Genazvale in Berlin

The Georgian restaurant, once considered the best in the city, has experienced a significant decline. The kitchen has undergone a major change and the chef has been replaced. A particularly serious aspect is the inadequate service. The waiters, also known as service staff, behave in such a snooty manner that it gives the impression that they consider themselves the undisputed rulers of the world. Their behavior makes it seem as if they are of service to you in a way that is reminiscent of a personal favor... to which one should be very grateful. Some things were forgotten and misplaced. When the leader was present, things used to go much better.

We had dinner there and the staff is very unfriendly. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

Service a disaster. We found a large piece of plastic in our chicken skewer and kindly told the waitress about it after eating. We were then left sitting for almost a quarter of an hour with the table half-cleared. There was no real apology or attention for the plastic, the bill also came at full price. A mistake like that can happen, it's not a big deal, we ate the skewer anyway, but I find it incomprehensible not to accommodate the guest in this case. Otherwise the food is actually delicious if you want to afford it.

Just very brief feedback on this. The resto is authentically Georgian, if you've been to Georgia you know that. All of the dishes on the menu sound authentic. We had a simple cucumber/tomato salad...10 euros! We thought it was overpriced. Khinkali were TOP! Shashlik didn't have a real Adshika...and that with the Georgian? Wine was delicious. You could optimize a lot of things in the resto and then it would be really good!

Despite reservations and the restaurant being almost empty, we only got a small table for two against the wall. The question of whether we could get a table in the back area was not answered. Neither English nor German was understood here. This also applied to the ordering and payment. Communication was hardly possible. The beetroot starter was good, as were the filled pancakes. The salad with chicken tasted good but was presented carelessly in a small cereal bowl. I found 5 pomegranate seeds. 11.00 euros is too much for that. The bread with cheese was very good but should best be eaten with four people. When we wanted to pay we first had to look for someone. The bill was brought to us and even though we said we wanted to pay separately, the total bill came. We were then very rudely asked to go to the counter. It's a shame we just wanted to try Georgian cuisine, maybe we chose the wrong restaurant.

This restaurant is my favorite spot in Berlin! I love its old-school Georgian style—it’s charming and authentic. The menu is fantastic, especially on Wednesdays when they offer a great selection of dishes for an amazing price. One highlight for me is the Georgian soup, harcho—it’s absolutely delicious! Whether you’re a fan of Georgian cuisine or looking to try something new, this place is a must-visit.

For our dads birthday we wanted to try Georgian cuisine. The menu sounds delicious and is somewhat pricey but in comparison to other restaurants it's the same. The cheese pizza/ bread was divine, really fresh as well as the cheese dumplings. The starter of the aubergine was cold and ok. Small portion for 12 euros. The kebabs and lamb dishes were cooked and grilled freshly for sure. It just all lacks sides. The kebab was just a skewer and half a wrap. Not very filling. Every side dish is another 4 euros. The lack of glass of wines sand just bottles of Georgian wines which not many know about was annoying unfortunately. We asked three times for the bill and had to run after every single drink or extra dish we wanted to order. Service is apparently known not to be up to any standards. Food is slightly salty which could have been once off but absolutely tasty and freshly cooked. Definitely worth a try.

Cozy, tasty, nice waiters and service

On our last visit we had, as always, an exceptionally good “Khinkali” and “Khachapuri”, but the dessert was stale and burnt for €8.50.

Well, it was my first visit to a Georgian restaurant. The restaurant was moderately full. The furnishings are very pleasant and cozy. The menu is clear and you are sure to find something for every taste. The waiting time for the food was normal and our food was very tasty. However, and this is perhaps also Georgian, food is not decorated here and water or wine is placed in the bottle next to the glasses without any restrictions. There were a lot of staff standing around, but their eyes didn't seem to be on the guests, so I had to keep trying to signal to a waitress in the hope that she would come to me. Later, regular guests or friends came, chairs began to be carried around and unfortunately the peace and quiet was over, so I preferred to pay and leave. But maybe that's not always the case.

It is very similar to Turkish cuisine. I didn't know we had such a similar culinary culture. all were delicious. You can try sour cream cake.

I was there today with a relative. - cuisine - 9 out of 10. Tasty. - the interior and atmosphere are pleasant. - service - 5 out of 10. We were served by 3 different waiters at once, they forgot about one dish, but then gave us a discount as compensation. There was a bit of chaos in the service, but the waiters were pleasant to talk to. - prices are not cheap - invoice - always take the receipt and check it. They added coffee and wine from the next table for a total of 12 euros. —- General feeling: normal, but you need to control the check))

Very nice restaurant to feel good. The food was really delicious and the service was always friendly and quick despite the very full house.

The starters were really good, except for the chicken in walnut sauce, which was 60% bone-in. The main courses were ok but not special. The meat was tough and gristly. The service was difficult because hardly anyone spoke German or English. The main courses were far too expensive for the quality offered.

