Gasthaus Stuhlmacher in Münster

Home-style restaurant, classic Westphalian cuisine. I was lucky enough to get a table.

We were in Münster over the weekend and, after an extremely interesting tour of the city, followed the recommendation of a local and stopped at the Stuhlmacher. We were hungry and quickly got a table in this quaint restaurant. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly, our waitress in particular was cheerful and was full of good humor and fun at work. From the extensive menu we chose greaves with bread for €5.60 as a starter, a Westphalian potato soup for €9, a salad with chicken breast strips for €18.50 and the Westphalian Krüstchen (schnitzel) with fried egg and fried potatoes for €21.90 . I also had the lard, which somehow tasted almost nothing like lard. Can you thin or stretch lard? Maybe with butter? It doesn't matter, it wasn't a hit. The potato soup was just as tasteless as the soup the night before in the “Großer Kiepenkerl”. My schnitzel was very fatty and went very well with the fried potatoes, to which - for whatever reason - they had added a spoonful of raw bacon cubes. You may have forgotten them while frying. The fried egg was great. I can't say anything about the salad, I haven't tried it. No dessert was chosen. Conclusion: Price/performance doesn't seem to be an issue in Münster. Some of the below-average food is sold at horrendous prices. If we come to Münster again, we won't stop at the Stuhlmacher. Sorry. Three stars because of the friendly service.

Great ambience in the heart of Münster, delicious food and beer! The waiters don't take their jobs seriously. When you raise your arm you are waved at and if you don't look closely at the bill, a few beers are either simply slapped on top or even doubled. This has happened several times now!

Food (schnitzel) was tasteless and looked like hospital food. Waiter was quite good, mainly older guests present. As for beer, it was very tasty.

We only had something to drink there. We sat outside at the tables in the sun and enjoyed two beers. That was delicious and beautiful! However, as vegetarians we wouldn't necessarily go there to eat as the selection is very limited.

Na een leuk uitstapje naar Munster eindigde we de dag bij Stuhlmacher. We zaten in het knus ingerichte restaurant boven in. Helaas werden we op een zeer onbeleefde manier geholpen door een forse oudere dame met bril, waardoor we zijn geschrokken. Met een rare nasmaak verlieten we Munster. De rest van het personeel oogde wel een stuk vriendelijker.

Unfortunately, the vegetarian/vegan offering here is very poor, unimaginative and absolutely overpriced. It stands to reason that the vegetarian/vegan dishes subsidize the meat dishes - there's no other way to explain a lentil bolognese for €20. In a city like Münster you expect more - the competition is much better positioned. Unfortunately, the visit to the restaurant was part of an event and you didn't have the opportunity to go to another location.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, but the counter staff and the staff in the beer hall are anything but nice and committed, you had the impression that they were a nuisance, not a second time

If there were 10 stars, they would be deserved!

Everything is harmonious: rustic and cozy, friendly, attentive service and good food. (Our food: pepperpotthast or corn-fed chicken breast.)

"Hot" food was good. The next day TERRINE veg. Ordered Kartoffelsuppe. The BIG one for €9. Then I would have wanted to know whether any soup could be found in the small Suppe of €7. Really scandalous. A cozy interior. The staff is under work pressure, I think.

You should definitely visit a traditional restaurant in Münster. Sensational food, top service, always different daily specials in addition to the normal menu, which has various Münsterland specialties such as Pfeffepotthast or Tötchen. Fantastic seats directly on the Principal Market with a view of Lambertikirche.

Gegeten op een zonnige zaterdag met heel mooi weer. Vooraf hadden we gereserveerd en binnen een mooi plekje gekregen, overigens kun je niet reserveren voor een plekje op het terras. Er loopt genoeg personeel rond om de boel vlot te laten verlopen, wij hadden een ober die ook een beetje Nederlands sprak. Heel leuk. Het eten kan ik kort over zijn, heel erg goed. Zelf koos ik voor de Schweinehaxe of Eisbein. Deze was super mals bereid en niet te zout, niet vaak heb ik deze zo lekker gegeten. De puree en bij geserveerde zuurkool waren heel zacht. Als nagerecht bessen met vanillesaus, daar kan weinig verkeerd aan zijn.

