Izakaya WATAPAS in Berlin

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Berlin. I’ve been here a couple of times and the food is always consistently good. The interior is also very original and feels like you’re in Japan. Prices are fair. Definitely recommend! :)

Excellent food and very nice place!

Excellent izakaya! The salmon sashimi was extremely tender, melding in the mouth. The takoyaki excellent, the sushi rolls beautiful and very tasty. The tempura shrimps very tender and yet very crispy! Could only recommend. The restaurant is also very beautiful and the service very good. Only negative point: what is a camembert sushi roll? Almost fell off my chair, how could you think that camembert and sushi could fit well together?!

Very nice shop with good service. Some of the food was really tasty, some of it wasn't so good. With tapas you can quickly add up to a higher sum and the prices aren't exactly cheap. All in all still good

I can only recommend the food. There are mostly Japanese people working there, in the kitchen anyway, an older gentleman who works very calmly and concentrates and conjures up the most beautiful things. The food is pretty authentic and the prices are okay. A little higher priced but perfectly fine for the neighborhood

Daar we bij vrienden in deze. uur verblijven, trachten we elke dag een andere restaurant hier uit te proberen. Izakaya zijn beter gekend als Japanse tapas. Iets waarmee ik mij de laatste jaren thuis ook graag me bezig hou in mijn keuken. Door de hoge notering op google toch enige verwachting die uiteindelijk niet echt werd ingelost. Ik zou liever nog een half punt meer geven, mocht dit kunnen, maar vier zijn er echt wel teveel. Service is vriendelijk, maar zeer klungelig. Als je niet kan onthouden welke tafel wat besteld heeft, dan kan je beter stoppen met mensen te bedienen. Ook kregen we eerste een tafeltje buiten aan de afzuiging van de keuken. Niet echt slim om daar tafels te zetten, als je weet dat er regelmatig gefrituurd wordt bij Japanse tapas. Gelukkig kregen we snel een andere tafel toegewezen. De taps waren redelijk van kwaliteit en uitvoering, maar bij bepaalde misten ze toch bepaalde zaken bij d uitvoering ervan. Andere waren dan wel zeer lekker, zoals de Bonito. De gefrituurde inktvis miste dan wel een echte Japanse dip. Een stukje citroen doet geen wonderen en hield geen steek. Ik ga ervan uit dat ze een nieuwe chef hebben en dat deze toch geen echte hoogvlieger is in d keuken. Op zich was alles vrij ongeïnspireerd, zoals de groene salade met zeewier (uit een pakje). De gekozen saké was vrij klassiek en misschien kunnen ze toch wat meer de bezoekers informeren over welke saké te kiezen bij de gerechten. Saké is een wereld op zich met zeer veel varianten. Moet je deze zaak voorbij gaan? Nee, zeker niet. Voor deze prijs heb je best goed gegeten. Maar zoals ik al eerder zei, voldeed het eten niet aan de persoonlijke verwachtingen.

The tapas here are absolutely amazing! The freshness of the scallop carpaccio is outstanding, and the crispy takoyaki is a must-try. The place itself is so cute, with a charming ambiance, and the service is incredibly friendly and kind. Perfect for a light dinner in Berlin!

Highlight: Salmon sashimi is very fresh, well cut and with nice amount of fattiness that goes really well with the wasabi (wasabi is also amazing) - Everything else we ordered is also very delicious. - Staff is very nice We will come again to try other dishes. :)

Great selection of Japanese tapas type dishes. We had 6 between the two of us. The food was fresh and authentic. I can recommend the octopus balls. They had a great selection of Sake. We tried two off the menu.

A really great restaurant and super friendly.

We've been to Watapas a few times now and every time I feel a bit like I'm on vacation in Japan. Here you can order several small things, all of which are delicious. Vegetarians can also find what they are looking for. There is also a nice selection of sake and you can also treat yourself to an Umeshu. So nothing stands in the way of a lovely Japanese evening.

No luck, lots of people that evening, dishes scattered and late but 5 stars all the same and I'm rather picky about ratings.....Reserve absolutely.

The quality of the food was very good. The service was top notch, super fast and always attentive. The atmosphere was super relaxed and you could have a good chat without disturbing others.

A proper Izakaya! All the staples are here and prepared freshly, right in front of you (get a seat at the counter for the authentic salaryman experience). Last but not least they serve shochu! Get an Oolong-hai!

A rare steamed Japanese izakaya tapas restaurant in Berlin🖤 The menu is diverse and the service is really fast. Although it is a relatively unknown place, it is a hidden gem!! 🫧 I ordered over 10 dishes and ate until my stomach exploded 😍 The chef and servers are both Japanese and very friendly.🍎 The menu is varied, so it's the best place for people like me who have a short appetite and want to eat a variety of dishes and drinks. After choosing the menu, I asked what would go well with it, and he recommended a good sake. It was the perfect pairing! The atmosphere is cute, the food is delicious, and there are a variety of drinks. I think it would be nice to go for a quick drink or for dinner. The inside of the store is small, so please make a reservation in advance. I highly recommend this store! Intention to revisit 100009% Recommended menu items are eggplant dish, agedashi dofu, and scallop dish! I was shocked that the scallops and grapefruit went so well together. I really like the place. The food and drinks were good and even though they were busy, the service was ok, but slow.

