Gretchens Restaurant & Café in Weimar

Wir suchten eine Gastronomie ohne deftige thüringische Speisen. Wir entschieden für Gretchens. In einem friedlichen Ambiente konnten wir uns mit liebevoll zubereiteten Speisen stärken. Im Hintergrund lief leise unaufdringliche Musik. Ich wählte die Spinatknödel, weil sie einem Mittagessen am nächsten kamen. Meine Freundin bevorzugte ein Egg -Drop- Sandwich. Beides hat uns super geschmeckt. (Kleiner Verbesserungsvorschlag: ein kleiner Salat zu den Knödeln hätte es noch besser gemacht...) Das Gretchen wird momentan durch die Baustelle am Goethehaus etwas verdeckt. Die kleine Gasse ist zugänglich und das Gretchen liegt gleich daneben. Auch die Dachterrasse ist schön.

Super schön. Essen nur die Zimtschnecke versucht. Lavendellimo war Mega!

Schöne Räumlichkeiten, wir saßen auf der romantischen Dachterrasse in der Sonne (dort allerdings Selbstbedienung), Bio-Backwaren, freundliche Bedienung, haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt!

Grandiose Katastrophe! Maßlose Überforderung des Personals mit uns als größere Gruppe führten zu extrem langen Wartezeiten von etwa 1 Stunde für Getränke, die Küche war sogar schneller als die Theke. Das Essen war zwar sehr lecker, aber das hat den Besuch dann auch nicht mehr retten können. Abgespeist wurden wir mit leeren Phrasen, dass der Kaffee nunmal so lange dauert, damit die Qualität gesichert würde. Blöd nur, dass die Hälfte des Tisches Wasser, Tee oder Orangensaft bestellt hatte. Alles in allem hat es den gemütlichen Sonntagmorgen leider einfach nur versaut.

Der Service ist ausgezeichnet und die Atmosphäre sehr angenehm.

Die Frühstücksauswahl ist klein, aber fein und sehr nett angerichtet. Es hat jedoch recht lange gedauert, bis die Bestellung kam (über 60 Minuten) und dann war sie auch nicht vollständig. Die Bedienung war sehr nett. Sehr schade war jedoch, dass die Kletterhöhle, die in diversen Blogs und Bewertungen gelobt wurde, zu war. Diese Info hätte ich gern der Webseite entnommen. Mein Sohn war entsprechend enttäuscht und das war eigentlich der Hauptgrund, dort zu frühstücken und nicht in einem anderen Café.

Wir gehen hier gern frühstücken. Der Service ist immer freundlich und das Ambiente sehr entspannt. 😌

Ein kleines, stimmungsvolles Restaurant. Dezente Musik. Sehr freundliches Personal. Köstliche Spargelcremesuppe (wir waren Ende April, während der Spargelsaison, dort zum Mittagessen).

Während unseres Aufenthalts im Familienhotel in Weimar entschieden wir uns, das Frühstück im „Gretchens“ zu buchen – eine Entscheidung, die wir definitiv nicht bereut haben. Schon der Kaffee war hervorragend und sorgte für einen perfekten Start in den Tag. Besonders überzeugt hat uns die abwechslungsreiche À-la-carte-Auswahl, die weit über ein klassisches Frühstück hinausgeht. Da wir insgesamt sechs Nächte vor Ort waren, hatten wir ausreichend Gelegenheit, viele verschiedene Gerichte zu probieren – und jedes einzelne wurde frisch zubereitet und liebevoll angerichtet. Auch auf individuelle Wünsche wurde jederzeit flexibel und freundlich eingegangen. Der Service war durchweg aufmerksam und herzlich. Das junge Team schafft eine angenehme, entspannte Atmosphäre, in der man sich sofort wohlfühlt. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt: Auch unser Hund war herzlich willkommen, was den Aufenthalt für uns umso angenehmer gemacht hat. Ein rundum gelungenes Frühstückserlebnis – wir können das Gretchens uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

Wir waren zwei Mal im "Gretchens" zum Frühstücken und waren beide Male sehr begeistert. So ein leckeres Frühstück hatte ich bisher selten irgendwo! 😍 Das Omelett ist einfach ein Traum und auch das Porridge, "Arme Ritter" und das Sauerteigbrot mit Zucchini waren sooo lecker! 🫶🏼 Alles ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail angerichtet und die Backwaren sind aus eigener Produktion. Das Ambiente ist gemütlich und angenehm. Einzige mini-Kritik: die Hafermilch im Cappuccino könnte besser sein, aber das ist in Anbetracht der leckeren Speisen zu verschmerzen.

