Very nice staff and delicious food

Unfortunately it declined significantly after the change of ownership. The shop used to be one of the better addresses for good burgers, but unfortunately we won't be coming back. The burgers were relatively cold, despite being freshly prepared. In the vegan burger, the mushroom patty was tiny. The fries were quite ok. Prices have remained fairly stable on a positive note. However, the store overall does not appear to be well maintained. The toilets were only moderately clean.

For 8 years since I discovered this burger gem, I have been a loyal customer and have recommended the shop as the best I know and my favorite shop to anyone who asked. Unfortunately, I can no longer say this since the change of ownership because too much has changed for the worse. The quality of the meat seems to be different, not to mention the seasoning because there doesn't seem to be much there. There are also other rolls that don't fulfill what they're supposed to in terms of quality or taste. I think raising the prices and at the same time lowering the quality in order to increase the margin will have a negative impact on the store in the long term and will not contribute to the long existence of the restaurant. The renovation inside and the ambience are unfortunately more of a catalog style and lack character compared to before. Sadly, it seems I'll have to find a new burger joint.

Unfortunately, the quality has deteriorated significantly. Burgers used to be really tasty. The last time I was there, the meat was hardly salted, iceberg lettuce and watery tomatoes actually spoiled the taste. Everything was lukewarm including fries. I'm going to step away from this store for a while now. We spent €50 there for 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks and unfortunately the food was not edible. Service is very friendly.

Unfortunately there is no table service, which makes it difficult to eat in larger groups, but this is not a problem in smaller groups. It didn't bother us. The burgers were super tasty, the fries were crispy, the sauces were delicious 👍🏻 If we were in Cologne more often we would come regularly. All burgers can also be ordered vegetarian. There is even a small selection of vegan burgers. Had both a meatless and also one with meat. Both were on point. The ambience is functional and the shop is inconspicuous. You don't notice the store from the outside if you don't know it. But I can recommend the Hornochsen without hesitation.

With all my love, today we had a bad experience. In my opinion, a waiting time of 55 minutes with a small number of people is not justifiable. There is no way to order your food as a menu, which drives up the price enormously. If it had been tasty I wouldn't say anything. Only the sweet potato fries were well baked and completely over salted, the smash burger I ordered wasn't "smashed" but just fried normally. The size of the portion was more or less for the hollow tooth. And all of this for a bargain price of 52 euros for 2 burgers, 2 fries, 2 drinks and 3 small parmesan “sticks” that tasted like raw dough. Unfortunately not such a good tip

I can't imagine that the burgers in person are any better than ordering them via Uber Eats - either way, my delivery was really poor. The fact that it can take a while is a gift. But the burgers? The fact that they don't arrive warm is also a gift. We had the Köllefornia twice. It basically tasted like nothing. The avocado mash was not seasoned, nor was the patty, and on top of that it was completely cooked through. You had to look for the burger sauce, as well as the cheese. There were red onions on it, which according to the description are not there at all. Quite apart from the lack of taste, the price-performance ratio is simply not right at all. I gave five stars for the atmosphere because I can't judge it. But I won't eat a burger there again. There are now countless burger shops in Cologne, and luckily the selection is large enough.

I am very enthusiastic about the food! The veggie burgers were super tasty and the smash burger also tasted great. From the side dishes we had the onion rings, the truffle parmesan fries and the parmesan croquettes and it was very tasty. The service was also great. Location, ambience and furnishings were also nice.

I was here for the first time today, traveling from Düsseldorf specifically to enjoy such a culinary delight. Great reception, cozy atmosphere, very, very tasty food, the burger was great, the fries were perfect, I can only warmly recommend it. The trip here was definitely worth it and I'm looking forward to going here again.

Apparently there was a change of ownership here. The burgers and fries have become significantly worse. But I found the atmosphere really frightening. No one was greeted by the employees when they came in and the Lieferando drivers were ignored. Very unsympathetic and no comparison to before. Edit: I had a vegetarian burger. It has nothing to do with the meat. This is my second negative review ever, I usually rate positive ones. What should you discuss objectively on site if your answer is absolutely unobjective?!

The food was completely ok, but still very expensive! Unfortunately the service is disorganized and chaotic despite 4 people standing behind the counter. We pre-ordered yesterday and still had to wait 25 minutes in the store. This can happen, but communication should still be friendly. In addition, a burger was prepared incorrectly. We got a new burger, but unfortunately the ingredients that were ordered and paid for separately were missing. We waited another 15 minutes for the missing burger. In total we waited on site for 40 minutes. Of course the rest of the food was cold! There wasn't really an apology...

