I went there because I heard it was a good Rotbier restaurant, and it was delicious. I liked the rotor bock the richest and most delicious!

The Worst Restaurant in Germany!!!! Especially for Asians – DO NOT GO!! A cowardly place that deletes comments.!! I am an Asian currently living in Europe for five months. During these five months, I have never felt discriminated against and have instead enjoyed the laid-back European lifestyle and the kindness Europeans show, especially towards children. I have felt the care and consideration of Europeans throughout my stay. Before traveling to Germany, I read reviews about this place, known for its beer. If you’ve read the reviews carefully, you’ll notice that there are occasional mentions of discrimination. Even after reading those reviews, I thought, “Surely, people might just be misunderstanding,” and decided to visit. Since we didn’t make a reservation, we were directed to a side building instead of the main restaurant. A female staff member there asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, she told us we couldn’t enter and would have to wait for an hour. However, we had seen Western customers drinking beer outdoors, so we brought this up. The staff member then changed her response, saying that it was possible to drink beer outdoors but not to have food. We agreed to just have beer outdoors. (At the time, there were several empty tables inside.) We assumed these empty tables were “reserved,” but then we saw Western customers being seated. From their hesitant behavior, we got the feeling they didn’t have reservations either. (Of course, this is just my personal impression.) However, what upset us was that empty tables were quickly given to Western customers, and the way they were treated was noticeably different from how we were treated. At the time, I tried to think, “Maybe they did have reservations.” Our children were hungry, so we asked another male staff member if there were any available tables. He told us to wait a little. As we waited outside, drinking beer, the male staff member never came back. Instead, the female staff member kept seating new customers. She even brought us the bill before we asked for it. That was the moment I became certain: We were being discriminated against. Shortly after, a group of Korean customers arrived, and I asked them, “Did you make a reservation?” They said no. Yet, they were seated immediately. (Even so, the treatment they received from the male and female staff was different from how they treated Western customers.) I am convinced that either there are discriminatory staff in this establishment, or there are employees who choose who to serve. I don’t think this is just a problem with the staff. Looking at the reviews, there are mentions of discrimination, and the owner doesn’t seem to care about addressing this. This makes me believe that the owner shares the same mindset. When my children read about Germany’s history in their world history books and commented, “Germany seems like a bad place,” I proudly told them, “It’s a country that reflects on its past and has become admirable.” Today, I feel ashamed of what I said. For the first time during their time in Europe, my children experienced discrimination and concluded, “Germany is a bad place.” Let me be clear: Germany is not the problem. The issue lies with the unacceptable behavior of the staff. However, from the perspective of tourists, the staff’s behavior becomes a reflection of the country itself. As for the beer, honestly, I thought the beer in the Czech Republic tasted better. But one good thing is that this place offers a variety of beer flavors to try.

What a great experience! We started off with an aperitif at the bar and ended up having the whole dinner there! Great atmosphere, wonderful food and good service - the girls working there were a bit rushed cause it was so busy, but managed it really well and always smiling! Loved the red beer, sausages cooked in beer and their Beeramisù is simply to die for (said by an Italian!) The only regret is having discovered this place on our last day and not being able to speak German to enjoy the buzz of the place more!!!! This is simply a must when you are in Nuremberg! Small place so ensure you book a table for drinks or dining!!!!!

Six people went without a reservation and we were able to eat without any problem. The service was very good, like their food, we ordered the pork which was very tender with a sauce and the sausages with very typical potatoes.

The place in general was nice The schnitzel was ok although it seemed a little pre-made food but it was an ok portion -we got potato salad with it that was nice for me but too sour for my friends The goulash was not a soup but some cooked meat in a plate with some bread next to it-We were a little bit disappointed about that The beers were really nice

It was a very interesting and pleasant experience for the whole family: from 2 year olds to 63 year olds. Our guide Marijeto was very friendly and attentive and spoke with in-depth knowledge about the origins and development of the beer cellar. I can recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

Positive: delicious beer, nice idea with the beer tasting Negative: the food. Soup tasted like bouillon cubes, our neighbor's food was cold, ours was ok. The dumplings were oversalted and the sauce for the Schäufele was swimming in fat. The Schäufele itself was well done. The red cabbage and cabbage were far dry. Conclusion: go somewhere else for food, if you want to drink something, this is the place for you.

