The atmosphere outside is great. The service staff seemed a little distant, but there was still a lot to do. The food was good. Starter and then ate asparagus and some meat. It was delicious, tender and beautifully prepared. Since I don't like taking photos, there aren't any. There isn't much more to say about it. Try it out there.

I didn't think it was so nice to sell 3 stalks of asparagus as 250g. Otherwise everything was pretty good overall.

I have never experienced such bad service. There were 6 of us and the service staff were unable to offer us a table. There were many tables available, but according to the service staff it was not possible to put tables together. An employee finally made a little effort and offered us a table where we had enough space with one more chair. Less than 5 minutes later, her extremely unfriendly colleague came over and said that it couldn't be done that way and that we had to get up. In the end, I'm glad we didn't spend any money there. The way we were spoken to and treated there was really underground!

0 stars – scandalous service, absolutely not recommended! The name of the shop is Zum Rauhen Mann, “To the Rauhen Ton” would be a better fit… I've rarely left a restaurant as upset as I was here. There were six of us and there were a lot of tables available - so we thought it wouldn't be a problem to put a few together. But as soon as we entered, we were very rudely informed by an employee that absolutely no tables were allowed to be put together. When I asked why, all I got was a tired shrug of the shoulders - no explanation, no understanding, just pure rudeness. Then, suddenly, the same employee came up to us and offered us a seat at a table for four – with two additional chairs. Not ideal, but we were grateful that there was at least some movement and accepted the offer. We thought: It's working now. But far from it! As soon as we sat down and wanted to order, another employee came along - and what followed was an absolute disgrace. He treated us completely disrespectfully, literally hissing at us that this seating arrangement wouldn't work at all. He didn't have an explanation either, instead there were just rude comments and a tone that you might otherwise expect on the football field, but certainly not in the restaurant industry. This is no way to treat guests! Especially not if they are friendly and willing to compromise. This employee's behavior was not only inappropriate, it was downright shameful. One thing is clear to me: not a cent will be spent here anymore. Anyone who values ​​hospitality, service or even a touch of politeness should give this place a wide berth. Scandalous – there’s no other way to call it.

Yesterday early in the evening we had dinner at 'Zum rauhen Mann' in Freiburg/Breisgau. It started with the fact that the chair that my husband had moved to the right of me to get a better view had to be put back as it was before, otherwise he, the waiter, wouldn't be able to get through with two plates. My later observation was that it was probably intended to make it more difficult to get through to the neighboring restaurant, because it was full, which we unfortunately noticed too late. A table in the sun became available and we changed. For once, I craved half a chicken with fries and salad. It happens once a year. The chicken was so dry because it had been cooked for far too long and was probably heated up in the microwave last but not least to get it warm again. The fries were bland and lukewarm, the salad had too much sauce. When I asked whether the waiter's question was okay and I said no, I only received a lame, incomprehensible answer. My husband's meal, two sausages with fried potatoes and salad, was ok, but nothing more. So a real disappointment.

Asparagus soup was lukewarm and thick, no asparagus to be found, schnitzel was good, fries too greasy, salad somewhat salty, the man at the service ran from the outside terrace to the guests inside, the atmosphere of the restaurant was old-fashioned and cozy

Unfortunately disappointing - not a recommendation We sat outside for 45 minutes and in the entire time we were not asked for drinks nor was an order taken. A waiter came by several times and said, “I’ll be right there,” but nothing happened. When we finally spoke to a waiter ourselves, they suddenly said that the kitchen was closing and they were already putting things together. To us, the team seemed overwhelmed and not very service-oriented. It's a shame - that's not how you imagine a visit to a restaurant.

Best Bavarian food in Freiburg even near back forest( schwartzward) Fish is amazing fresh, pork knuckle is tender and savory. Flammkuchen is so gorgoues and homemade. Price is good and people leave good reviews coins and happy faces. Smile 😊

Unfortunately a disappointment. Poorly cooked and unfriendly service. You don't have to be a gourmet and you don't have to expect miracles in a pub to be horrified by overcooked food that was served carelessly. Spaetzle as soft as porridge. Ingredients for the canned Salta. And a ready-made sauce for the meat. The highlight was the hard stalk of a cauliflower, without florets, as a side dish. Everyone cooks better in private!

On a day trip in Freiburg we were happy about a good and delicious meal. The Gasthaus zum Rauhen Mann was on the way into the city and made a nice impression with an outdoor terrace and located directly on the Bächle. We ordered bratwursts with Brägele (fried potatoes) and salad twice. There was no nice greeting here. The waiter seemed a bit rough and unsympathetic. He couldn't score any more points with a quick comment when ordering. When the food was brought out, I had to smile a little inwardly and asked myself whether this was meant seriously. The bratwursts looked and tasted like grilled sausages. The sauce tasted like cheap, ready-made sauce, the mini vegetable side dish tasted like nothing and the fried potatoes were super greasy. Only the salad scored points here. Conclusion: Nice outdoor location, but I can't recommend the food. It's a shame, you could do a lot more with it!

Looking for a traditional restaurant we decided to have lunch in this one. A large square with many tables occupied by local people. Although we ran into a grumpy waiter who was in a hurry and who at no time made the effort to understand each other in English, although he did address other tables of tourists (sorry but our knowledge of 'German are very fair and we did what we could with Google Lens). We were able to enjoy the "Sauerbraten Mit Spätzle" roast with its intensely flavored sauce and the "Schnitzel Mit Pommes" escalope, both accompanied by a salad plate with sweet and sour cucumber. Dishes that were recommended to us by two German girls with whom we kindly shared our bewilderment (Danke!). The dishes were generous in quantity and very tasty accompanied by local beer. We would repeat.

