Very nice castle inn with delicious dishes and a beautiful view over Jena.

After the steep climb, the reward comes! A cold drink on the large terrace, with a wonderful view of Jena! Then it's off to dinner in the quaintly furnished hermitage. The fortunately not-so-extensive menu suggests that all the dishes are freshly prepared, which is indeed the case. An outstanding "Würzfleisch" (spiced meat) was just as impressive as the chanterelle cream soup as a starter! A must-try is, of course, a dish with Thuringian dumplings. The choice fell on the "Lobdeburger Kräuterbraten" (Lobdeburger herb roast)! (Does an additional dumpling really have to cost almost €5?) For our companions, we had the wild boar roast with a delicious wild mushroom dumpling! Both dishes were delicious! The service was mixed! The ladies of the house were attentive, friendly, and enthusiastic, which unfortunately couldn't be said for the young waiter! (Skilled labor shortage?!) Although not cheap (€105 for two people including drinks), the restaurant is definitely worth recommending! 👍🏻

A great day-trip restaurant with a view over Jena. Just about 2 km from the hospital, the walk uphill to the Lobdeburg ruins is a bit steep. The Lobdeburgklause, however, makes up for it with excellent, freshly prepared food, friendly, dedicated, and efficient staff, and a fantastic view over Jena and the surrounding area. I'd be happy to come back.

Positive: It's a lovely place to sit outside with a great view. Some positives: The food (roast wild boar) was generally good. The meat was tender, but the sauce was a bit disappointing, as based on the description, we had hoped for a very dark, strong sauce, but unfortunately, it was just a standard sauce that didn't stand out. The wild mushroom dumplings were also okay in terms of taste. Contrary: The service was very inattentive, slow, and extremely disorganized. For example, two tables, including us, weren't brought cutlery after ordering, so we had our food on the table before the cutlery arrived. At neighboring tables, we noticed that drink requests were ignored, and when one table asked for the bill again, the young, blonde lady gave us a very rude, almost rude response. We weren't asked after the meal whether we enjoyed it. It seems uninteresting, which was reinforced by the behavior of the very disinterested young man. Too bad, actually a beautiful place, but unfortunately, we don't recommend it.

The three of us visited the Lobdeburgklause on July 5th. The restaurant is truly beautifully situated and offers a magnificent view over Lobeda, Altlobeda, part of Jena, and on nice days like these, even as far as Leuchtenburg Castle. The outdoor area is well-kept, inviting, and shady. The interior is quaint, bright, and inviting. We were there from 6:30 p.m. until closing time. Drinks arrived quickly and without hassle. The food is excellent, and in my opinion, the value for money is one of the best in Jena. Requests are readily accommodated; the owner and kitchen management, and both teams in general, seem well-coordinated and mutually committed to meeting the needs of their guests. The interaction with one another is friendly and approachable, which is anything but a given in the restaurant industry and, in my opinion, also has an impact on the well-being of the visitors. We felt exceptionally comfortable, and I wish the restaurant and those who work there all the best in the future. Marc Thomßen

On Friday, July 20, 2025, in almost 30-degree heat, we hiked to Lobdeburg Castle with our grandson. It was a beautiful walk through the forest, with the goal of stopping at the Lobdeburgklause (inn). According to the opening hours, it's open on Fridays. Unfortunately, it wasn't open because a party of 60 people announced they were arriving in two hours. It's a shame we didn't even get a drink, even though my husband asked twice that we only wanted a drink. We were referred to another restaurant. Needless to say, our grandson was very disappointed. It's a shame that places like this exist.

1. Very friendly staff 2. Beautiful restaurant with the opportunity to drink a beer in peace in the beer garden before eating and after the steep climb. 3. 4 stars for the food. Visually not exciting, the dark forest mushroom dumplings next to the dark slices of wild boar. But the dumplings weren't convincing in terms of taste either. Since my two companions felt the same way, I'm writing the review. The other two in the group had roulade and salmon. From what I heard: the roulade, with light dumpling and the salmon would have received full points. However, the salmon eater complained that the liquid fat was being used too well. Everything on the plate was floating in it.

Huge praise to the three, still very young, girls and the gentleman in service this afternoon [Easter Monday]. Your friendliness has long made up for the negative manner of the fourth service person that I saw and experienced outside.

We had lunch with 12 people and were served very friendly. Everyone found something to eat and everyone enjoyed it.

