I came here based on lots of good reviews and ended up being a bit disappointed. I had already reserved in advance and I recommend that to everyone. Either the tables are a bit too small for the number of people planned or you sit at a large table with other groups. I sat on the ground floor and noticed that the tables were already very close together. I would have liked a little more distance. The service was fine. Everyone there was very friendly. However, people only came to our table as often as necessary, even though the service was not stressful. For additional "requests" I had to get up and go to the staff myself. You eat the food with your hands, which I think is cool. But it would have been good if they had actively asked for cutlery, as I would have preferred that. The prices for an additional portion of salad and bread were missing from the menu. I had ordered this, but unfortunately it didn't come. Since the service didn't come again, I just skipped it. The food itself was good. The hummus was the best I had ever tasted. In terms of price, €8 is too much for that. However, the main course was just OK. One of the two beef dishes was very mixed. Neither my partner nor I were full from the portion, despite having a starter beforehand. It was said that the bread was so filling. I still wanted bread again, which never arrived. In my opinion the prices are significantly too high.

Hey people, I think I've already left you a few reviews over time, all of which were 5 stars. Unfortunately, after today's visit we found that the plate portions had been reduced again and even my 1.47 cm wife was no longer full, but the physical condition remained the same. Believe me, the last thing I want to do is give you a bad review, but the price/performance ratio is simply no longer right. We had the vergane once and the meat platter once. I hope you can take the feedback from years of loyal guests to heart. Best regards

I've been to a lot of African restaurants, but nothing can beat “In the Heart of Africa”. Authentic North African cuisine, incredibly great ambience and extremely friendly and attentive staff. Absolute recommendation!

Ich kann die positiven Bewertungen voll bestätigen. Das fängt bei der urigen Einrichtung an, der superfreundlichen Bedienung und dem leckeren Fingeressen. Ich empfehle die scharfen Sachen wie Hühnchen. Dazu noch ein günstiger Preis von 19 Euro für die Platte und eine leckere selbstgemachten Limo. Es ist auch unter der Woche voll mit meist jungem Publikum, entsprechend laut. Reservierung empfohlen. Ein must have für den den nächsten Frankfurt Besuch.

Very tasty food...and lots of seating options...

This is most definitely a hidden gem in Frankfurt! We were instantly greeted when we entered the door and seated (I'd recommend you call ahead and make a reservation as this place only had one small table available when we arrived). The waitress was bilingual and extremely helpful, and the food was packed with flavor.

The indoor of the dining was very nice and vibey music but I was surprised by the service. As a solo diner I was seated within 5 minutes arriving to a bar-like table facing the wall. I sat for about 10 minutes before I could wave down a server for a menu since he forgot to give me one. I ordered still water, the hummus and a mixed platter. The mixed platter came out shortly and was good although I was expecting the hummus appetizer first. The server apologized and brought it out. I was surprised that it was cold hummus...it tasted like store bought with oil poured on top with cold flat bread despite the nice presentation. I had a couple of bites and took the rest to go. I was surprised to be charged for it despite getting it after my main meal. Overall, it was a fun vibe inside but wasn't very impressed with the service and the food was OK. I've had better and more traditional.

Two weeks ago I was “In the Heart of Africa” with a larger group (13 people). What can I say? After initial skepticism (according to the motto: What the farmer doesn't know...) I was really amazed. From the starter (hummus with bread), the starter (platter for 3 people) and a dessert (yoghurt), everything was top. The taste was so good that I continued to eat beyond my hunger until my tummy was tense. By the way, people eat with their fingers. Of course, cutlery is also available upon request. The service is worth highlighting. Really friendly and helpful. You feel like you're with friends. If I'm in Frankfurt again, I'll come by again. Great and keep it up.

The menu mainly features a shared appetizer platter as the main course, with vegetarian or meat options – both very flavorful! 🥗🍖 The spiced black tea is a definite highlight and highly recommended. ☕✨ The service was warm and welcoming, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel at home. ❤️ However, the dining experience was let down by the basement seating area. The room is windowless, too cramped, and the wooden tables and box-like chairs are extremely uncomfortable, even for those well under 2 meters tall. 🪑❌ After an hour, we decided to leave because of the discomfort.

Unfortunately the seating is very uncomfortable and after 30 minutes I had back and butt pain from the hard bench. A majority of the places are in the basement, which I personally don't like. This was not apparent to me during the reservation. Unfortunately, I found the food (vegan plate) relatively bland. I know of much better and more authentic alternatives in Frankfurt. Drink prices very high...

You immediately feel reminded of the good times in Africa. Good food, friendly service and a nice ambience. You can enjoy a wonderful meal together, but you should make a reservation early. A tip: There were five of us, but we ordered the mixed platter for four people and still couldn't finish everything (we had hummus as a starter once).

The winding restaurant offers a variety of imaginatively designed seating areas and an overall very nice atmosphere. The menu offers a small but fine selection of Eritrean dishes, many of which are also vegan. Eating with your fingers is a bit unusual at first, but then it works very well and ultimately fits in perfectly with the authenticity of this restaurant. The dishes, which were served on a large platter, all taste very good. The food was very tasty, but by gluten-free injera I mean...injera made from pure teff flour and not corn tortilla-like flatbreads. ;) It was also a little bit. Maybe an idea to make the injera from Treffflour gluten-free, like others do. Service was very nice and relaxed. In the end we would have liked to order something else, but unfortunately we sat with empty glasses for 10 minutes and then decided to pay. Ambience is very nice.

