We were here once for a meal and once just for drinks. The food was superb, top quality, and the service was friendly and pleasant. I especially appreciated the recommendations for dishes not on the menu. The price-performance ratio was perfect.

Simply perfect. It was the perfect start to our wedding day. The food was amazing. The duck was incredibly tender, and the roulade was second to none. The desserts were fantastic, and the service was very attentive and warm. I will definitely recommend it, and we'll gladly come back. I'm curious to see what our daughter thinks of the pasta. During our visit to Idstein, we received a very warm and friendly welcome at the Gasthof zur Peif. The service was exceptionally kind and attentive, and the food was beautifully prepared, served quickly, and absolutely delicious. The portions were just right and reasonably priced. Fresh, crusty, good white bread with olive oil was served as a cover charge. Delicious, regional vegetarian specialties! Definitely the top recommendation in Idstein!

Nothing has changed about the old ambiance of the Peif. The service was very friendly and accommodating. The portions were plentiful and generous. The food was generally good. The menu is varied and there should be something for everyone. The wine list is also good, although some of the bottled wines are a bit overpriced. Overall, the Peif is highly recommended. We would be happy to return.

We were here for lunch on a Sunday with 13 people and, of course, made an early reservation. Even though the restaurant was completely booked, our every request was patiently and always met with friendliness. The food was excellent, and I even had a special gluten-free and vegan menu prepared.

This inn is a special address in Idstein and an absolute must for lovers of excellent cuisine. The hosts are very friendly and attentive. The food is excellent, and a return visit is already certain. Highly recommended!

We were there for lunch and were completely thrilled! The service was attentive, charming, and immediately presented us with the menu highlights – we didn't even need the à la carte menu. Fresh bread with high-quality olive oil was a great start. Our every need was practically anticipated; I felt truly at home. The portions were perfectly sized – you can add side dishes upon request – and there's still room for the fantastic, homemade tiramisu. The location has the typical Idstein half-timbered charm, as you would expect from the old Pfeif restaurant. We'll definitely be back!

My meal was Bolognese, which I found had too much meat compared to pasta, so the main course was unfortunately too salty. We had a good time with the waiters until we left. We said goodbye but unfortunately didn't get a response from either of them. The three children from another table were too loud, and the restaurant isn't that big, so it was unpleasant to experience something like that.

Pretentious restaurant with nothing behind. Service rude and arrogant. Put us to a table, 5 minutes lazer told us it is reserved. Put us to the bar top for waiting and in the meantime pushing away 2 elderly ladies from their table making space for us. Food is under average (oversalted which is a sign of missing cooking skills) and comes in small portions. Not much value for money

They have such a warm energy that immediately makes you feel at home, which is rare to find. We ordered the steak filet, perfectly cooked and so tender it melted in your mouth, and the Rigatoni, which was bursting with rich, authentic flavor. Every bite reminded us why we love both German and Italian cuisine. And then came the grand finale, the tiramisu. Let’s just say it was not the world’s best, it was the universe’s BEST tiramisu. I think it's become very expensive, and there's plenty of Italian flair in Idstein. You can, but you don't have to.

I ate at the Gasthof zur Pfeif with my family and really enjoyed it. The food was delicious, especially my schnitzel with fries. But the best, according to my father, was the spaghetti frutti di mare – he said it was the best he'd ever eaten! The service was friendly and quick, and the restaurant is really cozy. I would definitely go again and highly recommend it.

What can I say....from the quirky interior to the wonderful staff and the amazing food SUPERB !! If you're going to Idstein please give this place a visit, I assure you, you won't be disappointed.

The service was attentive, friendly, and always with a smile – we immediately felt welcome. The food more than exceeded our expectations: We ordered the saddle of venison and were delighted. Perfectly prepared, cooked to perfection, and an absolute highlight in terms of flavor – you immediately notice the passion and high quality that goes into the food here. An all-round successful evening in a wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be back and can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant!

Hey, we were here during the SOUND OF IDSTEIN festival and sat outside right by the fountain next to the grill stand – great atmosphere! The staff were mostly very friendly and helpful. The manager and the experienced team, in particular, made a lot of effort. One small criticism: The young waiters seemed a bit inexperienced and couldn't distinguish between red and white wine – there's still room for improvement there. The local beer was really delicious and highly recommended! The ribs with BBQ dip were a real highlight – luckily, a member of staff persuaded us to try them. Big praise to the team for that! The restrooms and the entire restaurant were also very clean and well-maintained. All in all, a successful visit – we'd definitely come back! 😊

A nice restaurant in the heart of the old town. Ordering from the friendly waiter took a bit of time, and the food also took a while to arrive, but that's understandable given the busyness. Delicious food, but unfortunately, the portions were quite modest. We weren't really filled by the soup we had beforehand. It was quite dark, which was a bit difficult with my eyesight. Everything was tidy and clean, though.

