Visited on a Monday night as a party of five. The owner couldn't have been more welcoming. The menu is typical German food which is well cooked with the owner putting together a very nice starter.

An absolute highlight in Berlin! The Gasthaus Kater Alex offers a wonderful atmosphere, which is rounded off by the charming and attentive service. The menu is diverse and creative - every dish is freshly prepared and tastes excellent. Clear recommendation for anyone who wants to experience excellent food in a warm and authentic Berlin restaurant. I'll definitely be back! We were there two evenings in a row.

In the meantime there have been two visits to the Kater Alex inn. If it's right, you'll be happy to come back. That's exactly what I did. Very friendly welcome, fast service, super delicious food. I'm already looking forward to the next visit. Then enjoy a “schnapps from home”. If you want to eat a delicious Wiener Schnitzel, you should go to Alex the cat. There is also an XXL version, but only the absolutely starving guest can manage it.

It was my brother's birthday today and he spontaneously picked me up from work and invited me to dinner. I was in the mood for schnitzel so we looked for something nearby. The inn has a very cozy atmosphere. Tool set tables and everything very clean. I decided on Jägerschnitzel with fries and rice. My brother went for a small salad and Čevapćići with rice and chips. A whole salad bowl came, huge in size. We couldn't even do it with two of us. Both of our dishes were super tasty, fresh and also huge portions. I didn't quite finish mine. The staff was so lovely. They noticed that it was my brother's birthday and then the landlady came after dinner with a surprise cake. Chocolate cake with candle, warm waffle sauce and cream. The staff sang a birthday song and many guests sang along. We were totally touched. We were asked very discreetly several times whether everything was OK or whether we had any further wishes. So very nice. It's really rare these days. We were totally impressed. Then we went to the toilet and were amazed at how clean it was. The store was fully booked on Tuesday evening. We had had several drinks. The price was more than justified for so much service. A really nice birthday party. Thanks for that. We'll definitely be back. Finally found a great restsurant again. It's become very difficult these days.

You do not come here for the fancy atmosphere, nor do you come here for fine dining, nor the wide menu so everyone in the family can try something different. However... if you want authentic German cuisine and one of the things that we love and always try different versions of and always HAVE to get whenever we are in Germany for dinner - then you also should try and come here to get a (Wiener) Schnitzel!! Here you get good food, great taste and lastly but not least you get good service from these nice people!

We took our school group of 30 for dinner. Alex was easy to communicate with via email, ensuring that on arrival everything was ready for us. The food was fantastic and the service brilliant. Alex and his staff ensured our group had a great dining experience while in Berlin!!

My father and I ate here, while on a vacation to Berlin, as an early evening meal. The waitress, or maybe the owner, 'Sonni' was absolutely fabulous... even with the language barrier we were able to communicate fairly well. The meals were large, delicious, and prepared in a timely manner. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting deliciously prepared 'comfort' foods. Thank you, for a lovely experience, and for the Schnapps.

An oasis for good food and an absolute bright spot in Berlin! The food tastes incredibly good. No matter whether it's Königsberger Klopse or schnitzel... everything tastes really good, just like grandma used to make! I would like to give more than 5 stars. I and my husband had a wonderful ceremony for our Standesamt day here. The lady prepared the room so nice, better than I expected. Everything was perfect, everyone were happy and comfortable to karaoke. At the end, they said we are welcome to come back and they'll give us a free meal as a tradition of congratulation for a new married couple :)

We had a lovely meal here, choosing the grill platter of different meats for 2 people. This included chicken, steak, schnitzel, pork, plus 2 different types of sausage and a burger. Served with salad plus chips and rice - great value at €36 for the two of us. Service was very friendly, highly recommend :)

Well there really is not much to say BEST FOOD I HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME!!!!!! I love the food, the owner very hospitable and overall a pleasant experience not one food that I have eaten was bad, absolutely delicious.