We were there with a group and the restaurant is simply not suitable for a cozy meal together. There is no service, you have to order individually at the counter and then, despite the long wait, the food came at a different time for everyone. Our fries came a good quarter of an hour before the burger. That's no fun then. The burgers themselves are good but not great.

Ordered smashed burger and fries. Unfortunately, the burger was a far cry from the classic smashed burgers like Boring or Goldie’s. Simply a limp slice of smashed patty placed in an ordinary burger. A lot completely apart. Fries were good.

Quite a few price increases of around 50% in the last 5 years and getting worse with every change of ownership (now the 3rd owner). It's a shame, it used to be an institution in Veedel.

Extremely tasty burgers and fries

It was really awesome – super juicy meat, fried until crispy, and the bun was perfectly toasted. I particularly liked the homemade sauces - they were really tasty and gave the whole thing that certain something. A really good burger place with a relaxed atmosphere, I'll definitely come back there!

My friend had the watermelon burger and I had the Kölefornia burger..🍔 Both burgers were incredibly delicious. The watermelon 🍉 in the burger also made the burger even more tasty... a must have in the summer time😍😍😍 There was a very tasty avocado 🥑 cream in my burger.. together with the tomato and the burger it was different delicious 🤤 The fries and the special sauce were just too good 👌🏻 An extra highlight was that we got 1 bowl (pickled onion 🧅) that was unusually tasty and a white cabbage salad...👍🏻 The location is perfect to enjoy the food and the area 🫶🏼

I was at Hornochse after work today and absolutely had to try the much sought-after burger that my colleagues had been talking about. The double beef burger was very tasty... Especially for someone who loves meat. I'm coming here with my girlfriend next week. Definitely a must try👍👍👍👍

Very tasty handmade burgers also suitable for those who are very hungry. OG dubbel is my favorite delicious medium meat and high quality cheddar. I've been a Hornochse customer for years and after the renovation it has become much more comfortable than before. In addition, the quality has definitely not decreased. Hornochse IS and remains number one in Cologne.

Went to Hornochsen for the first time today after it reopened. The ambience is impressive. It offers much more space and an inviting atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Conclusion: Still the best burger place. Keep it up guys!

Unfortunately, the Hornochse has no longer been what it was since it reopened. The ambience had nothing to do with the hip burger joint. The music was super loud, the waitress was sitting at the table when we entered and had her head on the table. The prices have increased but the quality has not. Instead of arugula as stated, there was iceberg lettuce on the burger and instead of homemade iced tea, one from a bottle. It's a shame but absolutely not worth it anymore.

The store has a new look, and unfortunately that doesn't mean anything good. Been here for the first time since the renovation, burger patty significantly smaller (half the size of the bun, and for 11€), veggie patty changed again (not for the better in my opinion, tastes like a green seed patty), fries still good, but also here smaller portion for the same price. Also, the fries are now in a Styrofoam clamshell, so unfortunately they don't stay crispy. All in all - the end of an era for me.

New owner, never again. Can't be compared with before, better double cheese at MacDonalds.

Chilli burger with sweet potatoes and smokey chipotle ketchup (mayonnaise!), with a homemade ICE TEA. Unfortunately, the sweet potatoes were too soft and stuck together (the consistency was reminiscent of croquettes), the large burger (180 grams) was delicious; The ICE TEA was at room temperature and unfortunately tasted bland. The waitress and colleagues* all made a friendly impression.

If you want to eat delicious, freshly prepared burgers & fantastic sweet potato fries, this is the right place ♡ Our favorite was the Royal Cheese Burger, unfortunately not in the picture. You can see the Sweet BBQ Burger, which was also great 👍🏼 Unfortunately the chilli cheese fries weren't my thing at all, but the sweet potato fries were A1! The service was also really good and the location and ambience just matched the food. We'll definitely be back ♡♡♡

Top, open for a late lunch (3 p.m.!). Fast service and very friendly employee. For two: a burger each and a portion of fries to share were more than enough! If you have a sudden craving for hamburgers, don’t hesitate! Also note for vegetarians: all burgers can be made without meat.

The burgers taste ok - but nothing special. The service on the phone is a disaster - very unfriendly, or just hung up on you. We have ordered or tried to order several times, but unfortunately something was always unsatisfactory. Then prefer Freddy Schilling at the Eigelstein.

The whole restaurant smelled so bad, probably coming from door of the kitchen which was open to the tables. Even after leaving the restaurant my clothes smelled like it. Also the meat was not tastefull, so i did not enjoy it.
