Gasthof Goldener Engel in Ihringen

We stayed at the hotel for two nights. The reason was that the Ihringer Wine Festival was taking place that weekend. The hotel is located in the center of the village, right on the street where the wine arbors and stands are set up. It was a truly wonderful experience for us. Just as we had imagined.

Under new, young ownership since the end of 2024, the rooms (at least in the guest house at the rear) are completely renovated. We had a deluxe double room (No. 202) with a balcony overlooking the quiet garden. A top-notch room, with an excellent bed and bathroom. Very friendly service, a great breakfast buffet, and a wine fridge in the stairwell – wonderful. We'd be happy to return anytime!

We went there for dinner. Excellent cuisine, natural products beautifully presented and creatively presented. A surprisingly extensive and select wine list – and not just a large regional selection. The service was discreet and attentive, and a young team with a lot of potential. Thank you for the evening. Most importantly – fair prices. Therefore, an absolute recommendation.

It was our first stay in the Kaiserstuhl region. The privately run hotel boasts a very pleasant atmosphere, the service is impeccable, and we felt very comfortable! The breakfast is plentiful and varied. The restaurant offers a good selection and quality! Some dishes are "star-worthy"! We highly recommend the hotel, the rooms, and the restaurant! Due to a mishap of our own making, the room reservation was a bit complicated. Mr. M. Herrmann from the hotel was very friendly and helped us resolve the problem. He even called us at home from Germany to confirm the ultimately successful and correct reservation. What great service! The room was very clean. The dinner was of excellent quality. The hollandaise sauce served with the asparagus was probably the best sauce I've ever tasted! Breakfast offered everything for a successful start; nothing was lacking. We will happily and confidently continue to book this hotel for our stays in Ihringen. Thanks again to the entire team!

We stopped in spontaneously after a bike ride. The staff were very cheerful and very friendly. The food was excellent and highly recommended. The portions were small, but perfectly adequate for us. The dining room is quite open and a bit noisy when full. That's perhaps the only drawback for us. We would eat there again anytime.

The tourist tax allowed us to take the train to Freiburg for free, which was the purpose of our visit. Great! We were very satisfied with our stay at this hotel, which we chose somewhat at random on hotel.com. We recommend it and will return.

Hello dear Engel team, We felt very comfortable with you in the heart of Ihringen. We received a very friendly welcome, and there is plenty of parking. The rooms are beautifully renovated, quietly located in the guesthouse, and we slept well! The breakfast is compact but delicious, and there is a perfectly adequate selection of everything you need. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We would love to come back!

The two of us stayed here for three nights in May. Overall impression: Fantastic!! The renovated rooms were a dream: spacious, stylish, and modern. The beds were so comfortable that we slept very well. The breakfast was modest but absolutely sufficient and very tasty, especially the bread and rolls and the coffee! The food at lunch and dinner was very, very tasty; even a leaf salad tasted particularly fresh and delicious. The asparagus and meat dishes were also simply delicious and special. The staff is particularly friendly, in an unobtrusive way. Totally nice, helpful, and everyone does everything they can. The chef carried our suitcases, and the manager helps out in the garden. The hotel's location is easy to reach. It's quiet; we stayed in the guesthouse at the back; I can't comment on the street. Freiburg, Breisach, and Colmar are quickly reachable; there are restaurants, a creperie, and an ice cream parlor on site.

First time at the Goldener Engel on Mother's Day Sunday – SUPER! Appealing menu, attentive and friendly service, and fantastic food in both taste and presentation. It's definitely worth the long drive. We'll be back!

Es war ein sonniger Nachmittag an dem wir uns entschlossen haben im goldenen Engel ein wenig zu verweilen und ein Mahl zu uns zu nehmen. Beim Lesen der Speisekarte überraschte mich die Beschreibung der einzelnen Gerichte, schon alleine vom Lesen bekam ich Appetit. Die Atmosphäre war ruhig das Personal stets freundlich und zuvorkommend. Einfach toll. Beim eintreffen der Speisen wurde mir warm ums Herz. Ein solch liebevoll zubereitetes Essen, ich habe Fotos hierzu eingestellt, habe ich vorher noch nirgends serviert bekommen. Ein Geschmackserlebnis, die ganze Familie war begeistert . Wie sagte mein kleiner Sohn in die Runde, da hauts der ja den Vogel naus. Einfach nur toll, ein Lob an das gesamte Personal und den Spitzenkoch welcher auch noch ein paar nette Worte mit uns am Tisch teilte.

