A total winner. If you are looking for really traditional and authentic German cooking, stumble no further than this spot. The restaurant feels like a large house dining room, with wooden chairs and tables and a really relaxed feeling. Our waitress spoke great English and took good care of us. They have an English menu as well, so don't stress about remembering German vocab from high school. We ordered the poached pork shoulder and the schnitzel and both were huge, delicious and really filling. The mashed peas that came with the pork shoulder were outstanding. They also had a great selection of unusual beverages, and I was especially happy with my non-alcoholic beer I ordered.

I had been curious about it before my trip, so I made a reservation online via email. I was a little worried because the email confirming my reservation was in German and I couldn't understand whether it was really possible to make a reservation even though I used a translator, but I was able to make a reservation without any problems. We ordered sausage, schnitzel, two iced teas, and two beers. The food was German cuisine and was very delicious. The accompanying potatoes were also sweet and delicious. I ordered dessert after I was done cooking, but it didn't come out for about 40 minutes (the food came out quite quickly), so I gave up and asked for the bill, thinking that my order hadn't been accepted, but I was surprised to see that the price of dessert was included in the bill...😅 When I said I hadn't had dessert, they said sorry and brought me a new bill without dessert. I had a good impression of the customer service, but I felt a little disappointed that I would have liked dessert, so I gave it 4 stars. However, the atmosphere is nice and I'm really grateful that I can make reservations by email rather than by phone. There is also an English menu, so I think it would be a good idea to read up on it in advance. The total price was about 57€, so I paid 60€ and went home.

The food was very yummy and I finished my whole plate very easily. The others at the table also finished theirs, just took a little longer than me :) the food did take a little long I think we waited at least 45 minutes. The atmosphere is nice and gives old Berlin vibes, as it is a older establishment. Overall very nice and I would like to go back to try some other dishes as well

Excellent food - I had Brussel sprouts bake which was fab as I love the sprouts. But charged me €5.80 for two glasses of tap water that I would happily left as a tip, and initially sat me on a bar stool by window before I asked to move to one of numerous spare tables. Judging by languages a 100% tourist place. Food and wine was great. Attitude less so

More Berlin is not possible. Just stand in front of it and want to get in. Enjoy the strikingly friendly and attentive service inside and don't plan on doing anything else. Then you have done everything right. As a reward there is delicious food and a good selection of draft beer.

Bad food & bad service. Unfortunately, we have rarely seen such unmotivated and unfriendly employees. Nobody came to the table to order or pay. There was a chat behind the counter and then an order was reluctantly taken.

Very nice and quiet place. We ordered the Haxe and the thüringer brastwurst, and it was far so good! Don’t forget to finish with a sweet apple strudel. We will come back

A good place to go to try typical German food, I went with my partner and we loved the food, which came in quite large portions. The service was very good and the boy who served us was very attentive in case we were comfortable and was very friendly. I recommend it

The average score for the evaluated items is the lowest possible. Rudeness is the hallmark of employees. There is no warning about the amount above which you can pay with a credit card. After the response I received after my evaluation, I can only believe that they are confusing me with someone else. A similar situation happened to me and my daughter, but EXACTLY the opposite. At reception they told us that they would not be able to serve us without a reservation. My daughter ASKED/INSISTED to wait at the counter for a table and we had a beer. When we noticed the “atmosphere” we decided to pay for the beer and leave, but they told us that they couldn't receive a low amount on the card. There was a customer at the counter who even suggested we go to an ATM to withdraw money, which I don't believe is even possible with a virtual card. I stayed long enough to prove that rudeness was not my privilege. The same attitude was repeated with several clients and is confirmed here in your narrative. See how you respond to an upset customer? Instead of apologizing/clarifying, they try to turn the facts against the customer.

Cadre chaleureux typé brasserie/bierstub allemande servant une cuisine typique dans un quartier un peu à l’écart des cours Hackeschen. Nous avons pris des boulettes de Berlin, accompagnées de deux sauces différentes, servies avec de très bonnes pommes de terre sautées. Ainsi qu’une Wienerschnitzel de porc tendre et croustillante avec de délicieuses frites potatoes bien croquantes, accompagnée de bières locales. C’était très copieux et de bons rapports qualité prix. Le services était très poli et rapide.

