Wow! Everything is just perfect here! But be careful when approaching. Don't let the navigation system lead you astray, or you'll end up on a cycle path. 🫣 The food was plentiful and delicious, and everything went together perfectly. On cooler days or at different times of year, remember to dress warmly; it's a castle cellar, and it can be a bit chilly depending on where you're sitting. The service, however, was very friendly and attentive.

The ambiance is simply fantastic, which is why I enjoy going there. The menu has several vegetarian dishes, which I really like. Unfortunately, the vegetarian dishes could be improved. I think (but I don't know) that the core competency still lies in meat.

Based on a recommendation from our vacation home owner, we reserved a table by phone. The contact was very pleasant. When we visited the restaurant, the very friendly and attentive staff took great care of us. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. We won't go there again! We've known Badenburg for a while. It's our first stop when we go on longer walks with our dogs. However, the food was never as bad as it was yesterday, and my wife's afterwards. I was already seriously concerned about the tough meat and the pudding-like, indeterminate-colored sauce. However, unlike my wife, who ate a salad, I didn't feel sick. It's been 24 hours now. The aftertaste of the salad dressing lingers in my head. If only the dogs had been given some water...

We really enjoyed our meal here. The ambiance is lovely. The service was very friendly, and the food was also delicious. 😋. We would happily recommend this restaurant and will return if we're ever in the area again.

A quaint place with a slightly dated menu. Portions are overly generous (you can have them wrapped), and the taste isn't great. It's not expensive! The road there is dusty and bumpy on both sides, especially for cyclists.

During my last visit last week, the following happened: 1. The bucket/shovel of filth was completely unseasoned, bland, and tasted like a pigsty! Quality meat is different. 2. The garlic dip for €3.50 in a plastic cup was also just mayonnaise with garlic granules. It tasted sour and unpleasant! 3. A dog was even allowed to come barking into the dining room, sit on the bench/chair, and was fed by guests from the table. I told the waitress, who only brought the dog a blanket. I found it disgusting! 4. They don't accept credit card payments. Upon inquiry, the answer was: it's always worked so far! Credit card payments are not possible for foreign guests!

Generally, the ambiance was very good. The service this evening was forgetful but attentive! When it came to paying: How would you like to pay? By card... -The card didn't work by hanging up. Oh, you have to insert it. -Inserting it didn't work either. What kind of card is that? EC card Yes, EC card doesn't work. Oh, by the way, Visa doesn't work either; you can only pay in cash. Hello!? Conclusion: It's enough for the next few years! Too bad!!!

Very good food at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the furniture isn't the best (dirty seat covers), so one of our companions, wearing white trousers, had to swap chairs to avoid getting stained.

The food was average. It was supposed to be grilled, but it obviously wasn't. Another downside was that paying was quite difficult. Visa isn't accepted, and tips are cash only.

The Badenburg in Giessen has been my first choice for celebrating my birthday for years. Yesterday, we once again felt completely at home: The historic, lovingly designed ambiance immediately creates a festive atmosphere, while the attentive, friendly and unobtrusive service fulfills every wish. The appetizers always surprise with fresh, creative flavors; the main course showed a slight shift in nuance last time, but the quality remained at the usual high level. As always, I award it a full five stars for consistently top-notch cuisine, warm hospitality, and an all-round harmonious package! Oh yes, you can finally pay by card here too ;-)

Well, what can I say? I've never eaten so badly. First and last time...

