The photos of the Schäufele look very good. Unfortunately it was completely dried out on the plate, both on the rind and on the meat side :((( The spinach dumplings on tomato sauce with a nut and herb topping were good. The inn has a nice atmosphere, but you can also drink beer elsewhere. We won't be coming back for dinner.

Food wasn't my taste. Meat was tender and dumplings were ok, little sauce and I immediately received more sauce for my dish upon request. Staff was on point. Chairs weren't the newest and the space was a bit tight. Price-performance ratio doesn't fit. Very expensive, maybe because of the city center. I've eaten much better for the money we spent and you can only stay for 2 hours. This trend is unfortunately common...very sad! I won't be using this place anymore, sorry!

I was in the golden cross during an excursion. A clear menu where you don't know what to choose. I then decided on the sauerbraten. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to its name and could have been a little more acidic. The meat was still delicious. The Coburg dumplings as a side dish were absolutely delicious. You have to eat them. The red cabbage was also super tasty. I would come back there at any time.

The Golden Cross is a nice restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly service that makes your stay pleasant. The food was really good and of solid quality - the taste of the dishes was excellent and evidence of thoughtful preparation. However, I have to point out that the prices bear no relation to what you ultimately get for it. I understand that prices have increased in recent years and that my perception may be subjective. However, I find the prices to be a bit too high compared to the performance offered. Overall, the Golden Cross offers a pleasant experience and very good food, but I hope they find a way to optimize the value for money here.

It's not easy to find a restaurant in Coburg that's open on Monday. But here we were really thrilled. Attentive, friendly service, excellent food and a great ambience are sure to please, all at really moderate prices! Particularly noteworthy: At a time when others entice you with XXL portions or all-you-can-eat offers, you can order most dishes here as small (!) portions for a discount. Very pleasant if you don't fall into a soup coma after lunch but still have the energy for one of the many excursion destinations in and around Coburg.

Iconic restaurant in the center of Coburg old town. The cuisine is excellent but not very original. The wine list is very well stocked. Prices are affordable. The service is dynamic and efficient. A must for anyone spending a night in Cobourg.

Dem Fass den Boden ausgeschlagen hat die halbe Ente, alt, aufgewärmt, trocken keine Sosse, geschmacksneutral. Doie mit Abstand schlechteste Ente die ich jemals gegessen habe. Were invited to a birthday dinner. These rooms are always beautiful. Starter: juniper ham on mixed herb salad and very good berry dressing. Main course: My 1/2 duck was perfect and tender as butter and with delicious red cabbage, which I easily got a second helping of. The real hit, however, was the very nice young lady who looked after us. But the young man who helped deliver the food also really enjoyed his work. Thanks for this great service. The other guests were once again very happy here at the “Kreuz”. October 27, 2023: 50th birthday party in the hall with around 35 guests. The hosts have selected a varied buffet for us guests. Everything was top notch, from the starter soup to the various desserts. Staff again very friendly. The Golden Cross is one of the top addresses for eating out in Coburg and the surrounding area.

We were in Coburg for an evening and the restaurant was recommended to us. The waiters were very nice, the food was fantastic. We got a table outside even without a reservation and had a great view.

A light beer for €4.50 is an outrage. Food top. Food came quickly. Prices for good quality food are high, but just about right. Service okay. There is no relationship between the price and performance of beer.

We were regular guests for years and drove here from Bamberg specifically to eat. We always appreciated the crispy fried duck with its tasty, tender meat as well as the cozy and homely atmosphere of the restaurant. Unfortunately, our last visit was disastrous. After the duck was out this time, which we certainly understand, we chose the asparagus salad with strawberries, a Viennese schnitzel with fried potatoes and a side salad, and a leg of goose with red cabbage and Coburg dumplings. The dressing of the asparagus salad lacked any kick, the unmarinated - carelessly arranged - bed of green lettuce seemed more intended for a rabbit than a human. We had only just started eating the starters when the main courses were served - with a short word of apology that wasn't meant seriously. We constantly had the suspicion that we wanted to process as many guests as possible in a short time. The fried potatoes were dripping with fat and weren't the least bit crispy. The schnitzel was reminiscent of a convenience product and the large leaves on the side salad as well as the two persimmon tomatoes served whole suggested that the preparation was hectic. Only the mustard dressing on the side salad tasted delicious. The goose leg was overcooked and dry. If cooking continues at this level, we predict that this restaurant's heyday will soon come to an end. The worst thing was that the innkeeper, Mr. Zimmer, was not at all interested in our criticism, he just laughed at us and said goodbye with a disrespectful remark. Apparently Mr. Zimmer has enough guests anyway. At least we will stop visiting and prefer our other favorite restaurants in the future.

