Ganymed Brasserie in Berlin

We spontaneously stopped by for breakfast and enjoyed it immensely. A sunny day, a seat by the window, relaxing jazz music, and delicious food… from the staff to the food, it was a fantastic experience.

We had booked the candlelight dinner for €139 for the beginning of January. Unfortunately, I became seriously ill three days beforehand. I was aware when booking that there were no cancellation options. But since I had registered two days in advance, I couldn't imagine that costs or reservation cancellations had already arisen. I asked for feedback via email as to whether a credit would be possible for another date. Unfortunately, even after repeated requests, I received no response whatsoever. Addition: Ganymed contacted us after more than two weeks and gave us a voucher. We'll see in March whether that works. Addendum: We had a wonderful four-course menu at the beginning of March. The food was very good and the wine pairing was also appropriate. The service was very friendly and very, very quick. We would even have to slow down the gears a bit ;-) The ambience could still be improved a bit, the tables are a bit crowded even though there was very little going on for a Sunday evening.

A place that is recommended. We had the champagne breakfast which was simply excellent, you shouldn't be put off by the price. Lots of high-quality products where the price-performance ratio is definitely right. The service is great and the atmosphere is really nice. As a small point of criticism, I just have to point out that I had sent notice in advance that it was a birthday breakfast for my husband, perhaps a candle on the table. I had also said in advance that it would be the champagne breakfast, which requires a little more space, so I would have expected a larger table... but that's just complaining at the highest level. The food was delicious, we really liked it and my husband, and that's the most important thing for me, was completely thrilled.

We came here spontaneously on Women’s Day after our original plans unfortunately fell through and had little hope of getting a table on short notice, especially with such beautiful, sunny weather. The fact that we were lucky enough to get a spot in the sun and enjoy such a delicious breakfast was beyond our expectations. We ordered the avocado tartine and Eggs Benedict. Our waiter, whose name was Vali, was pleasantly discreet, polite, and attentive, despite the restaurant being quite busy. The breakfast was surprisingly delicious, especially my frothy Hollandaise sauce.

The welcome and escort to our table was promising, very pleasant! However, the service was slow, even though there were a lot of staff in the restaurant. The main courses (rack of lamb and octopus) are really recommended!! However, the starter was totally wrong!! The lobster soup and the fish soup looked very unappetizing (both equally dark) and tasted the same, two people tried them. It's also a shame that the ingredients are unfriendly. It's not about the price (17.50 euros lobster soup) but the quality!!!.

Very nice restaurant directly on the Spree. I sat on the terrace which was very nice. I had a steak which was delicious. A bit pricey. Unfortunately the service was poor but it is what I have come to expect in Berlin.

Beyond disgrace, unnecessary expensive and incompetent

French flair in the middle of Berlin. An institution that is second to none. Excellent cuisine and excellent wines!! Super friendly service!! Always worth a visit!!

We were there in a group to celebrate our Christmas party. Unfortunately, the service was so condescending and arrogant that we were forced to leave without ordering. Among other things, our orders were commented on condescendingly and questions were even brushed off (“if you can't read the menu, that's not my problem”): Never again.

The waiter completely ignored us and then rolled his eyes and laughed contemptuously when we tried to order?! When he asked if we couldn't read the menu properly because we had asked something about the dishes, we finally actually got up and left. That was really an absolute disgrace - spend your money elsewhere, it's not worth it.

We were there with the company for the Christmas party. The ambience was very nice, but the food (goose leg and the usual) was okay, but not as expected, very good. Maybe we should stick to the standard. They really do great steaks there.

When it's not busy, one of the best restaurants in Berlin.

One of the best French people in Berlin. Friendly, courteous, highly professional and therefore relaxed. The ambience of the literary evening meal is unique and the furnishings are dignified. The dishes are cleverly prepared and justify the level. Unfortunately, the tarte flambées cool down quickly, but the desserts make up for it. Cheers!

The food was just okay. The prices were high, and I didn’t enjoy my meal—especially since the chicken had a weird smell.

The service was alright, food was cold and absolutely awful. I would not recommend this place. I can also confirm the waiter asks for tips which I think is ridiculous when that’s the sort of food you serve people at rather high prices for a breakfast. Many nice places to eat in Berlin, save yourself the disappointment and eat somewhere else.

