The food was good, a knuckle of pork. The prices are in line with those in Cologne's old town. The ambiance is quaint. Unfortunately, 200 ml of the half-liter wheat beer somehow "evaporated."

The simple butter knuckle is excellent; you can skip the other stuff. You can get coarse bratwurst everywhere. But the schnitzel also comes highly recommended! The staff is super attentive, quick, and super friendly for Cologne!

Check your receipt~ After payment, I checked the receipt and found that a 10% service tip was charged without our agreement. 😡😡😡 After confirming that the service tip was paid, I requested a refund. I received a refund for the tip. It would have been better if it hadn't happened in the first place 🤔🤔🤔 The haksen was delicious., It was crispy on the outside and moist and delicious on the inside. The other foods were also good.

Always recommended if you are in Cologne and want a crispy knuckle. Unfortunately this time there were no crispy rind sticks. But we have learned. This doesn't exist when there is a trade fair in Cologne. Haxe was very tasty and the waitresses were always on their toes and very friendly. PS: There is also wheat beer. Because Kölsch isn't for everyone ;-)

Not exactly cheap. Just Cologne. But nice atmosphere and very good quality. Service is very friendly and helpful.

Ribs were a 4/10, overall rather fatty and not particularly inexpensive. But hunger drives it in.

Been there on a festival day. It was fun to be surroınded by joyful people in funny and colorful costumes. We had a goulach, German bread with chese along with dozen of cowboys, a bee, a ladybug, some couples from medieval era and some clowns. Nice day it was.

There are delicious knuckles here. Of course, a Kölsch is also included.

For those looking for typical German comfort food. Well-served dishes and tasty food. Friendly service, they made a point of saying "thank you" in Portuguese at the end. I recommend it!

Absolutely wonderful experience. Me and my boyfriend were drawn to it's tradicional decor and good reviews. We were greeted with immense simpathy right when we entered the restaurant. The staff made us feel at ease and allowed us time to choose while they grabbed us something to drink. We had pork knuckles with sausage, leberkase and potatoes and the food was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. It is difficult to impress the Portuguese when it comes to serving pork (trust me, we eat every single part of the animal). The pork knuckle was to die for. It was succulent and the meat melted like butter in your mouth, the skin was so crunchy and golden that I didn't resist to running the knife over the skin just to hear it sing. The portion was so generous, I thought they would need to roll me out the door like a ball. My boyfriend had a couple of Gaffel Kölsch and loved it. The staff made us feel incredibly welcomed and relaxed, like old customers, it really made our day. All the best to all the team who work tiressly to make such a great restaurant.

Aquí es casi obligatorio pedir el codillo que, todo sea dicho, está espectacular, aunque sea el plato básico. También (sorpresa!) hay una camarera que habla español.

La comida espectacular, estaba todo buenísimo, los platos grandes y no excesivamente caro para lo que te encuentras en Colonia. Además Xenia, no sólo habla español (que se agradece) sino que el trato con ella es maravilloso, majísima y muy simpática muy cercana y atenta.

A fine restaurant...lives up to its name...that was the tastiest grilled knuckle we have ever eaten...the rind was super crispy...the meat was tender as butter...plus the mashed potatoes were mega creamy, the sauerkraut...amazing...a perfect dish with a wonderful young woman who served us lovingly...then I had a reliable conversation with the owner of the place...there really is a lot of love and experience in it... The portions are large, and the pork ribs and German pork knuckles are quite delicious.

The food tasted good, the knuckle was relatively small, the fried potatoes and the schnitzel were a bit small. Prices ok, some things a bit expensive for my taste. Service walks past the table several times, doesn't clear empty plates and doesn't ask if you'd like something else to drink, which was a bit of a shame.

