Brauhaus atmosphere meets modernity The staff are extremely friendly, we initially had to wait a long time for our delicious Augustiner, but after consulting, our waitress apologized, so everything was fine. And then came our veal schnitzel with mountain cheese and salad (20 +5), as well as pork schnitzel and potato salad. Both of excellent quality. You can taste it! Super well baked, the side dishes without any things in them that don't belong. You can choose between small and normal portions, just a good concept! The service then ran smoothly. By the way, the toilets are also very clean Thanks also from our dog for the water :)

Super tasty veal schnitzel and a great friendly team! We felt well hosted and kindly looked after. Despite the store being very full, we got new food and drinks quickly and quickly and the prices were right too. Gladly again!<3

Unfortunately, our visit to HeimWerk Altstadt was a thoroughly disappointing and annoying experience. Reservation and reception Our group arrived in two parts. While the first group was shown to our reserved table without any problems, the second part of the group, which arrived about five minutes later, was almost turned away by the staff. It suddenly said that no table had been reserved for them. Only after a discussion and renewed reference to the existing reservation were they allowed to sit with us. service During our entire stay, the waiter only came to our table twice in two hours - once to take our order and once to bring the food. Not once was we asked if something was missing or if we wanted to place further orders. The waiter only served from one side of the table, which meant that in a group of more than ten people we had to shout across the table. Neither when ordering nor when serving the food did he show any willingness to go even three meters further in order to serve all guests equally. Everything had to be passed through - absolutely unprofessional for a restaurant of this type. Lack of hospitality: The waiter consistently seemed impersonal, humorless and obviously demotivated. It was clearly noticeable that he had no interest in his work and showed no interest in ensuring that his guests had a pleasant stay. Escalation in payment When we finally wanted to pay, we first had to go to the counter to even find staff who would serve us. When the waiter finally appeared, the person who requested the bill asked him to move to the other side of the table as it was tiring to communicate across the large table. The waiter showed no understanding, but reacted annoyed and initially refused. Only after a heated discussion did he come to the other side, albeit with an aggressive attitude that further escalated the already tense situation. When we asked the waiter that we would have liked to have ordered more but no one asked, he responded unimpressed and snippy with "Now I'm here, what do you want?" When we then angrily said that we just wanted the bill , he replied completely disrespectfully: “Take it easy, dude.” When we asked for the boss, the waiter first introduced himself as the boss, which later turned out to be a lie. After we repeatedly insisted on speaking to the real boss, he came threateningly closer to us and aggressively asked: “What do you actually want?” Do you have a problem?” It was a completely unprofessional escalation of the situation. The boss who was finally brought in initially showed no understanding of the situation and tried to continue the discussion. Only when he realized that we were right did he stop the discussion. At least paying afterwards went smoothly – a small ray of hope in an overall catastrophic service experience. Eat The food was mostly okay, although part of the cordon bleu dish was still raw - an absolute no-go. Mistakes like this shouldn't happen in a restaurant. There are no classic sauces such as mushroom cream or hunter's sauce for the schnitzels, only special dips that are not to everyone's taste. It would be desirable to offer a larger selection that also takes more traditional tastes into account. Conclusion Visiting HeimWerk Altstadt was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. Such unfriendly and incompetent service as well as disrespectful treatment of guests is unacceptable. One thing is clear to us: There is no second chance for this restaurant and we cannot recommend it under any circumstances.

We were visiting Düsseldorf last week and chose Heimwerk for dinner. We were more than pleasantly surprised. Since we booked a little before the general dinner time, choosing a seat wasn't a problem. The service was very friendly and quick (Hannah) and the DIY concept really impressed us. Because there are small and normal portion sizes for all dishes, you can try several dishes and also choose between vegetarian and meat dishes. You can taste the freshness and good quality of the ingredients. We liked it so much that we visited the restaurant again two days later and once again we were not disappointed. We can fully recommend DIY.

