The service was outstanding, attentive, fast, and friendly. I highly recommend it, a great, rustic restaurant both inside and out—you have to go here!

During a training session in Erlangen, we visited this brewery in Nuremberg. We enjoyed a beer there and picked up some beers from the shop to take home.

As always, when I'm in town, I come here (I live 250 km away), and it was great again. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. We came in really hungry, waited 90 minutes, only to be told that the food we ordered wasn’t available. Meanwhile, we watched the exact same dishes being served to guests who arrived after us. And the manager’s idea of an apology? A shot of schnaps. I wish I were joking. This kind of treatment is beyond disappointing.

The food (goulash with dumplings) was unfortunately very tasteless. The meat was tender, but the sauce was very watery, and the dumplings were also very bland, and the portion was far too small for over €18. We also had three Nuremberg sausages with sauerkraut, which were rather average, but for just under €8... The beer was only slightly chilled and had been poured well below the ice mark. Restrooms on the second floor, if you sit outside at the end, are almost an imposition. On top of that, the soap in the restroom was empty, even though we were there right after opening in the afternoon. We won't be coming back.

Nice but expensive for the rather small portions

We stopped for a pint of beer. Excellent choice. Don't miss it if you're in the area. Two steps down from the super crowded square, where you enter the castle, you'll find this brewery. I ordered a second pint. The lady serving is a bit too serious, she could smile at the customers and I don't think it would be too difficult.

Spectacular service, delicious food and the beers were the best we tried!

Good beer. Service goes like this: waitress is nice. But I'm rating 3 because I met the grumpy lady serving beer in the bar who said: "go to the table, you standing here just make me nervous". So, avoid her if you can and have a great time.

Great little restaurant! The food was delicious, with only a minor criticism from my partner, who said his food was a bit too oily. The friendly staff took this criticism professionally and, contrary to expectations, compensated my partner. Wow, we weren't expecting this, and it definitely gets a full 5 stars! The restaurant has a few seats outside, but very few inside. Be sure to make a reservation a few days in advance.

The service is a complete disaster. We arrived because we knew the whisky, and at 8:30 p.m. we sat at a table outside. We waited 21 minutes for the waitress to stop ignoring us. We then ordered and received two beers and two whiskeys. Five minutes later, we were asked to order the last round... without further explanation. They closed at 10 p.m., and we had to find somewhere else to enjoy the summer evening. When paying, we asked if we could reserve a table for the next evening at 6 p.m. Everything was recorded electronically. The table would be reserved from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The next day, we arrived at 5:50 p.m., and the table was occupied. We were asked to sit in the waiting area. We were still sitting there at 6:53 p.m., and drinks continued to be delivered to our reserved table. We paid and will buy our whisky elsewhere in the future and will definitely avoid this place. Anyone expecting service will unfortunately be disappointed.

A quaint pub, delicious beer, and very, very friendly staff. I just didn't think the Schäuferla was 100% perfect. It was a bit dry, and the sauce was almost bland. I would have expected a bit more for the price.

The beer was very good, the food was okay (too little bread, side dishes too expensive, and the Nürnbergerle were just Nürnbergerle, after all). It was absolutely outrageous that we were kicked out after an hour and 15 minutes because a group of 10 people showed up without a reservation (we had). Would I come here again? No! 👎

First of all, beer and service 5 stars, food more like 3, one slice of bread is too little, reservation online works - but unfortunately our time slot is canceled 1 hour and 20 minutes later because a larger group wants the table, and even a woman in a wheelchair is asked to go to the bar, or rather, she goes

We had a tour of the cellars beneath Nuremberg. Very interesting and entertaining. Paula was a good guide.

The food comes quickly, the beer is the best in Nuremberg, and you can easily get a seat at the bar.

