We had dinner here with the family yesterday. It's a very quaint restaurant. The food (schnitzel) was very tasty, there was a great selection of beer and the service was very nice and accommodating. We were there quite late (9:15 p.m.), but we were still able to choose in peace. We'll definitely be back!

After 8 hours of driving, we were very hungry and thirsty. On the recommendation of the hotel, we stopped at the old customs house. We were warmly welcomed. A quaint restaurant, rustic and yet cozy. The beer is very drinkable and the food is very tasty. We had a great evening with you and a good start to a nice weekend in Aachen. Nothing was left to be desired. We ended up here thanks to the “Enjoyment with Plus” voucher book. We were greeted very friendly and courteously. Beforehand there was a greeting from the kitchen. Overall, the food is recommended. One star deducted because of the price/performance ratio and as a recommendation for the boss: there must be at least a small side salad.

A very nice evening was spent with colleagues, our waiter Fabian ensured a good mood, delicious food and always enough drinks. Any time!

Leider war das so angepriesen Zollhaus Schnitzel - im Fett verbrannt- wie eine Schuhsohle die Soẞe pampig oben drauf und viel zu wenig. Beim Salat zu wenig Dressing nur oben drauf ein bisschen. Einfach enttäuschend bei den Preisen und Stolze 6,50 für ein Weizenbier. Nicht zu empfehlen.

The Renner schnitzel is absolutely top.

The first impression from the outside is deceptive. Inside, the old customs house is rustically beautiful, with friendly staff and good schnitzel. The onion soup was particularly good and there was a large selection of draft beer.

Ordered fries to take away, didn't look at the price and almost fell off my chair €15 for two tiny portions, ridiculous. Not accepting order was refused.

Rump steak was a 10/10. Would come eat here again.

Quaint rustic atmosphere. Very comfortably furnished. We had the vegan schnitzel with fries and the “Renner sauce” (vegetarian). There's always a "little greeting from the kitchen" to try beforehand. Also vegan upon request. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is too high: €20 for two (small) meatless schnitzels plus fries served on a salad corner is clearly too much. It's a shame, otherwise we would come by more often. Tip: It's best to reserve in advance, otherwise if you visit spontaneously, there may be no free tables left and you'll be sent away.

The worst schnitzel I've eaten in a long time. Waited two hours from arrival (18 people) for the first starter. Another half hour for the schnitzel and rump steaks. Rump steaks were very small and the sauce on the schnitzels was cold and tasteless or had a strange sweet note. I'm definitely disappointed and won't be coming back for now. The service was quite stressed and therefore a little unfriendly.

Unfortunately you can't give "no" stars. Bad, unfriendly service. Burnt schnitzel with bland and tasteless sauce - like stretched soup. Not to mention that after 2 hours of waiting, not even the starter was on the table. Compared to this restaurant, every motorway rest stop is a 5-star gourmet temple.

Anyone who goes to the Zollhaus expects a rustic atmosphere and hearty food. And that's what you get. However, at a very good level! Six of us visited the customs house and had various schnitzels and salad. Before that, an extremely delicious greeting came from the kitchen with pumpkin soup. All dishes were sumptuous, very tasty and (which is unfortunately more commonplace everywhere) handmade. The service from the very attentive boss and an equally friendly employee was pleasingly good! You felt welcome and always well served. The shop was full, but the service kept everything under control and the food came in a completely reasonable time (estimated around 15-20 minutes). Several years ago we visited the customs house frequently with a large group (>15). I can very well imagine the location under the “new” owner. We will definitely come back!

Schnitzels were overpriced for this quality. We also waited almost 45 minutes. The sauce was thick and tasteless. The service was inattentive. There were four of us, we all had different schnitzels and no one liked it. What a disappointment, unfortunately things are getting worse here. There is also sometimes a strange audience sitting at the bar who chats you up.

Very, very long waiting times (>1 hour) for the food to arrive. I ordered cream schnitzel with fries. Schnitzel was quite hard and overall rather tasteless despite the sauce. Fries were quite greasy and also hard. Unfortunately I can't recommend it. Edit after the answer from the owner: Yes, we were a large group, but we registered beforehand, perhaps this could have been taken into account in the personnel planning. No matter how we moved around the room (which didn't really happen), it doesn't matter that after placing the order it took over an hour until we got the food. In addition, table by table was ordered, with a break in between, so that the kitchen didn't have to prepare everything at once. I finished it, but that doesn't mean it was tasty. For the money you pay, it just wasn't worth it, in my opinion.

