When we have something to celebrate, we like to go to Il Mondo. The prices are high, but you usually get quality at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, that was definitely not the case today. The welcome from the kitchen consisted of various types of bread with various spreads. It was quite tasty, but for a group of six people, you get the same amount of bread as a group of two. I find that very unfortunate. For our starter, we opted for the Involtini di Melanzane. What initially sounded promising turned out to be three thinly sliced ​​eggplants with a buffalo mozzarella "filling" and served with a kind of grissino. Both were very salty and, at €18 per dish, more than borderline expensive. Markup or not. We waited over an hour for this cold starter. Only when we inquired were we told that there had been problems with a group that had spontaneously changed their reservation. My brother-in-law had the turkey salad, which was "quite okay." Not bad, but not a wow experience either. Well, just a salad, and that for €17. For our main course, we had three spaghetti allo scoglio dishes. When we asked the waiter if the mussels could be left out, we were told that it wasn't possible because the seafood was pre-portioned. Excuse me? "We could give them to the person sitting next to us," we were told. Sorry, but anyone charging premium prices should also offer a premium experience. What if someone is allergic to mussels (which, of course, we weren't asked about)? We also had the Black Angus fillet (the most expensive on the menu at €54) with rosemary potatoes, the Tagliata con Cipolle di Tropea, also with rosemary potatoes as a side dish, and the Black Angus surf and turf with truffle purée as a side dish. The surf and turf was cooked to perfection. Medium rare, just as I requested. However, here again the meat was oversalted and everything was so overseasoned with a cheese sauce that you couldn't taste either the meat or the prawns. The mashed potatoes were very gritty, and I didn't taste any of the alleged truffles. A real shame. The crust was apparently a pizza dough that was truly raw in places. Unfortunately, the quality of the fillet also didn't match the price. The tagliata was apparently quite okay. The waiters were also apparently so stressed that water ended up on the table every time they refilled. As already mentioned above, if you're calling for premium, please deliver premium. Unfortunately, we were so disappointed that we decided to forgo dessert this time. I'm happy to spend my hard-earned money, but I expect something commensurate in return. The spaghetti allo scoglio lacked seafood (very little), and the spaghetti was a bit "slimy" (limmosi in Italian) and, unfortunately, oversalted. Well, unfortunately, it wasn't a great moment today, and we're used to something different from this restaurant. Please don't rest on the good reviews; we'll definitely be happy to come back.

A real insider tip in Mainz! A small, fine Italian restaurant with a lot of heart. We received an extremely friendly welcome from the owner and gave us excellent advice - you can immediately tell that the work here is done with passion. Nach recht langem Warten wollte man die Bestellung aufnehmen , ich bat um Nudeln als Beilage zum Steak-die Agitiertheit des Kellners kannte keine Grenzen, wie ich auf die Idee käme, Nudeln als Beilage zu bestellen, in keinem italienischen Restaurant würde dies akzeptiert, ebenso nicht an diesem Ort. Ich habe den Kellner höflich darauf hingewiesen daß Erziehung zuhause stattfindet und in meinem fortgeschrittenen Alter auch nicht angebracht ist. Mein Eindruck: ChiChi auf hohem Preisniveau welches weder für das Ambiente noch den Service angemessen ist. Meiden! Auch wenn alle Lemminge hinlaufen.....

A unique gem in Mainz Finthen. One of the best Italian culinary experiences in the Rhine-Main area and, in my opinion, beyond. The restaurant is cozy and inviting and has a warm atmosphere, the service is warm and attentive and the food is to die for. We dined here on our wedding anniversary in September and what can I say? Everything was perfect through and through 🤩 This is how I imagine the perfect visit to a restaurant. Smiling, courteous reception, great, cozy atmosphere (I felt like I was in Italy in the small courtyard - you wouldn't expect that from the outside, Mainz-Finthen 🫢😅), fantastic service - that's really rare in Germany. And the food? Good to LOVE 😌 I had truffle spaghetti and the best tiramisu that has ever hit my palate 🥺🫶🏻 All around a special restaurant for a special occasion! 150% recommendation - we'll be back.

Having dinner at restaurant Il Mondo is an experience. Don't be fooled by the rather simple decor; food & service are excellent. Staff s very professional and friendly; all Italien. We had a wonderful deer carpaccio, smoked at te table: the carpaccio served on a plate with a cloche and an ingenious device to smoke it right away. Never seen before! Followed by a delicious Truffle risoto, a nice surf & turf and typical Scaloppe alla Milan. The have great wines: Brigantello (white, rose and red) from their own vinyards in Italy. We buyed some bottles of rose to drink at home, where it still tasted great. A pity we didn't buy more. When in Mainz we cebrtainly will go back.

We had high expectations - il Mondo delivered way above. The atmosphere was welcoming like an italian home, the service fast and attentive to the customers (not only our table) like only people loving their job can be. The spaghetti matriciana was better than in Rome, due to freshly made pasta and high quality guanciale (no bacon!). The spaghetti truffle and parmigiano were finished off with abundant truffle grated at the table, with a well balanced taste. You pay for what you get!

The restaurant and service it's perfect, really very good pizza. Carbonara pasta with cream is terrible, it doesn't make sense since it only contains cheese and eggs.

