GOSCH am Kliff in Wenningstedt-Braderup (Sylt)

Overrated is probably the best way to describe it. The food tasted okay, but it was barely lukewarm. The staff wasn't particularly friendly. The price-performance ratio isn't really right; you're basically paying for the name. At least it wasn't too crowded and the view of the sea was really beautiful.

The food is good, the fish soup is a must-try. The atmosphere isn't what it used to be; it's very much geared towards mass production.

Gosch is just like that – great fish, but self-service and a bistro atmosphere. Still, it's iconic, a must-visit.

The tuna sashimi was absolutely awful, an outrage! Barely raw in the middle, extremely salty and preserved, very small pieces. We're used to better here. And this time, in direct comparison to List, the difference was like night and day. It's unbelievable that something like that came out of the kitchen! The mussels were good and consistent, as always. The seafood, shellfish, and fish were at least better seasoned compared to List. Vegan options were missing, which used to be a plus. The ambiance is typical Gosch in Wenningstedt. The staff at the food counter were unfriendly and seemed unwilling to work, and this was in November when it was practically empty... At the bar, well, a tip brings a bit of hospitality instead of just "you're bothering us." We're used to better service here. Even at other times of the year.

Great location, superb view and good food. It's always packed, but that's just how it is.

Dear friends, every year on the island… still going strong… yesterday, like almost every evening, at Gosch in Wenningstedt… food and drinks were great… but guys… we really love dogs… but when the four-legged friend at the next table actually “eats” from the table… and then even lets “sweetheart” lie down on the table… man, that’s just unacceptable!! Delicious bistro for a quick bite – Gosch in Wenningstedt Gosch am Kliff is a great bistro for a quick and tasty meal. The food is fresh, delicious, and varied. A particularly convenient feature is the self-service option, which makes visiting uncomplicated and relaxed. Perfect for a short break or a quick snack while strolling through Wenningstedt!

Unfortunately, the Gosh prawns were lukewarm. But the ocean view made up for it 👏.

I hadn't been there for a few years and was shocked by the conditions. Nothing was cozy, the food was bad, and what was really disappointing was that the aperitifs/drinks were undrinkable. Even a snack bar has friendlier, more personal, and more professional service.

Unfortunately, regarding my question about whether the rösti were gluten-free, I initially received a lack of interest and then a wrong answer (supposedly gluten-free - "what could possibly be in them?"). I was then too unsure. Luckily, another employee intervened and clarified that the rösti did contain gluten. It's a shame, because on Rügen, we received good advice at Gosch despite the restaurant being full. Here at Gosch am Kliff, it wasn't even full...

The food was very good, but it was very busy and noisy during our visit. It's self-service. I liked the Gosch in List better; the ambiance there is more charming.

It's overrated. The food is okay, but I don't think it's that good value for money. The atmosphere is more like a crowded festival tent. It's always crowded, so some people like it to meet people.

It's best only when it's not overcrowded. Especially when it's full, the bad manners of some guests are often particularly evident. Then it's a bargain basement atmosphere. It feels like the prices for some dishes are hyped up like in a fine restaurant, and the atmosphere is that of a fast-food restaurant. This impression might be somewhat different when it's less busy. My recommendation is to try elsewhere, which requires a bit of ingenuity later in the evening on Sylt.

Great self-service restaurant with high-quality food at a reasonable price!

The shrimp with garlic sauce is top-notch. Unfortunately, the octopus was quite tough, so I immediately swapped it for the scallops, which were unfortunately quite gristly. So next time, I'll go for the classic: shrimp, and double the portion :-)

Last year (see pictures), I ordered Thai noodles 20 minutes before closing time – according to the chefs, it was "the portion of the year" with all the leftover grilled shrimp. Simply delicious! The shop is very nice from the outside, the food is consistently delicious, and many of the staff are really friendly. It's often difficult to get a seat, but the wait is definitely worth it. I'll always be back at Gosch Sylt!

Squid rings with 60% breading. What happened to Gosch? Our landlord writes in his guest book: The formerly great Gosch is unfortunately becoming increasingly expensive and worse. The staff is often unfriendly and even rude. List, where the old man is still there, is just like it used to be.

Very busy at the beginning of the fall break, we waited a long time for a free table... It felt like there was less and less on our plates for more and more money. "Love" was a bit lacking. The layout with different stations made eating together impossible. The location, of course, was top-notch.

There's nothing to criticize in terms of taste, just good, the ambiance is like a chip shop, the order is puke-worthy... from left to right and right to left, it could be better. It didn't get any better on the second day, but it could have been. Maybe those in charge should take a look at the reviews.