Ordered there: the food was delivered quickly, the delivery person was very nice and the food was great and the sauce is packaged separately, which I personally like very much because then everything doesn't get soggy. The schnitzel is clearly homemade and the ingredients (for me mushrooms) are also fresh and not from a can. The price is reasonable, especially when you consider that in other restaurants you often pay more than 10 euros for a frozen Fritösen schnitzel. The Belgian fries are super tasty as a side dish. I don't know where else you can get these as a side dish in Aachen.

Went to the Altes Zollhaus for schnitzel on July 1st, 2024. Delicious schnitzel with fries....sat in the small dining area...typical old Aachen pub atmosphere with tables and chairs from the 50s to 70s...wood paneling on the walls...just the way it used to be...schnitzel It was great... service was great with a friendly “little greeting” from the kitchen. We will always enjoy eating in the Zollhaus pub when we visit Aachen and simply enjoying the smell of the old Aachen pub scene.

Vor Corona waren wir immer begeistert. Jetzt war es eine Katastrophe. Nur ganz wenige Gäste da und trotzdem mussten wir über 35 Minuten auf Schnitzel warten. Die Pommes waren grenzwertig dunkel. Die Schnitzel hauchdünn, aber lecker zart. Total überteuert, 23,90 € ohne Salat. Bedienung lustlos. Da bieten andere Restaurants mehr. Andere Gäste die nach uns kamen, beschwerten sich weil das Essen nicht kam nachdem sie 40 Minuten gewartet hatten. Seeeehr schlechter Service, schade.

Super leckeres frisch gezapftes Bier. Aufs Essen zwar etwas länger gewartet, konnte man aber leicht mit einem weiteren leckerem Bierchen überbrücken. Das Schnitzel war es allemal wert. Absolute Empfehlung. 👍

Nothing has changed in the old customs house. Everything is as we have known it for years. The food is great, but the prices have risen considerably. Recently the price difference between a large and a small schnitzel has become clear. Approximately 5€. But you have to say that the small one is quite sufficient at a price of €16.90 without salad. Years ago, as a child/young person, I was in the old customs house in Essen. Now, after years, we ate there again under the owner David Pyras. What can I say...the service was friendly, not intrusive, alert to empty glasses and didn't seem overwhelmed even when a larger group arrived. The food was, as I remembered it, “Schnitzel Zollhaus” a dream. Before that there was a delicious greeting from the kitchen which was really tasty. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic and everything is clean. Good value for money and we will definitely come back.

excellent meat, the rest to forget... including the sauces... Rude dining room staff and an hour-long wait with a semi-empty place. Excuse given: so many illnesses! look elsewhere. After the review received today from the manager, we are not quite there: 1. I have never left my cell phone with them (they must have been confused) 2. the extras they mention would have been €4 (to have the sauce not on the steak but €1/portion separately... let me understand) and in any case of the 4, 2 were still taken into account... 3. Thanks for the advice but I still wouldn't have come back to you!!!

Went there today (February 24th, 2024) around 8 p.m. We waited a really long 45 minutes for the food. The schnitzel was really tasty. The cognac-onion sauce didn't taste like anything and there was no salt, as was the fried potatoes. We didn't want the sauce directly on the schnitzels because otherwise the breading would be soggy... €1 extra was charged. The waitress only came at the end to ask if it was tasty. She reacted defensively to the honest answer and couldn't handle the food-related criticism... As a small compensation, we were only allowed to pay twice the extra charge for the separate sauce. For 22 € / schnitzel really not satisfactory!!! If there are no staff, other guests shouldn't suffer and be ripped off!!! So never again, sorry. P.S.: Mold on the ceiling is not appetizing right now. P.P.S.: We ordered large schnitzels, one looked really small... When we asked, we were told that the size can vary because they were made ourselves... A spontaneous stop in the legendary customs house began with a friendly greeting and a very tasty small potato curry soup as a greeting from the kitchen...which was followed by huge schnitzels from the pan...but unfortunately in my case with a very bland cognac cream Sauce... which I was just able to read here... that was a bit of a shame... the accompanying portion of fries was also quite clear... all in all, it was enough to fill you up... the main courses and the soup were even Brought to the table personally by the chef...however, the price has almost reached a borderline level...which hopefully isn't due to the name of the location? (smile)...schnitzel without salad for 22 euros...of course everything has become more expensive...but when will the guest reach the limit? Over a dozen local and international beers on tap round off the brewery style perfectly...as does the old school ambience with history...all in all, it's worth a visit...but there is room for improvement here and there...

