Höhengasthaus Haldenhof in Überlingen

This beautifully located restaurant, right on the edge of the forest, is perfect for dining or simply relaxing after a walk in the woods. Whether you're a jogger, hiker, biker, or family, there's room for everyone. Dogs are welcome. When the weather's nice, you can sit outside; loungers are also available for relaxing with a cold beer. The view of the lake is breathtaking.

The view is truly stunning and definitely a plus point of the restaurant. Unfortunately, our visit this time was somewhat disappointing in terms of service and organization. There were four of us, and our dishes were served at very different times. For my dish, the side salad arrived well before the drinks, but the Maultaschen themselves only arrived when the others were almost finished. The food tasted okay, but the Hugos we ordered were unfortunately inedible. In the end, we were also charged for a dish we didn't order (€12). Great view, but there's room for improvement in service and coordination.

Beautifully situated mountain inn with a fantastic view. The food is really good and everything comes out quickly. The staff is very friendly. We'd be happy to return.

The second visit was also great! We'd love to come back! We were pleasantly surprised: great service and fabulous homemade cakes made by the owner. The owner is knowledgeable about celiac disease and prepares gluten-free cakes with Schär flour! Also open for coffee!

Absolutely not recommended. Where do I begin? We were there on a Saturday around 6:00 PM, and about seven tables were occupied (beer garden) and three waiters were there, having a pleasant conversation. It took over 15 minutes for us to even be noticed, and that was only because I called our attention. Then we were greeted halfheartedly, and one of us didn't order a drink, which the waiter didn't like at all. From then on, we were treated with nothing but dismissiveness. The food arrived completely out of time. The plates were simply placed in front of us without a word. The food itself wasn't good either. The cream sauce made me feel sick for two hours. Luckily, you can't go wrong with drinks. I don't understand the positive reviews here. Maybe it just wasn't a good day, but we won't risk such a bad experience again.

The food was "okay." However, the waitresses weren't very motivated and didn't seem very happy in their jobs. Furthermore, when there was a leftover, the table was simply cleared without asking if it was eaten.

Anyone who lives in such a beautiful place obviously doesn't have to make much of an effort! Not recommended for breakfast!

A lovely beer garden and terrace. At the end of the grounds is a viewing point offering fantastic views of Lake Constance. There's a self-service area with chairs for relaxing. Service could be improved (requests for more drinks, waiting times for food and drinks).

We really enjoyed the view of Lake Constance. This is a highly recommended destination! The hike was rewarded with a wonderful lunch and delicious apple pie. Fast and friendly service, despite being busy on Mother's Day, and reasonable prices. A real highlight!

We ate here for Mother's Day. The food was very tasty and everything came quickly. Even though there was a lot going on, the waitresses seemed to have a complete overview. Our service was super fast, attentive and very friendly. We would recommend it to everyone and would love to come back again

The Haldenhof is a restaurant with lots of seats and a great view of the lake. The service was polite even if there was a lot to do for the service. The food was ok. My salad with chicken strips (more like medallions) was good.. the chicken schnitzel with a can was good... the spaetzle wasn't that tasty... the cheesecake was really not good, dry, over baked and shriveled (allow me to write this as a former baker and master confectioner) the coffee was delicious.. Prices tend to be in the upper segment for Germany but the costs are also constantly rising for catering companies...

Nice excursion destination with a great view over Lake Constance. Went there for coffee and cake and enjoyed the view. The service was friendly and the apple pie was good.

Today in the beer garden: “Can I order something from you?” "No" It's nice that certain traditions last for generations.

I can agree with the many previous speakers. At first we were simply ignored for 20 minutes. The first staff member I spoke to just turned her back to me, so I didn't know whether she was listening to me or not. After getting something to drink and eat, things would get much better. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that you can really eat gluten-free here. The gluten-free schnitzel tasted like a normal schnitzel. The food was very good and the portions were sufficient. The children's playground is great. Overall, despite very poor service, recommended. The view is a dream and the facility is also very beautiful. However, after a turbulent May 1st, everything was relatively dirty. The tables weren't cleaned either.

