FunkyFisch in Berlin

Don’t be put off by the scruffy exterior. Inside is the freshest of fresh fish, neat tables and a lean decor. Everything is about the fish, but the side vegetables being so good was a positive surprise. The sides were a little on the expensive end I thought, but the main courses reasonably priced. The restaurant is very good on oysters- my wife had three different varieties and vouched for the freshness. My cod was perfectly cooked as was my wife’s turbot. This is a friendly unpretentious place which does exactly as its title says. Everything is about the fish. And it does it well.

This place has a bit of a posh vibe, but it’s definitely worth a visit. They offer a great selection of fish and seafood that’s hard to find in Berlin. While it’s on the pricey side, the quality of both the food and service is top-notch. If you’re looking to splurge on a great meal, this is the spot!

Exceptional super cool seafood with amazing atmosphere. You feel welcome from the first minute. Delicious seafood bar where you can pick what you like and you like it cooked. The service was superb. We really enjoyed our evening there.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. We picked a variety of fish from the seafood bar and each were cooked to perfection. The flavors of the fish were superb and the sauces on the side were excellent. We also had a crudo, oysters, and a few side dishes. Can’t wait to come again!

Nothing funky about it The fish is fresh. Unfortunately, a lot of work is done with marinades, oils and sauces, so you can hardly taste the actual product. The portions are small. Curiosity about other dishes is not aroused. The principle of the supplements is not explained to you at the beginning. The staff is friendly, but doesn't give any suggestions. Rehearsed standard sentences are recited. The forced you is unpleasantly intrusive. Once three tables are occupied it is unbearably loud. Overall the price isn't right either. In the end it's not a real experience.

A restaurant for fans of fresh fish and seafood. The ambience is modern minimalist. The service is friendly and attentive. Both full plate meals and fish from the buffet are offered. There are also various side dishes in the style of a Californian fish bar. The fish is served to perfection. The wine selection is good. The dessert and the espresso are also worth mentioning. We like the FunkyFisch 👍🏽

Caution! Better not to visit! After 1.5 minutes at the latest you will be asked to decide whether you want dessert or the bill. And that in a restaurant where you have already spent several hundred euros. What kind of policy is this? It's exceptionally bad even for Berlin, where restaurant owners can sometimes behave very strangely and arrogantly! There are better restaurants right next door!

Everything is simply fantastic, you can't complain and I like to complain. We can only recommend this.

First of I have to say that the service is outstanding. Really fun vibe and atmosphere and pretty unique to Berlin. I recommend sitting outside if the weather allows it. The food itself has been great as well. Ask the waiters what they would recommend.

Nothing was funky! Of course we cook too well and go to restaurants that are too good! But what if something is not good and certainly not funky? Staff was very good! If you can't cook and don't know different cuisines, why not?! Completely ridiculous! Nobody needs it, except wannabe Berliners!

Food is good but service unacceptable… Very cheeky and rude!! From all the waiters who think they can condescend and force guests to apologize to the very unfriendly service manager. The last time…

Always good. We were there again on our wedding day. Great fresh fish and various oysters. Super relaxed service, always attentive but never intrusive.

Unfreundlich und rassistisch. Bei meinem letzten Besuch hatte ich das Essen und den Service in sehr guter Erinnerung. Leider war mein dieser Besuch eine Enttäuschung. Die Bedienung durch eine ältere Kellnerin war unfreundlich und herablassend. Wir wurden bei der Weinbestellung nicht gefragt, ob wir probieren wollten, während die Gäste neben uns diese Möglichkeit hatten. Das erschien mir unfair und ich fühlte mich sogar rassistisch benachteiligt. Außerdem wurde mein Freund bevorzugt behandelt, indem ihm die Dessertkarte gezeigt und erklärt wurde, während ich ignoriert wurde. Das Essen war gut, aber wegen des schlechten Services werde ich nicht wiederkommen.

War wie immer toll: Super freundlicher Service, Ambiente top, Essen lecker! Etwas pricey, aber worth it ;)

Wir waren zum 1. Mal im Funky Fish. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet (meine Empfehlung: Mixed Poke + anschl. Pulpo a la vela mit dem wilden Brokkoli), der Service sehr freundlich. Es ist nicht wahnsinnig gemütlich dort, aber im hinteren Bereich sitzt man ganz okay. Wir mussten 15 Minuten auf unseren reservierten Tisch warten, was völlig in Ordnung ist, nur gibt es dafür keinen Raum und wir standen gefühlt im Weg. Insgesamt aber ein gelungener Abend, wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Perfect evening, perfect food, perfect staff, so much fun!

Never expected to have sashimi of this quality in Berlin. But it’s always a great surprise when one. Stumbles into a gem! Fantastic Salmon Carpaccio, perfectly sliced and a tuna poke done to perfection. Lest not forget the Portuguese giant prawns (6) done to perfection. Everyone enjoy this diamond it’s really worth the visit.

