JaNi´s American Diner in Leipzig

Expensive in my opinion, but the portions are large. No service (self-service). The taste is okay, I would have expected more.

Highly recommended. If you're comfortable sitting outside, you'll have to accept self-service at JaNi's American Diner. (But that's perfectly fine.) The food was delicious and well-made.

Within a year, it's gone from a diner to a pub. The burger patties were as hard as shoe soles and half cold. You have to get your own food and drinks on the outdoor seating, and the friendliness is a very different story. It's a real shame how much the place has suffered. The only thing that's gone up, though, are the prices, and they're no longer even remotely good value for money.

Well... so-so... We started with the humorless remarks from the receptionist. The order itself was quick, but the food took a while to arrive. Expected a lot, got little. The burger was so-so... 4/10. The mac and cheese was okay. The fries were just standard. The milkshakes were good. But that's about it... We've had better food for less money...

This is what we imagine a diner to be like in America. Always happy to go.

We were thrilled to be able to visit JaNi's Diner. The ambiance is superb and a break from everyday life. So far, so good; the menu consists entirely of burgers, so there's plenty of room to specialize. The brioche was excellent. Unfortunately, the bun was very dry and just average. There's definitely room for improvement here. The self-service concept also meant I had to wait in line for 10 minutes. That has to be improved. There's a bar outside that could be used really well. You have a great location here; just try to up the ante. There's not much competition in Leipzig.

JaNis is a very nicely decorated American diner on a campsite, which is also accessible to all other guests. The prices are quite high, but this is also due to the quality of the food. The food was very tasty and arrived quickly, in keeping with the volume of guests. The only minor drawback is that you can't combine Mac & Cheese and other "appetizers" with the burger menu, which I believe was still possible a few years ago (at least my picture from earlier shows a small portion of Mac & Cheese next to the burger :D). But that's the only drawback; the rest of the menu is great. If the restaurant weren't so remote, we would combine it with trips to Leipzig more often, but as it is, it's a special occasion every few years. There are plenty of seats available both inside and outside. Nevertheless, reservations are highly recommended. The restrooms were clean, and they also provided hairspray and deodorant.

We went to the diner's outdoor area at 2:30 p.m. today to have an iced coffee. However, we missed the poorly placed notice to scan the menu using a QR code. Inside the diner, even though there were no customers present, the very unfriendly employee told us to go back outside to look at the menu. I thought I was in the wrong movie!!! That would be impossible in the States!!!

The price-performance ratio is simply not right. €120 for 2 adults and 2 children. However, it's self-service outside and the quality is just above snack bar level. The service also seemed overwhelmed (even though the blonde lady tried really hard) and the buzzer was mixed up several times. Mixed starters seemed like they'd been picked straight through the freezer. The burgers and spare ribs were OK, but not great. The veggie burger and fries were below average. The atmosphere inside is nice and authentically diner-like. Overall, I don't think the experience was good for the price. The kids didn't even finish their food (which never happens with this kind of food) and immediately said we wouldn't be coming back. Koolmans on the A9 is way ahead in every respect if you're looking for something like this... It's a shame, we've wanted to come here for a long time based on the sometimes euphoric reviews and were pretty disappointed.

The website and reviews alone should have put us off. We decided to go anyway and see for ourselves. It was an expensive and very tasteless test. The burgers were dry and, apart from a little too much salt, not seasoned at all. Our question about jalapenos was dismissed with "we're not Mexican." I would describe the spare ribs as the worst spare ribs I've ever eaten. The service was poor, and customer service is definitely not a priority there. A notice advertises that they're looking for staff, even unskilled, for service and kitchen, which certainly explains the prevailing quality. Not recommended.

Unfortunately, that was a non-starter. The ambiance was typically American, and the outdoor area was nice with the campers and the nature, but the burger, or rather both burgers, were really unacceptable for the price. My companion's conclusion was the same: A dry bun and a dry patty for such high prices. No thanks. Even MC tastes better.

€5 for a beer is pretty greedy. And the service wasn't exactly overflowing with hospitality. But for two days of rest, it seems to be enough.

We were really disappointed. I remember the diner from its old address, and it was great. No service outside, even though the weather was nice and the patio was covered. The burgers weren't worth all that money. I'm an amateur cook myself, but I can do a lot better. The warmth and passion are gone, too, which is a shame. I can't understand why it's become this way. I also feel there are far too many rules, just typical German. For me, a meal should be relaxed, without time pressure, and culinary perfect. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Another shame; I've always valued the place.

