Gasthaus Zum Engel - Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden

We were there for a family celebration with 14 people (with a reservation). The problems continued throughout the evening. It started with the daily specials menu, which listed pork knuckle and goose leg. There was no pork knuckle, and they were out of red cabbage for the goose leg! Instead, they offered a side salad. When we asked why it was still on the menu, the answer was that they hadn't gotten around to removing it yet. The schnitzel arrived with soggy breading and cold fries, and the hand cheese schnitzel came with raw onions. Almost all the dishes were different from what we ordered and were rather unappealingly presented. When we ordered drinks again, the response was that it wasn't possible right now, as they had to serve food. The service was generally very inattentive. There was no apology or any other form of compensation. Overall, absolutely not recommended.

The restaurant has more the charm of a clubhouse. The service is moderately friendly. The food consists mostly of convenience products. The cranberries were forgotten on the baked Camembert. There are better options.

I sincerely hope we just caught them on a bad day, but our experience there was unfortunately quite negative. We were a group of 14 people for a pre-arranged and booked party. We were informed in advance that preparation would take longer and that we should therefore order promptly. However, we didn't receive the menus until 20 minutes after our arrival. The food itself took over an hour to arrive. The two expensive steaks were unfortunately far beyond medium-rare. Our request for croquettes instead of fries, which we had specified in advance, was ignored. The roast goose leg arrived already shredded on the plate. The additional sauces we ordered had a pudding-like consistency. The Spätzle, which we ordered without onions, arrived almost an hour and a half later with onions. With a "Oh, I'll bring you a spoon so you can scrape them off," the waitress took the pan back and scraped off half of the onions. Unfortunately, it still didn't work, so we waited another half hour for the Spätzle, which were once again served with onions. Thankfully, our child had helped herself to food from everyone else present beforehand, so she was finally full. A single dumpling for a child arrived amidst the first batch of Spätzle, also after more than an hour and a half. When we tried to order drinks again during the meal, we received the unprofessional response, "I have to bring food to the tables now and don't have time for drinks." After a full half hour, they finally arrived... The table wasn't cleared until over an hour after we had finished eating. So, all in all, a complete failure, not to mention that we were charged for meals we hadn't even ordered. It's a shame, but we won't be returning.

The schnitzel was "okay," but the fries were very greasy and soggy. And the draft beer wasn't cold. Empty glasses, inattentive service. The toilet had no seat.

Unfortunately, due to staff shortages, it was not a pleasant visit.

They tried to tell me that their nuggets look like mini schnitzels, uh, yeah, okay. So, I've been ordering food all over Wiesbaden for a long time to see how it tastes, but this restaurant, once and never again.

It was always good under the previous owners, but our last visit was a complete disaster... no friendly welcome, a rushed head waiter (apparently the owner), no tablecloth, food and drinks were either carelessly thrown on the table or delivered incorrectly, schnitzel without a side salad (which costs extra), thin and pale fries, espresso and coffee without sugar, no thank you for the tip – all in all a disappointment. We'll never go there again, sorry...

We're absolute fans. We love sitting in the beer garden with a shandy, a beer, and a schnitzel, while the friendly, attentive staff attend to our every need.

There were several of us there, and everyone ate different things, and none of them were good. The worst was the pork loin. The schnitzel was the worst meat we'd ever eaten. And the fried potatoes were black. I think that might be due to the Schlemmerblock (food block). But as we left, we saw that another portion of pork loin had been sent back. We won't be going back to this restaurant, even if the meal was free.

You can walk in without an appointment and get a good meal served at your table. Highly recommended! Just be sure to check the opening hours! By the way, the service is very friendly.

Update We were there again recently - the old waiter was back and the food tasted great again. - we're very happy - we'll gladly go again - the beer garden season isn't that long anymore :-) What a shame... ... we've been guests at the Engel for many years and go there often and enjoy it. However, since our last visits, we've been increasingly disappointed. The portions are getting smaller and more carelessly presented each time. The music in the beer garden is much too loud, but you get used to the continuous loop. So it's becoming increasingly easier to try the new competitor in the immediate vicinity, which serves the same beer – only much cooler. What a shame - we'll try the Engel again sometime, but for now, we're "satisfied."

