Gernsemer Fährhaus in Gernsheim

We've been here several times, but definitely the last time. For two ferry schnitzels and two drinks 41 euros is already steep and it wasn't anything special. The schnitzel was good but not particularly big and the fries, well, the whole thing without salad. The service was friendly but somehow haphazard and it took forever before we were even served.

Horrible food, rarely eaten so badly. We had ordered onion cake and when it arrived it was burnt black. Information from the waiter "if it tastes burnt, call me again"..🥴that's not possible...unfortunately I have to click a star It's a disgrace to treat the guests like that...unfortunately you have to click on a star to rate it

You sit directly on the Rhine. Very pleasant, even on warm days. We just took a short break here and ate a little something. We'd love to come back.

Miserable service for years. Unmotivated employees, something is always missing because someone supposedly forgot to order something. You wait longer to cash out than to place your order. Today was definitely my last visit there, I've tried again and again over the last few years.

Cooked cheese from your own production is not smooth and supple. As we all know, the eye eats with us. 😊 The pickled onions look very strange. Gray in a white sauce... that's different. Bread from the bag, mmh...actually a nice farmer's bread is part of it. Everything can still be improved. ☺️ The staff is friendly and you'll be happy to come back to the excursion restaurant.

Been there today. We sat down at a table where others had seen before, and it was clear that the table had to be cleared first, which was ok. After 20 minutes of waiting, service came. Cleared the table. I just wanted to order and he said we should wait. Went and took other orders that came after us, came back at some point because we called. I asked him to clean the table because it was very dirty. And thought he was finally taking our order. His answer was that cleaning the table would still take some time! Sit down at a clean table at night. 🤔 We wanted to enjoy the view there and just drink a coffee. Unfortunately we didn't get around to it. The one star is for the beautiful view that we couldn't enjoy.

Delicious food and great beer. Lovely to sit next to the river Rhein and see the ferry commute.

First we waited 20 minutes for service, then again for the drinks. There were 6 of us, 5 of whom got their food together, one was forgotten and had to eat alone. The food itself wasn't the burner, hunger drove it down. Service unfriendly and slow, prefer to stand at the counter and chat. We definitely won't be coming back, even though the location itself is very nice. Too bad.....

Great location and delicious food. Live music during the summer when there is good weather. My only complaint was the slow service - took about an hour to order food. Understaffed but they were doing their best! Absolutely still worth visiting the restaurant

Nice restaurant, located directly on the Rhine. Nice beer garden. But unfortunately the cars are very loud. The waiter could be a little friendlier to the guests. The drinks were very warm and not chilled. I had eaten a Fährhaus schnitzel that was very cold and dry. The fried potatoes were not crispy and lacked seasoning. Too bad.

You have to wait forever until you are served. It takes even longer when paying. Unfortunately, everything is better organized opposite.

Nice garden restaurant, but I think you could do more with it. 😉

Wir haben uns das schön gelegene Lokal nach den Umgestaltungsarbeiten an den Aussenanlagen angeschaut. Die Baustelle ist noch nicht ganz fertig aber im Bereich der Gaststätte, des Biergartens ist alles schon hergerichtet. Ein Teil ist nun gepflastert, der Rest geschottert. Die meisten Tische sind 4-er Biergartentische. Zahlreiche Sonnenschirme sorgen für Schatten aber schaffen es nicht alle Tische abzudecken. Der schöne alte Baum ist leider weg, es sind neue gepflanzt, die müssen aber erst noch wachsen und eine Krone entwickeln. Es gibt nun auch einen Biergartenbereich in Richtung der Stadt. Der freie Blick vorne auf den Rhein ist derzeit leider durch Baggerarbeiten gestört. Derzeit gilt eine kleine Sommerkarte, die aber die meisten beliebten Gerichte abdeckt. Es ist auch was veganes und einiges an vegetarischem Essen dabei. Der Service war fix und sehr nett, die winzige Küche leistet gute und schnelle Arbeit, insbesondere wenn man weiss, dass die Küche ja nicht grösser geworden ist aber der Aussenbereich um fast das doppelte gewachsen ist. Im Inneren des Lokals kann man unten gemütlich sitzen, es gibt auch einen Raum unter dem Dach, leider mit wenigen Fenstern. Die Toiletten unten sind leider nicht besonders schön, das sei aber auch der Tatsache geschuldet, dass sie mehrmals im Jahr unter Wasser stehen bei Hochwasser. Das Fährhaus liegt nämlich ausserhalb der eingedeichten Zone der Gemeinde. Wir hatten die Salate und das Fährfrauschnitzel. Es ist mit Kochkäse und wahlweise Bratkartoffeln oder Pommes Frites. Die Bratkartoffeln waren ohne Speck und einige waren schon sehr dunkel. Man vermutet eine grosse Pfanne, in die immer nachgefüllt wird. Mit Speck würde es besser schmecken aber ich vermute das sei den Veganern und Vegetariern geschuldet. Das ist auch völlig in Ordnung, dann kann man aber auf der Karte auch „Vegan“ daneben schreiben. Die Schnitzel waren mal etwas grösser, an Salatbeilage gab es ein grünes Salatblatt und eine Scheibe wässrige Tomate, das hätte ein klein bissel mehr sein können und der Kochkäse auch einen kleinen Schlag mehr. Soweit die Kritik, die Lage ist sehr schön, ausser den Toiletten, die etwas gelitten haben und unangenehm rochen war auch alles blitzblank und sauber. Das Personal war durchweg sehr freundlich und man hatte auch Verständnis dafür, dass wir aufgrund der Sonne Schatten suchend umgezogen sind. Insgesamt ist es dann auch einen Euro mehr wert bei den Preisen, das ist okay. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Our favorite place at Gernsheim Harbor! Delicious food, good value for money combined with top service - Vanessa and Maxim rock the shop and are always in a good mood, even when it gets busy. Keep it up!

