Very nice breakfast. Recommend reservation.

During a stay in Weimar, we were looking for a place to escape the standard hotel breakfast. We searched around a bit and then quickly reserved a table. We ate a very delicious, unusual panini, followed by an excellent almond croissant. We also had a cuppuccino from the portafilter machine with latte art. We felt very comfortable and would come back anytime.

We’ve been to this place twice already, and it’s absolutely wonderful! 🌟 The omelet with sriracha mayo is a must-try, especially when paired with their sourdough bread — just marvelous, melting in your mouth and unbelievably soft. For desert- basque cheesecake only! Tripple recommended! The coffee is also really good, perfectly rounding out the meal. We loved the sourdough bread so much that we even bought it from the nearby bakery as a little souvenir to enjoy at home for a few more days. Highly recommend this spot — we’ll definitely be coming back!

Friendly staff, good food for fair money. Tried Cardamom Bullar, bread with goat cheese, arugula, walnuts and olive oil, carrot cake, decaf latte. Everything was delicious. True, my carrot cake is tastier. ) Request: please expand the range of herbal and berry teas.

The food is delicious! The staff is also incredibly friendly and accommodating. But guys, why do I have to wait almost 40 minutes for a tiny bowl of scrambled eggs when there are only 15 people in the room? We almost left. We had to wait until almost lunch for the brunch! What a shame! Even though it was delicious, I still wouldn't go back.

Small and cozy. A very family-friendly atmosphere, with a special play den for the kids. Update 2025: The cozy play den has since been moved to a warehouse. A real shame.

We had a wonderful evening. The food was delicious. Without the appetizer, I would have been hungry. Overall, it's not cheap, but it offers the best value in all of Weimar (at least in the center), as they offer unique and organic dishes.

How do they come up with these prices? Absolutely overpriced, the service was friendly but not sufficiently trained for the price level, and even overwhelmed with a slightly larger number of guests. We waited 45 minutes for a simple scrambled egg, and the quality of the food wasn't good either. The egg wasn't cooked through, much too mushy, the ciabatta was a baguette with holes in it, the egg-drop sandwich was a poorly scrambled egg between two slices of toast, and there was no cheese at all, even though the menu says so. What a shame!

We were here for breakfast and would love to come back when we're in Weimar. Very friendly service, delicious food. Everything was perfect for us.

I went to Gretchen's with my daughter for breakfast, and we were completely satisfied. The atmosphere is very cozy, quiet, and relaxed, the service was very friendly and attentive, and we underestimated the amount of food. The sourdough bread was incredibly delicious—but it was really thick, which we had underestimated. Unfortunately, quite a bit of it was left on our plates. Next time, we can order more sparingly and order more. We'll definitely be back—if only to try the cinnamon roll!

Very good food – expensive by Weimar standards, but it's fair to say, as the ingredients are of the finest regional organic quality. The wines are also wonderful. However, when you dine high up on the roof terrace, you have to carry your own food and drinks. For every follow-up order, you have to go all the way down and back up again. By elevator, yes, but still: Given the prices and the few (nice!) tables up there, wouldn't it be possible to hire a student assistant? That would add considerably to the overall experience.

Beautiful bistro. Very good coffee, even better croissant. For lunch, very tasty tomato soup with brilliant pastries. I recommend it. 👍

We were at Gretchen in Weimar on June 20, 2025, and we have only very positive things to say. The ambiance, service, and food were absolutely top-notch. As in fine restaurants, you start off with a bread basket with spread and a free carafe of water. The food doesn't arrive immediately after ordering, but rather after 10 to 20 minutes, which confirms that it's freshly prepared. All in all, we were very satisfied and can recommend it without reservation. We'll be happy to return often. The prices are also reasonable and justified. Thank you for the lovely evening with you.

Unfortunately, Gretchen's has declined considerably. Fish and meat dishes were not available due to a lack of staff (without being informed of this when making reservations). The terrace is self-service, and you have to go to the bar to pay. The food itself was of decent quality, but the portions were very small and expensive. Besides, not every guest wants to be addressed informally by the staff without being asked. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it anymore. Unlike on previous visits, we were alone in the dining room on a Saturday evening, so word seems to have gotten around.

