We received a very warm welcome, the ambiance is extremely lovingly designed, and you can go on a journey of discovery after ordering. There are lovingly decorated seats everywhere. The food was served quickly, the portions were large, and the food was absolutely delicious. The warm-hearted people who work in the collective deserve special mention. Thank you so much! You made the visit something truly special.

I experienced "Back to the Future" at the "Kollektiv" on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. It was a journey back to my own childhood and youth with the food that was served back in the GDR, if you were lucky (grin, grin). Among the decor, I found many items that were also used in my parents' house or that I recognized from elsewhere. The dishes are prepared very closely to the tastes of those days, which brings back old memories. Whether it's Jägerschnitzel, Grilletta, Leber, Goulash, or Krautroulade, everything is cooked very well. It was funny on my first visit that I didn't see any fries on the menu, which is logical, since we weren't familiar with such a thing. The desserts, such as the Rumkugeln, are also excellent and highly recommended. Rounded off with a freshly tapped beer, served by friendly staff, the visit is a pleasure. Keep up the good work!!!

We were looking for an authentic restaurant for our short visit to Leipzig and were more than satisfied. The menu offered exactly what we were looking for. Simple dishes that you can't find anywhere else. Service was perfect, as was the food. We'd be happy to return on our next visit.

Great shop, the prices are super affordable, and there was nothing to complain about. Everything was delicious, and the portion sizes were more than sufficient. One positive thing to note is the many little things on display in the restaurant... like a little trip back in time, but in a beautiful way 😁 The staff is super friendly and super attentive if you arrive with children 👍🏼

The food is really tasty, with quality products and generous portions. Although they don't have many beers, the ones they do have are very good. The decor is suggestive and evokes the GDR period in every detail. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the service was quick. I will gladly return when I return to Leipzig.

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed because we couldn't have dinner here as planned. We had already tried several times at lunchtime to reserve a table for 6 p.m. (two adults and a toddler) – unfortunately, without success; no one answered the phone. I then sent an email, hoping for a prompt response. There was no response. So we decided to just drop in. However, we were turned away on the spot, claiming that all tables were reserved – even though there were still five tables free outside at that time and they weren't marked as reserved. When my partner asked if we could sit at one of the free tables, we were refused. Immediately afterwards, however, a group of four people arrived without a reservation and were then given one of the free tables. We found it particularly disappointing that our repeated unsuccessful attempts to reserve a table by phone or email were completely ignored by the service staff. Instead of looking for a solution for us, the other group was immediately accommodated – but we weren't. It's a real shame, as we were looking forward to a visit. Unfortunately, that's not how you treat guests.

It was amazing. When you eat there and step inside, it's visually like a journey back in time. Anyone with fond memories of GDR products is invited to relive those memories. The menu supports this with its high quality. Solyanka, spiced meat, brawn, mustard eggs, hunter's schnitzel, etc., makes my mouth water again. We absolutely recommend it, especially with such cool service.

We happened upon this place by chance on a warm Saturday afternoon and found a seat outside. Due to the current construction work on Karli, it was pleasantly quiet, with no trams passing by. We liked the selection of dishes on the menu; much of it was truly reminiscent of bygone, real-socialist times. The service was friendly, and most importantly, the food was top-notch home cooking, attractively presented, and delicious. One thing struck me: In a place like this, I would have really preferred a Saxon beer on tap, rather than just Czech. Still, a definite recommendation!

There was even a special children's menu, but even here, special requests could be accommodated 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 You can discover beautiful decor and find something to smile about. We were able to get a table spontaneously on a Saturday evening (we had called beforehand).

A very special restaurant. The ambiance is fantastic. A collection of everything. The Königsberger Klopse are absolutely fantastic.

The staff was very nice and friendly, but unfortunately the fried potatoes were hard and tasted old, as was the schnitzel, which had no flavor…more like a ready-made schnitzel. The beef roulade tasted good, but the red cabbage was just as hard and floury. The downstairs interior was unfortunately very dirty and full of flies and cobwebs. We personally wouldn't go back.

A beautifully decorated restaurant with an authentic GDR atmosphere, yet without glorifying the GDR – just right. The food is absolutely typical of the GDR and tastes truly excellent. The wait time was also pleasantly short, allowing you to enjoy your meal quickly and in a relaxed manner. An all-around successful visit – if you want to experience this special era through culinary means, this is the place to be.

My favorite pub on Karli. We go there so often and always find something to eat. I loved the cabbage roll. They always have spiced meat, too. It's exactly our kind of food. The service was super friendly. Thank you.

I was on a day trip to Leipzig with my son and his girlfriend. Since we're "GDR fans," we chose this restaurant. The food was delicious, and the staff were super friendly. We really liked it, especially since the restaurant is also a small museum with lots of great memorabilia from our own GDR childhood. We had roast pork with sauerkraut, steak au four, Königsberger Klopse, and "Kalten Hund" (cold dog) for dessert. We highly recommend everything. 👍🏼😊

We visited the Kollektiv restaurant again today, and it was fantastic again! We had sauerkraut soup and tomato salad for starters, followed by Königsberger Klopse (a German meatball) and pork cheeks for main course, and it was simply so good; you can tell the love and care goes into the cooking! We were particularly impressed by the quality of the ingredients. The staff were also incredibly friendly and attentive, which made the visit even more enjoyable. In short: a perfect visit to a true Leipzig insider tip. We will definitely be back and want to make it a tradition when we make the 500+ km journey to Leipzig.

