We only went there for a meal after visiting Lake Eibsee. The food was served quickly and piping hot. The waiter was friendly, attentive, and courteous. I ordered a Gröstl (a traditional potato and meat dish), which was served in a cast-iron pot. My friend ordered a schnitzel, which was beautifully presented on a wooden platter. Great food, very tasty! Excellent service! We'll definitely be back!

Restaurant is EXCELLENT! Outside lights are very inviting, decorated with a loving Bavarian touch, schnitzel and spatzle flavors are handmade with an outstanding taste, presentation of the meal delighted the eyes, and the service was flawless.

We were staying at a nearby hotel and visited this restaurant yesterday. The food wasn't impressive, although the presentation was appetizing. It felt like the food had been prepared a long time ago and was simply reheated before serving. The plates were only attractive for presentation; they were uncomfortable to eat from.

We stayed at the Gungel Stuben for a week. The apartment was very comfortably furnished and equipped with everything you could need. The location is excellent, with a beautiful view of the mountains, including the Zugspitze. The food in the restaurant was an experience every day, and the hosts were always very attentive, friendly, and accommodating. Very child-friendly and always had a funny saying. Highly recommended!

We didn't feel welcome. We walked into a completely empty restaurant and just wanted a drink. We were seated at the smallest and crampedest table, even though all the tables were free. A few more guests came during our stay, but they only took up 3 or 4 other tables inside. We weren't asked again whether we wanted to order anything else; we were largely ignored. I found the service rather unfriendly. We then paid and preferred to have our second beer at the Schmölzer Wirt; there we felt welcome as guests, even if we only wanted a drink. After that experience, you won't come back to eat.

We waited a long time for food and drinks, even though it wasn't busy. The staff seemed very unenthusiastic. The food was okay, hence the 2 stars.

I can't comment on the rooms, as we were only there as restaurant guests. We were here on a Saturday afternoon and were able to reserve a table for dinner without any problems – great! We were a bit disappointed with the service, especially with the two young employees. One of them took our food, and a while later, the senior member came and had to take it again because the young man couldn't remember what he'd written down. Unfortunately, the side dish was delivered incorrectly. When our food arrived (from one of the young men), the sauce was forgotten. When he came back, we asked him about it, and he said, "It'll be right there." In our opinion, the correct answer should have been, "Just a moment, I'll check." Ten minutes later, I went in myself and took care of the sauce. Unfortunately, the food itself can't be rated automatically, but we would give it 5 stars because it was truly delicious!

An absolutely stunning mountain inn! 🌄 The panoramic view of the Zugspitze is simply breathtaking and worth the visit alone. Add to that the exceptionally friendly and helpful service, which makes you feel immediately welcome. The food was not only beautifully presented, but also truly delicious and plentiful – much better than you might expect at first glance. A great bonus: Our two children even received a free ice cream after paying – a thoughtful gesture that made us very happy. We've been here since Monday and unfortunately have to leave tomorrow (Friday). For us, the Gungl Stubn is very centrally located, not far from the Höllentalklamm gorge or Eibsee, both of which are perfectly within walking distance. The room is stylishly and lovingly furnished and overall very clean. We were asked every day if we had any requests. Requests were promptly fulfilled if possible. We highly recommend the Gungl Stubn as a place to stay in the region, especially for anyone who doesn't like mass tourism. The food in the restaurant is prepared with great attention to detail. It tastes excellent. Finally, a restaurant that cooks regionally and freshly. The portions are great; everyone will be more than satisfied here. The staff also deserves praise. Not intrusive, yet very entertaining. Overall, we highly recommend the Gungl Stubn. We will be back.

We came here spontaneously and will be back during our stay. The food is fresh, delicious, and unfussy. The host and hostess are totally relaxed. Particularly commendable is that the hunter's schnitzel isn't soaked in sauce, but rather served in a small glass. The atmosphere is rustic, even a bit kitschy, and there's no rush to tourists.