We were there for dinner tonight for the first and last time. We even had a reservation... but it wasn't busy... My hamburger was inedible, burnt, and hard... Indefinable! The onions were too fatty and partly raw. We wanted other side dishes... but we were told no... Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures. I've never experienced anything like this before. I don't understand how anyone could serve such a dish. Both meals were inedible!!! We were simply very disappointed... I should also mention... we had the gourmet block... perhaps that wasn't requested!

Slow service, which may have been due to a large party seated in the biergarden. Otherwise, a lovely outside setting, quiet atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, and absolutely amazing schnitzel with a mushroom cream sauce. Highly recommend.

The beef steak with toast and salad and the Swiss cheese schnitzel were delicious. Reasonable value for money. The service was good and friendly, and the atmosphere in the courtyard garden was very pleasant.

This was our first time here at the Engel beer garden. We made a reservation, but it wasn't necessary, as there were several tables available. Parking is right in the backyard. Drinks and food arrived in a reasonable time. We really enjoyed the quiet surroundings; we'll be back and recommend it to others. The portions were quite large, so we got a doggie bag.

Today I went to the Gasthaus Engel for dinner again. I ate a rump steak that I haven't had in a long time, cooked to perfection. There was live music again 🎶 from two musicians, who entertained us brilliantly. I think the Gasthaus Engel is fantastic and I always enjoy coming back. Kudos to the entire crew.

First, we recommend making a reservation. A Saturday night on a whim is difficult. The schnitzel was super delicious, and the croquettes on the side were more than adequate. We didn't try the side salad for €6. We'd be happy to go again.

Visit at the end of April 2026: We found a seat in the restaurant's garden on a sunny day without a reservation Pepper cream schnitzel and onion schnitzel (turkey) were good in quality and taste. The service too. We felt comfortable and would visit the restaurant again. Given the price/performance ratio, there are 5 stars overall.

I wasn't the last to order, but I was the last to be served. And unfortunately only upon request. Fried potatoes cut far too thick and uneven, banished in some places and otherwise left in the pan for far too short a time. They also crumbled when you tried to pierce them with a fork. The schnitzel was only in the pan for a short time and was therefore much too light, with a champion cream sauce in a hollandaise-like variation. I strongly assume that they simply forgot my food and then quickly "improvised" when I asked. There was no apology or compensation. In such cases, attentive waiters used to offer you at least one drink on the house. However, I could imagine that you can otherwise eat quite well here. We were there as a group and the rest of the dishes looked pretty good (the fried potatoes also looked like fried potatoes).

If you are looking for a restaurant with German cuisine in Wiesbaden, then you can find it at the “Zum Engel” inn in Erbenheim’s old town. For most schnitzels you can choose between pork or turkey. Yesterday the restaurant was very full and the service was a little overloaded. We were able to order drinks once in 90 minutes, but we had to wait more than an hour for our food - like everyone else in the restaurant. When the food came, the schnitzels were only slightly lukewarm and the French fries were cold (which also significantly lowers the overall rating). The quality of the meat as well as the taste were nevertheless very good and recommended. We will definitely try again soon.

Wollten nach einer Veranstaltung in Wiesbaden mal wieder in ein deutsches Restaurant und haben uns das ausgesucht. Die Bedienung sehr nett und das Gasthaus sauber. Der Salat und warmes Essen waren lecker aber nichts besonderes. Als Nachspeise Kaiserschmarren waren fettige, frittierte Würfel und nicht was man sonst erwartet. Das Gasthaus hat bis 23 Uhr auf und um 22.15 waren wir die letzten Gäste . Die Musik wurde ausgemacht und aufgeräumt. Da kam man sich rausgeschmissen vor und wir sind aufgebrochen. Die Rechnung war auch noch falsch, zwar nur 2 Euro aber trotzdem ärgerlich. Wir werden dort nicht mehr hin.

