Gasthaus Zur Post in Hamburg

This long-established restaurant just outside Hamburg is a well-known address for its fish dishes. We've been coming here for years. Tip: The "Eat Better Club" event is held irregularly; see also their website and Facebook page.

Great food and very pleasant service!! We spontaneously decided to have lunch there and it was excellent!

Upscale, traditional cuisine is probably the best description. Everything was prepared very fresh and deliciously. The menu featured mostly fish (fried), the plaice was excellent, and the pickled smelt was also very tasty. The location is beautiful, the service was attentive and friendly, and the ambiance was lovely (in an old building). We highly recommend it.

Fine German cuisine. Delicious food and a very welcoming, family atmosphere. I'll definitely be back. I was extremely satisfied 👍 There were 9 adults and 2 children (3-4 years old). Children's books and coloring materials were available. Everyone was incredibly lovely.

Great location right on the water, delicious food and good service.

Upon entering the restaurant, you're greeted with a warm "Welcome – so glad you're here!" and you quickly realize that every word is meant sincerely. The service is incredibly attentive, very friendly, and efficient, and everyone on the team has a contagious, genuinely cheerful attitude. Both Mr. Kramer senior and junior took the time to ask how our vacation was, what we'd been doing, and if everything was alright, and even joined us at our table. The food is absolutely fantastic. We had reserved a table in advance for our first evening after arriving at our vacation apartment and were so impressed with the quality of the food that we went back three more times during our two-week vacation. We sampled our way through the menu, trying fish, schnitzel, grass-fed beef, and duck, as well as appetizers and desserts, and everything was perfect. We will definitely be back and are already looking forward to trying the seasonal dishes on the menu.

A very nice restaurant on the Este River. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly.

The onions and bacon in the fried potatoes were burnt, the sauerkraut was dry, tough, and flavorless, and the fish platter was so-so. Far too expensive for the quality. But everyone was very friendly.

Our stay with the Kramer family was once again an absolute highlight! The vacation apartment is cozy and spotlessly clean, which contributes to a relaxed atmosphere. We particularly appreciated the friendly nature of the hosts. The restaurant also impresses with first-class, delicious local dishes and attentive service. We are already looking forward to our next short break at Estedeich!

We visited here for the first time with friends on Saturday and were so impressed by the crispy fried eel that we immediately reserved another table and the eel for Sunday. The service, advice, and preparation of the food were all top-notch! The only downside is the small parking lot. There's an alternative parking space about 400 meters away.

The food is not exactly cheap, but it is very good.

Four of us visited the restaurant at the end of August. The welcome alone made us feel very comfortable and welcome. 👌🏾 The food was fresh and delicious, including all the starters. Absolutely fantastic. We will definitely make the long journey from Bielefeld again. Many thanks to the super friendly staff. It was a pleasure.

Five stars are still not enough. What a beautiful, wonderful place, which invites you to linger. We spent a week in the apartment. We made extensive use of the restaurant, and it's impressive. The service is world-class. Even when it's very busy at times, the staff keep everything under control. With little jokes and lighthearted remarks at their fingertips. The owner of the house, the epitome of calm. In typical North German style, "moin moin"... a warm welcome. And there's no complaining here, we just get things done. Friends knew this beautiful restaurant...an absolute insider tip. Important - make a reservation in advance!!! We were greeted like old friends, very warmly. A beautiful spot with a view of the water. Great ambiance...nothing fancy, more simple, but that's exactly what makes it special. The staff was incredibly friendly, they explained my meal to me and always offered a quick joke. Here, you can tell that they live their profession!!! Where else can you find that... And the food itself...top-notch. The price-performance ratio was completely acceptable. My fish was cooked to perfection and the wild salmon was divine. The fried potatoes were nice and crispy. We ate at the inn and had a wonderful seat in the beer garden with its mature trees, right on the Este River. The service was excellent, and the fish was deliciously prepared. We highly recommend this place. The view is fantastic.