Das Essen war hervorragend, der Service super aufmerksam und das Ambiente toll und angenehm. Einziger Minuspunkt ist die eine einzige Toilette, die auch etwas spärlich ausgestattet ist.

Geschmacklich totaler Flop , Also das Essen hat mir und meiner Begleitung überhaupt nicht geschmeckt . Zudem ist die Speisekarte sehr unübersichtlich und man kuschelt so gesehen mit seinem Nachtbar Tisch .. schön und gut nie wieder ;)

According to my friend with whom I visited this was pretty authentic cuisine and it was totally delicious and good value for money would definitely come back here to try the other half of the menu. The tapas are good portions and you can fill up on a selection of dishes. dessert gave me exquisite nostalgia from my time in Korea

In einer Fernsehserie hatte ich gesehen, dass der Hauptdarsteller frittierte Oktopusbällchen gegessen hat. Da ich das auch mal probieren wollte, habe ich nach Restaurants gesucht, die das anbieten und bin auf das Izakaya gestossen. Das war wirklich eine gute Wahl, denn die “Japanischen Tapas” sind wirklich Klasse! Auch die Vielzahl an angebotenen Sakes und die super nette Bedienung sind Top! Ich komme auf jeden Fall wieder!

Sehr gute und authentische japanische Küche! Kleine Gerichte (japanische „tapas“), aber so sollte es auch sein - ein izakaya ist ein kleines Lokal, wo man Sake bekommt und dazu kleine Häppchen. Mmm, oishii desu! (Lecker ☺️) Ich empfehle takoyaki (Oktopus-Bällchen) und shime saba (marinierte Makrele), aber man kann eigentlich alles nehmen und sich durch das kleine, aber feine Sortiment probieren. Und viele gute Sake-Brands gibt es natürlich auch dazu. Und einen super Service. Arigatou gozaimashita Izakaya Watapas!

Casual Japanese with lovely food, staff, outdoor seating

Super liebevolle japanische Tapas! Alles mit viel Liebe angerichtet und sehr, sehr lecker! Meine Empfehlung: Rosa gekochte Entenstreifen mit delikater Sauce, gebratene Riesengambas mit feinem Rohkostgemüse, Gyozas mit Schweinefleisch. Sehr freundliche Crew und angenehmes, kultiviertes Publikum.

타코야끼 맛있었어요 고등어 맛있었어요 연어회 가격대비 좋았어요 하이볼은 잘은 모르지만, 잘 모르겠어요 장어롤과 새우튀김롤 먹었습니다만, 나쁘지는 않았어요, 장점은 밥인 좋았어요. 닭고기 튀김 위에 소스도 괜찮았습니다. 문어튀김 좋았어요. 조개완자 심심하니 좋았아요

Sehr gutes japanisches Restaurant mit (meines Erachtens) authentischer Küche, die einen dazu inspiriert neben Sushi mal etwas Neues zu probieren (z.B. die frittierten kleinen Süßwasserfische). Faires Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Besonders lecker war der Thunfisch mit Avocado, dazu die Sake-Empfehlung des Hauses. Mini-Manko: Die Stühle könnten etwas bequemer sein (Kissen auflegen?).

Probably the Japanese Izakaya in Berlin which offers the highest value for your money. Really affordable snack sized dishes of fried seafood (recommend) and sushi. Watapas has around 15 different sakes available to try. The Izakaya has the correct atmosphere but the service could be better, I assume they just hired two new workers that had both a shift the evening I was there. I recommend this place if you are looking for some affordable Japanese food that is not just sushi rolls or ramen.

I fully emerged in the cozy comfort zone in the restaurant. The food was delicious and tasty. Totally recommend on Japan kitchen. Love it. The staff is amazing!!!

had a great experience there! i can’t tell if it’s authentic japanese kitchen but i do think it is. i definitely loved the pork gyoza the most! ordered some sushi rolls as well and they had some special combinations such as unagi camembert roll, definitely will go there again!

Grossartiges Essen und netter Service, was will man mehr? Wirklich gute japanische Küche , v.a. sehr guter Sushireis, woran es bei den meisten Läden scheitert. Hier jedoch nicht. Wir genießen es jedesmal aufs Neue!

open kitchen, the stench of oil and cooking seeps into our jackets and clothes, so we smell as if we worked in a restaurant instead of going out for dinner. a lot of salad, ice cream full of ice, so it has been thawed and re-frozen several times, and it has been there for an eternity. seaweed salad is some fake European version of that with a bunch of lettuce and tomatoes. also giving bills and billing in an unusual manner. I was not impressed

Authentische japanische Küche! Der Chef entwirft den Speiseplan nach den Sake, die gerade da sind, also passt das Essen super dazu. Service war übrigens auch perfekt. Wir kommen sicher wieder!