We were beginners to schnitzel and this place offers quite a few options. We had a couple of the smaller ones as apparently the large ones are the size of a plate! So tasty and friendly service. Really recommend the truffle dip and meatballs as a side dish.

The service gets 7 stars - everyone was in a good mood, friendly, relaxed, funny. Rustic modern furnishings, perhaps a bit dark at the table. Food very good, special requests possible, good quality!

Interesting concept, classic German dishes also available as a 'tapas' version to share. In terms of taste, we found all the dishes to be very average, nothing really stood out, but all the dishes were ok (schnitzel, fries, fried potatoes, cheese spaetzle, pretzel with dips). It was disappointing that the prices of the dishes available online did not match the menu in the restaurant... In some cases there was an almost 50% price increase on the smaller dishes. The restaurant also seems to be aimed more at tourists. The service is very nice and yet professional.

The food was great, BUT the service was a complete disaster, no attention was paid to it, the table was cleared about an hour later, we wanted to order something else but the waiter didn't come back. Unfriendly and in the end we were insulted! The very last one! No recommendation!

We ate here today (without a reservation). I was really looking forward to having an authentic schnitzel from Germany, and based on the good reviews, I had higher expectations. My pork schnitzel was very bland, and I had to add salt and pepper to give it some flavor . I had never eaten such tasteless meat before. The other dish was a crispy chicken burger, but it was also quite bland; without the sauce, it would have been nothing. Paying for the toilet in a restaurant? You don't see that in the Netherlands... It's quite strange. The service was very friendly. The restaurant was quite busy and noisy, but I don't consider this a downside. Another downside: I went through all the effort of translating the menu and spoke to the staff in English, but I wasn’t offered an English menu. Who knows, maybe the "bland schnitzel of the house" was on the menu, haha.

Went to the DIY with the family in the early evening and felt very comfortable. The service welcomed us and served us in a friendly manner. We sat at a nice table and it was a pleasant atmosphere. The schnitzels are excellent and if you sit close to the kitchen like we did, you can hear how the schnitzels are freshly prepared and beaten. The quality of the meat was good and the sides we ordered were also delicious. Gladly again!

The schnitzel (cordon bleu) was super delicious! Too bad the service is really dull and unfriendly. It seemed like no one wanted to work. Super tasty schnitzel, freshly fried, breading as it should be. Delicious pretzels. The coleslaw salad was also simply great. The service was very attentive. A bit noisy in the restaurant but normal at peak activity on a Friday evening.

I just can't get my head around the fact that I paid €10 for 2 slices of celery without any side dishes, some of which were thinly breaded, with a perceived cost of goods of 20 cents. Unfortunately, the alternatives were out. Otherwise the rest was still fine. The normal schnitzels were probably good. The staff were friendly. For a “Bavarian” restaurant, I think it would also be nice if you taught your staff what it means when you order a light beer so that you don’t get asked in return whether you want a beer. But that's a matter of taste.

