A very kind invitation from friends brought us to Brasserie Ganymed. We entered the restaurant with an open mind and joy, only to discover that the obvious (our friend's electric wheelchair – explicitly noted in the reservation) hadn't been taken into account, and the large wheelchair was very difficult to maneuver through the tightly packed tables, even into the farthest corner. The only waiter, a very friendly gentleman, took quite a while to work his way through to us to take our order. From then on, things got better: After a reasonable amount of time, both the drinks and the food arrived as ordered. However, a deep blue sauce for the duck breast, the rooster in wine, and the ox cheeks left us a bit skeptical; well, two other dishes were of excellent quality. We're not complaining, please do a little better next time. 😉

This restaurant was the epitome of enduring splendor. The atmosphere, decor, and music were from the last century. The dishes were perfectly edible, but not daring or surprising. It was easy to make this at home. Lots of elderly people came to eat their food.

The lunch menu is appealing and reasonably priced, the quality is good, and so is the service. In the evenings, it's often busy, so you have to wait longer. There are also a lot of tourists... The prices are comparatively high, the quality is adequate, but the dishes often lack that final touch you'd expect in a French restaurant.

Felt like we were dining in France. Lovely eating both outside by the water for lunch and then---because we enjoyed it so much--inside for dinner the following week. Delicious French onion soup, perfectly cooked steak and fabulous fries. Great, reasonably priced French wine selection. Looks touristy, but is not. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Finding a great restaurant that meets all your personal needs today on a cold, windy, and rainy weekend in Berlin isn't easy, as many restaurants can only survive because they're allowed to use a large area of ​​public street space! So today I fulfilled a long-held wish and visited the beautiful, historic "Brasserie Ganymed" at Schiffbauerdamm 5! But first, a quick note about the name "Ganymede." This is a figure from Greek mythology: he is said to have been a Trojan prince, son of the King of Troy! And he was famous for his beauty! According to legend, he was kidnapped to Mount Olympus by order of Zeus, the father of the gods, to serve as Zeus's cupbearer and become immortal! (In the Middle Ages, the cupbearer was a highly influential official in European royal houses who procured, managed, served, and tasted wine for the prince! In other words, what we know today as a sommelier!) But back to the restaurant visit! There's an interesting history here, too: originally, this was once a dining room for fishermen and shipbuilders! Then, as times changed, a bank moved in, and it wasn't until 1931 that the gastronomic past was finally built upon with the opening of "Ganymed"! And the fine restaurant quickly developed into a social meeting place for politicians, artists, and wealthy citizens! After the fall of the Wall, that was the end of it! It wasn't until the mid-1990s that extensive renovation work began, allowing this wonderful place to be restored to its former glory and, since 2005, successfully continue its tradition under the name "Brasserie Ganymed"! Once guests pass through the entrance, they find themselves in another world!!! The white-clothed tables are set and ready for guests! The high walls and the particularly beautiful decorative elements on the ceiling, as well as the impressive chandeliers, create an extraordinary atmosphere of elegance that gives guests a strong sense of security! For those who love French cuisine, this is a place where guests can enjoy themselves! For my starter, I chose the lobster soup with a whole shrimp: that alone made the visit worthwhile! For my main course, however, I quite simply opted for the classic steak with a glass of Bordeaux red wine! Both were, as expected, of excellent quality!!! I only found the vegetables a bit overseasoned! But everything else was perfect! The menu is very extensive and a true treasure trove of French cuisine! I still have a lot of work to do to try at least a small portion of the offerings! And since the restaurant is also a wine shop, guests have an almost inexhaustible selection of excellent wines, sparkling wine, and champagne!!! And I must mention that I was looked after by two very attentive, competent, and friendly staff members!!! So, all in all, a successful visit, except for a group of guests in the back of the room who pretended they were the only ones there and burst into roaring laughter every time someone in the group made a perhaps funny remark!!! Very strange, in this wonderful place of good taste!!!

I've been going there quite regularly lately, and I have to say, it's always a pleasure to eat there. Felix (even though the love is no longer there), Anastasia, and everyone else provide fantastic service and make a lot of effort. The food is also excellent for the price range; there are a few minor flaws here and there, but overall, it's always delicious. Generally speaking, I can recommend eating there to anyone; it's worth it! ;)

If you completely ignore the fact that a small plate with pasta is about 25€ and that the staff has no overview of the tables, you still have to face the fact that the service is bad and the staff is untrained. My mother didn't get her food, we waited half an hour after we got ours. The waiters avoided us when we went to ask about it. Yes, I understand the kitchen made a mistake, that happens. But the waiters should be trained to check on the guests after they've received their meal "is everything alright with you?", but they didn't, which prolonged our wait and our frustration even further. Besides that, even though they did at some point realise their mistake and bring my mom her food, no compensation was offered - something that's usually not the case in a restaurant that cares about their guest's satisfaction. Overall, I would tell everyone to NOT come to this restaurant if you care about having your meal brought to you before an hour and service that cares about their guests.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Our waiter was very friendly and elevated the entire dining experience to the next level. The food was flavorful and tasty. I particularly loved the Gambas al Ajillo and sole. The roasted rack of lamb was okay, but my favorite was the sole.

