Very tasty dishes from a clear menu. Fast and friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere.

Visit on Saturday, September 27, 2025: We had made a reservation for 10 people at the Postwagen over half a year ago, naturally requesting to be seated there. When we arrived, I was "relocated" to the Ratskeller, even though we had requested to sit in the Postwagen itself. The waiter who greeted us knew nothing about it: "I've only been here for two weeks, but we'll figure something out." Unfortunately, we're still waiting for that, and no compensation has come. The waitress who then took over our table was always overwhelmed, never asked for drinks, and our request to change a sauce was dismissed as "not possible" – and that for a roast beef (warm) that cost almost €35. We definitely won't be back.

Great interior and delicious food and drinks. The restrooms were also clean. Excellent and worth it. Delicious German dishes for everyone. We had 12 people, so it was great.

Cozy cellar restaurant with stone walls and a great atmosphere. Service was very quick and friendly.

Actually, a very good restaurant with traditional specialties: This time, the starter and main course arrived at the same time; two of the three courses were cold, and the staff were obviously untrained and overwhelmed. Unacceptable for this price level.

We snagged one of the last tables on the terrace and enjoyed a lovely evening with a view of the cathedral from the walls of the town hall. The staff was very friendly, even though it was very busy and we had to wait a long time for our food (so the espresso was on the house ;-)). The wait was worth it, because the food was very good!

Truly charming atmosphere, courteous staff, excellent value for money considering the magnificent location offered. We only had an aperitif so I can't rate the food but the service was excellent.

We weren't served for 20 minutes, but there are more restaurants in Aachen....

Simple ingredients, but incredible flavors and textures!! I've never eaten such tender beef! And that gingerbread and raisin sauce, so flavorful!! This cuisine is a change from what you're used to when you come from elsewhere! And then, the decor... a rustic, all-wood setting, it felt like you were on a boat from yesteryear! A magical and authentic experience guaranteed! Otherwise, the service was impeccable and fast. The staff was very attentive: we didn't like our first table (it was at the back where the decor isn't the same at all, rather modern but noisy), and we were able to sit where we liked it better; the music was too loud for our liking, so they even agreed to turn it off! The dish doesn't seem as filling as it really is, but when you take the time to savor it, you're quickly satisfied!

The food was excellent. And the terrace is really beautiful, with a view of the cathedral. The service was excellent. Truly a great location.

Two of us sat down and wanted to order, but then the waiter came and said the table was needed because six people had asked for a seat, after which we sat down, and so we had to leave. I don't think it's right that they only care about the extra money. I won't be going to this place again.

Previously, the Ratskeller (Ratskeller) served a separate menu next to the Postwagen (Post Car). We had made a reservation expecting this and were very disappointed to find that they only served the "rustic" Postwagen dishes, which were then presented in a rather shabby menu. The food was well-cooked, the service friendly, but nothing like the old Ratskeller.

Delicious food and a good selection of drinks. On our beautiful, long summer evening, we were able to relax outside the restaurant and enjoy a great view of the hustle and bustle of Aachen. It was easy to have a normal conversation while enjoying a delicious beer and truly hearty, home-style food. The restaurant's interior is very quaint and beautifully decorated. The different rooms have great details and invite you to linger. It's reminiscent of a brewery, and it aims to reflect that. The service is very friendly and attentive. You can spend a pleasant time here.

A friendly and attentive employee served us delicious food and drinks. However, what I experienced today was completely unacceptable. I actually don't want to give it a star... I've eaten at Postwagen more than once and was always so impressed by the staff, the food, the drinks, and the setting that I wanted to show my friend from Hamburg my favorite restaurant in Aachen. An employee offered us a seat on the terrace with a view of the cathedral, but we had to leave immediately because we didn't have a reservation. That's what the "manager" or whoever that was said. It's news to me (who works in the restaurant industry myself) that reservations are made on the terrace. There were several tables free, and none of them had any reservation notices. I've never encountered such an arrogant type of person as this "manager" or whatever he was portraying, even in Hamburg, where I now live. I couldn't resist going back to the terrace and asking the guests sitting at the table (assigned to us by the waitress) if they had reservations. They didn't... Simply unbelievable...

Great restaurant, we enjoyed ourselves every time, thank you to Jan and Johanna for their welcome and their professionalism! We can tell that the cooks love their job, and that the products are fresh and homemade. We will be back!

