We were there today and were very impressed; the service was friendly, fast, and reliable. The food was very good and arrived quickly after ordering. Overall, it's also a very cozy place. Con: The beer price is a bit high...

Very quick and uncomplicated lunch service.

Today, to conclude our visit to Hamburg, we ate at Heimathafen. It was very crowded and noisy. The starter, a fish soup, tasted like instant broth with fish pieces, and the main course, three kinds of fish with fried potatoes, arrived surprisingly quickly (about 3 minutes) and was very salty. For that, the price of almost €70 for two people was quite steep. We wouldn't necessarily recommend it and won't be going back ourselves.

Not a special restaurant at all. Everything is very fast, but the service is poor. The price is okay, but I would try something else.

Fantastic!! The only downside: The online reservation system said there were no tables available for the next three days, but there was plenty of space when we arrived. Then it got really great. Lovely nautical decor, a very friendly welcome, excellent service, and delicious and reasonably priced Aperol Spritz. The food arrived very quickly. We had Labskaus (a traditional North German dish) and Hamburg-style pan-fried fish. Delicious red berry compote for dessert. It was a lovely experience and not overly expensive.

We spontaneously decided to dine at the Heimathafen inn without a reservation and had dinner with three people. The food was reasonably priced and generally tasted good. I was a little disappointed with the Labskaus (a traditional North German dish), as it had been different from what I expected. The menu is varied, so no one has to go home hungry. The service was adequate, although friendliness seemed to outweigh efficiency a bit. The restrooms were clean and well-signposted.

We spontaneously decided to visit on December 5th, 2025, and given the large crowd, we hadn't expected to get a table. However, after about a 5-minute wait, the young waiter managed to offer us one. We were particularly pleased to find the kale dish on the menu, which we ordered twice. It was delicious and fresh, and everything was served very quickly. The other dishes that were brought to the other tables also looked very appealing. We will definitely come back on our next visit to Hamburg and try something else from the menu. Solana clear fish soup...nothing special. Good service.

We each ordered a pork schnitzel. One of us had fried potatoes with onions and bacon, the other had fries and mushroom sauce. We were both really hungry and looking forward to some delicious schnitzel. We ordered our drinks beforehand, with friendly and helpful service. Unfortunately, the Spezi (a German soft drink) had six ice cubes mixed in. We'd barely started drinking when the food arrived in less than five minutes. I hadn't expected it to be that quick. The breading on the schnitzel didn't look homemade, and the meat itself resembled processed meat. On top of that, the schnitzel was lukewarm. Unfortunately, I can't say anything better, except that the service was friendly and the atmosphere was cozy.

Just to get by. The burgers were average and overpriced for what they were. The waiter got indignant when we didn't leave a tip; he didn't realize we were in the US, not Germany. 50 euros for two burgers and two drinks. We were hungry and stopped there, but if you have more time, there are definitely better options.

We had reserved a table and were given a nice spot. The staff came very quickly and asked if we wanted our first drinks, which arrived just as promptly. After we ordered our food, it arrived very quickly and was delicious. Unfortunately, no one paid any attention to us after that. Eventually, the empty plates were cleared away, and even though our glasses were empty, no one asked if we wanted anything else. We would have liked to stay and have another drink or dessert. But we left. Before leaving the restaurant, we went to the restroom, and I wondered when it had last been inspected. It was far from clean.

The service was simply outstanding! I've rarely experienced such attentive and professional service. The food was a delight. However, it was very busy, as we had to reserve a table online at very short notice.

Food is only ok. Not worth the price

I can't complain, the food was good and the service was great.

Do not expect a hearty, well cooked German style meal. The schnitzel offered at lunch came with an ok portion of ok fries. The stewed mushroom reminded me of Campbell's mushroom soup. The meat ... well for 8.90€ I guess two thawed, thin, pre prepared ready to cook piece is what you'll get. I highly recommend the backfish; I went on the recommendation of Gabriel Zabala from Hamburg Walking Tours. Svenja served me in perfect English and was wonderful. I would definitely go back.