We went for my mother's birthday. We had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks and over an hour for the food. It was also written that it was also suitable for vegetarian guests, which was definitely not the case. In addition, the waiters were not coordinated and unfriendly towards us, and they are also not dog-friendly. The dog barked at the service and I was told to leave the restaurant for a while. We didn't feel welcome or comfortable, the food was okay except for the very long wait, so you shouldn't visit the restaurant if you're hungry or if you want decent service.

After almost 30 years, I was in Idstein again for the Hessen Jazz. 30 years no whistle... Hard bread. But just registering online brought a smile back to me. And the evening there, with the boss, who hasn't changed at all in her 30s, was wonderful and extremely tasty. I hope to be able to return there as a guest very soon.

Clocky restaurant, great location in the historic center by the fountain. Friendly service, simple, delicious food. We had Tafelspitz with Frankfurt green sauce and pork goulash, three types of Schupfnudeln, and we really enjoyed it. Toilets are modern and clean.

Quaint restaurant in the heart of Idstein. Changing daily reports and some unusual dishes on the normal menu - all really great (as far as I've tried). The landlady speaks excellent English and was able to advise our guest from Dubai on the wines on offer. Completely satisfied and recommended!

I went into the restaurant worried that it would be a bit uncomfortable since it was a restaurant where locals gathered. As expected, there were three customers at the counter and one table. Everyone was speaking German, so I went to the counter thinking that an Asian person would be out of place. A kind-looking woman carefully explained the menu, and I ordered Dunkel, white asparagus, and Schnitzel. Pour the beer slowly until the foam settles down, and it will be very delicious and will make you look forward to the dish. All of the dishes are freshly prepared, and compared to the German food I've eaten so far, they are really fresh and have a strong flavor. The anxious atmosphere soon became relaxed and calm, and I felt like I could linger for a long time. It's about 40 minutes from Frankfurt, but the surrounding town is beautiful, and I'd definitely like to visit again, so I highly recommend it.

It is a traditional restaurant in Idstein. And this is warmly accepted by the people of Idstein. Nothing works here without a reservation. So that all tables and the long bar are usually full except for the last seat. No wonder. The home-style food is outstanding and inexpensive. There is an unusually wide range of well-kept beers. And the attentive service rounds off the range that rightly makes Peif so popular.

We were looking for a typical place to have dinner near our hotel and we found this one on the maps that had what we were looking for. The truth is that the site, due to its authenticity and architectural beauty, exceeded our expectations. Then its owner and waiters with their kindness and sympathy turned a simple dinner into a memorable moment. When we saw the locals waiting to for the restaurant to open, we knew it was worth a visit. The menu is typically German and is freshly cooked. Everything we had was delicious and well presented. I can certainly recommend the schnitzel!

I've been going to Peif regularly since 1988, with interruptions (due to a change of residence)... I've never been disappointed, because they still cook properly here and with fresh ingredients. Prices were always affordable and reasonable. There are also wonderful things to satisfy your hunger that are not available everywhere. Even if it sometimes takes longer, you are happy to understand because you can see that everyone is always trying to make it as pleasant as possible for all guests. In short, as long as the Peif exists, I will always be happy to be a guest there.

First time there and it will definitely be the last time. We were told there would be an hour wait before we could order, which was fine with us. However, it took over two hours for the food to arrive! The landlady came to the table to order drinks and reacted inappropriately to a query about the wine list, and that's when things started. It continued with the fact that the baked Camembert without fried parsley, which is part of the dish according to the menu, was not served. This was not provided even when asked. Nevertheless, the price was charged in full. A dish that I had ordered as a small portion was billed as a large portion and was not changed even when I asked. The waitress simply ignored me. Nevertheless, I gave the young man a tip, for which he didn't even thank me. He handed me the receipt with the commanding tone: "here! sign!" No please, no thank you... There seems to be a lot going wrong in this restaurant. In my opinion, the reason for this can also be seen in the operator's unreflective and unfriendly comments in the previous reviews. Friendliness and willingness to serve seem to be a foreign word to her.

