Titel: Sehr enttäuschend – Nicht empfehlenswert Ich kann dieses Restaurant absolut nicht empfehlen. Das empfohlene Gericht (Schweinshaxe) war von schlechter Qualität, roch stark und war nicht frisch. Besonders unangenehm war der Umgang mit dem Thema Trinkgeld. Obwohl Trinkgeld in Deutschland freiwillig ist, wurden wir vom Inhaber in einer sehr unangemessenen und bedrohlichen Weise unter Druck gesetzt. Ein solches Verhalten gegenüber Gästen ist absolut inakzeptabel. Ich kann nur jedem raten, dieses Lokal zu meiden.

Fleisch war trocken und viel zuviel Pfeffer darauf. Rindfleisch verdient eine andere Zubereitung.

Unfassbar unfreundliche Bedienung. Einmal und nie wieder.

Super, aber wieso gibt es keine Pommes? Es war rundum super, tolles Personal, gutes Essen.

Akzeptiert für die meisten Bestellungen keine Debit- oder Kreditkarten. Reagierte genervt, als ich trotzdem mit Karte zahlen wollte (ich habe keine spezielle deutsche Karte). Außerdem schaute ein älterer Herr lautstark Videos im Restaurant, und das Personal unternahm nichts. Das Essen war aber in Ordnung.

Das war ein besonderes Abendessen für uns . Das essen war sehr gut und passt sehr gut zum ambiente, etwas freundlicher könnte mann sein aber gehört evtl einfach dazu Ich würde es jedefalls jedem empfehlen der dort is da mal zu essen

Uriges, fränkisches Restaurant. Oder ist es eine Skihütte in den Bergen Bayerns? Ich bin unsicher. Ganz sicher aber: Absolutes Wohlfühlambiente. Essen war super lecker, eine kleine Auswahl vegetarischer Gerichte war vorhanden, traditionell geht’s hier aber eher um fleischlastige fränkische Küche. Die Schnitzel waren super, Kotelett und Spargel des Kollegen auch. Service freundlich und gut, auch für internationale Gäste. Preislich auch absolut im Rahmen. Ich werd den alten Simpel weiterempfehlen!

Leckeres Essen und gute Portionen!

Das Grillfleisch war auf den Punkt gegart und sehr lecker mariniert. Ein Wirtshaus mit sehr urigem Ambiente. Auf dem Bild ist mein angeschnittenes Grillfleisch + extra Bratkartoffeln, die schön knusprig waren.

Ein kleines, beschauliches und sehr schönes Restaurant mit freundlicher Bedienung, dass gerade im Frühjahr und an Sommermorgenden zu einer kleinen Weißwurst oder einem anderen kleinen Brotzeitschmaus einlädt. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Bin 3 mal hier gewesen und jetzt kann ich gern die 5 Sterne geben. Reservierung geht es per Email ganz unkomplitziert, man hat genug Platz am Tisch, service ist wunderbar, und das Essen hat mir immer geschmeckt. Weiter so!

Es liegt nicht an der Sprache oder mangelnder Kommunikation. Es liegt am Kundenservice und Ihrer Geschäftseinstellung. Wenn man in einer kleinen, idyllischen Stadt nur wenige Konkurrenten hat, wird man schnell arrogant und undankbar gegenüber den Kunden. Sie sind unhöflich und arrogant und reagieren nicht tolerant auf negative Bewertungen. Meiden Sie sie unbedingt! Es gibt deutlich bessere Alternativen. In den USA wären sie schon bald pleite.

Liebes „alter Simpl“ Team, Vielen lieben Dank für meine wunderschöne Geburtstagsfeier. Ich habe mich sehr wohl gefühlt…das Essen war sehr lecker, die Bedienung super und mit DJ wurde alles abgerundet. Macht weiter so 😉

Servicewüste Deutschland ? Gastronomie - Zum Glück nicht überall ! Ich war gestern zu einer Geburtstagsfeier –geschlossene Gesellschaft- im alten Simpl in Erlangen eingeladen. An unserem Tisch wurden mehrmals Getränkebestellungen aufgegeben. Als uns die männliche Servicekraft eine Flasche Wasser brachte, bat ich spontan um einen „Verdauungs-Willi“ Daraufhin schaute er mich wütend an und unterstellte mir, ich wolle ihn schickanieren. Er hätte doch bei der letzten Bestellung gefragt, ob jemand noch etwas wolle. Daran konnte ich mich nicht mehr erinnern, vielleicht war ich im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten auch etwas unaufmerksam gewesen oder meine Schwerhörigkeit hat die Frage überhören lassen. Ich bat ihn um Verzeihung und daß er die Bestellung vergessen könne. Dies tat er dann auch vollumfänglich. Es folgte eine „Kollektivstrafe“: Im weiteren Abendverlauf verzichtete er darauf auch den anderen Gästen am Tisch seine Serviceleistung zur Verfügung zu stellen. Den zweiten Stern gibt es für die nette weibliche Servicekraft und das gute Essen. Ich möchte mich noch einmal auf diesem Wege aufrichtig für meine Unverschämtheit bestellen zu wollen entschuldigen und verspreche nie wieder eine Servicekraft durch aufsuchen des Lokal alter Simpl zu belästigen. Edit nach Antwort: @Alter Simpl: Alle an unserem Tisch hatten dieselbe Wahrnehmungsstörung hinsichtlich Ihrer Servicekraft. Den "Gastgebern" hatten wir nichts gesagt, um deren Feierlaune nicht zu verderben. Mein Versprechen gilt weiterhin: Wir werden Ihre Servicekraft nie wieder belästigen und Sie nicht mit meinen speziellen Wahrnehmungsstörungen alterieren. (Tip: sprechen Sie doch mal mit Ihrer Servicekraft statt mit Ihren Gastgebern)