I was a guest at the hotel and I just loved everything. the room was spotlessly clean, freshly redecorated with a nice balcony in the back yard. Breakfast was tasteful. The people at the reception were more than helpful and ready to help for our convenience. What impressed me most was that they came to clean the room and change towels the next day we arrived. Overall, I would greatly recommend the hotel and its personnel and definitely will visit again.

We were there on 18th to 20th of April, 2025. Excellent location with a very friendly, warm and professional staff by giving information where to go and what to see in the area. Excellent breakfast with very tasty food and an exceptional good service. Extremely clean rooms with very nice furniture. We will return!!

We have been to the "Golden Angel" several times now and are always impressed by the deliciously prepared food. Plus the very friendly service, we'll definitely be back. It's noticeable here that everyone still enjoys their work. The only small negative point is that the acoustics are a bit loud

Ziemlich spontan wurde uns hier am Wochenende noch ein freier Tisch gegeben, als wir von einer Wanderung einkehren wollten. Wir hatten die Ochsenbäckchen und die Saure Leber, was beides äußerst lecker zubereitet war und uns sehr nett serviert wurde. Das von außen traditionell anmutende Restaurant scheint einen innovativen, sehr guten Koch zu haben. Hierher kehren wir ganz sicher zurück!

We were in Ihringen with a group of 13 adults and 2 children (6) for lunch after a successful escape hike. The food had been pre-ordered and a nice table was set up for us in the open next room. The food came quickly and everyone enjoyed it wonderfully. My Ochsenbäckle were delicious like never before. The service was very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely come back - but with clean shoes. Sorry for the mess we left behind.

Wir waren für ein paar Tage im Engel Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis für die Übernachtung mit Frühstück ist sehr gut Die Zimmer sind alle frisch renoviert und sehr sauber Das Personal war an allen 4 Tagen sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend Nun zum Essen: Ich habe schon lange nicht mehr in einem Restaurant ohne Sterne so gut gegessen wie hier. (Und wir waren schon öfter im Sternebeteich essen) Aus unserer Sicht wäre mindestens ein Stern angebracht. Die Speisekarte ist in Punkto Fine-dining versus traditioneller deutscher Küche absolut genial Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!!

Wir waren zu zweit an einem Sonntagabend im Goldenen Engel und waren begeistert. Allen voran vom jungen Team. Da waren lauter Vollprofis am Werk, die ihr Handwerk verstehen und dem Gast auf Augenhöhe begegnet sind. Service war dementsprechend ungezwungen, frech im positiven Sinn und dennoch präzise. Der Küchenchef versteht sein Handwerk und liebt seinen Job, das merkt man jedem Gericht an. Amuse Bouche war eine Kürbis Panna Cotta mit Zitronenverbene und hat Lust auf den weiteren Abend gemacht. Ich war danach mit Kalbsconsommé, Rindertatar und Roastbeef sehr Rindslastig unterwegs. Alles sehr fein, auf den Punkt und mit großer Kreativität sowohl in der Tellersprache als auch in der Zubereitung. Meine Frau vorweg mit einer Variation von der Roten Bete, danach Gebratener Zander und zum Schluss Schoko-Tartelette. Auch hier alles top. Kompliment. Das war große Kunst. Die Weinkarte ist sehr gut sortiert. Mit einigen großen Weinen aus dem Kaiserstuhl. Ich hätte als offenen Rotwein gerne noch eine Alternative zu zwei Sorten Pinot Noir gehabt, aber den "Lokalmatador" anzubieten entbehrt ja auch nicht einer gewissen Logik. Somit auch hier absolut sinnig. Alles in allem absolute Empfehlung. Wir kommen wieder.

Ich war skeptisch nach dem ich die Bewertungen hier gelesen habe. Vorallem da ich immer "das Haar in der Suppe" finde. Ich kannn es aber in keiner Weise bestätigen! Wir hatten ein Menü in vegetarischer Variante das spontan für uns gemacht worden ist, mit Wein Begleitung. Solch ein Service, flexible Küche auf diesen Niveau, perfekte Wein Auswahl, das sind wir bisher nur von Sterne Restaurants gewohnt. Besteck wurde mit Handschuh nachgelegt, Service höflich, freundlich, immer da ohne aufdringlich zu sein....Der Gruß aus der Küche und der Nachtisch, höchstes Niveau und Genusserlebnis pur, das essen sehr sehr lecker! Das erste Mal und garantiert nicht das letzte mal. Noch ein wahrer Geheimtipp am Kaiserstuhl!

