Gernsemer Fährhaus in Gernsheim

A very nice little inn. We always enjoy coming here. Friendly staff and delicious food.

Luckily, this little inn was there. The Fährhaus is located right on the Rhine (a beautiful view in good weather). With the evening approaching and the temperatures dropping, I went inside. The atmosphere was very cozy and truly wonderful. I initially ordered a schnitzel with Kochkäse (a type of German cheese spread), but the cheese (which I had asked about beforehand) was very, very strong. However, this wasn't a problem, and they replaced the schnitzel without any trouble. The food was fantastic! The schnitzel was fresh and truly one of the best I've ever eaten. The breading was perfect. The fries were excellent, and then there was a portion of potato salad (with oil and vinegar dressing), which was really delicious! For dessert, there was an apple pie with vanilla sauce. The service was truly attentive and friendly. Towards the end, though, I was completely forgotten. If it weren't so far away, I would come back again and again. But if I'm ever in the area again, I'll gladly return!

Lately, Saturdays have been steak days. I had entrecôte. Cooked to perfection and super tender. I had Fährmannschnitzel, and that was perfect, too.

The location is really chic and, above all, not noisy, so you can have a good conversation. The waitress was also super friendly. However, the portions were much too small for me. I left hungry, which is a shame.

A top biker address, always an experience,

Not recommended..waited half an hour for service then waited another half hour for the drinks and then one of the 2 drinks ordered was wrong...actually wanted to have a warm lunch but since the service was late there were only cold dishes.

The seating is lovely, overlooking the Rhine, the ferry, and the harbor in Gernsheim. The service was a bit slow, but the food was very good. A "real" schnitzel, pan-fried, with a slice of bacon, a fried egg, and fried potatoes or French fries. Very tasty and plentiful.

Fair price for two coffees with a view of the water

Green sauce, three half eggs, and fried potatoes with a blackcurrant spritzer came to €22.10. My friends had all their meat dishes, some with an alcoholic beverage, and paid €2-3 less. The ratio is completely wrong! Since when does a spritzer cost more than a large beer, and are meat dishes cheaper than green sauce with three half eggs?

I was walking along the Rhine with my young son and, as a pregnant woman, I had a huge craving for an apple spritzer. Since we were nearby anyway, we went to the Gernsemer Fährhaus. The beer garden outside was very crowded, so I wanted to quickly get a drink inside – just a takeaway apple spritzer, which I would have paid for immediately. To my complete incomprehension, the wait staff told me that this wasn't possible because the beer garden was currently serving. Even when I explained that I was pregnant and just wanted a quick drink, I was turned away. For me as a guest – and especially in my situation – this was completely incomprehensible and, to be honest, very disappointing. It would have actually been a relief for the waitress if I had brought my own drink and paid for it, without taking up a seat or causing extra work. Instead, I was sternly and unfriendly refused – no flexibility, no consideration, no understanding. Especially at such a beautiful location on the Rhine, where many people pass by, a friendly, service-oriented approach would be important. Instead, I felt brushed off and completely unwelcome. This kind of behavior is a real shame for this place – because the place actually has much more potential.

I can definitely recommend the Fährhaus. The food was delicious and the prices were absolutely fair. The service was very polite and courteous. We'd be happy to come back.

The menu wasn't up to date, and we weren't told about it until we ordered. So we didn't eat anything. The waitress, unfortunately not in our area, was very friendly and attentive. The waitress in our area had a lot of room for improvement in terms of friendliness, attentiveness, and attentiveness.

Great atmosphere, but the service is absolutely terrible! It really doesn't matter when you get there; you just wait and wait and wait. You have to get your own drinks and food there, but I don't have to worry about bad service. Update:! 8/11/25 I tried again, but the service is still terrible. The awnings are really great and it's a great place to sit, but the service is terrible! Simply a shame.

Never waited so long. The atmosphere was nice, but that was it. We didn't order anything for the second time. We tried it a year later, and the same thing happened. It just doesn't make sense here.

We were here a year ago for a bite to eat and a relaxing meal. The location is really nice – unfortunately, the service was very poor and the wait times were extremely long. Today we wanted to give it a second chance, but unfortunately, the result was the same: long waits and hardly any attention from the staff. Several guests got up and left because no one showed up. It's a shame that such a beautiful location has lost so much quality due to poor planning and organization.