Wir haben gerade, aufgrund überraschend aufkommenden Appetits beim Lesen der Speisen vor der Tür, eine Sülze mit Bratkartoffeln zum Mitnehmen bestellt. Mit einem Wort, grandios! Toller, unheimlich netter Service beim Bestellen, Sonderwünsche kein Problem UND die Sülze ein absoluter Traum, besser geht's nicht, Dankeschön. Bis bald, dann gesund und als Gäste im Lokal!!!!

Der Simpl ist eine Institution. Buchenholz. Geniales Fleisch. Steinbach Bier. Ultra unterhaltsame Bedienungen. Immer Sommer super schön draußen sitzen, im Winter innen flauschig dank Feuergrill. Das ist fränkisches Kulturgut!

Köstliches Abendessen und super Bier! Der Service ist fantastisch, immer freundlich. Wir hatten die Schweineschulter, und sie war superlecker. Ich komme wieder.

Man fühlt sich wie im Wintersporturlaub! Die Einrichtung ist charmant. Die Gerichte sind einfach, aber köstlich und typisch für die Region.

Eine hervorragende Wahl für ein typisch deutsches Restaurant. Es war das einzige in Erlangen, in dem ich einen Grill gesehen habe, und das macht es zu etwas Besonderem. Unter anderem gibt es Augustiner Bier. Die Speisekarte bietet eine gute und abwechslungsreiche Auswahl. Das Dessert mit Äpfeln, Eis und Zimt zum Teilen ist sensationell! Absolut empfehlenswert!

Das Essen war ok für den Preis und hat geschmeckt. Leider war der Service allerdings sehr unfreundlich. Hatte mich an einen Platz an der Türe gesetzt, da es sonst sehr eng war. Wurde dann von der Bedienung forsch auf einen anderen Platz geschickt. Hatte da nicht verstanden warum überhaupt ein Stuhl an der Stelle steht… Essen dauerte lange und die Begründung der Bedienung war „dass die in der Küche uns ignorieren“. Fand ich etwas unpssend dafür dass kaum etwas los war und wir lange warten mussten. Beim Zahlen hatte ich dann nett gefragt ob auch Karte möglich ist und bekam wieder forsch die Antwort einer anderen Bedienung mit „wenn es unbedingt sein muss“. Fand ich ziemlich unfreundlich dafür dass ich Trinkgeld gezahlt habe, lange auf das Essen gewartet habe und insgesamt nicht gut bedient wurde. Wenn ein Restaurant halb leer ist um 14:00 Uhr und man trotzdem lange wartet ohne sich zu beschweren, kann man ein wenig mehr Höflichkeit erwarten. Dachte mir dass ich als Koch oder Inhaber ziemlich sauer wäre, das so zu sehen von Bedienungen da das Essen eigentlich gut geschmeckt hat, leider aber meiner Meinung wenig bringt wenn man sich unfreundlich bedient fühlt.

Zünftige Gaststätte, Bedienung ist leider ein ziemlicher unsympat, gerade wenn man als unter 40 Jähriger dort ist.

Ausgezeichnetes Essen, toller und freundlicher Service. Wenn wir das nächste Mal in Erlangen sind, kommen wir auf jeden Fall wieder; es gibt in letzter Zeit nur wenige deutsche Restaurants.

I celebrated my farewell party there with 19 people. It was really quaint and lovely to celebrate undisturbed in our own private room! The service and food were fantastic. Highly recommended!!

Unfortunately, I discovered yesterday that single diners are not welcome. If you try to reserve by phone beforehand, you're told, somewhat amusedly, that it's not necessary. But if you show up without a reservation, you're told it's not worth it for just one person. Sadly, I had to leave without eating. A real shame, considering the food is truly excellent.

Great place! Very rustic in its decor—but that's precisely what makes this place so charming. But of course, the food was delicious. If it weren't 260 km away—we'd go there more often!

