Simply a top address! The Hesse is known for the belittling diminutive suffixes: Fettnäpfchen instead of Fettnapf, little plate, little pot, little lid..... However, the courtyard is actually a small courtyard where there are a few tables in the summer. There is no village linden tree or cowshed, no fireplace inside, etc., but authentic Szechuan (Sichuan) cuisine is served. In a "cross-cross street" to Fressgass, not easy to find; You first have to pass three cult bars (BB-Bar, Apfelwein-Klaus - which didn't survive Corona -, Buffalo) to find the courtyard. The drinks menu is small, wine only in bottles. We therefore chose a bottle of Paulaner wheat beer and a bottle from the Chinese Tsingtao Brewery, which has been brewing according to the German Purity Law since it was founded in 1903. The most interesting thing is the "homemade wine spritzer", which tasted like wine and a little like the stalk of lemongrass. Above all, it didn’t “go crazy”. The short corridor to the men's toilets is clearly visible; the women first have to find their way through a small labyrinth behind the storage room. The dishes on offer are sensationally delicious and really comparable to the photos on the menu. Szechuan (Sichuan, Western Chinese) cuisine uses pickled vegetables, garlic, Chinese cabbage and bamboo shoots and is known for its spicy preparation. It is considered to be the only one in the world that combines all available pepper-like spices in one dish. We've been here about 10 times, as a couple or in larger groups (the round table is a good place to sample the diverse selection). Today I was once again absolutely delighted with fried eggplant, braised pig's trotters (with bones) and strips of lamb with onions, cumin and lots of fresh coriander.

I was in the courtyard again a while ago. This is probably the hottest Chinese restaurant in town. If you don't try to get a table days/weeks in advance, you have no chance of getting in, at least not before 8 p.m. And, this should be said, if you can't handle spicy food or don't like it, you should give this place a wide berth. But for everyone else it is a pleasure without limits. The menu is extensive and extremely varied. During our visit, the scallops were the absolute highlight, also in terms of price. Not spicy but definitely recommended. You simply have to try them. But the beef in the small Dutch oven and the baked, stuffed aubergines with sweet and sour sauce are also really recommended. Of course, that doesn't mean that vegetables and many other things aren't recommended. But with two people, the number of dishes that come to the table is of course limited. However, the baked chicken with chile on the side was a bit dry - but that could also have been because it came at the end and we weren't really hungry anymore. The majority of this portion was then taken away and gave us another small, enjoyable memory of that evening a few days later.

The food is very authentic and tasted excellent. The restaurant deserves the very good rating and you can tell from the Asian guests, who are conspicuously represented here, that the dishes are traditional. Great menu with a large selection of specialties, some of which might seem foreign to us Europeans. But I recommend just trying everything.

The food was great authentic Chinese kitchen. They offer a variety of dishes of which we tried 5 different ones. They were all very good. The atmosphere is quite relaxed. While arriving right on time for our tablewe had to wait for 15 minutes to get seated as it was very busy. All fair and square. However, it then took another 25 minutes until we were able to order. The staff seemed to be a bit unorganised. We ordered 6 different of which one took over 30 minutes longer to arrive. We thought it had been forgotten and were okay with it. When it arrived we were already done eating basically and didn’t need our side vegetables anymore. When it came we stated this which resulted in the waitress to be very annoyed and stomping off. It has not been listed on the bill, which was good to see. Payment is only possible with cash or German EC cards so you cannot pay with MasterCard or Visa etc.

Unfortunately, I have never had such bad Chinese food as I did in this restaurant. Everything was inedible except for the rice. The spare ribs consisted only of bones, cartilage and gelatin, with almost no meat. The pork belly was soggy, unfortunately not crispy and poorly seasoned. The beef with chili oil was so spicy that I was full after just two spoonfuls and everything was burning. You probably have to be Chinese to appreciate this cuisine. The service is quick, very nice and attentive. For €3.50 a cup of jasmine tea seems very bland. Sorry, but we won't come back and would rather walk 50 meters further to Madame M.

Despite having a reservation, we were seated at a table with other people. Unfortunately the food wasn't anything special, a bit spicy, but very oily, way too much salt and not tasty. The service was miserable. We ordered three dishes, and after about 40 minutes the first one was brought to the table carelessly. After another 30 minutes the second dish arrived. After another 30 minutes we canceled the third dish and went somewhere else because we weren't full. A disappointment all in all. Not worth recommending.

My husband and I spent a wonderful evening in the courtyard yesterday. The food was excellent, very tasty and fresh. We enjoyed the grilled seafood, cucumber salad, sirloin, beef tongue and beef heart. The homemade iced tea was also delicious. Everything was of excellent quality and the atmosphere was cozy. My absolute favorite restaurant far and wide. If you like Sichuan cuisine, you can't miss the Höfchen if you live in the Rhine-Main area. The food tastes simply excellent. The staff is very friendly. It is advisable to make a reservation and come with as many people as possible, because you will share all the dishes you order, and the more people, the more you can try. Most of the dishes here are quite spicy by European standards, so you should be prepared for that. If necessary, just eat a lot of rice to compensate.

No, they are unfriendly. I am Chinese and I walked in alone afterwork at 1810. There were half of the tables still empty. They saw me came alone, let me order but told me I must pack to go as all the tables are reserved at 1900 and I must pay by cash or Wechat, it was never the case when I walk in with another non-Chinese, we can always pay by card! I ordered anyway but they force me to pack it home. I tried to ask the male manager in a friendly manner as he seems to be the owner but he never reply and pretend did not hear me eventhough I asked several times. I organized some big events years before but will never do so as this attitude by judging people by number is horrible! And this attitude by treating Chinese so unfriendly and rude and with no respect at all shocks me by all means. Especially, this a Chinese treating another Chinese badly in front of all people from other country is so humiliating! Dont go there unless if U have a Foreign face, they discriminate their own kind, for gods sake.

Highly recommended. The food is amazingly authentic Chinese and portions are large enough for sharing. The price may seem steep but very reasonable once the food is on the table. The design and ambiance of the place is authentic and beautiful. A rather cozy restaurant with limited seating, so reservation is highly recommended. As the restaurant becomes almost fully packed the moment their doors open for business. Service is great, servers are able to speak German, English and Chinese. They're efficient and mostly friendly, but they'll get the job done. We will definitely return again.

If you want a table for 2 persons, be prepared to be seated in the dark hall way to the toilet. Food is average. Some Servant is arrogant

Very authentic and tasty Szechuan chinese food. It would be perfect if this restaurant were as customer oriented as to accept credit cards. I think restaurants of this size (with customers from abroad) should accept credit cards.

The opening time is wrongly provided

Horrible by all means and very disappointing. I’m so offended and humiliated from the staff attitude. Also shocked as I never faced such rudeness in any country I visited. Extremely rude waiters. The waiters just walk away while you’re actually asking them for something. When you call on them they ignore and never come to the table. When I talked to the manager his reply was you don’t speak Chinese nor German then why are you here (in English). I have no clue why they’re accepting tourists if they won’t serve them nor respect them. Food was cold and undercooked. Some dishes took an hour to come to the table ( after we actually finished eating). Major attitude problem that almost turned into a fight in a rude way. Please don’t go there if you’re on a vacation it will totally ruin your trip. There is other cheerful delicious places.

I had high hopes for this restaurant based on the reviews, but I was sorely disappointed! Terrible service! The staff was rude and inattentive because we couldn’t speak German as tourists?! We had to wait for ages to get our food, and when it finally arrived, it was cold, poorly cooked and lacked taste ! they barely apologized and did nothing to compensate for the incident. Unacceptable!
