The food was rather subpar and overpriced. Points for the service.

A visit to the Ganter Brewery is a real highlight. The extremely friendly and professional staff, who provide excellent service even when the house is full, deserves special mention. The brewery also scores points for its commitment, such as its participation in the 100th anniversary celebration at the Münstermarkt (Münster Market). The restaurant is highly recommended. The quality of the business even persuaded me to apply there, but unfortunately, my other part-time jobs prevented me from accepting the position.

Very friendly staff and very fast service

The beer is good, and the food is good too :) Centrally located near the cathedral, so understandably there are lots of tourists…

Good regional cuisine. The dark beer is excellent - a nice change from the Helles lagers ans pilsners that most places have.

Typical tourist joint. Okay for drinks; poor quality food. The Black Forest ham platter for a mere €20 is absolutely outrageous. Ham from a package, thick bacon inedible, bread from the day before. Guys, you can do better with almost the same margin! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Nothing special. A simple leek quiche with salad, no presentation, at an expensive price. The service was slow. I'm still waiting for my dessert... Not great.

One star only because there aren't zero stars... I had a big caterpillar in my salad... the chef took the plate without a word,... turned around, and disappeared into the kitchen... not a word of apology... nothing... only when it came to paying and we expressed our outrage, yes, we're totally stressed here because there are concerts all week and we have to vacate the table by 3 p.m. ... so what??? does that justify a caterpillar in our food???? In the end, we didn't have to pay for my husband's meal... poor error management 👎

I've rarely had to deal with such unfriendly staff, although I can't speak for the entire staff, of course, but only for the gentleman we dealt with!

We had pork roast, which was served carelessly: 3 pieces of meat + 2 potato dumplings with a bit of gravy, all cold. There was a lot of trash and dirt under the tables, as they hadn't cleaned them in a while. We didn't get full, but we appreciated the fact that we could get seconds. So we got a free half portion, which was a bit warmer. We wouldn't visit this restaurant again.

A typical restaurant! Very much like the locals! Dishes that reflect the restaurant. One downside was the brown sauce, which was way too salty! Aside from that hiccup, a beer and a pretzel to start the meal! 😎😅

Schnitzel was good, sausage salad was okay, and cheese spaetzle was a total failure. There's no cheese in it, it's sour cream. Very annoying; the price increase compared to last year is as big as the drop in quality. A shame.

I sat outside and had the pork roast with potato dumplings! The roast was OK, but nothing more. The crust wasn't crispy enough and was kind of mushy! The dumplings had the taste and consistency of a convenience store product! The service, as I admit, was definitely not professional! Well, I knew it would be more expensive and not worth the price!

The location of this restaurant is lovely in the main church square. The menus were great, and they offered English translations. The quality of the food was high, and we enjoyed our dishes. The service however was incredibly slow, and at times unprofessional. I know they were working hard, but it definitely impacted the quality of our experience.

I ordered veal cutlet with fries for €31. The meat was excellent, but the portion was small and oily. The presentation was like a barracks meal. Beer at room temperature.

I had roast pork with potato dumplings, which was okay. My wife had sauerbraten with red cabbage and bread dumplings. The sauerbraten was too firm and the red cabbage was flavorless. She could have punched a hole in my head with the bread dumplings. The service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere was just what you'd expect from a brewery. We won't be going there again.

The food isn't anything special for the price you pay. Quality and price don't go hand in hand, but the most important thing is that we had to complain about our food after waiting an hour while they served customers who arrived later than us. They didn't give us any explanation. Without a doubt, if we return to Freiburg, we won't return to this restaurant.

We were looking for a restaurant that served local, home-style cooking and found this one. The food was rather mediocre. We had schnitzel with fries, among other dishes, and were very disappointed. Above all, the price-performance ratio is poor. We'll probably come back for a drink, at most :(

Not my problem, mate." Now for the food. "Mediocre" is a charitable description for the culinary failure that lands on your plate here. The schnitzel tastes like it came straight from a gas station microwave, and the Bavarian potato salad seems like a love child of vinegar and disappointment. There's bound to be a döner restaurant nearby that will make an effort. Star rating: 1/5, and that one star is for the location, because even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Went to the Ganter Brewery Pub on Münsterplatz for the first time on Thursday evening. The terrace was busy, but we still managed to get a nice table. The guests were all in good spirits, and the service was fantastic, attentive, and friendly. Huge praise! There were two of us, and we each ordered a mixed platter (roast, bratwurst, bacon, sauerkraut, spaetzle, and dumplings). The food arrived piping hot and tasted delicious. The prices aren't unusual for a place on Münsterplatz, but they're justified given the overall package of good food, excellent service, and ambiance. We're definitely planning to go back.

