innovative. Unfortunately, I think the price-performance ratio is quite poor. The portions are just small. And when extra salad is mentioned as a side dish, I expect something more than literally just a few lettuce leaves. Furthermore, the dishes were taken away very quickly, even though you were just about to chew the last bite. That's not so bad, but it doesn't convey a cozy atmosphere either.

A small but nice restaurant. A super cozy, stylish place. Service very friendly and quick. Food (goulash) very good, not too much, but completely sufficient! Prices absolutely reasonable. Has potential to become a regular pub!! Keep it up, it's great with you!

Old and hard spaetzle, small portions of schnitzel fried with old fat. Beer tastes like iron pipe. Yes, once again a tragedy of German cuisine in Berlin..

Atmospherically unique and individual. Food is average, certainly not gourmet. Service staff is greasy and rude. The gentleman with the combed back black hair in particular is just outrageous. Tries to be funny in an impossible way and is just snooty and disdainful of the guests. We had made a reservation by phone the same day in the morning, but when we arrived there was no reservation for us.

Setting and atmosphere are nice. Only the schnitzel and perhaps the cheesecake are good. Portions are OK but definitely not generous. Service is terrible and the staff obnoxious.

I can't describe how much I fell in love with this place. The atmosphere is impressively pleasant, literary and photographic by Joseph Roth, there is wonderfully subtle French music, very tasty, down-to-earth food and extremely tasty beer from a stein are served. We'll be back, it's a real gem!

We were there for lunch over lunch. The food was very good. When you enter the Joseph Roth Hall you immediately feel good, you are greeted in a friendly way and you take a little journey back in time. A place you would like to come to more often. The small hunger at lunchtime made us visit this little gem of a restaurant, which looks absolutely inconspicuous from the outside. And everything was great. Choice of food, ambience, quality and price. An absolute recommendation.

Amazing restaurant, I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel with Spätzel and Salad. They were all amazing, the Schnitzel was big and delicious as well as the others, the Spätzel was homemade with a very good meat sauce. The service here is excellent, the waiters and staff are very friendly and the food arrived extremely fast. The ambience complements the traditional german look, you can read a lot of books and newspapers and appreciate the pictures that hang on the walls. I couldn't leave this restaurant without giving it 5 stars, I would definitely recommend it a lot

Excellent restaurant with a warm atmosphere and very smiling staff. The service was very fast and the typical German dishes were homemade (including spaetzle and desserts!) The menu changes every week while remaining very affordable (between €10 and €20). I highly recommend !

Feels as if you’re transported to yesteryear. Great traditional dishes at a reasonable price. I ordered the rinder goulash and cheesecake and was not disappointed in the least. The portions are just right for one person, so if your thinking of splitting, you’re out of luck. Loved the aesthetic and mood. Candles at each table and the colors were great.

We didn't plan this one at all. I'm not even sure how to describe it TBH. Rustic, cosy, interesting. The food was certainly really good and at a good price compared to a lot of the more mainstream places. We went at lunch, there was no menu, just a big specials board. It seems like it's pretty much all freshly cooked... amazing

Visited the Café with a friend ti shelter from the rain, I didn't know there was such a cozy Café on this street. The old fashioned charm was still there with the photos of Roth himself and his books. The dim light of the place transports one from the hustle and bustle of Berlin to a place that one would take time to just sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. There is a very hight chance that the Café is full as it doesn't offer a lot of seating, but worth the visit. The schnitzel was perfectly alright, not the best, but I guess the atmosphere compensates for it. The service was really nice, and the staff charmingly old fashioned.

Essen gut, Dame des Hauses etwas unfreundlich, typisch deutsch, Kartenzahlung deaktiviert und noch Vorwürfe an Kunden. Temperatur im Lokal 17 Grad gemessen und viel zu kalt. Heizung war auf 1 die ganze Zeit.

La comida es barata y está muy buena. El servicio no habla mucho ingles pero son amables y te atienden muy bien. El bar por dentro tiene una decoración muy bohemia y la música genial.

Es un sitio típico alemán muy acogedor y con decoración de su época. No nos hizo falta reservar, la atención muy buena, la comida excelente y el precio justo y normal. Muy recomendable!!