Great ambiance, fantastic location. The Badenburger Rittelkeller is a truly fantastic restaurant. Upon entering, you're greeted by a hall with a fireplace and chandelier. There are also other rooms worth seeing where you can sit. The service was very friendly but inattentive. I sat for ages with my empty beer glass, and no one asked if I wanted another drink. Even when I ordered a Burggeist beer after dinner, no one asked, and no one asked when it was served. It's a shame. However, the price for half a liter of Krombacher (€5.90) ​​is already exorbitant! Now for the food: I ordered a scoop of filth with a baked potato, sour cream, and coleslaw. The baked potato with sour cream was amazing! The coleslaw was okay, but nothing special. Now for the meat: It was 2 1/2 slices of pork belly. It seemed to have been left over from the day before and simply reheated. The meat was dry, tough, and lukewarm. There was no sign of a crust. All in all, the price of €16.90 wasn't justified for the quality of the food. It's still reasonable for the amount. But quality and quantity should be balanced. This dish only comes with a "loaf of white bread," which seemed to have been warmed up. Sorry, I didn't try it, but I saw it on the plates. I didn't find it appetizing. All in all, the Badenburger Ritterkeller is a place you really should visit. Something special. However, the food really needs some work. Making a good roast pork that's juicy and fresh isn't difficult! The same goes for the attentiveness of the service staff. The question: Would you like something to drink? Can't be that difficult. In my case, another restaurant owner was happy to take my money.

We were there on June 17, 2025. A beautiful, wildly romantic spot. Rustically decorated, and the Lahn River flows below. Buckets of bones nibbling are part of the experience. 😅 A friendly young waitress. RESPECT 👍 for how she navigates the worn steps. The food was quite okay. Too much on the plate, it looked overloaded and not very appetizing. All in all, an unforgettable evening. 🍺🍽

This was my first visit to the Badenburg. Very nice ambiance, both inside and outside the restaurant, in the middle of nowhere. I had the bucket with bones and garlic sauce. The meat was unfortunately a bit dry, but excellently seasoned and, combined with the sauce, very tasty and filling. I would have loved to try the mushrooms, perhaps next time. If you like rustic food, you'll get your money's worth here.

I've been here several times now. I started as a child with my parents and continued as an adult. Today we were here with four people. I celebrated passing my exam. The atmosphere was great, as was the food and service. But then, after two hours, we were asked to vacate the table because someone else had already reserved. We had also made a reservation and had just finished the main course. I would have liked dessert and a Burggeist (a ghost). It's ridiculous to be thrown out of a reserved table!!! Especially when everything was still free in the other rooms. Absolutely unacceptable. And then the payment method... Cash only or debit card? Most banks no longer accept debit cards; they're being phased out. Should I wash dishes in the kitchen next time? In the age of digitalization, this urgently needs to be adjusted. This was definitely, unfortunately, our last visit for a while.

Had an amazing time here. The whole vibe and decore take you back to 200 years ago. The food is delicious, and the service was great. Highly recommended.

The garlic soup was a really delicious starter. The main course was a mess. Inedible grease with dry meat. The baguette was delicious, as was the garlic butter. The coleslaw, at least, wasn't my taste. But the service was great!

I've lived in the Giessen area for over 20 years now, and today was the very first time I noticed this restaurant. We were lucky enough to get a table today with four people, despite not having a reservation. I really like the ambiance. The waiters are very friendly and interested in the well-being of the guests. Due to the design of the building, there's no reception inside, which naturally has a positive effect on the atmosphere. About the food: We are more than thrilled!!! The taste is impeccable, and the portion sizes are more than justified—I'd almost say very generous for the price. You can't complain at all. All in all, the visit was more than successful. We'd love to come back!

We used to eat there often, but unfortunately, it can't be compared to today! The food was very bad. We had the minced meat pan with rosemary potatoes. The minced meat was very fatty, and the potatoes weren't cooked through; you couldn't cut them with a knife! The bones for several people were all burnt, and there was no meat on them. We complained about these. They then brought us new ones, and we had to wait... unfortunately, they didn't allow us to have the second loaf of bread on our behalf. We had eaten the others while we were waiting! The service was a disaster... empty glasses weren't cleared away, and our table wasn't cleared when we finished our food; our entire table was full. And there were two waitresses there, and not much going on in their area. We couldn't pay with cash at the table either; we had to go to the cashier, but there was no one there! We waited there for 15 minutes, then went downstairs to find the lady, who couldn't understand! Honestly, never again, not even after so many years. Our friends who were there are in the restaurant industry. Word will get around: we paid a lot of money for a poor evening in terms of food and service.