First of all: The beer is great 👍🏻🍺 It could be that I caught the chef on a bad day, but unfortunately, despite great anticipation, the food was absolutely not for me: the potato soup was nice and hot, but oversalted and with a pungent broth taste. The Schäufele was also hot and fresh, but the sauce was very cumin-heavy and the dumplings were totally oversalted. 2 stars from me and a recommendation just for the beer.

Very angry service, i can not recommend

Absolutely worth a visit. For me, the Altstadthof brewery is definitely a recommendation for Nuremberg. We spontaneously got a table and were served very nicely and courteously. The food is traditional and rustic, just as you would imagine. I personally recommend the snack platter with a Bacchus or the tasting palette with four different types of beer. If you like a house beer, the red beer is an absolute classic in Nuremberg, you can also take it home in a 1L swing-top bottle. The perfect companion. Thank you for the brilliant evening and the great hospitality. Whenever I'm in Nuremberg again, I'd love to come back here to eat and drink.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try the food. I made a reservation for December 24th (2 people) and was there, but none of the waitresses noticed me. At some point we were told that there was a small table available in the corner. Unfortunately, it was really small. Hardly any space to eat and one stool was taken over by a lady at the bar. There was no sign indicating that the table was reserved. Then we left because, in my opinion, you could expect a little better service. But I emphasize here that this is my own opinion and experience.

Great little pub with original local red beer. Can get very busy and a bit warm inside. Worth a visit if can grab a seat.

Very good large schnitzel with potato salad. Actually I only like potato salad with meat salad (Saxon style) but this one was also very good. Can only recommend the restaurant, the homemade red beer is also highly recommended.

The staff was blunt, but it's okay because it's harder to find friendly restaurants in Europe than you think. The rotbier was really delicious and the food was good too. However, I didn't feel good about the old, old racists who joined us at the same table late. It was clear that they were making fun of the three of them as they kept giggling and looking at each other while speaking in German and giggling while saying "I don't understand" in English. lol Is it funny that I use English because I don't know German? We just ate our food in silence, but was it funny because we were simply ‘asian’? lol There is nothing wrong with the restaurant, but the blunt staff served these people with a smile! It was an episode that made me realize the average German people :)

Good traditional food with good service and good beers

Im Vorweihnachtstrubel schnell ne Kleinigkeit Richtung Tiergärtnertorplatz im frühen Dunkel essen...schwierig dachten wir uns angesichts allgemeiner Erfahrung und fragten mal kurz an. Wurde aber trotz voller Tische perfekt "gemanagt". An der Bar platziert,genossen wir zu Szenegetränken wie Aperol natürlich auch das schmackhafte Rotbier. Dies gab es als Rotbiersauce zum knusprigen Schäufele und natürlich nochmals in der gläsernen Variante zum mit Malzschrot "eingeriebenem" Schnitzel. Als Abschluss noch mit den Thekennachbarn einen Bierbrand. Fazit: Schneller Service,gutes Essen und toller Digestif. Top👍🏼

Great traditional brewpub to sample local beers & whiskey! Didn’t try the food this time. They seem to be famous for their large selection of whisky and other spirits. Lots of awards on the walls. Ask for seasonal beers! Their red bock is incredible 🍻 Will be back when I’m in Nuremberg again.

Very small and cozy restaurant; However, at 12:30 (90 minutes after opening) it was still drafty and cold. Very attentive service!

Excellent place for team events! We started with the escape room located in the cellar. It’s quite spacious that 8 of us can all move freely inside and the temperature is also comfortable. The content is pretty interesting, we chose the one related to historical story and everyone was enjoyed. After passing the game, we got Nürnberg original red beer as reward. There was a staff staying with us, who gave us a detail review in the end, and of course if you need help you can raise your hand at any time. After that we went to the bar for the dinner. Food and beer were very good, and we also tasted special season drink called “winter Wärmer”. Waitress were super friendly and nice. We had a wonderful time there.

The red beer doesn't taste as good as in many other Nuremberg restaurants or bars. The service is bad. You wait forever to be able to order and pay. The waitress clearly shows you that you don't like to be seen as a guest. There is no greeting or "goodbye." Overall, we didn't have a positive experience there. Too bad.

The red beer is original, the aftertaste is berry sour.

