FunkyFisch in Berlin

If you make a reservation at 8:30 p.m. you expect to have a table then. Unfortunately, we had to wait 30 minutes for our table and were asked if we wanted to walk around the block in December... so we waited in the entrance and were offered drinks, but unfortunately there was no accomodation due to the delay. Even though it was just water. Unfortunately, everything is a bit disappointing in that regard. Especially at the price. But the main thing is to try to sell us a second bottle of wine three times. Food was ok. I won't come back as I expect slightly better treatment. Thanks :)

Incredibly delicious food and excellent service. I have rarely seen such professional staff. You can feel that a team is working here. Great working atmosphere among the employees. Roman in particular made you feel like you were “at home”. You don't have that often in a restaurant. Thank you and keep it up

What can I say except WOW!? Thanks to the fabulously relaxed, friendly team in front of and in the kitchen. You can have fantastic food in many places in Berlin, but the unpretentious yet highly professional and attentive nature of the service team at Funky Fish impressed me. I'll be back.

While there is no information about that anywhere, nor instagram, nor even the windows of the restaurant, the place is not dog friendly. What a waste of time and booking

Nice staff and super delicious food

We are regulars at Madame Ngo and wanted to finally try Funky Fish today. Unfortunately we were ignored at the entrance until the head waiter came and arrogantly asked, “Oh, that’s how you were at first?” We answered “Yes”. The other guests clearly looked “like more money”. We were rejected at 3:13 p.m. because there were supposedly no free seats without a reservation. I come from the catering industry myself and to us it seemed more like they wanted to keep the space free for people with “more money”. There was also space everywhere in the restaurant, which of course makes sense at 3:13 p.m. In the Afterwards we could see that guests left the restaurant right after us and made room. It's a shame we had a bad experience here, we would have liked to try the fish and also had patience to wait. We can therefore no longer recommend the store. Thank God there are still many alternatives in Berlin that people from your professional field also accept.

Great food with great attentive but unobtrusive service. However, quite loud.

It was my first visit to FFisch and I truly enjoyed it. While it’s a nice restaurant, it’s casual and not pretentious. The staff were very accommodating. The starters were perfect, delish and super well-priced. The mains were good, but could be slightly improved: my “massive tagliatelle” was delicious, but a bit under-seasoned. Where as my friend’s Bouillabaisse was tasty, but quite salty. From an ambience perspective, I loved the energetic vibe and positive atmosphere, however when people come into the restaurant, it does get a bit chaotic at the entrance with people coming in/out, paying, getting jackets etc. Still, overall a pleasant experience and I’ll definitely be back.

Food was tasteless, octopus was firm and rubbery, aioli was almost plain mayonesse and waiter was making us feel that we need to rush. Had big expectations from this place. Totally dissapointend!

Everything excellent, very high quality fish and not only, a great menu with different options. Simple interior and from outside can also look not appealing but it is for sure worth for the food and service, recommended!

Das Essen war eine 10/10 (Popcorn Shrimps - ich will nie wieder etwas anderes essen), das Ambiente ist super sympathisch, rustikal und gemütlich und der Service ist mehr als einwandfrei!! Don’t be put off by the scruffy exterior. Inside is the freshest of fresh fish, neat tables and a lean decor. Everything is about the fish, but the side vegetables being so good was a positive surprise. The sides were a little on the expensive end I thought, but the main courses reasonably priced. The restaurant is very good on oysters- my wife had three different varieties and vouched for the freshness. My cod was perfectly cooked as was my wife’s turbot. This is a friendly unpretentious place which does exactly as its title says. Everything is about the fish. And it does it well.

The best ceviche I’ve ever had. The sea bream. Don’t skip it. My server was awesome. So fun to talk to. Same with the hostess. Great food and a really beautiful modern atmosphere. And comfortable counter stools!

Die Speisen waren sehr gut gewürzt, abgeschmeckt und auf den Punkt gegart. Die Bouillabaisse mit sehr gutem Geschmack aber überschaubarer Einlage. Ceviche und Tempura-Gerichte sehr gut. Durch die Betondecke ist es ungedämpft recht laut, im Vergleich mit dem benachbarten 893 unter gleicher Regie etwas robuster aber fast ebenso teuer. Die Preise - insbesondere für Getränke - sind recht hoch. Insgesamt ein kulinarisches Erlebnis, das man sich leider nicht allzu oft leisten wird.

