Review of Havara Restaurant – Visit on August 16, 2025 Our visit to Havara Restaurant with four people left mixed impressions. The set tables were located in an aging front garden with a rather alternative ambiance. Dried plants and the uninviting view of a smokehouse significantly dampened the enjoyment – we would have expected more from a Michelin-starred restaurant. Culinary-wise, the menu was experimental and of convincing quality. Nevertheless, we felt the value for money was unbalanced: The price was simply too high for what was offered. Perhaps this reflects the recently awarded Michelin star – but this should be reflected not only in the price, but also in the overall experience. Another point of criticism was the decor: A multi-course menu with matching wines was served with only one type of glass, and matching cutlery was repeatedly missing. Such details are essential, especially in a Michelin-starred restaurant, and should not be overlooked. Overall, it was a pleasant evening, but with significant room for improvement in terms of ambience and service. Our expectations were not met – we hope that constructive criticism will be accepted and will have a positive impact in the future.

As someone who's constantly on the lookout for unique flavors, I was completely captivated by Hawara in Freiburg's Wiehre district. The Michelin star and Green Star aren't just awards here – you can taste the passion and respect for good ingredients in every course. The seasonal menus are like a journey through the region's gardens and markets: everything is fresh, much of it home-grown, and combined in a way that never ceases to amaze me – sometimes smoked catfish with physalis, sometimes ice cream made from roasted potato skins. Bold, creative, but never pretentious. The ambiance? Exactly my style – warm, charming, with handmade ceramics and a terrace where you'd love to let the evening fade away indefinitely. The service is attentive, warm, and genuine. For me, Hawara is a place where you don't just eat, but experience stories. I'll be back – and more than once.

Absolutely brilliant. The team at Hawara Restaurant has managed to create a three-hour culinary experience that is second to none. The food served has ingenious flavor nuances that are rare even at very good restaurants. Particularly noteworthy, as extremely unusual yet phenomenal in taste, is the non-alcoholic food accompaniment. In our opinion, this restaurant deserves more than one star.

It was a very pleasant evening at Hawara, and I highly recommend visiting this restaurant in Freiburg's Wiehre district, which may seem unassuming from the outside. Admittedly, I have few references, as it was my first time dining in a fine-dining establishment, but that's precisely what made this evening so exciting. The staff were relaxed and unpretentious, yet they still seemed very professional and competent. As someone from the region, it was interesting for me to hear where the ingredients come from and to learn about the ideas behind the various creations. Since my companion chose the vegetarian menu and I the omnivorous one, I was able to try both. Although the fish and meat were truly excellent, choosing the meatless menu wouldn't have diminished my enthusiasm for the respective courses. There's an optional wine pairing, which perfectly complements the food and perfectly rounded off this lovely evening. The prices aren't cheap, but given the quality and refinement of the preparation, they're definitely justified. Finally, I can only thank everyone involved for this fantastic experience and wish them continued success!

Fine herbal cuisine with all the delicacies the region currently offers. Finely balanced with fish, meat, and vegetables, not over-seasoned with salt, so the individual components are clearly palatable. Friendly service with excellent beverage and especially wine advice. Menus also include a variety of juice pairings. A delight all around.

truly fine dining - very new but still harmonious taste variations

We attended Hawara's garden dinner in St. Georgen, so I can't comment on the restaurant's interior – but the ambiance was magnificent, the 8-course menu was a journey through the summer garden (carrot gazpacho, smoked trout, heart-shaped tomatoes, bratwurst, quail, sorrel yogurt, and stick bread), a culinary dream, and the evening garden simply enchanted us. I hope there will be a repeat! *THANK YOU*

The guys are fantastic and do a fantastic job. The concept is exactly our style. You can really tell that everyone enjoys what they do. If the guests also enjoy and take pleasure in all the aromas and flavors served, everyone is happy. Using only regional products, homemade oils, vinegar, and essences, you conjure up wonderful surprises that made our eyes light up and delighted our palates. We enjoyed the evening; all the dishes were divine, the wine pairings were so perfect – thanks to the sommelier. We really enjoyed spending the evening with you and will definitely be back. Our second visit was simply fantastic!!!!! You're magic!! The sommelier also enjoyed our wine pairing, and it was so perfect again. The vermouth for dessert was a hit. It was a fantastic location. Now you know where the delicious food comes from. We met the in-house gardener, and it was simply a wonderful evening. Another amazing menu. A successful garden dinner with excellent food

We spent a wonderful evening with excellent food and drinks, served and explained to us with great warmth and passion. All in a very relaxed atmosphere. Thank you very much for that.