The location is good. The service is also very attentive and courteous. I found the prices quite high. For a roulade with a dumpling and red cabbage, which is a little lost on huge plates, around 25 euros and a trout also costs around 24 euros plus 4.90 side dishes, so almost 30 euros. Plus drink, oh well. This isn't exactly a bargain for families. In Austria we also had a very good meal in Lienz last summer for 18 euros. Please think of all guests. Not just to those who can afford it. Thank you.

Always a smile for the guests, recently a nice place by the fireplace, in summer on the terrace with a beautiful view. The most important thing, however, is a very, very tasty meal. Always happy.

Cozy restaurant on the edge of the forest above Jena. Well-running catering business. The food was tasty. But the price-performance ratio leans heavily towards price. €18.60 for a pasta dish with wild garlic pesto - that's a clear statement!

Unfortunately it wasn't possible to just drink a beer on hand, as there were guests sitting inside and, according to the waiter, they were more important. There were 2 waiters at the counter. In that time you could have tapped 10 beers. We're talking about tapping a beer and then cashing in, so no service. It's a shame and not recommended.

We tried... but despite being told that we only wanted one drink and that the restaurant and outside area were almost empty, we were turned away very unfriendly by the staff! It's also the manner that decides here... this inglorious reputation that people perceive in Jena and the surrounding area has now been confirmed for us! It used to be ok - now it's a no go!

Hier entscheidet eben auch die Art und Weise… dieser unrühmliche Ruf, den man in Jena und Umgebung wahrnimmt, hat sich für uns nun bestätigt! Früher mal ok - jetzt ein No Go!

Was a nice stop after the climb to the castle ruins. Food was delicious, menu has something for everyone. From small snacks to vegetarian dishes to hearty roasts. Not exactly cheap, but there are many reasons for that that the restaurateurs cannot influence. Great view from the patio.

Service is a disaster. We were here today for the first and last time. When ordering food, the waiter arrogantly corrected the pronunciation. If only he had processed the order correctly. After almost an hour he came back to us and asked seriously if we would like to eat anything else. No more words….

When the weather is nice, of course outside with a fantastic view of Jena. Fast and friendly service, very attentive. I didn't know the sauce for the roulade. A bit strange, but ok. Price: €€€ Conclusion: recommended!!! Anything else ! Look at the ruins and please find out why there was or is no path or access to the castle. !!!

We were in the Lobdeburgklause by chance and were thrilled by the food and the service. Our dog was also allowed into the restaurant without any problems. Definitely a recommendation for your next hiking break.

We tried for three weeks to get a response to several reservation requests (both by email and by phone). When we were canceled today, we politely asked if there was another restaurant where we could eat with 30 people. We got the rude answer that it wasn't the restaurant's problem where we were staying now. Then the phone was simply hung up.

Great view, friendly service, but soft drinks for €5 that you wait over 20 minutes for and when the child asks for a straw, they bring it first and then charge another €0.20 for it. You won't get something to eat if you don't have a reservation. What a shame!

We made a reservation here and it worked out well. The two of us were warmly welcomed and given a table. We liked it. Then we ordered the drinks, which soon came, and at the same time we ordered the food. I had roulade with dumpling and red cabbage, the woman had smoked pork with salsify and also a dumpling. The meal took a long time (that's okay if the quality is right), but we weren't bored and had a lot to talk about. The food came and the performance was good. Everything was handmade (red cabbage had large and small pieces and was therefore not from a jar). The dumpling was also of very good quality!! Roulade was also homemade and was very tasty. Service was always available and very nice. We'd love to come back when we're in the area.

I've been to so many restaurants but this was the best I know. The staff is so friendly. The food is so beautifully presented. For €10 you get a whole tray of egg tarts. The tastiest was the roulade and the herb baguette, crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside!!!!

Schöne, urige Lokation, innen und aussen sehr gemütlich. Tolle Lage zum Wandern oder einfach in die Ferne schauen. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und bedient. Das Essen war reichlich, gut, preislich aus heutiger Sicht in Ordnung. Ein Punkt Abzug gibt es weil die Rouladen etwas zu fest waren. Wir kommen definiv wieder.

Wir hatten am Wochenende Klassentreffen in der Lobdeburgklause. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Gutbürgerliche Küche und auch bei vielen Gästen war die Bedienung sehr flott und immer freundlich. Trotz eingeschränkter Karte bei vielen Personen war für jeden etwas schmackhaftes dabei. Danke für den schönen Abend.