The dishes were very well seasoned, seasoned and cooked to perfection. The bouillabaisse with very good taste but manageable contents. Ceviche and tempura dishes very good. Due to the concrete ceiling it is quite loud when unmuffled, compared to the neighboring 893 under the same control it is a bit more robust but almost as expensive. The prices - especially for drinks - are quite high. Overall, a culinary experience that unfortunately you won't be able to afford very often.

Modern atmosphere, with lots of neon, the food is great, unfortunately a bit overpriced.

The neon lights make it modern and chic. The warm toned wood makes you feel cozy and relaxed. The stainless steel finish brightens up the place, and the open kitchen gives you a sense of comfort and familiarity. The staff is amazing! They are very hard working people and the nicest people I’ve ever met! Come visit funky fish if you want to try the best fish in town and like a good atmosphere! This is the best place I have ever been to in Berlin! The stuff is very hardworking and professional as well as nice and super sweet!! I could not recommend this place more! A bit much “light and shadow” in one place. The starter - a mixed tempura - was good, but not “exciting”. The Japanese mayonnaise served with it was very good. For the main course I chose a young turbot from the display case, a beautiful, fresh fish. Since I wasn't asked how it should be prepared, I was a bit "sceptical", but decided to let myself be surprised. Unfortunately, that was a mistake; the fish came out of the oven with an unhealthy, dark color. Unfortunately, the upper fillets were completely overcooked, dry, almost leathery in consistency. The lower fillets are at least not quite as dried out, but unfortunately over-seasoned with a very salty seasoning mixture. Unfortunately, this fish died in vain, everything that could be done wrong was done wrong here. The waitress probably guessed - at least I wasn't asked how it tasted. Service was otherwise casual and good, although the waitress seemed a bit unexperienced when filleting the flatfish and also “cut away generously”. She obviously didn't know that the skin of turbot is removed (leathery, or with the cartilage that gives the "stone" butt its name) - but after the fish was so overcooked, removing the skin was a challenge even to me Challenge… The dessert, a wonderfully light and good creme brûlée made from passion fruit, was the best dish of the day, there's nothing wrong with it. Overall, a bit too “funky” and for me one of the worst prepared fish I have ever eaten in a restaurant that specializes in fish. It's a shame, because the restaurant actually promises "big things" in terms of presentation and the great fish counter.

Exceptional super cool seafood with amazing atmosphere. You feel welcome from the first minute. Delicious seafood bar where you can pick what you like and you like it cooked. The service was superb. We really enjoyed our evening there.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. We picked a variety of fish from the seafood bar and each were cooked to perfection. The flavors of the fish were superb and the sauces on the side were excellent. We also had a crudo, oysters, and a few side dishes. Can’t wait to come again!

Nothing funky about it The fish is fresh. Unfortunately, a lot of work is done with marinades, oils and sauces, so you can hardly taste the actual product. The portions are small. Curiosity about other dishes is not aroused. The principle of the supplements is not explained to you at the beginning. The staff is friendly, but doesn't give any suggestions. Rehearsed standard sentences are recited. The forced you is unpleasantly intrusive. Once three tables are occupied it is unbearably loud. Overall the price isn't right either. In the end it's not a real experience.

A restaurant for fans of fresh fish and seafood. The ambience is modern minimalist. The service is friendly and attentive. Both full plate meals and fish from the buffet are offered. There are also various side dishes in the style of a Californian fish bar. The fish is served to perfection. The wine selection is good. The dessert and the espresso are also worth mentioning. We like the FunkyFisch 👍🏽

Caution! Better not to visit! After 1.5 minutes at the latest you will be asked to decide whether you want dessert or the bill. And that in a restaurant where you have already spent several hundred euros. What kind of policy is this? It's exceptionally bad even for Berlin, where restaurant owners can sometimes behave very strangely and arrogantly! There are better restaurants right next door!