As vegetarians, we were a bit skeptical at first because the menu didn't offer many options for us at first glance. But the kitchen proved to be extremely flexible and creative - it was no problem to prepare a delicious vegetarian menu for us. We chose two different menus, one of which was accompanied by wine. It was just perfect! The greeting from the kitchen and the dessert were the absolute highlight of the evening for me personally and definitely reached star level! It was our first time at Engel, but definitely not our last. We are already looking forward to our next visit! Many thanks to the entire team for this unforgettable evening!

Hauptgänge wurden vergessen und nach mehr als einer Stunde Wartezeit keine Entschuldigung! Die Chefin ist sich zu schade, das Missgeschick zu erklären! Auf der Rechnung ,die wir ohne Hauptgang erhalten zu haben, stehen alle Hauptgänge! Nie wieder!

Food good, service with some teething problems, it took a while both at the reception and until the first order was placed. What's really annoying is the ambience, which doesn't match the prices. The larger room in particular is like a tile exhibition, you just can't feel comfortable there. The service should pay a little attention to the dress code, even if this is not a star restaurant.

Not only did we have to wait a long time, but the tables around us were served before us even though they came a little later. That can happen, but after we politely pointed it out the second time, an apology would have been appropriate and not just a "You'll be there soon." Wasn't that good. Can be done better.

Der Dekor des Restaurants erinnert an die 80iger Jahre und es fehlt etwas Gemütlichkeit. Unsere Vorspeise kam relativ schnell, aber ein lokaler Wein den wir bestellt hatten war ungenießbar, dieser wurde von der Bedienung folgendermaßen substituiert. Wir warteten 1 Stunde bis unser Hauptgang serviert wurde. Wir hatten 2 verschiedene Gänge, beide reichhaltig aber fade/geschmacklos.

I read about the new tenants in the BZ. After looking at the food and drink menu, it was clear that we would try it out. The atmosphere is cozy and not aloof. The seating in the two guest rooms is very narrow and the noise level is high. The restaurant was well attended. The offer is okay, what is on the menu is served on the plate. It doesn't taste good, it doesn't exist. The menu can also be taken in a vegetarian version using the options on the menu. There is no amusement or greeting from the kitchen. Bread only against payment. There is no need to change cutlery during courses. Okay, you can live with that. Rich selection of good wines. Regional beers are also available. The service is good and attentive. Conclusion: Good country cuisine with a modern touch. What comes out of the kitchen tastes good. Can you recommend it?

Ausser dem Essen, das einigermaßen der Erwartung entsprach, war alles andere wirklich miserabel! Nach Ankunft (in Thekennähe) kümmert sich niemand, danach werden Gäste, die nach uns kommen vorrangig bedient, wir können keine Bestellung aufgeben, während die erwähnten Gäste bereits ihr Getränk serviert bekommen. Auf eine diesbezügliche Beschwerde wird die Bestellung eines Aperitivs (2 Gläser Sekt) zwar entgegen genommen, aber nicht ausgeführt, und so ging es weiter, ich möchte hier keinen Roman schreiben. Wir empfanden diesen Abend als absolut drittklasisg und haben so einen miserablen Service in 50 Jahren bisher noch nicht erlebt. Nie wieder !!!!

Nicht zu empfehlen und überteuert. Mit großer Arroganz und sehr unfreundlich wurden von der Besitzerin Fragen nach Kaffeezubereitung auf Zimmer („Um Gottes Willen, da muss man ja nur saubermachen“) oder auch zum Frühstücksbuffet („Geflügelwurst gibt es bei uns nicht, nur Schwein“) zurückgewiesen, was man als Gast bei den überteuerten Preisen pro Zimmer durchaus erwarten KANN. Gästewünsche sind denen also völlig egal. Einmal und nie wieder.

We've eaten there several times over the past few years, today for the first time since it reopened. And we have to say: simply very good! The strikingly young team is doing everything right. Really recommended.