Upon entering, you stumble across a sea of ​​signs that oscillate between official humor and bureaucratic ballet. The service? Speechless, noticeably lacking in humor, and with a service speed that oscillates somewhere between "in a minute" and "we're closing soon." Anyone who wants to feel welcome here will have to bring most of their own warmth—or be comforted by the iced tea. It was actually really good, fresh, and aromatic. The burger? The taste was somewhere between "so-so" and "there have been worse." I felt sorry for the patty, which was swimming helplessly in dressing. The cheese fries were also a topic of discussion... Spotted it on the menu, my eyes lit up. But as soon as we ordered, the reaction was immediate: an annoyed eye roll and the comment that it didn't even exist – and was never on the menu, as if we'd wanted to order something truly unbelievable 🤡 And the coleslaw? Audaciously cut – visually somewhere between a pasta bake and a bad mood. The prices, on the other hand, happily dance around the level of "Instagrammable premium experience," while what was on offer tastes more like "summer camp with Wi-Fi." Conclusion: If you enjoy food faux pas, service scandals, and the romanticism of rules, you're welcome to reserve a table here – purely symbolically, that is. For everyone else: Better an iced tea to go – and then get out of there quickly.

It's become a tradition for us to go to the diner with the family on Father's Day. On our first visit a few years ago, we were all absolutely thrilled. The food was delicious American food in generous portions, with friendly service in a very pleasant and cozy atmosphere. Our dog was always immediately brought water, a dog bed, and a dog menu. The only thing was that the prices have always been high, but they were certainly justified. Unfortunately, we've become less satisfied with each year. This year, five of us went to the diner for lunch, and the situation has changed so much that I have to revise my original 5-star review. The food is still delicious and good, and the service is still great and friendly. Now, the negative points: - The portions seem to get smaller every year. On the first visit, you felt very full and well-fed, but now the identical burgers only come with five fries, and the entire burger and fries menu feels more like an appetizer than a full meal. - Instead of the regular menu, there was only a very, very reduced menu (3-5 finger food items, about 6 burgers, 2 different sausages and ribs) to choose from today on Father's Day. According to one sentence, the reduced menu is always valid on special days, although it doesn't specify which special days these are (you might want to check in advance if you're planning a visit in the future). In previous years, people have always liked to order a sandwich and a hot dog meal or mac & cheese (both individually and as a burger side dish). This is probably due to the holiday and the resulting reduced staffing, which is understandable in principle. But in an American diner, you expect a lot of visitors and sales, especially on Father's Day, so why they would employ so few staff, have such a reduced menu, and offer only self-service in the outdoor area is completely beyond me. - Finally, there are the prices. The above criticism would be quite bearable if the prices were typical for fast food. However, paying well over €100 for three burgers, one bratwurst, one rib, one ice cream, one shake, and a round of drinks is quite a lot. Especially if you leave the table feeling hungry afterward. Of course, you could have ordered the burgers with 500g of meat, but the total price would probably have been over €200, and that's simply no longer acceptable for fast food. We've also read some posts in other reviews about orders of four burgers and a bill of over €100, which is simply too much. This development is a real shame because we used to enjoy coming here, and the food, ambiance, and service staff are still great. But the very meager portions, combined with the very high prices and today's very reduced menu, definitely make the visit a less than positive experience.

Good, solid American diner. You get exactly what you expect. Solid, hearty, high-calorie American cuisine at reasonable prices. The furnishings were designed with a lot of love and dedication to detail. The service seems very motivated, committed, friendly, fast and courteous. When there was a birthday child at the next table, the entire diner staff (including the kitchen staff) came with a surprise and a fire of stars and sang a birthday serenade. The food came pleasantly quickly. Toilets very clean and tidy. Even in the toilets and in the toilet anteroom everything was designed in a very American way with a lot of dedication, patience and attention to detail. With the best will in the world, we didn't find anything to complain or criticize. It was a completely successful evening. As I said, everything was, as expected, very down-to-earth and rock-solid - exactly as we expected. Without a lot of frills, tam tam and extravagances, just good through and through: You get what you expect! *thumbs up*

We were thrilled with everything. Food, drink, service, ambience, cleanliness in the toilets - everything was top. An authentic American diner was conjured up in a rustic location. My magpie burger was great. Something different - burger with mushroom cap. Was exactly my thing. They even have their own merch and local honey. The website also shows other interesting activities. It's worth taking a look.

We ordered from home. Four burgers with fries. The first shock was the price of €104. The second shock was opening the packaging. Everything is just a mess. Only the fries were ok. I absolutely cannot recommend eating out here. I don't know who was responsible for handing out the food, but it certainly went wrong. One star could be given to the fries.