The food was amazing and the service was okay - efficient. The dining experience was spoiled by the position of allocated table. The table butted up to the display of fish in the cabinet so the smell and constant view of the fish heads with dead eyes did not create a favourable ambience. Behind the table was the blackboard featuring fish for sale and diners' meal selections. This meant customers were purchasing their fish next to my table and it was also a focus for diners looking at the blackboard for what was on offer. Behind my table was the kitchen and to the right was a large rubbish bin. The table directly faced the main doorway and the point where the staff greeted clients and finalised bills. On checking the bill, I discovered I was charged for two glasses of wine when only one was consumed. In brief, the all ordered food was delicious but the evening was ruined by the table allocated and the carelessness of itemising and charges on the final bill.

Der Besuch hat sich gelohnt. Im Wesentlichen war das Essen gut zubereitet und genussreich. Leichte Einschränkungen betreffen das Essen: Der gegrille Lachs war bei zwei unterschiedlichen Speisen zu sehr durch, also an der Grenze zu trocken. Für 7 Euro ein halbiertes Drittel-Baguette anzubieten ist etwas frech. Leider gibt es im Souterain eine böse Überraschung: Der Zustand der Herrentoilette ist unzumutbar. Staunässe und Holz vertragen sich auf Dauer nicht. Der Spültisch und die mit OSB-Platten gezimmerten Holzkabinen würden jeder Kreuzberger Eckkneipe vielleicht gerecht, aber hier...? Unverständlich auch, dass die Tags an den Wänden nicht entfernt werden oder ist das Konzeptkunst?

Das Essen, u.a. das Ceviche, war insgesamt einfach großartig. Anmerkung auf hohem Niveau: Die Bouillabaisse könnte etwas mehr Fischeinlage :-) vertragen. Hingegen war die Bouillon spitze.!!!

First of I have to say that the service is outstanding. Really fun vibe and atmosphere and pretty unique to Berlin. I recommend sitting outside if the weather allows it. The food itself has been great as well. Ask the waiters what they would recommend.

Nothing was funky! Of course we cook too well and go to restaurants that are too good! But what if something is not good and certainly not funky? Staff was very good! If you can't cook and don't know different cuisines, why not?! Completely ridiculous! Nobody needs it, except wannabe Berliners!

Always good. We were there again on our wedding day. Great fresh fish and various oysters. Super relaxed service, always attentive but never intrusive.

Unfreundlich und rassistisch. Bei meinem letzten Besuch hatte ich das Essen und den Service in sehr guter Erinnerung. Leider war mein dieser Besuch eine Enttäuschung. Die Bedienung durch eine ältere Kellnerin war unfreundlich und herablassend. Wir wurden bei der Weinbestellung nicht gefragt, ob wir probieren wollten, während die Gäste neben uns diese Möglichkeit hatten. Das erschien mir unfair und ich fühlte mich sogar rassistisch benachteiligt. Außerdem wurde mein Freund bevorzugt behandelt, indem ihm die Dessertkarte gezeigt und erklärt wurde, während ich ignoriert wurde. Das Essen war gut, aber wegen des schlechten Services werde ich nicht wiederkommen.

War wie immer toll: Super freundlicher Service, Ambiente top, Essen lecker! Etwas pricey, aber worth it ;)

Wir waren zum 1. Mal im Funky Fish. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet (meine Empfehlung: Mixed Poke + anschl. Pulpo a la vela mit dem wilden Brokkoli), der Service sehr freundlich. Es ist nicht wahnsinnig gemütlich dort, aber im hinteren Bereich sitzt man ganz okay. Wir mussten 15 Minuten auf unseren reservierten Tisch warten, was völlig in Ordnung ist, nur gibt es dafür keinen Raum und wir standen gefühlt im Weg. Insgesamt aber ein gelungener Abend, wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Never expected to have sashimi of this quality in Berlin. But it’s always a great surprise when one. Stumbles into a gem! Fantastic Salmon Carpaccio, perfectly sliced and a tuna poke done to perfection. Lest not forget the Portuguese giant prawns (6) done to perfection. Everyone enjoy this diamond it’s really worth the visit.

Beautiful restuarant with fresh food. We had combination of grilled octopus, oysters, fresh monk fish, prawns and a raspberry crème brûlée. All the food came out in a timeous fashion, tasted great and service was among the best we’ve experienced in Berlin. Most notable on the food was a Miso/chilli sauce that accompanied the monk fish filet… just GORGEOUS!

