A top restaurant, in the retro style of old times. Almost a small museum. Especially the small rooms with names. The food is very good. The staff is also very friendly.

Very nice service, very good quality food. You quickly come into contact with the neighboring tables, which creates a good atmosphere. Just really good. Restaurants in the city center can fall in line at the back.

The GDR-style restaurant was a pleasant surprise! The food was delicious and hearty – I especially enjoyed the schnitzel and solyanka. The decor really captures the vibe of the past with old posters, furniture, and details from the GDR era. A cozy and unique spot, highly recommend!

Everything in the old style. Lots of old things from the former GDR. Seems very consistent. We really liked the atmosphere. Completely different. The food came quickly and was also very tasty. Be sure to try the lark for dessert. Service was friendly and quick. There was nothing to complain about. My recommendation!

I was in the mood for a simple dish and was completely satisfied with my delicious dumpling. Everything on the plate lived up to expectations. The ambience fits well with the Ostalgie concept. Only the service is out of the ordinary. Unfortunately I can't give you a sixth star because it doesn't exist. But you deserve it. Thank you very much!

It was absolutely beautiful there. It felt like you were traveling back in time. The service was excellent and very polite, the guests were taken care of to the right extent. The food was also very tasty, tasted like grandma's. I can only warmly recommend the restaurant to everyone and will definitely come back and show others this great place :)

Found this rustic GDR ambience restaurant on a Sunday lunchtime. Everyone is warmly welcomed there. And I also ate really well and drank the dark beer. I can warmly recommend everything.

A picturesque place, excellent service, unforgettable food. I was attracted by the name of the place, thinking it had really preserved the characteristics of a place before 1989. In reality it is a small museum of period objects, which isn't even that long ago if you consider that yesterday they celebrated the 35th years since the fall of the wall. Anyway good.

We didn't have a reservation, so we couldn't get a seat at 4 p.m. We would have liked to have fed the roller shutters - unfortunately it wasn't possible. On our next visit to Leipzig we will reserve a table next to a hotel in the collective

Charming restaurant in GDR style. The food is plentiful and good. I particularly found the quark legs very tasty. The service was friendly and the food came surprisingly quickly.

Hello everyone, the entrance is a gateway back to childhood. From the ambience to the smell and all of your senses you will be transported back. But that's not the main reason you go there, but to eat. Great classic dishes from back then that are already half forgotten. Just like here, unfortunately, the poor knight for Leipziger Lerche, well. But there are also great drinks and red and green lemonade from today 😄. The food went very quickly, from the delicious creamy seasoned meat to the Jägerschnitzel with tomato sauce and pasta as well as liver Berlin style. Dear chef, leave out some of the raw vegetables and use more onions and brown butter. And I would have been in heaven. But the greens were also well prepared. Unfortunately, my girlfriend couldn't finish the salad because the portions were large. We wanted to take it with us but unfortunately we couldn't because there was nothing to transport it. I found it a bit of a shame, obviously not everyone has the storage options for containers. And 1 to 2 euros for transport packaging doesn't hurt. Because the prices are very humane anyway. Conclusion: I threaten to come back if I get a table 😄😄😄

Good food, good service, interesting atmosphere with all the 'GDR memories'

As a Berliner, I was in this GDR-cultured restaurant for the first time on June 20, 2023 to view an apartment. I was really impressed. Good food, great ambience. I would particularly like to highlight the very nice, friendly, courteous service from the man with the long hair ponytail. The restaurant is highly recommended!

Today we went to a family reunion for lunch at the wonderful collective restaurant. We were warmly welcomed and we basically entered our childhood. Great and wonderful memories, just what it was like in our home country. Super nice service and the menu with the most beautiful dishes ever! It was a magical lunch with beautiful memories and stories from our childhood! The food was great, the service was brilliant and super nice and the ambience was simply incredibly beautiful!! A must in Leipzig! We'll be back!

If you want to take a journey back in time, this is the right place for you. The nostalgic furnishings of the rooms are impressive. But you should reserve a table in advance. It was well attended even for a Wednesday. The waitresses were all in a good mood. The menu offered typical East German food. The chosen dish was delicious. Price/performance top.

If you want to travel back in time, this is the right place for you. Going back to the time of my childhood and youth, it is a great experience. Delicious dishes from long-forgotten times and great service.

Unfriendly juice shop. Table ordered for 5:30 p.m. with a note that we would be there at 5:15 p.m. Table was simply given away. They didn't even try to find a solution. I will never visit this location again.