Had an amazing stay in Gunghl Stubn! One of my memorable stays I had on my trips. The balcony with the mountain view is super! Room is clean and very tidy, coffee and teas are available in the room and beds are really comfy with an extra blanket. The owners are very nice and welcoming. They also owned the restaurant downstairs and we really loved all the food that we had there. Super close to the train station like just 2-3 mins walk, and the bus stop going to Eibsee is just right in-front of the hotel so it’s very convenient. The area is very quiet, despite the restaurant being downstairs, we had 3 quiet nights and amazing sleep. Overall I enjoyed my whole stay in Gungl Stubn and would really love to go back 😁

The restaurant is worth a visit. It's not a tourist-friendly place and is absolutely child-friendly. The food is top-quality and reasonably priced. Whether on the terrace with its mountain views or in the restaurant itself, the atmosphere is relaxed and time flies. We ate there a total of three evenings during our six-day vacation... That should say a lot.

We came here yesterday for a beer after visiting another nearby restaurant and were truly fascinated. When we arrived, it was absolute chaos. The terrace was packed, the boss was serving with his two sons, and the chef was alone in the kitchen. Despite this, we were given a table straight away and were served quickly and in a friendly manner, always with a quick joke. The boys were given a scoop of ice cream (even though we only had drinks), and the atmosphere was picture-perfect. All of this prompted us to reserve a table for dinner the following day. Our table was ready, the drinks arrived promptly, the food was plentiful, and above all, absolutely excellent. Even the small jar of sauce was great, as it prevented the entire breading of the schnitzel from getting soggy or the fries from going under. It was simply delicious, the hosts were absolutely dedicated, and even if something was forgotten (which can happen in the hustle and bustle of the business), it arrived a moment later with a charming wink 🤷 Conclusion: We ordered four adult portions with two adults and two children, eight drinks, and three desserts, and the total came to €135. A bargain compared to nearby restaurants. Down-to-earth cooking, a great terrace, a wonderful view, and truly delicious food. Thank you 👍

(actually 6 out of 5 stars) Gungl Stubn – A true gem at the foot of the Zugspitze The Gungl Stubn is a small, family-run inn serving Bavarian-German cuisine that not only impresses with its stunning location directly at the Zugspitze, but above all with its warmth, quality, and attention to detail. We – two 17-year-olds and my parents – were welcomed by an incredibly friendly family business. Three waiters looked after us: an extremely charming older gentleman who could easily pass for Elton John, and his two sons around our age. From the very first minute, we felt welcome and in good hands. The Food We ordered pork schnitzel with steak fries and salad, as well as chicken breast with hunter's sauce and spaetzle. Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, beautifully presented on wooden trays, and tasted simply fantastic. There were also homemade lemonades, which were a real highlight: herb-lime for me, lemon for my girlfriend, and berry varieties for my parents. The latter were sweet, but incredibly delicious – a true summer refreshment! The ambiance The tables are clean, the terrace well-kept, and the view of the Zugspitze is simply breathtaking. You could sit for hours, enjoying the view and soaking up the atmosphere. The service – and a special surprise At the end, there was a scene that we will all remember: After paying, the elderly gentleman asked my girlfriend with a wink if she could help with the dishes. I was briefly irritated – and offered to do it myself – but he charmingly insisted on taking her with him. Of course, I went along to "protect" her. The solution? No sink, no dishes – just the ice cream counter! There, my girlfriend was allowed to choose an ice cream, and I, as her loyal companion, was allowed to too. A small, loving moment that perfectly rounded off the visit. Conclusion The Gungl Stubn combines delicious cuisine, warm service, stunning views, and that certain something you can't buy: genuine hospitality. For me, it's 5 out of 5 stars—actually, 6. If you're near the Zugspitze, you shouldn't miss this place.

We stayed 3 nights at Gungl Stubn and do not recommend it at all. - Rooms in poor taste (animal heads, horns, etc.) and old-fashioned - Bathroom with a slightly high shower and a very slow and rusty water drain - Beds were nothing special, mattress too soft, and a very thin duvet that wasn't enough for me. There are blankets, but I didn't dare use them because they didn't seem very hygienic. - Access to the room via the restaurant terrace: we were not comfortable. - The train station is right next door (noisy) Pros: Very nice view Balcony Guest card with free entry to the pool and public transport Parking (but it needs to be renovated. My wife and I were looking for a good restaurant and found it here. The beer was really good. A good head! For dinner, my wife had the knuckle of pork and I had the Zillertaler schnitzel. The portion was above average and incredibly delicious! The time between ordering and the food arriving at the table felt like five minutes. Fast service, excellent food, and good value!
