Forsthaus Gysenberg in Herne

We were there yesterday and enjoyed a lovely outdoor seating area. The food was fresh, and the portions were absolutely delicious. We were particularly impressed by the young and extremely friendly service staff, who were also very attentive. A very pleasant ambiance rounded off the experience. We will definitely eat there again. It's also worth stopping there for a quick drink during a hike.

We went there for the first time in a long time. The restaurant has a new owner. The manager was very rude. Our reserved table wasn't ready. No one knew anything about it. Then the manager came and complained that we were late. We should be glad we were allowed to eat there. After pointing out that guests were already waiting at another table, the response was: If we say another word, we'll have to leave. Unfortunately, the food was very expensive, but tasteless, and the meat was tough. Definitely not recommended!!!

There was no drinks menu. Drink prices were not visible.

Hello! Today, after our walk, we spontaneously stopped at the Forsthaus Gysenberg for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised and can recommend it. We'll be back.

The Forsthaus schnitzel is a must!!! More than 5 stars for me. An absolute highlight! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Forsthaus Gysenberg restaurant is beautifully situated on the edge of the forest. We've been satisfied regulars there for many years ☺ ☺ , and after the recent change of tenant, a new wind of Tyrolean gastronomy is now blowing there. The Backhändl (traditional sausages) and the original Wiener Schnitzel completely satisfied us, not to say delighted us ❤ 😋. I was also very pleased with the personal discussions about the new dishes and drinks 🍺 🍷 . I had a stimulating conversation with the restaurant manager and the chef from Tyrol. The service staff is not only friendly, but also has a good sense of humor, grin... so important in these hectic times! P.S. Starting from the Forsthaus, you can take a wonderful walk along the edge of the forest to Bochum Gerthe and then, with a detour through the forest of the Revierpark Gysenberg, back to the Forsthaus. And all this in the heart of the Ruhr region... 🌳 🌳 🌳

Very good food, including vegan and vegetarian options. Quiet location in the forest. Dogs were also allowed. We'd gladly return.

A real insider tip in Herne! I was completely impressed by the Forsthaus in Herne! The atmosphere is cozy, rustic, yet modern – you immediately feel welcome. The staff was consistently friendly, attentive, and welcoming. I would particularly like to highlight the cuisine: The dishes are prepared with great attention to detail, taste excellent, and are a true visual delight. Whether hearty home-style cooking or seasonal specialties – there's something for everyone here. The value for money is also absolutely spot on. The location in the heart of the countryside also makes the Forsthaus an ideal place for a little break from everyday life. I will definitely be back – a clear recommendation for anyone who appreciates good food and a relaxed atmosphere!

Well, one of the six meals was forgotten. The food itself was okay. Slow service. No drinks menu. It used to be better, but maybe it needs to get better after the change of ownership. Prices are the same as before (4 adults, two small children = €260 plus tip).

Unfortunately, it was just a convenience cake from the freezer, but it costs the same as a top-of-the-line pastry (€4.60). The cappuccino was very bland. I would have preferred a clean table and bench. Almost €9 for not-so-tasty food... We won't be back.

Watery, tasteless carpaccio with no pepper or oil. We didn't eat the meat. The fried chicken tasted like fish. The inedible pasta with asparagus had to be returned in its entirety. We were very disappointed.

We were just playing minigolf at Gysenberg today and then got the last free table in the Forsthaus beer garden. The food was great again, and the service was very friendly. You can also get coffee and cake or ice cream. We'll definitely be back.