Come spesso capita - almeno a me -, è stato il caso a guidarmi a questo ristorante, dopo una passeggiata nel gradevole quartiere di Hackescher Markt, quello che nei primi cinque giorni di questa vacanza berlinese mi è piaciuto di più. Mentre giravamo per le vecchie strade della zona abbiamo individuato questo locale vecchio stile collocato su un incrocio e, dando un'occhiata attraverso le finestre, è stata subito attrazione. Ci siamo detti: finiamo l'esplorazione dei dintorni e pranziamo qui. Buona decisione. Sarebbe forse bastata la lettura della pagina introduttiva del menù in versione inglese, con l'avvincente storia del locale dall'Ottocento ai giorni nostri (prima lavanderia, poi sede di una società di trasporto merci con carri a cavallo, poi panetteria fino ai tempi della DDR...) per rendere piacevole la visita, ma il cibo ha poi fatto degnamente la sua parte. In quantità eccessive come sempre, purtroppo (soprattutto nel mio cinghiale in gelatina, quattro enormi fette, mentre la mia più furba compagna aveva optata per una porzione piccola - si fa per dire - di polpetta berlinese con patate), ma con sapori autentici. Peccato non avere posto nello stomaco per lo strudel della casa. Con doppio kummel a mo' di digestivo e bevande, conto sotto i 30 euro a persona. E - miracolo... - con possibilità di pagare con carta di credito. Lunga vita al Sophieneck!

Com muito … mas muito grosseria fui tratada. Fiquei no balcão tomando uma cerveja esperando uma mesa, mas decidi ir embora pelo tratamento que estava recebendo sem entender. Restaurante vazio e recusando o tempo todo clientes sem saberem trabalhar com logística de reservas. Confortáveis em tratar mal as pessoas como se fosse algo natural. Nada há ver com cultura, todos os demais locais que fui aqui tem a mesma cultura e não fui tratada com estupidez.

The blond host is an extremely rude lady, which is a shame because the food is quite good. There are more options to try traditional German food, I recommend to skip this restaurant. Not worthy.

This is such a good place to eat and drink. We were visiting from Australia and were staying locally but did not have a booking. They accommodated us and gave us an English menu. The food was amazing and well worth the visit. The atmosphere was fabulous. Would recommend visiting for great food.

Nice environment and typical German atmosphere. Average food and good value for money. Slow service, stressed waitress, we had ordered the dish with German meatballs with fried potatoes and mushrooms and the wrong dish arrived. Asked for bread and it arrived almost 10 minutes late. I would recommend getting someone to help the blonde girl, to make the service better.

Very good traditional cuisine without fuss

There were four of us there - as a tradition before Christmas on a working day. We were a bit very surprised because of the greatly increased prices and the good food we were no longer used to: In my opinion, despite the menu, it was not an original Thuringian bratwurst, which is usually not mushy in consistency, but rather a “coarse bratwurst”. known to spices. The sauerkraut was mushy from being kept warm for so long and pretty much devoid of bay leaf, juniper berries and onions. We agreed it was now a typical Berlin tourist trap. Fewer people are eating out, everything has become more expensive, not just energy costs. I have pity! Only the beer remained at around €5 for the half liter. Next year we will come back before Christmas because we like the atmosphere.

When I first arrived in Berlin, I saw this restaurant introduced on the map. It takes about 8-10 minutes to walk from the hotel. Since we didn't make a reservation, we could only arrange a small table. The restaurant staff are very friendly. We ordered the traditional German dark beer and plated it together. The portions were generous, and the food and restaurant atmosphere were very good.

Gaststätte Sophieneck is a hidden gem in Berlin if you are looking for authentic German food. It is a cozy place, with a very traditional atmosphere and friendly service that makes you feel at home. I tried the breaded chicken (Schnitzel) and the knuckle (Eisbein), and both dishes were amazing! The Schnitzel was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, accompanied by delicious garnishes. The knuckle, meanwhile, was tender and full of flavor, cooked to perfection. If you want to enjoy a typical German meal in a charming place with good value for money, this restaurant is a must-stop. To add a drawback, the service is quite slow and they tell you that everything is reserved and then you see people arrive without a reservation and they seat them at any table that they have previously told you was reserved, I found it a bit ugly.

Nothing really works without a reservation. The restaurant was very well attended on Sunday. The dishes are delicious, but a lot of them are meat-heavy. The beer was good, the coffee was mediocre. Still, happy again.

Spent a lovely evening here with my girlfriend, the food was great but the waiter made our experience, he was very helpful with the recommendations and full of positive energy.We will definitely come again when in Berlin

If you like it rustic and enjoy German cuisine, you're in good hands here. The restaurant was busy and we were glad we made a reservation. The service was reasonably good, the audience was mixed in terms of age and other “composition”. The Sophieneck has been a traditional fixture in Mitte for decades.

