We can highly recommend the Bebiaynetu in vegan and the Sambusa were also super good. These could also be served with a vegan sauce upon request. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

Extremely delicious. We were greeted very friendly. Then the waitress told us something about North Africa and explained to us what you could order here. The great thing is that there are also many *VEGAN* dishes here. I ordered a vegan mixed platter for myself and it was incredibly tasty. Simply 10/10. My friends ordered a platter that wasn't vegan and were absolutely thrilled. Just great. Really. Everything was great. The African beer was also great. 🩷😇✨

Just great! It was our first time eating African food and it was incredibly tasty, it was fun to eat with our hands and it was something different again. The staff was incredibly nice and you immediately felt welcome. Food came quickly and I can only recommend the homemade cocktail! 5/5 stars for everything!

All in all, an exquisite establishment. Instead of the usual narrow-mindedness of German restaurants, you are transported to distant East Africa. The friendly introduction of the service staff ensures full-bodied enjoyment in the form of the country's typical dishes and drinks. Always with pleasure, GaLiGrü and had you well!

Very nice little authentic restaurant. If you've never eaten the cuisine - it's pretty spicy but good if you like that.

Very authentic and good quality food! The service is very friendly and explains everything. It’s all home cooked and I they have many vegetarian and vegan options, I would recommend getting the mixed platter to share. It is about 20€ per person for the mixed platter which comes with extra bread as well. The interior is decorated very authentically as well and is an experience you don’t want to miss.

This was my first meal of this kind. I was warmly welcomed here. Everything was explained to me and the staff and the owner responded to my every request. The portion was more than enough for me. Gladly again. Parking here, however, is a matter of luck.

Very tasty and special food! The ambience and food in this restaurant is really special and highly recommended. We had the African Queen Platter for 3 people and there was a large art pot in the middle for everyone to grab. From lamb, beef, chicken, lentil soup, spinach, chickpeas and salad, everything was superbly prepared with extra "crêpes/pancakes" (sorry I can't remember the name) that you could use to eat with your hands. Drinks like African Guinness from Eritrea and Afro Cosmic Cola were also fancy and good.

Friendly staff and quiet ambience. Unfortunately my children couldn't find anything on the menu (3 and 1 year old) but that's not a big deal if they have a child's palate.

We hadn't tried any African food so when we found this place it instantly caught our attention. The place is family run and the owner goes and greets everyone there. She also took out order. When we areived we were asked if we had reservation (we didn't ), but we were seated on condition that after one hour we are done. No problem for us! Place is quite (nice background music is playing) people are quite so it was nice. It's quite dark here but that just gives to atmosphere. We ordered traditional Eritrean dish which was called African Queen Plate - it is shared between people and is eaten with hands (optional for is provided). It includes vegetarian foods and meat, spicy and not spicy. As option extra spices are give they are HOT, even the least spicy one. I took Eritrean beer made from different grain than regular beer, it was tasty and didn't have any bitter aftertaste. I would buy it again if I had a chance. Overall really good experience. My colleague said 8.2 out of 10.

A notre arrivée le restaurant nous fait attendre encore 1 h sans apéritif sans excuses une fois à table il faut se dépêcher de commander car les cuisines ferment. A l'addition aucun geste commercial. Déplorable

I stopped at African Queen for lunch. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. They also have a menu in English and they are happy to help you with a choice. I had the African Queen mix which was very tasty, a little bit spicy. The lentils were great. Definitely recommended if you want to try some Ethiopian / Eritrean cuisine in a laid-back atmosphere.

We have been eating here during the Frankfurt Book Fair for years, even when it was still at the old location. The food is consistently delicious, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is great. We'll definitely be back next year!

Our food enthusiasts and I made our way to the wonderful African Queen Restaurant last night. After we had a Portuguese meal last time, this time our culinary journey took us to the continent of Africa. What immediately caught my eye was the beautiful ambience, which immediately gives you an authentic feeling. However, I could also be wrong about the authenticity here, as my path has never taken me to the African continent, but at least it corresponded to my expectations. We received a very warm welcome and were able to enjoy a small selection of beers at the beginning, which, with their varieties with banana and mango, didn't taste much like beer, but still pleased our palate. As a starter we ordered Sambusa with minced meat, which served as a little preparation for what awaited us next. We had barely finished eating them when our main course arrived. We ordered a platter for 5 people. We were briefly and succinctly explained the customs of African food and then we jumped right in. The platter consisted of a generous selection of different dishes, where everyone got their money's worth. It was definitely a new experience for me to go straight to the plate with the included flatbread, because here too I wanted to have the most authentic experience. It didn't take much time until we had eaten most of the food, but one plate for four people would have been enough for our stomachs. From lamb, beef, chicken, spinach to lentils, there was really everything here, including different levels of spiciness, but luckily never so hot that even one head would turn red. For seasoning we were also provided with various spices and another sauce. The evening was rounded off for me with a really delicious vanilla ice cream with mango syrup. As a farewell, we were kindly given coffee beans to eat and on the way home we enjoyed a wonderful memory of an excellent evening.

