Haus Gammler in Essen

It was a lovely Saturday for us, somewhat marred by the presentation of the exquisite food. The dishes, prepared with great attention to detail, deserved nicer tableware, even if there was an ecological reason behind it that we weren't aware of. We don't eat out often, but our food has always been served on china or similar. As an aside, but I don't mean it in a bad way, we don't drink our coffee from paper cups either. If this had been a barbecue, it would have been fine. Otherwise, it was a successful event, with great live music from Mark Johns.

Since our hotel didn't offer any vegetarian food, we searched online and decided on Mangold, not far from our hotel – partly because of the vegetarian and vegan options and partly because of the good reviews. Conclusion: The dishes we ate could easily be described as Michelin-starred cuisine with a Persian touch! Beautifully presented with wonderfully fresh herbs and attention to detail, the taste was outstanding, and the visual appeal was pleasing, served by an extremely friendly and nimble waiter. The decor is somewhat spartan, with white chair covers, set tables, and art prints catching the eye. It's a real shame we had to leave so soon...

We celebrated our mother's birthday there. A warm welcome, attentive service, delicious food (the goat cheese salad is divine), great wines, and overall, the selection of food and drinks is top-notch! We felt completely at home and would gladly return.