Первый раз попробовал саке - вкусно, под японскую кухню идеально. За вечер скушал 7 порций роллов(хотел попробовать все), салат и дессерт. Всё вкусно, понравилось. Работает японский персонал, что добавляет атмосферы. Однозначно рекомендую. Но, есть 1 минус - нету WiFi, исправьте пожалуйста, это не сложно.

Absolute Empfehlung! 🤩 Wir haben uns mehrere Gerichte geteilt und jedes einzelne war super lecker. Viele vegetarische Tapas. Die Gyoza und Auberginen waren ein absoluter Traum. Preis-Leistung auch top!

Everything was okay, but not overwhelmingly good

Das izakaya ist fast unsichtbar in der Bötzowstraße, aber das Ambiente hinter der Eingangstür ist großartig. Essen und Getränke treffen genau den Geschmack, wenn man etwas trinken möchte und dabei gerne knabbert. Die Preise laufen sich bei einer vollen Runde Essen auf 30 - 40€, was ich für den Geschmack und menge durchaus akzeptabel finde. Es zwar erst mein zweiter Besuch, aber ich werde wieder und öfter hingehen.

Food is tasty, on the pricier side considering the small portions. Nice location and environment but my experience with the service was a disaster. Drinks brought after one hour and we were done with the food. Miso after the japanese tapas. And the worst was the ice cream served before the last course of sushi…

Non avendo esperienza di cucina giapponese ed asiati in genere posso solo dire che mi sono trovato benissimo. Cibo buono, personale cortese, prezzo adeguato ma ti lascia la voglia di contribuire con una mancia. Quindi lo consiglio senza remore

Das Essen ist fabelhaft und besonders. Leider sind die Portionen extrem klein und um satt zu werden muss man einiges bestellen.

Makrele, Rinderfilet + Takoyaki ♥️

Es war unglaublich lecker, es ist kein normales Restaurant. Es ist eine Tapas Bar mit großem Angebot an Sake. Wir waren zu dritt und haben knapp 230€ gelassen, waren aber auch Kapp 5 Stunden da. Es hat sich gelohnt und ich würde es jederzeit wieder machen.

I have just moved in this kiez and I was coming back home after work looking for a quick bite to eat as I wasn’t bothered to cook. This Izakaya ( a traditional Japanese pub) took my attention. The food is served in small plates to share ( I personally love this way to serve food), the menu is small but really interesting. I had a deep fried dish( octopus coated in bread crumbs, delicious), a raw dish( salmon tartare, I played safe with this dish), a steamed dish( seasonal asparagus in ponzu sauce) and the absolute highlight of my dinner: gyoza. They are the best one I have tried so far in Berlin. Amazing balance between the filling and the dough parcels, perfectly crispy and outstanding sauce. The prices were more than fair and I personally highly recommend it! Update 2022: I come here weekly and this place is always consistent. Averange spending: €25-30 pp

We loved every tapa and sushi roll that we ordered. Everything was very fresh, good portions and amazing flavors. On the top the service no matter how busy they were, it was always on top and with a big smile, something really hard to find in Berlin. Congrats to all the team, we will be back for sure!

Das Essen hat geschmeckt, aber man wurde nicht wirklich satt. Gut zum testen von Japanischen Vorspeisen/Desserts. Es gibt keine Hauptspeise. Ambiente war gut und ruhig. Toilette war sauber. Preisleistungsverhältnis Teuer.

Tutto buonissimo: dai Makrele agli onigiri con alga e camembert, ai gyoza che si sciolgono in bocca! Il sake era top! Le cameriere sono gentilissime e il sevizio impeccabile! È un posto del cuore ormai! :)

Have Isakaya vibe.Everything that i have ordered so far (been here twice) , they are so delicious! Service is quick and food portion is quite nice.they have also many type of sake.Great place to hang out with friends or even dating. Staff are friendly. I recommend this place.

Every single dish that we had was great. Cannot fault a single detail and I would recommend the gioza, the tori-chili and the fried camembert besides the sushi of course. If you go early you can find a table outside. The staff is efficient and you can pay with a credit card. Good variety of alcoholic drinks

Der kleine Laden im Bötzowkiez kommt von außen unspektakulär daher und der Purismus setzt sich innen fort. So richtig gemütlich sind die Stühle nicht und auch die Karte wirkt eher wie Kindergartenbastelei. Aber dafür ist der ganze Rest echt prima. Die Bedienung flink, ein bisschen japanisch kichrig und sehr, sehr höflich. Die Auswahl der Getränke landestypisch (unheimliche Vielfalt an sehr gutem Sake!) und das Speisenangebot ist kein Sushi-Allerlei sondern von den Produkten und der Zubereitung her auf hohem Niveau. Wir hatten das Lachstatar mit Frühlingszwiebeln (herrlich rauchig), 2x das eingelegte Rinderfilet (superzart), 2x den Thunfisch mit Avocado in leicht scharfer Sojasoße (sehr gut komponiert), Jacobsmuscheln, Oktopusböllchen (wunderbar schlunzig) und frittierten Kürbis mit japanischer Mayo. Dazu 2 große Bier und Sake für 2 und waren mit 60 Euro zu einem vernünftigen Preis dabei. Also: volle Empfehlung!