It is a nice authentic place. The staff are polite but not very friendly tbh. The food was average and a bit overpriced (food was not cheap in Berlin overall) but I understand that they charge mostly for the nostalgic atmosphere and the history of the place. Overall it's okay to try it one time.

Location als solche ist hervorragend. Leider wird schon um 22 Uhr geschlossen. Die Küche wird sehr früh geschlossen und nicht immer ist alles verfügbar. Man merkt durchaus, dass wir in Krisenzeiten leben.

I attended this lovely institution with two of my closest associates. We were delighted with the meal, particularly the homemade spätzle and veal schnitzel, everything else was marvellous as well. Bravo.

I came here as a solo diner and had no reservation. I was seated fairly quick. I visited on a Wednesday evening and there were still tables available at 7 when I walked in (kitchen closes at 7:30 on Wednesday). The menu, as others have shared, is on a board when you walk in. You order at the bar area, at the little booth. Both men who were working did not speak English, but they were welcoming. I ordered the spätzel and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not well-versed in German cuisine but like I said, I really enjoyed my dinner. Portion was perfect. I ate slow (was there for 2 hours!!), enjoyed my beer, and was able to watch the live 3 piece music group (bass, violin, guitar). I did not feel rushed (maybe because kitchen was already closed by the time I finished eating?). the atmosphere was cozy. Wish I knew the German language so I could learn more about the text written on the walls and also ask questions about the books and pictures. It was really lovely. I’d recommend this place and I’d return if given the opportunity in the future!

Ich war heute auf Empfehlung eines Freundes zum Abendessen hier. Das Konzept ist eigentlich recht einfach. Man sucht sich einen Tisch, sucht sich was aus der Karte aus und bestellt dann an der Theke. Weil ich das leider nicht wusste, bin ich zuerst an die Theke um zu bestellen. Der Kellner war sehr zuvorkommend und verständnisvoll und hat mir dann einen Tisch zugewiesen. Der Service war auch sonst sehr schnell und höflich. Ich hatte das Rindergulasch in Pilzrahmsauce mit Spätzle, welches wirklich sehr köstlich war. Die Karte bietet auch ansonsten durchweg solide deutsche Hausmannskost. Die Einrichtung erinnert an eine Bar aus den 20er Jahren und ist auf das Werk von Joseph Roth ausgelegt. Ich fand es sehr stimmungsvoll und angenehm.

Sin duda el sitio en el que mejor hemos comido en nuestro viaje por Alemania. La Schnitzel es fina y de rebozado crujiente y el goulash tierno, sabroso y el acompañamiento de noodles caseros buenísimo! Tienen poca variedad de platos pero de calidad. Es un lugar acogedor, sugiero ir con antelación. De postre tienen tarta de queso alemana, que merece la pena probar

Gute preiswerte Küche ! Leider immer schwierig spontan einen Platz zu bekommen !

Schönes Ambiente, aber das Essen war leider nichts außer günstig. Zuviel Pfeffer, zu wenig Salz, ein mikroskopisches Stück Tofu, matschiges Gemüse und noch schlimmer: matschiger ingesalzener Reis. Schade.

Lieu très sympathique, personnel agréable et la nourriture est très bonne avec des prix abordables. Si vous aimez les ambiances un peu plus tranquille, je recommande. Seul défaut, on en mangerais presque une deuxième assiette!

Small portion sizes (besides the Schnitzel), be aware of that. Atmosphere is great here though! They have a playable piano in the corner that can be played during the day. Service is pretty good and friendly. Recommended:)

Sehr schöne Kneipe/Gaststätte, tolles Ambiente.

Ein wirklich außergewöhnliches Lokal. Es ist dem jüdischen Schriftsteller Joseph Roth gewidmet. (Daher auch der Name) Viele Artefakte und Zitate, die sich mit dem Leben des Schriftstellers befassen, sind in der Gaststätte ausgestellt. Die Einrichtung sowie die dezent eingespielte Musik orientiert sich am Stil der 20er und 30er-Jahre. Dadurch entsteht eine einzigartige Atmosphäre. Man wird sehr freundlich bedient und erhält gut bürgerliche deutsche Speisen zu fairen Preisen. Ein Besuch ist zu empfehlen.