A small but distinctive café. Everything is traditional: wooden tables and chairs, photos, souvenirs, and even glasses on the walls. There's also an oven right there for everyone to see, where they cook sausages and other grilled meats. A very pleasant atmosphere, a cozy place. Even on a Monday, there were plenty of people; every seat was taken, but the staff managed to keep up. I also enjoyed the food; everything was delicious.

The restaurant in the center is a real gem for every connoisseur of good cuisine and authentic atmosphere. From the first step inside, you can feel the old, typical style, which creates coziness and a sense of tradition, and the beautiful interior complements the experience with attention to detail. She prepared us leberkez which they cooked on a wooden fireplace right in front of us, which makes the visit even more exciting. The meats are juicy, perfectly baked and extremely tasty. Home-style cooking, a very rustic atmosphere... I ordered a simple chicken breast with a portion of potato salad...the menu didn't indicate that the salad contained bacon...absolutely unacceptable. The restaurant is very busy, so reservations are definitely recommended. The staff are rather grumpy...

I've eaten here several times with friends, and it's clear that we've been here many times. It's Franconian, cozy, with a great ambiance, friendly service, and excellent food. I highly recommend eating here and enjoying the atmosphere in the various rooms.

A traditional Erlangen restaurant with delicious Franconian and international dishes. Everything is freshly prepared. The rustic ambiance is definitely recommended. However, the service could be more attentive at times. After the city of Erlangen raised parking fees to the maximum, it's unfortunately no longer worthwhile for drivers to drive before 7 p.m. I can't understand why Erlangen's restaurateurs and residents/guests are putting up with this purely ideologically motivated political behavior. This is how the city center is dying.

Second time visiting Erlangen and simply a must-visit. A truly quaint, authentic restaurant.

Be careful! Based on my review, the owner, who isn't open to criticism, will give unfriendly answers... I've never experienced such an unfriendly waiter. Very rude and brazen, which is why it only gets one star!

We were there as a group. Our reservation request was answered quickly, even though it was on short notice. It was really busy that day, so I'm very grateful that it worked out. Franconian cuisine is becoming increasingly less popular, and especially in such a rustic setting, it's fantastic. There's also a great outdoor seating area. The service was exceptionally good and attentive; you don't find that everywhere these days. We'd love to come back!

We ate a very tasty salad, and there was plenty of it. It's nice to sit outside. The staff were very friendly. The price/performance ratio was absolutely perfect.

We came here for lunch with a whole group. The shoulder of pork was good, as was the schnitzel. The sirloin was too tough and seared too hot. Many dishes were already sold out by lunchtime.

The oxtail is both tasty and mildly seasoned. The service is first-class. The restaurant is clean. The best meal of the week for an afternoon snack.

Making a reservation was straightforward, which is a positive. The menu, however, is heavily meat-heavy – vegetarian options are available, but they feel more like a requirement. Unfortunately, the atmosphere in the restaurant was very chilly, and waiting 15 minutes for a beer doesn't leave a good impression. Overall, it was disappointing, and even the okay food doesn't really help.

I highly recommend this restaurant; in my opinion, it's the most beautiful and one of the best in Erlangen. The interior is very cozy, with beautiful half-timbering and lots of wood, and the terrace by the church is a wonderful, cozy spot. TOP!

I really enjoyed the restaurant and the overall vibe! You definitely have to try their Schäufele(a german dish). It’s not the most unique dish, but it’s absolutely worth tasting. Their schnitzels are also excellent. Plus, the waiters were genuinely friendly. Highly recommend!

We visited this restaurant with friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the service spoiled the experience. The elderly waiter was extremely unfriendly and hostile. We had to wait a long time for our drinks, and there were problems with our orders. When we ordered steak tartare, he was outraged that three people ordered the same dish and refused to bring extra cutlery. Perhaps he was annoyed that we didn't order much food, but other tables had people just drinking beer and not ordering anything else, and everything was fine there. We were shocked by this treatment. Even though the food and drinks were delicious, we don't want to return for this reason. I hope management takes this issue seriously.

If you're looking for something to do with typical regional cuisine, this is the place to be. Upstairs, you'll find an old dormitory. The service is a bit rough, but all the more warm and authentic 😉. The food is delicious, cooked with love and plenty of experience. Delicious best describes it – for anyone who enjoys local, meaty cuisine. We'd be happy to return!

Ni e traditional restaurant where they also serve sausages from the charcoal grill. Service was okay. The service person seemed to be a bit grumpy, but food was tasty. We had to go inside to pay as they didn't really took care of the guests sitting outside. Overall though a very good place to eat and drink.

On May 30, 2025, we celebrated a big class reunion here (58th high school graduation). Almost everyone traveled from far away. Everyone was thrilled with the excellent food, the friendly and fast service, and the quaint atmosphere. Everyone wants to come back. Thank you for such a successful evening.