We were there with a group of friends, and I have to admit, I've never seen such a disaster. The quality of the food is simply outrageous for the price. On top of that, the entrance isn't clean. It's really sad that all the good restaurants are leaving Herne :(

After the change of ownership, we wanted to give the restaurant another chance. During our visit to this restaurant, we were warmly welcomed by the service staff, who were attentive throughout our lunch. We would like to commend them for that! The ambiance, however, unfortunately seemed a bit lackluster and didn't quite transport us to a sense of Austrian coziness. The atmosphere was also a bit chilly, which was probably due to the fact that there were very few guests at the time of our visit and the acoustics and lighting could be improved. The food was served noticeably quickly – there was barely time for a short break between courses. The wild garlic cream soup was more like a stew in consistency and had a rather salty taste. For the main course, both the schnitzel and the fried chicken were quite dark and gave the impression of having been prepared in a deep fryer rather than the traditional pan. The fries were very limp, as was the lamb's lettuce. It's a shame, because with these dishes in particular, you expect a certain level of authenticity in an Austrian-inspired restaurant. Overall, there's still room for improvement here, unfortunately—especially if you've already had the opportunity to dine in Austria and experience the typical charm and quality. Hopefully, there will be further improvements in the future—especially in the cuisine and atmosphere—because the restaurant's location is quite promising and provides a good foundation for a harmonious overall experience.

Since March 2025, the Forsthaus Gysenberg has been under NEW management, and as such, you can now dine there again without any problems. We sat in the beautiful beer garden and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Although many tables were occupied, the atmosphere was very pleasant. We ordered drinks, which were delivered very quickly (the fruit and juice spritzers are highly recommended). We then ordered our food (Forsthauspfanne and fried chicken). The food was of very good quality and the portions were very acceptable. The service staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a very successful visit and therefore highly recommended.**** PS: the only small negative point is that the food can be delivered to the table a bit hotter...

Attention: New tenant since March 2025. As soon as we arrived, it quickly became clear that the organization left a lot to be desired: the reservation itself was noted, but it was initially unclear to the service which table was intended for us (7 people). The table was then prepared - the excuse was that we were early. We were actually two minutes early. Taking orders is difficult. At first no one came, then when someone came - probably the boss himself - he turned to another, neighboring table at the very moment when the order was to be placed. And then disappeared. The order worked on the second attempt. Then nothing happened other than drinks for over an hour. Greetings from the kitchen? None. Bread basket? None. When the food was served it was not complete. Only after repeated requests was it delivered. The food itself was disappointing. The portion sizes varied greatly. There was also a lack of craftsmanship: fish that was actually listed as grilled on the menu was only identified as fried - and therefore unnecessarily greasy - when asked at the service. For some pieces of meat the knives were barely sharp enough. Although the request for the menu to choose a dessert was still fulfilled, it took a good 30 minutes before a waitress could be persuaded to take the order. And then just a few minutes later she returned with the news that the kitchen was now closed. The boss later explained the situation as a misunderstanding, but dessert was then skipped. I have observed other guests experiencing similar inconveniences. The later apology and explanation that they had only recently taken over the business, overestimated their acceptance of events parallel to normal summer holiday operations and miscalculated the capacity utilization and staff deployment, sounded honest and plausible, but it doesn't help. It should be an invitation as a thank you. It was a disaster. I feel deeply embarrassed towards my guests. The ambience remains beautiful. Actually. However, if the tables are well occupied, it quickly becomes very loud in the dining room. Partly unbearable. But that was always the case. Tip: There are separate tables further up the front of the dining room. Here you will find a more pleasant atmosphere.

First of all, I have to say in advance it was pretty full when we came. However, guests outside received their food quicker than inside with a reservation. When I come for lunch I don't expect to get my food until 4 p.m. After exactly 3 HOURS we finally got our food except one person. All 7 people were finished and the food still wasn't there. The food itself was ok, but does that justify the price? As already mentioned in other reviews, we are here in Herne and not on Sylt. The service inexperienced. Orders for drinks slow. An apology was subsequently given and a discount was granted. We would have liked a little more communication at times regarding the waiting time for the food.

Fantastic, a well-known location in Herne under new management. I was there for the first time with a friend on a Friday evening and was immediately impressed by the friendliness of the new owner. The wine advice was suitable for the upcoming, plentiful and very tasty dishes. An all-round successful feel-good evening and we would be happy to come back. I will recommend this to friends and acquaintances with a clear conscience.