Everything was perfect. The place is magical, the servers adorable. Special mention to the one who let me choose to reserve the alcove directly overlooking the sublime Aix cathedral. Typical German food, generous, tasty, without frills, all for a price that Belgian restaurateurs should take inspiration from. Thank you for everything, we will come back

Two stars because the restaurant inside was almost empty and we were only allowed to sit outside, and is was cold and windy. I don’t understand why they don’t let the guests eat inside.

Good German food in a traditional place, the black pudding dish is great!

You arrive from the big city in the Middle Ages. This beautiful, quaint restaurant overlooking the market square offers first-class service and excellent food. In addition, a Pinot Gris from South Limburg is offered. We ate here yesterday and really enjoyed our stay.

We were there with a large company group starting at 7:00 p.m. At the request of the catering staff, we had to submit our meal requests from a limited menu a few days in advance. Despite pre-ordering, the food didn't arrive until around 9:15 p.m., and dessert at 9:50 p.m. Furthermore, two dishes were forgotten and never arrived. The food was tasty, and the service was friendly. However, waiting that long for a pre-ordered meal is unacceptable.

Es sollte eine dem Anlass entsprechend schöne Geburtstagsfeier (80) werden, zu der rd. 30 Gäste geladen waren. Etwa die Hälfte der Gäste hatte sich für ein Wiener Schnitzel zum stolzen Preis von 40€ entschieden. In jeder Frittenbude wäre das Schnitzel mit den dazugehörigen Pommes Frittes leckerer gewesen und hätte wahrscheinlich nur einen Bruchteil des horrenden Preises ausgemacht. Hinzu kommt noch, das keinerlei Garnierung vorhanden war! Letzteres traf auch auf das alternative Fischgericht (auch 40€) ! Nach mehreren Beschwerden bei der Geschäftsleitung ist keine Wiedergutmachung in Form von Preisnachlass angeboten worden. Deshalb: nie wieder und Warnung im Freunden- und Bekanntenkreis !!!

Very nice pub with the best cellar ever!! The shop is spread over three floors, has a doctor's room and is completely winding. You have the feeling of being on an old sailing ship. The waitress gives the impression that there is nothing better than being a waiter and is happy to give you one too! The ambience is great, as are the guests... I haven't enjoyed spending my money in a pub for a long time, the toilets are awesome and the drinks are delicious. There is also upscale cuisine from the Ratskeller. I can recommend the chocolate souflee. I come back here as often as I can!

One of the quaint pubs in Aachen! An incredibly great atmosphere and many different rooms to spend time in. Unfortunately it took a relatively long time until we were served, but then the service was very friendly and accommodating. The selection of drinks and food leaves nothing to be desired. There are also some local foods and drinks that are highly recommended.

Unfortunately our visit to this restaurant was a disappointment. The service was poor, the staff unfriendly and visibly in a bad mood. Just waiting for the menu took 15 minutes, and the drinks took another 30 minutes to arrive. Overall, not a pleasant experience - we won't eat here again.

We absolutely loved this place! The interior ambiance is warm and inviting, creating a wonderful dining experience. This was my second visit, and every time, the waitstaff has been friendly and attentive. This time, we only tried the appetizers, which were delicious, and we’re already looking forward to coming back to explore the main dishes!

Very very good service and meal, definitely recommend

We chose the mail van for a business lunch. Organizationally everything worked well, I had to adjust the reservation several times, and that worked out great. On the evening of our visit, however, we were offered the option of sitting in the Ratskeller, probably because it would be more comfortable for us. However, due to the atmosphere, we wanted to sit in the mail van and were a bit confused by the request. It may have been a challenge for the service, but the service was great and everything worked well. Food and drinks as we expected. All guests chose the schnitzel or the sauerbraten, so there was nothing to complain about. The dessert, apple strudel, was also ok. However, the toilets are a challenge because they are very small, but of course this is due to the conditions of the building. That's just how it is. All in all, a nice visit, the only negative point was the attempted transfer to the Ratskeller, understandable but not an option for us. But we were able to sort that out and then everything worked.

