Gasthaus zur Schranne in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

I'm unfortunately disappointed; the first impression was very inviting. First: the Schrannenburger - the meat tasted of nothing, lacking any seasoning. The service: friendly, but I would have liked them to check if everything was okay with the food. That's what I've experienced at other restaurants, where they're more on the ball and closer to the guests. And last but not least, the ambiance: we sat outside quite close together, which wasn't really bad, although, smokers will be pleased to know, smoking is allowed here, much to the chagrin of non-smokers. Eating is no longer enjoyable when you're constantly wafting smoke around your nose. What a shame!!!

Simply great in Garmisch, already in the 60s

If you don't eat here, it's your own fault! This was the best meal we had in Garmisch! Great service, simply nothing to complain about.

Super delicious food, very friendly staff, always tries to find a free seat.

Not recommended for vegetarians, especially vegans. The vegan burger for €17 consists of a white bun (not even a burger bun), a dry patty, a slice of tomato, and a bit of lettuce. Not enough, not tasty, and far too expensive. Even the non-vegetarians weren't impressed with their schnitzel.

A truly lovely Bavarian restaurant. With great, sometimes witty service. Reservations are recommended.

Great food 👍 and friendly service in a very nice restaurant. We were there with seven friends and all got our food at the same time. The main course was served after the appetizer (a delicious Obatzter with wonderfully fresh bread) had finished, after we asked. Fine spirits rounded off the evening. We can highly recommend it. Many other guests agree, so be sure to reserve early.

I had expected much more. The fried potatoes weren't tasty; they were only lukewarm, tasted old, and weren't well seasoned. The schnitzel was tasty, though, and the side salad was okay. The potato soup was too spicy. Unfortunately, the radio was playing in the background with commercials. We had hoped for a more Bavarian atmosphere.

Basically okay, but nothing more. It thrives on the ambiance—a Bavarian restaurant couldn't be more typical—and, of course, on its good draft beer. The food is unfortunately average, both in terms of portions and taste.

Unfortunately, we can't confirm the positive reviews. Veal Wiener schnitzel: Meat very gray, dark, breading not crispy. Mixed pan (name?) from the daily menu, so far, it was okay, but unfortunately, the serving pan was cold, and so was the dish. Sorry, but we expected more.

Prices are reasonable, food is very good

Good beer, delicious roast beef with onions, and decent desserts. We visited three times during our vacation and would love to come back. You can't go wrong when you're in Garmisch!

The service was outstanding – friendly, courteous, and extremely attentive. The cuisine combines Alpine, Bavarian, and German specialties with regional and seasonal produce – from meat to vegetables and bread to wild herbs and mushrooms. My giant rösti was particularly impressive: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside – a rustic dish with a twist, perfectly portioned and lovingly presented. The quality of the ingredients and the craftsmanship of the kitchen team are evident here.

What a sublime pleasure I enjoyed at the Gasthaus zur Schranne! The very first sip of the freshly tapped, dark, shimmering beer revealed a full-bodied aroma that would delight even the most discerning palate. The schnitzel, skillfully drawn from the pan, revealed a golden coating of imperial crispness, while the fried potatoes – deliciously wrapped in bacon and subtle nuances of onion – presented a symphony of hearty, down-to-earth goodness. The service was no less praiseworthy: exquisitely friendly, without ever compromising the decorum of the establishment. And what a rare joy in this era of culinary excess – the price proved to be thoroughly reasonable and testifies to a pleasingly balanced relationship between sophistication and expense. An establishment that nourishes body and soul in exemplary harmony—my unqualified rating: worthy of five stars and, moreover, a haven of culinary nobility!

Very good food and friendly service!

Almost everything was to our satisfaction. We can't recommend the side salad. The jar idea is great, but the dressing wasn't our cup of tea and wasn't worth the €6.50 for us. On the other hand, the roast beef with zwiebrost was absolutely top-notch.

We stopped by for lunch as a family with three children. The service was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere comfortable, and the restrooms clean. We really liked the fact that children under six eat free. There's a small children's menu with special dishes (our daughter opted for fries), but dumplings or pasta with sauce would have been an option. I had the beef goulash with dumplings. It was okay; I've had better. It could have been much more tender and a bit more seasoned. My husband had the salad with shredded ox, which was a bit tough. He noted the limited variety of raw vegetables in the salad and would have preferred a bit more seasoning and flavor. Our sons had the Kaiserschmarrn (he was satisfied; we found it too dense and airy) and the festive soup, which was good. We didn't regret our visit, but probably wouldn't go back.

Had a brilliant time here! Big shoutout to Christina who was looking after the upstairs she was working super hard but still had a great sense of humour and made the night fun. Loved that they also offer some gluten-free options when asked and actually know what’s GF, which made things really easy. I hd the steak with crispy onions and fried bacon potatoes and gravy and others had crispy duck all very tasty. Great atmosphere and definitely recommend!