We were brought the wrong meal, which cost €36 instead of €16 due to a server error, and unfortunately, we were charged the full price. Since we were hungry and had been waiting a long time for the meal, we accepted it without knowing how much it would cost. Unfortunately, I have to give this service one star, as they would rather take responsibility for their mistakes than scare away customers and charge the full price.

Very good, but beware the prices can soar. I just had a quiche and a beer. The whole thing was tasty and accompanied by a well-seasoned salad. Pleasant terrace and friendly service. It was a pleasant break from the stroll through Berlin.

Let's see, first day in Germany and first restaurant we visited. At first, everything was fine, although the waiter was very funny and tried to be liked. Honestly, he was fine for a while, but for a long time, he got tired. The food was passable but not amazing, very average. But the good part comes when it’s time for the bill, the ponytailed waiter (there was only one and he’s on lunch duty) comes up to us and in German and English starts telling us that he’s put a tip percentage on the PDA and I ask him how much is the base (they don’t bring you the receipt which would be the most normal thing and they show you the bill on a mobile phone) well I see that it said 270€ and then I tell him he’s charging 275€ with the confusion I don’t even know what he was charging me, and he got really angry and threw the 5€ in my face, so doing the math our bill came up to about 240€ and he had already applied the tip and took 30€ home, be careful with this waiter he’s a showman and if he can cheat you he’ll cheat you.

It's a lovely spot for an evening al fresco meal and drink on the banks of the Spree River. We chose it after 9:00 PM on a Friday evening when we saw a few tables available by the river without a reservation. The service was excellent, with a friendly welcome and excellent attention. The crème brûlée was delicious, served before being lit at the table. The cocktails were well-prepared. We had a delightful evening, and we'll definitely return if we're ever in Berlin. I highly recommend it.

Group of 15 boys went here every morning for beers and breakfast on our 5 day stag doo. The staff were very friendly and good humoured. The breakfasts were lovely and the beer even better. Would recommend to any group or even couple as they catered for everyone. Nice spot right on the river and we had beautiful sunshine every day.

A great restaurant that invites you to linger, including the restaurants down the street. The food is good and the atmosphere is perfect. But as a former employee, I would advise future employees not to set foot there. Payment practices are poor.

Unfortunately, even after my second visit, I still can't recommend this restaurant. The food tasted awful, and many of our table had upset stomachs the next day. The price doesn't reflect the quality of the food. However, the service, or at least the one or two waiters, were extremely good and attentive.

Great food, no question! Unfortunately, they try to fit as many people as possible on the riverside and have about 30 cm of space between tables. Some seats are only reachable if you ask people on the neighboring table to stand up. We were quite unlucky and had a group of very loud and drunk people directly next to us. Everyone else in close proximity was disturbed.

Stay away from this restaurant for its really poor service. The waiter ignored us for 20 min before ordering. At the time of ordering , I explictly emphasised I was ordering from the daily menu as it was at 15.00, which the waiter smirked at. Daily lunch is between 12.00-17.00, according to their own boards displayed on the outside of the restaurant, see photos. But we were charged evening prices. I had taken a photo from the board were the daily menu was written. The waiter shouted at me for taking these pictures as he said the same were in the menu booklet. One of the waitresses confirmed the new head waiter had made a mistake on the bill, but he was really dishonest and insisted on over charging us from the evening menu. Will not return here. Good riddance. You can't charge people a higher price at a whim, that's fraud. Hopefully the owners will fire this unpleasant Oberkellner, as he is up to shady stuff.

I always considered the Ganymed a tourist trap because it was featured as the best restaurant in the GDR in 300 GDR novels (not true, by the way; the best restaurant for East Germans was the French restaurant at the top of the Hotel Stadt Berlin). Now I was invited there for my father-in-law's birthday, and I have to completely revise my opinion. Delicious food, super-friendly staff, and, by Hamburg standards, very fair prices – I'll definitely be back soon!

The starter was okay, but nothing more. The main course, however, was very tasty; the ox cheeks with a rich sauce melted in your mouth. My wife's fillet was perfectly medium and also tender. The friendliness of the waitress on the morning shift left a lot to be desired. However, there was a shift change, and the gentleman did an exemplary job, even fulfilling an explicit request from the reservation. All in all, we were satisfied with our visit and would come again.