We had a great evening as a group of six. The reservation went really well. The staff was friendly, attentive and quick. The location, ambience and selection on the menu were great, making the choice difficult. The food tasted like a dream. However, it should have been warmer.

If there was the possibility to leave zero stars I would do it! We went there for lunch and ordered quiche and Flammkuchen. If you order only a quiche, you will probably be hungry. The classic Flammkuchen was great. What we didn’t like at all was the service. The waiter was intrusive and annoying, constantly telling “jokes”. It was clear he was trying to win extra tip with that. I just wanted to have lunch in peace with my family. We spent almost 100€ there and the waiter complained about the tip. He threw the extra bill I gave on the table saying “leave it, maybe next time”. That was so rude. I assure you there won’t be a next time. Terrible way to treat your clients. Do not recommend because of the service and restaurant is overpriced.

Unfortunately, the waiter was not only very unfriendly, but also disrespectful towards our group. He barely looked at us and snorted angrily and clicked his tongue when we ordered. In addition, we were apparently the only table that wasn't served for a long time. What a shame!

The three of us were there yesterday for our Christmas dinner. The menu and the wines and drinks were very tasty, but the service was below average, or there was simply none. We had to get up twice and order more drinks because no one came to the table (except to serve the courses). In addition, the fourth place setting at the table (we had only reserved for three) was not cleared until the end. When we paid, we still gave a tip of around 8%. We politely pointed out to the cashier that we would have liked more careful service, to which he responded with a derogatory gesture. We were shocked and as delicious as the food was, we definitely won't be coming back.

The interior of the Ganymed Brasserie looks like a classic French brasserie. Red and white checkered tablecloths, large paintings on the wall, waiters in black and white. The food is good and expensive. If you order Eggs Bendict Classic for €18.50, you only get one (!) poached egg. Due to the waiter's insufficient knowledge of German, I was unable to make this contradiction understandable to him. On Ganymed's website, the menu text is in light blue font on a white background and is therefore difficult to read.

We were there with the company as a Christmas party. The taste was tasty but somehow nothing special... I expected a little more. The service was great, the glasses were always filled and there was even a story about the restaurant. That was exciting and a great change. Overall a nice evening, but you just have to like the city center to love it.

An old school restaurant, maybe a little expensive for its old fashion atmosphère. Anyway, Antonello, our waiter, was very kind and willingly helpful.

I will never return to this place. Bottle of still water @ €9.50 is extortion and felt ripped off upon leaving. Staff were warm upon arrival and cold by the time we left because we questioned the price of the water. Staff member commented that we are in central Berlin , however this does not excuse being ripped off.

A wonderful evening with a view of the Spree. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was good and the food was good. The wine accompaniment was only explained very briefly and succinctly, so unfortunately we learned very little about it. The food was tasty and good. For the starter, a soup with less spillage on the edges would have been desirable. But the taste is very good. It was a beautiful evening and a very nicely located location.

I ate there today. The place is very well located, the waiters are very friendly, and the flavor of the Bio omelette with chorizo was spectacular. The only thing I didn’t like was that I ordered a small bottle of water, a cappuccino (€3.80), and the omelette (€12.50), and they charged me €25.52. I don’t think the bottle could have cost €7???

Unfortunately there were so many crumbs and small things on the floor. We would refrain from making comments that were supposed to be funny. Too bad.

The Coq au vin is a poem! Great, courteous service. In France the menu would have been a bit out of date, but perfect as an address for traditional French cuisine abroad! We felt very comfortable!

We had to wait almost one hour before we could order anything to eat, while it was very quiet. The waiter neglected us different times. Very disappointing for such a nice location.

The food is quite ordinary, just rather expensive. A rather limited menu. No English listings. A wonderful way to ask for a tip and skip the tip amount chosen by the customer.

