It was a friend's birthday, so we went there. I'd been there years ago, when they had just opened. And it was just like back then, simply wonderful. The food was incredibly delicious 😋, and the whole team was very attentive and friendly 👍👏. We'll be back 🙂.

Today, the two of us ate at "In the Heart of Africa." We were VERY satisfied. We received a warm welcome, friendly advice, and wonderful service. Very hospitable customer service, delicious food, a beautiful and very clean atmosphere—what more could you ask for? We will gladly return.

Currently the best Eritrean restaurant in the city. The vegan platter has become even more diverse and interesting, and of course, extremely delicious!

I was at Im Herzen Afrikas in Frankfurt on November 21, 2025, and it was absolutely amazing! ✨ The vibe was great as soon as I walked in: warm lighting, really cool decor, and relaxing background music 🎶 Everything felt perfectly harmonious and cozy. And as a fun extra: ice cubes in the urinal 😂 As for the food: The BBQ pistachios were incredibly delicious 😍 The hummus with the North African flatbread was so creamy and fresh 🤤 And the raspberry cream with hazelnut at the end was simply heavenly 🍓✨ The banana beer had a very interesting flavor; I'd love to try it again 😋 🍌🍺 You can really tell that the food is cooked with love. The service was relaxed, friendly, and completed the experience perfectly 🙌 In short: Amazing atmosphere, fantastic food, and a great vibe. I'll definitely be back! ❤️🍽️

The service was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was lovely and quite special. We were seated in a small, very cozy alcove. The food was delicious and incredibly interesting. We felt very comfortable.

A very cozy restaurant. Since we hadn't eaten African food before, the staff took the time to explain exactly what we were ordering and how it was eaten. It's eaten with your hands. After a while, we asked for a fork, and they brought it to us immediately. Extra bread was also no problem. We found the food delicious and were very satisfied with the service. If we lived closer, we would definitely come back.

We spontaneously arranged to meet for lunch and wanted to try something different. We got a table without any problems. The dishes were all exciting, and we ordered a large platter for three. We didn't put the meat dishes on the platter because we had a vegetarian with us. Overall, everything was very tasty and exciting, including the homemade lemonades. Personally, I found it a bit too dark, but everything was very harmoniously decorated.

Top service, incredibly authentic presentation, and the food is, of course, a dream. Eating with your hands is simply fun and something different. Only the green chilies were too strong for me 😉

We made a reservation by phone about 10 minutes before our arrival and were given a table for four. The reception was friendly, which immediately put us in a positive mood. We opted for a mixed platter for three people, where you can choose six from a total of ten dishes. Since we were there with our two children, we asked if it would be possible to have something less spicy on the platter and more of the non-spicy dishes to make it more pleasant for the children. Unfortunately, this wasn't possible because, as the waitress explained to us, all the dishes are pre-prepared and cannot be customized. We found this limitation particularly unfortunate, as we had hoped for more flexibility. After waiting about 15 minutes, the waitress who had taken our order returned and asked us what we had ordered, as our order had apparently not been recorded correctly. This situation was unfortunately anything but ideal. About 10 minutes later, we received the food. The taste was okay, but nothing exceptional. In direct comparison with the African Queen Restaurant, I unfortunately have to say that "In the Heart of Africa" ​​can't keep up in terms of taste. The dishes simply weren't as authentic and intense as at the African Queen, where we've always had a very good experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and appealing, but the waitress could have been a bit more attentive. While she was friendly, she seemed a bit disorganized, which might have been due to a less than perfect day. When we finally asked for additional injera, the waitress said, "I'll bring you one first, and if you want more, just let me know," and then she added it to the bill. At the African Queen Restaurant, it's customary to accommodate such requests at no extra charge, which makes the service there more customer-friendly for us. This was our first visit to "In the Heart of Africa," and unfortunately, our high expectations weren't fully met. We will only visit the African Queen Restaurant in the future, as we had a significantly better experience there, both in terms of the taste of the food and the service.

With a sense of adventure and no great expectations, we try this restaurant. We easily get a seat for lunch without a reservation. The wooden decor is very playful. Downstairs, there are private rooms for groups and small booths for romantic dates. The service is very friendly and exudes good humor. We choose a meat platter and a vegetarian platter. Authentically, you eat with your hands, which you wash and sanitize beforehand. Then you tear a pancake-like dish into small pieces and use them to grab the food. The flavors are very varied. The meat, in particular, is surprisingly well-seasoned and slightly spicy. Summary: Authentic African cuisine near the main train station at an average price. 5 stars!