On Saturday my husband and I were in my old home of Aachen for the first time in at least 5 years. After a stroll through the city, we decided to take the mail van that we knew from the past. We both ordered sauerbraten, which was served after a short time. We liked it, but the portions seemed quite small; 2 small pieces of roast, 1 small dumpling, but quite a lot of red cabbage in comparison. After we had finished eating and had been cleared away, the table next to us got their food. Including sauerbraten. In comparison to our portions, the suspicion arose that we may have received the last portion of roast and dumplings and that it was divided between two plates. Since I didn't want to raise this assumption in front of the other guests, I went down to the counter and spoke to the waitress in a friendly manner. She promised to clarify it with the kitchen. After about 10 minutes, without comment, she placed two small plates, each with a dry potato dumpling, on the table. There's probably no need to write more about it...

Das Ambiente des Restaurants ist wirklich herausragend. Leider ist der Service der Ausgabe nicht gewachsen: Eine halbe Stunde oder länger auf Getränke zu warten, kommt hier vor. Zudem wurde eine Vorspeise vergessen und der servierte Wein war sauer. Das Essen war bei den meisten super, bei Himmel un Ääd muss man mit Maggi-Sauce auskommen. Für das vom Restaurant angestrebte Niveau (auch preislich), war es leider eine Enttäuschung.

Wir hatten an einem Dienstag im Februar 25, 18:30 h einen Tisch im Postwagen, 1 .OG, bestellt. Wir nahmen zu 6 Personen in der gemütlichen Ecke hinter den Butzenscheiben Platz. Das war es auch schon alles Positive. Jetzt kam nur noch Negatives. Die Stube viel zu kalt, nach und nach zogen sich alle Gäste wieder ihre zuvor angelegte Oberbekleidung Jacken und Mäntel wieder an. Wir sind doch nicht in Sibirien, draußen Warenbestand 2 Grad ohne Wind, nicht untypisch für den 04. Februar. Wir haben dann 90 Minuten!! auf unser Essen gewartet. Die Getränke brauchten jeweils nach Bestellung mehr als 15 Minuten, obwohl im EG eine Theke ist. Eine Runde wurde dann ganz vergessen. Warum man nach einer solchen Wartezeit und dieser hochkriechenden Kälte im Raum nicht einfach geht? Weil man dorthin eingeladen und sich nicht vollständig blamieren will. Ach so: Der Sauerbraten war ok, hätte noch was gebraucht, Himmel und Äd auch so, aber die Portion viel zu wenig, wie Kinderteller. Das Schnitzel für hungrige Erwachsene nach einem Arbeitstag ebenfalls sehr übersichtlich. Wiener Art, nein, das war es nicht. Wie Fertigware , 8 mal 8, lieblos. Alles in allem ein Reinfall auf ganzer Linie. Für 190 Euro. Was ist man blöde sich sowas bieten zu lassen? Und dabei sind unsere Ansprüche nicht hoch. Einfach gut essen an einem gemütlichen Platz, NICHTS davon konnte der Postwagen erfüllen, Schulnote mangelhaft.

Very large portions and very tasty! Schnitzel is incomparable

The lady behind the counter is very attentive. You don't stay "on dry land" for long. However, I think the switch from Bitburger to Krombacher in a rustic, traditional pub in Öcher is a strategic mistake. The prices quoted for Bavarian Helle etc. are at the upper limit for a normal pub. You can also go straight to a shop with international specialty beers. By the way, I'm only talking about the front pub, not the back vaulted cellar with restaurants.

There is no service, no crockery by the way. Walked away without paying for the first time in my life, and why? We waited 45 minutes for the first drink, 2 minutes later the second round of drinks came, then waited more than an hour and a half for the dish. After asking 3 times, the schnitzels that we had already ordered upon arrival finally arrived. Only no cutlery yet, after asking the staff twice we still didn't get any cutlery. In the end I ate with my bare hands. After dinner we waited another hour for the staff and the bill never came. We did our best to make something of it. In the end I just left. Schnitzel, although cold, was tasty. Reply to owner: December 20, 2024, although it was busy in the city, about half of the tables in the restaurant were EMPTY! The bar downstairs was full.

I asked if they have a menu for children, waiter says yes fish sticks with french fries, I ordered it and then they come with spinach instead of french fries, I complain as my kids do not eat this, waiter says oh sorry I made a mistake we only have it with spinach, the beilage salad for 6 persons they forgot and had to ask for it and when it came it had sand in it..do not recommend at all!