Food was unfortunately very greasy

Went here with a big group of co-workers and we had a nice time. Dinner time is required to book if you have a big group as rhe restaurant was quite full. Dessert was already not available by 8pm, however that's a minus to me. Overall, highly recommended to anyone visiting Hamburg.

Anyone who hasn't yet dined at this wonderfully rustic restaurant with its fine cuisine (located opposite the Elbphilharmonie) and remarkably reasonable prices simply doesn't know Hamburg. Experiencing this exceptional service at least once is a must on any visit. You immediately feel welcome, valued as a guest, and personally appreciated. The menu is varied but not overwhelming, offering something delicious for everyone – including vegetarians – from salads and burgers to schnitzel and fish and chips. And let's not forget one of the most delicious tiramisu imaginable. Pampered inside and out, you'll leave with a smile, already thinking of your next visit (that's how it is for me every time).

We were a party of four at this restaurant on November 29th, 2025, at around 7:00 PM! We tried to reserve a table by phone that morning, but it wasn't possible! They told us to just walk in! When we arrived in the evening, we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table! We were allowed to sit at the bar and order an aperitif in the meantime! The service staff was very friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious at very reasonable prices for the location! I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Hamburg! We will definitely go there again on our next trip to Hamburg!

Dear Heimathafen Team, I was expecting such a snarky response from you. If you run out of dessert at 5:45 p.m., it's either a sign of poor planning or a sign that you don't want to offer dessert to your guests. The next guests were already waiting. Perhaps you should seriously address your negative reviews. When we're in Hamburg, we usually love going to Heimathafen. This time, we reserved a table through OpenTable. It worked without any problems. The service was friendly and attentive. Due to the large number of guests, we had to wait a little longer for our food. The food was delicious and plentiful. But towards the end, things got a bit unpleasant. We would have loved to have dessert. But unfortunately, there was no dessert available at 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday evening. The menu only lists three desserts. We discovered the supposed reason when several people suddenly started waiting eagerly for our table. The male waiter was quite annoyed because we didn't clear the table quickly enough. What a shame. It was supposed to be a nice evening, but this kind of behavior is a great way to alienate your guests.

We ate at a restaurant yesterday and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. During the meal, someone in our group lost a filling, which was naturally surprising and annoying. When we brought this to the staff's attention, however, they reacted very casually and rudely. Instead of showing understanding or at least inquiring about the incident, they even accused us of having deliberately provoked it. We found this behavior disrespectful and completely unprofessional. Overall, the evening was very disappointing, as we had been looking forward to a pleasant meal.

Absolutely fantastic location, super friendly staff (although completely stressed out), BUT the food was lukewarm at best, the cheese on the burger was so hard you couldn't cut it, and they were out of dessert (at 5 pm), hence the point deduction.

Restaurant with typical Hamburg food, the food is very good, the service is very attentive, and the mustard sauce is spectacular. The Hamburger Pannfisch is highly recommended.

We were eating there and found a stone in our salad. When we pointed this out to the server, she was very unfriendly and accused us of lying.

A charming restaurant with a lot of heart and delicious food. Our server (Stephan) introduced himself personally right at the beginning. The hospitality industry needs people like him, who make you feel completely at ease with their passion and charm. Even though the place was packed, everything ran smoothly and in a totally relaxed manner. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back.

Our waitress was fantastic, unfortunately I don't know her name (she had long black hair). She was incredibly customer-oriented, friendly, funny, and had lovely conversations – very personable! The food was okay, but the fries were a bit greasy, and it tasted a little like it had been pre-cooked and reheated before serving. The caramel coffee and iced tea were great!! The location is very pleasant.

I ordered a BBQ burger, which included crispy bacon. I was really looking forward to it. However, the bacon was only warmed up and completely soggy. What a shame... But the rest was good and tasted great.