The tarte flambée base was even fried due to the dripping cheese fat. The menu is completely overloaded and confusing. Some dishes are repeated several times. Why not reduce your offering to 10 really good dishes instead of making 100 bad ones? The location is great, make something of it!!

Actually a very nice place to enjoy dinner in Freiburg. I had a sausage salad, but was "a little" disappointed. We were there in the month of July on a somewhat rainy day but it was very pleasant to eat on this terrace sheltered from the rain since it has large umbrellas. The environment is very quiet despite being located in the canal area and having a lot of tourist movement, but being located in a small corner square it is the perfect place to have a quiet meal. We were three diners and we ordered a kind of pizza that was huge and that they call Elsasser flammkuchen which translated is flambéed cake from Alsace, a typical dish with mushrooms, fried egg and potato pancakes called Gebrat Pfiffis and a plate of Bratwürst They were very rich. The portions are quite large and you are more than satisfied. Priced quite well since the product is good and you are in the heart of the city. The only thing to improve is the waiting time, there was only one waitress for the entire terrace and all the tables were occupied.

We came with high expectations due to the good Google reviews. Unfortunately, both of our dishes (dumplings and chanterelles and spaetzle) were lukewarm to cold. It was tasty, but not exceptionally good. However, you sit very nicely right on the river in a nice atmosphere!

We came with a small group of 6 people. around 10 p.m to have a little something to eat. The five of us ordered chanterelle omelette. Instead of an omelette, I received scrambled eggs with chanterelles, which were unseasoned but warm and carelessly spread out on the plate!

We have eaten here twice. The menu has a huge range of German dishes, a good kids menu, and the list of "light dishes", like sausages or lard with bread, that always makes us laugh. Good location and the restaurant has outdoor seating in the front near the canal or in a garden at the back. This time we had spargel with smoked salmon from the seasonal menu. It was OK, not top quality. The schnitzel had excellent seasoning and was good, though I prefer it to be thinner. French fries are splendid. Overall a pleasant place to eat with plenty of options, including pork knuckle and roast pork.

The outdoor terrace - a wonderful place to stay or eat! Fantastically located under shady trees, next to the small river with the crocodile. Relatively quiet location, friendly service. Unfortunately, the only waitress was overwhelmed by the large number of visitors (she can't help it, just a lack of staff!), despite intensive efforts. The quality of the food (salad, cheese spaetzle) and the cold drinks were wonderful, the spaetzle almost perfect! The price is a bit high, but appropriate for the location. There are toilets in the “main restaurant” in the basement (stairs!). These were clean and almost flawless. We would be happy to come back on our next visit.

We spontaneously ate here today and had an asparagus salad with salmon for 21 euros that was so incredibly small that we were shocked when it came to the table. Spices and the supposed raspberry dressing were probably forgotten, we had to add salt 4 times because it really didn't taste like anything. My friend had tomato rice with champions, and the portion for 17 euros was simply cheeky. The wine tasted great, the service was quick and competent, but otherwise we definitely wouldn't come back and definitely wouldn't recommend the shop, for the prices and the bland food, no thanks...

The service is really OK and efficient. The atmosphere is very nice inside and it can be really enjoyable outside, considering that the small water stream nearby brings a bit of freshness. The food is unfortunately but average. I had a pork steak that was slightly overcooked with slightly overcooked veggies and Spätzle that were a bit mushy. Prices are OK though.

An hour after the end of the game, after our team had handed SC Freiburg a 4-1 home defeat, we wanted to have dinner at the "Gasthaus zum rauhen Mann", wearing the away team's jersey. A waitress immediately wanted to turn to us and assign us a table outside. In the meantime we turned to a waiter who apparently seemed very unfriendly and told us he didn't have a table for us! After another table became available, we turned to him again, he ignored us and turned to other guests (wearing the FC Freiburg jersey) and assigned them a table! We learned that guest fans are not welcome in the “Gasthaus zum rauhen Mann”!

Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience. Food is generally good but not outstanding. Unfortunately, the service was completely overwhelmed and therefore quite unfriendly. There were two employees responsible for everything. Waiting time was forever. If you had a question or needed something, the answer was "Not now, I'll be right there." Very unfortunate. But the outdoor area is a no-brainer, super beautiful!

Wrong bill and tip request. Because the children's spaetzle had an absolutely watery sauce, I only tipped 90 cents. The waitress pointed out that a 10% tip is customary. Given our bill, that would have been a completely unreasonable €9. We later discovered that there were 2 drinks too many on the bill. Nobody had a cappuccino and I only had one pilsner. Fraud and demanding tips - we haven't experienced anything like that in a long time.

13€ is way too much for this dish. Cheap ingredients and boring taste. But the salad was delicious and the service was friendly Update (March 18, 2024, almost three years later): The restaurant is threatening me - and other guests - with a legal letter and wants to delete my review. Absolutely dodgy. But the photo speaks for itself. Rice, tomato sauce, hardly any spices and the bland mushrooms for €13 are no better in my memory than they were back then.

Unfortunately, the location still brings them enough guests... Such a bad restaurant should learn its lesson from empty seats!