Mixed experience. The online reservation option didn't work, even after several attempts. No one at the restaurant was reachable by phone, even outside of peak hours and during opening hours. When we spontaneously tried it in the early evening, the two of us, we were told everything was reserved, even though the restaurant was only a third full inside and outside. This was still the case when we left the restaurant. With better table management, we could have been offered another seat for that hour. Finally, a somewhat annoyed server gave us a seat outside, but not under the umbrellas, where there were plenty of seats. We were left to wipe down the partially wet benches ourselves, and unlike other guests, we weren't offered any seat cushions. The food was quite good, but not phenomenal, as the 4.7 stars suggest. Perhaps the many foreign tourists don't have anything to compare it to? But as Bavarians, we definitely do. We also repeatedly wondered during the meal whether the Käsespatzle (cheese spaetzle) were really homemade. The shape, consistency, and especially the vibrant yellow color suggested a ready-made product... too expensive for the price. The ambiance in the inn is very quaint and typically traditional, and all in all, lovely. Would we go there again? Probably not; there are better options elsewhere.

Very nice restaurant with typical Bavarian cuisine. They serve Augustiner beer, one of the best in Germany. The food was good, but could have been improved in some places.

A really nice inn, great food and service.

I could have made better food at home; it was underseasoned, the sauerkraut was inedible, the side dishes tasted bland, the meat was unevenly cooked, and the price was way too high for what you get. Service, however, was very friendly and prompt. Finally, the ambiance was nicely decorated but unfortunately minimal. The room was far too loud, even with only half the seats occupied; it was almost impossible to have a conversation at your own table.

The food was generally poor and underseasoned. The red cabbage was inedible, the coleslaw had almost no dressing and was poorly seasoned, the meat was unevenly cooked, and the fried potatoes left much to be desired. Far, far too expensive for this "quality." The staff is a bit understaffed, but still very relaxed and friendly.

I assume it was too hot for the waitress today, so she couldn't be friendly. But I have no explanation for the food. The fries were soaked in grease that they were glassy. The schnitzel was burnt on the bottom. The kid's spaetzle were stuck together in a clump and tasteless. The roast pork was past its best... Unfortunately, I can't understand the previous reviews.

I ate the worst veal schnitzel of my life here. The roast pork was edible. It was packed with tourists, even during the week, queuing up. So the quality is probably adequate.

One of our favorite restaurants in Garmisch. Always delicious, the staff is very friendly and very quick. The roast beef with onions was well-cooked, but unfortunately a bit tough; I would have preferred the hash browns to be crispier. The salad was beautifully served in a mason jar. Easy reservation via the Open Table app.

Service a little "dry", but good food

Unfortunately, it was very mediocre. The schnitzel was nothing special, the fries were dry and tasteless, and the salad wasn't even worth mentioning. We expected more given the good reputation and chic ambiance.

Very rude service staff. We didn't have to put up with insults after politely asking if there was a free table outside. There seemed to be enough customers. We left.

A quaint inn with a large dining room and correspondingly noisy interior, making the ambiance less than pleasant. The burgers were tasty, but unfortunately, the fries were frozen and over-fried to such an extreme that they were unbearably hard. Furthermore, ketchup and mayo are served in small packets, rather than in their own, more environmentally friendly little bowls. We chose the restaurant because of the separate children's menu; the wieners were also good, but the fries were also very hard.

Absolutely recommendable. An authentic place with excellent service and delicious food for a slightly lower price than usual in this area. I ordered the pork knuckle and was very pleasantly surprised. In the end, we had dinner for €30 each, including a main course and two drinks.

The food was extremely salty! Both my pork knuckle and the fries from the Wiener schnitzel were extremely salty, making it impossible to fully enjoy the food. Despite my high blood pressure, I finished eating. We also wanted to charge our cell phone briefly, but the battery was dead, but we were told a resounding NO.

Very good pork knuckles with cabbage and dumplings. It's also reasonably priced and served by a friendly waitress.

The service is relaxed. That means don’t be in a hurry. Food is great with large selection. English menus make it easy. After 5pm reservations may be helpful. Parking our big BMW rental was tricky. You may be better off parking down the street and walking.

We ate at the "Zur Schranne" inn today. The food was typically Bavarian and incredibly good. The service was first-class; my wife and I especially enjoyed the waitress Anna. 10 stars for you! On a very busy Tuesday evening, and without a reservation, you have little chance of getting a table. A great, charming inn. It's a little noisy in the large dining room, but that's part of a busy inn. My tip: reserve a table and enjoy. We'd be happy to come back. Thank you.

It was lunchtime and very busy, but Anne quickly assigned us a table. Despite all the stress, we got our drinks super quickly, and then our food arrived – simply wow!! A huge thank you to Anne and the entire Schranne team!

While passing through, we found the Gasthaus zur Schranne, a fantastic restaurant where you'll feel completely at home with your children. I've never seen small children allowed to order extras for free, which speaks volumes about the child-friendliness of the place. A quaint inn with very friendly service. The food was good, but a bit too salty for us. We would go back anytime.

Skip this places. Yes the outdoor is nice. But the food is mediocre and the service is beyond terrible. We set there, left something to my baby, and when we came back for it, 10 min later. They told they had knowingly put it on the trash, cause it was not useful to them. WHAT ?? Go anywhere else on Garmish