I had the Elster Burger 🍔, it was absolutely inedible. Neither the burger patty, which was sold to us as homemade, nor the bun... everything was a straight 6. I don't know where these good reviews come from. It just wasn't edible. The price is a complete disgrace. Never again, simply not recommended!!!! I'm happy to pay money for good food...104€ for 4 burgers with fries.

Food was good, I had a burger, but there are better ones, that's why only 4 stars. Very friendly staff. You feel like a regular guest, you are escorted to the table and served very quickly. Burgers very tasty. Cool idea: ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise at the table for self-service (as well as kitchen roll instead of expensive napkins). Also clever: just go to the reception desk to pay. Little tip: Maybe the table number. attach to the table (or on the small bucket). Food very tasty. Gladly again!!!

No free tables will be kept free for spontaneous guests. Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. all tables are supposed to be reserved. Unprofessional!!!

We were guests at the campsite and had fries to take away one evening, we paid the hefty price of €8.50, unfortunately the fries weren't cooked properly... The next evening we came back after a long day through the Leipzig Zoo and, as the advertising on the street promised, we wanted to take soft ice cream and iced coffee with us to the campsite. Unfortunately, apart from a snappy announcement from the waitress, "everything is full, that won't work if you don't reserve a table", we were thrown out again. Our conclusion: where you save money with friendliness and service, it will fall at your feet at some point!

You can actually say that this restaurant is a piece of the United States in Germany. The interior design, the ambience, it's just so beautiful. You feel a little closer to the USA. The food (noticeably also available in typical American sizes) was really delicious and served with flair. We would be happy to come back when the opportunity arises!

The citizens offered are more or less similar. In terms of taste, this is just below average. More expensive than other, better community stores. You can't taste any of the alcohol in the cocktails. Only tastes like juice/cola (depending on what you order). In terms of price, like the citizens, the cocktails are expensive and, considering that there was little alcohol in them (was there any in them at all?), far too expensive. Ambience is of course cool. But as a guest I read so many rules of conduct on how I should behave 🙈 typically German😅

I know diners from America and I have to say that this diner impressed me. The selection is plentiful and tastes really great. With heart and love in the preparation. Thumbs up and keep it up.

The burgers are a disaster! There were four of us and we each ate burgers. Three normal-sized 200g, one 500g. In all of them the buns were dry and cold and the paddy was cooked absolutely to death. Gray, dry minced meat, not a drop of juice left in it - disappointing! And in a diner. Every McDonalds burger is juicier.

Actually 6 out of 5 stars! The ambience is simply amazing - it couldn't be more American. The staff is in a good mood, super friendly and always attentive. What was particularly nice was that our little dog was there, and one by one everyone from the team came over to greet him. There was even a special “dog menu”! A huge thank you for this great evening. We'll definitely be back!

Typical American feast, a change from Greek, Chinese and Co. The dishes were great, there is enough choice for everyone, including vegetarians/vegans. The ladies are very, very friendly, extremely professional and the atmosphere there is first class. An absolute must visit for anyone who likes American food. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant. The food was disappointing and did not live up to expectations. In addition, the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The building is getting old and urgently needs renovation. What was particularly annoying were the excessive prices, which in no way corresponded to the quality offered. However, the staff should be highlighted positively: The service was nice and friendly, which unfortunately couldn't save the overall impression. Overall, there are significantly better alternatives in this price range. Sorry, but it's my personal opinion.

After a concert at Haus Auensee, we took the opportunity to have something to eat here. We had also pre-booked a table. If you don't show up, you'll be charged a no-show fee of 15 euros per person - a bit iffy in a diner! Well, there were all of us ;-) According to the unanimous opinion of our group of six, the food was nothing special. The burger buns were quite dry, almost crumbly. What I found much worse was the grilled burger pattie. That was really annoying because there was no enjoyment. The clear plastic tablecloth was sticky. The prices were quite steep for that (great cooking - which I'm happy to pay for, a burger really doesn't require anything, except maybe the pattie, which was far too dry). However, the service was very quick and friendly, for that 5 stars. My rating goes against the trend, sorry, but that's exactly how I experienced it!