Disrespectful tourist trap. Avoid. I have dined countless times in Germany, and this is the first bad restaurant I have visited. Service was somewhere between casual and indifferent and the food very disappointing. I had wild boar which was poorly prepared and presented. The nadir was the dessert. Having seen a fellow diner’s sorbet variation with fresh fruit I ordered the same. The sorbets were a half-melted slush and the accompanying fruit was a sad sliver of water melon and a couple of strands of redcurrant swimming in the slush. My digestif which should have been sparkling was anything but. I was prepared to write the experience off and move on. However, at breakfast in my hotel the next morning a fellow guest, a German gentleman, engaged me in conversation as he had recognised me from the restaurant the previous evening. He agreed that the food was poor and shared my observation that there seemed to be a two-tier service for the diners, with locals receiving a superior level of service. One to avoid.

An excellent and special restaurant! We were here for a family celebration and were treated like a prince. The table was nicely set, the service was courteous and extremely friendly. The quality of the food matches the high standards: everything is fresh and carefully prepared. We had an excellent evening. We would like to thank the service team (especially our waitress Miriam) and in the kitchen!

What does a good restaurant need?! A good service. Everything stands or falls for me with this. This is 120% fulfilled here. Had a really nice evening today. We had ordered a table with romantic decorations. We got that too. For dinner there was a Schäufele for my husband (that was perfect) and vegan spinach dumplings for me. These were also excellent and had great nutritional values. So really well thought out. There will also be at least 4 vegan dishes there in the future. Salads, weekly specials and curry and dumplings. We had the Mohr in the Shirt dessert with sorbet instead of vanilla sauce because we can't tolerate milk. And no milk protein. Nevertheless, we were helped in a good mood. A great day and on We'll be back again on Thursday. Also in I would like to come back from Berlin with my relatives in September. So, thank you very much for the wonderful evening Went there a second time and this time I had a bit of kit. In the heat, I had lemon butter foam pasta with vegetables and spinach balls. So that too is absolutely possible. I love this place. Can really only recommend it. Thanks to the filter, it's a safe place to go out even in winter.

Das vegetarische Angebot ist klein - und die "Spinatknödel auf Tomatenragout mit gerösteten Nüssen" sind ein Ärgernis. Dass man bei einem stolzen Preis von 19 € zwei Mini-Knödel (ohne Salatbeilage) bekommt, wäre gar nicht das Hauptproblem gewesen. Aber: Die Qualität. Die Knödel schmeckten nicht mal direkt schlecht, sondern einfach nach nichts. Desgleichen die vollmundig als "Tomatenragout" bezeichnete Beigabe: als hätte man eine Konservendose "stückige Tomaten" erhitzt, nur leider das Zubereiten und Würzen versäumt. Ein paar Nüsse drauf, fertig. All dies wäre schon für die Hälfte des Preises eine Zumutung gewesen.

von Bamberg extra hierher zum Essen. Wir schätzten stets die kross gebratene Ente mit ihrem schmackhaften zarten Fleisch sowie das gemütliche und heimelige Ambiente des Restaurants. Unser letzter Besuch verlief leider allerdings desaströs. Nachdem die Ente dieses Mal aus war, wofür wir durchaus Verständnis haben, fiel unsere Wahl auf den Spargelsalat mit Erdbeeren, ein Wiener Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln und Beilagensalat sowie eine Gänsekeule mit Blaukraut und Coburger Klößen. Dem Dressing des Spargelsalates fehlte jeglicher Pfiff, das unmarinierte - lieblos arrangierte - grüne Salatbett schien wohl eher für einen Hasen gedacht als für einen Menschen. Wir hatten die Vorspeisen gerade erst zu essen begonnen als auch schon die Hauptgerichte - mit einem nicht ernst gemeinten kurzen Wort der Entschuldigung - serviert wurden. Uns beschlich ständig der Verdacht, dass möglichst viele Gäste in kurzer Zeit abgefertigt werden sollten. Die Bratkartoffeln trieften vor Fett und waren kein bisschen kross. Das Schnitzel erinnerte an ein Convenienceprodukt und die großen Blätter auf dem Beilagensalat sowie die beiden im Ganzen servierten Datteltomaten ließen auf Hektik bei der Zubereitung schließen. Lediglich das Senfdressing auf dem Beilagensalat schmeckte lecker. Die Gänsekeule war übergart und trocken. Wenn auf diesem Niveau weiter gekocht wird, prophezeien wir, dass die Hochzeiten dieses Restaurants bald zu Ende gehen werden. Das Schlimmste war, dass den Wirt Herrn Zimmer unsere Kritik überhaupt nicht interessierte, er uns nur belächelte und uns mit einer despektierlichen Bemerkung verabschiedete. Anscheinend hat Herr Zimmer sowieso genügend Gäste. Wir zumindest werden unsere Besuche einstellen und künftig unsere anderen Lieblingsrestaurants bevorzugen.

