Birthday Debacle We visited Haus Scholzen again in a larger group. The anticipation was high. The first disappointment came upon arrival: at our table, reserved for 5:30 p.m. (!), other guests were sitting happily laughing. We were promptly moved to the 'bistro,' which was advertised as a quiet alternative. It turned out to be so quiet that the food didn't arrive for about two hours. Nevertheless, we were repeatedly asked if we wanted anything else to drink. The discontent in our birthday group grew by the minute, and we repeatedly asked what was going on and that we were hungry. The mood at the birthday table reached its lowest point, as there wasn't even any bread to tide us over. The very friendly waitress was helpless and mentioned that "a member of our group had apparently ordered soup, which meant the whole order had been delayed." - Excuse me? After speaking to the manager at the counter again, we were given a few small salad bowls. Then, nothing for another half hour. We debated whether to go to the kebab stand across the street or go home to make a sandwich. As the hostess, I was already sick with anger 😡. I've never experienced anything like this in my entire life. Finally, the food arrived after about two hours. We ate in silence, putting hunger over quality, and paid immediately. It was an absolute disaster. We had been regulars at Haus Scholzen before and were satisfied. However, this experience put us off so much that we will avoid the restaurant until further notice, especially since we were not accommodated in any way. Apparently, there were too few staff in the kitchen, and the place was completely overcrowded. The desperate guest was left with only a longing glance at the kebab stand across the street and a lasting memory that still gives us stomachaches days later. Absolutely outrageous.

The food was good; we ordered a variety of dishes, and everyone was satisfied. The wine was very tasty. It's not exactly cheap, though—it easily adds up to €40 per person. And when it's full, it gets pretty loud.

Be careful on weekends. It used to be that people would have a starter to pass the time while the main course was cooked. Now it's an excuse to start cooking later. One person in our group of eight had a starter, so seven of us waited an hour and a half for the first food to arrive (and even then, only a couple of salads, not the main courses). When we asked why we had to wait so long, one of us was told it was his fault because he'd ordered a starter! A poor attempt at humor, and actually a bit rude from the staff. Otherwise, everything was fine, except that the table we had specifically reserved was occupied by someone else. That was our last time there; the competition isn't sleeping!

The best German cuisine in Cologne. Superb quality. Unfortunately, due to the excellent food and superb service, it's always fully booked. You have to be very lucky to get a spontaneous meal.

The wait time of almost 100 minutes was simply too long. The manager's explanation: "The kitchen is under pressure/at full capacity." Yes, then they should rethink their staffing and reservations. They didn't even offer a free espresso as a small apology. The food was okay, and the service staff were very friendly, though. We definitely won't be back because the mood at our table was very dampened by the overall experience. Best regards

We felt very comfortable, the service was very friendly and on the ball. Food was very good, no one had anything to complain about. Ambience is always very subjective, if you like Delft porcelain and prefer it rustic, you are in good hands here. It's not mine, but I would come back, the most important thing of all fits ;-). Haus Scholzen is an absolute recommendation in Cologne. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy and the service is courteous and friendly. We went there in the evening during the week without a reservation, but on the weekend it is advisable to call in advance. The waiting time was short, the portions were plentiful and everything tasted fresh and simply excellent. We always like to come back :)

Haus Scholzen is THE incarnation of a traditional Cologne economy. Carefully restored ambience, cozy rooms, nice little corners to sit and enjoy... and the menu actually offers something delicious: We had potato pancakes with salmon and tartare, very, very plentiful and good. Although the potato pancakes are a bit thick, they are wonderfully crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, simply delicious! The tartare could have used a little more seasoning (anchovy, capers... also already chopped onions), but overall it was very good. And in my opinion the price-performance ratio is unbeatable! - Plus a delicious Gaffel or Bitburger and a small but interesting wine list. - Friendly staff contribute to a pleasant visit. Gladly again!

Even when it's full you'll be noticed. Then it's not so bad to wait a bit. No matter what I/we have eaten there so far, it has always been great. Exactly as it should be, and extremely accommodating if a misunderstanding happens. I love eating there.