Wednesday bistro, we had a reservation. All the tables were outside, and it got freezing cold in the evening. The service was a bit overwhelmed, orders were forgotten, and we sometimes had to wait a long time in the cold. The people are super friendly. Nice ambiance and delicious light food. So, it wasn't much of a treat for the money (around €145 for two people).

Excellent evening all round from the creativity of each dish (local with a bit of a twist) to the service and knowledge of the staff.. It is a very good quality modern 1 star worth a detour to come here to try. Having looked at other reviewers and photos, I am very pleased to say they change their dishes quick regularly and i will come back. Dishes are wonderful and yet not heavy (i.e. they are not drenched in sauces or butter).

A restaurant that deserves its star for its culinary excellence, yet remains firmly grounded. The chefs sometimes carry the food to the tables themselves, explaining everything; it's reminiscent of a garden pub, but with a more sophisticated twist. The food was excellent, with small courses, but enough to fill you up at the end. Small snacks before and after the meal, all lovingly prepared and presented with great ingredients. No froth and very little tweezing – simply very good food served by very nice people in a very pretty courtyard. The non-alcoholic drinks were interesting, but not everything really complemented the courses, and at some point, it was fine with fermented honey and currant kombucha. But it was creative. We'll definitely be back. Great place, well-deserved a star.

All the dishes were absolutely delicious and expertly prepared, and they were also very sustainable and regional: Black Forest beef, Rhine catfish, and exclusively German wines. Add to that the absolutely warm service – the team absolutely deserves it!

A firework of the senses: For anyone who enjoys good food – it was an all-around fantastic experience. The two of us were here on a Thursday evening. There were only two tables occupied. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was very pleasant and pleasant. Very friendly staff with lots of information about the food and plenty of time to ask questions. The food is presented on dishes, some of which are hand-made. You should allow about three hours for the menu. We included the wine pairing, but halved it, which was perfectly adequate for us. There is a vegetarian and an omnivorous menu. You can also choose a non-alcoholic beverage pairing. We'll be back!

The four of us recently had the pleasure of dining at Hawara in Freiburg and I have to say it was another unforgettable experience. The precision of the kitchen was impressive, every dish was perfectly prepared and presented on the plate like a work of art. The service was also outstanding. The hosts were friendly, competent and attentive without being intrusive. They were extremely knowledgeable about the food and drinks and were able to give us excellent advice. The wine accompaniment was perfectly matched to the menu and scored points for both the vegetarian and the fish and meat menu. I would particularly like to highlight the beer with Pinot Noir grapes, which was exceptional and extremely well matched to the corresponding dishes with whey pork and oyster mushrooms. The buckerl served with a Bibliskäs interpretation was the real star. The combinations were just perfect. The non-alcoholic menu accompaniment was also excellent and went perfectly with the dishes. It was obvious that the sommelier and the hosts at the table did their work with passion and expertise. The food and drinks were presented very well, transparently and professionally, which rounded off the experience even further. Overall, our visit to Hawara was once again an unforgettable experience. The combination of excellent cuisine, excellent service and perfect wine and beverage accompaniment made it an evening that we as a group will remember for a long time. I've been following Hawara for a while now and absolutely don't want to miss it in Freiburg! The food is very tasty, regional, absolutely fresh and with the bistro evening on Wednesday and the menu evenings there is something for everyone. Hawara has its own style and I've had some great evenings there, thank you :) What I like best is the combination of fine dining and a relaxed atmosphere - perfect for a special evening. I'm really looking forward to patio season!

My absolute favorite restaurant in Freiburg! I've been there several times since the Wiehre opened, and every time it's been an absolute highlight. The service is super friendly and extremely attentive. And the kitchen? Not only does she conjure up creative dishes, but she does the whole thing with so much passion that you can't get enough. Most of the products come from the region and you learn something new every time you visit. I'm already looking forward to the next time 😀

I have long known the Hawara as a fine dining restaurant under the name Klösterle. The current operators, Yannik Spielmann and Nico Heuer, have tastefully renovated/modernized the restaurant rooms and adapted them to contemporary tastes. It was pleasant that undisturbed conversation was still possible despite the full occupation. The sequence of the different courses was like a potpourri of aromas during the 4 hours in the Hawara. To be highlighted are the fish dishes (my preference) catfish and trout, each combined with exotic side dishes, but also the very aromatic preparation of the oyster mushroom and the panna cotta with sorrel for dessert.