Traditional German food in a really nice relaxed bar/pub type feel, we didn't book but managed to get a table but this was on a Monday so I would definitely advise to book on weekend. I had the roasted pork knuckle which was huge & delicious. 2 meals with a 2 large beer & wine was around €65 Nice atmosphere inside & friendly staff

I just love it. Then today, always nice service and delicious food. Half a duck with red cabbage and dumpling for Christmas. It was good and tasty, could have been a little crispier, but that's just my taste. Sauce very tasty and dumpling too, red cabbage great. Beer fresh and tasty and of course it was full. So it's better to reserve. But definitely try it, an exception for this corner and my place of choice for decades.

A typical German food place that is not cheap at all for what there is around. The atmosphere is completely welcoming. The knuckle was the best we tried in Berlin. The meatballs were nothing special, but the mushroom garnish was delicious. 💵 Approximate price per person: €20

A good place to taste German cuisine specialties.

I visited the restaurant this Sunday with my girlfriend for lunch. We had a nice time, the waiter Marin was very polite and smiley face, fast, he took our orders well and it went smooth although it was busy. We ate a schnitzel with side dish, food was tasty. He knew some Romanian so that made us feel more welcome as I am Romanian myself. Great service and good food. When we visit Berlin again, we will come again!

We came recommended, around 12:30 a.m. we ordered a typical dish and a bottle of water, we asked if he had tap water and he told us no. When he brought us the food, some of the potatoes were cold, some were hot, some were uncooked, he brought us tap water, although he charged us for a bottle of mineral water. The place is nice and pleasant and the food, we may not have been right, but the service has not been the best, before paying we have asked for the ticket and he told us that after paying and we have been able to confirm that he has not charged for tap water.

The place was packed and there were no tables, but luckily a reservation no-showed and they were nice enough to seat us! We were pleased with all the recommended dishes, but the Haxe was particularly good. Very cozy vibe.

Stedet ligger sentralt, men er muligens en turistfelle. Haxen var litt tørr, lite saus, og mye av svoren (som jo er en delikatesse) var tatt av. Bratwursten med sauerkraut og stekte poteter var GRÅ,ikke så mye som et grønt blad, potetene smakte gammelt og var ikke knuspige. I det hele tatt mat en selv kunne slengt sammen etter en slitsom dag på jobb.

The place is really cozy. The food is marvelous and the service is really nice. We have ordered "eisben" and a bratwurst and the famous gluehwine. It's been our best gastronomic experience here in Berlin. The waiters have had several considerations with us. Besides that it has been the cheapest place we have been. Each time we come back Berlin we keep on coming back to Sophieneck!!!

I thought I would be full with just one loaf of this, but I was full and it was so delicious that I turned over. If it weren't so expensive, I would want to eat it all the time. The staff took quite a while, but they seemed busy.

Disappointing, they had recommended it to me as good, nice and cheap but starting with the service, quite bad, as if they didn't feel like serving us and after 20 minutes without attention we left. Then it's funny because they respond to your review by inventing a story that has nothing to do with it. They excuse themselves by saying that they are sorry for not speaking my language, when it is not a question of language, it is a question of good customer service, we ordered 2 beers and the waitress' answer was, “I have 4 different ones, look at the menu” she never came to ask us And he didn't have the patience to explain those 4 beers to me, like they do in other establishments. Very original place! They’re were out of schnitzel buy still everything was really good.

3 people ate 2 main dishes, 1 soup, 2 cups of tea, and 1 glass of milk. We went for lunch a little after 12 o'clock on Saturday and it was quiet! It's not too salty and it's just right. It doesn't taste like schnitzel and the soup is perfect! They didn't ask for tips and were very friendly. There was also a restroom in the store, and it was spacious and comfortable!! I don't think I got 60 euros that way.

Sophieneck offers German home cooking in my neighborhood. Everything I have ever ordered here has been delicious… the solyanka is to die for! Sometimes the service has a somewhat brittle charm, but the overall impression was always ok... :-)

We were invited and there was supposed to be pork knuckle, it was on the menu, but unfortunately it wasn't available. We then agreed on knuckle and it tasted good warmed up. The original German farmer's breakfast was reinterpreted and came with celery and raw peppers and was not traditionally served. Too bad for our guests. Conclusion: Food and service very much in need of improvement

I ate meatballs with Schwein's Haksen. It's like a dog. Schwein's Haksen is very good. The owner is also kind. Yum yum.

A must try if you are visiting Berlin. The best food we had in the city. We ordered the meatballs and bratwurst which were both nicely cooked and served with buttery potatoes and flavoursome sauerkraut. Sauce served with the meatballs matched well. Generous portions for an affordable price.