We had a lovely family meal here. The waiter spoke excellent English and was so helpful with our family member who needed gluten free food. They told us they had a separate fryer for GF food and even have GF beer available. The helpings are huge and we enjoyed a range from the menu including schnitzel, steak and the classic roast pork with dumplings and red cabbage. Wonderful service and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

This is a lovely non-touristy restaurant with the prices a lot cheaper than in Brandenburg Tor. Plus the portions are a lot bigger too! I loved coming here, the service was great - even though the owner couldn’t speak English it made it part of the whole experience. Wonderful restaurant and highly recommended!

In Berlin for the first time, among many Asian restaurants, we ended up in this restaurant to try schnitzel and.. It was perfect! The first thing I want to note is the SIZE of the dishes, it’s crazy! 👀 (in a good way, of course) Unexpectedly for us, the dishes were very large. The taste, service and everything else are of excellent quality, I recommend it to everyone 💪🇩🇪

When we arrived our table for 6 was reserved and waiting. We were welcomed like we just arrived at their home. The menu was authentic German food and was very varied. If you wanted something slightly different off the menu it was done for you. The staff were very accommodating, very friendly,nothing too much trouble. All food was delicious, place was clean comfortable and relaxing, we could have stayed all night. It was a vey enjoyable evening, great value for money food and drink.

We ventured outside the tourist area to find authentic German food. We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and so glad we did! Gasthaus Kater Alex is a cozy place with great friendly staff. They answered all our questions and prepared a few things we wanted to try even though not on the menu. Everything was delicious! We even watched Netherlands vs Austria in the Euro2024 football match after our meal. So fun!! Highly recommended.

I was actually here for a lunch and a dinner. Had the cevapcici (croatian sausages) for lunch, and the schweinhaxe (roast port shoulder) for dinner. My wife got the schwein schnitzel both times. We really enjoyed the food. A glass of Dornfelder red wine is perfect with cevapcici, and a big glass of the house beer washes the schweinhaxe. In case you haven’t tried it, schweinhaxe is roasted until the outside is crispy. Wow, it is delicious, but a lot of food.

This was the highlight as far as food goes during our visit to Berlin. We stopped here for lunch after visiting the Charlottenburg Palace and it lived up to the hype. The lady inside at the time only spoke German (we speak English) but made us feel very welcome and was not rude at all. We ordered the Veal Schnitzel and the Cordon Bleu with pork, cheese, and ham. Both were amazing and the portions are huge. Such a great place and cannot recommend it enough.

Was just in Berlin for two plus weeks. Ate here 6 times because the food was sooo good. Relaxed and comfortable. Priced right for good value. The Kornigberger Klopse was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Loved this place.

We went to this restaurant for dinner on a family vacation with a group of 6. we all wanted an authentic German dinner. The food was incredible. Alex took such great care of us! He gave us suggestions and we ordered an original summer strawberry drink that was amazing! He gave us suggestions of things to do while in Berlin. We all agree we would definitely recommend and go back and eat at this restaurant again!

The food was amazing! We were a party of six who all ordered schnitzel with a different sauce and everyone raved about what they got. Alex was a gracious, engaging host who offered great explanations and recommendations to every question. This was a highlight of our time in Berlin and I highly recommend making the visit here if you are in Berlin!

We ordered the XXL schnitzle and currywurst for 2 and we ended up very full. Homemade and abundant food, with good flavor. Totally recommended. Nothing touristy. XXL price €20.9, sausage €9.90

Firstly if I could give this wonderful restaurant more than 5 stars I definitely would. I got our hotel to book us a table for my husband’s birthday meal. We got a taxi as it was over a mile from our hotel and public transport wasn’t 100% certain to go near this restaurant. There are some reviews here on Tripadvisor saying how rude the owners are, well all I can say is they went above and beyond to be helpful. The menu is also in English and if unsure they try and explain to you, in fact so much so that when I ordered my dessert I just wanted plain pancakes with lemon and sugar, they came back twice just to be sure and when they delivered them they again checked that was definitely what I wanted, they were delicious. When we finished they very kindly rang a taxi for us to take us back to our hotel. Also the amount of people/delivery service people coming in for delivery’s etc.