We ate there yesterday with 4 people. We ordered 4 different dishes which were brought to the table hot together after around 25 minutes. The food was very good, very tasty. The restaurant is very loud due to its design, which doesn't detract from the restaurant itself. There is also a large beer garden. The sanitary facilities can only be reached via stairs and are very clean. All in all it was a successful evening.

We have on April 30th. Reserved a table for 4 people for dinner. Since the weather was very nice, we decided to sit outside. The outdoor area was busy at this point - all tables were occupied. Ordering the drinks was a bit slow, but everyone received the drinks they ordered after a wait of about 10 minutes. Then it was time to order the food. The friendly employee informed us that the checkout system had been changed that day - and that it would therefore take a little longer to take the order. No problem, we were there to enjoy a cozy evening. Despite the high price of €16.90, we ordered a portion of bruchetta as a starter. As a main course, 2x fried chicken, Wiener schnitzel and a pork schnitzel (I can't remember the exact name). The good news first: Everything was well prepared and tasted delicious. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time and the dishes were not served together. This was justified by the introduction of the new cash register system. A fried chicken with a side dish cost €17.90, which is one euro more than the portion of bruchetta, which consisted of 3 baguette slices and, as expected, with tomato pieces, onions and grated cheese, spices and balsamic vinegar. As already written, it tasted good, but the calculation doesn't make sense to me. Here the chef should perhaps think again carefully about whether this is effective. Personally, I think the price is excessive. We're talking about a restaurant in Herne - not on Sylt or on the Kö. Sure, you don't have to order it, but it could have been an appetizer worthy of this price. Despite the difficulties caused by the new cash register system, the evening was lovely.

Went there last Sunday for coffee and cake. First we were served the cake and then we were served a brownish colored water as coffee. After complaining to the waiter, the boss himself explained to us that this was fresh coffee and that he himself drank 5 cups of it every day. There were also complaints about the coffee at the neighboring table. We then got another “coffee”, this one was just like the first. The boss then took this back with him. The friendliness was limited. After we ate the Black Forest cake (which was also at least from the previous day) (without coffee), we asked for the bill. There was no charge for the coffee, we paid €6.80 each for the Black Forest cake. We definitely won't be coming back.

The ambience is still cozy and rustic, but has been modernized with great sensitivity. You can immediately feel that there is passion behind this. The service was warm and attentive - you immediately feel welcome. A lot has changed in terms of cuisine: the new menu combines down-to-earth classics with fresh ideas and a touch of Austria. We would particularly like to highlight the Wiener Schnitzel – golden brown, wonderfully crispy and traditionally served with cranberries. A real highlight that charmingly underlines the Austrian touch of the house. The rest of the menu also impresses with regional ingredients and fair prices. It's nice to see how the Forsthaus develops its own style under new management without losing its character. A real insider tip for everyone who appreciates good food in a relaxed atmosphere - we will definitely be back!

We were at the forester's lodge on Easter Sunday and wanted to have coffee. But when I saw that 1 piece of cake alone cost €7.50, I declined. I think it's pretty outrageous to present us with such prices. The coffee then came at €2.90 for a thimble. So that's usury. Who else should be able to afford that? I praise the waffle on the train and the ice cream on the wagon. Going to the forester's lodge again? No thanks, not with the prices.

The four of us ate at the Forsthaus over Easter: - Waiter spilled a drink (can happen) - Schnitzel good to very good - Gnocchi with mushrooms good to very good - Asparagus risotto satisfying Reordered mayonnaise was not delivered. Payment by credit card 💳 not possible. Noise level in the restaurant - very loud

Had dinner there yesterday. Good Friday, we had chosen fish platter. It was very tasty, with fresh salad on the side. The menu also included a bakery. I might try this next time.