We were there as part of a Christmas party. The meal had been agreed upon in advance by the management. So there shouldn't be any delays, they thought. We were supposed to be there at 5:30 p.m. The meal didn't start until 7:30 p.m. The rounds of drinks that ran until then were Coordinated poorly or not at all. The staff was completely overwhelmed by the crowd of people in the restaurant. Sometimes people were forgotten and not asked. Or the wrong drink was delivered. This lasted the whole evening. The food was in Orderly and tasty. The building is old, and having so many people in the rooms makes little sense. The managers should get the staff on their toes, then things will work even in difficult situations. Maybe there is someone here who takes honest criticism to heart.

If you are in a hurry, don't go here, the beer is delicious but takes half an hour. When asking what was said, it only took a moment, but it didn't last a moment. Thanks for reading!!!!!!!!

Service (the young lady) was nice and the location was great. Very comfortable inside too. Unfortunately the food was below average. Unfortunately disappointing when it comes to the kitchen. We ordered schnitzel and leg of cheese. Schnitzel was wayllllll too hard, you couldn't bite it (it was in the deep fryer for so long) Goose leg was not at all crispy as it said on the menu. I wouldn't recommend anyone to eat here.

Very nice atmosphere, unfortunately none of the four service staff did their job reasonably well. First we were overlooked, then our food was forgotten. Most of the time we met at the checkout to discuss things. Too bad.

We have been here twice today (30 nov). Druring the afternoon sevice ok. Around 10pm, the service was really sad. The woman behind the bar took our order twice, yet no incentive to do anything, we left after 15 minutes

Beautiful surroundings, very tasty food, especially vegetarian and perfect and friendly service. We were there on a choir outing and everyone was very satisfied.

Atmospheric and located directly “at” the town hall. Classic beer glut with good regional cuisine. Had the “Himmel und Äd” (blood sausage with caramelized apple slices, mashed potatoes, with a delicious sauce. Plus lots of beer. Everything was delicious. Attention: the toilets are extremely small and narrow, not just for tall people. Not barrier-free (stairs and steps everywhere)

While passing through Aachen we came across this small authentic restaurant with traditional cuisine I think, for my part it was a schnitzel with a good beer and for my wife a goulash. Both dishes were excellent and the atmosphere of the restaurant takes us back to the past, it was a great experience, I will come back. The waitress was very professional and spoke a little French, making communication easier.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. I ordered a potato soup (which is more of a cream), a Kölsch (Pils-type light beer) and a Himmel und Äal (German black pudding with grilled caramelized apple and mashed potatoes).

Das Restaurant ist urig und wirklich interessant, leider ist der Service aber nicht so toll. Gäste die fast 20 Minuten nach uns kamen wurden bei der Aufnahme der Speisenbestellung vorgezogen und unsere Nachfrage deswegen wurde mit einer unschönen Bemerkung des Personals abgetan. Die Speisen waren lecker, aber leider wurden sie zum Teil nicht so geliefert wie bestellt und die Beilagensalate kamen erst nachdem wir an der Theke danach gefragt haben. Wir wollten nach dem Essen die Rechnungen Familienweise bezahlen, da wir sehr unterschiedlich große Beträge hatten die wir nicht anschließend selbst ausrechnen wollten. Dies war letztendlich nur an der Theke möglich. Die Bedienung am Tisch war nicht imstande diese Rechnung aufzusplittern.

Gran lugar para probar la comida tradicional alemana. El edificio tiene siglos de antigüedad, estructura de madera, mucho carácter. Tamaño mediano. Bar en planta baja, luego habitaciones para comer y beber en tres plantas. Comida de primera calidad, platos alemanes. Cerveza Krombacher. Personal amable y servicial. Realmente disfruté de una noche aquí.

Ein super uriges Restaurant, wie aus dem Mittelalter. Das Ambiente ist so toll, dass man gar nicht mehr gehen möchte. Das Essen war sehr lecker, das Bier ebenso. Die Bedienungen waren fix und waren immer zum richtigen Zeitpunkt zum Nachfragen da. Ganz toll!

One of the best schnitzels I've ever had

Regional cuisine - a few dishes have been put together with finesse for the menu. Delicious food in a historical atmosphere. Ideally suited when you are touring around. And despite the limited staffing levels, the service was extremely friendly and relaxed.