We were at Haldenhof today and unfortunately very disappointed. After our arrival we politely asked three times for drinks - but even after an hour and a half nothing came. No water, no wine, nothing. The service seemed overwhelmed and uncoordinated, which is a real shame for a place like this. After such a long wait and without any attention, we left the restaurant disappointed. This is definitely not how you imagine a relaxed visit to be. Unfortunately no recommendation

The location is beautiful, but it doesn't console the aggressive behavior of the host and his wife. We had lunch with the children in the hiking car park and were able to witness how the innkeeper gave in to a complete loss of control. Children scared, never again!

We waited half an hour without being served… then politely pointed out twice that we would like to order. After that we were just ignored. We left at some point and had a delicious pizza right by the lake

Went to the Haldenhof yesterday when the weather was nice. Despite there being a lot of guests, the staff had everything well under control. For such a large restaurant, the food was delicious. Wonderful location with a view of the lake and mountains. Very child friendly with a playground. Enough parking spaces available. We'd love to come back.

We ate here as a family of four during Holy Week. And first of all: We only had good experiences that day at the Höhengasthof Haldenhof. We were there right when the restaurant opened at 11:30 a.m. and were immediately greeted in a friendly manner by a male waiter. We took a little time to study the menu, but then ordered quickly - with children, sometimes every minute counts. The drinks came very quickly, the food order was also taken competently and we even received a reference to the daily menu with a corresponding recommendation. The food for the four of us was also brought quickly at the same time. The portion for the adults could have been slightly larger, but they were full at first, the children's schnitzel portion was generous. In terms of price, eating out is no longer something you can do twice a week for a normal earner, but the prices aren't exorbitant for home-style cooking either. You can argue about the rustic guest room and the somewhat outdated toilet if you really want that. This didn't bother us because everything was basically clean. The large number of seats suggests that you have to take waiting times into account, but the large number of locals and out-of-towners shows the attractiveness of the place - and the fantastic view is free. Mega! We would come again!

Bad service There were four of us in the Haldenhof. Two of us ordered an asparagus toast. This was served cold. We complained and within 3 minutes the two identical pieces of toast came back from the kitchen warmed up. The waiter didn't know which plate belonged to which guest. Unfortunately only one of the toasts was hot. The other still cold. We had to complain again. The toast was reheated and came back from the kitchen in a deplorable condition but still hot. When we paid we asked the waiter why no one apologized to us... he grumpily mumbled that he had apologized and left the table complaining angrily. I complained again at the counter that I had never experienced such poor service. Here the boss just mumbled a quiet apology. We have never experienced such poor service. We have no understanding whatsoever for this. Every euro was overpaid

The main service was friendly and competent. The other a Chaya…. The food was fine, but for the price the expectations were much higher.

I, too, agree with previous reviews. Beautiful view, unacceptable behavior from the waiters. After a hike, we understandably wanted to move from a shady table to a sunny one, as there were enough seats available, and we informed the waiter. We were then rudely reprimanded in front of all the guests, saying that this was not possible. After some discussion, we paid for our drinks and moved seats. The next waiter then told us that there was no self-service here. It's a shame that a long-established inn is damaging its reputation with such staff.

Wir hatten einen Tisch für 6 Personen reserviert. Sind freundlich empfangen worden. Bestellung direkt aufgenommen und Essen kam innerhalb von 20 Minuten. Schlachtplatte war super und große Portion. Preislich mit 19,80 auch echt top. Atmosphäre ist gemütlich und die Kellner waren freundlich und entspannt. Kann überhaupt nichts aussetzen. Jederzeit wieder!

As all the predecessors have already described. The space and the view is beautiful, but the waiters are very unfriendly. No smile, no thank you, the bill was thrown soggy on the table. We didn't feel very comfortable.

Gasthaus und der Ausblick mit Kinderspielplatz sehr schön. Das war es aber auch schon. Das Essen geht so, zum Fisch war Spinat angeboten lt. Karte aber seid einem halben Jahr haben sie diesen nicht, stattdesssen Salatbeilage .... . Ungenügend und frech / dumm / blöd und sehr frech und sehr unhöflich ist das Personal. Leider Ausländer die gebrochen unsere Sprache sprechen. Aber statt froh zu sein hier arbeiten und Leben zu dürfen, sind sind frech, unhöflich und inkompetent. Auf die Frage ob unser Hund Wasser bekommen darf , sagt die Bedienung vom Haldenhof ja draussen im Regen oder im Gathaus für Euro 3.80 und so weiter. Nicht zu empfehlen. Der weite Weg lohnt nicht.