We were at the forester's lodge again on Saturday and sat outside in the best weather. We weren't aware of the change in ownership beforehand, but it came as a pleasant surprise. Both the restaurant manager and the new owner introduced themselves to us and took a lot of time. We were also allowed to taste wines before we finally ordered them. Originally we just wanted something to drink, but we ended up ordering something to eat. Rabbit liver and sirloin medallions landed on our table and tasted great. Even the side salad was a hit. Our visit was rounded off by excellent service. We felt welcome and will definitely be back very soon. Thank you for this lovely afternoon.

Beautifully located restaurant in a park, with wooden furniture and a canopy outside. The cake was good, but the runny whipped cream was disappointing. A nice place, also for children, but it's best to bring some time, as it takes a while.

Today we were at the forester's lodge again. Today I invited some relatives to celebrate my birthday. What I didn't know: There's been a new tenant for a few days. My husband ordered a dish from the bulletin board in the entryway. When we had already had all of our dishes, the waitress told my husband that the dish he had ordered was unfortunately out. So he should wait again. He then said he was taking the dish home. His previously ordered dish was still on the noticeboard 15 minutes later. When we opened his Chicken Supreme here at home, offered by the service staff, it was pure rubbish. There were still remains of feathers on the chicken wing. The vine tomatoes were completely overcooked (don't they just add them at the end?), and large tomatoes were added in between. Even in risotto you should still be able to tell what's in it, it should be al dente and, above all, it should look and taste appetizing. Maybe it wasn't a takeaway dish. You could have said that. The vine tomatoes in my pasta with fish were also completely overcooked and the sauce was thick and mushy. I can only speak about us. The rest (Forsthausschnitzel) is great chip shop class. For the children, some fries and three chicken McNuggets. Never seen so little on a children's plate. All in all, we didn't like it anymore. Everyone takes time, I hope it gets better. We're not coming anymore.

Ate at the forester's house today with 5 people. All extra requests were fulfilled. All dishes are top quality. Portions more than sufficient. Big compliment to the service force.

There were four of us and wanted to have lunch at the forester's lodge. It was only moderately attended there. Everyone ordered their food, 3 people were served their food. The missing portion was asked twice. When everyone had finished eating, the staff noticed: We forgot the fourth portion. After this mistake, the service was pushy and unprofessional. Never again.

I went to this restaurant for my mother's 60th birthday. We had reserved the winter garden for around 30 people to celebrate the day properly. Unfortunately, it turned out that the owner had given this room to another company despite previous agreements. The only alternative we had was the narrow and dark attic space. However, the behavior of the owner was even more disappointing than the spatial situation. Instead of finding a solution, we were told in no uncertain terms to either accept the room or leave the restaurant. The behavior was unprofessional and anything but customer oriented. What should be highlighted positively, however, is the service staff, who were friendly and attentive and tried to ensure our well-being. The food was OK. However, the last guest received his meal when half of them had already finished eating. The timing was bad. Based on the experience with the owner, I will not eat here again.

We were there for a special occasion. We rented a hall for this purpose months in advance. We were denied access to the hall on site due to a “double booking”. We were personally greeted by the boss with the statement “Yes, what? What should I do now?” fobbed off and sent to a stuffy attic that was far too small. The food was grossly overpriced and tasted OK! Every amateur cook can do it at least exactly the same way. The service staff, on the other hand, was very friendly and quick.

Waren zu einer großen Geburtstagsfeier eingeladen, so wie immer freuten wir uns auf einen tollen gelungenen Abend mit einem schönen Essen mit Freunden. Leider wurden wir schon bei der Ankunft enttäuscht so was habe ich noch nie erlebt , bei der Ankunft wurde die Tische erst mal eine halbe Stunde passend hin und her gerückt, weil man wohl auf die Feier nicht vorbereitet war. Der Raum in der oberen Etage Dachgeschoss war wohl zu klein für all die Gäste. Wie ich vom Gastgeber im Nachhinein erfuhr wurde wohl im Vorfeld ein ganz anderer Bereich im unteren Lokal gebucht. Dieser war aber durch eine andere Feier schon besetzt ,obwohl man Ihm den für diesen Tag zugesagt hat. Zu dem Essen : wir hatten die Forsthaus Pfanne , das Fleisch war reichhaltig aber das Schweinefilet Tod gebraten und der Rinderücken zäh und ungenießbar. Das bei so einem Preis , da haben wir zumindest ordentlich gebratenes Fleisch erwartet in einer entsprechenden Qualität. Wir waren zum ersten mal im Forsthaus Gysenberg, würden es aber so nicht wieder besuchen.