Ate on a sunny Saturday with very nice weather. We had made a reservation in advance and were given a nice spot inside, but you cannot make a reservation for a spot on the terrace. There are enough staff around to keep things running smoothly, we had a waiter who also spoke a little Dutch. Very nice. I can be brief about the food, very good. I personally chose the Schweinehaxe or Eisbein. This was prepared super tenderly and not too salty, not often have I eaten this so tasty. The puree and sauerkraut served with it were very soft. For dessert, berries with vanilla sauce, you can't go wrong with that.

Always well attended. Various beers on tap. Attentive staff. Münster cuisine at normal prices. 1 floor toilets. Well-located beer garden in front of the restaurant directly on the Principalmarkt.

Wir kommen schon ziemlich lange ins Gasthaus Schumacher. So auch jetzt am Samstag. Wir freuen uns auf ein leckeres Essen und tolle Biere. Auch die Mitarbeiter vom Gasthaus Stuhlmacher sind immer freundlich-schnell und man hat sehr zügig Getränke und Essen auf dem Tisch. Verdursten und verhungern muss hier niemand.

Traditional restaurant with very tasty food and reasonable prices. If you are looking for a home-style restaurant and would also like to eat Münsterland specialties, this is the right place for you. If you can't find a seat outside, you shouldn't eat directly at the counter, as this room is quite dark. There are nicer seats in the restaurant. The service is also quick and attentive. The ambience is correspondingly home-style. I would come back

No service outside or only on call

Lived in Germany for 5 years, but never made it up to Muenster. This spot does next to a church in a busy spot for cafes and shopping. Food was good, service was great. Had the Fried Brie and a Javer Pilsner.

The pretzel with butter was particularly tasty, but the service was very hectic, which was due to a lot of activity. All in all a very cozy old restaurant

Unterirdischer, unverschämter Service! unser Besuch im Stuhlmacher endete nach 30 Minuten sehr unbefriedigend: nachdem der Ober uns die Karten auf den Tisch "pfefferte" bestellte ich ein Wasser u bat um einen Probierschluck Wein, mein Mann konnte gar nichts bestellen... dann ignorierte der Ober uns 15 Min. völlig...nach 30 Minuten haben wir am Empfang Bescheid gegeben, dass wir gehen würden - da kam er mit Wasser, 1 Glas Wein u 1 Bier. Mein Mann sagte, das hätten wir so nicht bestellt, da beschimpfte er uns massiv und wir sollten umgehend das Lokal verlassen! ein solches Verhalten haben wir nie zuvor irgenwo auf der Welt erlebt...

Quaint, rustic restaurant. The food is good and there are delicious beers. However, the waiter responsible for us was unfriendly and listless. Overall, I rate the restaurant as mediocre.

We were there an hour before reservation and received a very friendly welcome! Reservations only for inside, which is understandable, we kindly asked if there was the possibility of switching outside (because the weather was bomb)! Everything was done to fulfill our wish! Orders came very quickly despite it being very busy! Food was super tasty, the portions could have been a little bigger because it was so delicious! All in all a very nice day, I would love to come back! All good until next time!

My wife, our son and our daughter-in-law were at Stuhlmacher, one of our favorite restaurants in Münster, on June 29th, 2024. It was another wonderful evening. The food, as always, was very, very tasty. We had table 4 and were able to watch football after dinner, Germany versus Denmark. Our service person was Hendrik D. Waiter No.9. With his professional, attentive, but above all his friendly and humorous manner, he contributed significantly to this wonderful birthday evening for my wife. Thank you again, also to everyone else, it was just beautiful. We are already looking forward to our next visit with you.