Such a fabulous traditional meal served with care and friendliness. I am gluten free, and had thought I’d be having yet another side salad for dinner, and yet they went out of their way to let me know they offered a gf Weiner schnitzel made with gf flour in its own fryer 💕. Needless to say, I finished my plate! Delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant for both great food and service!

this was by far the best meal we have had on this trip. vegetarian schnitzel, gluten free schnitzel, weiner schnitzel, the sausage sampler platter (that’s not on the menu but ask…..). delicious food and being treated like family. what could be better?

We ate at Kater Alex during our vacation in Berlin. We chose Berliner Currywurst and Wiener Schnitzel. Both were exceptionally delicious. In particular, the schnitzel, thin and with a crispy breading, is a real treat. The service was also great: very friendly and accommodating and we didn't have to wait long. Overall, highly recommended.

Were here to strengthen. Were greeted very friendly and got a nice seat even without pre-ordering. We received our cyclist very quickly and then our food. The garnish for dinner is still developing. It was too poor for my taste, which made the dish seem a bit sober. The food was still very tasty, but the steak was not medium rare. For us it was just at the limit. But that's purely a matter of taste. It was a very friendly team, which is what makes it.

Alex the cat has the warmth of the Balkans. Traditional dishes are served in large portions and everything the guest wants is cooked and the kitchen provides - as if you were being pampered by your mother. The gluten-free offering is particularly worth mentioning. Great care is taken to avoid cross-contamination and the hosts know exactly what they are doing. The gluten-free dishes are therefore ideal for guests with celiac disease who would also like to enjoy the hearty tavern cuisine. Very friendly people there. By the way, it's also very good if you have children with you - the innkeepers like children and in the family atmosphere you can laugh and exercise.

End our Berlin vacation today at the Gasthaus Kater Alex. The food was plentiful and really very good. Had a Viennese style schnitzel, a Jägerschnitzel and a roast pork. We were more than full. The service is really friendly and nice. All in all, a perfect last evening.

The service is very good & super friendly, HECK, it's so good, the blonde Waitress offered me extra fries with my schnitzel on both occasions which I accepted, fries are super good here 😁👍. It's a very clean place. Food is so tasty. Try the desserts, they are made fresh on the premises. I highly recommend this place.

We went here to celebrate our daughter's 21st back in November 2023. They had made a special table for us and made us feel very welcome. We had schnitzel and cheesecake for pudding, very nice beer. Lovely atmosphere and v good food. Would recommend!

Very tasty cuisine. I felt like I was at my mother's for dinner. The restaurant is served personally by the chef who cares about the guests and their enjoyment of their stay in the restaurant. It's tasty, nice and at a decent price. Anyone who would like to learn the basics of the Serbian language has an opportunity to do so. A very pleasant place, nice atmosphere and hospitality

Homestyled, hearty food in an unassuming location with the friendliest family running the restaurant. Absolutely love how down to earth it is here - not one of those touristy, fancy brewery in mitte, but just good food in large portions cooked how mothers and grandmothers would.

Fantastic food and really kind, friendly service. It was mine and my partners first time eating out in Berlin and we liked the look of this place and it didn't disappoint. We came quite late in service but we were met with a smile and excellent service and told it was no problem. We got schnitzels and they were cooked to perfection. Brilliant size and amount of food for the price too. Absolutely delicious :) The waitress didn't seem to speak much English, we didn't speak much German either, but we all had a laugh about it and were able to communicate and it was just a really friendly relaxed vibe. Also their card machine had stopped working and I didn't have enough cash on me to pay but they were really easy about it, let me leave and told me where a cash point was to get some out while my partner stayed, no fuss and just really nice. Couldn't recommend more, we will be back!

Das Schnitzel ist sehr lecker. Das Lokal ist in die Jahre gekommen kriegt daher aber auch seinen Flair. Die Bedienung ist zwar sehr nett und wirklich freundlich aber verfaengt sich in langen Gespraechen mit der Stammkundschaft und vergisst dann manchmal dass bedient werden muss. Bis zu einem gewissen Maß natürlich in Ordnung aber schon ein paar mal negativ aufgefallen.