Very unfriendly service who made rude announcements. After the first order, disinterest in the guests. The menu is not explained even when asked. For starters, for example, bread is missing and has to be ordered separately. Side dishes for main courses cost extra. The food was okay, but that's to be expected for the prices.

The food is very fresh and tasty, just a pleasure, many thanks to the chefs for the taste! The interior is very pleasant and noble, good lighting, beautiful original elements of Georgian culture throughout the restaurant. But unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired. I think they are all wonderful people in their own right, but at work they fail to fulfill their responsibilities because they simply don't have enough hands during rush hour. The management only needs to hire at least 2-3 additional waiters who will compensate for the big disadvantage of the restaurant - attention to the guests and care of the tables. For 4 hours stay in the restaurant from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday there are the following comments: - At first the staff was friendly, cheerful and approachable, but then the waitress simply disappeared, and when I found him ordering an additional portion of khinkali and wine, the waiter was visibly annoyed and took the order with obvious reluctance, as if She did a favor, it was the first call. - Then the waiter came at 7:00 p.m. and said that we still had half an hour and had to leave, which was absolutely surprising in the middle of our birthday party. - The manager explained the situation by saying that our table was reserved by other guests at 8:00 p.m - During negotiations, she said two sentences that speak of her extreme lack of professionalism and attitude towards customers: “Yes, you have a table reserved for 4:00 p.m., but that doesn’t mean you can sit here forever?” "Please understand me, what do I do with 10 guests arriving at 8:00 p.m. and if you don't understand it, you don't have to understand it" and left - At 7:30 p.m., when all our guests were already getting dressed, we were told that we could stay, I stood at the bar for 10 minutes waiting for the bill because the waiter and the manager were confused about who ordered what - And finally, the waiter practically did not put away used dishes, dirty napkins, empty plates, empty bottles... Diploma: The food is tasty and of a high standard, but the attitude of the waiters and the manager towards visitors is not at all appropriate for a restaurant of this level, and this is a pity, because over many years of work everything could have been improved, but the manager is more important than profit, people come second. Don't expect friendly and reasonable service. The waiters and managers here may be nice people, especially at first, but they are extremely rude and unprofessional, plus there are disastrously few waiters for so many seats.

Richtig miese Erfahrung, ich kann es auf keinen Fall empfehlen. Das viel zu teure Essen war echt ok, aber wir haben über 1 Stunde darauf gewartet, ohne dass der Kellnerin einfiel, mal vorbeischauen und zu sagen, was los ist. Nachdem wir sie ansprachen, kamen diverse, sehr seltsame Ausreden, die lustigste davon war, dass das WLAN zwischen Service und Küche so langsam ist. Der Service ist insgesamt eher muffig, obwohl sich unsere Kellnerin im Rahmen Mühe gab. Wirklich komischer Laden, so geht Gastronomie einfach nicht, ich würde nie wieder hingehen. Wenn du 160.- Euro als Familie liegen lässt, willst du einfach den Abend nicht damit verbringen, zu rätseln, wann dein Essen kommt, sondern dich über was Anderes unterhalten. Ehrlich gesagt sind wir richtig sauer.

We waited over an hour for our food even though it wasn't busy. Then one meal came 15 minutes before the others and we couldn't even eat together. No nice gesture from the service/kitchen. It's a shame we won't be coming back, even though the food was good

Sehr gutes Esseb! Die gemischten Vorspeisen war sehr gut. Rote Beete Mousse, Spinat Mousse, gefüllte Paprika Röllchen und Auberginen Röllchen. Dann hatten wir je einen mit Rind- und Schweinefleisch gefüllten Kinkali, georgischen Käse und ein mit Käse und Ei gefülltes Chatchapuri. Viel Zuviel! Alles sehr schmackhaft.

Very good food! The mixed starters were very good. Beetroot mousse, spinach mousse, stuffed pepper rolls and eggplant rolls. Then we had a Kinkali stuffed with beef and pork, Georgian cheese and a Chatchapuri stuffed with cheese and egg. Way too much! All very tasty.

Traditional Georgian food of the highest quality. Can be recommended without hesitation.

Service is friendly but seems unprofessional and sometimes overloaded. Some employees speak German very poorly. Despite staying for 2 1/2 hours, we weren't asked for any more drinks. Four dishes were ordered and one was forgotten. No side dishes were asked when ordering. Food is ok, priced higher and the side dishes are charged extra. The biggest problem for us was that it was extremely loud in the restaurant and normal conversation was not possible.

An incredible team dinner experience! We decided to try almost everything on the menu — and yes, we pulled it off. The flavors were phenomenal, the portions generous, and by the end, we were absolutely stuffed. The best kind of food coma: almost painful, but filled with pure joy. Highly recommend it!

The atmosphere is not very inviting. It was very loud and everything was cramped and crowded. The service was subpar. First we got the wrong drink, then the wrong food. Then we had to wait another 20 minutes for the right food. And bread wasn't even offered. To top it off, they wanted to charge us for the wrong food.

