We were here for a birthday party. It's highly recommended. The food was delicious and served very quickly. The service was also excellent. They offer many different kinds of schnitzel, as well as other German dishes. It's definitely worth a visit.

Yesterday, eight of us ate at Schad, including four children. Since we had a reservation, there was already coloring material and crayons ready for all the children 👍. The food was delicious as always, and the service was world-class. We have absolutely no complaints and highly recommend it 🍻

Highly recommended. Even though they were closed and reservations were only possible two days in advance, I spontaneously sent an email inquiry and immediately received a reservation. The service was very friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and the food was absolutely delicious. And the price-performance ratio was perfectly reasonable.

A beautifully decorated, rustic pub which I visited because of its own house brew. And there's no doubt the beer was delicious, but the waiter was a bit odd. I got a table immediately, but it took ages for the beer to be poured and served. Otherwise, I was quite satisfied.

Yesterday at 3:30 PM we wanted to eat at this restaurant. We waited briefly for the waiter. He told us they were fully booked until 4:00 PM. There were only three tables occupied. We were turned away rudely. In the meantime, we had a very friendly and good meal at the Dompfaff. On our way back, at 4:40 PM, we passed the "Schad" again. All the tables were still empty, and we spoke to another waiter who dismissed us rudely with flimsy excuses.

We arrived on Saturday evening at 8:40 pm, and almost half the tables were empty. After asking for a table for two, the waiter simply said, "Unfortunately, we are fully booked…!" Then he turned around and left.

It was a lovely evening. The waiters were incredibly friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

We went there for dinner in the evening with a group of 14 people. What has been written previously about the food and the atmosphere is accurate. However, the unfriendly, not to say arrogant, rudeness of the service will remain a negative memory.

Having to pay €0.50 per person for table decorations is unique and peculiar. Especially since the decorations consisted of nothing more than a candle and a vase with a small rose.

If you like good, home-style cooking, this is the perfect place for you. Very tasty and attractively presented dishes. Attentive, friendly staff without being intrusive. The four stars for this visit are well deserved. I couldn't give the fifth star because it was a bit too cold in the dining room (we sat in the next room) and because they charged a €3.00 fee for a side dish change (mashed potatoes were replaced with roasted potatoes). Unfortunately, this was not communicated by the server when ordering! Dear Schad team: Please reconsider this policy!!!

Good family-run restaurant with a long history in gastronomy

The food was okay, but it's a huge disgrace to charge a total of €5 for a wilted flower standing in moldy water, a wooden heart, a salt/pepper mill, and a candle. It's nothing special, especially since it can be reused for each guest. The chairs were very hard. We were there with several older people, and we weren't told that there were seat cushions. We only noticed them ourselves when we left.

Super nice restaurant, would go back anytime. I highly recommend it. Was here again yesterday, very good and fast service (Justin was great). Always highly recommended.

A rustic, historic ambiance with delicious cuisine. The menu is limited, but all the more delicious for it. A retelling of historical figures, local sports figures, and celebrities. Even the littlest ones have been thought of. Our table neighbor spontaneously offered us a glass of "Marille" (apricot) fruit brandy! Delicious. Highly recommended, and we'd love to come back. Quick anecdote: We were here spontaneously on Saturday and couldn't get a table because we hadn't reserved. However, they kindly canceled our reservation with the words: "Unfortunately, we don't have a table available, but it's great that you tried us. We'd love to come back in the next few days."

Last night, October 6, 2025, we celebrated our anniversary at Schad in style. We've known this quaint restaurant for a long time. The food is always delicious, including some great vegan dishes. The service was super friendly and attentive. All in all, a wonderful evening. Thank you for that... See you next time, because we felt very comfortable with you.

Great perfect food huge portions....cozy

I wanted to eat at a good old German brew house style place and Gasthaus Zum Schad did not disappoint! The menu was all in german and i had a bit of a translation problem with the waiter so in the end he asked me what i wanted, he looked up a photo on his phone and put an order through. Basically, I asked for a roast pork meal and that is what i got and it was perfect. The pork was tender, the dumplings and krautsalat were delicious, even the salad garnish was excellent. Best meal i've had in Germany. Highly recommend, i was only stopping overnight otherwise i would totally eat here again.

The service was excellent; it's rare to find someone who enjoys their job and is easy to laugh with. The food was simply fantastic; we haven't had such a good meal in a long time. The fruit schnapps afterward, and the way it's poured, is also simply fantastic. Next time we're in Halle, we'll definitely be back.

I was on an empty stomach while traveling through Halle and stopped in. It was packed, and the noise level was accordingly high. It was okay, but not ideal for conversation. Anyway, I ordered food – home-style cooking – which was okay, but nothing more. Too expensive for the standard, and the service was a bit overwhelmed. It took forever to take my order. The delivery was quicker. Whether that's a good thing is up to you to decide. The atmosphere was rustic and old-fashioned – typical brewery style. Conclusion: One visit was enough.

In any case, you can have a great meal there. There's so much on the plate that a senior citizen's portion would have been enough for me. The atmosphere is lovely, with chairs labeled with names that celebrities have supposedly sat on. For me, it was Gunter Gabriel. The service leaves nothing to be desired. There's also a lovely beer garden. We felt completely at home.

We first tried the restaurant with enthusiasm and then visited it again with our group. It was no one-night stand: We can only rate the quality of the food, service, and ambiance as very good. However, I would set the price for a 3L beer at around €25 to create an incentive for groups. We'd be happy to come back!

It was nice to finally find a good restaurant serving German cuisine. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The menu had a good selection. The food was delicious and the portions were plentiful, huge. The Königsberger Klopse (meatballs), schnitzel, and aspic were very tasty, especially the aspic with fried potatoes, which I added with vinegar and oil! So many famous guests have been to the restaurant that we were happy to join them 😀. We can happily recommend the restaurant. We felt very comfortable. There are no photos, just go and enjoy. Back here after a year. We received excellent service, ate very well, and felt at home again.