Beautiful restuarant with fresh food. We had combination of grilled octopus, oysters, fresh monk fish, prawns and a raspberry crème brûlée. All the food came out in a timeous fashion, tasted great and service was among the best we’ve experienced in Berlin. Most notable on the food was a Miso/chilli sauce that accompanied the monk fish filet… just GORGEOUS!

It's wonderful. You would like to stay there for a long time, but you have to vacate the reserved place after 2.5 hours. Food, service, audience great. Kantstrasse with posing and traffic isn't exactly quiet, which disrupts the enjoyment of the meal. Clear recommendation.

Ordered the tuna tartare, shrimp popcorn and baos. Great tasting food, not the best value. Service was rude and extremely lacking, though I feel this was because we don’t speak German. Their menus are in English.

Six of us ate there. The service was very nice and attentive. The food was really very good, also of high quality. I ordered fried vegetables and the fried fish (cod). Both really well prepared and very tasty. The others were also enthusiastic about their food. We even ordered a small second round. Large and good variety of wines. We ordered both white wine and rosé. The only thing that spoils the pleasure is the fact that there is no air conditioning inside and the prices are quite reasonable.

Very attentive service, who explained the philosophy of the menu well and gave good advice on the sequence of dishes. Fantastic small starters (shrimps au gratin, tuna carpaccio, tiny hamburgers with fried fish) were followed by a main course that we chose at the fish counter (eagle fish, king prawns). These were accompanied by very tasty sauces and a stunning mushroom ragout in soy butter and egg yolk sauce. The dessert with raspberries was the crowning glory. We will be back.

Food was delicious. Overpriced but delicious, no doubt. Service was excellent from most waiters except for one who spoiled the experience by being inattentive and rude. Making farting sounds while passing our table, staring at us, not taking orders or not removing dirty dishes or trying to remove the very plate I am eating from where only a few nuisances experienced with the waiter in question. Might be okay in a nightclub or bar to have that kind of attitude but doesn't resonate with me in a premium restaurant. Not sure it is intentional since all of the other staff was highly professional but given the prices I expect more certainly.

Utterly disappointed by absolutely everything regarding this restaurant! TERRIBLE SERVICE! Awful management! They completely messed up our order, were bringing the starters together with the main dishes and never even apologized! They just lost a faithful customer! they dropped the ball on multiple fronts - table not ready on time, brought starters and mains at same time (because their kitchen was closing), forgot to serve the wine, brought wrong fish …

It was a disappointing dinner. The service was very slow and distracted. The food was mediocre. We had bouillabaisse, tuna risotto, salmon poke … everything was underwhelming. We ordered a 15 euros grilled vegetables which was the size of a tiny side dish. The restaurant forces you to buy bottled water and dies not serve German tap which is shocking. It started to rain and we had to go inside under intense spot lights…. We will not go back

Die Kellner waren alle sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und schafften es bereits beim betreten des Lokals, dass man ein Lächeln im Gesicht hat. Die Beratung für die Fischauswahl war ebenfalls treffend und wir waren von unseren Gerichten begeistert. Wir können das Funky Fisch nur weiterempfehlen.

Probably the best seafood meal I’ve ever had and I grew up on the ocean. The service was amazing as well! Try the fried shrimp with mayo and the mashed potato’s with truffles were divine! 5 stars all around!!!!

Genial- kurz und buendig. Ich haette gerne nochmals von vorne mit der Bestellung weiter gemacht. Ich werde sicherlich wieder in Funky Fish gehen, und es wird eines meiner top Empfehlungen sein. It was amazing! So many of the dishes just make me happy. Make me happy thinking back! What a fun place, a fun meal, hands down, great. Fish was spot on, the German wine list (we focused more on the by the glass, but had one bottle to start) was well curated and had some great picks. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and never felt overbearing, the setting was relaxed and fun, just writing this makes we go back for more. Even the espresso was really really really good. The beer list is not long and not too inspired, but with all these great wines, I did not miss a beer at all. One minor point (we are now really nit picking), we were never offered the cocktail menu, just saw some cocktails being served at other tables, so we asked for the cocktail list. VERY good cocktails. Happy we ended up with a few of them On a side note, funny as it is with spice levels, the popcorn shrimp could have been a bit more spicy for my tasting, but past reviewers begged to differ. Getting spice right is a challenge. But still very tasty. Thanks for a lovely evening,

Für dieses Restaurant kann man nur eine absolute Empfehlung aussprechen. Super Service und hervorragende Küche. Das alles bei einem vernünftigen Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der sehr freundliche und zuvorkommende Service. Es empfiehlt sich eine frühzeitige Tischreservierung.

Best fish I have ever eaten in Berlin. Absolutely great service. Why only 4 stars for the ambience? Personally I would have given it a 5 but it is special for this price range and you have to like it. To highlight the service again, I have to add a little story that I experienced today. I saw two ladies at the next table who were complaining about everything and left nothing good about this great restaurant. Apparently the food didn't taste good... The service asked several times what could be changed for these people and they didn't want to respond. I am a restaurateur myself and appreciate good service. Unfortunately, there are always people who use reviews as a means of pressure. Everything I experienced here was perfect handling and every attempt to satisfy the guest. In the end they were invited. It is and remains the best fish restaurant in the city and unfortunately there are always people who don't appreciate great cuisine and perfect service. Even the best restaurants in the world can't change that. It's a shame for me that these people even find a place in such a great store.