The following review reflects our subjective impressions: Our visit was requested by a child who had a request for a restaurant, liked eating burgers and wanted to try a restaurant that was unknown to us. We arrived at 5 p.m. with 9 people (4 adults, 4 children under 8, 1 baby; a holiday Thursday in February) and had reserved well in advance. I can't say anything in detail about the reservation because it was taken over by other people in the group. Since the children were still storming the playground, we were about 10 minutes late - but the restaurant was still almost empty. It was only at this point that we were informed that we only had the table until 7 p.m. (i.e. 2 hours) and that the next guests would then need it. From this point onwards, the pleasantly planned gourmet evening was over and we were stressed. Eating out with small children is generally a challenge - even more so when there is a time limit. The tone of the service also seemed rather rough to us, in a less charming way. We felt rushed. The menu and the selection were ok for us, there are various children's menus. We see the prices in the upper midfield. The issue of drinks was problematic: the children's menus contained a small barrel of soda. However, if children don't like these, then most other drinks suitable for children can only be ordered from 0.5l. While they waited, the children were given pens and something to color in. The orders were served quickly, which is the most positive aspect of the evening. The food was ok, solid in quality and taste - but not a revelation. Eating out, which was supposed to be a small celebration for us, was not very enjoyable due to the time pressure. As parents, we have to feed, motivate the children to eat, mediate and maintain general order before we can eat ourselves. It's difficult to do this comfortably in 120 minutes (including arriving, choosing, ordering, waiting, eating, various trips to the toilet, getting dressed, paying). At 6:45 p.m. we were finally informed that we should pay and leave within the next 10 minutes. Not everyone had finished eating and drinking yet. That's just how it is with children and should have a place in a dinner in a diner. Actually, some people would have liked a dessert and/or hot drink, but that was now cancelled. Chewing and gulping down the remaining drinks that were almost full, we got dressed and cleared the field. Apparently the table had been reassigned for exactly 7 p.m. because the next guests were already waiting. [If we make a reservation for 5 p.m. and have 2 hours to spare, but the table is given away again at 7 p.m. - at what point is the clearing and cleaning scheduled?] We felt literally thrown out and scared away. This was not the beautiful experience we imagined for the wishing child and society. For us, personally, the price-performance ratio wasn't right.

We were there for a birthday dinner. The ambience takes you straight to the USA. The food selection is plentiful and the burgers are spot on. The original cheesecake was the crowning glory of the evening. Reservations are strongly recommended. The staff was super polite. We'd love to come back!

In general it was a really nice visit and I would definitely come back. The drinks just tasted good and you really couldn't complain. My problem, however, was the chili con carne, which firstly tasted very salty and was sometimes closer to bean soup than chili. Still a really great visit and I'm looking forward to the next time.

It was our first time here in this new location, but we already knew the diner. Overall, it was a very nice evening for our "extended family", the atmosphere is absolutely appealing, the dishes were very tasty and were stylishly prepared and served. Being on first name terms with the operators might be a bit strange for some people, but I think it's cool. The children were immediately provided with painting materials. There are still 2 points of criticism - therefore one star less for the service: It is not okay that you are not allowed into the restaurant with a stroller. If the dining room is overcrowded, you can point this out in person, but prohibition signs? What is absolutely impossible is the threat of a €15 fine if one of the reserved seats remains vacant. This has never happened to me at any other American diner.

The negative point is the really high price for simple food. The quality is good, but doesn't justify the price. The atmosphere is cool, the service is very nice and quick.

We ordered two surprise menus. It was super tasty and they were served up great by the chef. The other burgers were of course also highly recommended. It was very entertaining and we also had a nice conversation with the boss, Jana. We'll be back.

The ambience in the Janis American Diner is divided into two parts: downstairs you feel like you're in a typical diner, but the upper area is more reminiscent of a Texas roadhouse. For food: We ordered a 0.5l cola, 5 drumsticks and a baked potato. Unfortunately, with a total price of €24.20, no side dishes were included, not even a small salad or something similar. We find this disappointing given the high prices (5 drumsticks €10.60, 1 baked potato €8.50, 0.5l cola €5.10). The drumsticks were simple chicken thighs dipped in barbecue sauce. While the sauce was quite tasty, the chicken inside was unfortunately quite tasteless and tough. The baked potato was about the size of a hand and filled with sour cream, although the portions weren't exactly generous either. However, the cola was perfect. Overall, I wouldn't visit the restaurant again because I just wasn't impressed with the taste. But tastes are different – ​​you have to know…

Cool atmosphere and we were really pleasantly surprised. Really good for a restaurant on a campsite. Many guests also come here from outside the campsite. We recommend making a reservation for the evening as it is really busy. We were served very friendly and children are also welcome here and given something to paint/play with. Dogs get a cozy cushion on the floor and you can even order a dog menu, our four-legged friend pounced on it. Our food was also delicious and there were some very cool/unusual dishes and drinks. However, the prices are tough, so a star deduction.

A really nice atmosphere in this beautiful American wooden cabin, everything is already decorated in an American way and it really feels American. Great selection of food, there are small and large burgers that fill you up, it was very tasty and would recommend this restaurant😋