For us, the best Gosch restaurant on Sylt. Very tasty food (the menu differs considerably from other restaurants in some places) and, in some cases, a fantastic view of the sea. Accordingly, it's always quite busy, and you sometimes have to wait a bit for a table. I've had two noodle dishes so far, and both were excellent (my favorite is the Thai noodles with salmon). My wife is an absolute fan of the Gosch prawns (which you can find at every Gosch restaurant, of course), but she also had a very tasty dish from the specials menu. There's also a large selection of different drinks (we mostly had white wine). The staff was always friendly, and despite the restaurant being full, our dishes were always prepared quickly. Overall, a clear recommendation.

A very modern building right on the cliff. A typical self-service Gosch restaurant. Unfortunately, it's completely overcrowded and incredibly loud. The food is of good quality. The interior is very cramped. Fortunately, there are also some outdoor seating areas.

The best gosch. A unique location. The menu is creative and innovative. There are classics as well as new ones to discover. There are also well-thought-out vegetarian and vegan dishes. The oven-baked salmon is a dream. Highly recommended!

The restaurant lives by its name "Gosch" - see and be seen! The quality of the food has declined over the years. It's annoying that you sometimes have to queue at three different stations to get all the dishes you want. After an hour of waiting at three stations, I had all the dishes I wanted.

It's a real party place 🐻. Great place, extensive menu and drinks list (extensive wine selection), and fast service. Okay value for money for Sylt 😃

Food with a great view. Gosch specializes in fish dishes, very tasty, never disappointed. Unfortunately, the cliff location is often very crowded and therefore noisy.

The price/performance ratio is good. Considering that more food is sold than probably anywhere else, the food tastes good. I had a potato with quark and crayfish, and the potato sat warm for far too long; it didn't taste good at all, and it was very small.

Beautiful location, superb setting. They serve delicious fish, various wines, and even children's dishes. Non-fish eaters and vegetarians will also find something to their liking here.

It was supposed to be fried chicken... simply breaded chicken breast fillet came on the plate along with lukewarm and very greasy fried potatoes; unseasoned to boot.... The ambiance is terrible... order food on the left or right, or in the middle... oh... drinks somewhere else entirely... overall loud and very hectic, coupled with less than excellent food... a shame, Gosch used to be a good place... unfortunately, not anymore...

Here, the evening rush at sunset is a ritual. Gosch is a quality venue. But the crowds also present a special challenge. You just have to experience it once.

What a shame! If you prefer a train station atmosphere, this is the place for you. The Sylter Pannfisch (sautéed fish) was satisfyingly tasty, carelessly slapped together on a plate, so that the fried potatoes were soggy with the sauce, unless they had been soaked in fat first. The background noise was unbearably loud, making conversation impossible. Self-service! Tables weren't wiped down. It was very drafty, so you had to sit with your jackets on benches and chairs without backs. The charm of a 70s canteen. No, that's not what I'd call Gosch quality, and I've already experienced it, too bad! But there are other restaurants on Sylt!

We always loved going to Gosch. Traditionally, we head straight to the cliff after arriving on Sylt and enjoy a fish sandwich and fried fish outside at sunset, accompanied by a bottle of rosé. Wonderful! The sandwiches were still delicious in May, but the fried fish was unfortunately a huge disappointment: frozen fish. And that at Gosch?! We're used to fried fish differently; it was always great, but this small, rectangular, pre-breaded piece of 'fish' (that's what it looked like to us) was not only almost tasteless, it was also ridiculously expensive. We'll break with tradition next year and instead enjoy the amazing fish soup at the competitor's. Sorry for the criticism, but that's not how we know Gosch. PS: The lady at the fish sandwich counter was unfortunately very unfriendly, and we even witnessed a verbal skirmish among the employees. What's going on?

We were there several evenings in July. Obviously, it's not a restaurant, but more of a snack bar. It's self-service, and you have to find a table afterwards. But it has its charm and is fun. Enjoying the sunset with a plate of fish and a dry white wine.

The food is delicious. You can sit outside and look out at the sea. It's self-service. There are plenty of places to sit. It gets very busy in the evenings, so you have to be lucky to get a seat. If you want to sit outside, you can also get a blanket. Highly recommended.

Something must have gone wrong. After eating herring with gravy and fried potatoes, the holiday was ruined. That wasn't what you'd expect at GOSCH. There was no trace of friendliness.

Too hectic, too big, too loud for me. September 2025 Still true, but I like it better than the Bootshalle in List. There, for example, I found crab sandwiches with a fried egg for €24.50. Way overpriced. Crabs were hidden under the fried egg.