Sehr freundliches Personal, sehr gutes Essen und nettes Ambiente! Der Kaffee war leider nicht ganz unser Geschmack.

Bio-Produkte, viel selbst gemacht, Frühstück mit einem interessanten Dreh - einfach gut. Kaffeeprodukte nicht gerade günstig, aber lecker.

Ich habe hier bisher nur einen Cappuccino getrunken, aber der war wirklich ausgezeichnet (sie verwenden Röstbrüder-Kaffee) und die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich. Man kann auch die Dachterrasse nutzen, die ruhig und friedlich ist. 👍😊

Gretchens Bio-Restaurant ist sehr empfehlenswert. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön und ruhig. Die Bedienung ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Die Speisen sind sehr köstlich und mit liebe angerichtet. Frühstück in der Brotklappe am Frauenplan - kleine, süße, rustikale Bäckerei, die in Weimar Kultcharakter hat - viele Besucher, es gibt nur wenige Tische im Innenbereich, Selbstbedienung. Als ortsfremde Person muss man wissen, dass es sich um einen Bäckerimbiss handelt - die Backwaren aus der Auslage werden auf einem Teller serviert mit frischem Kaffee. Allerdings ist bei der Tischbestellung im Internetauftritt NICHT ersichtlich, dass es das reichhaltige Frühstücksangebot nur im Gretchens gibt. Deshalb erstmal Enttäuschung... Aber trotzdem lecker. Für Frühstück mit Rührei, Brötchen, Marmelade... lieber im Gretchens (Seifengasse) einen Tisch bestellen.

Sehr sehr niedliches kleines Café mit einer überschaubaren und vollkommen ausreichenden Menüauswahl. Das Essen war sehr lecker und das Ambiente ist gemütlich und lädt zum verweilen ein. Gerne wieder! Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert, gleichzeitig auch Glück, da erst später eine größere Gruppe kam und es so sehr ruhig und angenehm im Restaurant war. Zum Geräuschpegel, wenn das Gretchens gut besucht ist, kann ich leider nichts sagen.

Nettes modernes Ambiente, freundliche Bedienung und guter Kuchen. Allerdings war das Angebot an Kuchen sehr limitiert und die Preise sind deutlich zu hoch. Dafür gibt es einen Punkt Abzug. Ein großer Milchkaffee oder ein Stück Kuchen für jeweils € 7 !

Wir haben über 45 Minuten auf unser Essen gewartet.

Es war von der Gastgeberseite her leider völlig egal ob man da war oder nicht. Sehr schönes Lokal , Personal leider nicht motiviert , zur besten Kaffeezeit gab es keine Kuchenauswahl , nur noch Croissants. Schade

Ein ausgezeichneter Ort zu frühstücken, hervorragendes Speisenangebot, sehr zuvorkommende Bedienung. Es stimmt einfach alles. Sehr zu empfehlen. Immer gerne wieder auch für uns als Weimarer.

Die Kellnerin, die uns bediente war sehr nett! Allerdings wurde uns die Suppe verwehrt, weil es nach 14 Uhr war. Laut Kellnerin schließt die Küche da erstmal. Dafür kann sie ja nichts. Allerdings war dieser Hinweis nirgendwo zu finden. Entsprechend unser Frust. Als „Entschädigung“ wurde uns ein Karottenkuchen angeboten, dafür Daumen hoch.

Sind als Gruppe eher zufällig zum Brunch hier gelandet und waren am Ende alle begeistert 😋👌

Wie immer eine 10/10 in unserer Lieblingsbäckerei!

Wir waren mit Freunden dort und es hat uns sehr gut gefallen: Bücher für Groß und Klein in Hülle und Fülle, einen abgetrennten Raum für ein ungestörtes Zusammensein und der Service sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Können wir weiterempfehlen, gerade mit Kind kann man hier sehr entspannt einen Kaffee trinken oder z.B. leckere Spinatknödel essen. Schade, dass es das nicht mehr in Weimar gibt.