I celebrated my 81st birthday today with 7 friends and everyone was very happy with the food as well as the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. Just a suggestion: The separation from the former adjoining room should at least be made with a pane of glass in order to better separate the noises from the two rooms.

It was our first time at the Goldener Engel, which has been under new management for a few weeks - the communication and reception were very friendly - the room was clean, comfortable and had a large balcony - very tasty and varied breakfast buffet (only one was missing for my taste real black breakfast tea) - the dinner was excellent and the service was provided by the friendly young team very good. Nice wine selection of local wines. A few small bottles or a wider range by the glass would be fantastic. We'll be back. We wish the new owners and the team much joy and success.

A small, very, very fine menu. There is something for every taste. Everything was extremely creatively prepared and tasted excellent. The young service staff is very attentive and friendly. We'll be back - promise.

The two of us went to the restaurant twice in quick succession; we only know the hotel from the outside. The team's friendliness and willingness to help was evident right from the start, when the young boss personally led us to the parking lot in the courtyard. The new furnishings of the old traditional house are tastefully modern, with bare tables but cloth napkins and designer lamps and vases. Where possible, the beautiful old dishes with the angel logo are integrated. The menu is pleasantly small, but offers something for every taste, whether traditional Baden or modern. What is striking is the wine list with extremely fairly priced bottled wines, including always the latest vintage of the white ones. It's clear that the neighbor Heger dominates. The food was completely enjoyable to excellent. Sweetbreads, offered far too rarely, are one of my favorite dishes and were served in properly sized bites breaded on braised salad with a green sauce. What followed was the most tender veal tripe I have ever eaten. I wouldn't call it Sulz, because this Baden specialty has a different character just from the way it's prepared. Also as far as the sauce is concerned - it's incredibly rich here, but delicious. There was also Brägele, crispier than crispy. We can also highly recommend the Spätzle with truffles from Gretzmeier and the Wiener Schnitzel with a gravy that has been reduced for 72 (!) hours. We only saw satisfied to happy guests in the restaurant on the two evenings. Next door, a big birthday was celebrated by locals who were happy that the “angel” was open again. They were given snacks with bacon and Bible cheese to go with the champagne and were in a great mood. We didn't remember your menu. All in all, this new opening is a true enrichment of our dining scene. Some things still need slight improvement. For example, we missed bread and butter or greetings from the kitchen to get us in the mood for the whole thing. What bothered us a bit was an indefinable radio station that was always audible in the background. We also found that some tables were very close to each other. But these are small discrepancies that can be quickly resolved. We look forward to the next visit.

The only improvement for me would be the dining room, which doesn't quite reflect the quality of the kitchen. Nevertheless, you feel extremely comfortable and sit comfortably. We'll be back!

Great ambience. We were impressed by the very good and honest cuisine, as well as the relaxed and super friendly atmosphere that the young team spread. Everything went perfectly. The overnight stay and the small and very tasty breakfast buffet were also great. We felt completely comfortable and in good hands. Gladly again. 😊

As a gifted amateur cook, I can only say CHAPEAU! The cucumber soup was terrific, the roast beef was wonderfully pink, the sauce was super awesome and then the peach compote came from white or maybe blood peaches? with the sorrel ice cream, another highlight. Keep it up! It's a shame that they live a little far from where we live. Maybe we'll come on October 5th. to the wine menu. I hope there is no wildlife?? LG Margarete and I Bühler

( ohne Geschmacksverstärker) mit dazu erlesener Weinkarte. Die vor August stehenden Bewertungen können eigentlich gelöscht werden! (Neue Betreiberin) Am Kaiserstuhl ein neuer Stern, für Ihringen einen Segen!!! Dem jungen Team wünsche ich weiterhin alles gute und wir kommen gerne jederzeit wieder!

Mega cool team, mega delicious food, great hotel. The overall concept is very cozy and inviting, the employees are super friendly and accommodating. The Angel is simply recommended and always worth a trip!

You can go...but you don't HAVE to!

We used to stay and eat at the Goldener Engel several times and were always very satisfied. Now that it has reopened, we are thrilled with the young and very friendly team, there is nothing to complain about in terms of both the service and the excellent food. Very good successor. We'd love to come back!

We had lunch at Gasthaus Engel with 19 people. Food and service is top 👍. If I come to this area again we will definitely go there again.