Your food was very nice, great praise for the cook, she is the best, although there was a lot going on, everything was great, but it would be better if two people served. There was a lot going on in the morning.

Nice to sit by the Rhine, the cloudy beer was delicious. Coffee and cake are pretty standard, but that's okay too.

A place we always enjoy coming to. Even the current construction work doesn't bother us. The food was delicious again and our friendliness was great.

The ambience has changed a lot for the better since the outside area was redesigned. As far as service is concerned, there is still “a lot of room for improvement” with a few operations. No wonder, because unfortunately you never see a boss whose interest is in a well-functioning restaurant... and the tables are still not wiped down.

Small deductions for the ambience because a view of the Rhine was lost due to construction work. The service was still OK. “Service Cubes” that were previously unknown to us left something to be desired in terms of function or service. Despite pressing "Service" we had to wave 3 times until someone from the service was finally at the table. An app-based ordering is impossible despite an application, this failed partly due to insecure access and partly due to free WiFi, which I take for granted for this offer. That leaves the food: with the minimalist menu I expect quality. The fried potatoes served with the Fährmannschnitzel were swimming in oil. The schnitzel was tender but due to the short waiting time it was definitely not freshly breaded but rather frozen. A pepper mill that we wanted wasn't available at first, but was provided shortly before the end of the meal. Drinks were not included on the minimalist menu. The only plus I can see is the price, which has not been increased significantly despite Ukraine and Corona.

Wanted to have a nice drink in the evening. When we asked for a drinks menu, we were only rudely told that there wasn't one. We waited over 25 minutes for the second order. And that's just for a few beers. Before that you die of thirst

You are not served and when you ask for a drinks menu you are told in an extremely unfriendly manner that there are none and that we should just order. But it was all interesting because we've never experienced anything like that. And there was no orange in our Aperol, even though the guests in front of us had one :( Update: a friend of ours came over and ordered the menu that actually had drinks on it. We are confused. Update 2: Aperol has a lemon in it

Too bad you can't pay with a payment card, I'm a truck driver CE and had to pay €44 to transfer, I think this is in 2024 Too bad you can only pay in cash

The service is always great, the food is always good, and it's best when Anne is in the kitchen. The atmosphere is very nice and rustic... Hence the deserved 5 stars.....

Delicious food, nice service, but she was overwhelmed. There were simply not enough staff on site. The construction site is a bit disruptive at the moment, but that too will be gone at some point...

This is a nice meeting place in Gernsheim am Rhein. Their sausages, sandwiches and beverages are great after riding the bicycle for an hour or more going thru the fields filled with wild birds, farms, horses grazing and nice views of the Bergstrasse.

Currently with construction sites, the port is being changed 🤔 Still a place to relax. I always look forward to the fish sandwiches or the dishes from the menu. The service is top 👍 And Helene is still in action 😉

A visit to the Fährstübchen Gernsheim is recommended for groups or people who want to have a cold drink. When the weather is nice, the ambience is absolutely beautiful, despite there being a construction site in front of the restaurant. The taste of the food is ok, but the increased price is in no way justified by the quality of the food.

We had a very good meatloaf roll and a sausage salad that was second to none!!! 👍👍😋😋 Service very friendly and attentive 👍👍👍

Fried potatoes were actually fried potato salad. The food came but no cutlery. Drinks were also at the lowest level. Never had such a bad meal.

The Fährhaus is definitely one of our favorite places and has been for many years. If you can sit outside, we just like to visit a place. The beer garden invites you to linger and you have a direct view of the water. What we've noticed recently is the constantly changing staff. Some are very friendly and others don't care about the guests. Unfortunately, that's not so nice. The menu is very clear, but to our taste. The food here is really good too. It was our first time having breakfast and unfortunately I can't recommend it at all. There's still room for improvement here... Cheaper packaged sausage and cheese and jam from plastic containers. Not really good and not visually nice to look at either. Doesn't fit at all with dinner and the rest of the menu. Over the last two years, I've missed a little more attention to detail and to the guests here. Unfortunately, things used to be very different. And a little more order in the guest room would also be very nice. Nevertheless, we enjoy coming here. Maybe this review will find the right way to change something again. 😌 Unfortunately, prices have gone up extremely this year.