I liked everything. Came during the week with family. There were quite a few people there, as the food there was very tasty. The waiters are responsive and polite. I recommend it. The lamb was cooked very tasty, juicy khinkali with herbs (my husband even ate them with legs😄) Thank you, I liked everything!!!

The food was good, but overpriced in my opinion. No side dishes were recommended for this, so I was a bit at a loss. Some of the staff were rather cold and didn't speak any German. The atmosphere is very authentic.

ATTENTION - TERRIBLE! At 6 p.m. we had reserved a table in the Genazvale restaurant for 5 people. When we arrived there, we were greeted by a cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, that was the only positive thing about the evening. After about 10 minutes our order was accepted. The waiter could hardly understand us, which made ordering a little difficult. After over an hour we didn't get a drink or food. We spoke to the waiters several times and were told they would take care of it. After an hour and a half we spoke to a senior who apologized and wanted to invite us for a free drink. The waiter disappeared and didn't come back for the next 10 minutes. Frustrated, we got up and left this store after 1:45 hours. We have never experienced such bad service! I can only advise against this store. A complete waste of time!!!

-Ignorant/overtaxed staff- I was here on a Friday with four family members. The staff seemed very friendly and we were looking forward to the delicious food. However, we were granted this that evening. We sat for 1 1/2 hours and waited for our order, asked several times, but were not provided with drinks or anything to eat. Nobody really spoke German, but English didn't seem to help much either. So we left the warm and noisy restaurant hungry and thirsty. The table was beautifully set. Thanks for nothing.

It’s delicious, but you have to ask for sour cream sauces separately; the staff doesn’t offer or warn that khinkali is served without sauce. It seems to be good, but it falls a little short.

Really good food. The restaurant is super authentic and has a first-class charm. I'd love to come back. I would drive the 250km just for that. The service is on point. The boss seems to be very interested in ensuring that the customers feel comfortable and don't wait long. The menu is extremely long, which makes it difficult to decide as you want to try everything. When we ordered we were immediately asked if we spoke Russian. We said no. There was a Russian-speaking family at the next table. Three waiters buzzed around the guests. We sat in front of our empty glasses and plates. Nobody came by. There were only two tables occupied in the afternoon. No thanks, no requests, no “goodbyes”, no “did you like it?” Drinks were placed on the table without a word. There was no pouring. The service staff sometimes didn't understand us and made us feel unwelcome. It's a shame, we knew it completely differently.

Three of us ate, it cost 140 euros. The food is super, the staff is 3. When paying, the check turned out to have Apfelschorle for 30 (!) euros, although it wasn’t even ordered and the rest of the check was fine.

We had a really tasty meal here today. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasant, the tables are all lovingly set ❤️ the service is very attentive and friendly 🥰 we haven't eaten Georgian food that often and were really surprised here. From the starter to the dessert, everything was excellent. We ordered different dishes and always divided them into three. Starter stewed eggplant and stuffed pancakes with cheese, main course veal with champions and Georgian kebab and for dessert chocolate cake. The food was perfect 👌🏼The house wine is also recommended. All in all, we will come again. Thank you very much 🤗

We came across the restaurant through Lukas' video and really wanted to try the food. What can we say; we weren't disappointed. The food was incredibly delicious. We had to wait a bit but it was also freshly prepared. It was the best meal we ate during our Berlin trip. The waitress who served us (but also the others) were super nice. We can recommend it to everyone and would eat there again and again.

The food was really good, the service was very nice, but the atmosphere...?! Of course we sat outside at 28 degrees and there was no tablecloth or seat cushions. Unfortunately that wasn't guest friendly or appealing.

I have now had to deduct a lot from the initial 5*. I have known Genazvale for a very, very long time (even when it was located on Windscheidstrasse in Charlottenburg). It was/has actually always been my favorite restaurant when it comes to Georgian cuisine. Dined there countless times, drank and really had a good time & ate delicious food. The last time was really disappointing. The food (at least what I ordered) lost some of its flavor. The menu has become different (smaller?), but the prices have increased. The staff is apparently new... I strongly suspect that the owner has changed too!! That would explain a lot too. That's really a pity. I'll give the Genazvale a second chance at some point and hope that I just had a "bad" day there. Unfortunately points deducted!!!!!!!

On the first evening there was a bit of a problem with the service, but everything was really good and it was just a nice evening. Haven't been here three times since then and the service just isn't good. Food is generally good, ambience is great. But for the price you can and should really expect more.

Yesterday, my wife and I decided once again to travel from Frankfurt/Oder to Berlin and treat ourselves to a delicious dinner. But.... unfortunately, there was one disappointment. 1. The service certainly leaves much to be desired. 2. Food, prices have risen, portions have become smaller, and the quality of food... I am sure that Georgians can cook better. 3. The taste of homemade wine is reminiscent of cheap Soviet wine, like “Agdam”, but I’m generally silent about tea, a disposable bag is even tastier. I apologize to the owners of the Genatsvali restaurant, but it’s better to tell you the truth in the hope that you will correct all the shortcomings than to flatter and say that everything was delicious.