We had reserved a table at 16:30 and wanted something to eat. Unfortunately, they only served cake, so we left. We were actually looking forward to vegan food. Unfortunately, this wasn't indicated on the website.

My daughter and I went to Gretchens for the first time, and we were absolutely thrilled. It was beautiful, delicious, and felt like a vacation with you. Absolutely fantastic. We then went straight to your shop and picked up bread, rolls, and pastries. That was fantastic, too. Such a great concept. We think you're great and would love to come back. You were recommended to us by the "MitBrot&Seele" café in Rudolstadt, as we had asked about your delicious bread.

After a short overnight stay in Weimar, we chose Gretchen's for breakfast. An excellent choice that I highly recommend (even with children)!

The dishes are of outstanding quality and exclusiveness, with sophisticated seasoning. Perfect for anyone looking to dine beyond schnitzel and currywurst. This isn't a standard fare focused solely on minimizing costs and maximizing profits, but rather a concept clearly focused on freshness, expertly prepared dishes, and quality ingredients. Definitely not the same old dish that you unfortunately find almost everywhere these days, but rather a clear commitment to more exclusive tastes. A good address for those with intact palates and sensitive taste buds. The ambience is bright and decorated in pleasant colors, with high-quality, comfortable seating and subtle table decorations. The music during my visit was subtle, pleasant jazz. The service is friendly. The value for money is good. Therefore, it's highly recommended. You won't find a better place in Weimar anytime soon.

We were here for breakfast. Food was okay, but unfortunately the price-performance ratio wasn't right. Personally, I found the breakfast and coffee too expensive. Tasty, but too expensive.

An organic vegetarian restaurant 🍴 here vegetarians get their money's worth, finding something hidden! Have breakfast, lunch or 🌆 dinner, here you will find a nice place to sit in a pleasant atmosphere. Spinach dumplings, broccoli steak or lasagne or a real steak, there's something for everyone here! Service top, and the kitchen too!

Das Essen ist frisch gekocht und sehr lecker. Die Auswahl der Gerichte ist nicht so groß aber dafür ist alles frisch. Man kann ausgesprochen schön auf der Dachterrasse sitzen. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich.

Ein modern, licht eingerichtetes Restaurant mit kleinem Garten und toller Dachterrasse. Karte Schwerpunkt auf vegetarische Gerichte, gibt aber auch Steak. Gebratene Rote Beete als Vorspeise sehr lecker, als Hauptspeise verschiedene Brotsorten mit Käse und Salat auch sehr gut, ebenso der gebratene Broccoli. Gute offene Weine. Service nett und freundlich.

Roasted beetroot was very tasty as a starter, various types of bread with cheese and salad were also very good as a main course, as was the fried broccoli. Good open wines. Very nice restaurant. Located in a small side street. The order went pretty quickly. The cake was very tasty. Chocolate cake and French cheese cake! Hmmmhhh. Setting up for dinner was a bit annoying. Apparently the covering by the male employee wasn't good enough for the female employee. Unfortunately, she announced this loudly in front of us customers. Right next to us! It really doesn't have to be that way. Especially since the person being stalked was very nice. New guests were not received very friendly by “her”! Conclusion: Top cafe, the interaction between the employees can still be improved!

Die Tische standen so dicht nebeneinander das man selbst bei größter Vorsicht daran angestoßen ist. Direkt neben unserem Tisch war eine nichtgekennzeichnete Stufe an der ich abgerutscht und umgeknickt bin. Die Frage nach einem anderen Tisch mit dem Hinweis auf die Gefahrenquelle wurde beantwortet mit „… sie wissen ja jetzt wo die Stufe ist …“

The ambience and service were great 👍 The home-baked bread for breakfast is very tasty - no question about it - but the two slices of bread on the plate were cut far too thick for me - and in comparison, the range of side dishes on our breakfast plates were far too few. Looked lavish thanks to the slices of bread, but was actually a bit spartan. And not everyone likes bread for breakfast. Although of course I understand that “Bread flap” is supposed to be about bread. Personally, it was a bit too one-sided for me. I would still love to come back and can definitely recommend it.