The Ganymede restaurant is a real pearl for lovers of French cuisine. The selection of fresh seafood was particularly impressive and immediately impressed us. From oysters to sophisticated seafood dishes, every dish was of the highest quality and perfectly prepared. A special thank you goes to our waiter Kosta, who not only served us professionally, but also with charming warmth. He had an excellent sense of what we wanted and recommended a dessert that rounded off the evening perfectly - a real highlight! We can't understand the few bad reviews we read beforehand. Our evening at Ganymede was a delight from start to finish and we are already looking forward to our next visit!

French classics such as tartare (hand-cut and prepared at the table), oysters, steak frites (the best fries!) and crepes Suzette - in a great ambience and with perfect service. Thank you for the wonderful evening!

We've been going to Ganymede for over 20 years but now it's over. It always used to have a welcoming welcoming atmosphere and you would be greeted by friendly professional staff. There's been an icy, cold atmosphere lately and people are literally checking you out whether you're allowed in or not. Like you want to go to a nightclub. Mind you, we are dressed unobtrusively normally and appropriately for an upscale restaurant. This happened to us again today (the third time), so we turned around and left the restaurant. It's a shame, it was a nice place to go for a long time, especially since we live around the corner.

Breakfast for four. Friendly waiter who tried to speak Spanish, which is appreciated. Very good atmosphere and everything we asked for was very good. We definitely have dinner here for our next visits.

I had a really good veal fillet, but this is no longer the French brasserie it used to be, but more of an upscale Italian restaurant. Many small details are missing. Unfortunately, it's no longer my go-to place when I'm longing for the French way of life.

We only tasted the crepes but the menu looked appetizing. We were well received. The terrace is heated, which is a plus. To do again to taste beef bourguignon and other French specialties.

If no waiter is available, you can also place your order using a QR code. Unfortunately for you, the app does what it wants. Just add a €10 tip and an additional drink. But if you want to cancel it, you can't because it's a third-party system. And that's where things get really complicated. For me the first and last time in this brasserie.

Visited for lunch, mid afternoon on a Monday. The weather was fine so most people were sitting outside by the river. Great location. A little pricey, though the food looked good and was indeed good when we got it. However, there was only was person serving and he was extremely busy. The food service was very slow, not because of the waiter particularly as he was working like a Trojan, so I assume it was the kitchen. We waited 1 hour to get our food after being seated and essentially had to miss out on a second course because we couldn’t risk another hour and there were quite a few people waiting. We did tip the waiter, despite the very slow service, but used cash in hand and didn’t want the tip to get anywhere near the restaurant owner or whoever was managing restaurant inside. Would have rated higher if the service wasn’t so slow.

I had the Flammkuchen, which is like flatbread or pizza, with sparse toppings so the crust stays crisp. It was good and large enough to share. My husband had the Raviola with basil which was delicious. Servers were VERY busy so we had to wait. We had a lovely outdoor table along the river and the restaurant had blankets available as the evening was chilly.

Fantastic French cuisine in the middle of Berlin. Very stylish and well-kept, friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great ambience with wonderfully preserved stucco. Simply recommended.

Nice genuine French restaurant close to the Spree with a lot of tables outside. Easy way to enjoy the river, people and city life. Food is fast and presented well. Service is a bit slow but food is served fast. Menues are on the smaller side, but it should be enough. There were a lot of wasps here, so sitting outside was a problem.

On September 7th, 2024, the three of us were again at Ganymede for breakfast. We sat outside on the banks of the Spree in great weather. We had a lovely champagne breakfast with beef tartare. And then there was M A R E N, our fantastic service. Nice, kind, courteous, polite, competent, attentive, etc. It was a pleasure and a pleasure for us to have been Maren(Aylin)'s guest at Ganymed. The food was fantastic. The staff are very hospitable. I visited this restaurant more than three times during my trip to Berlin and enjoyed every minute of the meals. There's a new employee who brings the food and takes the orders - I think she's the best. On the other hand, the Asian employee needs more support; she seems insecure and makes a lot of mistakes. Tourist trap, stay away! We went there twice for dinner. Once about 12 years ago. The last time was three weeks ago, the food was an absolute disappointment both times, service was subpar, waiters are constantly busy with their cell phones and inattentive, only three tables occupied in the evening, four waiters on duty and no one was really attentive, on the contrary, interested loose, and careless. Until the end I complained about the bad food, then a waitress explained to me that only tourists eat in this restaurant or people who can't cook themselves?! I did at least get a tip from the waitress about another restaurant not far away where, in her opinion, you can eat good French food. Thank you at least for that! According to her statement, there was actually a northern Italian trying to work in the kitchen, but that evening there was only one Pole in the kitchen, who is not a chef himself, and he served us bouillabaisse with tomato paste and a little fish, which was actually an insult to him French cuisine! Conclusion ; Prices overpriced, service impossible, kitchen an insult, 2 days of heartburn (!) never again Ganymede!!!