Wir waren zum Abendessen im Gretchens und rundum sehr zufrieden! Die Spinatknödel waren hervorragend! Klare Empfehlung - beim nächsten Besuch in Weimar kommen wir wieder :)

Tolles Frühstück, große Empfehlung: Omelette mit Sriracha Mayo! Super netter Service, angenehme Atmosphäre. Geheimtipp: Mit dem Fahrstuhl zur Dachterrasse hochfahren und den Blick schweifen lassen.

Ich wollte meine Geschenkkarte einlösen, und der Kellner war sehr, sehr freundlich, als ich mir unsicher war, wie das geht! Er war hilfsbereit und kannte sich gut aus! Vielen Dank für das angenehme Erlebnis!

Wir waren mit 9 Personen zum Frühstück dort. Die Wartezeit auf das Essen dauert ziemlich lange. Der Kaffee war leider kalt und 1 Essen wurde vergessen und auf Nachfrage nachgereicht. Im Großen und Ganzen ganz nett dort wenn man über Kleinigkeiten, wie ein nicht vorhandener Eierlöffel, hinwegsehen kann. Für die Preise könnte der Service besser sein.

Einfach nur wow. Tolle Bäckerei, tolles hochwertiges Frühstück mit wahnsinns Geschmack. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Nachdem wir Stammgäste der Mandelcroissants und Brote von Brotklappe waren, besuchten wir Gretchens | Bio-Restaurant + Café. Wir probierten das gegrillte Sauerteigbrot mit Zucchinisalat und Farahghanoush – die Portion war riesig, aber die dicke Brotscheibe ließ sich nur schwer schneiden; zwei kleinere Scheiben wären viel besser gewesen. Das Essen war in Ordnung, aber 25 € für zwei Gerichte empfanden wir als etwas überteuert. Ehrlich gesagt sind ihre Croissants, Palmiers und Baguettes immer noch das absolute Highlight.

The restaurant's ambiance is truly lovely and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the cleanliness – the floor, in particular, was quite dirty, which detracted from the overall impression. The food was okay, but nothing special. Overall, it was alright, but because of the cleanliness and the rather average food, I can only give it three stars.

We had a confirmed reservation for 11 people. When we arrived promptly, many tables were occupied. There was absolutely no room for 11 people. When we mentioned the reservation, the young man behind the counter rolled his eyes in full view of us... (This is unacceptable!). We then left and (without a reservation) found a table at the nearby Erbenhof, which we enjoyed very much. The Brotklappe, on the other hand, is not recommended.

When we asked for a breakfast menu, we were told that this service was no longer offered. They only served what was available at the counter. The reason for our reservation was the website, which suggested breakfast was available. We then left the noisy and crowded place and found another café that offered breakfast. I can't comment on the quality of the food.

We were there with a larger group (18 people with children). Everything took a little longer than expected, but that was due to the size of our group. We went for breakfast. Everyone loved the bread and the coffee (Rostbrüder and Brotklappe). I had the French toast with bacon. It was so good! I highly recommend it! Next time we'll try the dinner.

We had breakfast with a large group on October 31st. Unfortunately, it took far too long for our food to arrive. And it was staggered by 30 minutes. The food and drinks are absolutely fantastic.

We had breakfast at Gretchens today. The food was delicious, the service friendly, attentive, and courteous. The atmosphere was also relaxed. Highly recommended.

We were there two days in a row. There's always something missing, whether it's a cake that's out, a batter run out, or even a tea run out. And the tea they do have is so organic that after brewing for five minutes, it still tastes like nothing. Not my taste. The interior is quite nice, though, and the service is at least attentive. Update: The response to the review shows that the owner doesn't understand what service means, and I mentioned two consecutive days. I forgot one thing: The price-performance ratio is unfortunately not right either. A micro cheesecake costs €4 and is half the size of what you'd get at other shops.

Very tasty and beautifully presented food, a lovely and cozy interior, and a good selection of vegan dishes and cakes. A special place with friendly staff.

