It's great that you can get grilled chicken in a nice atmosphere and not just at the food truck in front of the supermarket.

Good food, tasty and still really hot when you eat it there or straight from the packaging.

We walked in without a reservation but the friendly waitress got us seated no problem. As we didn’t speak German, she tried her best with us but to make it easier, she got one of her colleagues who spoke better English than she did and we were looked after very well by her. We had the Pork and Turkey Schnitzels which were cooked to perfection with the meat still succulent with a crispy coating. I had the regular fries and my wife had the sweet potato fries, both were fried very well and were crispy outside with a fluffy texture inside. We also had some of their premium sauces (Gravy and Mushroom Cream) both of which were tasty and the mushroom one had plenty of mushrooms inside it too. They served Paulaner beer on draught and the ones I had (Kellerbier and Helles Urtyp) were very tasty and crisp. They do have a lot of other food options available too like half a rotisserie chicken which we saw at another table and it looked very good. By far the best meal we had in our stay at Stuttgart and we highly recommend them for a tasty, well cooked and affordable meal.

Really great food, absolutely perfect value for money. I had the Tersiner Rösti, which was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, there's no free parking. Everything is very nicely decorated.

We went to Hendl und Gretel for dinner on Monday at 5:45 p.m. for the first time. The service, apart from a few minor delays, was very good. The food arrived in a few minutes, I think less than 15. It was incredibly delicious and the portions were very generous. We didn't have a reservation, and almost all the tables were still available.

Great atmosphere and super friendly service.

We felt truly at home at Hendl&Gretl. The portions are so large that even Hansel and Gretel would have been full (and they ate a whole gingerbread house, after all). Super friendly staff, fair prices, and a selection that almost makes you want to kiss the menu – you'll go home full and satisfied.

I wanted to eat chicken again and ordered half a chicken and potato salad. I asked them to cut the chicken into two pieces because it was too much for me to take away. The waitress told me to sit inside because a lot of flies would come straight away. I stayed outside because I'd never experienced anything like that before. As soon as the plate arrived, a bunch of really green flies came flying. I took the plate and quickly went inside. The waitress was at the entrance and asked her where to put the plate, with my bag in her other hand. She didn't. That was at the entrance, and there were quite a few flies. There was a whole potato in the potato salad, and it wasn't fresh either. Since I was tired, I had another coffee. The manager was still walking around the restaurant on the phone. I wonder how fresh the chicken was if flies started appearing right away. That wasn't the case with the other guests. Pretty bad. I shouldn't have eaten or paid €20.40. Unfortunately, there are no 0 stars.

We always enjoy coming here. The food was once again incredibly delicious, and the staff was very friendly, no matter what shift they were on. We also really like the ever-changing decor throughout the restaurant. Very nice.

Neutral 3* for ambiance and service because we only ever order. If you only rate the half chicken, everything is top-notch, 5*. You won't find anything better in the Stuttgart area. However, the chicken wings, for example, are never marinated in-house and are of similar quality to the half chickens. Super fatty, greasy, taste completely different, and also look completely different from the chicken itself. Why don't you make your own? It would be much tastier. Otherwise, the Kaiserschmarn is very tasty, but unfortunately, there's no option without raisins, or it's not visible via the delivery service. We'll see how the other dishes are with our next orders.

Today, I ate at hendl & gretel in Stuttgart-Ost with my boyfriend for the first time, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. We sat outside, but there were an awful lot of flies, which quickly became unpleasant. My boyfriend took his plate inside to have it wrapped to prevent flies from landing on it. This wasn't meant to be malicious, but simply a precautionary measure. The waitress immediately reacted with irritation, and this irritable mood continued throughout the entire visit. When we asked for the bill later, she said, "It's coming right up," but we still had to wait over 10 minutes while she walked past us several times, serving other guests. When she finally arrived, she placed the bill on the table in a noticeably annoyed, almost bitchy manner, only briefly mentioning the amount and appearing completely lacking in empathy. You could really tell she was fed up and very unprofessional. It's a shame, because the food was truly delicious, making it all the more unfortunate that the service spoiled this impression.

We came to this Restaurant on a Sunday night. The food was great, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the waiter was very friendly and on top of things. I have never experienced such a friendly waiter!! The only downside was that we had to wait quite a while for our food, because it was so busy. I would definitely come back again, because of the friendly waiter, but bring time.

Hendl & Gretel Stuttgart – Juicy half chickens at a fair price I visited Hendl & Gretel in Stuttgart today and ordered half a chicken to take away. I had called ahead to pre-order if necessary and avoid waiting. However, the lady on the phone kindly explained that this wasn't necessary, as the chickens were already prepared. When I arrived, the restaurant made a very positive impression: clean, well-maintained, and beautifully decorated – quite different from what you might initially expect from a chicken specialist. The staff were also neatly dressed and friendly. In fact, it took less than five minutes from ordering to pickup – just enough time to use the restroom. I do have one small criticism: the packaging isn't entirely leak-proof, and some fat oozed out of the sides, which unfortunately soiled my clothes. The chicken tasted amazing. The meat was extremely juicy and therefore had an intense flavor. It wasn't too fatty, but not too dry either – just right. The skin on my to-go chicken wasn't particularly crispy, which might be important to some guests. It was seasoned in a classic way, without any special experiments, but still very tasty. For under ten euros, the value for money is excellent in my opinion. I highly recommend Hendl & Gretel – both for eating in and for takeout.