The chanterelle soup contained pieces of eel, even though we hadn't ordered it, and was charged accordingly. The Finkenwerder-style plaice was improperly prepared. The meat wouldn't separate from the underside, which had been overcooked. The fried potatoes were completely mushy. Despite our advanced age (84), the staff constantly addressed us informally, which was completely inappropriate. We were disappointed and won't be returning.

A traditional restaurant for those who love fish. Everything is just right here!

Beautiful surroundings, cozy restaurant, very, very good food, albeit at a bit on the high side. All in all, it's worth it. There's a garden right on the Este River, where you can enjoy a wonderful meal in the summer. The fish is especially delicious; where else can you get eel, sole, or turbot? We are extremely satisfied.

So wird man hier vom Hausherren begrüßt, der sich auch mit einem netten Spruch auf den Lippen um seine Gäste kümmert. Auch alle anderen Mitarbeiter sind freundlich und aufmerksam, genau so wie die Küchencrew, die bei vollen Beats sich um das Essen kümmert. Wir haben hier 2 mal, einmal im schönen Garten und einmal im Haus sehr gut gegessen. Das Wiener Schnitzel, der Panfisch oder auch der Zander waren auf dem Punkt, genau so wie die Beilagen. Das Gasthaus hat neben Touristen viele Stammgäste, also besser einen Tisch vorab reservieren.

Wir waren im Gasthaus Post zum Mittagessen. Der Service war 1A und wir fühlen uns sehr gut betreut und beraten. Wir saßen im Garten Blick auf den Flusslauf. Das Essen kamen sehr zügig und war schmackhaft auf. Die Preise sind auf gehobene Niveau. Für zwei Personen haben wir für Hauptgericht zwei Getränke eines Espresso und Nachspeise 95 € bezahlt. Das finde ich schon das Preisniveau.

Yes, super delicious food and super friendly service!

We were asked about our reservation five times, and we said the same thing five times---- We had a reservation. After a meager greeting and ordering, we had a bit of a shock: the price of €80 for four spears of asparagus with butter and boiled potatoes, plus two glasses of wine, was not right! My mother had considered ordering sea bass; when asked, she said it would be €80... We sat for a while without ordering anything else and weren't seen off.

Wir besuchten das Restaurant an einem Sonntagabend und hatten zuvor über Open Table einen Tisch reserviert. Das Restaurant wirkt eher wie ein gemütliches Wohnzimmer mit urigen Möbeln und war gut besucht. Die Bedienung war etwas reserviert, aber freundlich und konnte über Allergene sofort Auskunft geben. Das Essen kam recht zügig und schmeckte wirklich gut. Auch die falsche Sauce wurde umgehend ausgetauscht. Ein wenig enttäuscht waren wir vom Brownie zum Dessert, denn leider war er ziemlich trocken.

Delicious food and cozy terrace

We happened to be stranded there by chance on our bikes over the weekend. The restaurant was very busy (full), but we were still served very politely and courteously, even without a reservation! Excellent food, the unusual seafood "bratwurst" is outstanding; the food is traditional and delicious, and the plaice is excellent! Great terrace, the staff motivated, humorous, and cheerful! Here, gastronomy is alive and well; a great atmosphere!

I booked through hotels.com on free cancellation basis, my plans changed and I cancelled the room in February. They took payment for this room in May when I should have stayed and refused to return my money. They shouldn't promote free cancellation basis if that's not how they operate.

Mrs. Sommer would say, "This is the icing on the cake!" For the first time in my 63 years of life, I've finished the vegetables on my (very tasty) rump steak and found it very good. Fiete also said I was "nicer" and would be happy to come back again. That makes me very proud, and I'm happy to give it 5 🌟!

The atmosphere was very cozy, you felt like you were sitting in someone's living room. The plaice was magnificent and the pan-fried fish was superb, and the fried potatoes were both delicious. You've been enjoying delicious fish here for 300 years. They serve as much smelt as you can manage. I just had plaice Finkenwerder style. Since they're small, I had two pieces. It came with a cucumber salad. For the side, you can choose between fried potatoes, potato salad, or regular potatoes. Super delicious. You should reserve a table in advance.