The service was great but unfortunately the food wasn't that great. The schnitzel had been in the deep fryer for too long, so the breading became very dark and the meat was very dry. The fries served with it tasted like old frying fat: It's a shame :(

For the first time in Aachen and in the maze of many restaurants in the city center, we decided to use the postal van. The ambience of the rustic pub alone doesn't make you regret such a decision, a place steeped in history that you can feel there. Added to the feel-good factor of the quaintness was an extremely friendly waitress, the staff is adapted to the location, down-to-earth and very pleasant. Diverse but clear food and drink menu, fast service and normal prices. The quality of the food was okay, although rustic like the restaurant, but still neat and good. We had Aachener Sauerbraten and stagecoach schnitzel. All in all...a recommendation, if only because you are warmly welcomed.

I was here for a quick snack around noon on a weekday. The food and the location invoke a very nice rustic and classic atmosphere. The server was very attentive and nice and my food arrived very quickly. The food itself was very tasty and the portion size was good to be filled without overeating.

Il locale é molto bello , uno dei piú belli di acquisgrana in una posizione fantastica. Quando siamo stati noi nel locale c´era pochissima gente , il servizio era ok e ció che abbiamo mangiato era buono,anche i prezzi erano nella media .Consigliato.

We were there just to drink, tried local beers and really enjoyed it. We sat downstairs and met really nice people there. Since it is small, we shared the table, exchanged stories and had a good time. The location is great and it's definitely worth going there and exploring the place.

I haven't been to Aachen to eat in more than 30 years. As a former resident of Aachen, the traditional restaurant “Postwagen” was of course a must. I was very surprised at how well maintained the ambience was. The food was first class, the service was very friendly and the prices were absolutely fair. The guests already present were also appropriate for the standard of the house. All in all a successful evening. I would love to go there again with my family.

We went there for drinks only, we had some local beers and we loved it . We sat downstairs and met really nice people there. Since it is small we shared the table, shared stories and a good time. It has a great location and its definitely recommended to go there and see the place

Nach 20 Minuten keine Bedienung. Die Kartoffelsuppe für 12 Euro spricht für sich . Leider habe ich noch einen 100 Euro Gutschein denn ich wohl günstig abgeben werden.

Was könnte das schön sein hier! Aber: die Einrichtung ziemlich zerschrammt, die Herrentoilette winzig, der Wasserhahn dort kaputt. (Angeblich schon seit langem gemeldet, aber nix passiert). Speisekarte deftig, aber im Vergleich zu anderen Möglichkeiten ähnlicher Art sehr reduziert. Auf's Essen dann 45 Minuten gewartet, obwohl Lokal fast leer war. Der einzige Lichtblick: die sehr nette, junge Bedienung. Überlegen Sie gut, ob das was für Sie ist: trotz des anziehenden Ambientes.....

Urige Atmosphäre, nur das Essen eine Katastrophe. Der Aachener Sauerbraten war eine Kombination von Convenience-Produkten, wobei der Kartoffkloss nicht gar war, der Rotkohl unangenehm süß und zerkocht war sowie die zwei Scheiben Sauerbraten ohne jeglichen Geschmack und bereits trocken waren. Zulange vorkocht, das arme Rind ist eines zweiten Todes gestorben. Leider ging es den anderen Mitessern nicht besser. Das Schweineschnitzel war zuerst innen roh, das nächste in der Friteuse dann trocken gebraten. Für den Preis eine Frechheit. Nie wieder!

Wie immer tolle Atmosphäre, gutes Essen und nette Leute! Aber das gepflegte Bitburger gibt's nicht mehr! Da müssen wir uns wohl woanders treffen. Schade Schade

Aachen'ın merkezinde harika atmosferli gerçekten iyi biraları olan mekan. Özellikle turistseniz bu klasil alman barına gelmenizi tavsiye ederim. Kendinizi zaman makinesiyle çok eskilere gitmiş gibi hissediyorunuz. Her şey için teşekürler. Bizz çok sevdik.

Immmer wenn ich nach Aachen komme, wird dem Postwagen ein Besuch abgestattet. Kleine Karte, aber schmackhafte Gerichte. Es ist schon eine Instiution.

Ein schönes Gasthaus im historischen Ambiente, jedoch vollkommen unzeitgemäß ohne vegetarische Gerichte, außer dem Salat. Wo sind die vegetarischen Schnitzel, Kartoffelpuffer und Co?

Zo zie je ze nog maar weinig. Een oud kroegje met goed personeel en goede sfeer. Lekker muziekje en een uitstekend Aachener bier