Visually, the food looked delicious, but then... the meat was dry, the red cabbage was just poured out of a jar and reheated, and there was far too little sauce for the weak flavor. I can't recommend this restaurant. A waste of money.

The soup is oversalted and has a very strange taste. The schnitzel is simply dripping with oil...

Beer was good, table was extremely dirty and the waiter tried to cheat us (probably not the first time, as we were warned by our table neighbor that we should be careful)… and I'm sorry but 6.80€ for 0.5l beer… I think it's too expensive

The complainers who give bad reviews here have no idea about the restaurant industry. Sure, if all the outdoor and indoor seating is full, the service can be a bit slow and the food might not be 100% perfect. We visited today around 4 p.m. Due to the weather, it was quite quiet. The service was appropriately attentive, friendly, and prompt. Special requests were accommodated. However, the prices for the spirits are a bit exorbitant. Someone needs to explain to me why €6.50 for a 2cl herbal liqueur is worth it. Nevertheless, the restaurant is highly recommended.

Positive: The beer was very good, the most expensive beer in all of Germany so far. €6.80 is insane. The tables were dirty, of course—no beer mats. They weren't even wiped down. When sitting down, I was warned by the table next to me: the waiter often forgets the change or gives too little. Bingo, too little. For me, that's intolerable. Actually, minus 5 points, but as I said, the beer was good.

Unfortunately, the soup was a disappointment — it tasted like it had been blended instead of strained. The texture is gluey and pretty much inedible. The schnitzel also didn't look and tasted good. The crust was soft and greasy, and the meat inside was hard and dry. Definitely not worth the price. Wouldn’t recommend.

Completely overpriced food. As a couple, we ordered cheese spaetzle and a large mixed salad with zander. The cheese spaetzle were mushy—edible, but soft noodles with cheese and sautéed onions for €20? The mixed salad consisted of green frisée lettuce with some potato salad and a few carrots. The zander was OK but a bit tough—even for that, €28 was a steep price. At first, they only wanted to offer us a seat on the terrace without a reservation: it was pouring with rain! The friendly waitress then intervened, and we got a quite comfortable seat at the bar: ultimately, the highlight of the visit.

Everything was as usual. I'd be happy to come again.

Lovely food, great beer, nice staff, beautiful setting. The menu even says they are very happy to serve second helpings, which they did to one person out of 5 but didn't seem too happy about it. still lovely overall.

We ordered food, and the starter came with the main course. A dish we didn't order was brought out. My husband ate it anyway to lighten the load in the kitchen. Unfortunately, both dishes—the sauerbraten and the roulade—were inedible. Very dry and tough. We've rarely had such a bad meal. For the price of approximately €100, it wasn't worth it. What a shame!

Apparently, we only have kiosk waitresses here. You order a non-alcoholic wheat beer, and they bring you a regular wheat beer. They put the drinks down and immediately run away. If you want to pay, you wait forever for someone to come. We skipped the meal after looking at the daily menu. Sagate with chanterelles for €29.90. We think that's a bit overpriced. Incidentally, that's the cheapest lunch dish. We consider this a Turi Nap because of its fantastic location next to the Minster.

Great location, nothing to complain about, however the prices are exorbitant: €5.60 for a Coke and the same price for apple juice diluted with water... €20 for bland, overcooked käsespäzle and €19 for a slice of leek tart; it's really expensive for what it is. If you have the money to spend, go there, otherwise don't bother.

Worst service in a long time. When we asked to set up a table for 6 people outside, we were initially met with complete incomprehension, and we had to help ourselves. When we ordered a second beer, it took more than 10 minutes to arrive, despite repeated reminders. Ordering a cake at the end also took more than 10 minutes, despite reminders. Is it baked first? Never again!!!