The two of us arrived today at 2:10 p.m. and wanted to sit comfortably in the bar area. As soon as we got our first foot in, we were told that it would soon be lunch break. Okay, so turned around and left. Afterwards I checked: lunch break only starts at 3:00 p.m.! 1-3 Kölsch would have easily been fine. It's a shame, a missed opportunity for both sides!

We were there on a Friday and were extremely lucky to get a table, a reservation at the weekend makes sense. No wonder given the price-performance ratio. - The service was absolutely friendly. - The food is fresh, the best ingredients and prepared to perfection. - The ambience, a real little pearl, between all the fast food stalls. In short, when we are back in Cologne we will come back 😀

Wir waren gestern spontan ohne Reservierung mit 5 Personen um 17 Uhr dort. Das Restaurant war komplett ausgebucht, aber die sehr freundliche Bedienung konnte uns für zwei Stunden einen Tisch anbieten. Passte sehr gut für uns. Der Rest ist schnell erzählt.... lecker Kölsch, sensationelle Reibekuchen, 1a Schnitzel und bis zur letzten Minute eine aufmerksame freundliche Bedienung. Das Ambiente ist herrlich altmodisch aber top gepflegt und blitzsauber. Tolles Lokal, gerne wieder.

CELEBRATED MY WIFE'S BIRTHDAY WITH THE FAMILY ON 12/21/24. AS ALWAYS DELICIOUS FOOD. VERY FRIENDLY STAFF. ESPECIALLY THE NEW BLONDE SERVICE IS SUPER NICE AND VERY FAST AS WELL AS ALL OF THE EMPLOYEES. UNFORTUNATELY PRICES ARE HIGH LIKE ANYWHERE ELSE.

They invited me to dinner and we ate typically German dishes presented in an elegant and very modern way. The portions are generous, this must be taken into account as it is a hearty cuisine. They only have the menu in German, you have to go with someone who understands the language well, it's the only drawback I've found.

Very well eaten goose leg very tasty, crispy with dumplings, red cabbage, chestnuts and apple. Very good sauce and can be asked for a second helping. Friendly quick service. You feel welcome here and have done so at the same very good level for years. To be recommended without reservation.

We walked 30 minutes to try this restaurant, arrived at 1 PM, and were declined service with no explanation whatsoever, even though there were more tables than people inside.

Ich habe wohl schon alle Brauhäuser Kölns mehrfach besucht und meist genossen. Das Haus Scholzen ist für mich nach wie vor von durchgehender Qualität, Preisleistung und traditionelle Freundlichkeit als Familienunternehmen spitze. Kinderfreundlich und entspannt. Immer voll, daher Reservieren oder Geduld.

Cologne brewery. Not touristy! Very friendly service! The food was good to very good, but in my opinion it was rather too expensive. Still recommended.

Food was quite good. Prices are increased in my opinion. The background noise is significantly increased, which was sometimes unpleasant. The service was very attentive, friendly, quick and in a good mood.

I ordered the high-priced rabbit dish. It tasted like liver and no longer like rabbit. And seems to have been very bad meat. Here it is best to ONLY order the food that is ordered frequently. Service top, furnishings a bit like a large hall but atmosphere good.

Very nice Cologne restaurant/brewery. We sat outside in the garden/yard - which was ideal given the summer temperatures. Inside it is attractive in the typical Cologne brewery style. We had a very nice waitress who was very attentive and quick. Everyone enjoyed the meal, including dessert, very much. The dishes were also beautifully and attractively presented. There's nothing wrong with that. At most, this quality also had its price. It wasn't too expensive, but it wasn't particularly cheap either. The prices were appropriate in my opinion. The Gaffel Kölsch was as you know it. Tasty, cold and always delivered quickly. Therefore a clear recommendation. I or we will come back.

Actually everything was very good, food, service perfect. What bothered me were the prices for wine and drinks in general. Why so overpriced? The ambience is a brewery atmosphere. It's okay.