Bei mir gehört es mittlerweile schon zu einer guten Tradition, bei meinen jährlichen geschäftlichen Besuch in Frankfurt mindestens einmal im Herzen Afrikas zu essen. Ein total entspannter Laden, total netter, persönliche und natürlicher Service und fantastisches Essen. Dazu schöne, ausgewählte zum Teil afrikanische Biere und Roséwein. Wirklich ein absolutes Erlebnis, kann man sogar alleine ganz nett machen, in Gesellschaft jedoch viel schöner. Top Empfehlung!

I'm sorry, but I don't really understand the hype. It's all about the food here, because everything else was great. Great service, great atmosphere. But the price of the food wasn't really cheap, but it wasn't much either. Eating the whole thing with your fingers wasn't easy either because of the extremely soft bread. Everyone has to know for themselves, but it wasn't for us. The seasoning wasn't that unusual either. Thanks anyway for the great service.

In the heart of Africa – unique ambience and interesting culinary experience Four of us went to the restaurant “In the Heart of Africa” in Frankfurt and ate in the tree house – a truly unique and impressive experience. The ambience was outstanding, especially the tree house in the middle of the restaurant is very special. I have rarely experienced something like this. The restaurant is very centrally located near the main train station and is easily accessible by public transport. You can usually find a parking space by car, but it's not easy - Frankfurt city center is often a challenge for drivers. The service was excellent. The staff was very friendly, greeted us straight away and explained the concept of the restaurant. You immediately notice that the restaurant is much more than just a place to eat - it almost has the feel of a theme park. We ordered a large platter for four people, emphasizing the African concept of sharing a meal. However, this requires one to agree to eat from a large plate - a culturally different experience. Personally, it wasn't really my thing as I prefer to eat from my own plate and choose my own dishes. The taste of the food was good, but a bit strange for my taste. I found it missing certain flavors and I'm not sure it completely satisfied me from a culinary point of view. Overall, I give the restaurant a 4 out of 5 stars. The ambience and service were very good, but I wasn't completely impressed by the food. Nevertheless, it is definitely a special experience that you should have. Rating: 4/5 stars

Die Location ist wunderschön und besonders. So eine Einrichtung habe ich noch nie gesehen und habe mich extrem wohl gefühlt. Die Bedienung ist sehr sehr nett, zuvorkommend und herzlich. Nur das Essen fand ich tatsächlich nicht besonders und hatte ziemlich wenig Geschmack. Ich bin des Öfteren eritreisch Essen und kannte das schon deutlich besser. Würde daher wohl nicht wiederkommen.

Went there spontaneously at the weekend for dinner with 4 people without a reservation. Since we didn't have a reservation and there was an event (TramEM) nearby, we actually assumed that we wouldn't get a seat. But the employees were super friendly and managed to get us to use a table for an hour and a half. The waitresses were all very friendly and attentive. All tables were served quickly and friendly. Drinks and food came very quickly and the food was simply fantastic. Fresh, tasty, smelled very good and tasted even better, very aromatic. Always happy to come back

We arrived on saturday night and they had a place for us while we didn't made a reservation. The inside scenery was beautiful and very cool. When we wanted to chance our table to outside, they made it possible without a problem. The staff was really kind and helpful. They changed in a instant to English. Wich they spoke very well. The food was done in no time, and was DELICIOUS! We really loved it, there was so much flavour and a good amount of variation in the vegetarian platter.

Are you interested in African? Then you've come to the right place in the heart of Africa. Super tasty food with meat & vegan options - spicy & not spicy. We ordered the mixed platter for 4 people and were able to choose 7 from 8 dishes. We had a colorful mix of beef & chicken and vegan options (chickpeas, spinach, potatoes…). The food was delicious (including the flatbread) and we were more than full! Eating is done by hand. There is a sink for washing hands independent of the toilets in the restaurant. Depending on where you sit, there is also the option of sitting in the sand. The restaurant definitely deserves 5 stars and is recommended. Reservations are absolutely necessary!

So we were able to try 7 out of 8 dishes. Unfortunately we didn't have any for dessert “Space” more. ;-) It is definitely necessary to make a reservation. We ate together here as a group. The restaurant is cozy and absolutely not dirty. The atmosphere is authentic and so is the concept. In terms of taste, not everything was my case with the mixed plates, but that is definitely a matter of taste and otherwise a recommended place. There are also African beers that we have tried.

First off - I have to mention the beautiful beautiful waitress that was serving my food, she has to get a pay rise! Unfortunately I am extending bad with names, but she was tall, with glasses and beautiful Scandinavian looks. She made me fall in love with this place after a tiring day in a different city, because of how caring, positive and kind she was! She even treated me to a very very delicious drink before I left, mentioning that it is alcohol free (which was so thoughtful of her, cause she could see I don’t drink alcohol !) I know that being a waiter or waitress is VERY STRESSFUL and u barely have time to think about clients and take ur time with them - but she somehow managed it and all her work as well! And I for sure will come back again with my husband or friends for the drinks and her beautiful energy!) (My husband is a fan of interesting drinks) Coming to the food - I got my favorite a platter with Injera and a mix of African dishes for 17-18 euros (reasonable price for the portion) and it was deliciouss! The design of interiors is something else! They have real sand in one of the halls and u can feel the vibes of Africa in every detail! Thoughtful and atmospheric design! I will add photos next time I come here!

Very satisfying and unusual! The combination of spicy meat with sour pancakes and lentil paste is wow! I also recommend ordering dju dju Mango or Passion fruit beer with your large plate. The service is excellent: guests are helped with their different eating habits in a friendly and accommodating manner. The food is well seasoned: we had a vegetarian and meat plate, which is traditionally eaten with injera bread. Alicha is a potato and cabbage dish that stands out.

I can recommend reserving the tree house, the only criticism is that it is considerably warmer there when the outside temperatures are summer.