Old German inn with typical "charm". Some corners have been modernized a little but without creating a line. Service was friendly and committed but the poor guy was alone for service and drinks... So everything took a really long time. The food was very mixed. The steaks are through like shoe soles, the cheese spaetzle is really inedible, there is only water and hollandaise sauce. I've never eaten anything like that before. Schnitzel was quite OK and you at least heard a knock from the kitchen. The dishes from the daily menu with sauce (hock & goulash) were delicious. Handkäs was classic and good. We will probably come again in the summer and spend time in the beer garden. But we probably won't "try" the kitchen again.

We had the pleasure of dining at the Gasthaus zum Engel in Wiesbaden in the evening and overall our visit was very positive. The food was really tasty and we enjoyed it, which is the essence of a successful restaurant visit. The menu offered a good selection and the dishes were freshly prepared and attractively served. A small downside, however, was the shandy we ordered, which didn't quite meet our expectations. We would deduct half a star here. There were also minimal compromises in the overall impression of the taste, but these are of a more subjective nature. Therefore, half a star would be deducted. Despite these small points of criticism, we are very satisfied and can recommend the Gasthaus zum Engel without hesitation. The beer garden is certainly a highlight, especially in summer. Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to experience it in the evening, but the idea of ​​sitting outside in nice weather and enjoying the cozy atmosphere definitely makes us want to visit again. Conclusion: A down-to-earth, cozy inn with delicious food and a promising beer garden. Clear recommendation – we would love to come back! 4 out of 5 stars.

Were there at Easter with 9 people, The service was nice and attentive. The dishes (schnitzel, minced steak) all came almost at the same time. The quantity of the food was just right, it couldn't have been more and it was hot. Nothing was cool, let alone cold. The schnitzels were all relatively thick and didn't take forever to flatten. Breading was fluffy and loose. The cream sauce was also ok. The ambience...it's a classic local pub/restaurant. Good bourgeois. Overall recommended.

Cozy beer garden in the courtyard. Nice menu, very friendly and attentive service. We were there with the Schlemmerblock and ate schnitzel and burgers. Price-quality ratio is very expensive, food is nothing special. PLEASE DO NOT TIP THEM AS THEY ADD IT TO THE BILL THEMSELVES!!! Paid almost €20 extra in tip! 6 people all had fries but didn't get mayo, had to ask twice and then we got a small bowl for 1 person. Also we had to ask for the cutlery AFTER the food was brought to the table. No extras such as salt and pepper on the table. Not recommended!

It was a nice atmosphere outside, with decent food. Unfortunately there were only 2 waitresses working, so things were forgotten. Had to ask twice for sauce and the food arrived before the cutlery. Unfortunately, we only saw afterwards that there was automatically a €20 tip on the bill! So they simply calculate this themselves without permission!

We can only confirm the good reviews here! Friendly, obliging, quick service and really high-quality, tasty food. Portions generously sized! Very tasty hand cheese, salads in the good old style. Well-kept drinks, pleasantly chilled and served nimbly. Bembel cider premium. 5 star recommendation, also for the price-performance ratio! The atmosphere in the rustic, cozy beer garden is great, the interior of the restaurant is rather rustic and simple, we really liked it!

Very nice restaurant with a nice, large beer garden and live music every Saturday from 6:00 p.m. The food is great and the boss, as well as the employees, are always friendly and nice. There is a small parking lot right in front of the door and everything is handicapped accessible. You can definitely recommend this place and the live music, which consists of a singer and a guitarist who play everything from dance music to swing and pop, makes a cozy get-together an experience.

Nice restaurant with good value for money In summer you can eat and drink wonderfully in your own beer garden in the courtyard. Very nice waitresses and the chefs do a great job. Whenever I'm in Wiesbaden, I definitely go there once. Clear recommendation!

I was in Wiesbaden for work and on my last night I had to get my schnitzel fix. Service was great and the food was phenomenal. Nice portions plus very healthy pours of wine. The thing that put this restaurant over the top was what they did after I paid and left. My rental car was towed and they went out of their way to locate the car and not only that, Kevin, one of the workers there drove me to pick up my car and wouldn’t take anything for his troubles. He summed it up perfectly when he said he was just doing the humane thing and take care of people. This will be the only restaurant I eat at when I come back to Wiesbaden. Bravo Zum Engel!