The Gernsheim ferry is a worthwhile spot to unwind a bit on the Rhine when the weather's nice. Take a stroll along the water, enjoy a snack, or simply watch the boats. Wonderfully relaxing.

Incredibly delicious food. A limited menu, but absolutely delicious, tastes like grandma's home-made food! The staff is super friendly, and the beautiful location on the Rhine makes the atmosphere all the more wonderful. Unfortunately, only cash payments are accepted, but that's the worst of it.

Even if I only had a coffee and a meatloaf sandwich. The coffee was very good. And the sandwich was delicious. What's absolutely worth mentioning, though, was the very friendly, helpful young waitress. Since my smartphone serves as my speedometer on my bike tour, I was given a free charging cycle. This brought my speedometer back online, and I was able to continue my tour. Thanks again, 🫶 for that.

Well, so-so. Had the currywurst with fries. A matter of taste! I expected better.

The food was mixed. The schnitzel was good. The fries were excellent. The beer was also top-notch, but the green sauce? I have no idea. One male waitress was so unfriendly that only her family kept me waiting. One woman kept us waiting, even while paying, for 45 minutes before I went in. Only one woman was nice and quick. We've only been there once, but I think the experience will keep us there.

Unfortunately, we're giving this place 0 stars. The staff are extremely unfriendly; they don't pay any attention to guests' requests and only come to the table after about 25 minutes, even though there isn't even a drink sign. In between, they just stand around and stare into space. The food is like something you'd get from a kiosk, which is okay, but you don't need it. We waited 20 minutes for our drink (even though it wasn't busy!). It's nice to sit there, but I wouldn't recommend eating there. !! We also had to wait half an hour for our bill! The waitress stomped around and completely forgot about it, even though, as I said, it wasn't busy (AT ALL!). I'm completely stunned; I've rarely experienced such poor service.

The setting is nice, the rest isn't so good. The schnitzel is pressed meat, thickly breaded and dry, the fried potatoes are fried potatoes in plenty of fat, the fried egg is still half runny, and the wait is VERY long...The only thing that's nice is the setting by the water.

We waited almost an hour; one meal was even forgotten, and the food was almost cold. The waitress was completely overwhelmed and often overlooked us. I would recommend it for a drink, but unfortunately not for a meal, which is a shame.

Lovely place and nice service, came there by chance, ordered breakfast and stayed for lunch. One and only complaint is that the Wi-Fi is poor (had a call, staff was kind enough to let me use a room upstairs and speak in relative privacy).

The service was completely overwhelmed. Drinks took 20 minutes, and the food took 50 minutes for two people. The waiters had no idea what was going on. A shame. Better to go to the Fährstübchen.

It feels like a vacation here. The evening sun gently sets over the Rhine, and life invites you to enjoy yourself. A magical atmosphere, delicious food, friendly guests, attentive service, and the feeling you want to stay because this evening couldn't get any better, except with your loved one, if they aren't already sitting next to you, melting away.

We visited this snack bar for a quick snack and were very satisfied. The currywurst was truly delicious and just the thing for a quick snack. The staff were very friendly. A great place for a simple and tasty snack. Highly recommended if you need something tasty to eat on the go!

Incredibly bad food, but a beautiful view. Worst cooked cheese schnitzel ever. Even the fries are better at the snack bar. The food arrived half-warm. But the olives are good, hence 2 stars for the food. Unfortunately, the ambiance is the only thing worth it, so it's better to have a drink rather than eat.

I am very disappointed; the ferry house has been built over so that no biker can ride there on their motorcycles anymore. The bikers brought you the money, not those who sit over a coffee for half a day. Shame on you.

You sit here with a beautiful view of the ferry and the Rhine. The food is ok as usual, but unfortunately the schnitzel and fried fish were a bit dry and the fish was no longer hot. Too bad.

The beer is top notch. That's why I like being here in the summer. The food is average. I would most likely recommend the fish sandwiches. The prices are rather high for other dishes. Unfortunately, the waitresses are often overwhelmed in the summer and I can only confirm other reviews. It's a shame, because it could be better and the restaurant couldn't be topped.