It's nice to sit outside if the weather is right. The beer tastes good. The food was also tasty, although a bit high in price. The waiter was courteous and friendly. You were served promptly.

Good food and the Kreuztrunk is worth recommending. The service was great this time too, despite the restaurant being full. Everyone was super friendly. Meanwhile Schäufele 23.50 euros is not worth it. Other inns can do that better now... Given the prices, it's questionable whether we'll come back in the near future. One star gone...

As a Thuringian, we ate and enjoyed fantastic food in Coburg. Gasthaus Goldenes Kreuz is absolutely recommended. The Tafelspitz with dumplings was a delight. Special requests are also carried out. The service is very attentive and kind. Any time!!!

Six of us had dinner there the night before last. The food was at canteen level, but the prices were high. Service and ambience was very good. Cardboard boxes left in front of the house testified to the use of ready-made products. For example, my cheese spaetzle for 18 euros with "melted onions" was gratinated with dry, ready-made onions. Never eat there again - is our unanimous opinion.

We were there as a group of 15 people and everything worked out super quickly! The food was very tasty (zander fillet) and the dessert was very tasty! The staff is very friendly 👍 You can't go wrong here, absolute recommendation!

Portions are tiny but tasty. Price-performance ratio is rather poor because it is very expensive. The service was very accommodating, but the 11 of us felt really rushed because everyone's plate was literally torn away while they were chewing the last bite. A pity. Could be a good economy.

Located in a corner of the picturesque Coburg market square, the Gasthaus Goldenes Kreuz offers fine regional cuisine with sometimes clearly recognizable Mediterranean influences. Warm bratwurst salad, Schäufele, beef cheeks, duck but also risotto and Wiener schnitzel are enjoyed comfortably at long tables in one of the oldest local (guest) houses, accompanied by a rich selection of beer and wine, which is always quickly replaced by the attentive service upon request - and if there is still room for dessert afterwards: the poppy seed creme brulee rounds off the enjoyment perfectly.

The food (pasta dumplings with scallops and shrimp) was good, although I would have expected more at this price level. Unfortunately the espresso was no longer hot.

Quaint restaurant in the historic center of Coburg near the market square. We were there for lunch on a Friday and there was enough space even without a reservation. Service was unobtrusive and the atmosphere was rather rustic but quite nice. A 0.5l beer (cross drink) cost €4.50 and the main courses of salad with mushrooms (€18) and beef roulade (€22) tasted perfect but were, in my opinion, a bit overpriced. All in all, a clear recommendation!

Today we went to the candlelight dinner at the golden Kreuz Coburg. The atmosphere there is very nice. We were offered a 3-course menu with delicious soup, very good dessert, and a desert variety on a 3-story floor, which I have never had before in this presentation, variety and great taste. I would especially like to mention the super nice service, who provided us with drinks and delicious food. A big compliment to the kitchen. The food served tasted excellent and was beautifully presented.

Wir haben heute um17.30 Uhr mit 6 Personen gegessen. Der Service war sehr nett und schnell. Das Essen war aber für die gehobenen Preise einfach nicht gut. Der Zander war trocken und geschmacklos, wir hatten zweimal die Rouladen die ebenfalls trocken waren und einmal die Ente, die leider auch viel zu lange vorgegart war. Der Kaiserschmarrn war leider auch teilweise regelrecht hart. Die vegetarischen Hauptspeise (Spinatknödel) war so wenig für den Preis von ca 18€ das nicht einmal ein Mädchen satt geworden ist, zudem schmeckten die Spinatknödel eher nach Brot in Tomatensoße. Wir hatten auch gesagt das alles irgendwie enttäuschend war, haben dann unsere 160€ gezahlt und uns anderweitig noch mit Abendessen versorgt. Schade...

Ich war sehr enttäuscht. Wir waren mit 6 Personen im Restaurant und haben 3 traditionelle Gerichte bestellt und einmal Fisch sowie einmal Spinat Knödel.Die Portion Spinatknödel war so wenig das meine Tochter danach noch sehr viel Hunger hatte.Die anderen Portionen waren auch gerade an der Grenze. Das Fleisch war ehrlich für diese Preisklasse der Menüs nicht angemessen. Trocken.....Der Fisch leider war am schlimmsten. Die Beilagen und Soßen waren gut.Wir haben höflichst Kritik geäußert im Restaurant. Leider gab's weder einen Kaffe aufs Haus.....oder ähnliches.Keine Entschuldigung nichts....