We visited the Altstadthof Brewery in Nuremberg on a Saturday evening with a group of 10 people. Unfortunately, we didn't quite make it on time and arrived about 30 minutes late. We would have liked to have called, but unfortunately, the only option available was the office, which was already unoccupied at that time. A direct line to the dining room or service staff would have been really helpful in such a case – perhaps this can be improved in the future. Despite the delay, we received a friendly welcome and were able to enjoy our evening to the fullest. The menu offers a great selection of Franconian specialties, prepared with love. The food was consistently delicious, fresh, and of high quality. We were particularly impressed by the home-brewed beer – truly drinkable and flavorful, just as you would expect from a local brewery. The ambiance is quaint, cozy, and fitting for its Old Town location – a truly feel-good place with character. Whether for tourists or locals, the Altstadthof Brewery is definitely worth a visit. All in all, a very successful evening – we would love to come back!

Wheat beer is a "must taste" , Red beer is strongly suggested but it is a little bit low in alcohol. I still prefer roteweisse

Cozy restaurant with friendly service. The shoulder of pork is perfect, very tender and crispy. The house-brewed beers are delicious. The Maibock is a dream beer. With the many hop varieties, it leans towards an IPA. I'm thrilled!

Pasamos por la cervecería Altstadthof para un vuelo de cervezas, decidimos tener el vuelo de la bandera alemana consistente en una Dunkel (Negra) , Rotbier (Roja) & Helles (Oro) , todas estaban realmente buenas así que merece la pena probar.

A great location. Various beers on tap. All brewed in-house. Except for non-alcoholic beers. The red beer is the tastiest, in my opinion. The beer brandies and whiskeys are absolutely the tastiest in Nuremberg and beyond. They can compete with anything in the world. Especially the whiskeys. I had Obazda (traditional German sausage) today. Absolutely excellent. If I'm in Nuremberg, I have to go there.

We walked for about 30 mins as we had read so much about this place...But were dissapointed on reaching there as were treated badly. We asked the waitress for a table for 7 and although there was space available, she said all are reserved...we told her we will wait, but she said she cannot guarantee when they will get vacant. Finally, we said we would like to reseve and will come after 1 hour...and she was rude & said " we cannot reserve". This was surprising for us and we realised that they were just not interested! Sad!

Reservation is an advantage! The service staff was very friendly, but unfortunately it was a bit confusing. If you want to reorder or pay for something, it takes a little longer for you to be noticed! The food was damn tasty and sufficient (we had brewed ulash and the schnitzel with a malt crust) and was simply worth five stars! Lots of different types of beer, something for every taste! Good food and drink, very friendly staff

I ordered a sampler, Schaffele, and goulash. The sampler is good because you can try a variety of beers. Schauffele is said to be made from the shoulder, and it is delicious with a different taste from Haksen. The staff was friendly and everything was nice, but the smell of cigarettes being smoked outside came inside and it was a bit uncomfortable.

Great home-brewed beer, not off-the-shelf beer, you can just taste it. Good food and great service. We always enjoy coming back.

There was no one there when I went there around 11 a.m., but since I was having a beer, it quickly filled up. I went with my kids and ordered sausage and fries. It was okay I think there were 5 types of beer, so I ordered one and drank it. Each taste was different, but it was delicious haha.

Schäuferla is warmed up. It basically goes from the fridge into the microwave. Was partly cold. Make it fresh, why do you serve warmed up food? A little more class than quantity would be good here. Beer is fine. You should serve Seidla (0.5L). You don't actually make 0.4L in Franconia. Service was very friendly.

This is a truly special place. You can try the local beers they produce, join the tour where they explain the production process, and buy their products from their stores. The food is also very nice. I recommend the sausage they cook in beer sauce.

Nice restaurant, good food, super nice staff. However, the service at the table is more than unsatisfactory. However, the service doesn't manage to get past the table. In 2.5 hours we only managed to come by three times and take drink orders. Unfortunately, another location that didn't understand how to generate sales. Nice place to taste well-kept red beer. It's best to order the "3x Red" package. This is a red beer, a red wheat beer and a red bock. Each served in a 0.2 glass, you can easily find your favorite. Quaint restaurant, with grilled sausages for dinner.