If you want to stay in Gernsheim am Rhein, Gernsemer Fährhaus is a good place to visit as an excursion destination. The freshly tapped Hefeweizen with a delicious special meat cheese roll, crispy rolls and delicious 😋 meat cheese. Also the cooked cheese schnitzel with cabbage and fries. A visit and excursion here is definitely worth it 😀👌✅😉

Das Lokal verdient nicht mal einen Punkt, aber man muss ja was angeben. Super unfreundlich, orientierungslos, überfordert und nicht mal einen Plan von dem, was sie machen. Halbe Stunde warten, bis man bestellen kann, dann muss man nach 15 Minuten nachfragen, wann die Getränke kommen und das Essen kam überhaupt nicht, obwohl fremde Menschen am selben Tisch nach uns bestellt haben. Keiner hat da eine Ahnung von seinem Job. Unter aller sau dort. Gegenüber bekommt man viel schneller sein Essen, auch wenn 40 Leute in der Schlange vor einem stehen. Werde dieses Lokal nicht mehr besuchen.

Für eine Tischreservierung mußten wir unnötige persönliche Daten preisgeben. Trotzdem besuchten wir das Ausflugslokal am Rhein mit Freude. Es gab am Donnerstag Backfisch paniert mit Bratkartoffeln und Remouladensauce. Gekonnt und mit viel Geschmack war Fisch und Kartoffeln zubereitet. Der Aufenthalt war sehr angenehm. Die Bedienung flott und freundlich. Wir mußten bar bezahlen, Kartenzahlung war nicht möglich.

We visited the Fährhaus Gernsheim!! A beer in the beer garden right on the Rhine in the sunshine!! The Rhine promenade has been newly renovated and is car-free!! Friendly and courteous service! Very nice seating!! The location is unbeatable in nice weather!! We'll be back....

The ambience and the food is ok. But the service was totally unfriendly. If you ask for a drinks menu, the answer is "We don't have it. What do you want?" How am I supposed to know what I can order if I don't know what's on offer. You don't know prices either. You should scan the QR code and you would have the menu. Yes, you have that. But unfortunately only food, no drinks.

A superbly located little restaurant on the Rhine, right by the ferry. When the weather's nice, it's ideal for sitting outside and enjoying the view of the Rhine. We ordered the bratwurst with curry sauce and fries. Unfortunately, the curry sauce wasn't to our taste at all, and the fries tasted very soft and watery. Perhaps we picked the wrong day. The staff were very stressed and out of breath. It's a real shame that so little effort is put into this place.

Quaint dining room, friendly service, food was okay, the time of day outside when you went in was only €14.90, on the bill it was €15.90, when you looked at the tag you could see that it had been poorly wiped down and changed. Price-performance isn't really right. Too bad

I've been thinking for five days now whether I should write a one star review or not. But I just can't help it. It's not the first time we've had such bad food. The waitresses are completely overwhelmed. One bar table was overfilled with around 20 empty bottles and no one cared about it. The pictures here show my sausage salad after I've eaten about half of it. The first half was a cucumber salad with some sausage but the rest was just cucumber salad with half an onion, which isn't worth the money. This clearly shows how you can scare away guests.

Dann hatten die uns ins Obergeschoss gebracht. Und es käme gleich jemand. Nach 15 Minuten später kam immer noch niemand. Da haben wir nochmal nachgefragt. Dann hieß es kommt gleich jemand. Nach einer halben Stunde sind wir gegangen. Das Personal war unfreundlich und es kam auch keine Entschuldigung

I use to love coming to this place with my husband as it has a wonderful view to the river rhine in the summer and we liked the place and where satisfied with the service and food.Sadly since the place expanded the service has been lacking,(due to a shortage of staff,I guess) Some of the waiters can´t manage to remain friendly,when asked to order or pay. Today both the toilets where blocked and as I wanted to mention it, they simply couldn´t be bothered to listen nor to take a booking for a table .In one way I feel sorry in another way ignored and wouldn´t recomend the place like before.-Hopefully this will change again for the better.

Nice newly renovated beer garden, unfortunately no hot food available, although the signs advertised dishes and the chef was cooking (still lunchtime). The waiter outside ignored the table for a long time and avoided eye contact. When several of us wanted to order inside, we were sent out again and had to wait again. No menu.

Christmas Day: In the afternoon, entry into the restaurant, well occupied, tables full of empty glasses, waiting staff arguing with each other. A guest asks if he can get something to drink, answer, not now, has to get food out. We go out to the outside stand. No staff, wait, after 5 minutes we leave. With us other guests too. It wasn't like there was a huge amount going on. BUT, the staff was only busy with themselves. “Customer threatens to place an order” but no one wants to accept it. Ergo: We won't be coming back anytime soon; thank God there are still other restaurants