Ich bedanke mich für den tollen Service und das hervorragende Essen. Cool fand ich, dass man gesehen hat, daß das ganze Team an einem Strang zieht. Die Köche haben das Essen mit hinaus getragen und waren total kommunikativ. Obwohl eine große Hochzeitsfeier zur gleichen Zeit an kam, war keine Spur von Hektik oder Unruhe. Das Preisleistungsverhältnis ist vollkommen in Ordnung. Das Essen war genau, wie ich es erwartet habe, gehobene fränkische Küche. Es war eine tolle Zeit und ich bedanke mich für diesen außergewöhnlichen Service. Auch das Weihnachtsessen war echt lecker 😋.

Wir waren zu Gast in Coburg und wir reservierten vorab einen Tisch, was dringend empfohlen wird, wenn man am Wochenende Essengehen mag. Unser Tisch wurde pünktlich neu eingedeckt. Die bestellten Getränke kamen zügig. Ich aß eine Vorspeise, wobei seitens der Bedienung nicht gefragt wurde, ob das Essen für das Kind zeitgleich gebracht werden soll. So warteten wir sehr lange auf unser Essen. Dieses war sehr gut, die Portionen sind ausreichend. Leider war das Gasthaus sehr voll, was in einem lauten Geräuschpegel endete.

Ich war mit Mensch Inklusive Lebenshilfe Schweinfurt heute dort war sehr schönes Ambiente das Essen Bauernende war sehr Lecker Service Freundlich das Lokal ist nur zu empfehlen. Deshalb 5 von 5 Sternen 🫶

Spontane Einkehr am Samstag Mittag. Wir haben ohne Reservierung einen Platz bekommen und wurden sehr freundlich bedient. Gegessen haben wir das Bratwurst-Gedöns, einmal Wildragout sowie einmal die Roulade mit Coburger Klößen. Insgesamt solide gute Performace ;-)

Bei Anruf, wurden wir abgewiesen. 2 Personen essen? Nein, heute nicht. Als wir dann direkt vor Ort waren, war es kein Problem?! Essen, Preis- Leistung enttäuschend Halbes Schäuferl (kaum gewürzt) liegt bei 22,50€ inkl kleines Häufchen Sauerkraut…. und zwei wirklich extrem flachen und zu Tode gekochten „Rutscher“?! Ernsthaft?! Nein, das geht besser! (Woanders) Das Haus an sich, dieses alterwürdige Gebäude ist wirklich toll, aber warum man hier solche Preise aufruft, nicht nachvollziehbar. Wir kommen nicht wieder

Ansprechendes Restaurant, freundliches Personal, gutes Essen.

Mit viel Liebe wir dieses Gasthaus geführt. Wir hatten trotz vollem Haus einen sehr ruhigen Tisch für uns. Hatte dort einen schönen Geburtstag. Essen war sehr lecker. Das Sorbet müßt ihr probieren...sooo mmmhhh! Weiter so!

Das Essen und der Service waren ausgezeichnet. Zumal man in der Gastronomie selten noch einen so aufmerksamen und guten Service findet wie dort.

Wir haben ohne Reservierung noch einen Tisch im überdachten Hinterhof bekommen. Was erstmal komisch klingt ist aber ein Ort mit einem sehr schönen Ambiente. Der Service war topp, die Bedienung zuvorkommend und freundlich und das Essen erstklassig zu einem angemessenen Preis.

Qualität top, Preise in Relation zur Portion aber viel zu hoch! Bewertung bezieht sich nur auf Qualität! Für mehrere Besuche zu kostspielig, leider!

Das Personal ist überaus freundlich und zuvorkommend. Anfangs war ich bzgl. der "Cobuger Klöße" etwas skeptisch, wurde aber eines besseren belehrt. Auch habe ich selten ein so zartes Schäuferle gegessen wie dort. Einfach grandios. Wir waren in jeglicher Hinsicht sehr zufrieden und würden definitiv wieder kommen. Vielen Dank!

Zum zweiten Mal nach zwei Jahren in Coburg und zum zweiten Mal hier. Nicht nur das Ambiente und das zuvorkommende und freundliche Personal und der Chefkoch laden zum erneuten Besuch ein, vorallem die leckere Küche und die Liebe zur optischen Anrichtung der Speisen. Deftige, Schmackhafte Bayrische Küche die auch Vegetarier einlädt. Wichtig ist zu wissen, Tischreservierung, vorallem am Abend, ist "ein muss" um einen Platz zu ergattern. Bitte weiter so!