Wir haben leider eine sehr schlechte Erfahrung machen müssen. Aufgrund eines besonderen Anlasses wurde ein Saal gemietet. Dieser stand uns dann aufgrund einer "Doppelbuchung" nicht mehr zur Verfügung. Mit der Aussage "ja und? Was soll ich jetzt machen?" wurde man vom CHEF! abgespeist. Sehr sehr unfreundlich, arrogant und 0,0 einsichtig. Schlechter geht es nicht! Speisen überteuert und maximal OK!! vom Geschmack. Jeder Hobbykoch bekommt es mindestens genauso hin. Das Service Personal hingegen war sehr gut, schnell und äußerst freundlich.

I was recently invited to a party at this restaurant. Normally you should only award points for the service staff, as the local management is simply incompetent and doesn't even know the basics of scheduling appointments. A double booking of the booked rooms, intentionally or unintentionally ??, was dismissed as normal and you were put with around 30 people in a room for around 20 people!!!. The local management is simply embarrassing in their behavior. The food didn't correspond to the price/performance ratio and was only nicely described on the menu. Only the service staff tried to save the precarious situation. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, as this restaurant lacks the basics of proper gastronomy. It's just enough for a glass of beer after a walk in the park!!!.

ohhhh my god!! What can I say, the food was just ok. The kitchen should take courses.... The secret weapon here is truffle oil... but only on the menu!! Service staff TOP TOP. Ambiance ok.

I promised myself more of this!!! We were invited to a birthday party with friends and were unfortunately very disappointed when we arrived at the Forsthaus Gysenberg. All the guests were standing outside the door because the rooms had been rented twice, so we and many other guests had to move into a room that was far too small and where nothing was prepared!!! Something like this should never happen in a professional catering industry!! So the celebration was already over before it even started!!! The food was mediocre and the service was good!!! Nevertheless, I wouldn't want to celebrate there anymore!!!

We were invited to a 60th birthday party. When we arrived we were told that the rented room was taken and Macn would like to apologize for the mistake. THE ROOM WAS BOOKED AND CONFIRMED 3 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS DATE. EVEN AFTER INQUIRY A FEW DAYS BEFORE, THE DATE WAS CONFIRMED. Now there were about 30 people standing in front of the restaurant... and now??? We were then offered a dining room that was much too small to eat and celebrate. The room was far (much) too small for so many invited guests. And there was an incredible warmth in that room. This room then had to be rearranged. Tables and chairs were moved back and forth twice. The boss paid ZERO attention to us guests. Only the very nice staff cared and tried to save what could be saved. There was no apology or anything like that. They then simply brought us 20 beers, even though they hadn't been ordered. Understandably, around 30 people had to wait a long time for their food. Namely 1.5 hours!!! haha....The price-performance ratio is not acceptable in my opinion. Starter platter for €26.50 (2 dates, 1 piece of cheese 2x2 cm small, 4 slices of raw ham, 2 shrimps and 4 leaves of lettuce). Respect!!! Nice margin on this record. Some people had a three-way meat platter. We agreed...the meat was fried to death. The goose legs were also a disaster. When we asked if there was non-alcoholic wine or Hugo, they laughed at us with a clear no. To be honest...that's not how I remembered this forester's lodge in Gysenberg. And, we and certainly many of these guests will never come to eat here again! Never again !!! I'm very sorry for the birthday girl...she didn't deserve something like that!!!

