Cozy atmosphere, hearty food. The menu isn't anything special.

We were a group of 9. The service was excellent, everything was delicious, and the Bavarian atmosphere was wonderful.

We've always enjoyed coming here. Unfortunately, this time, after eating the pork knuckle, we experienced vomiting and diarrhea during the night. This completely ruined the following day of our vacation, as we had to spend the entire day in bed. This is especially frustrating on vacation, since time is limited. It's a real shame, and we won't be coming back.

I was at the inn this afternoon. The coffee was good. The duck tasted old and completely bland with a stale aftertaste. I only ate a piece of duck and the dumplings because I was hungry. The red cabbage was completely overcooked and inedible. The dumplings were just okay. Since I had ordered it and eaten something, I paid. A complete waste of money for such poor quality. Never again!! Shame on you! The schnitzel for my son was good.

The place was very nice, and the welcome was very friendly. Unfortunately, my wife couldn't sit in the chair due to surgery. We asked the server if we could sit on the bench where it was empty. We were told no, it was all reserved, and then we unfortunately had to leave. A shame.

Compared to other restaurants in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the noise level in the large main room is quite high. The room also lacks a certain rustic charm. The food was okay. The sauces for the duck and roast pork were bland, and the red cabbage was overcooked. The portions were disproportionately large for the price, especially compared to other restaurants in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

As with every stay in Garmisch or Grainau, we ate at the "Zur Schranne" inn again this time. The menu leaves nothing to be desired, whether you're a meat lover or a vegetarian – there's always something delicious to be found. And of course, a perfectly chilled Augustiner on tap. Whenever we've dined here in recent years, the value for money has been excellent. Not to be forgotten is the outstanding service from the staff – always friendly and approachable! A definite recommendation; we're already looking forward to our next visit in 2026!

Good selection, especially for people who don't like pork. We had duck, beef liver, fish, spaetzle, and duck breast. It was very tasty, and the service was super friendly.

The best restaurant for regional cuisine in Garmisch! The roast pork and the onion roast beef were cooked to perfection – just like the Kaiserschmarrn. A real treat! The ambiance is fantastic and perfectly complements the food. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and friendly!

I came here with my family to eat a meal, the food was decent. However , as my sister was sick , we needed an extra plate to share food with her so she doesn’t contaminate the other food, BUT, ONE PLATE costs 2.50 euros, THATS RIDICULOUS , having to pay for a plate that you won’t even keep is CRAZY. Even after that, the food was only average, won’t recommend coming here, last time for me too.

I went with my family (2 adults 3 children) and ordered food to share - 5 mains portions & 1 soup. I Requested for sharing plates and am told I have to pay 2.50 EUR for a plate. ?!? RIDICULOUS. I have never come across such a practise in all my travels of the world. Truly.

Lovely spot in Garmisch for great German food. I can't recommend the Farmer's Rösti enough, I've had it a few times now and it's fantastic! The service is also very friendly (and English speaking), and the selection of beer, wine, and mixed drinks is good, too. Definitely a nice spot to have dinner if you're in Garmisch.

Hearty, down-to-earth, and a touch of Bavarian coziness. We dined at the Gasthaus zur Schranne on a weekday evening, and yes, this is exactly what you imagine a true Bavarian inn experience to be. Making a reservation online was quick and easy, and finding parking in Garmisch was equally relaxed: just a few side streets around the inn and you're right in the heart of it all. Inside, we received a warm welcome and were immediately shown to our table. As is typical in Bavaria, you're not seated in some secluded corner, but rather in a large, open dining room – rustic, convivial, full of wooden tables, with a regulars' table atmosphere and a good dose of brewery character. It wasn't completely full, so it was pleasantly quiet – but every now and then it became wonderfully lively: a duo with an accordion and guitar played a few songs in the corner. That was the moment when we thought: Yes, now we've really arrived in Bavaria. The service? Friendly, attentive, and welcoming – just as it should be in a traditional inn. Drinks? Promptly served. A nice light beer is practically obligatory here. The soups as starters also arrived quickly. The beef consommé could have used a bit more oomph – a touch more spice, a touch more depth. The chestnut soup, on the other hand, was a welcome, creamy change from the usual clear broths found around the Alps. The main course continued in the dialect-free, but all the more hearty, inn style: The beef goulash was decent, nicely braised in sauce, with spaetzle – perfectly acceptable in terms of taste. Not a gourmet masterpiece, but honest brewery fare. The rösti in the cast-iron pan was rich, crispy, and hearty – exactly as expected. A touch more roasted flavor on the bacon would have been nice, but that's really a matter of personal taste. In short: A truly cozy evening, enhanced by a fantastic atmosphere, live music from the corner, excellent service, and a dining room brimming with Bavarian charm. The food could be a bit heartier or more lovingly prepared in a few places – but if you're looking for traditional, hearty pub fare, this is the place for you. A definite recommendation for anyone visiting Garmisch who wants to experience authentic Bavarian pub culture – no frills, just genuine warmth and a great atmosphere.