El plato es mejor que lo que tuve en el restaurante Paul encadenado. Solo espero que el camarero hubiera ayudado a mantener el ambiente de comer cuando hay clientes siendo muy ruidosos. Eran lo suficientemente fuertes como para hacernos sentar en la otra esquina de la habitación. Entonces algunos extraños hicieron lo mismo. Leckere Haxen, leider waren die Beilagen wie Gemüse und Summe oft nicht mehr die wärmsten als diese an den Tisch gebracht wurden. Ansonsten lecker, durch die Lage am Rhein und Altstadt nicht günstig jedoch in Ordnung.

The roasted pig's feet are fragrant and delicious, and they are full of flavor without dipping in sauce; the roasted ribs are also delicious. I ordered non-alcoholic beer, which tastes not bitter and delicious.

Incredible. The best haxe I had in my 2 weeks in Germany, I am still thinking about it a month later. I would come back to Köln just to come back here and try the different variations on their menu.

The Haxenhaus in Cologne's old town is an institution and I always enjoy going there. Great service with friendly, courteous service, good cuisine, delicious Gaffel Kölsch and loyal prices. Highly recommended!

Das Haxenhaus ist eine schönes typisch deutsches Restaurant mit bester Lage am Rhein. Für eine Top Bewertung ist doch noch Luft nach oben. Der Service war ganz ok, wobei dieser dann doch stellenweise recht genervt rüber kamen. Die Speisekarte ist nicht überladen, was auch sehr gut ist. Unsere Mahlzeit kam nach der Bestellung recht fix an den Tisch. Geschmacklich war es jedoch nichts besonderes. An meiner Haxe und den Kartoffeln fehlte leider komplett die Würze, was sehr schade war. Ansonsten war die Biersoße sehr schmackhaft und die Haxe knusprig und saftig. Leider finde ich dann auch abschließend den Preis von 30€ für dieses Gericht dann doch recht hoch.

The food was terrible unfortunately . We ordered baked potatoes with spinach, mushroom sauce and salad. Its price is 18 euros. So we assumed it would be really good baked potatoes. However, we got disappointed. You could spend 18 euros much more better in different restaurant.

Probably the smallest and worst knuckle I've ever had. Dry, tasteless and as a side dish four counted potato wedges and salad in an indefinable sauce. We definitely won't be coming back.

Typical brewery where they serve the classic Codillo. Very juicy and a huge portion. Price a little high, but it is expected in Germany... Where they do go overboard is with the drinks (€7.50 for a bottle of water), which is why they don't have 5 stars. The staff very friendly and efficient. Clean, spacious premises with the typical charisma of a German brewery.

Típica cervecería donde sirven el clásico Codillo. Muy jugoso y una ración enorme. Precio un poco elevado, pero es lo esperado en Alemania... Donde sí que se pasan es con la bebida (7,50€ una botella de agua), motivo por el que no tienen 5 estrellas. El personal muy amable y eficiente. Local limpio, amplio y con el típico carisma de una cervecería alemana.

Preface: the food was great. Zero issues but they were out of a few things. No big deal. The big problem was the service. Mohamed was awful, to put it plainly. Sat us right away, but we were ignored almost the entire time we were there. After waiting about 15 minutes for the initial approach, we were finally able to order some water. We had adequate time to view the menu, so we ordered a couple of appetizers. There were also two different menus, which was confusing to say the least, since one of them was obviously out of date but we were left guessing which one. We waited about 20 minutes for the pork belly, which was very good, and seemed reasonable. We also ordered some bread and butter, which for some reason, took over 30 minutes to arrive. We were then just waiting, waiting, waiting for service to actually order dinner. Finally our server arrived, not asking how the food was so far, just seemingly rushing us for our order. We placed our order and then waited over 45 minutes for food to arrive. They weren't very busy, so it seemed off. Doubly strange since people who came in after us got their food very quickly, finished eating, and left before we got ours. Our main course finally arrived. Two different kinds of Haxe, which were both delicious. During the entire waiting period I had made eye contact with the waiter several times with an empty glass of water but he didn't come over or even ask if we needed more to drink. I finally got the opportunity to ask a different server for water, and he brought it nearly instantly after asking. We were finishing up and decided to order a dessert as a takeaway. We did so from another waiter because ours was missing the entire time. We also got a box from him and he came back with it straight away. Finally our waiter came back over to us and asked if we needed anything. I mentioned that we had ordered a cake, which he seemed to know nothing about. He said he would go check on it. Strangely, he was able to bring that back almost instantly. It seems like the dessert was just sitting in the back, waiting to be picked up. Luckily the rest of the food was hot and it didn't really affect the meal. I have 10 years of food and beverage experience. I've worked in kitchens and in the front of the house, and in management. If I had to guess, he just didn't care about us or his job. Honestly, it was some abysmal service. I wouldn't go back even if the food was good. Unfortunate because it really was delicious.

