African Queen Restaurant in Frankfurt am Main

We had the opportunity to try African cuisine for the first time at African Queen and were absolutely thrilled. The service was excellent, the atmosphere authentic and pleasant, and the food and accompanying drinks (banana beer!) were first-class. The many excellent reviews, which my wife used as a guide when making our initial selection, are spot on. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant!

We hadn't made a reservation, but we were lucky enough to arrive at 5 pm. By 6 pm the place was packed. The waitresses were very friendly and great with kids. We had the mixed platter with meat and a vegan lentil soup. Everything was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

I've traveled to Ethiopia many times, so we visited this restaurant. The food was delicious and authentic. The service was friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely be back.

The four of us were there for a business lunch. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival, and this friendliness continued throughout our entire visit. When we ordered, the staff explained the special features of Ethiopian-Eritrean cuisine and offered recommendations for newcomers. We were rewarded with a selection of dishes that left nothing to be desired. A thoroughly enjoyable evening with excellent and authentic cuisine. Superb value for money.

The African Queen was our first experience with authentic African food, and it was amazing. We had looked at the menu beforehand, but had no real idea what to expect. We ordered the platter for two with various meats and vegetarian dishes. We thought it would be a platter with gluten-free bread, but we never would have guessed that the entire platter would be covered in fluffy and light gluten-free bread, with everything draped on top. Now we also know that the bread is both food and cutlery. It wasn't mushy, but everything was incredibly delicious. Whether it was meat, lentils, potatoes, or spinach. Everything tasted so wonderfully different from what we're used to. And: it was 100% gluten-free. Whenever we're in Frankfurt, the Queen will be a regular stop. 5 stars really aren't enough. Our visit to the African Queen was a complete success. The food was not only delicious, but also extremely plentiful. We were always given friendly and competent information about the various dishes. The service was extremely warm and attentive. The information about portion sizes was particularly helpful; the mixed platter for two people would definitely have been too much for us. The service staff were very keen on this and immediately advised us accordingly. The cleanliness of the restrooms is also worth mentioning; they even provided feminine hygiene products, which I particularly appreciated. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening with excellent food and would gladly return anytime!

I visited this restaurant with my boyfriend and our dog and received an exceptionally warm welcome. The entire team was very friendly, welcoming, and honest. You could tell their only concern was to please. My boyfriend wanted to order two large main courses, but the waitress honestly advised us to take one portion first and then reorder if needed, and they were absolutely right; one portion was easily enough. The lamb was excellent and so good that my boyfriend even got an extra portion on the house, which was a really sweet gesture. Our dog wasn't forgotten either; he also got something to eat. I've never experienced anything like it before. We felt like we were visiting friends and will definitely be back. Highly recommended!

This was our first time eating Eritrean food. The staff was super helpful in choosing the food, which we really appreciated as first-timers. The food was absolutely delicious! Wonderful spices, and the Queen's Plate is perfect if you want to try a variety of dishes.

The best of the best food in Frankfurt. Is resembels me to my mexican roots but with African style. We always go and eat there when we are in Frankfurt. Super good, friendly and fast service. Delicious food. More than enough for what you pay. Lovely and traditional decoration. Maybe good to avoid going inside in super warm days because they don't have airco and outside smells a bit to cigarette.

Such great potential, but unfortunately not utilized :( With a lot of customers, it's completely understandable to be stressed, but we waited over an hour for the food to arrive and the team wasn't really present with the customers. The food was okay, but unfortunately it arrived lukewarm and quickly got cold. The interior was very nice, but there could be some improvement in terms of space.

A very cozy restaurant that also has a lovely outdoor area. The service staff is very friendly and helpful (they are happy to explain how to enjoy the food, what goes into each dish, and how spicy something is. They also advise that you should try a small amount of certain spices served with them beforehand). The interaction with children is equally positive! The menu selection is good and also offers plenty for vegans. The dishes are lovingly prepared and presented. It is flavorful and spicy without being too spicy; if you prefer it spicier, you can add more spices. The typical Eritrean bread is delicious (it's slightly sour, like a good sourdough starter), and they are happy to refill it. Upon entering, you are greeted very warmly and openly and shown to a table. Orders are taken promptly and without any pressure. The same applies to the serving; there is always an eye ready to fulfill a guest's wishes. The prices are reasonable; we had the African Queen Platter, which can be ordered for 1-6 people. We ordered for two people, and it was enough to fill us both up. We paid a total of €67 for three people, including drinks. It was a very nice time, and this certainly won't be our last visit.

The African Queen platter for 1-6 people is therefore recommended, as you get a selection of many different dishes, beautifully prepared. A reservation is recommended. We will definitely come back!

I'm disappointed. We ordered 6 platters and got it for one person and it wasn't what we ordered. It felt like leftovers

We had lunch at African Queen. As a starter there were dumplings with vegetable filling and with meat filling, each served with dip. Both versions tasted very tasty. The main course consisted of a mixed platter for 3 people with a colorful selection of delicious African specialties. We also served flatbread dough, which we were able to order free of charge. With a mixture of different spices, everyone could vary the spiciness individually. Everything was appealing and really tasty. The friendly service rounded the whole thing off. We were very satisfied again and can definitely recommend the restaurant.

Top! Everything fits here! You are greeted warmly and immediately feel welcome. On our first visit, on the recommendation of the friendly waitress, we ordered the platter for two people. Here you could try everything from the menu... beef, lamb, chicken and various vegetarian dishes. African beer and a delicious dessert rounded off the experience. The price was reasonable, the atmosphere was great. If we are in Frankfurt again, we will definitely make another trip to the Afrikan Queen.

Our first visit (dinner) was first class! Nice ambience with African background music, warm and attentive staff and of course the food, soooo delicious! The best way to eat traditionally is with your hand. The well-known wonderful injera bread, the spice in the dishes, the African beers with different flavors, everything is just perfect, thank you, we'll be back!

You will be warmly welcomed at African Queen and accompanied throughout the evening by the friendly staff. The restaurant has an interesting, detailed interior design and a beautiful outdoor area that invites you to linger. The meal was a special taste experience - the variety of spices makes each dish unique. The large platters with different meat and vegetable variations are particularly recommended as they offer a great selection. There is also original African beer that goes perfectly with it. A small note: The spiciness of the dishes could be marked more clearly on the menu so that you can better adjust to it. Personally, the injera bread wasn't quite my taste, but that's of course a matter of preference.

African Queen Restaurant – I had never tried traditional African cuisine before, but while strolling through the neighborhood, I stumbled upon this place by chance. It’s a family-run restaurant with a rich history, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We ordered a platter with a variety of appetizers and were pleasantly surprised—everything was incredibly delicious! A special highlight was the African beer served in a coconut shell—such a unique and exciting experience. Thank you for what you do! Highly recommend this place 🙂

I visited this restaurant on my last night in Frankfurt. It was a short drive from the city center, located in a quiet area. Although I couldn’t find private parking nearby, a friendly German local helped me with public parking. It was my first experience with African cuisine, and I really enjoyed it. The restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere, the staff was friendly, and the food was delicious. If you’re looking to try African cuisine, I highly recommend this place.