Es ist eine eigenartige Kombination aus „Kitsch“ (Zinnteller auf dem Regal, Kleiderhaken in Jagdzimmer in Form von Jagdhörnern), „Kunst“ („ 10 x 4 Meter großes Wandgemälde des Lambertusspiels vor der münsterischen Lambertikirche“), Restaurant (mit fünf individuell gestaltete Gasträumen und einer großen Terrasse) oder einfach nur „urige Kneipe“ (der große Schankraum spricht für sich). „Das Stuhlmacher kann auf eine traditionsreiche Geschichte, die im Jahre 1890, mit dem Gastronomen Louis Stuhlmacher, begann, zurückblicken. Seit dieser Zeit befindet sich das Stuhlmacher im Familienbesitz und wird auch heute noch von Familie Feldhaus, mittlerweile in der 4. Generation, geführt.“ - so steht es im Historienteil der Speisekarte, welche solide, aber sehr gute Hausmannskost bietet (Westfälisches Krüstchen für 21,90 Euro oder Westfälisches Zwiebelfleisch für 24,90 Euro). Nicht nur bei Touristen sehr beliebt, daher sicherheitshalber Tisch reservieren.

I have mixed feelings. The food was very tasty. I was welcomed and treated in a friendly manner. However, I heard the interaction with other guests, which I didn't particularly like in terms of friendliness, and there was a lot of complaining about the evening. Decent prices, but certainly due to the location.

If there was a 6* for the service I would give it. We were there this afternoon with two people. Although it was packed, we were greeted with warm friendliness and served. The ambience is typically bourgeois Westphalian. The food was really good. Typically Westphalian with a twist. The selection of drinks is so extensive, if you were to just drink your way through the beer menu, your eyes would be wide open... :-)... We'd love to come back. Thank you.

We stopped by spontaneously, didn't eat, just had a nightcap. Cozy atmosphere. Very welcoming.

We had lunch at the Stuhlmacher restaurant and overall we enjoyed it. The selection of beers is very good and the Pilsener Urquell we ordered was very good. The food was also good - only the fried potatoes were fried too dark. If we asked the service, we could have received a new portion. We sat outside, where you usually share tables with several other guests when the weather is good. That's common here, so it's okay. After the second beer, no one is bothered by the fact that the buses drive directly past the terrace via the Prinzipalmarkt. We'll be back.

During a stay at the Atlantic Hotel in Munster we discovered this truly extraordinary place. During the day it has a wonderful traditional Pub atmosphere, and offers excellent food served by very friendly, smiling Staff. We ended up visiting every afternoon to have a drink and eat their marvellous Apfel Strudel. In the evening, upstairs there is a Restaurant that I would categorise as 'Fine Dining'. The food was truly excellent, as was the service, in a wonderful homely atmosphere. But, book a table, as it is popular! I think that we will return to Munster one day, just to spend afternoons in this quaint establishment; and Dine in the evenings, once again.

It’s a fantastic looking restaurant but on the night I visited the staff were not really interested dealing with non German speakers unfortunately.

The service, the food, they are good traditions. The service staff was extremely polite and great. (The only thing is that the dough is too coarse for me and the knuckles are not available from midday.)

It is our absolute favorite restaurant and pub in Münster. We visit it regularly with colleagues for a quick drink or on special occasions. The quality of service and food is always at a high level.

Leider ist es bei uns schief gelaufen. Der Laden war voll. Was absolut keine Ausrede sein soll. Wir haben ein Guiness Bier bestellt, der uns in schlimmste Kondition zum Tisch gebracht wurde. Meine Schwiegermutter ist mit dem Bier zur Theke gelaufen, und hat den Barkeeper gefragt, ob er der Guiness bitte austauschen kann, und richtig einschenken kann. (Guiness Trinker werden mich verstehen) Ihr wurde geantwortet, dass hier das beste Lokal im Münster für Guiness sei, und es wird hier nicht neu gemacht. Danke für nichts. Sie durfte mit gleichem Glass zurück zum Tisch. Das Essen kam nicht gleichzeitig, und meine Schwiegermutter durfte uns beim Essen angucken. Endlich kam ihr Gericht, wenn wir mit unseren Speisen fertig waren. Kein guter Eindruck, außer der nette Keller hatte Mitleid mit uns, konnte aber die Situation nicht retten. Shade!