A wonderful, nostalgic restaurant in an old-fashioned GDR style with delicious food from grandma's time. The Szeged goulash and Königsberger meatballs were simply a hit. I definitely have to come back to try the other dishes on the menu.

The service staff is super friendly, and the ambiance is lovingly decorated—full of retro charm. The red draft beer here, for example, Leninschweiss (Lenin's Sweat)… very original and ideal for fun evenings with family and friends.

Absolutely. Large portions at a fair price – I'd happily come back to try the rest of the extensive menu. We had Jägerschnitzel with spirelli and original tomato sauce – delicious! Thuringian Rostbrätl (a kind of meaty dish, just like in pre-coronavirus times) – and, vegetarian, cheese wedges on potato wedges with cucumber quark... all highly recommended.

An extremely unfriendly waiter yelled at us beyond measure because we sat outside in the summer without going in first and asking for permission at the counter. Apparently, he considered this unusual. We were more than surprised by his behavior. He also loudly informed us that the kitchen had closed five minutes ago (8:50 p.m.) and that we were no longer getting any food. He told us in a rude tone that we should order a drink or leave. His colleague, also visibly irritated by his colleague's behavior, then gave us friendly recommendations for other restaurants. Amazing!

We got our meals very quickly. The food was quite tasty, but the fried potatoes were soaked in fat, probably a bit lying around. The service was very nice, cultured. Good place When we were in Essen we were very quick to respond. The Essen was very helpful, but the Brattoffel was very tasty and had a few mistakes. The service was very friendly and helpful. A good choice.

I last visited this restaurant two years ago. I was actually satisfied then. But unfortunately, not this time. The fried potatoes were burnt and inedible, and the portion size was small. They were also not seasoned at all. The steak au four and the solyanka were still delicious.

There was enough space, but they didn't give us a table because they didn't know whether those who had reserved and were due to arrive in 30 minutes would want to sit outside or inside. I've never experienced anything like that before. Apparently, they were expecting VIPs.

A cool restaurant concept for nostalgics and those interested. There are many details to see and remember. Unfortunately, the service was really poor. We weren't exactly welcomed with open arms, even though there were a few tables available, and we had to wait a long time...for our order...for the "delivery"...for refills (empty glasses were acknowledged with a smile - without any initiative), and for payment. A shame for the unique impression of passing travelers.

To be honest, I was expecting more nostalgia for the East. But that's just my opinion. The decor upstairs was sparse. The food is okay. In the GDR era, they wouldn't have served burnt roulade. Unfortunately, you could taste it. The fried potatoes were bland and flavorless. But the service, from the area between Seattle and Canada, was excellent!

You walk in and you're immediately in a "corner pub in the GDR," and I mean that in a positive sense. Service is friendly and fast, the food is delicious and absolutely GDR.

A week ago, we were at the Kollektiv restaurant with friends. I can only say it was a nostalgic GDR experience. We still recognized many of the decor. The food was typical of the GDR era and delicious. We thought the evening was simply fantastic.

We've been in the area several times, and today we finally went. We just happened to be there and were lucky to find a spot. Everything was reserved, and the nice lady at the front desk showed us to a table. So, here you can be transported back to the GDR era. The furnishings of this collective restaurant are decorated in GDR charm. Even the dishes on the menu. Everything evokes memories of delicious food from the GDR era. The service was very friendly and fast. So if you want to experience it for yourself, feel free to stop by. But don't forget to make a reservation. 😃☝️ It's worth recommending.

Pure Ostalgie (nostalgia for the GDR) and definitely a MUST-DO when in Leipzig! 100% recommendation!! We had a wonderful evening at this location. Everything was truly reminiscent of the GDR. I can judge this as I am an Ossi child. The interior was fantastic; I had sooooo many childhood memories. The food was excellent (hearty cuisine) and tasted like I remember it from back then. We had four different starters, main courses, and desserts to try as much as possible. Everything was top-notch!!! The staff was extremely friendly and on the ball. Reservations recommended!

I don't think I've ever felt as welcome with children as I do here. The service staff was simply super relaxed and accommodating and, above all, super relaxed and nice. We made reservations as a slightly larger group and I would recommend that. The atmosphere is typical GDR and rustic. The food was excellent, full meals at a great price, very fresh and tasty. The chef knows something about his work. The cocktails were also really tasty. We will definitely come back when we are back in town.

First of all, the most important thing: you should make a reservation. If you're lucky, you can be unlucky. The restaurant impresses with its retro charm and “food like mother/grandma’s” in the 80s. Even if you're a Wessi, you'll recognize a lot of the decor and the menu. The quality of the food is very good and the portions are quite large. Everything is freshly cooked and the service is very friendly and attentive. Since there are some narrow stairs inside, you have to reserve a table in the front part if you have restrictions, you can also sit outside. We'd love to come back.

If you would like to visit this location in the evening, an early reservation is recommended. Reservations are not mandatory during the day.