Incredible service despite self-service! The service at GOSCH in Wenningstedt this afternoon on Sylt at the inside bar is beyond words – a former ski jumper with class!👍 The person who seemed to have worked there for years was working there for the first day today, and we were speechless! An employee from Austria (Chris) had only been on the island for 7 days – we were completely impressed and speechless when we heard that from him and his dialect! 😂 He easily served 4 to 7 customers at once in the long line at both self-service checkouts! He was so entertaining, funny, and lightning-fast, and also the only one who constantly cleans the bar and picks up his colleagues' trash from the floor while he pulls beer, pours wine, or makes coffee!!! Huge praise and heartfelt thanks for letting us watch such a professional – ask for the Austrian – we've never experienced anything faster, cleaner, or more charming!!! WE'LL BE AGAIN!

Tonight, an Austrian was working at the bar. He was amazing in terms of friendliness, attentiveness, and speed. This is how the restaurant business makes guests happy. 6 out of 5 🌟. I wanted to buy him a drink. He declined, of course, during working hours. I'd gladly come back, just for the service. 😄

I ordered a portion of Thai noodles today, September 10, 2025, at 8:55 p.m. The restaurant officially closes at 9:00 p.m. After politely asking at the counter, I was rudely told that there was nothing left to eat. After the cook in the background rudely asked me what I wanted, I explained that it was five minutes before closing time and I would like a portion of Thai noodles. After a long discussion with the surrounding employees, he finally prepared them. We were sitting outside at the time. I ate my portion of Thai noodles there. The waiter in the outside area then explained to me that all the chairs outside would be cleared away at 9:15 p.m. After he almost ripped the chair out from under me, I decided not to eat anything else in this restaurant.

I find the ambiance nicer than in List (too big). The quality is just as good.

A great place if you want to combine dinner at a fast-food restaurant with watching the beautiful sunsets. Of course, they also offer delicious fish sandwiches and a variety of drinks. On Saturdays, there's even a trumpet duo playing to accompany the setting sun – a fantastic atmosphere.

Great atmosphere, food always delicious, and reasonably priced. You can't go wrong here.

I have been on Sylt for decades and always return to Wenningstedt and this time I was there very early and I was able to observe how a small man who turned out to be so incredibly nice and when I told him he must be the soul of the house he was happy and I asked him his name he looked at me smiling and said that his name is Rainer like 😄 nice that there are still such wonderful people in the catering industry, five stars for Rainer

The view is fantastic, the food is good, but self-service is sometimes very inconvenient, as some counters are unmanned and you can't place your orders in one place.

"Fast food" - food like anywhere else at Gosch. Often crowded in nice weather. What's special is that the restaurant is located directly on the sea.

I'm very disappointed with the shrimp at Gosch in Wenningstedt. In the past, the shrimp were always the reason we'd quickly stop by Gosch for lunch. Our shrimp had obviously been sitting in the pan for a long time; they were hard and rubbery. Not at all fresh and juicy, as they should be. Unfortunately, we noticed this very negatively on our last visit to Wenningstedt. We complained about the shrimp. Instead of frying new shrimp, the shrimp that had previously been in the pan with ours were fried again. The result: dry, rubbery, hard, and now fried again, which made them even drier. It's a shame; we won't be trying this again in Wenningstedt. The service staff aren't what they used to be either. Three men stood close together, talking in a foreign language so loudly that it disturbed the customers. They didn't even step aside when you wanted to pass by with your food. My tip: Gosch in List is worlds better in terms of cuisine. Wenningstedt has a great view and you can enjoy a drink, but for dinner, we'll only go to List!

Very friendly staff :) We felt at home. The fish was a bit fatty but still delicious as always! They also have several vegan options, which is remarkable (pasta, burgers, celery with falafel). There's something for everyone :))

The restaurant is extremely busy, yet you can usually get a table quickly. The staff are always very attentive and friendly.

Well, it was definitely better. The baked potato has definitely seen better days, and sending something like that out is actually a no-go. If it hadn't been so difficult to bring the plate back to the front due to the crowd, I definitely would have done it. Yes, it's mass processing, but at Gosch in List it works, and such quality would never end up on the guests' tables. The drinks bar also leaves a lot to be desired. It's a shame that at the end of the season, the gentlemen don't know what's on offer. I understand a lot of things, and the staff really delivers top-notch service every day; I don't want to doubt that. But you also have to realize that you're paying a lot of money, for self-service, mind you, and it's annoying when there's still a lot of room for improvement.

Gosch am Kliff is simply amazing. The food, the atmosphere, and later, the walk straight to the beach.

It's incredibly crowded in the evenings. Since you can't make reservations and there's no assigned seating, guests are crammed into the aisles, and it's incredibly loud. It's not a relaxed atmosphere. Not again!

Very tasty food. Prices are fair.