Food was good, priced at the top. The half meter of bratwurst is no longer half a meter after frying... you should consider that beforehand. Without a reservation it will be difficult with several people. Service was quick, except for one lady who everyone asked, what was she there for? Nice outdoor area with a view of the Rhine (and heated in winter). We would come back.

Very nice location to sit. The food is not as refined as we would have liked, it is typical German cuisine. The ribs were very tender in terms of meat but were not really seasoned or marinated.

If you are looking for a local experience and good food, this place is recommended. You are simply seated at long tables, served with typical German portions, with the various Haxen as specialties. A visit to this restaurant is actually part of a visit to Cologne.

Very charming restaurant with amazing food. The menu is focused on German traditional dishes that were amazing. There were salads on the menu if pork or lamb is not your thing. The beer was nice and cold and the waitresses were very friendly and spoke perfect English. The restaurant is laid out as communal tables with cute candle centre pieces. Was a perfect meal after the Christmas Markets.

Very pleasant restaurant, with friendly service. We ordered pork knuckle (Helena and the other with dark beer sauce) and they were delicious. But there was a lot of food and there was no room left for us to try dessert. You can make a reservation on the restaurant's website. The decor is very charming and the location is very good and easy to get to.

Great restaurant with lots of delicious traditional dishes. The knuckle dishes are highly recommended. The atmosphere is unique, right on the Rhine. If you look closely, there are a lot of details to see in the restaurant.

Nice restaurant, nice staff, delicious food and drink. Only... Very crowded...

Were there last Sunday evening. Except for one thing, everything was great and (almost) flawless: beautiful, rustic furnishings, friendly, 90% attentive service, the drinks and food came extremely quickly (as an amateur cook, I was surprised that you can get a knuckle a la carte so quickly and can get it done perfectly to the point), everything clean... Had the onion knuckle and even the small vegetable cubes in the stock still had a light, perfect bite inside. Respect! The rind was crispy, the knuckle inside was juicy and extremely tasty. Unfortunately there are no fries. And even though it's a knucklehouse, two or three more vegetarian dishes on the menu wouldn't hurt in these times. The only thing that really bothered the three of us, which I count as "service", was the toilet attendant, who looked at you angrily, almost aggressively and said nothing more than a blunt "Hello" without twisting the corners of her mouth. On the other hand, the entire table from the sink in the men's toilet was full of water, which I only noticed when it had already seeped through my boxer shorts at the edge of the table, which is why I had dinner with one had to spend time in a wet spot in this region. It makes you wonder what the toilet attendant is there for. In addition, the restaurant was only about 70% full during our stay (terrace completely empty), but my friend still had to wait several minutes until she could use one due to the lack of toilets. She didn't want to find out what this situation would be like when the house was full. We would still like to come back. Everything is great, but free intermediate water from the tap should be possible. The store certainly won't go bankrupt if the guests stay longer and tolerate more. Unfortunately that's annoying. But the best knuckle in Cologne, well done!

If you’re looking for classic German food, and nothing too fancy, this is definitely the place to go. A very authentic German restaurant, with big tables that you share with other patrons. The menu is pretty big, but it is very much for meat eaters. Not that I mind, but just so you’re aware.The food was absolutely delicious, but don’t expect anything to refine over here. But that’s not the point of this place, either. Pretty good value for money as well, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in Cologne.