Unfortunately, I can only agree with the other reviews. The location is great, but everything else is a flop. While the service was attentive and friendly, the wait time (drinks arrived after we'd finished eating) and the level of interest were rather low. The prices are exorbitant (even considering inflation), and the Käsespätzle (€20!!! - mini portion) were overcooked and tasted questionable.

Habe bei Ihnen eine Spargelsuppe bestellt. Der Service war freundlich und nett, die Suppe hat mir sehr geschmeckt, leichte Textur, vielen Dank an den Koch. Nachteil: kann bisschen günstiger sein. 11,90 € ist schon ziemlich teuer, wobei alles hat schick angesehen.

Be careful—unfortunately, old reviews (even back then, you had to wait forever outside for orders... that hasn't even changed) for which there is no longer any evidence are being taken to court and deleted in order to improve the star rating. As good as the beer is—especially the Urtrunk—the bar at Münsterplatz isn't a good restaurant.

We heard stories and legends, the history of the place. We decided to check it out. The restaurant is centrally located, in the square of the great church. We had dinner for 3 diners - 2 adults and a girl. We ordered a main course for each adult, the flagship dish with a selection of meats and a schnitzel for the girl. The dishes are terribly expensive, and the price is not stated. The meat was not tasty, the sauces are weak. The only thing that pleased the dish were the polenta balls (!). The service is reasonable. A big disappointment with a bill of 125 euros for 3 diners. Not recommended, we will not return....

Das Bier ist gut, und das war auch schon alles positive. Das Essen ist überteuert, geschmacklich eine Katastrophe, und weitgehend Dosenware vom Discounter. Die Bedienung ist überfordert und teilweise sehr unfreundlich. Nie wieder.

Bei schönem Wetter gibt es eine ausgedehnte Außenbestuhlung auf dem Münsterplatz, dann ist natürlich viel los . Trotzdem war der Service prompt und freundlich . Die Speisen sind typisch lokal , wir hatten Forelle und Sauerbraten . Meine Bratenportion war sehr üppig , ich hätte mir nur etwas mehr Gewürz gewünscht .

We were particularly impressed by the fantastic location on Münsterplatz: we had a front-row seat in front of the beautiful Freiburg Minster, overlooking the hustle and bustle of the Saturday market. However, we should have taken a closer look at the menu: €6.50 for a non-alcoholic wheat beer is quite a statement, or quite frankly, an outrage. Despite the fantastic location, the price is absolutely unjustified! Incidentally, if you miss the right moment to order, it can take quite a while before you get a second chance. The staff were reasonably friendly. This happened at the next table, so I asked the waiter to please take the order from the next table while I was going to the restroom. At these prices, we'll have to look for an alternative on the beautiful Münsterplatz!

Visited the Ganter here in Freiburg today. Pretty old, everything here isn't exactly modern. The prices are quite high. OK for a one-time visit, but you don't have to visit it a second time.

Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed during our spontaneous visit during our stroll through the city. We found the prices to be quite high compared to the quality of the food. The cheese spaetzle was particularly noticeable: it was tasteless and had an unappetizing, mushy consistency on the plate. Overall, not a culinary highlight and not a recommendation for us. You seem to get tips with the drinks, the usual amount of drinks is just under 5€...

Such a juice shop, overpriced prices, eating what you pay is a disgrace, eating is how much mush of your spaetzle, asparagus or the meat here. The location is nice but nothing more. Service is unfriendly and there is a 10 minute wait. I came here from Stuttgart to see the city. It's been dealt with !!!

We went with my partner and my son several times for a drink. Beautiful place, friendly and ideally located, the waiters are very friendly and provide quality service. The drinks menu offers plenty of choice and the beer is excellent.

Unfortunately the service is not available. Food is okay when it comes. But the prices are utopian and in no way match the rest.

The food is ordinary. However, because there are so many, there is a wide range of choices. There are no waiters/waitresses in sight. Outside, it takes 30-40 minutes from when you sit down to order to when the food comes out. Korean people’s costumes are amazing.