It's wonderful. You would like to stay there for a long time, but you have to vacate the reserved place after 2.5 hours. Food, service, audience great. Kantstrasse with posing and traffic isn't exactly quiet, which disrupts the enjoyment of the meal. Clear recommendation.

Ordered the tuna tartare, shrimp popcorn and baos. Great tasting food, not the best value. Service was rude and extremely lacking, though I feel this was because we don’t speak German. Their menus are in English.

Six of us ate there. The service was very nice and attentive. The food was really very good, also of high quality. I ordered fried vegetables and the fried fish (cod). Both really well prepared and very tasty. The others were also enthusiastic about their food. We even ordered a small second round. Large and good variety of wines. We ordered both white wine and rosé. The only thing that spoils the pleasure is the fact that there is no air conditioning inside and the prices are quite reasonable.

Very attentive service, who explained the philosophy of the menu well and gave good advice on the sequence of dishes. Fantastic small starters (shrimps au gratin, tuna carpaccio, tiny hamburgers with fried fish) were followed by a main course that we chose at the fish counter (eagle fish, king prawns). These were accompanied by very tasty sauces and a stunning mushroom ragout in soy butter and egg yolk sauce. The dessert with raspberries was the crowning glory. We will be back.

Food was delicious. Overpriced but delicious, no doubt. Service was excellent from most waiters except for one who spoiled the experience by being inattentive and rude. Making farting sounds while passing our table, staring at us, not taking orders or not removing dirty dishes or trying to remove the very plate I am eating from where only a few nuisances experienced with the waiter in question. Might be okay in a nightclub or bar to have that kind of attitude but doesn't resonate with me in a premium restaurant. Not sure it is intentional since all of the other staff was highly professional but given the prices I expect more certainly.

Utterly disappointed by absolutely everything regarding this restaurant! TERRIBLE SERVICE! Awful management! They completely messed up our order, were bringing the starters together with the main dishes and never even apologized! They just lost a faithful customer! Can’t believe people keep coming here with this kind of service! I’m truly disappointed!

It was a disappointing dinner. The service was very slow and distracted. The food was mediocre. We had bouillabaisse, tuna risotto, salmon poke … everything was underwhelming. We ordered a 15 euros grilled vegetables which was the size of a tiny side dish. The restaurant forces you to buy bottled water and dies not serve German tap which is shocking. It started to rain and we had to go inside under intense spot lights…. We will not go back

Probably the best seafood meal I’ve ever had and I grew up on the ocean. The service was amazing as well! Try the fried shrimp with mayo and the mashed potato’s with truffles were divine! 5 stars all around!!!!

Genial- kurz und buendig. Ich haette gerne nochmals von vorne mit der Bestellung weiter gemacht. Ich werde sicherlich wieder in Funky Fish gehen, und es wird eines meiner top Empfehlungen sein. It was amazing! So many of the dishes just make me happy. Make me happy thinking back! What a fun place, a fun meal, hands down, great. Fish was spot on, the German wine list (we focused more on the by the glass, but had one bottle to start) was well curated and had some great picks. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and never felt overbearing, the setting was relaxed and fun, just writing this makes we go back for more. Even the espresso was really really really good. The beer list is not long and not too inspired, but with all these great wines, I did not miss a beer at all. One minor point (we are now really nit picking), we were never offered the cocktail menu, just saw some cocktails being served at other tables, so we asked for the cocktail list. VERY good cocktails. Happy we ended up with a few of them On a side note, funny as it is with spice levels, the popcorn shrimp could have been a bit more spicy for my tasting, but past reviewers begged to differ. Getting spice right is a challenge. But still very tasty. Thanks for a lovely evening,

Für dieses Restaurant kann man nur eine absolute Empfehlung aussprechen. Super Service und hervorragende Küche. Das alles bei einem vernünftigen Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der sehr freundliche und zuvorkommende Service. Es empfiehlt sich eine frühzeitige Tischreservierung.

The salad was soggy, overdressed and poorly executed. The Bouillabaisse was substandard (they claimed it to be the best in Berlin) and the coffee was weak and bitter. Wine did not meet our expectations. The one star is for the staff effort and a good piece of fish in the salad.