Beautiful hiking trail with great views! A restaurant couldn't be better! Unfortunately, the food was a complete disaster, we are still sick from the fries and schnitzel, which were completely full of fat! I come from the catering industry myself and can't understand how you can go so wrong with fries! Staff unfriendly and extremely overwhelmed, but there were definitely enough service staff! It's really a shame that such a great location has been allowed to deteriorate like this! Sad!

Nice excursion restaurant with a great view over the western part of Lake Constance. Service was great, very fast, despite there being a lot of guests. Food...well.

We were there for lunch and were allowed to choose our own place. The waiter quickly came with the menu and asked us what drinks we wanted. After we expressed our food wishes, it didn't take long until the food was brought out. I had roast venison with chanterelle cream sauce and spaetzle. I also ordered a small side salad. My husband chose three types of fish fillets with boiled potatoes. The food was very good and plentiful, the salad could have used a little more seasoning and was also a bit sour. But that's a matter of taste. We were very satisfied with the service. We will definitely come back again.

We weren't that happy. The lake view is better in other places around the lake. The approach is more along tarmac dirt roads. Toilet a bit very old. There is only 1 cold water tap on the sink, which can also be turned on, so not very hygienic. Operation relative. Fast, but even though I had 1 glass of cider and 1 glass of sparkling water (both were in the glass) and my companion had an extra drink, my reorder of more spaetzle was understood as a special order and I would have had 3 glasses in front of me. With the roast venison for almost €28 there was a small bowl of spaetzle (the one I ordered again was larger!). The cream sauce with it had no gamey taste. The side salad we ordered for about $5 was also rather poor, without potato salad. My companion had 2 pieces of Maultaschen with salad. She had eaten much better ones too. Although we are not campers, we noticed a sign at the parking lot: overnight stays in a motorhome cost €20, regardless of where on the site. We think that's a bit bold, especially since people consume something before or after in the inn. Nothing is cheap there. We won't be coming back.

Great, great location. But that's about it. Staff have probably never attended a hotel management school, unfriendly and arrogant. Uniform work clothing is not available. We were there for two days, that's enough for a lifetime. People are definitely not animal-friendly; bottles full of dead (protected) wasps are probably standing around as a deterrent and warning.

Today the three of us were at the Haldenhof mountain inn. We weren't put off by the reviews and wanted to get our own impression. Sorry, we can't agree with the bad reviews. We had zander with dill sauce, minced steak with mushroom cream sauce, cream roast and a side salad. The food tasted good, as a meal in an inn should, solid and hearty, no chic, no frills and frills. Friendly service, everything was perfect. You have to think in advance about what awaits you in an inn. The beer garden was full, and looking at the license plates in the parking lot speaks volumes. Lots of visitors from the surrounding area and locals. So the locals in particular won't eat there if it doesn't suit them. We'll definitely come back because it was a good fit. The great view of Lake Constance is an additional bonus point.

Hervorragender Blick auf den Bodensee, sogar bis zur Mainau. Über 1000 Jahre alter Baum steht da oben. Mit Fahrrad muss man über 300 Höhenmeter überwinden, lohnt sich. Gastronomie zu teuer für einen Biergarten!

The Haldenhof has been a destination for us for many years because of its beautiful location and as a starting point or destination for hikes and walks. Little has changed in terms of the great view over the years. There have been some changes at the restaurant, which unfortunately are not necessarily positive. The price level is too high for the quality and quantity of food and drink. The staff is friendly as long as it's not too busy. When the restaurant is fully staffed with an outdoor area, it becomes Olympic-like for the staff when it comes to the routes. Many guests understand when things get tiring, others quickly become annoyed because they may have arrived too thirsty and want to be served quickly. If you only made the short walk from the large parking lot to the inn, you will hopefully be more relaxed. In high season there are not only a lot of guests but also wasps buzzing here, which can be quite annoying for sensitive souls. The old summer linden tree is definitely worth seeing as a natural monument on the viewing side. The interior of the restaurant is a matter of taste with the many stuffed animals and the outdated furnishings. The great location certainly doesn't excuse everything that the restaurant could actually do better. There is room for improvement in the seasonal business to stand out from other excursion destinations on the lake. So maybe just enjoy the view for a bit and then go somewhere else by the lake to eat.