We sat outside, by the Spree. It's a very nice spot when the weather's right. The service was friendly and attentive. Changes to the menu were readily accommodated. I had a three-course meal for just under €40. It was very delicious. Overall, the food, including everything else, was of very good quality and flavorful. I'd be happy to go back.

I would not order again, we had Octopus and Flammkuchen, both definitely not delicious. It’s just another tourist place. A little French touch with well-worn french music, that’s all.

We celebrated my wife's birthday here. Everything was fantastic. The onion soup wasn't as good as in Paris, but it was still delicious. The service was also very friendly. At the end, we even got a birthday cake on the house.

We put together a three-course menu and were very satisfied. The Burgundy snails, the Brasserie duck, the rack of lamb, and the crepe Suzette were all very good! A wonderful evening. Thank you!!

We had breakfast there twice. The breakfast selection is fantastic – I would recommend their toast and pancakes. The first time, we were served by a really sweet woman with glasses who helped us choose the drinks, which made the experience worth coming back for. The second time, the experience wasn’t the worst, but we were served by a man who made the experience uncomfortable - that's why 3 star for the service.

Disappointing – not fresh and not hot We were very disappointed with our visit. The food arrived surprisingly quickly, but unfortunately it was only lukewarm and seemed more reheated than freshly prepared – this impression was further reinforced by the lukewarm plates. For dessert, we ordered crêpes, which were prepared right in front of us. Unfortunately, the waiter forgot the cutlery, and by the time we finally got to eat, the crêpes were already cold. Overall, it wasn't a great experience – it certainly doesn't live up to the brasserie's positive reputation. We expected much more for the price.

Very good French food. The service is a bit chaotic, and the wait is long (but that's perhaps typical of French food), but it's also very nice. The atmosphere is typically French. And the prices are good for Berlin Mitte.

The food wasn't bad, but while coc au vin is usually cooked in red wine, here a pre-cooked sauce is poured over a piece of chicken. It's not really authentic. My husband had the same sauce on his meal (ox cheeks). I wouldn't eat there again, as the prices are too high for the food.

We had booked a table for five about two weeks in advance, with a request for something green, like flowers, on the table. It was an 80th and 55th birthday. None of the requests were fulfilled. The five of us were offered a table for four. Then two tables were moved around. The food was good, but the fish soup should be reconsidered. This is my favorite restaurant in all of Berlin. The fantastic summer terrace is my absolute favorite. The atmosphere here is calm, relaxed, balanced, and very cozy. It feels like being on an island of tranquility among almost 4 million people in Berlin. This restaurant, with its coziness, reminds me of a piece of home. 🇺🇦 The service is perfect, 10 out of 10. And the food is delicious. I'm simply in love with this place! 😍

André❤️ old skool waiter. Made a steak tartar at the table, chatted with our young people - gave them life lessons. A waiter like André makes ALL the difference. So many places that have good locations and bog down the ball.. not here. And may I add: The food was good! Maybe not a place for weed-smoking interrailers, but for a small family from Stockholm - perfect!

As a solo traveler, I'm relegated to a small table on a completely open terrace at late lunchtime. Instead of sparkling water, there's still water, and the food from the bistro menu is sold out.

It was truly delicious and fresh. The friendly and attentive waiter, Mirko, even arranged a table for us right on the riverbank, even though everything was already fully booked. I can highly recommend it; the salmon and octopus were delicious. The recommendation for an inexpensive wine was very helpful, and everything tasted wonderful.

The goat cheese salad was more like an appetizer... Service was okay—I expected some help from the waiters when we were subsequently instructed to change tables... Only after we asked were we helped with the drinks and appetizer. The taste was okay, but it could be better.

Bon jour à tous😏 I ate here twice in a row, Thursday lunchtime and Friday, June 20, 2025. I really enjoyed both days... The Caesar salad was so good that I actually asked about the sauce and received a very friendly answer 😊 Since my son is a chef, I think I can judge this very well and some hotels could learn a thing or two from their experience! Wir sind eigentlich Fans… Haben schon zu DDR Zeiten Taufen hier gefeiert. Wenn wir in Berlin sind, dann einmal ins Ganymed. Dieses Mal war es eine Enttäuschung. Es fing an mit… es gab keinen Martini… das ist jetzt nicht das ungewöhnlichste Getränk dieser Welt. Auf der grossen Karte im Restaurant Innen Bereich standen mehrere Gerichte .. also die aktuellen Speisen. 1. geeistes Gurkensüppchen. Gab es nicht 2. Blutwurst Gab es auch nicht Unser Kellner, ein wirklich reizender , sehr freundlicher Mensch, da gibt es nichts!! zu kritisieren, wollte eine Weinflasche mit einem Korkenzieher öffnen, brachte einen Eiskühler nach 20 Minuten. Es war nicht viel zu tun…..er kannte die Speisen nicht musste alles auf der Karte gezeigt bekommen. Dieser arme Mensch war schlecht eingearbeitet, was für alle doof war. Leider entspricht das nicht den doch höheren Ansprüchen, die man an dieses Traditionslokal hat. Für die Touristen oft 1x und nie wieder… Für wahre Kenner wie uns war es schade. Das Essen war nicht mehr als durchschnittlich ( dieses Mal).

