Super friendly, personable staff. There's also a small pool and sauna. The food was always good. It felt like there was always something to eat. Highly recommended if you're in the area for a short or long stay and don't need a 4-star hotel.

The hotel is in the lower middle class and suitable for people who need a warm meal and a bed in the evening after a long hike. The organization of the buffet room is chaotic and, despite the small size, could be significantly improved. The food is very simple and appropriate for the price! Don't expect too much here. The single rooms are old and very small, with dark toilets and showers. The double rooms also have old to very worn beds and interior furnishings. The toilets and showers still have plastic shower curtains and are very small. The staff, most of whom come from the neighboring Czech Republic, are friendly and accommodating and do their best to make any domestic problems bearable. All in all, a cheap hotel where you can't expect anything but the quality of the rooms, food, and service!

The hotel is quite dated. The rooms have been renovated, but the thatched roof is very old. Unfortunately, the food is always lukewarm due to the buffet format. Breakfast was unfortunately only substandard; eggs were only served every other day. They charged an extra €8 per day for the dog, and then he wasn't even allowed in the common room, meaning that dog owners had to go to their rooms after dinner.

If you like abandoned houses it's ok

1 star: The food and the friendliness in the hotel are excellent. 2 star: The wellness area is very modern and beautiful. 3 star: The location is wonderful for hiking. 1 star deduction: The rooms on the 2nd floor are very old and showing their age. Only the first floor is renovated. The beds are not good for sleeping. 2 star deduction: The shower was a catastrophe, I would just say that it was too hot at first and then too cold 10 seconds later, even though you didn't adjust the faucet. Edit: Now in our second stay we now have renovated rooms, the difference is like night and day. Food has also improved. Unfortunately nothing more has been done in the wellness area. And although it is beautiful now, it is no longer as beautiful as it was back then. Sauna only opens three times for a few hours. You can see that savings are being made wherever possible, which I think is a shame. I would also pay 100 euros more for more performance.

WiFi was not available in our room. The service was okay and the food was very good for the price (all inclusive light). The staff is very friendly and attentive. The sauna area is simply too small for this hotel and is visible from outside and from passing guests who want to swim. The swimming pool is around 8 × 4 m² and in my opinion too small for this hotel. We had room 28, which was a good size and had a balcony, but the bed creaked and was uncomfortable. The floor rattled and banged. The cupboard couldn't be opened either, the style was outdated in the 1970s. We will not visit this hotel again. Thought I'd go home after two days.

An outdated hotel, a bit shabby but clean. Staff friendly, food good, it's a shame that there is no restaurant in the hotel, because the town of Eisenstein has nothing to offer in contrast to Bodenmais, where you can take a digestive walk after your meal to see the place. Walking across the border to the Czech Republic, no problem. Conclusion: For the money there is nothing to complain about and if you do, you have to pay more, maybe then you will be more satisfied 😉

We were very unsure what to expect after the different reviews. But the friendly and quick communication in advance by email gave us hope for the best. The hotel looks quaint from the outside. Parking spaces in front were rather rare and occupied on the day of arrival. But then we found the second parking space. Unfortunately it was completely icy and extremely slippery. Unfortunately that was rather negative. The welcome and the first impression of the room (family room) were very positive. Large room, large balcony, everything clean and tidy. The furnishings were not modern, but comfortable. We can't really say anything bad about the food. Every day there was a soup, 2 main courses, 1 salad buffet and a dessert. For lunch there was 1 soup and in the morning rolls, silence, muesli, yoghurt, cheese and sausage. Everything was simple but the dinner was very tasty. The two employees tried to ask questions quickly and clear things up. The restaurant was modernized. Like the bath and sauna. The sauna area could be made a little more comfortable and protected. You felt like you were being watched by the pool guests. Unfortunately, there are always guests who don't pay attention to their kids, for example. We were there with two of us. Others, however, had to bang on the new wall with balls and otherwise paid no attention. A hotel can try as hard as it wants when it has such inconsiderate guests. We booked straight away for next year as the Waldbahn and ski bus are within walking distance. And it was very kind that a birthday table was decorated for our daughter. Really good value for money for us 👍

The hotel is already getting old and our bathroom, for example, still has a bathtub and is therefore a little cramped in there. But overall it was very pleasant and homely in this room. The all-inclusive buffet is clearly laid out but always sufficient and always very tasty. The wonderful offers to many excursion destinations, such as the short trips to Arber and Bodenmais. Very pleasant. The free bus rides, which are included in the guest card, also persuaded us to go on many excursions. We really liked it as a very affordable offer. Keep it up...