Servers were ignorant and arrogant. One table was trying to pay and we were about to sit there. They kept ignoring her for 5 minutes, while the lady was waving the money in her hand, trying to pay and leave. I did not want stay in that place any longer. We ended up leaving. Next pub we entered had extremely kind staff. I am not recommending it at all. Overrated place!

Nice little brewery, centrally located in the old town below the castle. The beers taste very good, the selection of drinks is good, the price-performance ratio is okay. The cheese spaetzle was ok, but I've had better ones. Still worth a visit. Cheers!

A dream. Wonderful home-brewed beer. Tried all types except the red wheat beer, all balanced for the respective brewing style and very tasty. Cellar beer with a delicious hop aroma, red beer is simply rustic, the black beer is not too “burnt” like e.g. Guinness. The red bock, malty, tasty and not too heavy. Sauerkraut as a side dish and the side salad weren't great, the rest, Schäufele and schnitzel, were pretty good.

Bellissima birreria sita nel pieno centro storico di Nürnberg. Le birre da loro prodotte sono eccezionali; menzione d'onore per la mitica Rotbier. Gioia accompagnata dalle tipiche e buonissime bratwursts e crauti. Servizio perfetto; presenti camerieri che masticano l'italiano! Inoltre, nelle belle serate estive, il locale dispone di una splendida corte sul retro, al riparo dal tran-tran turistico e cittadino. In sintesi, bellissima esperienza.

A great home brewery with delicious beers and fine whiskeys. It is only brewed with natural hops, i.e. umbels. Part of the old rock passageways is used as an alcohol storage facility for whiskey production. Highly recommended

Beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff and great food!

We visited the bar on a Saturday around 2pm and it was quite busy, but the waitress assigned us a window seat and we shared the table with other customers. We were lucky! The atmosphere was cosy and we chatted a little with the people sitting next to us. We ordered the typical red beer, the onion beer soup, oven-fresh pork shoulder in red beer sauce and the brewer's goulash with bread dumplings. The dumplings were delicious and the waitress recommended them. Although the staff don't speak much English, there was an English menu and we spoke some German. Overall it was a great experience!

Embarrassing experience with our guests who we wanted to show Nuremberg culinary to. Simple snacks took 1 hour to prepare, the beers were far too warm, stood in queues and perhaps that's why they were completely out of balance. The food nothing special. 2 points because at least the operation was evident.

Great food, really great home-brewed beer. It's a shame that it's only available locally! Prices are OK in my opinion. The service wasn't always up to par when it was really busy, but it was always friendly and in a good mood.

The food is nothing special and rather nothing special. Only 3 points because it is more tailored to tourists The beer is all the better for that. The original red beer is very drinkable and worth a stop. The other types of beer are also good to drink. The atmosphere is very cozy - whether in the beer garden or inside. The first thing I’d like to point out is that this is A BAR. The restaurant is located in the inner yard. You need to go through the arch. As being a bar I liked the place. Not much space, but for having a drink - quite ok with me. The cozy warm lighting, wooden tables and chairs… that’s the way I imagined a local bar. You can order food here (the same menu as for the restaurant), but we went to the restaurant to eat once we knew that it exists. The food is tasty, portions are big enough to feel full and happy. I liked the lighter red beer but of course it depends on your taste and preferences. I’m not a whiskey fan, but it was good. Oh yeah, and it is not the only place, but sometimes waitresses do not speak English. You can pay by card :)

Unfortunately our expectations were not met. We are locals who wanted to go out for a good meal in Nuremberg, but the Altstadthof is no longer an option, actually it's nicely decorated here, but: 1. It was drafty and therefore not very comfortable, 2. In addition, the children were warned immediately after entering the restaurant that they had to be careful when walking so that they did not bump into the waitress. I think that's more a matter for the waitress, not the children. 3. The Schäufele is rather expensive at 21.50, but it was no longer really hot, the red cabbage was cool, and the meat would have needed another hour in the oven (a bit tough), the sauce was heavily set and not very tasty The roast base lacks power (bag?) In short, there are better Schäufele in Franconia - and it is a prestige meal, we were disappointed, 4. The beer is ok, but just 0.4l

Selbstgebrautes Bier. Wir hatten die Bierprobe "Schwarz Rot Gold" bestellt. Sehr lecker. Das Helle mit einem an Toffee erinnernden Geschmack. Das Rotbier süffig, und das Schwarzbier ungewöhnlich dicht. Kein Vergleich zu den üblichen Standardbieren. Unbedingt probieren. Dazu hatten wir als Kleinigkeit zum Essen das Probierbrettl, auch ganz lecker. Schöne Erfahrung.