Wonderful inn. Great atmosphere, no matter whether it's the guests or the staff... Everyone would have had a good time, which I wouldn't have been there for. 😁 Kölsch nachschank, as it should be, without asking, promptly and always with a quick saying. 🤗 The food was consistently delicious and there was absolutely nothing to complain about. We arrived with 5, and were asked "table for 5?" Which we said yes. After we had our first round of Kölsch, we noticed that someone was still missing. 🙈 No problem for the Köbes, in no time at all an additional table was set up, on which there was immediately a fresh Kölsch for the newcomer. I am very impressed by a really great original Cologne restaurant. We'll be back ❤️

Very tasty food, service also very good. Unfortunately the price is over the top. €37.80 for a goose leg. I ordered a large fries extra: €11.60. Inflation or not, that is cheeky and disproportionate.

Wir hatten für 13 Personen Gans bestellt und wurden vom freundlichen Service an einen schönen langen Tisch geführt. Die Gans gab es in zwei Variationen ; Brust oder Keule ; Beides war sehr lecker ! Sehr flexibel im Umgang mit Kundenwünschen. JA, wir kommen sehr gern wieder!

That used to be one of the best meals. Super tasty. The service is great, as the employees are all very courteous and nice. We all agreed that it wouldn't be the last time we ate in Haus Scholzen.

We went to Haus Scholzen for the first time for our traditional roast goose meal. It was delicious - and especially nice that you could choose between leg and breast. We chose the traditional version with dumplings and red cabbage. There are also chestnuts and a small baked apple. The other variant comes with lamb's lettuce and "cathedral tips". A special thank you to our waitress Edda, who was super friendly and accommodating at all times, despite the absolutely full restaurant.😍

Für mich eines der besten Restaurants, Küche. Selbst gemachte Fischstäbchen für Kinder, der Sauerbraten ist ein Traum und alle weiteren Produkte, die wir hier schon gegessen haben, waren ebenfalls gut. Falls ihr mal einen Tisch bestellen wollt, macht dies am besten per Mail, da haben wir eigentlich immer zeitnah eine Rückmeldung bekommen.

The prices have increased like everywhere else, but the food was really delicious. And even though we didn't all receive our orders at the same time, we had a very nice evening. Wir haben das Haus gestern zum ersten Mal besucht und hatten zu zweit Glück mit dem Tisch, denn ohne Reservierung bekommt man normalerweise keinen Platz. Es war viertel vor sechs. Haus Scholzen bietet ein tolles Ambiente, sauber und gepflegt. Ein echt schönes Restaurant nach kölscher Art. Wir bestellten ein Cordon Bleu und ein Jägerschnitzel. Es war optisch toll angerichtet und keine platt geklopfte „ Panadenplatte“. Eher ein Schweinerückensteak. Ja und natürlich hat es auch lecker geschmeckt. Der fein gezupfte Salat kam in einer grosszügigen Schüssel separat und war lecker mit einem Joghurtdressing angemacht. Die Menge an Pommes, deren Farbe und Geschmack entsprachen unseren Vorstellungen. Die Sauce Hollondaise beim Cordon Bleu sowie das Salatdressing kamen eindeutig nicht aus einer Fertigzubereitung sondern waren selbst angerührt. Das Jägerschnitzel stand auch vom Kalb zur Auswahl. Unsere Bedienung war immer zum richtigen Zeitpunkt bei uns. Es war gut und wir kommen wieder. Wir sind dann noch bis halb elf an der Theke geblieben. Es gibt eine ziemlich große Auswahl an Schnäpsen und Likeuren😊 Noch ein Tip: Bier statt Wein dann ist Rechnung etwas kleiner.

Ended up here on the recommendation of the hotel staff. Obviously not reserved but arrived early. As long as we got out before 8pm. No problem. We had a really delicious meal and the service was great. The restaurant was also packed with local people. That says enough. Highly recommended.

Service very attentive and friendly. A big compliment for the composure and patience during service despite the high volume and noise level in the busy brewery.