When a visit to a restaurant feels like a visit to good old friends... Simply indescribable. We were already guests when they were still near the train station. Now we have to drive a lot further, but the journey is definitely worth it again and again 😉

Very nice little restaurant. Very friendly service. Were there with a group. We shared platters as well as appetizers. The spicy bread as a starter is super tasty. Platters are a great mix with lots of spices. Some things a bit spicy Eating with hands but cutlery is also available. Recommended

The food made me vomit and gave me severe diarrhea shortly after eating. The hygiene standards seem very low, and the food preparation did not feel clean or safe. I won’t be returning and do not recommend this place.

Flavors and spices on point. Great service and amazing staff. As travelers of the world, my family and I loved the experience of sharing one amazing plate together. A reservation should be wise. We got lucky and they seat us but they had a full house when we left. Great experience!

Fantastic atmosphere, delicious food and drink

I'm a vegetarian and have already tried many East African restaurants in Frankfurt. African Queen remains my favorite and everyone I brought here loved it too.

Beautiful atmosphere and we were warmly welcomed by the lady at the counter. The food was really tasty and very seasoned, it was like a flavor explosion. People always asked if we needed anything and we were given a lot of time before we had to pay, so we had a really good time :) Highly recommended :)

We loved the food here- we are foodies and gluten free. This restaurant is mostly gluten free and their bread eaten is naturally gluten free. The flavours were amazing and no other cuisines are like it. We had the plate share of 3 meats and 3 veggies- it all tasted different and delicious. Even my 77 year old mother in law loved it- spicy but not hot, unless you added extra sauce. We sat outside, warm balmy night and the staff were very helpful explaining the food and the plight of their country. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

In my opinion, Africa Queen is one of the best restaurants in Frankfurt and definitely the best East African restaurant. The food is always very good and freshly prepared. You can taste that everything, including the injera (flatbread), is freshly prepared. The owner and the waitresses are warm and friendly. During peak times you should reserve in advance. I always enjoy coming here and have never been disappointed.

I did not expect this when randomly walking in. It's probably the best food I've had in Frankfurt. It's simply amazing, I recommend the Queen Platter to try it all.

Best Ethiopian restaurant in ffm

The food is top. Cocktail too. Well attended and super clean ladies' toilet and changing table available, as well as hand cream.

A visit to African Queen is something special because this cuisine is completely different from all the usual ones. The reception as well as the service and support were perfect. Very friendly and attentive ladies working in service. You feel comfortable all around. As for the food itself, I have to say that everyone should have their own experience. You certainly can't go wrong with a visit, but I only liked the food mediocre. Everything was very overcooked and sometimes seasoned lightly or not at all. That's why everything looks more dreary than colorful. As colorful as the country itself is in all its facets. The meat, which is prepared in Eritrean butter and promises to be juicy, was also tough and almost neutral in taste. However, since I have no experience with authentic African cuisine, it may well be that this is how they cook in this beautiful continent. Eating is done by hand. If that doesn't appeal to you, there is also cutlery. I don't know if we would come back a second time.

Great place for an evening meal. I went early evening mid-week and it was quite busy with locals. Bit off the main tourist area but easy to reach via tram. Service was friendly and prompt. I had the mixed meat platter and that is great way to sample a few dishes. Traditionally eaten by hand with the pancakes. The potion was generous starters not needed. Cost reasonable and quite a different experience.

Very delicious food, staff was friendly, very laid back atmosphere. This was our first time trying east-african cuisinse and had platters to share, portions were big and everything was very tasty.

We had the most pleasurable experience here. We absolutely loved the food, it had just enough spice and all the flavors you could imagine. We will definitely be returning to eat and have the Amazing Mango Ice Cream for dessert! We highly recommend coming here if you like new things and spice! Thanks for having us!