The three of us were there just for breakfast, it was very expensive and it took forever. I don't understand the many stars at all. You have to judge the overall impression. Sure, the food can be very good, but if you have to wait over 40 minutes for breakfast with four guests, and all at that price, then the 5 stars are completely out of place.

This family-run hotel is a particularly lovely place to dine with friends or family. The food is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend it, but you should definitely make a reservation in advance.

We had breakfast at Gretchen for my birthday. We all really enjoyed it. However, you'll need to be prepared with some time, as it's very busy, especially on weekends, and the food might take a while. However, the food is freshly prepared and delicious. We had no problem bringing our dog, who also felt very comfortable. The coffee was also delicious. All in all, it was very nice; of course, quality comes at a price, so you have to be aware of that.

During a stay in Weimar, we were looking for a place to escape the standard hotel breakfast. We searched around a bit and then quickly reserved a table. We ate a very delicious, unusual panini, followed by an excellent almond croissant. We also had a cuppuccino from the portafilter machine with latte art. We felt very comfortable and would come back anytime.

Friendly staff, good food for fair money. Tried Cardamom Bullar, bread with goat cheese, arugula, walnuts and olive oil, carrot cake, decaf latte. Everything was delicious. True, my carrot cake is tastier. ) Request: please expand the range of herbal and berry teas.

We’ve been to this place twice already, and it’s absolutely wonderful! 🌟 The omelet with sriracha mayo is a must-try, especially when paired with their sourdough bread — just marvelous, melting in your mouth and unbelievably soft. For desert- basque cheesecake only! Tripple recommended! The coffee is also really good, perfectly rounding out the meal. We loved the sourdough bread so much that we even bought it from the nearby bakery as a little souvenir to enjoy at home for a few more days. Highly recommend this spot — we’ll definitely be coming back!

The food is delicious! The staff is also incredibly friendly and accommodating. But guys, why do I have to wait almost 40 minutes for a tiny bowl of scrambled eggs when there are only 15 people in the room? We almost left. We had to wait until almost lunch for the brunch! What a shame! Even though it was delicious, I still wouldn't go back.

My boyfriend and I went there for breakfast yesterday. A very sweet atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food!

Small and cozy. A very family-friendly atmosphere, with a special play den for the kids. Update 2025: The cozy play den has since been moved to a warehouse. A real shame.

We had a wonderful evening. The food was delicious. Without the appetizer, I would have been hungry. Overall, it's not cheap, but it offers the best value in all of Weimar (at least in the center), as they offer unique and organic dishes.

How do they come up with these prices? Absolutely overpriced, the service was friendly but not sufficiently trained for the price level, and even overwhelmed with a slightly larger number of guests. We waited 45 minutes for a simple scrambled egg, and the quality of the food wasn't good either. The egg wasn't cooked through, much too mushy, the ciabatta was a baguette with holes in it, the egg-drop sandwich was a poorly scrambled egg between two slices of toast, and there was no cheese at all, even though the menu says so. What a shame!

Really delicious vegan food, mayo and jam only mediocre. Dill on cheese? I'd love more fruit in the yogurt. :D

I went to Gretchen's with my daughter for breakfast, and we were completely satisfied. The atmosphere is very cozy, quiet, and relaxed, the service was very friendly and attentive, and we underestimated the amount of food. The sourdough bread was incredibly delicious—but it was really thick, which we had underestimated. Unfortunately, quite a bit of it was left on our plates. Next time, we can order more sparingly and order more. We'll definitely be back—if only to try the cinnamon roll!

Very good food – expensive by Weimar standards, but it's fair to say, as the ingredients are of the finest regional organic quality. The wines are also wonderful. However, when you dine high up on the roof terrace, you have to carry your own food and drinks. For every follow-up order, you have to go all the way down and back up again. By elevator, yes, but still: Given the prices and the few (nice!) tables up there, wouldn't it be possible to hire a student assistant? That would add considerably to the overall experience.

