Ganymed Brasserie in Berlin

We've been going to Ganymede for over 20 years but now it's over. It always used to have a welcoming welcoming atmosphere and you would be greeted by friendly professional staff. There's been an icy, cold atmosphere lately and people are literally checking you out whether you're allowed in or not. Like you want to go to a nightclub. Mind you, we are dressed unremarkably normally and appropriately for an upscale restaurant. This happened to us again today (the third time), so we turned around and left the restaurant. It's a shame, it was a nice place to go for a long time, especially since we live around the corner.

Breakfast for four. Friendly waiter who tried to speak Spanish, which is appreciated. Very good atmosphere and everything we asked for was very good. We definitely have dinner here for our next visits.

I had a really good veal fillet, but this is no longer the French brasserie it used to be, but more of an upscale Italian restaurant. Many small details are missing. Unfortunately, it's no longer my go-to place when I'm longing for the French way of life.

We only tasted the crepes but the menu looked appetizing. We were well received. The terrace is heated, which is a plus. To do again to taste beef bourguignon and other French specialties.

Nice end to a great visit to the Friedrichstadtpalast with the in-laws. Food was very tasty, but could have had a little more on the plate. Service very attentive. Food was at the table very quickly. Prices very high.

If no waiter is available, you can also place your order using a QR code. Unfortunately for you, the app does what it wants. Just add a €10 tip and an additional drink. But if you want to cancel it, you can't because it's a third-party system. And that's where things get really complicated. For me the first and last time in this brasserie.

Lunch in Mitte (Berlin)... Very fine cuisine and extremely attentive, friendly, entertaining and interesting head waiter. Thank you for this experience...

Visited for lunch, mid afternoon on a Monday. The weather was fine so most people were sitting outside by the river. Great location. A little pricey, though the food looked good and was indeed good when we got it. However, there was only was person serving and he was extremely busy. The food service was very slow, not because of the waiter particularly as he was working like a Trojan, so I assume it was the kitchen. We waited 1 hour to get our food after being seated and essentially had to miss out on a second course because we couldn’t risk another hour and there were quite a few people waiting. We did tip the waiter, despite the very slow service, but used cash in hand and didn’t want the tip to get anywhere near the restaurant owner or whoever was managing restaurant inside. Would have rated higher if the service wasn’t so slow.

I had the Flammkuchen, which is like flatbread or pizza, with sparse toppings so the crust stays crisp. It was good and large enough to share. My husband had the Raviola with basil which was delicious. Servers were VERY busy so we had to wait. We had a lovely outdoor table along the river and the restaurant had blankets available as the evening was chilly.

Fantastic French cuisine in the middle of Berlin. Very stylish and well-kept, friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great ambience with wonderfully preserved stucco. Simply recommended.

I've been here several times and am always impressed. Excellent cuisine, attentive service and a beautiful ambience (both inside and outside.

Nice genuine French restaurant close to the Spree with a lot of tables outside. Easy way to enjoy the river, people and city life. Food is fast and presented well. Service is a bit slow but food is served fast. Menues are on the smaller side, but it should be enough. There were a lot of wasps here, so sitting outside was a problem.

On September 7th, 2024, the three of us were again at Ganymede for breakfast. We sat outside on the banks of the Spree in great weather. We had a lovely champagne breakfast with beef tartare. And then there was M A R E N, our fantastic service. Nice, kind, courteous, polite, competent, attentive, etc. It was a pleasure and a pleasure for us to have been Maren(Aylin)'s guest at Ganymed. Passable food, expensive price. They didn't bring us the bill, directly the dataphone. With tips included

The food was fantastic. The staff are very hospitable. I visited this restaurant more than three times during my trip to Berlin and enjoyed every minute of the meals. There's a new employee who brings the food and takes the orders - I think she's the best. On the other hand, the Asian employee needs more support; she seems insecure and makes a lot of mistakes. Thank you for the hospitality and delicious food