I would describe myself as a rather uncritical guest, but what has become of this restaurant over the years is simply sad. The waitress really didn't feel like it...unwilling and grumpy, bordering on impertinent, in view of our super complex 3 drinks + 3 dishes order. 🙄 The food was uninspired, lukewarm tourist fare...yes, even the side salad was lukewarm and visibly wilted. The moon prices then put the icing on the cake. No, sorry...don't you have any professional pride at all? Whoever's running the place right now... get another job or pull yourself together and throw things around. Conclusion: Positive: location, view, children's playground etc. Negative: Everything else that makes a good restaurant.

Nice location, fast service! But spending a very manageable amount of lukewarm buttons in a bowl without any garnish with a spoon stuck in the food as Kässpätzle for almost 14 euros is cheeky and worth at most 1 star. Estimated cost of goods 2 euros, that feels like a “tourinepp”, I will never need it again. My wife's vegetable schnitzel with rice and vegetables was warm and OK, although at a rather steep price.

Wonderful hike with perfectly marked paths from Überlingen to Haldenhof

Beautiful location, but what grumpy service. We sat down for a drink and were still deciding whether we wanted to have a drink/eat with it. After seeing the food from other guests, we decided not to eat anything here (it looked like it had been there for days). When we said we just wanted something to drink, we got an angry look and he just barely threw the drink on the table. When we wanted to pay by card, this was suddenly not possible. There was no sign anywhere that you could only pay with cash, after we produced some cash he suddenly had no more money to exchange. The question was whether we really wanted it back (we had to pay €9 and gave a €20 note.... What do you think?????). After we waited for a while for him to come back with the money, we got another angry look and without saying anything he went to the next customers. Unbelievable that this place has such high reviews. I would never go here again!

I cannot share these negative reviews. We were there with 4 people on July 25th, 24th There, we received courteous, competent service and wine-related advice. The food came within 20 minutes, everything was fine. Anyone who complains that the staff doesn't speak perfect German should stay at home. Where would our gastronomy be without these people? We wouldn't be able to stop and be served anywhere anymore because everything is closed. We really liked it at the Haldenhof, the food, the service, the ambience, the great view, we would like to come back and will recommend the place to others.

I don't understand all these negative reviews!! I was there on July 14, 2024 with a 50-person AV group. Nobody had any negative comments about the staff or the food. On the contrary!! Ok, two side salads were missing from our table, but they were delivered quickly!! It's a restaurant where there isn't always a waiter standing behind you to hang up or pour a drink 😀. There's probably always a lot going on! The view is magnificent!!! In any case, no one in our group complained and we would all come back!!! Many thanks to the Haldenhof team Elizabeth Richard

Is worth a visit. We've been there several times. Great view. Food made from regional products. You don't necessarily have to eat, you can drink something and enjoy the view. There is also a playground for children.

I'm really having a hard time with this review. But this was our personal experience: we were lucky that the waiter we had along the way was relatively nice - a small ray of hope. Unfortunately, that was it. The lady who “welcomed” us at the very beginning was really unfriendly and apparently annoyed by guests. A pity... Unfortunately the cheesecake didn't taste good at all. Very dry. The latte macchiato tasted quite watery. The Haldenhof benefits from the really beautiful location. We were really looking forward to this trip. But overall this was disappointing. It's a shame that negative reviews are deleted by a lawyer. However, this only became apparent later. You should also be able to take criticism in the catering industry. This is the only way to improve or eliminate mistakes.

Good food and a wonderful view of Lake Constance

Great view, the beer garden is beautifully maintained. Interiors are rustic due to their age, but clean. Toulettes, on the other hand, should get a renovation. Food: Kässpätzle are a dream, schnitzels are quite large, but a bit expensive in terms of price. Fries are always good for the kids.