The room, the food (thanks to the chef, among other things, for the crispy roasts!), the friendliness of the staff, and the location of the hotel were all excellent for the price. We also used the pool and sauna; all highly recommended! We had also read the negative comments beforehand and absolutely cannot understand them! There's always room for improvement if you spend more money. :-)... I wish the staff and all the other guests all the best and would love to come back. Preferably when there's snow...

Rating for Hotel “Der Waldkönig” We spent a lovely week at the Hotel “Der Waldkönig”. The offer of 7 days all-inclusive for 269.00 euros was unbeatable. The breakfast was good, dinner had a choice of soup, several main courses, a varied salad buffet and a dessert. There was an indoor pool that was a bit cold. Two saunas were open on certain days of the week. The rooms were clean and comfortable, even if we found it a little getting used to that the bathroom only had a curtain instead of a door. The staff was remarkable - always friendly and tireless on duty from morning to evening. The beautiful landscape and the nearby ski area are further highlights that make a visit absolutely worthwhile. I'd love to come back!

Wanted and yet couldn't. We fell for it too. Holidays over New Year's Eve at a bargain price. Unfortunately, we just have to confirm the comments of our predecessors. The rooms were large and spacious with oversized blackout curtains that were far too long. At our assigned table in the restaurant it was so drafty that we had to wear a jacket all the time. Ultimately we left sick after 4 days. We're not actually spoiled holidaymakers, but we definitely won't come here again

If you are dissatisfied with the food or the ambience, it is advisable to find another hotel for more money. We wish all the staff and guests we met there a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. One star is more than enough. We canceled our vacation after 2 days. The staff was very unfriendly, the beds were completely worn out and there were disgusting mattress protectors on them, there were blood and urine stains on them. The “great” wellness area was only open 3 times a week. You had to lie down on Camping Plasik, which were also sagging. It was terrible so we decided to go home after 2 days. The breakfast was very one-sided. Hard baked Kaiser rolls, no cucumber, no tomatoes, nothing. The dinner was very meat-heavy. The whole thing had a youth hostel feel. The whole thing was so terrible for us that we went home after two days. Absolutely not recommended, stay away.!!!!!

We stayed in this hotel for a week with our 2 year old grandchild. We can only say good things. The friendliness of the welcome and the service Staff. From breakfast to dinner there was nothing to complain about. The room was very spacious, with a view of the Arber.The bed linen was changed twice changed.Have the indoor pool we in a clean condition bathed.We have the guest card used daily, by bus or train. The three of us really enjoyed it and would come back at any time come.

After staying for 16 hours, I ended my vacation here. The staff is unfriendly, a dirty bathroom, a smoke-filled cigarette room and food that looks so unappetizing that it's better not to eat anything. For dinner, overcooked roast pork with ready-made mashed potatoes or potato dumplings. Vegetarians are hungry. Red or white wine from the tap, coffee from a 10 liter tap and hard baked rolls with only one type of cheese. I've never experienced anything so low-level. It was clear from the staff's reaction that you had heard these complaints before. Since you have to pay in advance, the money is gone without the service being provided. Simply nobody cares. Unbelievable!!!

Absolutely disappointing stay – stay away! Not even worth ONE STAR! We booked a hotel through Holiday Pirates that was described as "baby friendly" as we were traveling with our 7 month old baby. Unfortunately our stay did not live up to what was promised at all! At check-in, the tourist tax was suddenly increased to €2.50 per person without prior information, and we never received the promised drink vouchers. Our room was in the attic, was anything but baby-friendly and was in a terrible condition - dirty, with broken tiles in the bathroom and full of cobwebs. It was also impossible to get the stroller into the room, which was obviously problematic for us with a baby. The overall cleanliness was a disaster. Despite complaints, cleaning was not done thoroughly and we even had to witness a cleaner mopping the floor with her bare hands and then handling bed linen and towels without gloves. This is just unhygienic and disgusting. The wellness area was also disappointing. The water in the pool was far too cold and the Finnish sauna never reached the promised temperatures. This is not only unprofessional, but also not baby-friendly at all. The food was also an imposition. Packaged sausage and cheese for breakfast, hard-boiled eggs that didn't seem fresh, and flies sitting on the open food. The worst thing, however, was that we had massive stomach pains after eating and ended up having to go to the hospital. Our stay was so bad that we ended it early. A complaint to the hotel has so far remained unanswered. This hotel is definitely not recommended – absolute failure!

