Gasthaus "Zum Schad" in Halle (Saale)

Last night, October 6, 2025, we celebrated our anniversary at Schad in style. We've known this quaint restaurant for a long time. The food is always delicious, including some great vegan dishes. The service was super friendly and attentive. All in all, a wonderful evening. Thank you for that... See you next time, because we felt very comfortable with you.

Great perfect food huge portions....cozy

I wanted to eat at a good old German brew house style place and Gasthaus Zum Schad did not disappoint! The menu was all in german and i had a bit of a translation problem with the waiter so in the end he asked me what i wanted, he looked up a photo on his phone and put an order through. Basically, I asked for a roast pork meal and that is what i got and it was perfect. The pork was tender, the dumplings and krautsalat were delicious, even the salad garnish was excellent. Best meal i've had in Germany. Highly recommend, i was only stopping overnight otherwise i would totally eat here again.

We stopped in there yesterday by chance and were lucky enough to get two tables without having to make a reservation. The service was excellent; it's rare to find someone who enjoys their job and is easy to laugh with. The food was simply fantastic; we haven't had such a good meal in a long time. The fruit schnapps afterward, and the way it's poured, is also simply fantastic. Next time we're in Halle, we'll definitely be back.

Rustic German cuisine at its finest. The dishes are hearty, yet delicately prepared and made with the finest ingredients. Whether goulash, dumplings, or fresh vegetables: everything tastes authentic, high-quality, and lovingly cooked. The service is warm and professional, and the ambiance is cozy and inviting. If you want to enjoy German classics in a high-quality form, this is the place for you.

I was on an empty stomach while traveling through Halle and stopped in. It was packed, and the noise level was accordingly high. It was okay, but not ideal for conversation. Anyway, I ordered food – home-style cooking – which was okay, but nothing more. Too expensive for the standard, and the service was a bit overwhelmed. It took forever to take my order. The delivery was quicker. Whether that's a good thing is up to you to decide. The atmosphere was rustic and old-fashioned – typical brewery style. Conclusion: One visit was enough.

Classic German food selection. House beer is not that good, but there is choice of other beers. Place not in the best surroundings, but they created nice terrace atmosphere

An absolute MUST-DO when in Halle. A traditional inn with 45 years of history. If there were 10 points to give for the service, food, and ambiance, we would. We always enjoy coming back.

I come here almost every Friday with my girlfriend. We always look forward to delicious food, delicious wine, and the apricot to finish. The service is excellent. The guys are friendly and attentive. In any case, you can have a great meal there. There's so much on the plate that a senior citizen's portion would have been enough for me. The atmosphere is lovely, with chairs labeled with names that celebrities have supposedly sat on. For me, it was Gunter Gabriel. The service leaves nothing to be desired. There's also a lovely beer garden. We felt completely at home.

So, first of all, I celebrated my birthday on April 5th and it was awesome. I even got a table for tomorrow at short notice. The staff was super friendly, and the food was amazing. I highly recommend it... Greetings to the chef, see you tomorrow.

Apart from the fact that the food and drinks are excellent, what prompted me to write this review was the consistently great service from the waiters.

We really enjoyed our meal here; the service was friendly and prompt. There are also lovely outdoor seating areas with a view of a beautifully painted wall.

A very pleasant atmosphere, the food is delicious and plentiful. No one has to leave hungry. 😉 Highly recommended, and the homemade lemonades are worth trying. I tried the mango lemonade and it was delicious. 👌🏻

Today was also the first time we sat outside. The gentlemen who were there today were once again very friendly. The food was hot and, above all, delicious. We first tried the restaurant with enthusiasm and then visited it again with our group. It was no one-night stand: We can only rate the quality of the food, service, and ambiance as very good. However, I would set the price for a 3L beer at around €25 to create an incentive for groups. We'd be happy to come back!

It was nice to finally find a good restaurant serving German cuisine. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The menu had a good selection. The food was delicious and the portions were plentiful, huge. The Königsberger Klopse (meatballs), schnitzel, and aspic were very tasty, especially the aspic with fried potatoes, which I added with vinegar and oil! So many famous guests have been to the restaurant that we were happy to join them 😀. We can happily recommend the restaurant. We felt very comfortable. There are no photos, just go and enjoy. Back here after a year. We received excellent service, ate very well, and felt at home again.

Yes, Schad's restaurant has always been good

Service OK. Waiting 45 minutes for the main course is simply too long. You will also be informed that you have only waited 40 minutes. That is also too long. I can also spend my money elsewhere. Schnitzel OK, served with fries and strange tasting mayonnaise, the 2nd beer was forgotten and brought after I asked twice. Tafelspitz is delicious. Conclusion: you can but I don't have to.

Operation and service was great, there was nothing to complain about. On the contrary, we were looked after in a friendly and timely manner: the team at the counter and in the galley was well organized. The food looked good and tasted just as good, which makes you happy. The house beer also tasted good on the tongue, so our visit will be remembered fondly. I deducted one star from the ambience, as I think there is still room for improvement. Otherwise a place to feel good, thanks to the Schad team!

Discovered during the visit not far on foot from the market square. The restaurant is an institution in Halle, has great service and a nice ambience. It's best to stop by the quiet little place there. Some prominent personalities have immortalized themselves along the way. When it came to eating, I decided on the homemade Königsberger meatballs. Rarely eaten so well, really a recommendation. I'd love to stop by again 😊

Actually, we just wanted to have a leisurely beer, but then we also treated ourselves to a solyanka. That was a good decision, the dark house beer was delicious and the soup was delicious, the service was very nice and friendly and the ambience was great too. Everything was just right here.

I went with a group of 15 people. The service was extremely slow. They put my plate for another person in the group and after 5 minutes they took it away from that person and put it on me!!! Also the food was overcooked. There are much better alternatives in Halle

This time I was personally very disappointed. Veggie burger made from vegetables cold and not really tasty. Service not really pleasant this time. Pass across the table and over other guests instead of walking around. Too bad. However, if you like schnitzel and fried food, this is the place for you.