The Festi soup was delicious, but the main course, meat in beer, wasn't impressive. The meat was quite cold, the sauce lacked any particular flavor, and the additions of dumplings and coleslaw were okay. When paying, the waitress had a problem with card payment...

The food was good and prices were decent. However, be warned that the portions are on the very large size (a whole smoked trout!!) and that it can get loud in the dining area.

We arrived just 10 minutes before the kitchen closed for hot meals and politely inquired – both the service and the kitchen staff were incredibly welcoming and still managed to prepare something for us. We ate at the "Zur Schranne" inn today. The food was typically Bavarian and incredibly good. The service was first-class; my wife and I especially enjoyed the waitress Anna. 10 stars for you! On a very busy Tuesday evening, and without a reservation, you have little chance of getting a table. A great, charming inn. It's a little noisy in the large dining room, but that's part of a busy inn. My tip: reserve a table and enjoy. We'd be happy to come back. Thank you.

Tasty food, great service, and a good atmosphere. If I had more time in town, I would come here again! Highly recommend it. We spent about €35 per person but that included a soup, two entrees, two beers, and dessert. Cannot recommend it enough.

This was the worst service experience. I tried to cancel my order because it was placed incorrectly, but they refused to do so, even though it hadn't even been a second. The servers may have been friendly, but they weren't Asian. This was the worst experience I had on my last day in Germany. This is the worst restaurant I've ever been to, with the worst racist experience.

Terrible service. The head waiter, Philipp, doesn't keep his word. We were initially promised an extra table so that the eight of us could comfortably sit. In the end, Philipp simply took that extra table away, and the eight of us had to sit at a table meant for six. The service is abysmal, the way guests are treated is disrespectful, and Philipp was extremely rude. Absolutely not recommended. I hope a restaurant with this kind of attitude goes bankrupt soon. We ate at the Gasthaus zur Schranne twice during our vacation in Garmisch. Both times the restaurant was quite full, but we managed to get a table each time. All the dishes we ordered on both visits (Spätzle, Schnitzel, Backhendl, and venison goulash) were served promptly and tasted delicious. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, even though they were all clearly very busy.

A classic pub with large tables and chairs. They serve Augustiner beer, and there are signs and pictures of it in the bar area. We had Schlutzkrapfen (filled pasta) and Zwiebelrostbraten (roast beef with onions). It was a generous portion, and everything was delicious and freshly prepared. The Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) was okay, but could have been a bit fluffier. It came without raisins, but with applesauce, bilberries, and pear slices. Friendly and cheerful service.

We were guests here in 2017 and were very satisfied. Great food and large portions that definitely fill you up. By far the best schnitzel with fries we've ever eaten!!! Quaint atmosphere and you feel very comfortable in this traditional Bavarian inn. Highly recommended!

A typical Bavarian restaurant, with German decor and long tables for sharing. The beer was great and the food was okay. What I really didn't like is that we ordered a dish to share (we ordered an extra-large schnitzel which was okay, nothing special) and the restaurant charged us €2.50 to give us an extra dish! It's not about the price, but charging for an extra dish, in my opinion, doesn't make sense…

We visited on Sunday, there were seats. Pork knuckle must be ordered in advance.

The staff were very friendly and the food was attractively presented. The only drawback was that the meat was a bit lukewarm.

The place itself is cosy and has a warm feeling. Maybe the theme song of ghost busters was a bit out of place but apart from that everything was wonderful. We didn't have an appointment but they managed to squeeze us in anyway and still made us feel very welcome. The food was very good, sizable portions but not over the top. And everything was very tasty! For starters we had salads and soups, for mains we had schnitzel, meat and veggie hamburger, veggie dumplings and pasta. No one was disappointed! Usually in a place someone in a group of five will feel they drew the short end of the stick but here we all walked (rolled) away very happy. On top of that we had a very nice waitress who made us feel very welcome and gave everything just that extra that you want when you go out to eat.

We managed to get a seat on Saturday evening without a reservation. The service was very friendly, and while the food was a bit more expensive, it was also of high quality. For vegetarians, I can recommend the chickpea burger; even without fries, it was very filling and incredibly delicious.

HAVE a RESERVATION! We came the first night on hotel owner's recommendation and had a table on the way to the restrooms. But food was really good and staff pleasant and personable. Made a reservation for the next night for my wife's birthday dinner AND ordered from the order-ahead menu. Eating in the main dinning room was really nice. Food again was terrific and service was great again.