Tourist trap, stay away! We went there twice for dinner. Once about 12 years ago. The last time was three weeks ago, the food was an absolute disappointment both times, service was subpar, waiters are constantly busy with their cell phones and inattentive, only three tables occupied in the evening, four waiters on duty and no one was really attentive, on the contrary, interested loose, and careless. Until the end I complained about the bad food, then a waitress explained to me that only tourists eat in this restaurant or people who can't cook themselves?! I did at least get a tip from the waitress about another restaurant not far away where, in her opinion, you can eat good French food. Thank you at least for that! According to her statement, there was actually a northern Italian trying to work in the kitchen, but that evening there was only one Pole in the kitchen, who is not a chef himself, and he served us bouillabaisse with tomato paste and a little fish, which was actually an insult to him French cuisine! Conclusion ; Prices overpriced, service impossible, kitchen an insult, 2 days of heartburn (!) never again Ganymede!!!

Upscale gastronomy with upscale prices. However, the quality is also high. There is a star deduction because I had to wait forever for my second coffee and then the wrong one came, not suitable for this requirement. Nice view of the Spree and the excursion boats.

Locale sulle rive dello Sprea, con cucina francese ed internazionale. Il cibo in effetti è buono (sia pesce che carne) ma i prezzi non sono allineati al servizio, molto lento e non adeguato al vivello del ristorante

Great French brasserie! Very good cuisine, perfect service, cozy atmosphere. The recommendations of the day are definitely worth ordering! Fine wine selection. We were very satisfied again!

A wonderful evening with a view of the Spree. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was good and the food was good. The wine accompaniment was only explained very briefly and succinctly, so unfortunately we learned very little about it. The food was tasty and good. For the starter, a soup with less spillage on the edges would have been desirable. But the taste is very good. It was a beautiful evening and a very nicely located location.

I ordered two beers at the table using this code ordering system and only received one. I then asked (the staff seemed overwhelmed and didn't know much German... Then I wanted my money back (since we had to go to the show). They said that that wasn't possible because I had to complain about it via Paypal. I then asked if I could have my beer can still drink after the show ...."No, that's not possible". I find it really incomprehensible.... I only have proof in the form of a Paypal payment.

Good service and simply good food!

I had a good laugh when my espresso arrived...well my shot I should say...😅🤣 a third of a cup of Espresso... P.s. The Wednesday evening server is super nice! (Proof that we are not in France) I hope they pay their employees better than they fill their cups...

Worst restaurant experience during our stay in Berlin! Overpriced. Rude and unfriendly staff. Bad service. The staff doesn’t notice or care about the customer: we had to wait very long for our order, got a wrong dish and had to wait more than 15 min to replace it. In the meanwhile the other person’s dish was cold. No apologies from staff. Then we had to wait more than 30 min before getting the bill and the waiter had the guts to explicitly ask for a tip of 10 or 12% ?! Berlin offers a lot of excellent restaurants with value for money but certainly NOT not at Ganymed!

We dachten aan het water dat we een leuk plekje gevonden hadden om te lunchen en werden verwelkomd met een grap van de ober. Vervolgens bestelden we een salade, wat blijkbaar een Franse variant was op hetgeen we dachten te krijgen. Het eten was ok, maar de manier waarop de ober na het eten bezig was met dat de vrouwen moesten betalen kwam heel erg vreemd op ons over. Helaas geen plek om nog een keer te bezoeken.

Alongside the river Spree, at Schiffbauerdamm, there's a well established French restaurant with the name Ganymed. During the warm summer you can sit outside , between the restaurant and the river. As you can see at the photo there are several locations, but Ganymed is around the corner of the world famous "BE theater", Berthold Brecht, situated between two bridges. The French cousine ist exzellent and offering meat, fish as well as vegetarian dishes. In comparence to other local restaurants you need to have a big wallet. They sure do exept debit and credit cards. No one is asking you to leave after the usual time of eating so you can enjoy your wine with no hurry. One last thing I recommend is using public transportation as you will not find any parking.