The food was very tasty and the service was super friendly. There was something for everyone, no matter meat (which happens to be Halal), vegan, spicy or mild dishes. It certainly won't be the last time we're here. :)

Great place to eat, amazing food and very good service

We have been here twice now and will definitely come back again and again. Mega delicious food, incredibly warm service, a wonderful, loving atmosphere. From the outside, the restaurant seemed somewhat inconspicuous, in the dreary Frankfurt winter weather. We almost didn't get in. But the sun actually rises inside and you quickly discover what a gem you have landed in. Definitely try it out, the staff provides comprehensive information and gives very good advice if you are not yet familiar with the country's cuisine.

Typical Ethiopian/Eritrean food, well prepared. They are competent and friendly. I got the #25 which is the maximum dinner with some of everything, and it was fabulous. You can eat with your hands, traditionally, or they will give you a fork & knife if you would rather. I hope to return to African Queen when I am next in Frankfurt.

En entrant dans ce restaurant vous serez aussitôt dépaysé par le cadre qui vous mettra dans l'ambiance. Nous avons été accueillis avec le sourire et avons été conseillé merveilleusement bien par la serveuse. Nous adorons manger éthiopien et dans ce cas le plat était plus que copieux. Nous sommes ressortis en étant obligé de déboutonner notre pantalon, tant nous étions repus. Le repas était savoureux et opulent. Je vous recommande cette adresse si vous passez par Francfort.

Mein Freund und ich waren hier heute essen und wir waren mega begeistert. Ambiente, Personal und natürlich das Essen waren einfach nur Klasse. Eine echte Geschmacksexplosion kann ich nur dazu sagen. Traumhaft! Es gibt auch eine super Auswahl an veganen/vegetarischen Gerichten, nur zu empfehlen!

This is an excellent restuarant. The cultural references in the restaurant play their part in the fascinting experinece with indigenous art lining the walls. The food is outstanding. The service was quick and the serving also excellent. The owner of the restaurant was incredibly friendly and gave advice on the menu (I was vegan). The food was some of the best Ethiopian food I have tasted. The flavours were outstanding and the experience of eating without cutlery was again something not regualrly experienced in the UK but part of the cultural exeprience. I would strongly recommend you visit this restaurant at least once. You will not leave hungry.

It was our first time eating African food. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you actually feel like you are in Africa thanks to the great ambience. There is also a large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes (which is important to me ;-)). The food and service were really great! We'd love to come back!

We were welcomed very friendly. And the food tastes great to me and my daughter. The explanation from the operation was also very welcome. As the evening progressed, however, we wished that the service had taken a little too long to accommodate a drink request. However, that doesn't change the fact that the service staff were really, really friendly.

Nicely decorated shop. We were there spontaneously on a Sunday lunchtime without a reservation and were able to get a free table. We had the vegetable Sambusa and the vegetarian/vegan mixed platter Bebiaynetu, with various chilies for individual seasoning. Since it was our first time eating African food, we were given a short "instruction" on how best to eat the dishes by hand. The bottom line is that everything was very tasty, but the dish with the boiled potatoes was very acidic and not completely our cup of tea.

One of our favorite restaurants in Frankfurt! We absolutely love going here with friends or family who are visiting to get a big platter to share! Every time it’s absolutely delicious with great service. They also have a nice patio during warmer weather. Be sure to make a reservation for dinner as this is a popular spot, and for a good reason!

Second visit: Shiro served here isn't actually the best in terms of quantity though, after having visited other places - bit overpriced here. Great summer vibe! Unfortunately they add Trinkgeld in the bill and I wish they just mention that! Totally loved the Eritrean meal experience and the food - by far the best one I've been to in Frankfurt. Loved that it was decently spiced up and served sufficiently for three people - one can always choose to customise the serving.

It was just a perfect evening there. The food was incredibly good and the staff couldn't be beaten in terms of friendliness and courteousness.

Unfortunately there are not enough stars! We had African food for the first time with the whole family. An experience of the senses. In every sense. Super friendly service and the food was simply incredible. That alone would have been enough for full marks, but when we discovered that our daughter had left her braces on the table and the boss herself successfully found them again (two hours later), we were completely thrilled! This is how good food works. That's how service works! We will be back!

The lady staff was very proud of Ethiopian culture. As it was my first visit, she took her time to explain their culinary culture, their language and some history on Ethiopia. We ordered the queen platter and the food was good.