We were there yesterday in a private party on the occasion of a big birthday. It was outstanding; The food, served in buffet form - selection analogous to the menu - was excellent, the service was friendly, attentive and quick. The drinks on offer were also excellent! The ambience and the musical accompaniment by a DJ contributed to an all-round successful evening. I will definitely be visiting there more often in the near future!

Super leckeres Essen. Das Zollhausschnitzel mit einer leicht scharfen Note ist die absolute Empfehlung. Serviert wird ein qualitativ hochwertiges Schnitzel, welches frisch in der Pfanne gebraten wird. Kein 08/15 Formschnitzel. Sehr freundliche und zuvorkommende Bedienung. Wir kommen wieder! Update: Leider wurde die Mehrwertsteuererhöhung 1:1 weitergegeben und auch der Service ist nichts mehr. Hier waren wir zum letzten Mal.

Das erste Bier kam warm und ohne Kohlensäure an. Daraufhin habe ich es reklamiert und bekam augenscheinlich ein „ neues Bier“. Dem war nicht so, stattdessen wurde es aufgefüllt und es steckten Eiswürfel darin. So etwas habe ich noch nie gesehen. Das Essen war lauwarm und war in Anbetracht der Qualität absolut überteuert. Schade, habe mir viel mehr erhofft. Die nächste Weihnachtsfeier findet dort nicht mehr statt.

Es war insgesamt sehr laut. Der Service war unorganisiert, nicht besonders freundlich und wirkte distanziert. Die vorab erbetene Bestellung für eine größere Gruppe sei „nicht angekommen“, so dass 45 Minuten nach Ankunft die Bestellung aufgenommen wurde, nachdem vorher in mehreren Etappen die Getränkebestellungen aufgenommen und geliefert wurden, so dass die Ersten ihre Gläser bereits wieder geleert hatten als die Letzten ihre Getränke erhielten. Im weiteren Verlauf wurden Getränke vergessen oder waren nicht vorhanden, obwohl sie in der Karte aufgeführt wurden. Nach Bestellung dauerte es 75 Minuten, bis das Essen kam, welches teilweise bereits erkaltet war. Das Wiener Schnitzel (26,5€) triefte vor Fett, so dass bereits beim Verzehr (ungelogen!) Sodbrennen entstand und im weiteren Verlauf der Magen schmerzte. Die Pommes (den Namen „Belgische Fritten“ haben sie nicht verdient) waren teilweise steinhart und wurden mit Sicherheit nicht nach belgischer Art (vor-) frittiert. Der Geschmack der Pommes verriet zudem, dass das Fett bereits etwas älter gewesen sein muss. Die „Tellerdeko“ (Paprikapulver auf dem Tellerrand verstreut) irritierte ebenfalls. Es geht bestimmt noch schlechter als hier, aber mehr als 2 Sterne sind nicht angemessen und ich würde das Restaurant niemandem empfehlen.

Der Service war nicht sehr engagiert, das Warten aufs Essen gut über 1 Zeitstunde, eine andere Person musste als Einzige noch länger warten, so dass die anderen schon fertig waren, als das letzte Essen serviert wurde....🤭

Nur zu empfehlen, wenn der Hunger noch nicht so groß ist. Wir waren mit einer größeren Gruppe dort essen. Nach Essensbestellung um 19.05 dauerte es bis 20.15-20.35 bis alle ihr Essen bekamen. Eindeutig zu lange! Das Essen selbst hat sehr gut geschmeckt.

Die Servicekräfte waren dermaßen unfreundlich und unmotiviert, dass einem die Lust vergehen konnte. Die Getränke und Speisen wurden "auf den Tisch geknallt". Das Essen hatte bestenfalls "Frittenbudenqualität" und war völlig überteuert. Am Ende hat der Abend lediglich eine hohe Rechnung, schlechte Stimmung und Kopfschmerzen eingebracht.

Alles rundum klasse! Das Ambiente ist genau das urige was man „im alten zollhaus“ erwartet! Die Einrichtung ist gemütlich rustikal wirklich tolles Wirtshaus. Wenn dann noch, dazu passend, gut gemachte, bodenständige Hausmannskost kommt ist der Abend perfekt. Danke für diesen tollen Abend mit in Summe angemessenen Preisen.