The salad was soggy, overdressed and poorly executed. The Bouillabaisse was substandard (they claimed it to be the best in Berlin) and the coffee was weak and bitter. Wine did not meet our expectations. The one star is for the staff effort and a good piece of fish in the salad.

Very tasty, fresh food with supreme quality. Wine prices are very high but worth for that quality. 48 € for Grauburgunder was not cheap but it was excellent. Everything what we ordered, starter, salad, main course etc 5 different plates came in 10 minutes and next to each other. We had to start with the hot meals and eat the cold starter as the last one. But the two espressi we ordered came after 20 min. and after we remembered for the second time. It was clearly forgotten! Very kind but unprofessional waiters. There is no air conditioning because the historical building is under protection. Newer go in summer.

Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Abend als Familie von 15 - 84 Jahren. Alle waren glücklich, zufrieden und satt. Bester Fisch, tolles Gemüse, köstliche Soßen und ein schöner Pfälzer Weißwein.

Was there again. Pasta Funky Fish. Du noodles were overcooked and swimming in oil. Drr fish was fried to death and the scampo in the shell was like flour. The dish is no longer worth recommending. Price performance is no longer right at all. I eat out about 20-30 times a month. The court was completely wrong. I've probably eaten it several times. This time hardly edible. It used to be creamy and is now drowned in oil.

The food was absolutely delicious. There was one English speaking waiter who made great recommendations. The food is eclectic but everything makes sense together. We ordered a little too much but we were stuffed and happy. The coffee and dessert were so delicious! I can highly recommend this restaurant and everything we ordered (see pic captions) was amazing! This places is great for special celebrations as it is a little more pricey than what is normal in Berlin. We went to celebrate our friend’s birthday.

The food was very tasty and fresh. However, after 2 hours we were asked to leave the restaurant because the table had already been taken (despite a reservation). So we had to down the second bottle of wine. We won't come back, it's a shame.

Lachs Bowl war sehr gut gewürzt. Zackenbarsch aus der Vitrine auch gut. Aber die beiden Nudelgerichte "Funky Fish" und "Massive Prawn" war arg überteuert, vor allem letzteres. Es wurden 7 (sieben!) Prawns auf ganz normalen Bandnudeln serviert, für 41€. Was daran "massive" sein soll, erschließt sich mir nicht. Schade.

Grat fish place, all the dishes were delicious from starters to desert. Bouillabaisse was better then in Marseille, grilled fishes all fresh and and tasty, tender calamari,r eally good patatas fritas, variety of sauces, full of flavor herb risotto, decent German wine. Service nice, friendly and helpful. Kitchen was bit slow, but we were not in a hurry and it's good to celebrate delicious food. Passionfruit crème brûlée surprisingly good.

If you fancy fancy fish in Belin then Funky Fish is perfect. Hard to get a spot but not impossible and then it's funky. I love it.

We were there for lunch on a Thursday. All the dishes tasted exquisite! We paid around €200 for three people without a tip.

Essen war ok. Der Fisch war qualitativ hochwertig jedoch ist der Preis für die Leistung und die Menge sehr hoch. Pulpo war etwas zäh. Service leider schlecht. 2nd seatings machen sich bemerkt , fühlt sich an wie auf einem Laufband. In weniger als einer Stunde wurde man durch die ganze Bestellung gehetzt (Setting, Bestellung, Vorspeise, Hauptgang etc) auf einen Espresso und der Rechnung musste man aber dann doch sehr lange warten. Leider nicht zu empfehlen.

Went to visit my wife's brother and sister in law for the weekend and they said it was a must that we visit FunkyFish, they were not wrong! From start to finish it was a fantastic experience. The staff were all fantastic; especially our waiters Steve and Tomislav. They were extremely polite, helpful and knowledgeable about the food and drinks menu. I had a view from our table to the bar and you could see the all of the staff working hard together whilst having fun! All the staff had smiles on their faces and I'm sure the chefs did too when they saw all our plates and the table next to us coming back clean! The menu had plenty of choice and the dishes were packed with flavour! I could have eaten the Spicy Shrimp Popcorn for starters, main and dessert. The oysters were very fresh, as if they'd just be plucked from the sea 5 minutes before we arrived. We ended the dinner with a couple of rounds of complimentary shots with our waiters. I will definitely be heading back their again when I visit Berlin next. Great job guys, thank you very much!

Were there for a quick lunch, the food was great, the service was nice until we payed and it apparently turned out that the staff was not happy with 10% tip (the bill was around 100, we left 10 euros), so they ignored us completely when we were leaving and said bye to them, was no reply, they were standing 2 meters away from us and acting like we don’t exist. Really unprofessional and disappointing, not going there anymore