The hotel was fully booked. Like ourselves, only older people. The food was a bit pork-heavy. But everything is good and nothing to complain about. Unfortunately the breakfast was without tomatoes, cucumbers and radishes but with grain rolls. Sausage and cheese always fresh and always the same without any variations. Not enough parking spaces at the hotel, but nearby. A good starting point for many activities. We didn't use the bathroom or sauna.

Great value for money! Four of us were there for a week. We had booked 2 rooms, which were right next to each other and connected via a private balcony. The room facilities were fine, there was a kettle and fridge. Room service comes twice a week to clean and replace towels. Food was good and plentiful. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet style, with everything your heart could desire. For dinner there was always soup, two different main courses, a huge salad buffet and dessert. Varied and delicious! The service was great and the staff was very nice, they always helped if there were any problems. The sauna is open three times a week and the swimming pool is open daily. We were completely satisfied, the area is great for hiking and there is a lot to discover!

Well, what can you say about the Forest King? Breakfast: a kind of hard baked wheat rolls, the cheapest sausage the market has to offer, and cheese as well. Dinner... well it was warm but that was about it. All inclusive but you have to pay extra for a cup of coffee in the afternoon. Personnel completely undervalued and therefore overloaded. We were very disappointed and cannot recommend it at all.

We stayed in this beautiful hotel for the second time from March 24th to March 31st, 2024 with our small dog. Many thanks to the boss who gave us the room we had last time when we booked. The entire staff, starting with the cleaning lady, were all super friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean. The food, which was available as a buffet and there were two different ones to choose from, was once again amazing, super tasty, big compliments to the chef, some five star hotels can't keep up, the food was always freshly prepared, and the breakfast buffet was also really great. We didn't miss anything. Soup, great homemade salad sauces, salad buffet, dessert. Non-alcoholic drinks, beer and wine that you can tap yourself are all great. Also big praise to Vera, who repaired my knee for me, she really has magical hands, I will book massages next time. Great starting point from the hotel for hiking or going for a walk. We can't understand some of the bad negative reviews. For this price the hotel is unbeatable and great, you get a lot more than expected, those who don't like it should stay at home next time. We really enjoyed it again and we will definitely come here again, that's for sure. The hotel offers a very good price-performance ratio. The staff speaks German and is very friendly. The breakfast buffet is rich with fresh rolls, several types of sausage, cheese, yoghurt, cornflakes... You could sign up for a midday snack the evening before. Coffee and cake in the afternoon had to be paid for. For dinner there was starter soup, 2 dishes from the buffet, plenty of raw vegetable salads, and dessert. Everything delicious - good home cooking. Non-alcoholic drinks, beer, red and white wine were included. The rooms with TV and WiFi were clean, the furnishings were not very modern, but totally fine. The pool was newly renovated, the water was clean. We went swimming every day. The sauna was on 3 days a week. We were very satisfied and can recommend it.

This is an insider tip. Rooms and all premises clean. Staff friendly and helpful. There is always a solution. Food and drinks excellent. Beds good. We had a great holiday with our family and 2 dogs and booked again straight away. The surrounding area offers so many opportunities from hiking to museums and leisure activities. There wasn't enough time to enjoy everything.

There is a fitted kitchen in our room, but without any pots, plates, kettles or other furnishings. At least there is soap in the bathroom but nothing else (no shower gel, no hairdryer,...) I didn't even go into the pool because I didn't want to catch anything. The sauna is only open three days a week, but I avoided that too (according to the travel provider there are other opening times) -> For me this is not a hotel but the worst youth hostel, if any -> Many guests leave after day 1, 2 or 3 even though they have booked a week, so it's not just us -> don't understand the positive reviews

No WLAN. Although the hotel advertises it, the in-house guest Wi-Fi does not reach all rooms. A problem that could be easily solved by purchasing a simple Wi-Fi repeater for €20 and installing it in a socket. But the service staff says there's nothing that can be done and ridiculously blames the weather for it. There are some safety issues in the rooms and in the wellness area.

After seven years of vacationing in Bayerisch Eisenstein again, we always enjoy coming here. The hotel used to be called Waldspitze, now Waldkönig. You will always receive friendly service here, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food tastes good, what more could you want. Even if the rooms (furniture) are older, it is still cozy and clean.
