Without a table reservation (okay, just two people), after a few delicious, cleanly poured Gaffel Kölsch beers, we waited comfortably at the bar and were assigned a table by the chef himself – fantastic! We're a couple of Argentinians, and we were looking for a place to eat typical local food. The dishes were hearty, the food delicious, and the waiter was very helpful and spoke English. I highly recommend it and would go again.

We were in Cologne for a concert and were hungry. Our spontaneous decision to go to Haus Scholzen was absolutely the right one! The food was excellent, the hollandaise sauce obviously homemade. The ambiance is lovely, and the staff is incredibly friendly and very attentive! We felt very comfortable and, like many of our previous reviewers, can highly recommend this restaurant!

We visited Haus Scholzen for our first traditional roast goose meal. It was delicious, and especially nice that you could choose between leg and breast. We opted for the traditional version with dumplings and red cabbage. It came with chestnuts and a small baked apple. The other version comes with lamb's lettuce and "Domspitzen" (a kind of German dish). A special thank you to our waitress Edda, who was super friendly and accommodating at all times, despite the packed restaurant. 😍

We were (positively) surprised by the size of the restaurant, as from the outside you'd expect a rather small establishment. The beer garden is quiet and offers plenty of space to enjoy the great food and the friendly and attentive service. Completely satisfied!

I don't know when we last had such a fantastic meal. Large portions and a real treat. And the service was A++++ You can only give this place 5 stars, but this restaurant and its staff deserve more! I really liked this place. The staff were very friendly, the food was great and the traditional atmosphere was exactly what I had been looking for - but never found - whenever I visited Germany. The copper bar is a sight to behold and while the decor is old fashioned, it's clear that the image of this place is well cared for. As a bonus, side dishes are included on top of the already generous portions. 🥹

We were invited to a celebration there yesterday and have never been there before. Unfortunately not, because it was really great! There is basically something for everyone. I had a typical Cologne Hämmchen (Eidbein) with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes that was of such good quality that I hadn't eaten in a long time. My wife had a cordon bleue and the children had schnitzel. For cordon bleue and schnitzel you can choose between young pig and veal. Schnitzel and Cordon Bleue was also great. For smaller ones, there is an extra children's card to color in, which includes great nuggets. If you don't really want meat, you'll also find a lot to choose from. For example, there was a really great spring roll and much more. Of course there is Kölsch, but also a variety of wines. The ambience is typical of a brewery, but one that is very cozy. It's big but nicely laid out. You can only sit outside directly on the street, which has a great atmosphere in the middle of Ehrenfeld. The service was great and despite the restaurant being completely full, it was quick and friendly. The only thing that bothers me about the store is that we didn't discover it sooner.

We went to Haus Scholzen for lunch on a Saturday. Our dog was also welcome and received 2 treats and water 💖 Our food was very tasty! We ordered brawn with fried potatoes, potato pancakes with Flönz and Himmel und Äd. Everything tasted great and was appetizingly prepared. We'd love to come back.

It is a warm-hearted place, the Scholzen. This is mainly due to the warm and competent service. The delicious food and the rustic ambience do the rest. People enjoy spending their time here.

The meal is simply delicious. The cordon bleu was with onions with a generous portion, salty fries and salad, what do you want, here you go. What can I say about the staff, always a laugh, it's pleasant and appreciated. You will not regret your meal.

Birthday Debacle We visited Haus Scholzen again in a larger group. The anticipation was high. The first disappointment came upon arrival: at our table, reserved for 5:30 p.m. (!), other guests were sitting happily laughing. We were promptly moved to the 'bistro,' which was advertised as a quiet alternative. It turned out to be so quiet that the food didn't arrive for about two hours. Nevertheless, we were repeatedly asked if we wanted anything else to drink. The discontent in our birthday group grew by the minute, and we repeatedly asked what was going on and that we were hungry. The mood at the birthday table reached its lowest point, as there wasn't even any bread to tide us over. The very friendly waitress was helpless and mentioned that "a member of our group had apparently ordered soup, which meant the whole order had been delayed." - Excuse me? After speaking to the manager at the counter again, we were given a few small salad bowls. Then, nothing for another half hour. We debated whether to go to the kebab stand across the street or go home to make a sandwich. As the hostess, I was already sick with anger 😡. I've never experienced anything like this in my entire life. Finally, the food arrived after about two hours. We ate in silence, putting hunger over quality, and paid immediately. It was an absolute disaster. We had been regulars at Haus Scholzen before and were satisfied. However, this experience put us off so much that we will avoid the restaurant until further notice, especially since we were not accommodated in any way. Apparently, there were too few staff in the kitchen, and the place was completely overcrowded. The desperate guest was left with only a longing glance at the kebab stand across the street and a lasting memory that still gives us stomachaches days later. Absolutely outrageous.