Beautiful bistro. Very good coffee, even better croissant. For lunch, very tasty tomato soup with brilliant pastries. I recommend it. 👍

We were at Gretchen in Weimar on June 20, 2025, and we have only very positive things to say. The ambiance, service, and food were absolutely top-notch. As in fine restaurants, you start off with a bread basket with spread and a free carafe of water. The food doesn't arrive immediately after ordering, but rather after 10 to 20 minutes, which confirms that it's freshly prepared. All in all, we were very satisfied and can recommend it without reservation. We'll be happy to return often. The prices are also reasonable and justified. Thank you for the lovely evening with you.

Thank you for the great start to the day

Unfortunately, Gretchen's has declined considerably. Fish and meat dishes were not available due to a lack of staff (without being informed of this when making reservations). The terrace is self-service, and you have to go to the bar to pay. The food itself was of decent quality, but the portions were very small and expensive. Besides, not every guest wants to be addressed informally by the staff without being asked. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it anymore. Unlike on previous visits, we were alone in the dining room on a Saturday evening, so word seems to have gotten around.

We had reserved a table at 16:30 and wanted something to eat. Unfortunately, they only served cake, so we left. We were actually looking forward to vegan food. Unfortunately, this wasn't indicated on the website.

My daughter and I went to Gretchens for the first time, and we were absolutely thrilled. It was beautiful, delicious, and felt like a vacation with you. Absolutely fantastic. We then went straight to your shop and picked up bread, rolls, and pastries. That was fantastic, too. Such a great concept. We think you're great and would love to come back. You were recommended to us by the "MitBrot&Seele" café in Rudolstadt, as we had asked about your delicious bread.

After a short overnight stay in Weimar, we chose Gretchen's for breakfast. An excellent choice that I highly recommend (even with children)!

The dishes are of outstanding quality and exclusiveness, with sophisticated seasoning. Perfect for anyone looking to dine beyond schnitzel and currywurst. This isn't a standard fare focused solely on minimizing costs and maximizing profits, but rather a concept clearly focused on freshness, expertly prepared dishes, and quality ingredients. Definitely not the same old dish that you unfortunately find almost everywhere these days, but rather a clear commitment to more exclusive tastes. A good address for those with intact palates and sensitive taste buds. The ambience is bright and decorated in pleasant colors, with high-quality, comfortable seating and subtle table decorations. The music during my visit was subtle, pleasant jazz. The service is friendly. The value for money is good. Therefore, it's highly recommended. You won't find a better place in Weimar anytime soon.

An organic vegetarian restaurant 🍴 here vegetarians get their money's worth, finding something hidden! Have breakfast, lunch or 🌆 dinner, here you will find a nice place to sit in a pleasant atmosphere. Spinach dumplings, broccoli steak or lasagne or a real steak, there's something for everyone here! Service top, and the kitchen too!

Very great breakfast! Variations that you don't get everywhere and are really delicious. You can eat not only in the beautifully furnished restaurant, but also on the roof terrace or in the small garden. The staff is very friendly! Highly recommended all around!

Das Essen ist frisch gekocht und sehr lecker. Die Auswahl der Gerichte ist nicht so groß aber dafür ist alles frisch. Man kann ausgesprochen schön auf der Dachterrasse sitzen. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich.

Ein modern, licht eingerichtetes Restaurant mit kleinem Garten und toller Dachterrasse. Karte Schwerpunkt auf vegetarische Gerichte, gibt aber auch Steak. Gebratene Rote Beete als Vorspeise sehr lecker, als Hauptspeise verschiedene Brotsorten mit Käse und Salat auch sehr gut, ebenso der gebratene Broccoli. Gute offene Weine. Service nett und freundlich.

A modern, light restaurant with a small garden and a great roof terrace. Menu focuses on vegetarian dishes, but also offers steak. Roasted beetroot was very tasty as a starter, various types of bread with cheese and salad were also very good as a main course, as was the fried broccoli. Good open wines. Very nice restaurant. Located in a small side street. The order went pretty quickly. The cake was very tasty. Chocolate cake and French cheese cake! Hmmmhhh. Setting up for dinner was a bit annoying. Apparently the covering by the male employee wasn't good enough for the female employee. Unfortunately, she announced this loudly in front of us customers. Right next to us! It really doesn't have to be that way. Especially since the person being stalked was very nice. New guests were not received very friendly by “her”! Conclusion: Top cafe, the interaction between the employees can still be improved!