This afternoon I visited Il Mondo with a friend. The restaurant is stylishly furnished and, together with the pleasant and unobtrusive music, creates a well-rounded picture. The waiters are friendly and try to have some conversation. After the rather small but tasty greeting from the kitchen, we shared a vitello tonnato (€23.50) as a starter, which tasted good and the veal was very tender, but without sophistication, which I would have expected given the portion size and the price. The main courses for my friend were Spaghetti Don Antonio (a sauce based on spicy Italian spreadable sausage and Pecorino, €23.50), I had the spaghetti with mussels, clams and shrimps. Both dishes were presented very attractively on slate plates, the spaghetti beautifully draped. My friend was very happy with his dish, unfortunately I wasn't. The pasta itself was very good - the waiter emphasized that it was homemade and that's how it tasted, a little thicker than from the store, well cooked al dente. However, I found the seafood accompaniment extremely limited (2 mussels, 2 prawns, a few clams) and not very tasty. Unfortunately, the sauce was almost completely free of flavor, although it had a good consistency. It was supposed to be a white wine sauce, but I couldn't detect any of it. Since there was so little seafood, I ate mostly spaghetti in a flavorless sauce - not what I expect for €28.50. A lady at the next table had the same dish, she left half the pasta. My friend was very happy with the taste of his dish - he said it was spicy, overall harmonious and filling - and also found the price-performance ratio to be okay. Also on the subject of price-performance: I have never paid €8.70 for a bottle of water in a non-starred restaurant (0.75). Further: I found the chairs to be extremely hard because they were very thinly padded. When I asked for a pillow, they brought me a kind of couch cushion, which I then sat on significantly higher than my friend - not ideal. Conclusion: I won't visit the restaurant again, simply because I can't sit there comfortably. But the palate performance itself wasn't right for me, especially at the high price. As far as I can remember, I have never received so little value for a total of €50 all in. I give the 3 stars taking into account the ambience, the service and the positive perception of my friend. I would have given my main course at most two stars.

We have known il mondo for a long time and visit it regularly. The food is excellent and very authentic. We tried the truffle pasta on our last visit but unfortunately realized that we didn't like this type of truffle and the price was unfortunately very high. We were very satisfied with everything else, as well as the drinks and the service.

It's a high-priced but also really tasty Italian. If you want to eat super delicious pasta, pizza, bruschetta and be looked after by very nice, funny staff, this is the right place for you. It is a lovely experience to dine at Il Mondo. If you want to pay attention to your money, you're in the wrong place here.

... because of all the 5* reviews it's hard to dare to say anything critical about this restaurant ... but I'm still brave ... so I'll start by admitting that I'm fundamentally more critical and suspicious of expensive "fine Italians". (than compared to the usual trattoria around the corner) ... but here too I was unfortunately once again disappointed by the price-performance ratio - this is clearly more than borderline - high price level / portion sizes are hardly sufficient, especially for starters. There's no question that the quality of the food is fine, the atmosphere is elegant and the service is attentive. Anyone who is demanding and needs a lot of “Bohei” will feel comfortable. For me - I emphasize subjectively - both food and drinks are overpriced.

The food was very good except for the dessert. Fresh ingredients, good taste. The dessert just wasn't of a high standard and the espresso was also bad. I ordered a chocolate cake, a homemade mug cake would have been better... The service was mostly friendly, but occasionally a demotivated attitude shone through, for example when there was a request for a dessert menu there was a big eye roll. If I had known what a bad dessert was coming, I would have gladly avoided it. The ambience was very nice and made a noble impression! If the dessert and the service had been a little better, it would have been 5 stars.

A very nice restaurant with extremely great service. Friendly, courteous without being intrusive, attentive and knowledgeable. The food is more than worth its price. What should be highlighted is the homemade bread selection with 5 different variations, plus our own olive oil, ricotta cream and, depending on the season, truffle butter or tomato dip. Our visit was simply fantastic! The food is incredibly delicious and the service is absolutely great! We had the Ferrari pizza and the truffle pasta, and both dishes were excellent. My visit to Ristorante Il Mondo was a mix of ups and downs. Let's start with the positive: The food and the location definitely deserve applause. From the starter to the main course, everything tasted excellent and the authentic Italian cuisine came into its own. The ambience of the restaurant also contributed to a pleasant experience. It is comfortably furnished and you almost feel like you are in Italy. Unfortunately, our positive experience was somewhat marred by the service. Although the staff was friendly, they lacked attention and efficiency. A particularly disappointing moment was when we found out that the kitchen was closing and we could no longer order dessert. We were not informed of this beforehand, which was particularly annoying as we had been looking forward to a sweet finish to our meal. Overall, Ristorante Il Mondo offers good food and a nice location, but the service could definitely be improved. Better communication and more attentive interaction with guests could significantly enrich the experience. I hope the restaurant will make progress in this area in the future.

Centrally located in Mainz-Finthen, with a great atmosphere. Here you can also dress up nicely. The food is great, although the price is a bit more expensive than at the pizzeria around the corner. On my last visit, I unfortunately found the waiter a bit pushy, who came to our table every 10 minutes and asked if we would like anything else, even though we were still in the middle of eating and in no hurry.