Best German cuisine in Cologne. Great quality. Because of the good cuisine and the great service, it is unfortunately always fully booked. Spontaneously you have to be very lucky.

Be careful on weekends. In the past, people passed the time with a starter while cooking the main course. Now it's an excuse to start cooking later. One in our group of 8 had a starter, so 7 of us waited an hour and a half for the first meal to arrive (and even then only a few salads, not the mains). When we asked why we had to wait so long, one of us was told it was his fault because he had ordered an appetizer! A poor attempt at humor and actually a bit rude from the staff. Otherwise everything was fine, except that the table we had specially reserved was occupied by someone else. That was our last time there, the competition doesn't sleep either!

Food was good, we ordered very different dishes and everyone was satisfied. Very tasty wine. However, it's not exactly cheap - you can easily reach 40 euros per person. And when it's full, it gets pretty loud.

The wait time of almost 100 minutes was simply too long. The manager's explanation: "The kitchen is under pressure/at full capacity." Yes, then they should rethink their staffing and reservations. They didn't even offer a free espresso as a small apology. The food was okay, and the service staff were very friendly, though. We definitely won't be back because the mood at our table was very dampened by the overall experience. Best regards

Ambience is always very subjective, if you like Delft porcelain and prefer it rustic, you are in good hands here. It's not mine, but I would come back, the most important thing of all fits ;-). Haus Scholzen is an absolute recommendation in Cologne. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy and the service is courteous and friendly. We went there in the evening during the week without a reservation, but on the weekend it is advisable to call in advance. The waiting time was short, the portions were plentiful and everything tasted fresh and simply excellent. We always like to come back :)

Haus Scholzen is THE incarnation of a traditional Cologne economy. Carefully restored ambience, cozy rooms, nice little corners to sit and enjoy... and the menu actually offers something delicious: We had potato pancakes with salmon and tartare, very, very plentiful and good. Although the potato pancakes are a bit thick, they are wonderfully crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, simply delicious! The tartare could have used a little more seasoning (anchovy, capers... also already chopped onions), but overall it was very good. And in my opinion the price-performance ratio is unbeatable! - Plus a delicious Gaffel or Bitburger and a small but interesting wine list. - Friendly staff contribute to a pleasant visit. Gladly again!

Even when it's full you'll be noticed. Then it's not so bad to wait a bit. No matter what I/we have eaten there so far, it has always been great. Exactly as it should be, and extremely accommodating if a misunderstanding happens. I love eating there.

The two of us arrived today at 2:10 p.m. and wanted to sit comfortably in the bar area. As soon as we got our first foot in, we were told that it would soon be lunch break. Okay, so turned around and left. Afterwards I checked: lunch break only starts at 3:00 p.m.! 1-3 Kölsch would have easily been fine. It's a shame, a missed opportunity for both sides!

No wonder given the price-performance ratio. - The service was absolutely friendly. - The food is fresh, the best ingredients and prepared to perfection. - The ambience, a real little pearl, between all the fast food stalls. In short, when we are back in Cologne we will come back 😀

Wir waren gestern spontan ohne Reservierung mit 5 Personen um 17 Uhr dort. Das Restaurant war komplett ausgebucht, aber die sehr freundliche Bedienung konnte uns für zwei Stunden einen Tisch anbieten. Passte sehr gut für uns. Der Rest ist schnell erzählt.... lecker Kölsch, sensationelle Reibekuchen, 1a Schnitzel und bis zur letzten Minute eine aufmerksame freundliche Bedienung. Das Ambiente ist herrlich altmodisch aber top gepflegt und blitzsauber. Tolles Lokal, gerne wieder.

They invited me to dinner and we ate typically German dishes presented in an elegant and very modern way. The portions are generous, this must be taken into account as it is a hearty cuisine. They only have the menu in German, you have to go with someone who understands the language well, it's the only drawback I've found.

Very well eaten goose leg very tasty, crispy with dumplings, red cabbage, chestnuts and apple. Very good sauce and can be asked for a second helping. Friendly quick service. You feel welcome here and have done so at the same very good level for years. To be recommended without reservation.

We walked 30 minutes to try this restaurant, arrived at 1 PM, and were declined service with no explanation whatsoever, even though there were more tables than people inside.