Wir hatten vor 2 Monaten einen bestimmten Raum angemietet, haben uns diesen Raum vor 3 Wochen nochmals bestätigten lassen . Als wir am Geburtstag anreisten war dieser Raum allerdings belegt!! Wir wurden dann mit 30 Leuten auf den Dachboden gequetscht!!! Chef total unfreundlich. Personal freundlich. Getränke kamen schnell. Essen nichts besonderes, war den Preis (bei allen Gerichten) aber nicht wert. Wir würden keine zweite Veranstaltung dort machen. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Delicious!! After visiting Gysenberg with 2 children, we felt like ice cream and waffles and the moms also had bruscetta and a salad! We were very satisfied and would like to come back.

Not what it used to be! Disappointment.

Some of the food was good. The taste is completely okay to good. A steak in the "Forsthaus pan" was more well done and dry than medium rare. A gnocchi dish was completely over salted. The starters were completely forgotten. We had been waiting for the first drinks for what felt like an eternity. There was no time at all to ask if anyone else would like something to drink. Neighboring tables also asked whether they had been forgotten and another neighboring table received completely the wrong food. Rarely have I experienced so much incompetence.

Das Essen war viel, schmeckte aber nicht. Dafür war es überteuert. Hier scheint kein Gefühl for Realität zu bestehen. Alles ist sehr teuer. Der Nachtisch war eine Katastrophe. Nur Fett. Kein Geschmack

The food is still great as always, but I have to say a few critical words about the service and the service in general. The service was very hectic, uncoordinated and forgot half of the food or served it incorrectly even when spoken to several times. In addition, my non-alcoholic wheat was served to me completely warm. After I reported this to the waitress, I was told that the refrigeration system was broken. That's not a problem at all, but why don't they tell me this beforehand instead of giving me a warm beer? In addition, the waitress ended up completely confusing the bill and gave us a different price five times. It's not the first time something like this has happened here recently. If things don't improve, you'll unfortunately have to look for other restaurants in the future because you won't feel good, even though the food is really tasty. Too bad!

After a long time I visited the forester's lodge again...Why did I wait so long??? The waiter was VERY nice and my salad was TOP. There are portions here that are worth the money. Just under €18 for this delicious salad with a lot of meat. We'd love to come back and I'll have positive memories of something like that. I'd rather pay a € more but I'll be full. As a starter, a little greeting from the kitchen, there was bread and herb cream. The only small minimarkel... apple juice can also be added to the apple spritzer. Otherwise everything was great and we would like to come back....p.s. Next time I'll ask if I can get the goat cheese from the other salad on the Forsthaus salad🤪🥰🤔

We had a delicious meal outside! It's super comfortable there too and the view of the woods is priceless. It's hard to believe that you're not somewhere in Sauerland or Bavaria! Conclusion: Highly recommended! Tip: If you are easily bitten by mosquitoes, you should prepare/protect yourself accordingly! Really beautifully located. Unfortunately that was it. The service is always just bad. It's the same with food as with service. Unfortunately I can't recommend you any further. And I've actually been to your place many times, I've given the beautiful atmosphere several chances.

The price of €5.50 for a small piece of thawed apple pie with cream is a disgrace! Latte macchiato for €4.60 the same!

The most beautiful beer garden in the Ruhr area with excellent cuisine. Very tasty changing dishes, also for fans of Mediterranean and unusual cuisine. No matter whether it's starters, salads, fish, meat or vegetarian dishes, everything tastes excellent. Likewise the cakes and coffee specialties. The forester's house is located adjacent to Gysenberg Park and is in the middle of the forest. Pure nature with a very idyllic half-timbered ambience and birdsong included. Great service from the friendly Forsthaus team including the boss.