Die Kellnerin war freundlich und aufmerksam, aber nichts besonderes, so wie man es eben erwartet. Getränke ( Hefeweizen und Aperol Spritz) waren gut, aber etwas überteuert. Das Essen hingegen war eine einzige Katastrophe. Der Elsässer nein Wurstsalat, hatte nichts mit einem Elsässer Wurstsalat gemeinsam. Viel zu viel Öl, miserabler Geschmack, als ob der Wurstsalat seit Tagen in der Küche steht. Maultaschen waren angebrannt, und der Kartoffelsalat kam eher aus dem Plastikeimer. Unterm Strich viel zu teuer, Touristen abzocke, hier ist Vorsicht geboten.

Unfortunately, food was far too expensive. The cheese spaetzle was poorly seasoned and cooked for such a long time and the portion was basically far too small. There is a note that there is generally a second look. But it is very, very, very hidden. We were one fork short and didn't get any more. There was a used napkin in the served box. I was at the Ganter brewery bar today and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. After I sat down on the terrace, I had to wait a whole 15 minutes before anyone showed up, even though I made myself known beforehand. But instead of serving me, the waiter simply asked the other two guests if they would like to pay - he completely ignored me as if I wasn't even there. Without even asking me for an order, he disappeared back inside the restaurant. I have rarely experienced such rude behavior. When you are treated like this as a guest, you feel anything but welcome. It's a shame - I was hoping for more. Conclusion: If you value friendly and attentive service, you should perhaps look for another location.

Very bad and the price was very bad

I ordered a chocolate with Kuchen, they serve foreigners well, I am a Spanish speaker and they tried to speak to me in Spanish and brought me a translated letter. It has a very local and beautiful home decoration. Only 4/5 for the Cocoa, the Cocoa was good, but I wish there was a hot chocolate option on the menu. They give you cookies for your hot drink and when you pay the bill 💖

We were here twice, or rather we would have liked to have been here twice The first time everything was good, the service was friendly and the food was OK The second time we were thrown out again even though the door was open We were met with a very unfriendly “we are closed”. That's not how you treat guests!

Really outrageous prices. Went there on Shrove Monday and paid €20 for cheese spaetzle, which was really at canteen level. It's not bad in itself if you charge €8-10 for it. But the card in general was really super expensive. The prices are an absolute disgrace

This space was dark and bleak. The waiter who unwillingly placed the drinks before us was exceedingly unfriendly. The atmosphere is not welcoming and you will be overcharged if you are a suspected Tourist. We were charged 11.50E for a pint of beer and glass of water from the bar tap although the menu stated otherwise. Unfortunately, this is a total tourist trap! In short, I believe the only reason this brewery persists is due to its historical location. Nevertheless, if you want to experience great German hospitality, a warm atmosphere, authentic beer and excellent food go to the locals brewery, Hausbrauerei Feierling. It is only a few blocks away. Without a doubt, the service was outstanding.

The dishes are excellent and in sufficient quantity. The service is lousy: we received the beers quickly but it took 45 minutes for the waitress to come back and take the order, even though she obviously wasn't busy all the time.

Bier, 0,5 für 6,50 €, absolut überteuert. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis nicht akzeptabel. Essen teuer, Qualität ausbaufähig. Die Lage entschuldigt nicht alles. Nicht zu empfehlen.

Excellent bar / restaurant near Freiburg cathedral

I actually can't understand all the complaints. You can eat well in this restaurant and the service is always friendly and quick.

We went with my family, it is a very nice place, the food is great and it is very affordable, it is a clean and friendly place, I recommend it to everyone.

Weird, No choice for wine by the glass… After receiving the drinks, we were warned that it will not be possible to pay via credit card. We say that we don't have any cash and so we are going to leave... As luck would have it, we are told that it works again, but that we would have to pay €108 straight away! Surprisingly, we usually pay at the end of a meal! This is what we did. Faintness ! The menu was correct, the service minimalist. We ask for a salad as a starter for one of the guests, he imposes a large salad on us, forced sale. At the end of the meal, the boss comes rushing in with his winter coat, telling us that there will be no receipt for payment by credit card, very surprising. He adds the bill on his smartphone, and finally we pay by card without proof. This restaurant is really weird. I strongly advise against it. It smells like confusion, no wonder there weren't many people there!

Tourist trap! The most expensive beer I have ever seen on a menu in Germany. These prices are only known from Switzerland. On top of that, the service is super unfriendly.