We almost didn't come here because of the 3.9! Absolutely unjustified review! It was a really nice afternoon, with super nice service, nice atmosphere and great food. We'll be back

Great service, menu reads great. Great ingredients, unfortunately poorly prepared. Lobster soup tastes like shrimp, cod has no taste, king prawn is completely overcooked. Beef fillet very good. Price-performance doesn't match.

Good restaurant on the Spree. The food and drinks are very good. The ambience outside is okay. The service is good, unfortunately a bit delayed. All in all we will be back.😀

To be avoided. They charge a tip (12% in our case) on the bill without any prior information. This is not mentioned anywhere and this is against the law. A tip should be decided by the customer not by the restaurant. Moreover, the prices for the drinks are much higher than what you find in similar places. Go somewhere else.

Beautifully located on the Spree, with a reservation you can sit directly on the bank if you're lucky. Inside it is also huge and attractively decorated. For the number of guests, I think three toilets for women are not enough. The food is creatively prepared and the portions are quite large by French standards. The salmon tartare could do with more lemon for my taste, but the fish itself is fabulous. The service is charming and friendly. It all takes a while, but with such a luxury meal you can take your time. You have to put in a lot of money.

“NO” was the first thing I heard when I wanted to lean my folding bike against a bracket on the terrace (wouldn't bother anyone) to get something to eat and drink...Due to the lack of a bike lock, I wanted to have my expensive bike with me. The food is probably good and I just couldn't confirm the ambience...because I then left and gave my money to a restaurant where I was even allowed to take the folding bike into the restaurant...but the crucial word before the "NO" would be then I already said hello...sorry

The coq au win is underground. Pieces of chicken and other side dishes swim in an indefinable muddy sauce - served in a small casserole. Those who mixed this together in the kitchen have probably never heard of French cuisine. Awkward!

Great coffee and great service too. Marin in particular, a super friendly waitress, does a great job. No task is too much for them, Spanish guests are no problem as the service is immediately changed to Spanish. Always my pleasure!

It is very bad restaurant for the place where it is located.neither service nor food is ok.the ice cream is homemade but has such a light taste, homemade fries for about 10. Service makes the atmosphere very bad, because of its impudence. What makes the whole thing even worse is the owner himself, he has neither knowledge nor friendliness. As a guest you don't feel warmly welcome, where you have to ask yourself, is it even worth it? If you order fries for 10 euros, it's better to go to a fries shop because you'll get a smile for free Weinbar, Vincent, Ganymend are for the same owner, so the same system

Good restaurant, good menu, good food. Poor service took a while for the waiter to pay us any attention. The first course came before the wine and water. Water took longer after 3 inquiries. The main course was good and enjoyed the meal. Let down down by the service.

The setting and atmosphere are very pleasant. The food is very good and varied. The service is a disaster. Everything went well and very helpful until the starters. Then nothing more, we arrived at 7:00 p.m. and left at 11:00 p.m. Incompetence, slowness and the German language is not spoken. I do not recommend this restaurant for this and especially for tourists. Not to do.

Now I've finally decided not to go there again just because there are good memories and because it's such a nice place to sit. The staff has become friendlier and more competent, but the food is now only a mocking shadow of the good Alsatian brasserie cuisine of the past. The Choucroute Garni is almost a mockery when you remember what it used to be like. It is fitting that there is no longer a single wine from Alsace on the menu. A high-priced tourist dump with lots of beef and expensive seafood. A pity.

I find it very expensive. 75€ just a dish for 2 people (1 not-so-great seafood pie and 1 fatty sauerkraut) with 1 beer and 1 glass of wine and 1 bottle of overpriced water: 9.50€ for 75cl. Restaurant to avoid

I stopped here with my work colleague after the theater. The welcome was warm. We ordered a nice bottle of wine and a cheese plate. An excellent tartare was added later. We were very satisfied and I have already planned my next visit.