We had a good lunch here. Nice place, nice view and good food well prepared. However the service is too slow, overall we spent 1,5hr to rat one dish only.

"Exquisite Speisen und Weine für Gourmets und Genießer", so die Selbstauskunft auf der Website des Hauses. Warum sich das in meiner Erfahrung nicht widerspiegelt will ich hier schildern. Ich war als Teil einer größeren Tischgesellschaft eingeladen, die Speisenauswahl war vorab getroffen. Wasser stand auf dem Tisch, sowohl "still" als auch "medium". "Classic" war nicht bestellbar. Nun gilt "classic" inzwischen nicht als die typische Wahl von Gourmets, mir ist aber daran gelegen, sprudelnderes Wasser trinken, als Genießer. In der Karte war die "VORSPEISEN VARIATION" ausgewiesen, bestehend aus Lachstatar, Ziegenkäse, Entenleber-Terrine, Fenchelsalami, Bayonner Schinken, Oktopus, Oliven und gegrilltem Gemüse". Das ist nicht der vegetarische Wunschtraum, aber immerhin zwei Komponenten kommen ohne Tier aus. Die freundliche Bitte meiner Frau, das gegrillte Gemüse auf einem separaten Teller zu servieren, löste offenkundig Verwirrung aus. Erste Reaktion: nein, das ginge nicht, die Vorspeisen seien bereits angerichtet. Dann: mal sehen, was wir machen können. Dann: wir finden eine Lösung. Am Ende - die anderen hatten mittlerweile den grlßten Teil des ersten Ganges hinter sich: nein, man könne hier nur mit einer extra Nachbestellung reagieren. Das war nicht nur zeitlich zu spät. Inzwischen hatten wir den Ziegenkäse im Teig als sehr zäh kennengelernt und war nicht an weiteren Experimenten interessiert. Der Hauptgang, der insgesamt nach sehr langer Pause geliefert wurde, bestand für die Einen aus Steak, für die anderen aus Artischockenrisotto. (Bei den Steaks war zuvor der Gargrad abgefragt worden, den hat die Küche aber anders interpretiert, als Leute an unserem Tisch. Die fanden, dass das "medium"-Steak deutlich zu "rare" tendierte. Die Artischocken im Risotto erwiesen sich als angenehm zart; der Reis selber war mit "al dente" noch zurückhaltend in seiner magelnden Gare beschrieben. Schließlich das Dessert: Die "Crème Brûlée" sollte laut Karte am Tisch flambiert werden. Da ich kein Freund des Tischfeuerwerks bin, war ich darauf nicht erpicht, aber dann doch erstaunt, dass die Aktion an einem Tisch irgendwo in der Nähe stattfand.

Waited for 1h 15 min for 1 meal, no starters or anything, just a steak. Was then told that it would take another 25 min because they had a big group. But around 30% of tables are empty. Had to swap the steak for a döner on the way as there is a limit to how long one can wait.

I don't know if it's the restaurant mentioned in the Kairos book, but even if it's not, I'd love to see it. We went there the day we were due to return and were in a hurry, so the slow service was a bit of a bother, but otherwise we loved both the food and the atmosphere.

We were there on Friday evening and had a great table for six. The waiter was very attentive. The wine recommendation was spot on. The food was truly outstanding. A lovely ambiance rounded off the evening! Sure, the prices are a bit high, but the restaurant is highly recommended! Five stars from all of us!

We went for breakfast and received first-class service. The location right on the Spree was also fantastic. Thanks to André for the historical insight into this wonderful house.

I enjoyed a delightful meal here with outstanding wine. Escargot among the best I've eated. Tender and delicious lamb rack. An extremely satisfying meal worth the money. I'm certainly planning another visit while in Berlin

Best warm breakfast I have ever had in Europe. Server recommended Croque Madame .. in his words ‘he loves it so much until it comes out of his ears’ and indeed it was extremely delicious!

TO AVOID ABSOLUTELY Although the food we ordered was delicious, it's totally a scam. For 130€, half langouste half hummer, 2 scallops and 6 prawns that were absolutely not even big black tigers as announce in the menu. Even as written in the menu, what is announced should be for one person but the order can be placed only if 2 persons ordered at the same time. Totally misleading by design. In addition poor service, no bread while all the others received, fries cam 10min after. And they were surprised not receiving a tip !!!!

A little higher priced, but great quality Quiche and Toast Benedict highly recommended