The injera bread is a particular highlight, perfectly complementing the various flavors. The staff is warm, attentive, and happy to explain the dishes and the culinary culture. You always feel welcome and well looked after. For us, this is one of the best restaurants in Frankfurt – a must for anyone who wants to experience authentic African cuisine. Beautiful African restaurant. Very nicely decorated and traditional. It was my first time eating Eritrean food and I was absolutely thrilled with the food; it was superb. The friendliness of the service and the decor were also great. The homemade mint lemonade was also great! I really liked the decor in the basement with the wood surrounding the toilets. Very nicely done, really traditional. That's what a real traditional restaurant should look like! What I don't know is why there are so many ice cubes in the urinal. I've never seen that before. It surprised me a bit, as I've never seen anything like it. There must be a reason and purpose I don't know. In this restaurant, you eat with your finger, as that's common practice in Eritrea. I was briefly explained how to use it properly while eating. I think it's great! The dish was a bit pricey, as the portion wasn't that big, which is a bit steep for €19. But the taste is great. Attentive service, an incredibly wonderful ambiance, and absolutely outstanding food. You feel like you've been transported to an African safari lodge. That's why we keep coming back! Be sure to get a sharing platter and use your hands! It's a joy! For dessert, I highly recommend the banana pudding.

We dropped in here for drinks and snacks. I enjoyed a tasty Negroni and hubby had the Ethiopian beer. We weren't super hungry so enjoyed the house made flat bread, hoummos and lentil dip. Everything was delicious. The entire space is a feast for the eyes. It really is worth visiting just to take in the space. (Don't miss downstairs as well.) The establishment has been running for over 20 years so they are doing it right!

The food is delicious, not something you find on every corner, and is eaten exclusively with your hands (very pleasant and something different). My tip: Order the hummus as a starter and the mixed platter as a main course. The African beer and guava juice are also highly recommended.

Since I didn't pay the bill myself, I can't say whether it was still charged – a little more attentive service would have been appreciated. Overall, the food tasted good, but I would have preferred a bit more spice and depth in some of the dishes. The homemade lemonades were truly delicious, and the restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. Overall, a pleasant visit with friendly service and minor shortcomings in the details.

We were there yesterday with a group of 15 people and were split up. I sat with 8 people at a hut-like table, so the ambiance was already great. The food was also amazing; we tried all the vegan options. They were all fantastic, although the lentils were my favorite. We went for the set menu: starter, main course, and dessert for 35 euros. With drinks and tip, it came to 50 euros. But the price/performance ratio was definitely right! There was so much that we couldn't quite finish it. My colleagues also positively mentioned the tea and lemonade, as well as more exotic beers. I would especially like to praise the service. Our waitress (red-haired) was extremely friendly and always up-to-date about various allergens and how/what is vegan. She also spoke excellent English, so it's also suitable for international guests. All in all, we had a great experience and I would love to come back!

It's a matter of taste :) The platter with various dishes (with and without meat, we could choose two dishes) for 4 people with salad was good. The platter per person costs about €20! The African bread, injera, is very filling as it swells in your stomach. You can order more Eritrean bread. The food selection is manageable. The sodas are good. We had a corner down in the basement to ourselves. Unfortunately, I personally found it too cramped and generally too small. Perhaps not my first choice for quieter evenings... If you want to try an exciting evening with friends and a special cuisine 👍🏼. In terms of value for money, I don't think it's reasonable.

Do not skip this place. I got the homemade lemonade with wild berry and thyme which was delicious and refreshing. We had a group of 3 people and started with both the hummus and lentil soup which both were delicious and a must try. We did the platter with Zigni, Tzhada Kulwa, Dorho, Alicha, Timtimo, and Hamli, this was a lot of food for 3 people. It would have been a good amount if we didn’t do the appetizer but how could you not try those appetizers. I definitely recommend this place and will be back soon!

I had a wonderful experience! I got there two minutes before the kitchen closed. The staff were amazingly kind, they suggested a great dish so I could taste some typical flavors. I tried a drink called AfriSpritz and loved it.(they have quite a list of drinks I wanted to try). The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is cozy and warm. An experience I would definitely recommend and hope to come back on my next trip to Frankfurt! (Bear in mind that the kitchen closes around 21.30, at least on a week day)

We ordered the mixed platter, relying on the recommendations of the very friendly waitress. Her recommendation was really good, and we devoured it first (the vegan chickpeas). The platter didn't look that big at first, but in the end, we couldn't quite finish it because it was more substantial than it looked. Very, very tasty and an all-around great experience!