You can imagine how many times you've eaten in restaurants at the age of 54, but we've never experienced anything so catastrophic. We were served by the unfriendly, most impudent waiter of all time (although the word “service” doesn’t really fit in this case). At 8 he didn't want to give us any more food. Cutlery and finally the loveless warmed food were reluctantly thrown at us. There were 3 of us!! entire tables were occupied (8 p.m. in the most beautiful weather) and the previously used tables weren't even cleared away.... 3 gentlemen who didn't speak German sat in front of the television and watched the European Championships instead. I had to go inside to be allowed to pay and they didn't even say thank you when paying. My question about the boss of the house was answered with "there is no boss here" and "you have a problem"?! You really have to imagine that as a paying guest…a slang like in prison. At 9:15 p.m. a small child was stung in the back by a bee and the father wanted to cool the sting of the terribly crying child with water. When he wanted to go to the toilet, they had already locked the door of the restaurant and you couldn't get in anymore. 21:15 !!!Dirty tables, nothing was cleared, It couldn't be worse.Haldenhof - how can you ruin your reputation like that? What a shame for this beautifully located restaurant

Beautiful location. Unfortunately completely incompetent staff. How sad that such an idyll has such bad staff. The service is terribly bad. Drink prices are okay. The price of the food is not good for the idyll. In short, you can drink a coffee there, which is also quite cheap (2.90 euros), enjoy the beautiful view and then go eat somewhere else. Under no circumstances come to eat until around 8 p.m.! You can't get anything there anymore😰 not even anything cold. No idea why it's open until 9:30 p.m. Maybe for the view😉

No recommendation for the restaurant. The outside area is definitely nice in the summer, but the inside is completely out of date. You have to like it. But the worst thing was the staff. The gentlemen gave the impression that they were serving a punishment. While we were sitting at the table, they had no qualms about pulling electrical cables across the tables with eating guests in a construction worker's tone. As I looked out the window while eating, an employee was standing there smoking his quick break cigarette and spitting into the bush. Very appetizing. The food was just okay, but not enough for the price. But we will definitely not be coming back again.

We were eating there with our group after a trip, and the surroundings initially looked promising. But as soon as we sat inside and ordered, it turned out that the service didn't speak German. We wanted to know if there was anything else in last week's burnt cheesecake. However, the waitress didn't understand us, so we finally ordered the cake. When the cake arrived, we discovered that there were tangerines in it. We passed on the cake and ordered a Coupe Denmark, "from Aldi". The service was rarely there and very unfriendly. As in the red light district, we ended up constantly being asked for tips and the service became increasingly unfriendly. In the end they even took the money out of a minor's pocket, which is why we complained. Absolutely not recommended. Now I have a stomach ache on the drive home. 👍

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my visit. The staff was unfriendly and not very helpful. The cheesecake I was looking forward to tasted burnt and was barely edible. A positive aspect was the beautiful view that you can enjoy from the terrace. Still, that's not enough to make up for the negative experiences. Super nice place with a great view, but that's about it. Substandard service, order taken incorrectly and neither apologized nor corrected. Drinks are okay, but there's hardly anything wrong with them. Boasting about vegan food and then offering a dish and a (not well made) cake apart from salad is also unfair. We only visited the beer garden, not the hotel.

This inn significantly shifted the bar for the demise of German gastronomy. Visit Whit Monday afternoon. Start by looking through the menu... Asparagus dishes between €26 and €32! Conclusion: we actually just wanted to eat and not rent the shop. The “sausage salad” we ordered for €13 arrived within 2 minutes - it was definitely there from the night before and the landlord was probably happy to finally hand it out! That's how it tasted, not to mention the mini portion whose volume they tried to increase with cucumbers :(. The Maultaschen came from a can of Uncle Ben's that hadn't even been warmed up. The microwave was probably broken. But the wait for the beer was extended Over half an hour! The apology consisted of the ridiculous remark "the waiter doesn't speak German". The constant thirst was increased to the extent that the "beer garden" only served small glasses, which were well warmed tore the last two slices of bread from the table, which were supposed to fill us up, which the four of us were able to avoid due to our quick reaction. Each of us feasted on half a slice of bread. The view is great... But bring a picnic basket and a cooler bag if you want to enjoy them longer!