The worst service ever. We sat down to eat at 1:30 p.m., at 3:26 p.m. we received only drinks. My goodness, how horrible.

We went there for lunch and ordered quiche and Flammkuchen. If you order only a quiche, you will probably be hungry. The classic Flammkuchen was great. What we didn’t like at all was the service. The waiter was intrusive and annoying, constantly telling “jokes”. It was clear he was trying to win extra tip with that. I just wanted to have lunch in peace with my family. We spent almost 100€ there and the waiter complained about the tip. He threw the extra bill I gave on the table saying “leave it, maybe next time”. That was so rude. I assure you there won’t be a next time. Do not recommend because of the service and restaurant is overpriced.

I had the yoghurt cup which also looked very good but unfortunately it tasted like the milk had expired and I had an iced chocolate but it was completely inedible as if the chocolate had already expired for 3 days and had been sitting around. Unfortunately it was a disappointment

Food was fine, drinks were warm Service was incredibly slow and often rude, staff were lovely, but someone in charge, not serving anyone but instead co-ordinating really killed the atmosphere and made everyone feel as if they were intruding by going to his restaurant

The atmosphere was great. Seating right by the river. The menu had a lot of options for breakfast, almost too many. Our server was lively and had a great table side manner. The food was excellent. No kid's menu but they had good enough options on main menu.

Fantastically located French restaurant on the river along one of the main tourist roads in Berlin leading to Checkpoint Charlie. It's a classic French menu with everything that you would expect to get. I had the Steak Tartare, and my wife had the Steak Frites. I have to say that they were both pretty good. It's not the best I have had in Berlin, but it's certainly not the worst. Prices are on the high side for Berlin, but the location probably just about justifies the premium over other Berlin French restaurants. I had the Mousse Chocolate at the end, and that was great, but again, the price was not cheap, so I expected something great, and thankfully, this was the case here. Service was perfect, and the views are really breathtaking if you take one of the outside tables by the riverbank. Overall, it was expensive and really good. What more can you say?

The food was tasty but the portions were far too small for the price. The younger waiters were very nice. However, we had the misfortune of having an older man who thought he was very funny and unfortunately made our visit very unpleasant. In general the client tea is very questionable. There was an old man sitting next to us who had a very unpleasant cough and was constantly smoking next to us. Unfortunately, no one there is interested in that either. Service is awesome! Waited more than 40 minutes for two Cola Zeros even though the place wasn't even half full. The dessert we ordered still wasn't there after more than an hour. The greatest forecast of the Spree doesn't help either... a single catastrophe in the shop.

Highly recommended, good all round

overpriced Fish platter for 2 people 90 euros. Little, fish overcooked. Empty cups instead of beurre blanc on the plate instead of beurre blanc. The side salad only came after three requests. We had already eaten by then. Ordered Caesars sallad without chicken, but it came with it. When I complained, I was insulted as being unfriendly. In the end the bill was reduced by 20 percent but we actually wanted to have a nice meal without stress.

The food was delicious but the service was terrible. Not only did it take twenty to ten minutes to order, but the drinks and food I ordered either got cold on the counter or did not come out. I recommend it to those who have a lot of time and patience.

You can have a fantastic breakfast right on the Spree. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly and helpful, and when the weather is perfect, you're in seventh heaven. If you like a delicious breakfast, you're in good hands here.

La maison de Pastis. Ganymede has long been famous among connoisseurs for this French specialty. Maitre André serves food and drinks with a mixture of femme fatale and Berliner Schnauze and provides charming entertainment.

I have been a regular guest at Ganymede for over 10 years. When I'm in Berlin, I eat all my meals there from breakfast to dinner and have never been disappointed. For me as a French woman it is a piece of home. The location on the Spree is fantastic, the service is very competent, friendly and accommodating. I can only recommend

This brasserie is one of the Berlin restaurants that rip off tourists. While the service is included in Germany, some automatically add a tip to the bill without telling foreign customers like this brasserie. After paying, I asked for the bill to do my accounts and it was on the way back that I discovered the line "1 Trinkgeld" (tip). I had to ask for 3x the bill even though they made us pay first. Decent food but be careful, for 19.50 per burger, no side dish. Count 5.50 euros for a very small portion of fries.