It has a tasting of 3 types of beer that they make that are delicious. But also, it has a kitchen and the food is spectacular. The Bieramisu dessert is a real spectacle.

I went there because I heard it was a good Rotbier restaurant, and it was delicious. I liked the rotor bock the richest and most delicious!

The Worst Restaurant in Germany!!!! Especially for Asians – DO NOT GO!! A cowardly place that deletes comments.!! I am an Asian currently living in Europe for five months. During these five months, I have never felt discriminated against and have instead enjoyed the laid-back European lifestyle and the kindness Europeans show, especially towards children. I have felt the care and consideration of Europeans throughout my stay. Before traveling to Germany, I read reviews about this place, known for its beer. If you’ve read the reviews carefully, you’ll notice that there are occasional mentions of discrimination. Even after reading those reviews, I thought, “Surely, people might just be misunderstanding,” and decided to visit. Since we didn’t make a reservation, we were directed to a side building instead of the main restaurant. A female staff member there asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, she told us we couldn’t enter and would have to wait for an hour. However, we had seen Western customers drinking beer outdoors, so we brought this up. The staff member then changed her response, saying that it was possible to drink beer outdoors but not to have food. We agreed to just have beer outdoors. (At the time, there were several empty tables inside.) We assumed these empty tables were “reserved,” but then we saw Western customers being seated. From their hesitant behavior, we got the feeling they didn’t have reservations either. (Of course, this is just my personal impression.) However, what upset us was that empty tables were quickly given to Western customers, and the way they were treated was noticeably different from how we were treated. At the time, I tried to think, “Maybe they did have reservations.” Our children were hungry, so we asked another male staff member if there were any available tables. He told us to wait a little. As we waited outside, drinking beer, the male staff member never came back. Instead, the female staff member kept seating new customers. She even brought us the bill before we asked for it. That was the moment I became certain: We were being discriminated against. Shortly after, a group of Korean customers arrived, and I asked them, “Did you make a reservation?” They said no. Yet, they were seated immediately. (Even so, the treatment they received from the male and female staff was different from how they treated Western customers.) I am convinced that either there are discriminatory staff in this establishment, or there are employees who choose who to serve. I don’t think this is just a problem with the staff. Looking at the reviews, there are mentions of discrimination, and the owner doesn’t seem to care about addressing this. This makes me believe that the owner shares the same mindset. When my children read about Germany’s history in their world history books and commented, “Germany seems like a bad place,” I proudly told them, “It’s a country that reflects on its past and has become admirable.” Today, I feel ashamed of what I said. For the first time during their time in Europe, my children experienced discrimination and concluded, “Germany is a bad place.” Let me be clear: Germany is not the problem. The issue lies with the unacceptable behavior of the staff. However, from the perspective of tourists, the staff’s behavior becomes a reflection of the country itself. As for the beer, honestly, I thought the beer in the Czech Republic tasted better. But one good thing is that this place offers a variety of beer flavors to try.

What a great experience! We started off with an aperitif at the bar and ended up having the whole dinner there! Great atmosphere, wonderful food and good service - the girls working there were a bit rushed cause it was so busy, but managed it really well and always smiling! Loved the red beer, sausages cooked in beer and their Beeramisù is simply to die for (said by an Italian!) The only regret is having discovered this place on our last day and not being able to speak German to enjoy the buzz of the place more!!!! This is simply a must when you are in Nuremberg! Small place so ensure you book a table for drinks or dining!!!!!

Six people went without a reservation and we were able to eat without any problem. The service was very good, like their food, we ordered the pork which was very tender with a sauce and the sausages with very typical potatoes.