Food was expensive and just not good..the ambience was not good at first we sat very dark and cold...but after repositioning outside, it was very nice to sit there..but yes for the food, it was very dull bit better than from a swimming pool kiosk.

Were there again after a long time, very disappointing. Mushrooms warmed up in cream sauce are okay, but the mushrooms tasted like they came from a jar. The meat on the shovel was super dry and there was hardly any meat on the bones and they weren't good either. Could have been from the day before. To make matters worse, the chef apparently spread pepper over it with a tablespoon and had to scrape it down first. Only the baked potato was as you would expect. I won't go there anymore, it's not worth it. Prices would have been good if the food wasn't so bad.

Unfortunately, the taste of the schnitzel with mushroom sauce was a disaster - the sauce was artificial and the meat was completely dry. The spare ribs we had were also disappointing: hardly any meat, but fatty bones and an overall lackluster impression. We were really looking forward to the meal but were disappointed. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the restaurant in this condition.

Visited again recently after many years at the castle. It was very disappointing! Coach schnitzel and sirloin like rubber and rock hard. Also cut way too thick. It can be assumed that there was a change of tenant. Thanks, no. There were 5 of us. - oh yes - baguette, garlic sauce and garlic soup were very good

Were here for the first time today for information, Google Maps navigation was a disaster and leads to nothing. The food in the Badenburg is ok, I can't complain for the price, the conditions were all very nice, our dog was allowed in and given water. The area around the restaurant needs a general overhaul

Six of us were there for dinner. My goulash soup as an appetizer was apparently microwaved; it was hot on the outside and cold in the middle. The sirloin steak with coleslaw was good. The bucket with bones is not recommended; both buckets with bones had almost no meat left on the bones. The service staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Great restaurant with a special flair. The waitresses were all very friendly and helpful. Despite the full house, there wasn't a long wait. The portions are very tasty, large and the quality is top notch. It makes sense to reserve a table. A reunion is planned.

The food was anything but good! The pork meat from both the "bone" and the "shovel of dirt" was dry, hard and simply smelled OLD. The problem was brought to the attention of the waiter, who really tried hard. According to Koch, the delivery was on Thursday and completely fine. Despite my request to smell the meat, they didn't want to do this. We were offered ice cream to take away but we declined. Conclusion: Meat that smelled and was hard. Never again for us

For people who can no longer see the modern, chic Micki, it's the best place to unwind while eating/drinking/meeting. The lady from the service was very friendly and accommodating. The inn is beautiful! And the food was excellent, we'll be back. We had the castle bones (fantastic!!)

If we get married again, unfortunately we won't be able to reserve a table in the Badenburg afterwards. We made reservations six months in advance and agreed on the details and made sure again two months in advance whether it would all work out, you only get married once and you're excited. But unfortunately the things that were important to us were not kept as discussed, only empty promises were made. We were really disappointed and dissatisfied after our dinner right after our civil wedding. I had to squeeze into the booth with my legs pressed in my wide wedding dress and couldn't sit opposite my husband, whom I had married 30 minutes before, as previously agreed. As a bride, I felt very uncomfortable. We were welcomed every now and then and decorated the table ourselves; we would have been happy about a little attention or a “befitting” greeting. The fact that we got married beforehand and were with our favorite people saved our mood at that moment, and we've now digested the rest after a year. The basic idea was of course that we would be able to come to Badenburg every year on our wedding anniversary and remember the beautiful evening we enjoyed after our wedding, but that won't happen. We didn't have anyone to contact, so I'm taking the opportunity to write this review. The food was okay, so the kitchen gets 3 stars from me. We personally like the ambience, which is why we chose this restaurant, but in the future we would rather drive a few kilometers further to really experience the medieval feeling. And unfortunately the service doesn't get a point or star from me at this point in view of this evening.