A great place in the heart of Weimar. The two of us were warmly welcomed and were able to sit at the window. The atmosphere was so pleasant that we sat for 4 hours. The egg toast is my personal highlight. The oat cocoa also looks extremely loving. Many thanks to the team. :)

We wanted a small breakfast on Trierer Straße and simply bought some delicious clementine jam there to go with our incredibly delicious croissants. We also got butter and knives. Nothing at all is an issue with the super nice people behind the counter!!! Definitely go!!!

A very nice restaurant to feel good, super nice service, delicious coffee and cake (from the bread flap). My meal (polenta) was a bit underseasoned. But better than too much. I'll definitely go back and try other dishes from the promising menu. :-)

Immediately after our first stay, we decided to have breakfast at Gretchens every morning. No matter what we ate, everything tasted very good. The service was very attentive and very friendly. On our next trip to Weimar, we already know where we will have breakfast. To Gretchen's!!!

Gretchen has remained true to the organic idea with the new BrotKlappe kitchen team. Of course, the focus of the small menu is now on pastries, alongside good ready-made dishes such as spinach dumplings or the only meat dish, venison ragout. There are suppers! Brilliant! The quality has its price. But in the cozy ambience of “Eating like with friends” you feel completely at home.

Wenn alles Plätze besetzt sind und zwei junge Leute gleichzeitig Bestellungen aufnehmen,kalte und warme Getränke zubereiten und ausschenken,Essen servieren, Kuchen schneiden, abräumen und kassieren sollen, kann es nicht funktionieren. Wir haben nach einer halben Stunde den Kuchen bekommen,den Kaffee weitere 10 min später. Wir hatten Zeit,aber andere sind zwischenzeitlich ohne bedient zu werden, gegangen. ...

Our table was lovingly set with a basket full of different, tasty types of bread and carafes of water - a successful first impression. The menu impresses with exceptional, seasonal dishes that are outside the mainstream. The service was attentive, courteous and always ready to fulfill individual requests quickly - no route seemed too far. A really recommended restaurant for anyone looking for something special!

Reservation on a Saturday at 10.30am. There on time. The card was available at 10:55. Then ordered coffee straight away. Waiter: We have a traffic jam at the coffee machine. The food came at 11:30 a.m. and was very good. (Porridge etc.) The waiting time was unacceptable. Too bad.

We still know Gretchen from the previous operators and really appreciated her. Unfortunately, that has changed a lot. We were there again for coffee and we have rarely felt so unwelcome. The greeting was already very rude but we were allowed to sit down. After about 20 minutes at 5:25 p.m. when we were finishing our drinks, the waitress came and instructed us in a very teacher-like manner to put on our jackets and go to the cash register to pay. They had to stock up for dinner now. I've never experienced such an unnecessary eviction (no one was queuing for dinner yet)! Unfortunately, the new team doesn't seem to consider hospitality and friendliness necessary given the high price range. What a shame! You probably won't see us there again and unfortunately we can't recommend Gretchen anymore!

Gretchen's laughed at us from outside, so we went inside. We were probably greeted by the boss, who was counting money at a table, with the unfriendly words “there is no food now”. Even though you call yourself a restaurant! Well, at least two warm drinks then. Chai was also out, so the decision was changed again. Neither the ginger tea, which wasn't tea but a hot water with a few lost pieces of ginger in it, nor the espresso were really good. It was quite expensive for that. So the price-performance ratio is not right here either. Friendly service from guests is also not common here. I think people are oversaturated with tourists and there is no need to be hospitable. Too bad! The ambience and location are very nice. We won't be coming back and won't recommend it!

A real highlight in Weimar! Gretchen's Restaurant is a great restaurant that places a lot of emphasis on organic products and healthy food. We particularly recommend the sourdough bread, which simply tastes fantastic and impresses with its quality! Our recommendations: Starter: The sourdough appetizer – a must! Main course: The bread flap pasta or the miso kohlrabi steak – both dishes impress with their taste and creative implementation. You can taste the freshness and high quality in every bite. Absolute recommendation for everyone who loves healthy and delicious food!