There were three of us there. We made a reservation for the same day through OpenTable without any problems. The ambiance is exceptional yet understated. The service was super friendly, even taking several photos upon guest request. The food selection is sensational and delicious. The price is reasonable; I highly recommend this place! Best chicken in Stuttgart, top quality and cool people

We ordered food from Wolt. It was absolutely delicious! There was a dish missing (whether Wolt was to blame or not wasn't clear), but after calling, everything was quickly resolved: we got our food and something extra. Very friendly staff and great chicken. Highly recommended 🤗

We visited Hendl & Gretel for lunch on July 17, 2025, and it was simply fantastic. As a child of the 80s, I painfully witnessed the closure of the Wienerwald restaurants, so I'm all the more pleased that Hendl & Gretel exists. Fortunately, the former owners of the Wienerwald continued to run their restaurant, with great success. The reception and service were very friendly and competent, and we felt very well looked after the entire time. The food was, as expected, very good, and my grilled chicken with crispy fries and mixed salad was simply fantastic. My wife's truffled chicken was also a dream, and we had a truly fantastic lunch. The drinks were also very good and met our expectations in every way. We can only recommend Hendl & Gretel and would like to thank the entire staff for the great hospitality. Now I don't miss the Wienerwald anymore, because I know where I can eat delicious chicken in the future. Of course, there are other tempting dishes on the menu, but I'll try those on future visits.

If you want to enjoy a real and delicious Viennese fried chicken in Stuttgart, you have to go to the east of Stuttgart. There are no better ones! We feasted outdoors under the black locust tree. Beautifully planted borders, old olive trees and little traffic. An idyllic corner, friendly service - an idyll. We like to wait 30 minutes for the chicken. Every single one is worth it. A poem!!

So the condition was very strange and unfriendly, I ordered chicken soup and chicken with rice. Only soup was delicious. What was strange, first I got the rice with meat and then after 10 minutes soup and I had to ask myself if the waitress could warm up the second dish for me again. I don't understand why soup comes second? After rice and meat, who still wants soup for dinner? So very strange and the food wasn't that tasty either, I was with my partner and because of the way the service was served my partner ate everything alone and I alone but if we were together 😂 that was the first and last time there, Greetings

Today we ate at Hendl&Gretel in Stuttgart. The decision was very short notice and we spontaneously reserved a table. This was uncomplicated and necessary because when we were there, new guests kept coming and unfortunately many of them couldn't take a seat because it was already full. A reservation in advance is highly advisable. We were welcomed and seated very nicely. After a short wait, the drinks were taken and then the food order was placed. The food didn't take too long to arrive either. The food was very, very tasty. Thanks again for the good hospitality and the delicious food! I can definitely recommend Hendl&Gretel!

A true pleasure – Hendl&Gretel impresses across the board! Our visit to the Hendl&Gretel restaurant on Good Friday was an entirely positive experience. The absolute highlight was the fried chicken – juicy, perfectly seasoned and simply delicious! The salad with fresh asparagus was also a poem and spoiled our palate. We were very impressed by the fresh ingredients and the harmonious dressing. We would particularly like to highlight the excellent service staff. 👏Simon and Tina 🥰 made our day with their kindness and helpfulness. They were attentive, courteous and made us feel very welcome at all times. Due to the excellent food and exceptionally good service, we can unreservedly recommend the Handel and Gretel restaurant. I grabbed some classic fried chicken and coleslaw today. The chicken tasted great, freshly made, juicy and well seasoned 👍 The coleslaw was to die for, I could have fooled myself 😉 I fully recommend it.

Very tasty food at reasonable prices apart from the desserts. 13€ for a Kaiserschmarn that is a convenience product and has only been warmed up is ridiculous, the portion may cost maybe 6-8€ given the quality and quantity, but 13€ is just exorbitant for such a cheap product. The service is great, the waitresses are very courteous and nice.

Kässpätzle are quite creamy. The color of the spaetzle is also quite white. If you prefer traditional Kässpätzle, these are not particularly recommended. The taste is ok. Portions are normal/large.

After helping our daughter move to Stuttgart and we usually go to Hendl and Gretel Fellbach, we were curious about the Stuttgart restaurant. We weren't disappointed. Just like in Fellbach, you will be treated to excellent food by very friendly staff. You just feel comfortable, the atmosphere is right and no matter what you order, it just tastes good.