A very nice family-run hotel and restaurant. The vacation apartment was also very nice. The entire stay was thoroughly enjoyable. Trips to Hamburg are easily accessible via the Finkenwerder ferry.

The pre-arranged menu was not only excellently prepared, but the appetizers were even spontaneously adjusted on the day of the celebration – so everyone could try everything. We stopped there for a drink during our bike tour. Unfortunately, it had rained shortly before, so we couldn't sit outside. But the conservatory is also very nice. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We'd be happy to come back.

Seit ca.25Jahren zufriedene(Dauer) Gäste. Ab2013 wg.Umzug nach NRW leider nur noch 1-3X bei Besuchen i .d. alten Heimat möglich. Stets mit Freude die Gastfreundschaft des Hauses genossen. Bei unseren 2 letzten (besonders am 14-05.25)Besuchen bemerkten wir gravierendes Nachlassen von Service,Freundlichkeit v Personal etc. "bei "steigenden Preisen und weniger auf dem Teller....... I was in Cranz for the first time in decades and stopped in for dinner. Luckily, we had a reservation, as the place was very busy. Despite that, none of the service staff seemed rushed or stressed. Simply wonderful. We had a table overlooking the Este River 👍 The food was really excellent; we had an aperitif, plaice, and dessert.

We live in one right now wonderful holiday apartment in the house and asked about the corn plaice today after returning from downtown Hamburg. This was one of the best fish dishes we have ever eaten! Friendly, competent and at the same time unobtrusive service. It couldn't be better! Absolutely within the price range.

Yesterday we were very spontaneous in this great inn. The family that runs this inn gave us a really nice welcome with “It’s nice that you’re here!” The plaice and the potato salad are a poem! Everything homemade, nice terrace by the water and the staff is very attentive. Big recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

I came across the restaurant via Instagram. We spent a wonderful afternoon there. The service was exceptional and very friendly and accommodating from the start. You immediately feel welcome. The corn plaice was unbeatably delicious and personal conversations, house-made drinks and not forgetting the rhubarb crumble were incredibly good. A 100% recommendation. We'll be back.

Unfortunately I have to give one star so that I can write a review. We took a nice bike ride into the old country and set this restaurant as a reward destination. Tables were free and I waited to be seated. Then a gentleman from 10 meters away shouted that we couldn't sit as they wouldn't come after us without asking if we wanted to drink or eat. We weren't wearing cycling gear or anything like that and we looked clean and tidy. That couldn't have been the reason. We will definitely never come here again and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Thanks for nothing.

Quarter to 11 and all the tables in the garden are free, but apparently there is no room, not even for a quick coffee. Customers don't seem to need it, it's better to walk a kilometer to Hintze for coffee

Before 11 all the tables in the garden were free but apparently there was no space. You don't need guests here. Just 1 km further on you can sit in another excellent cafe garden in another location. You can safely ignore this “guest” house here.

A family-run inn. The service was excellent and the staff took their time with the guests and sometimes gave a personal note. The plaice I ate was the best I had ever eaten. Guests come regularly just to eat the plaice. The host also had time to chat with us after dinner. We'll be back.

A very nice restaurant with typical cuisine and fantastic fish dishes. Finally not dead fried fish, less is more. The fried potatoes were great, even though we have a fried potato trauma. Grandma's cucumber salad is not rocket science but delicious.❤️ The reception was great, the ambience, the service was great and the waiters were very good salespeople. Sometimes annoying and intrusive. You have to be careful, say no thank you three times, otherwise you'll be told something you don't want. The asparagus soup tasted great as a starter. A small cup for 9.90 euros is already hefty. Because there were hardly any pieces of asparagus in the soup. We were approached with extra eel as an insert for an additional charge of 3.50 euros. Unfortunately I had to search hard for the eel in the soup. Only a small piece of eel was found. A small tablespoon full. Two three thin slices of asparagus. Otherwise a good restaurant.

Very nice family restaurant with much more than traditional cuisine. Tasty prepared dishes (e.g. asparagus exactly à point with a bit of bite), also served in a tasteful manner. Highly recommended.