Bad food, haxe had little taste. My wife had a schnitzel, which only tasted nasr fry and cardboard. So a complete miss. Never for us again. There are so many better restaurants in Cologne.

The atmosphere of the place was really nice. Unfortunately that was about it. Our order took about an hour or more to arrive and the food compared to the quality was not worth it. Service was also not friendly, which concludes to a 2 star experience from my side.

I was recently at Haxenhaus in Cologne – a paradise for lovers of German cuisine! The knuckle there is amazing, really huge and so tender that it melts in your mouth. It is served with crispy potatoes and sauerkraut – just to eat! The atmosphere is extremely authentic: wooden tables, everything rustic, you feel like you're in the past. And the view of the Rhine – an absolute highlight, especially with a cold Kölsch in your hand. The staff is super friendly, explains everything and also gives tips if you are unsure. Sure, you have to wait a bit for the knuckle, but it's totally worth it! Absolute recommendation if you want to eat really well and experience real German flair!

Had a lovely time on the outside seating. The service was friendly and made us feel right at home. The food was amazing and tasted scrumptious. The atmosphere of this restaurant next to the rhein river was immaculate. Beautiful view in a beautiful city.

We made a spontaneous reservation, which was actually possible on a Saturday evening. When we arrived it wasn't very crowded, but it was pretty loud. When it became crowded, you could no longer understand your own words. Not recommended for people who have difficulty hearing or are sensitive to noise. Drinks and food came quickly. At least 2 out of 4 meals were ok. With the knuckle, the mashed potatoes were cold and the sauerkraut was simply tasteless. The dumpling thalers with MUSHROOM cream sauce included exactly 1 piece of mushroom. All in all very dry and not recommended. I would have liked to order more sauce, but unfortunately no one came by and asked if they were satisfied. Even when clearing away the question came up: “Was everything okay?” not. I was very disappointed. I wouldn't go there again. Too bad.

The best experience in a restaurant I have ever had so far. The servers are friendly and helpful, speak literally any language, which is impressive. They recommend me the pork knuckle and it was very crispy and delicious. As I saw, locals love this place as well. So its totally in my “to go” list when im in Cologne again

The 1 star doesn't go for the food (which for sure is bad & overrated) neither for the service itself (we got wrong dishes & they were coming asking us to point them which waiter did the mistake) but for their fraud/stealing with the bill. We had to pay 113€ because the waiter in charge took the decision to give 10€ tips to herself!!! We realised we had to pay too much, so we asked for the receipt (photo) & saw the tips she added. We asked her to come & for more than 10-15mins she was avoiding coming to our table. Her first reply was that if you don't want to give it, I can return them to you!!! We asked her why she did it & how often she does it & from the 4-5 different excuses she gave (you asked 2 times for the bill, I pressed the wrong button by accident etc) it is obvious it is her tactic (thinking also what the 3 people next to us ordered & paid it seems they also gave her a large tip without knowing)!!! So, if you still decide to eat there BE AWARE!

The waiters were super rude, they only let us sit at the bar for drinks even when there were people only having drinks too at the tables. They only let us pay by cash and we were lucky we had the exact amount cause we did not know beforehand

The system with the money makes no sense at all... everyone in the traveling group has different prices (paid for the same dish). 5.80 € was requested on the card, 7 euros had to be paid!!!

Beautiful establishment with a friendly atmosphere. Charming, helpful and smiling waitress. Very hearty meal for the price and really very good, perfectly cooked, I was really surprised. If I were to go to Cologne again, I would definitely go back there.

Great restaurant, we ate very well

After spending the entire day in the ugliest city I've ever seen, I ended up in this school canteen, which was in a very awful school. I ordered pork knuckles with potatoes and sauerkraut. The knuckle was around the size of a chicken leg and had an average taste. The potatoes tasted terrible and were chilly. The sauerkraut was likely a prank. It was an extremely pricey dinner that was not fit for consumption. I recommend avoiding such businesses and picking the donner kebab option, which is four times cheaper and ten times better.