First the positive: The location is very attractive and the staff is very nice. That was it then. If you want to stop at the forester's lodge, you'd better bring money with you. Since the menu is very small, it's not easy to find what you're looking for. I ordered a schnitzel in pepper sauce. On Saturday night it always takes a little longer to get your food served, but almost two hours? And then - there wasn't particularly much on the plate. And I also remembered pepper sauce differently. However, it was tasty, but the price was clearly too high. As are the drink prices. For 0.5 liters of amber, €5.70 isn't exactly a small amount. All in all, ME was a bit disappointed and I wasn't the only one. Update: You can dispute such a review on Google and request that it be deleted. But you could also consider whether you as a provider could actually do something better.

We had our small wedding celebration there almost a year ago. And we are still very happy today that we did it there. The guests and we felt very well looked after there and the food was very good. The tables were beautifully decorated, the staff was very friendly, especially the waitress (unfortunately I don't know her name). We would love to come back 😊

A really quaint and long-established restaurant with top food and a really nice ambience. The surrounding area, the Gysenberg, is also beautiful and invites you to take a walk. The menu is home-style, but of a very high standard, which is reflected in the prices. However, I can highly recommend a visit!

TOP location where price and performance are right. Pleasantly cool under the trees when the temperatures are warm. Great beer garden and good tasteful food.

It used to be better than it is today. We have 4! We ordered Forsthaus pans and in all four dishes the beef was so unpalatable that we didn't eat it and couldn't. The fried potatoes were floury and poorly seasoned. The service and the ambience were nice there, the (men's) toilets look good, but they don't smell good due to the infrequent flushing.

Price/performance is not right at all. For a small vegan burger (really small) with fries WITHOUT salad over 18 euros, that's not possible!

My wife and I ate at the Forsthaus again today, the asparagus dish with triplets and steak was unique, super perfect cooking point of the asparagus, steak was the ideal medium point. In terms of taste, it was a feast. The service was quick and very accommodating and friendly. Finally, we had a lovely afternoon in the beer garden with Fahri and friends. We look forward to the next visit

In the heart of the Gysenberg forest, Herne, lies the charming Forsthaus Gysenberg, an old half-timbered house with a wonderful ambience. Our visit there was mostly enjoyable, even if not everything was perfect. 𝗗𝗮𝘀 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻 The selection of dishes was varied and appealing. Particularly noteworthy are: - 𝗛ä𝗵𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 "𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲" 𝗮𝘂𝗳 𝘃𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗿ü𝗻𝗲𝗺 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗺: The chicken breast was juicy and well seasoned, the risotto was creamy and perfectly rounded off with crunchy green asparagus. - 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲: We tried several variations: - With small potatoes (𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻), hollandaise, cooked ham and Serrano ham - With butter and small potatoes - With hollandaise, small potatoes and schnitzel While the side dishes were overall satisfactory, the asparagus was unfortunately not the star of the evening. Although I specifically requested it to be crunchy when I ordered it, it turned out to be far too soft. My first plate was even returned, and the replacement arrived within two minutes, suggesting that the asparagus probably came from the same pot. As a passionate asparagus eater, I personally didn't like the asparagus. In such a situation I would have liked a drink as an apology. 𝗚𝗲𝘁𝗿ä𝗻𝗸𝗲 Our drink selection included water, red wine and the local beers Fiege Bernstein and Fiege Schwarzbier. All drinks were at a good temperature and served to match the food. 𝗡𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵 As a crowning finale, we enjoyed a delicious meal Great value. The dessert was a delight: creamy, not too sweet and perfectly combined with the fruity sauce. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 Service was generally friendly, but there was a small downside. The boss's son who served us showed commitment, but interrupted us several times while we were talking. This was very disturbing because it caused us to lose track of the conversation and no longer be able to continue our conversation. In this day and age, it is commendable that such tasks are undertaken with commitment, but care should be taken not to disturb the guests. When paying the bill, I would have liked an ouzo on the house to compensate for the disappointing asparagus. As a thank you for our visit and as an incentive to come back, it would have been nice if each of us had received an ouzo as a gesture of hospitality. 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗸𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲 A minor inconvenience was the presentation of the asparagus menu, which was written on a large board on the wall. The writing was difficult to read and the letters were not clear. Better readability would have improved the dining experience. 𝗙𝗮𝘇𝗶𝘁 The Forsthaus Gysenberg impresses with its beautiful ambience and friendly atmosphere. The food was good, even if the asparagus didn't quite meet my expectations. The service could use some fine-tuning, especially when it comes to interrupting calls. Overall, however, our visit was a pleasant experience and we would like to come back, especially to enjoy the wonderful location and ambience again.