Great restaurant! Homemade dishes, many of them probably from the pre-reunification period, I have no comparison. It tasted very good, and the rest of a group of 15 people were also very satisfied. Well-made home cooking from times gone by, the beef roulade with dumplings and red cabbage (or red cabbage) brought back memories of old times. The ambience is unique, there is no fancy dress here. There is honest craftsmanship, guests from their hometown, a few tourists and a team that is rare to find today. The waitress was friendly, funny and a real professional. Felt comfortable from the first to the last minute. Many thanks to the entire kitchen and service team. When I'm back in Leipzig, I now know exactly where there are nice people and homemade delicacies. See you soon and thank you very much!

Very tasty and good old German cuisine. The restaurant is decorated with all sorts of old things from the GDR era and makes it cozy just like Grandma used to have on the sofa 😁 definitely a must for Ostalgics and definitely recommended for everyone else. The outdoor seating directly on the Karli is of course not that great, so only the 3 stars for the ambience.

We were looking for good home-style food and were immediately greeted by a very nice waiter! The menu includes fish, meat (super tasty, very tender, very well seasoned) and vegetarian alternatives! For someone who was born long after the fall of communism, the decoration is like a little journey back in time. The nicest thing is the bell that signals that the food is ready and the music from the 50s/60s! Super tasty food, very nice service, a stroke of luck for us!!

I give this an absolutely deserved five stars! We were visiting Leipzig for a few days and reserved a table in the collective for the first evening. We received a super friendly welcome! The employees really enjoy their job and are very friendly. Simply great service. The ambience is particularly important to emphasize. You immediately feel at home here and can take a little journey back in time to the GDR. Very authentic and designed with a lot of love. It's worth a visit for that alone. The selection on the menu corresponds entirely to the ambience. Traditional East German and Bohemian cuisine can be found here. Great home cooking prepared with love that simply tastes good. Absolutely recommended! We liked it so much that we went there a second time during our stay in Leipzig. For us, the collective is now a mandatory stop on every further visit to Leipzig. All in all, absolutely recommended!

Fun evening spent in the GDR atmosphere. Food plentiful and good. Starter (4 Fettbemme = 2 normal bread rolls (basket bread)) was too much as such. Jägerschnitzel with 3 slices and plenty of tomato pasta was also huge. We were served very friendly and had a very nice evening.

The restaurant “Kollektiv” tries to revive the charm of the old GDR with its furnishings and food. As a former GDR citizen, I found the atmosphere and the menu authentic. Overall, we enjoyed the evening at the collective in the “Kollektiv” restaurant. The pork cheeks did not have good meat quality and were not cooked sufficiently. The chairs were in GDR style but somewhat taped off (very broken in places). I learned in the catering industry, but I'm not familiar with broken chairs in restaurants! The waiter was a bit exhausted in places... yes, he had a lot of work to do, but the guests shouldn't feel that. Please continue anyway, because the concept is good and if you get a little better in one place or another, then we'll come back with our collective.

Discovered by chance while strolling through Connewitz. Great look back at times gone by - lovingly decorated with lots of memorabilia and the food, of course, is original Ostalgian. We felt very comfortable there and the service was also very quick.

Everything was as we imagined. The waitresses were very friendly, the food was really good, the atmosphere was forgettable. We got a place even without a reservation (in the afternoon). Even the wasp plague was easy to bear thanks to “swirlers”. We'll be back, thank you for the lovely afternoon!

The food was an absolute dream! We had the Fettbemme and the spiced meat as a starter, followed by the Jägerschnitzel with noodles. I would like to give more stars if I could :) Starting with the super nice and competent service person, who even advised us against Urquell because it just didn't go well tonight. Very guest-oriented 👍🏻 As a starter we had the Fettbemme and the spiced meat and as the main course we had the Jägerschnitzel. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Great atmosphere, inside and outside and the prices are great too. A really great pleasure and highly recommended 🙏 Thank you for letting us be your guests!

Dishes and ambience (inside) according to GDR taste, for those interested or nostalgic, prices are reasonable and food is close to the original GDR taste, I can judge by its age, all in all you get what you can expect. Unfortunately, one of the service employees wasn't entirely motivated.

Beautiful Ostalgie restaurant and delicious food (2022). Were there again today (August 14th, 2024). Thanks to the team for fulfilling a special request despite many order constraints. Unfortunately, the “Poor Knight” dessert is no longer on the menu. . . we missed him. Food and service great as always!

We went there on Aug 13th. Since we had no reservation, we found a table inside. Very hot in Leipzig, nevertheless we enjoyed the dinner, and we could appreciate the interior. Winter dishes indeed.... , but excellent, it seemed to stay in a house. Everything was pleasant. We were happy and visited the restaurant again today. I sincerely hope everything will remain the same. PLS do no change,... in spite of the good reviews....

My favorite for lunch and a culinary journey through time...

The broiler was dry, the Mutzbraten was also dry on the inside and there was a lot of fat on the outside. The starters were okay (spiced meat, Shopska salad (but this was a bit overpriced) and egg salad). The fried potatoes didn't taste good either.