I can't judge the hotel, the restaurant is not OK. Mini fish platter, unbelievable for the money, the top location is simply taken advantage of, "they'll be back anyway", service??? You can go there to have a beer.

We were there again today. However, what we experienced today, Whit Monday at around 5 p.m., is unbelievable! Waited forever to order the food. Guests who arrived after us were served beforehand! My husband ordered a sausage salad and extra vinegar, I ordered asparagus toast. First came the side salad. Then nothing more for a long time. Then came my toast. Bread was untoasted and soggy, the asparagus was more cold than warm. I was almost finished with the toast - came the sausage salad. There was no extra vinegar. Waited forever again - asked several times. Then came a small gravy boat - with salad dressing - no vinegar! When paying, the waiter asked for a tip!! My husband gave him something. If the service wasn't enough - I threw it back on the table to my husband! and insulted him in Slavic language! Dear hosts - with such service you are scaring away all your guests!

Location very nice, but staff completely overwhelmed... Food quite good...

Höhengasthaus Haldenhof, great location above Lake Constance. Gigantic view over the lake. Good-bourgeois dishes. Great terrace and beer garden! If you are in the Lake Constance region, a visit is definitely a good TIP.

The location is great! Unfortunately the food was a flop! The prices for these ready meals are not justified.

Food more than bad. Had fries schnitzel and salad, the breading skin fell off, the lemon dried up, the salt you had to order separately, the cheapest of the cheapest for 5 euros, fries ok. My friend had chicken schnitzel without breading, strange why schnitzel then? And pay 50 euros for a tiny corner of herb butter? That was definitely the last time there and when we left and only left a small amount of drink money, he said something after us. I mean Hungarian is stupid when you understand it because you are Hungarian yourself. Just as a tip we'd rather!!

Klare Empfehlung! Essen sehr lecker und freundlicher Service! Sind im Sommer bei guten Wetter öfters auf dem Haldenhof und absolut zufrieden! Wir kommen gerne wieder ☺️

Also, seit mehr als 50 Jahren „die“ Institution … Man muss einfach immer wieder hierher, schon des Ausblicks wegen. Leider hat sich aber etwas getan was nicht mehr akzeptabel ist - die Preusgestaltung ist unterirdisch - Käse- oder Schinkenbrot über 12 EUR… wir haben uns dann mit einer Tasse Kaffee begnügt

Wir waren mit der Familie dort, haben eine Kleinigkeit zu Essen bestellt. Ein Ministück Hacksteak (eher Frikadelle) war 80% aus Brot und "pappig". Sauce dazu mit 2 Stückchen Dosenpilzen und Fertigsauce - und das für fast 16 EUR! Als zweites Gericht ein großer gemischter Salat. Es kam eine handvoll Salat - nur Blätter ohne etwas anderes und nichtmal wirklich angemacht für 8,50 EUR - unliebsam auf den Teller geklatscht. Ich sprach die Bedienung die fast kein Deutsch konnte an, es musste eine zweite Dame dazukommen die dann patzig auf meine Frage "meinen Sie das ernst für den Preis?!?" reagierte und dann entnervt den Teller wieder mitnahm. Es kam kurz darauf ein bissl mehr Beilage zum Blattzeug, war aber nicht wirklich besser oder mehr! Kuchen war unschön teils zermatscht auf den Teller geklatscht, Kaffeetasse/ Unterteller im Kaffee schwimmend und ein 0,4 L MangoSprudelSchorle für 4,50 EUR. Aussicht und Location war toll, der Rest - sicher nie wieder! Wir waren nun zweimal innerhalb von 5 Jahren dort - es hat sich leider nichts gebessert! Die Betreiber haben es offensichtlich nicht nötig etwas zu verbessern, denn es ist gerade wegen der Location offensichtlich ja immer gut besucht...da kann man vergraulte Gäste vermutlich gut verschmerzen?!? Für uns heißt das: Ausflug zum "auf die Wiese setzen" und das Mitgebrachte Picknick und die Aussicht zu genießen - gerne, aber definitiv lassen wir kein Geld mehr dort...