Our tour group had a reservation for breakfast, 12 people. Despite the confirmation email and reminder email from the previous day, we were not able to test the restaurant. The employees on site were unable to serve us or operate the cash register, authorized personnel were not available, nor was the boss. So we were forced to look for something else in our not exactly small group, which was very difficult at first. Even the following day, no words of apology by email or telephone. We wouldn't take the risk of making a reservation again. A pity.

Unfriendly waitress, that's not possible

We sat outside in the small square in front of the restaurant, even though we had already taken a seat inside. We were presented with a menu and it listed different dishes than those on the menu outside. Since there were only two tarte flambées to choose from for the inside area, we asked if we could get another one, the answer was no. So we sat outside. There wasn't much to do, maybe 30% full. After about 5 minutes we were greeted with the words that we should please sit against the wall of the house as these tables were no longer served. We reluctantly moved. After another 10 minutes we were finally able to order. The food came very quickly compared to the order. It was very delicious. After eating I wanted to pay and that took a long time, so I was about to leave without paying. I would have preferred to leave before ordering, but I stayed there because our 10-year-old daughter wanted a specific tarte flambée

The restaurant is quite nice, and is quite close to the Spree. It is nicely decorated and looks good. The service was lacking, the waiters hardly knew enough English, so communication was difficult. Of course, it would have helped if they talked and didn't whisper. The neighboring table got another table's bill - not right. The food looked fine and tasted ok - it's not a gourmet experience, but if the price is to be believed, then you get gourmet. Finally the waiter asked for a tip - huge no-go.

A total disaster!!! We're here for a girls' weekend and just wanted to have a relaxed breakfast! The service was subpar, the food came one at a time half an hour apart - nothing included having breakfast together. The yogurt is fermented. Other guests complained and were told they could leave too! Absolutely not recommended!!!!

A breakfast visit that had an unpleasant effect for a long time because we, as locals, had the feeling that we had fallen into a tourist trap. This feeling mainly has to do with the type of waiter who served us. Perhaps it comes across to others as “typical Berlin snark”, but we found this service to be brazen, snotty and impolite and not in keeping with the kind of upscale gastronomy that one would like to portray. In a way that is more reminiscent of an intrusive insurance broker, the gentleman initially tried to “fool” as much as possible. When we asked to receive a small glass of tap water with the espresso (usually the absolute standard with the espresso and we only wanted a “shot glass”, not a carafe!), we were told that this was not possible and that we could order a bottle of water . We didn't dare mention the fact that the eggs in the glass were far too hard and the truffled egg had no truffle flavor at all because we were tired of snide answers. By the way, it was obvious that we found this type of service very unpleasant. But even then the waiter was painless and finally made it very clear when paying that he expected a tip. Unfortunately, overall a very unpleasant experience. The two stars are just for the location.

Disappointment! Fish soup with hardly any fish for a whopping €28 declared as “Bouillabaisse”! Waiter brought soup & disappeared. Refill the plate yourself!

The French restaurant has its own charm. The decor, the food, the ambience are all made in your own taste. As long as you like it and adapt to the style and food, it is one of the most beautiful restaurants on the banks of the Spree. The service is very quick and attentive. The portions are sufficient to large. The prices are averagely high.

Dishes from the lunch menu until 5 p.m. at reasonable prices and good quality. Good wine selection and service that takes care of the guest.

Good food, service is good, we sat in the restaurant and we really liked the ambience.

It's one of our favorite bars when we're in Berlin. But not because of the food, but because of the location on the canal and in the middle of it all. Always drink a wine at totally exorbitant prices, but that's normal. But wines aren't great.