Upscale gastronomy with upscale prices. However, the quality is also high. There is a star deduction because I had to wait forever for my second coffee and then the wrong one came, not suitable for this requirement. Nice view of the Spree and the excursion boats.

Great French brasserie! Very good cuisine, perfect service, cozy atmosphere. The recommendations of the day are definitely worth ordering! Fine wine selection. We were very satisfied again!

I ordered two beers at the table using this code ordering system and only received one. I then asked (the staff seemed overwhelmed and didn't know much German... Then I wanted my money back (since we had to go to the show). They said that that wasn't possible because I had to complain about it via Paypal. I then asked if I could have my beer can still drink after the show ...."No, that's not possible". I find it really incomprehensible.... I only have proof in the form of a Paypal payment.

I had a good laugh when my espresso arrived...well my shot I should say...😅🤣 a third of a cup of Espresso... P.s. The Wednesday evening server is super nice! (Proof that we are not in France) I hope they pay their employees better than they fill their cups...

Good service and simply good food!

Worst restaurant experience during our stay in Berlin! Overpriced. Rude and unfriendly staff. Bad service. The staff doesn’t notice or care about the customer: we had to wait very long for our order, got a wrong dish and had to wait more than 15 min to replace it. In the meanwhile the other person’s dish was cold. No apologies from staff. Then we had to wait more than 30 min before getting the bill and the waiter had the guts to explicitly ask for a tip of 10 or 12% ?! Berlin offers a lot of excellent restaurants with value for money but certainly NOT not at Ganymed!

We dachten aan het water dat we een leuk plekje gevonden hadden om te lunchen en werden verwelkomd met een grap van de ober. Vervolgens bestelden we een salade, wat blijkbaar een Franse variant was op hetgeen we dachten te krijgen. Het eten was ok, maar de manier waarop de ober na het eten bezig was met dat de vrouwen moesten betalen kwam heel erg vreemd op ons over. Helaas geen plek om nog een keer te bezoeken.

Great service, menu reads great. Great ingredients, unfortunately poorly prepared. Lobster soup tastes like shrimp, cod has no taste, king prawn is completely overcooked. Beef fillet very good. Price-performance doesn't match.

Alongside the river Spree, at Schiffbauerdamm, there's a well established French restaurant with the name Ganymed. During the warm summer you can sit outside , between the restaurant and the river. As you can see at the photo there are several locations, but Ganymed is around the corner of the world famous "BE theater", Berthold Brecht, situated between two bridges. The French cousine ist exzellent and offering meat, fish as well as vegetarian dishes. In comparence to other local restaurants you need to have a big wallet. They sure do exept debit and credit cards. No one is asking you to leave after the usual time of eating so you can enjoy your wine with no hurry. One last thing I recommend is using public transportation as you will not find any parking.

We almost didn't come here because of the 3.9! Absolutely unjustified review! It was a really nice afternoon, with super nice service, nice atmosphere and great food. We'll be back

To be avoided. They charge a tip (12% in our case) on the bill without any prior information. This is not mentioned anywhere and this is against the law. A tip should be decided by the customer not by the restaurant. Moreover, the prices for the drinks are much higher than what you find in similar places. Go somewhere else.

Service is sluggish although food is fine

Beautifully located on the Spree, with a reservation you can sit directly on the bank if you're lucky. Inside it is also huge and attractively decorated. For the number of guests, I think three toilets for women are not enough. The food is creatively prepared and the portions are quite large by French standards. The salmon tartare could do with more lemon for my taste, but the fish itself is fabulous. The service is charming and friendly. It all takes a while, but with such a luxury meal you can take your time. You have to put in a lot of money.