Species-appropriate animal husbandry vs. non-species-appropriate customer husbandry A week ago we had our company Christmas party and had a reservation at the Heimwerk in the old town for 2 hours. The atmosphere was inviting and cozy. But not worth 5 stars either. A solid 3 is appropriate here. 2 of our 3 tables were able to order drinks first because the group for the 3rd table came 5 minutes later. We got our drinks after about 10 minutes, but out of solidarity with our other colleagues we decided to wait until they could order or have their drinks before toasting. However, that took another good 20 minutes, so we decided to order the food with this “momentum” order. Another 15-20 minutes later the food came. The portions were, let's say, ok considering the quantity. Given the price, I was already thinking of a larger schnitzel. But ok. It was delicious. The quantity of side dishes was too small for them to be counted as a separate order. Hence 3 stars. While we were eating we even managed to order and drink a second drink. In the Schlüssel, Füchschen or any other restaurant in the old town I would have had at least 4 old delivered. Somehow they didn't want our money here. We were there as a company with a budget of a good €1000 that we could have left behind. After this time of 1.5 hours, some people wanted a little something for dessert. So, southern eatery. Oh Kaisersxhmarn. We order that. So 3 kaiserschmarn, various nightcaps and espressos. As I said, we still had 30 minutes. The drinks came quite quickly this time. But when the cellar arrived 20 minutes after we ordered, we were all stunned. He came with a bag of wool and brought us dessert to go. When we asked what that was about, and that no one had ordered it in that form, we were just looked at askance, as if it was our fault if we expected to be able to enjoy dessert at our place in the last half hour. There wasn't a single sentence beforehand like "if you'd like dessert, you're welcome. Please understand that unfortunately this is only available to go as your table will be reserved for others in 30 minutes". Nothing like that. Truly "Eat or die - it doesn't matter what, but please outside!!" What were you thinking? It was 7:20 p.m. We stand out in the middle of the old town and eat Kaiserschmarn with our hands?? Our boss complained about this and demanded that the costs be taken off the bill. After a few protests from the waiter that he would have to rewrite the bill, this was finally done. When this discussion was over, we just thought "ok, drink it up in peace and get out of here". But no. Then the same waiter actually comes, collects all the glasses, starts wiping the table and says coldly: “Now you really have to go”. I've never experienced anything like that. Yes, it is Christmas time and yes, Düsseldorf's old town is full and bustling. But service is a foreign word here. So we left the restaurant with a good €300 left over, which no one here wanted, and looked for a place where we as customers would receive friendlier service. We could/were allowed to spend/get rid of our money here. Home improvement - yes, we went home from work. And certainly not there anymore.

Given the hype surrounding the chain and the price-performance ratio, I expected much more. Fortunately, the friendly service was able to save the overall impression.

Nice restaurant where we had lunch twice. It is well occupied during lunch. We didn't make a reservation, but we were lucky that a table became available. Reservations are therefore wise. There is a wide variety of dishes where you can choose from normal or snack. The snack variant was enough to feel satisfied. Despite the crowds, we didn't have to wait long for our food.

Burgers and schnitzels (pork, veal or vegan) at their best, crispy fries made from fresh potatoes. If you're tired of Altbier, you can get Bavarian beer on tap and a fine selection of wines. Tip: leave a little space for the main course and Kaiserschmarren with Nutella for dessert! Super nice, attentive team, food on the table quickly, value for money. See you soon again!

Checked on spec to see if there was still a table available for 2 people. Fortunately, we were able to sit at the end of a large table where a group of people were already sitting. It's busy for a reason because the food is delicious! Freshly prepared schnitzels and side dishes also very good. Service friendly, but you did notice that it was getting busier. It's also nice that there is an English map, that made it a bit easier to read! I can imagine that the restaurant has a noisy atmosphere because there are often large tables and a large space. But personally we were not bothered by that.

The service is super nice, smelled good, also the team is super friendly. Unfortunately I am a super hero and couldn’t take my mask off. So everything else deserved five star review and I will definitely come back unmasked.

The food was delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was a bit noisy but definitely worth a visit.

Delicious food but had to wait a very long time to get a table. When we got a table after an hour of standing outside, it took another 20 minutes before our order was taken. There were also a few free tables inside, while there was a line outside. When I asked about this I was told that the kitchen needed some breathing. In the end we had a delicious breakfast, but they really need to respond better to the crowds.

I visited this place a few weeks ago, it's a nice place, comfortable and the staff is very friendly. I had a pork Schnitzel, that it was really nice but you had to pay extra for fries, salad etc. The pretzel was really nice aswell. Toilets were clean on the first floor. If I had the opportunity I will visit again.

One of the best schnitzels I've eaten so far. The beers were good, even if one of the special craft beers was unfortunately already out. If you come as a group, a reservation makes sense in the evening. I was lucky enough to get a table.