We had the Wiener Schnitzel (pork) with fried potatoes and extra pepper sauce for €2.95, plus a side salad for an additional €2.95. The meat was definitely a convenience product and hadn't seen a pan! It was also far from having a crispy breading. The fried potatoes were very oily, and the sauce was from a ready-made packet – unfortunately, it tasted like it! The side salad was tasty. I wouldn't come back. It arrived within 3 minutes, and it tasted accordingly! The veal schnitzel from the next person looked good, had clearly been pan-fried, and tasted good, according to them.

The St. Pauli burger was good. The service was friendly. The food arrived quickly. What annoys me is having to order side dishes separately, which was the case here. But the wider fries were still good!

Mass processing in a noisy, train-station atmosphere, so you can hardly hear yourself think. On top of that, the food is practically thrown onto your plate because they have to be quick. And it tastes exactly like it. Most tourists probably only fall for this tourist trap once. These sums are enough for the place to survive. And then you also overhear the staff (I think it was the owner himself) gossiping about other customers. Clearly, all that matters here is the money people spend, not the people themselves. Well, if you like a noisy, crowded atmosphere and lukewarm food, then this is the place for you. We'll never go back.

I ordered fish, but there was little fish there. But there are a lot of fatty fried potatoes. I’d rather not eat. And the prices are only in the German version of the menu, the English version has no prices. The staff doesn't look friendly either

Food on the table in 2-3 minutes. This service is unacceptable. Everything was greasy and oily. 30 minutes to order, eat, and pay. Never again.

Simply a lovely, charming place to eat and drink. A table was free right on time. The fish and chips were moist and still slightly translucent, and reasonably priced. The restaurant was clean with friendly waiters. Even though every table was occupied, it was still possible to have a pleasant conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. I'll gladly eat here again on my next visit to Hamburg. :)

The restaurant itself is nice, and the waiter was very friendly and attentive. The food was okay, although the fried potatoes could have been a bit more browned. The restrooms, however, were awful. They were filthy and reeked of urine. They really need to be checked more often, and no, it wasn't fresh dirt and odor. Unfortunately, the impression you get from the restroom is often a reflection of the kitchen, and I'd rather not think about it any further...

The food was great, but the whole place felt a bit rushed. People waiting for a table stood crammed together around occupied ones. At 6 pm, they announced there was no more dessert, only while supplies lasted. If you want a relaxed meal, this isn't the place; if you want something great to eat quickly, this is the place.

Primarily touristy, decent but definitely better. Prices are okay.

We enjoyed the food and the vibe, but be prepared to pay cash. Their machine didn’t work for any of our credit cards to we had to go to an ATM. The ironic part is that our card worked at the ATM. The waiter told us that they’ve had trouble before.

We were all thrilled. The food and drinks were excellent value for money. The hamburgers, pan-fried fish, fish soup, burgers, schnitzel, and fried fish were all absolutely delicious. We highly recommend it.

As for the restaurant, well. We arrived from 5:45 p.m. and had reserved a table. Aside from the fact that the table was dirty and the food was served so quickly, I have to admit, how did the kitchen manage that? But the highlight was our waiter, "Niguel." The bill arrived. We paid in cash with a tip, and he gave us a lecture about how the tip wasn't enough for him. So, folks, "GASTHAUS HEIMATHAFEN" is a no-go for me. As a Hamburger, I'm ashamed that such a place exists.

The wait staff were very friendly and attentive (thanks Svenja). The food was truly delicious; I've rarely had such good fried potatoes or fish soup (thanks to the kitchen). The atmosphere was very cozy, with warm lighting, subtle light music in the background, clean tables, chilled drinks just the way I like them, no long waits, and, in my opinion, the price/performance ratio was completely OK. All in all, we were absolutely thrilled and will visit you again. Thank you for a lovely lunch.