Große Vorfreude gehabt, danach leider Große Enttäuschung. Schnitzel lauwarm Fitten kleine Portion. Flammkuchen vegetarisch trocken und Gemüse zum suchen. Leider nicht zu empfehlen.

Liebe Menschen im Service und leckeres Essen zu fairen Preisen. Sehr schönes Ambiente!

Aufgrund einer Empfehlung kamen wir hier essen. Den Preis von 20€ für ein Veggie Schnitzel fand ich von Anfang an sehr happig. Es kostet genau so viel wie ein Schweineschnitzel, ist allerdings nur 2/3 der Portion. Einer von uns hatte eine in Soße getränkte Serviette mit auf seinem Teller. Außerdem wurden die Teller abgeräumt, obwohl einer noch nicht fertig war mit Essen. Abgesehen vom ersten Getränk, mussten wir für jedes Bier nachfragen ob wir noch eins haben können. Am Ende wurde uns noch 7 Shots auf die Rechnung geschrieben, die wir nicht getrunken haben. Es war schon lecker, aber aufgrund des Service, der Preise und der Serviette im Essen, würde ich nicht wieder kommen.

Okay es mag eine Institution in Aachen sein, aber der bauliche Zustand (oweia). Die Schnitzel waren okay, ebenso das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Nicht okay ist es für ein Minischälchen Mayonaise 1€ zu verlangen.

Das ist ja Wahnsinn! Die sowieso schon hohen Preise sind weiter erhöht worden! Vor 2 Jahren hatte ich bemängelt, dass eine Currywurst mit frischen belgischen Fritten 12,90 Euro kostete. Jetzt 14,90 Euro! Das ist ABSURD! Lieber Inhaber...keine Currywurst kann so gut sein, dass dieser Preis gerechtfertigt ist! Wer diesen Preis zahlt ist SELBER SCHULD! Eine "vegane" Currywurst (igitt) mit einer Beilage 18,90 Euro! ABSURD! Sie berechnen für eine Portion belgische Fritten allein 6,50 Euro. Also für die "vegane Currywurst" alleine 12,40 Euro! ABSURD! Ich weiss, alles wird teurer. Darauf brauchen Sie mich in einer eventuellen Antwort nicht hinweisen! Aber Ihre Preise sind teilweise unverschämt! Das sollten sich Ihre Gäste mal überlegen! Vor einigen Jahren (bei den vorherigen Inhabern) war ich ein treuer und häufiger Gast im Zollhaus. Jetzt nicht mehr. Schade, denn ich mochte das Zollhaus! Und...als treuer, langjähriger Gast HABE ICH DAS RECHT, die jetzige Preisgestaltung zu bemängeln! Also bitte...keine Kritik daran! Und lieber Inhaber....ermuntern Sie mich bitte nicht wieder, doch mal vorbei zu kommen und Ihre Currywurst zu probieren! DAS MÖCHTE ICH NICHT! Mag die Qualität ok sein...bei diesen ABSURDEN Preisen würde sie mir im Hals stecken bleiben.

Draußen sitzt man an einer Durchgangsstraße. Italienischer Salat war okay.

Ich habe dort mit einer 18-Mann großen Gruppe meinen Geburtstag feiern dürfen und wir waren alle wie immer sehr zufrieden. Der Service war sehr schnell und das Essen sehr lecker. Danke und bis zum nächsten Mal!

Leckeres Essen und lockere Atmosphäre.

Super Schnitzel dort gegessen sehr lecker. Und ein super Service sehr aufmerksam.

Заказывали 2 вегитарианских овощных запеканки с одними проблемами: картошка горела снаружи, а внутри сырая (прям хрустела), остальные овощи также сырые, всё не солёное совсем. Заказали 2 порции из стейка средней прожарки- они полностью были сырые внутри, мясу не дали полежать после жарки и его было невозможно есть. Из проверенного было 3 миллиметра мяса вокруг и картошка фри которая шла в комплекте. Пиво вкусное, большой выбор. Обслуживание отличное. Еда разочаровала. Атмосфера самого здания уютрая. Но в помещении было одновременно недостаточно кислорода и сквозняк. В туалете маленькие значки обозначения "мужской/женский", можно перепутать двери. Не уверена что вернусь сюда ещё раз.