The atmosphere is very Scandinavian, a bit clinical but nice. The map reads very, very well! The sweet parts and the bread are really very good! However, the dishes are not really well seasoned... there is a lack of spice - unfortunately the eggs taste of very little. What a shame... it works much better with the base (bread)! Unfortunately the price/performance doesn't match.

I've wanted to take a look at Gretchen's for a long time. But it's hardly possible without a reservation (online! very easy). And the expectations were of course very high, perhaps too high. There were four of us and we ate porridge, poor knights and an omelet. We were probably expecting taste explosions and our own spontaneous ahh and ohhh. That didn't happen: it was tasty, different somehow but not absolutely amazing. And on Sunday, of course, it was relatively full and the service was understandably stressful. So conclusion: you can do it. Bread from Brotkasten unbeatably delicious!

We were in the restaurant with a child on a weekday because it looked very cozy and was right on the way to the Anna Amalien Library. Since a visit to the library is tied to a specific time, we asked the waitress beforehand how long the dish would take. We were told 10 minutes for a children's portion of pasta with tomato sauce. The restaurant was not full, the seats were assigned to the guests and only then did the waitress apparently come up with the idea of ​​wiping and preparing each table. We were given drinks but from then on we were deliberately ignored. After 25 minutes, the children's portion of pasta still didn't come, and it was difficult to ask the waitress because she preferred to hide behind the counter and look arrogant instead of, for example, clearing the dishes from the neighboring table (the guests had already been gone for 15 minutes) or taking care of them Dedicate to guests. After half an hour we left with a hungry child but no food. We then paid at the counter so that it wouldn't cause too much trouble for the lady! A great ambience doesn't make a great restaurant, what a shame!

Seit der Übernahme des Gretchens durch die Brotklappe ist das Frühstück hier leider keine Empfehlung mehr.Die angebotenen Speisen an sich geschmacklich gut,allerdings für ältere Menschen aufgrund der ca.5cm dicken Brotscheiben mit krosser Kruste nicht händelbar. Für Kinder gibt es keine speziellen Frühstücksangebote ,ausser vielleicht einem Croissant mit Honig für über 6 Euro ! Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist nicht nachvollziehbar.

Pretty little cafe/restaurant, tucked away in a small alley. There were three of us there for breakfast. In addition to the cozy interior, there is a mini garden with 2 tables and a pretty roof terrace, although this is only self-service from the ground floor. Breakfast menu is extensive. Prices in the upper range. 3 people each 1 large cappuccino and 1 breakfast a little over 50€

Trotz Reservierung wurden wir erstmal relativ lange stehen gelassen. Dann dauerte es ewig bis die Karte kam und Getränke/ Essen dauerten noch viel länger. Angeblich sei die Dachterasse sehr voll aber der Gaststraum war leer. Auf Basis der überhörten Gespräche des Personals war eher die Unkoordiniertheit das Problem. Das Essen war an sich gut, aber stolze Preise und trotz angepriesener veganer Speisekarte kaum Optionen.

Ich hatte ein Gericht aus Blumenkohl, das sehr schmackhaft war. Und das Brot davor und dazu war so lecker. Nachtisch war ein Kösekuchen. Mmm. Danke schön an die Küche, danke auch an die freundliche, kompetente Bedienung.

This little restaurant is a true gem. We had breakfast here and absolutely loved it. It was a very unusual breakfast. Very diverse, full of ideas, extremely tasty, prepared with love. It's not cheap, but worth every penny. We felt very comfortable.

My family and I enjoyed a pleasant buffet breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The staff was friendly, warm and professional. He asked us about our needs attentively, and brought a cute wood horse for my daughter, who had a lot of fun with it.

Breakfast at the Gretchen.We had a great breakfast buffet last year and therefore flew into the Gretchen again. The atmosphere is still cozy. We only found out about the carrier change when the service staff told us. Because contrary to expectations, breakfast is now available a la carte. We were also not aware of the primary “vegetarian” orientation. That's why our assessment is certainly more modest. Two of the variants for breakfast, one with cheese and the other with sweet spreads and an egg each plus coffee, tea and an orange juice, came to a total of €40. Unfortunately, the execution and quantity of the food were not sufficient. Butter was added on request, Otherwise we had a disappointing feeling. Things are getting better.