Nice rustic restaurant, good red beer

Were here to drink Rotbier and the Rote Weisse (white beer). Is very tasty. The guest room is relatively small but rustic.

Had the driest bread in all of Franconia with my sausages. But was given a sachet of mustard to make up for it…server was very nice and the sausages were tasty but massively overpriced and the accompaniments were terrible. This place is a tourist trap and makes little effort

Service was fine. Food was laughable and frankly worse than I would have received at a fast food restaurant in the depths of Canada. Cannot believe I paid what I did here for the equivalent of a few terrible breakfast dishes and a lukewarm soup. Tourist trap would be a kind description of this place.

The soup, goulash, and cucumber salad were excellent.

We were given a tour of the cellar vaults and a brief tour of the whiskey barrels and brewing equipment. What was missing was the reason for visiting the brewery, a tasting to come home with gifts.

A good place to taste beer and German whiskey. Not really a food destination

We came for the beer and it was worth it. We were there twice in total. We all thought the beers were very good. There is the option to order 0.2l. This is useful if you want to try different beers. The service was very good and very nice and friendly. Even when it gets crowded, everything is well under control here. Since the restaurant is right on the way to the castle, the places outside the door are particularly well attended when the weather is nice. Especially when you see the tasting glasses on the tables as you walk past, it invites you to stop. During our meal we were very satisfied with the Nuremberg bratwursts and the cheese spaetzle. Only the fried potatoes still have room for improvement. When served we were informed that they were not seasoned. We were given pepper and salt. No other ingredients seemed to have been used other than potatoes and oil. We found that rather unusual. In terms of taste, I find potatoes fried and seasoned with a little onions and bacon much better. My dessert recommendation: Red Bockbier. Why eat dessert when you can drink it.

My rating refers solely to the food. We ordered ratatouille and spaetzle with sauce. My ratatouille had a consistency, taste and appearance, as if it were leftover food for the pigs. Soggy vegetables in the "tomato water", tasteless and terrible. The spaetzle tasted like it came from a ready-made package in a thick, salty sauce, terrible. Well, I ask myself: are there responsible authorities that check the food and its quality??? I find it outrageous to offer something like this in a tourist city where thousands of people visit us and want to leave their money with us. Very unfortunate, very irresponsible and disrespectful.

We ended the evening here with beer and wine. Cozy atmosphere, but above all the great lady from the service made the evening complete.

I enjoyed it. However, the female server who works on weekday afternoons (after 4 p.m.) was waiting for us (2 people) to leave after we had finished eating. They asked us to pay with a 15% tip that was not agreed upon in advance. When I checked the amount because it was different, I proudly showed the receipt with the tip. You decide the amount, and I wonder what this is. I received 40 minutes of service from the employee, I would have happily decided on a tip if I had asked in advance, but it's really disappointing. An interim settlement was made to a former employee, Two people spent 48 euros.

So the red beer is really really good a 5 out of 5 The Baumeister steak with fried potatoes was unfortunately a disappointment. The fried potatoes were soggy, completely soggy and not at all crispy or golden brown as you would expect. In addition, they were floating in oil and were almost unseasoned, which greatly affected the taste. The steak was cooked to death and looked like it had come from a discount store - although you could probably have gotten a better piece of meat there. Overall, an unenjoyable dining experience that wasn't worth the price.

A great location. Various beers on tap. All home-brewed. Except non-alcoholic beers. The red beer is the tastiest for me. The beer brandies and whiskeys are absolutely the tastiest in Nuremberg and beyond. They can compete with anyone in the world. Especially the whiskeys. I ate Obazda today. Quite terrific. When I'm in Nuremberg, I have to go there.

Delicious local beer. There's not a lot of choice in food, but everything is very tasty.

We were there a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the recommendations of the freetour guide. They have many types of craft beers and the price-quality ratio is good. We ordered a tasting of three jugs with three types of craft beers, which are brewed in a war bunker located in a nearby square. You can make a visit but we didn't have time. Next door is the store where you can take souvenir beers. The attention was very good.