Unfortunately it was “almost” not served at all. We stood there for ages until we were assigned a table, and without further inquiry we were seated next to other people who were confronted with it without asking (they didn't like it either), and these friendly neighbors at the bench then offered us their menus because we were there Didn't get any from "service"... Here we were left sitting with the others without any kind of conditions. After all this, we decided to leave the restaurant without eating anything.

Excellent food, beer and service

The food was really great. The offer, the nice service man and the location were absolutely top class. In terms of price, I fully agree to pay the higher value according to the concept of the dishes offered. Unfortunately, there was one thing that I didn't like at all, but it was politically related and had nothing to do with the service, the cuisine or the place itself. There you are instructed to only make one bill per table for groups. I had guests at the table that day, some of whom were being entertained for business purposes. Only under discussion was it possible to get a split bill for the guests whose bill the company wanted to foot. A guest also had to step in for the other self-payers at the table and be compensated by their colleagues afterwards. There has to be a better way. The guest alone should make the decision whether to pay separately, together or with a separate invoice. Based on the discussion and practice, I would not eat there again with any group. For me, a good experience in a restaurant does not include discussions about how to split the bill, keeping track of my colleagues' orders at the table, or later checking who paid how much and what is missing.

The atmosphere is very nice, but it is difficult to find a seat without a reservation in the evening. Prices are a little high but the food is delicious. The staff is fast and friendly. Chicken schnitzel and roasted potatoes are recommended. I paid 26€ for the food and drink in the photo.

We went here for lunch on our last day in Düsseldorf and wished we'd found it sooner as we would have visited more than once. The crispy pork schnitzel and chilli pork schnitzel were delicious. We ordered roasted potatoes as sides and they were so tasty, compliments to the chef. The schnitzel comes in snack size and meal size, snack size is one schnitzel, meal size is two schnitzels. You have to order sides and sauces separately. This restaurant has a really nice atmosphere, it is very clean and the staff were very friendly.

November 2024 Delicious beer, great schnitzels. We met up with work colleagues here on weekdays. First of all: superior service, friendly, very good. Schnitzel was very tasty, even during the week it was really crowded, so a reservation certainly makes sense. You could certainly have given it 5 stars, but I hope you don't get mad at me... Tastes are different,... I currently have no motivation to visit the restaurant again. Conclusion: It's best to test it yourself, schnitzel lovers will certainly have a better opinion than me ;-)

Delicious cuisine, something for everyone. Great: you can order smaller portions and try them out or put them together yourself depending on your appetite. Service was super nice and attentive, water is free. The mushroom schnitzels and spinach dumplings were very tasty. Was my first and not last visit.

Super tasty, there are large and small portions. I always enjoy coming here, also suitable for lunch during the break. The cheese spaetzle didn't quite suit my taste, otherwise everything was very good. It can get crowded at peak times, so you'll have to wait a little longer. The potato salad is particularly good.

Schnitzel really tasty, breading sometimes a bit greasy. Great idea with the snack portions. Service quick and nice. The ambience looks nice, unfortunately it was not taken into account that where there are a lot of people it can be very loud without sound insulation, therefore only 3 stars for the ambience.

We had a crowded dinner in this restaurant as a group 14. All of us were satisfied and happy with food and service. I ate schnitzel burger made with Pork. It was a delicious burger. Waitor who served us was helpful and kind. Although we’re crowded, service of food was real quick. Overall, it was quite good and I definitely recommend this place. Pricewise, it was ok. We paid 33 euros per person with 2 drinks included. There are really good options for vegans and vegetarians.

One of my friends recommend this restaurant, so I took my colleagues here. It was extremely busy on Sunday night! We booked the table so we didn’t have to wait long. I was a bit disappointed that my chicken- Schnitzel was burnt and the French fries was a but too dry. The 🍺 were the best!