That was the worst pork knuckle ever... it was awful! Even though you had to pre-order! The rinds were rubbery and the meat was simply DRY! The criticism didn't go over well! It's just mass-produced, nothing more! No quality!

It was pleasantly quiet, even though all the tables were occupied. The food was brought promptly, attractively presented, and very tasty! Definitely a recommendation!

A rustic inn with a great interior. The food is good, but could be improved in some areas. The roast onions isn't exactly the highlight; it's heavy meat and the sauce is awful. The Bauernschmauspfanne (farmer's dish), the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), and the Kaiserschmarrn (shrimp) are, however, delicious and tasty.

We were unfortunately disappointed. Based on the many good reviews, we came to the inn as a couple. We had made a reservation and were shown to our seats by the owner himself. This was our first disappointment. We were seated in a side room on the first floor, which had very little charm. We had made a reservation well in advance and would have preferred to sit in the parlor or the large hall downstairs. The service was really prompt and very friendly. The meal itself was a disaster by Bavarian standards. The fried potatoes were not crispy at all, more like steamed. The pork schnitzel was very watery, which suggests poor quality meat. The roast pork was cut much too thick, making the meat rather tough. The dumplings themselves had no flavor, lacking any seasoning, but especially salt. The crust on the roast pork was completely tasteless. I hope my criticism will be accepted and passed on to the kitchen.

We've been to this restaurant in Garmisch several times, and last year everything was truly top-notch – the food was excellent, the service attentive, and very child-friendly. Unfortunately, that has changed significantly. The restaurant now resembles a train station concourse, and the atmosphere isn't as cozy as it used to be. The service has also deteriorated considerably: special requests are rarely accommodated; where you used to hear a friendly "Yes, no problem," you now hear more like "No." What disappointed us most, however, was the quality of the food – unfortunately, nothing of the "incredibly delicious" we heard last year has changed. It's a shame, because we used to enjoy coming here, but this was probably the last time.

Formerly five stars, now only three – unfortunately, the decline is significant… the menu is unfortunately not as extensive as it used to be, the food overall is okay, but also expensive. Definitely just below average among Garmisch restaurants, unfortunately not as great as it used to be! Back then, it was a clear five stars… I spoke to an employee on the phone today, and he was absolutely unfriendly and almost rude. I've never experienced that in Garmisch before. A real shame.

I went to this restaurant for a Bavarian experience that was very frustrating. The restaurant was full and the lady at the reception asked me to wait 15 minutes at the counter and never came back. Many people went ahead of me and I ended up eating at the counter; the food was excellent, but the experience was frustrating.

The restarant is very nice inside, the service was very friendly and they speak in english (it is difficult sometimes to find this in Germany). The food was very good, we had some Pork dishes and it was very good. The price is acceptable.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience at the Gasthaus zur Schranne. After the pork knuckle with sauerkraut and the onion roast beef with cheese spaetzle, we vomited the sauerkraut and spaetzle with severe stomach cramps, and also got diarrhea. A completely wasted day of vacation. A real shame. The staff was very friendly. The facilities aren't modern. The restrooms: one of the two women's restrooms was unusable because someone had already done their diarrhea there, and the toilet bowl was covered in brown splatters.

We stopped at the Gasthaus zur Schranne because of the good reviews and were looking forward to a hearty Bavarian meal. Unfortunately, the joy didn't last long, because after the knuckle of pork with sauerkraut (my companion had the onion roast with cheese spaetzle) I got severe stomach pains and vomited up the sauerkraut. I felt so bad that I had to spend the entire next day in bed. My companion had a similar experience: for her, it was the cheese spaetzle that made her vomit with severe stomach cramps. Never again.

My husband and I were vacationing in Garmisch for a few days. We enjoyed the delicious food at the Gasthaus zur Schranne on two days. The inn has a quaint feel, which I particularly like. The menu isn't too extensive, but there's something for every palate. The pumpkin soup is fantastic, as is the festive soup! I had the roast beef with onions both days because it was so damn good! My husband opted for the pork medallions and the veal schnitzel. Both were delicious! Also highly recommended. For dessert, we had the warm chocolate cake with a liquid center, which was delicious, and the apple strudel. This was a bit weak for our taste compared to the other dishes and the chocolate cake. But as we all know, tastes differ. It was still fresh! We can wholeheartedly recommend the inn for both the service, the ambiance, and the food! When we're back in Garmisch, we'll definitely be back!

Soup was fine for a small hunger. You need reservation, but we were lucky and easily enough for a place for 2.