The place in general was nice The schnitzel was ok although it seemed a little pre-made food but it was an ok portion -we got potato salad with it that was nice for me but too sour for my friends The goulash was not a soup but some cooked meat in a plate with some bread next to it-We were a little bit disappointed about that The beers were really nice

It was a very interesting and pleasant experience for the whole family: from 2 year olds to 63 year olds. Our guide Marijeto was very friendly and attentive and spoke with in-depth knowledge about the origins and development of the beer cellar. I can recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

Positive: delicious beer, nice idea with the beer tasting Negative: the food. Soup tasted like bouillon cubes, our neighbor's food was cold, ours was ok. The dumplings were oversalted and the sauce for the Schäufele was swimming in fat. The Schäufele itself was well done. The red cabbage and cabbage were far dry. Conclusion: go somewhere else for food, if you want to drink something, this is the place for you.

First of all: The beer is great 👍🏻🍺 It could be that I caught the chef on a bad day, but unfortunately, despite great anticipation, the food was absolutely not for me: the potato soup was nice and hot, but oversalted and with a pungent broth taste. The Schäufele was also hot and fresh, but the sauce was very cumin-heavy and the dumplings were totally oversalted. 2 stars from me and a recommendation just for the beer.

Absolutely worth a visit. For me, the Altstadthof brewery is definitely a recommendation for Nuremberg. We spontaneously got a table and were served very nicely and courteously. The food is traditional and rustic, just as you would imagine. I personally recommend the snack platter with a Bacchus or the tasting palette with four different types of beer. If you like a house beer, the red beer is an absolute classic in Nuremberg, you can also take it home in a 1L swing-top bottle. The perfect companion. Thank you for the brilliant evening and the great hospitality. Whenever I'm in Nuremberg again, I'd love to come back here to eat and drink.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try the food. I made a reservation for December 24th (2 people) and was there, but none of the waitresses noticed me. At some point we were told that there was a small table available in the corner. Unfortunately, it was really small. Hardly any space to eat and one stool was taken over by a lady at the bar. There was no sign indicating that the table was reserved. Then we left because, in my opinion, you could expect a little better service. But I emphasize here that this is my own opinion and experience.

Great little pub with original local red beer. Can get very busy and a bit warm inside. Worth a visit if can grab a seat.

Very good large schnitzel with potato salad. Actually I only like potato salad with meat salad (Saxon style) but this one was also very good. Can only recommend the restaurant, the homemade red beer is also highly recommended.

The staff was blunt, but it's okay because it's harder to find friendly restaurants in Europe than you think. The rotbier was really delicious and the food was good too. However, I didn't feel good about the old, old racists who joined us at the same table late. It was clear that they were making fun of the three of them as they kept giggling and looking at each other while speaking in German and giggling while saying "I don't understand" in English. lol Is it funny that I use English because I don't know German? We just ate our food in silence, but was it funny because we were simply ‘asian’? lol There is nothing wrong with the restaurant, but the blunt staff served these people with a smile! It was an episode that made me realize the average German people :)

Good traditional food with good service and good beers

Im Vorweihnachtstrubel schnell ne Kleinigkeit Richtung Tiergärtnertorplatz im frühen Dunkel essen...schwierig dachten wir uns angesichts allgemeiner Erfahrung und fragten mal kurz an. Wurde aber trotz voller Tische perfekt "gemanagt". An der Bar platziert,genossen wir zu Szenegetränken wie Aperol natürlich auch das schmackhafte Rotbier. Dies gab es als Rotbiersauce zum knusprigen Schäufele und natürlich nochmals in der gläsernen Variante zum mit Malzschrot "eingeriebenem" Schnitzel. Als Abschluss noch mit den Thekennachbarn einen Bierbrand. Fazit: Schneller Service,gutes Essen und toller Digestif. Top👍🏼

Great traditional brewpub to sample local beers & whiskey! Didn’t try the food this time. They seem to be famous for their large selection of whisky and other spirits. Lots of awards on the walls. Ask for seasonal beers! Their red bock is incredible 🍻 Will be back when I’m in Nuremberg again.

Nice brewery, very nice staff. Unfortunately very cold at this time of year as the door is constantly opening. You have to like red beer... mine isn't. The food was consistently delicious.