Although I have been a guest at Peif several times, I was shocked by my last experience. I would strongly advise against this restaurant! The service and the quality of the food have deteriorated significantly. Waiting time for the food of more than 2 hours...if I don't have capacity in the kitchen, you can't fill all the tables. Even ordering a drink was a challenge that the waiters responded to taciturnly with annoyed snorts of contempt. You actually felt bad ordering a drink… In general, the waiter's answers to questions were extremely rude and downright rude. You were treated like you were stupid. When the food finally came after almost 3 hours, the quality was anything but satisfactory, especially for the time we waited. There was no response from the waiter or an apology. When I asked whether the food tasted good, which it didn't particularly (I honestly admitted that), the only response was: "You know that I have to tell the kitchen now?" If he doesn't want to hear my opinion, then why is he asking me??? Can't constructive and honest criticism be viewed positively? The waiter was definitely not happy that there were two separate bills at the end. When he asked who would want to pay what, he groaned more than annoyed. When a waitress pointed out that the table next door would also want to pay, she said: “Oh, they want to pay too?” THEY??? Absolutely rude term for guests especially within earshot. I wouldn't come back for now...

We were told right from the start that it would take an hour. We had no problem with that. But unfortunately it took 30 minutes until the drinks were even taken. After 2.5 hours the food finally arrived. The food is generally of very good quality. Unfortunately today it wasn't very satisfactory. The fries were basically raw, unseasoned and soaked in fat. Individual ingredients were missing (even though they were on the menu). But even that can happen. But what is bad is an inexperienced operator. Honest and constructive criticism is not addressed and only answered in a curt manner. They don't even thank you for tips (despite a 2.5 hour wait...). And even so, the interaction with the guests was very rude. In a business that relies on guests, you should place more emphasis on good service. We'll probably come back anyway. Nevertheless, we would like to readjust what has been mentioned.

Ein sehr schönes altes Fachwerkhaus, ein wirklich passender Ort für ein Restaurant. Das Haus liegt auch ganz zentral in der Altstadt von Idstein, direkt am König Adolf Platz. Am Abend ist das Haus auch sehr schön beleuchtet und das Restaurant ist gut besucht, das lässt auf eine sehr gute Küche schließen. Bei unserem nächsten Besuch in Idstein werden wir das Restaurant dann auch als Gäste besuchen.

Die Auswahl und das Essen waren sehr gut. Preisleistung stimmt. Leider war der Service unterirdisch. Wichtig ist zu unterscheiden, dass es nicht an der Bedienung lag, das arme Mädchen hat bis auf leichte Unterstützung von einem jungen Mann (der an dem Tag den 1. Arbeitstag hatte) über 50 Gäste bewirtet!!!!! Wir haben lange gewartet bis wir Getränke bestellen konnten, dann noch länger bis das Essen bestellt werden konnte. Das Essen kam nach über 1 Stunde. Die Wirtin hätte sich persönlich entschuldigen müssen, bzw vielleicht auch eine kleine Aufmerksamkeit spendieren können. Garnichts! Wir werden hier nicht mehr hingehen.

Das Essen ist super lecker, vorallem der Spargel ist wärmstens zu empfehlen. Gerne immer wieder, allerdings am liebsten im Sommer.

Wir haben sehr spät noch ein Restaurant gesucht um eine Kleinigkeit zu essen. Der Gasthof zur Pfeife war trotz der späten Stunde noch gut besucht. Wir wurden sehr freundlich in dem kleinen rustikalen Gastraum empfangen. Natürlich gab es auch noch etwas zu Essen. Ich selber habe den gebackenen Camembert mit frittierter Petersilie, Preiselbeeren und Toast gewählt. Die Vorstellung, dass man Petersilie frittiert hat mich allerdings erstmal etwas irritiert. Meiner anfänglich Skepsis folgte dann aber ein Geschmackerlebnis, dass ich nur jedem empfehlen kann. Das Lokal selber ist wie gesagt sehr rustikal in einem alten Fachwerkhaus untergebracht und schon das sorgt für Gemütlichkeit. Abgerundet wird alles mit einem sehr freundlichen und aufmerksamen Service. Wir waren rundum zufrieden.

Ambiente ist sehr schön und sauber. Das Personal war sehr freundlich aber die Bedienung extrem langsam. Wir haben auf die Karten und auf die ersten Getränke lange warten müssen (40min) es wurde auch nicht zwischendurch von sich aus nach Wünschen gefragt, obwohl alles auf dem Tisch leer war. Das Essen hat allen (10 Personen) mittelmäßig geschmeckt, irgendwie nicht genug geschmackvoll und hat ewig gedauert bis es serviert wurde. Preis-Leistung ok. Wir waren zum ersten Mal dort und hatten mehr erwartet.