Quantity instead of class. The cheapest pork from Poland is probably processed here wholesale. This is known for its very strong taste. Were there with a group. All dishes containing pork in any form were inedible. The spareribs (bucket of bones) were also missing the meat that should be between the ribs. Only the cartilage at the end was very generous. Very strange. Whether leftovers from slaughter are bought and processed here? Interestingly enough, the restaurant was full to the last table that evening. The clientele consisted of around 80% of people of clear Russian origin. They seem to like it there. The prices for food and drink were low or appropriate for the quality. I'd rather pay a little more in the future and save myself the hassle of the poor quality of the food.

Schönes Ambiente und freundliche Bedienung können über die schlechte Qualität des Essens nicht hinwegtäuschen. Während die Vorspeisen gut waren, entpuppte sich die Schaufel Dreck als offensichtlich aufgewärmtes und kaum gegrilltes Stück Fleisch mit einer matschigen Ofenkartoffel und hat damit ihren Namen verdient. Mein Gegenüber hat von den nicht sehr frisch aussehenden Knochen 3 Stück gegessen und dann aus geschmacklichen Gründen aufgegeben.

It was way too loud! There was a 40 person family celebration in the room where the four of us sat. As a result, no consideration was given to us (speeches etc. were given). I could only shout at each other with the two people across from me if they wanted to talk about something. When we asked if we could sit somewhere else because it was too loud, we were simply told that they didn't have any other seats available. But then I didn't bring four strangers into the room with me for a family celebration like that and we also had reservations. I didn't think that was ok The taste of the food was good (loin) but unfortunately it was only lukewarm and too dry. Schnitzel and the minced leek pot were delicious.

Hello, I have made a reservation for 9 people on Saturday evening. First there was a problem with the tables; we were seated at a table for six people. After over 20 minutes the problem was resolved. The order was placed and we waited for over an hour for the food, 1.5 hours to be exact. The food was average, nothing special. The waiters hardly came to ask if we needed anything. P.S. We were also given the wrong food at the table, which was picked up again after over 5 minutes.

We would like to highly recommend this restaurant to you. The ambience is very nice and goes perfectly with knightly food, both in summer and winter. The service is extremely friendly and the food is served quickly. We would particularly recommend the “Schippe Dreck”, which is served with bread or baked potatoes. The "Burggeist" (schnapps) is served flambéed with the lights turned off, which gives the ambience a special atmosphere. Payment is possible both in cash and by card. There are sufficient parking spaces available on site. A clear recommendation!

The location is great, it's not too bright, which creates a rustic atmosphere and with all the old armor and tools the ambience is complete! I've never been disappointed with the food or service and I've been there easily 10 times.

Small drawback! We have been coming to your restaurant every year on December 25th for over 20 years - a tradition that we greatly appreciate and that we are happy to recommend to others. Even well-known companies have organized their company celebrations at your place based on our recommendation. The food and castle bones were, as usual, outstanding. It's rare to find such a good stay at these prices, and that's exactly why part of our group is happy to accept a 3-hour drive. Unfortunately, on our last visit the service was not as satisfactory as usual. Drinks and food took significantly longer this time, which was particularly surprising with the drinks (for example, the Burggeist took about 20 minutes). We were also denied the traditional final pin, albeit just barely, because it was the end of the day. Of course we understood this, but we think that perhaps a little more flexibility would be appropriate for regular guests in such a situation. In previous years we were always 100% satisfied and expressed this with generous tips. We very much hope that the usual excellent service that has delighted us for so many years will return. Thank you for the many great moments so far – we look forward to continuing this tradition!

Was invited there last night and was there for the first time. On the way there I was a little doubtful at first whether this was the right way to the castle, but then the rustic walls appeared in the dark. Every table inside was occupied, so be sure to reserve. The food was great and cheap, the ambience of the castle fits perfectly and makes the visit an experience. We'd love to come back.

Unfortunately we had to wait almost 2 hours for our food. During this time we had ordered drinks and re-ordered them, but some of them took a while to arrive. The food wasn't completely cooked through: at least the potatoes were still partly hard and not cooked through. Meat hard, dry and poorly seasoned. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was perfect.