We held a wedding reception here and were completely satisfied. Good food, nice service and fair prices.

Update April 2024: Got a letter from the lawyer. I have to delete my review within 7 days or prove that I was really there. Another way to have so many positive reviews. Simply have all negative reviews deleted. From this we can draw some conclusions about the restaurant. So always rate it very well, no matter what it was like. Or be prepared to have a lawyer’s letter in your inbox after 4 years. Original from December 30, 2019 I ordered a goose leg with goose breast (with side dishes) for just under €27. When I ordered I was told that there would be no more breast, which was fine with me. Unfortunately, the leg was very low in meat and the skin was totally wobbly and tasted like it had been from the day before. I thought it was cheeky that I had to pay the full price for it even though I didn't receive everything. When I asked the waitress about it, I was told that other dishes that only included leg were also priced that way. But this is not true, dishes with just leg are €5 cheaper. The waitress then waived €5 after consultation.

The food was okay and the ambience was actually quite nice, but the service was poor! My family and I will think twice about coming here in the future!

Arrived by chance and haven't regretted it at all. Food, plentiful and very tasty, nice staff, reasonable prices, in my opinion, I'd love to come back. Nice big beer garden, must be wonderful in summer.

Ich habe noch NIE so einen schlimmen Service gesehen. Unfreundlich, Arrogant und Desinteressiert. Der ältere Herr im Außenbereich muss schnellsten ausgetauscht werden. Mein Getränk ist übrigens erst falsch gebracht worden und später garnicht mehr. Ambiente ist in Ordnung.

Today we went to the forester's lodge for the first time after a walk. We received a very friendly welcome with our two dogs. The food was so delicious! The portions were huge and the quality of the food was delicious! The rest was of course packed for us. Nowadays it has become rare to have such friendly service and to have such delicious and great food served quickly. We will remember the restaurant and recommend it to others. Thanks!

Wir (4 Personen/1 großer Hund) waren zu Silvester 2023/2024 dort. Alle waren begeistert, das Ambiente, der Service und natürlich das Menü war super. Trotz mehrerer Umbuchungen wegen der Personenzahl meinerseits hatten wir einen schönen Tisch, bei dem sogar unser großer Hund auch genügend Platz hatte. Silvester 2021/2022 waren wir auch schon dort (7 Personen/ 1 großer Hund), auch mit einem 5 Gänge Menü und da war auch alles zu unserer Zufriedenheit.

Great food, nice service. We were greeted warmly and escorted to the table. We had pasta dishes that were very tasty. We also decided on the Forsthaus pan. Terrific. I can only recommend. The absolute highlight was the dessert. Walnut ice cream, homemade, on a caramel surface. A dream. We'd love to come back.

Schönes Ambiente direkt am Gysenbergpark. Der Kuchen ist leider matschig gewesen und schmeckte aufgetaut, das gewünschte Hauptgericht war nur noch als eine Portion verfügbar. Der Service könnte freundlicher sein. Preis-Leistung gerade noch in Ordnung.

Went there for Christmas dinner on December 26th, 2023 and everyone enjoyed it very much. You didn't have to wait long for your food even though it was very busy and the staff was nice too. We will come back in any case.

Cozy atmosphere with good food and very nice hospitality from Adi. And: wishes are fulfilled here! Even the Pinocchio ice cream, which wasn't on the menu, was created especially for us and served promptly.