Simply fantastic in every way. As is often the case, the restaurant was completely booked. We were advised that the food may take some time. Nevertheless, it came within a normal framework. Two young men were serving in the restaurant itself. They are a well-coordinated team. Everything went smoothly and routinely and without hecticness. Very, very pleasant. The kitchen staff is a dream. In addition to the full restaurant, they also manage to operate a delivery service. As always, our food was great and lovingly prepared. We reordered a few things and it came exactly as requested. People are still listening here. That doesn't exist everywhere. It is not insignificant that everything is very well maintained and clean and the sanitary facilities are very clean. Negative reviews from a long time ago cannot be from this owner. We can recommend the angel with a clear conscience!

Abbiamo cenato in questo ristorante principalmente perchè non era molto lontano dall'hotel in cui abbiamo soggiornato. Il ristorante offre piatti tipici, non c'è moltissima scelta ma si può trovare un pò di tutto. Il locale è accogliente, in stile tedesco, i piatti che abbiamo ordinato erano buoni, il personale molto cortese, servizio veloc. Una buona cena.

Went to the Gasthaus Zum Engel Erbenheim again on Saturday. Food was very good. Service was nice, friendly and quick. Maybe there was something that could be done about the soundproofing.

Very nice and attentive service. There were 4 of us and the food came to the table relatively promptly for each course. The beef roulades are worth recommending. At the moment there are different versions of goose dinner as a daily menu. The dessert, apple strudel or Kaiserschmarn, is rather boring because it is not homemade. In any case, it's worth visiting and eating here. We'll be back 👌👍

Wir waren mit 6 Personen im Gasthaus zum Engel. Das Ambiente und die Einrichtung ist einfach. Die Speisekarte gut und umfangreich. Das Essen war absolut fantastisch. Die Menge ausreichend. Qualität war sehr gut. Selbst der Kaiserschmarrn ist hervorragend. Die Preise sind wirklich entspannt. Absolute Empfehlung.

Das Lokal liegt im Ortskern von Wiesbaden / Erbenheim und ist eine echte Empfehlung und Besuch wert! Von außen schön anzusehen, befindet sich im inneren Hofbereich ein ruhig gelegener kleiner Biergarten. Innen ist die Gaststätte sehr gemütlich und ansprechend eingerichtet mit zahlreichen Plätzen in mehreren Räumen. Sehr sauber und aufgeräumt (Ob Tisch, Boden etc.) lädt es zum verweilen ein. WLAN ist sehr gut und stark. WC Bereich ist sehr reinlich und in voller Funktion. Der Service ob nun Küche, Theke oder Annahme ist sehr nett, aufmerksam und nah am Gast. Tolles junges Team mit viel Liebe und Elan. Die Karte ist nicht überfrachtet aber von sehr schmackhafter Auswahl auch für unterschiedliche Essgewohnheiten. Kleine wie große Speisen, auch Vegetarisch, saisonal, Nach- und Vorweg – alles was das Herz begehrt. Preise sind dabei im Verhältnis von Speisenqualität zu Quantität zu Geschmack und Darbietung mehr als fair! War mehrfach zu Gast und hatte u.a. den Kombiteller Gänsebrust und Keule mit Rotkohl und Klöße, Herrentoast sowie Bauernhaxe vom Grill. Alles durchweg spitzenmäßig in jeder Hinsicht! Ein frohlocken der Geschmacksposaunen!! Es lohnt sich definitiv und ist umfassend zu empfehlen!

Wir besuchen das Gasthaus zum Engel seit einigen Jahren mehrmals im Monat. Die Qualität der Speisen ist ausgezeichnet, auch optisch hervorragend angerichtet, auf dem Niveau deutlich gehobener (und viel teurerer!) Gastronomie. Wir genießen die herzliche Bedienung und die familiäre Atmosphäre. Hervor zu heben ist außerdem der gemütliche, schön gestaltete Biergarten im Hof. Volle Empfehlung!
