The food was delicious, including the Schäufele (roast pork shoulder), the pulled Schäufele, and the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle). We returned after a year. The food is still just as good as we remember it. The service was always friendly, even with the crowds!

We were a group of 14 people (male and female) at the Hexenhäusle. The cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and attentive and friendly service made for a wonderful evening on our trip to Nuremberg.

The food was okay, but there wasn't a huge selection. They specialize in touristy items like Schäufle (a kind of pork rib). Unfortunately, they only have Tucher beer. The red is okay, but I recommend non-alcoholic beer or wine, unless you're a beer drinker, in which case, you should go for red.

The Schäufele menu had crispy skin and tender meat, and the sauce went well with the Kartoffelknödel. It was delicious, but the Kaiserschmarrn was a bit lackluster, with too much dough and too soft. The apple sauce was a bit hard. Perhaps they were served in a hurry, but it was disappointing. The day I went, the atmosphere was good, except for the table next to me. There was a group of about 10 people, and they were very loud. They must have been drunk and drinking nonstop, ruining the atmosphere.

I was there back in 2023. I went there on purpose, thinking there was something interesting going on. In reality, the food was rubbish at high prices, and the outside was nothing interesting or noteworthy. The beer was tasty, like everywhere else in Bavaria. The service was unfriendly...

A very cozy atmosphere with a traditional menu.

The word "rustic" describes it well. Old and somewhat weathered. Just like the castle itself. Super friendly staff (one even from Frankfurt) and really good food. Pulled Schäufela (witch's feast), sausage salad, and dumplings with sauce (also for adults, for once). After 5 hours of enjoyment inside and out, it was almost hard to move on.

Wheat-free When we made our reservation online, we mentioned our wheat allergy. I mentioned it again when ordering at the restaurant. I opted for the Nuremberg sausage with potato salad. I had no reaction, so I can recommend this dish. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Making a reservation on the website was easy. All the waiters were very friendly, checked repeatedly to make sure everything was okay, and each of them knew the reason for the reservation and offered congratulations. The guests were very pleasant. The waiter apologized for the wait, even though it hadn't even taken 10 minutes to place the order. The food was served quickly and was very tasty. The outdoor seating is lovely, surrounded by greenery. When I was there in winter, it was very cozy inside. The Hexenhäusle is truly highly recommended!

Wonderful historical Biergarten, can't miss it

We are talking about the restaurant at the foot of the ramparts because there are 2 establishments. We are giving 1 star for the food because we were not able to taste it because we were not very well received despite few people outside. 2 waiters who pass in front of us and ignore us. After several requests and little or no response we decided to leave. The place was nice. We need to review the reception of customers.

Our visit to the "Hexenhäusle" in Nuremberg was, unfortunately, very disappointing overall. The service was unfriendly, we had to wait over an hour for our food, and when it finally arrived, it was the wrong food for the children. My own dish tasted more like it came from a can, and the spaetzle were obviously not homemade. Furthermore, the waitress complained about other guests who were rightfully complaining about the long wait. All in all, we will not be visiting this restaurant again on our next visit to Nuremberg.

The ambiance is very nice, and we wanted to visit a traditional Nuremberg restaurant again after a long time. The food we ordered was served very quickly and, for Franconian style, was very simple. Our first reaction was "Almächd" (Alpine muffin). The potato salad was well hidden under the mini bratwursts. The sauerkraut was generously served with half a slice of bread. So, all in all, we won't be coming back anytime soon. It's definitely only for tourists!

Without exaggeration, this was the best food I've had in Germany. The schaufele couldn't have been better, with a crispy crust and tender meat. The sauce was delicious, as was the side dish. Perfect for before, during, or after a visit to the castle, as it's right next door. The outdoor atmosphere makes it even better. I tried the typical Nuremberg red beer and I can say that the experience, along with the food, was perfect for sampling the local produce. The service was extremely attentive and pleasant. The price was also very good. I would definitely come back.

Historic beer garden in a prime location next to the Nuremberg Castle walls. The menu is typical of a beer garden and they have a good variety of beers. The prices are a bit higher than usual, but the location is worth it.

A very nice beer garden right next to the castle. Plenty of shady spots and good food. We were seated right away on Saturday as part of a larger group without a reservation. And the server was really nice.