Gute Deutsche Küche in angenehmer Atmosphäre. Essen & Bier wie immer lecker. Kenn ich im Fährhaus auch nicht anders. Leider haben die Portionsgrössen etwas nachgelassen, so dass ich zwar überhungrig hin, aber nicht gesättigt raus bin. Das ist mir das erste Mal hier passiert und bei dem Rest der Gesellschaft sahen die Portionen ähnlich aus. Preise logischerweise im Vergleich zum letzten Besuch etwas angezogen (das hat mich im Vergleich weniger gestört wie das - man verzeihe mir den Ausdruck - Kinderschnitzel). Ambiente is überragend - einfach urgemütlich. Die Bedienungen sind zwar auf Zack, kommen aber grad am Wochenende oftmals nicht hinterher... Nichtsdestotrotz kann ich das Fährhaus bedenkenlos weiterempfehlen. Werde auch weiterherkommen

Es war unser erster Besuch, auf anraten, einer Feier mit 15 Pers. Anfang Dez.23 dort. Das Kochkäsesschnitzel war an diesem Tag leider unterirdisch. Die Gruppe sah auch nicht zufrieden mit ihrem essen. Auch das Geflügelschnitzel war sehr trocken und einseitig verbrannt.(gesagt bekommen) Das Schnitzel hatte wohl eine Senfmarinade? (hat mit dem Kochkäse total sauer geschmeckt und die Fleischqualität war mies. (grau, zusammenhangslos, versehnt) Noch dazu der Kochkäse wurde wohl im Salamander "überbacken", er war total flüssig unter der Puddinghaut ! Die Bratkartoffeln waren kalt und latschig. (Erst falsch Pommes dazu bekomen,reklamiert, 2 min später die Bratkartoffel?!? Sorry ungeniesbar. Schade für den ersten Eindruck. Das Servicepersonal war net. Hoffentl. Für die Zukunft besser. Fischermäßig aufgezogen, sehr urig. supergute rheinhessische SCHNAPS-Auswahl (preislich einwandfrei günstig), Kuchen, und auch klassisches Essen

Sehr gutes Essen, Backfisch sehr lecker zubereitet . Kartoffelsalat lecker, und die Remoulade dazu perfekt. Sehr nette Bedienung , versucht alle Wünsche zu erfüllen.

Ein wirklich schönes Lokal. Das Essen ist sehr gut, die Bedienung sehr nett. Zrotz der vollen Tische durfte unser Hund mit rein. Einfach empfehlenswert.

Einfach super. Sehr nettes, zuvorkommendes Personal. Super Ambiente und die Essensportionen riesig. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Wir saßen draußen und gaben eine halbe Stunde auf eine Tasse Kaffee gewartet. Der kam dann lauwarm und dünn, Milch habe ich selber geholt.

Z.Zt. am Rande einer Baustelle, Ansonsten gerne gewählter Stop zur stärkung... Leider wird kein großer Wert auf die Reihenfolge, nach der z.B. "Wünsche" nach Bezahlen abgearbeitet werden - Das empfinde ich als Respektlos, dem Kunden gegenüber. Ansonsten gerne gesehenes Treiben rund um die Fähre "Helene" ...

Tolles Lokal,top Lage, wunderschöner Biergarten mit Blick auf den Rhein. Jeden Tag geöffnet. Do. + Fr. gibt es zusätzlich Fisch auf der Karte. Fährmann bzw. Fährfrauschnitzel sind zu empfehlen. Service freundlich aber manchmal etwas überfordert. Parkplätze genügend vorhanden

Eine super Lage am Rhein hat das Gernsemer Fährhaus. Sehr freundliches Personal, gutes Preis Leistung Verhältnis. Das Essen ist vorzüglich und reichlich. Ob drinnen oder draußen, sehr schönes Ambiente. Dort kann man öfter essen gehen.

This was a ad hoc solution. Sitting in a Regional Train to Mannheim without target. Had a talk with a guy from Gernsheim and he told me to walk down to the Rhein (river) side and visit "The Gernsheimer Fährhaus". The location is at a corner, close to a Ferry with a great riverside view. Had a Pfungstädter Pils. Food was somehow special. A Schnitzel topped woth a so called "Kochkäse" means Cooked Cheese. Try it, it's better the thought!

Tolle Aussicht auf den Rhein und den regen Bikerbetrieb rund um die Fähre. Extrem leckeres Fährmann-Schnitzel. Leider wird essen und trinken seit 2022 schmerzhaft teurer 🤨