During a training session in Erlangen, we visited this restaurant in Nuremberg. We had a traditional dish called Schaufele. The gravy was a bit watery, but the meat was delicious. The service was fast and good. Unfortunately, we were a bit late, so we didn't have time for dessert, as the kitchen was already closed.

Super friendly service (all of them), atmosphere befitting a witch's cottage/cool pub, location above the bureaucrat's—also a great location, only accessible via the castle or the one-way street behind the castle, you should definitely be able to walk well to get here; great selection of drinks, good selection of food too, though I feel there could be more choice; all in all, top-notch and highly recommended!

Nice place to have something to eat after a visit to the castle. I’ve read that it is quite touristy, but it isn’t reflected in the prices and there were plenty of locals dining/drinking here. The food was good, beer as well. Service was a bit slow at first, but once we got the menus everything was fine.

It's simply outstanding! The meat in the shoulder of pork was so tender and juicy, and with the sauce, dumplings, and cabbage, it was a dream come true!

The food was okay, but the service was... I'd give it zero if you give it zero. The waitress was totally unfriendly from the start. When we ordered, she asked us "food" as if we were animals. And, of course, the service was simply terrible the whole time.

We went to the Hexenhäusle today because of our visit to the castle! And as a "witches and Harry Potter fan," I thought the name was quite original. Great atmosphere, cool beer garden. Unfortunately, there's not much choice, especially for those with food intolerances or those watching their weight. The salad was unfortunately over-balsamic, but they've rectified that. I'd perhaps like something with chicken for those who don't eat pork! But that's just nitpicking. Otherwise, the staff is friendly and the location is cool, and the dumplings were good! Since we live in Austria, we rarely get potato dumplings, so it was brilliant that they had them. Keep up the good work, and we'll be back.

Unfortunately, the breaded schnitzel was soaked in oil. However, the service was very friendly.

The waitress who served us, as I believe, refused to serve us at the end of the evening because we spoke Russian and Ukrainian. She said that we were sitting with sour faces and that is why she did not want to serve us anymore. I said that I came from Russia, she told me, and then my classmate - go home! She asked where I was from? I said that I was from Russia, she said go to your Putin. Then she repeated the word Putin to my back, several times. In my opinion, this contains signs of hostility based on nationality, as I believe. For example, I have many friends from different countries, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, etc. The management, despite the comments, as I understand it, supported this behavior of the employee and slammed the window in front of me, through which I wanted to complain. It was disgusting. In short, guys who came, be careful. Die Kellnerin, die uns bedient hat, hat meiner Meinung nach am Ende des Abends den Service verweigert, weil wir Russisch und Ukrainisch gesprochen haben. Sie meinte, wir säßen mit „sauren Gesichtern“ da und wolle uns deshalb nicht weiter bedienen. Ich sagte, dass ich aus Russland komme, woraufhin sie mir – und später auch meiner Kommilitonin – sagte: “Geh nach Hause!” Dabei sortierte sie Servietten und sagte dann auch zu mir: “Geh nach Hause (zu Hause!).” Sie fragte mich, woher ich komme. Ich antwortete, dass ich aus Russland bin, und sie sagte: “Fahr zu deinem Putin.” Das Wort „Putin“ wiederholte sie mir mehrmals hinterher. Meiner Meinung nach weist dieses Verhalten Anzeichen von Feindseligkeit aufgrund der Nationalität auf. Ich zum Beispiel habe viele Freunde aus verschiedenen Ländern: Ukraine, Russland, Kasachstan usw. Die Geschäftsleitung hat dieses Verhalten, soweit ich das beurteilen kann, trotz meiner Beschwerde unterstützt und das Fenster, an das ich mich wenden wollte, einfach zugeschlagen. Das war wirklich widerlich. Kurz gesagt: Leute, die hierher kommen, seid vorsichtig!

Nice little place above the castle, classic Bavarian beer garden, great food with traditional Franconian classics, good beer and good desserts. The only shame is the high cost of water but it's like that in the whole region.

Nine of us visited the Hexenhäusle on a business trip after a stroll through the city. Everyone in our group was thrilled: The Franconian specialties were delicious and authentic, the service was prompt, friendly, and very funny, and the beer was excellent (a dark beer on tap from Scheyern Monastery). Due to the weather, we ate in the idyllic beer garden—but the interior is also incredibly cozy.

We only had a drink this time. A lot of positive developments have taken place here in recent years. I'm very happy. I'll definitely see you again soon, then we'll test the kitchen.
