Ephraims in Berlin

We had dinner here a few days ago and we liked it. When we arrived, it took a while to serve us, but after that, everything went smoothly. We ordered the Champignon Cocotte, a gratin of mushrooms, chicken, and cream, and the Gebackener Camembert, baked Camembert cheese accompanied by jam, bread, and salad. We liked both. Reasonable prices and a pleasant atmosphere by the river.

It was a trifecta of food, service, and location. We had the 3-course Schnitzel meal that included a tomato mozzarella soup starter, one of three kinds of schnitzel and an apple strudel dessert. All were delicious. Our waiter Yaroslav was friendly, helpful, and professional. The location on the River Spree was the perfect setting for the perfect meal.

The place is nice, the atmosphere is nice, but the service is very bad. There are no empty tables, but there is no waiter. If two waiters serve this crowd, there will be no service.

I went here for my last dinner in Berlin. Lamb was really super tasty and even the White german wine we had surprised me, it was really as good as our italian wines. The staff was nice and kind and prices were correct. Greetings from Florence :)

Very slow service, average food

A nice restaurant on the riverbank, with German specialties, friendly service and good food. The strudel is very good, maybe one of the tastiest!

The place is very clean and has a unique decor, reminiscent of an old house from the 1970s. The bathrooms are spotless, with toilet paper, soap, and a full-length mirror. The coffees were very good, and the apple strudels are good value. The best thing about the place are the waiters. We were served by a super-friendly young man. There was also an equally polite waitress. Both are great workers who do their best to understand what you're saying. Congratulations.

Terrible experience, can't rate the food as we ended up leaving. My wife, daughter and I thought the place looked lovely. The waiter we spoke to was really grumpy, we had asked to have a table in the middle of the outdoor space. He advised the tables were booked but showed us to a table on the edge. He basically threw the menus on tge table then went away. We sat looking at the menu but after what seemed like an eternity, no objection appeared to take an order - not even for a drink. In the end we just got up and went elsewhere. So much for hospitality!!!

Just touched down in Berlin and googled for a decent breakfast/lunch, and was not disappointed! When walking in, it felt like we were in a top end restaurant during the 50s, very old fashioned but in a beautiful way! The food was excellent... I've had Schnitzels all over London, but can finally say I've had a proper German Schnitzel! Service was top class and desserts to die for... will be back!

Discovered by chance. The welcome and service are very friendly. The food is good, and when the weather is nice, you can sit by the Spree. Highly recommended!!! 😃

It feels like having lunch at grandma's house, with antique furnishings, typical German cuisine.

The service in the restaurant was truly disastrous. Why do I have to wait while the waitresses calculate in their heads how much change I'll get? They shouldn't hire people like that. I asked several times for the food to be brought more quickly, but it didn't help. In the end, the food was cold. And please stop using unfresh lettuce and tomatoes in the dishes! The atmosphere was extremely tense, and you could feel it everywhere. I was completely ignored. The service is disgraceful. The food isn't cheap; they really should make more of an effort. I can't recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Beautifully located on the Spree River, discovered purely by chance. The food is homely. Definitely a lovely location.

The atmosphere is really unique. Quiet, romantic setting but also good for groups. A lot of reference to the history of the place which is really interesting. Food was very good, very traditional and filling.

Very beautiful and tasty place. The dishes were great, especially the strudel. It was one of the best I've tried. The waiters speak Russian too. The place is atmospheric. We took a table outside. Next time we'll eat inside. It's worth planning your walking route through this restaurant. I recommend it 👍

The schnitzel came with just a tablespoon of fried potatoes. The small salad I ordered separately was more or less mediocre. There was no dressing to be found. Just blobs of balsamic vinegar. But the service was really bad. Two young women and one young man were serving outside. The youngest woman was the only one who was really nice and friendly. Dark hair, ponytail, about 19 years old. Thank you very much. The rest of the food wouldn't make you want to return.

We were just out for a relaxed Sunday evening stroll, not looking for anything major — just a decent bite before calling it a day. From the bridge, we spotted this cozy little place right by the water and were immediately drawn in by the menu, especially the solid vegetarian options. That alone felt like a good sign — and it was. My partner went for the celery schnitzel, and it turned out to be a total win: flavorful, well-balanced, and — most importantly — not one of those lazy, thrown-together “token veggie” dishes. You could actually tell someone gave a damn. I went for the big salad plate with chicken and homemade cocktail sauce — simple, tasty, just right. We shared a small plate of pickled cucumbers with pork lard on the side, which added a rustic note to the whole experience. The service? Friendly, low-key, and exactly how it should be. With the salad, the schnitzel, the shared starter, one big bottle of water, and a small beer, we hit exactly €50 including tip — and that’s smack in the heart of Berlin-Mitte. Fair price for a solid dinner. The rest of the menu had plenty of regional classics too — this is the kind of place you can come back to regularly when you’re in the mood for tradition done right.

We were not that fortunate as other clients who were served by Ali and whose reviews we've just read. Our experience with the restaurant was quite mediocre, but the reason that we have decided to leave the review is to warn about the waitress (wearing glasses) who was literally demanding and almost pressuring us to leave her tips. I noticed her tactics with the other couple sitting in front of us when she was withholding giving them the change asking them directly "how much should I give you back?" holding the banknote she received from them and obviously making the lady-client very uncomfortable. It's not how it works. The client decides how much tips they are willing to leave. I paid with card and she asked 'how much should I charge?" and I suggested according to the bill and she "Oh, you probably don't understand" and went on explaining how I should consider tips. That left very unpleasant after-taste. Pun intended. The view was beautiful though.

Had the most wonderful evening. The food was delicious . . The staff were lovely too, in particular, the waiter who looked after us called Ali. He was so friendly and helpful !! The prices were so reasonable too. I would highly recommend. We will definitely go again.

My wife and I had dinner here last night. We both had goulash and sausage platter - very tasty. We had a bottle of Resiling with the meal. We'd prebooked but the restaurant was quiet when we arrived so the waiter offered us the choice of tables, including an outside table (luckily we opted for inside because it rained heavily within minutes of us sitting down!). I thought the meal was fair value for money, good portions - our choices were their most commonly selected items I'd say. We would go again.

During my stay in Berlin I had dinner at restaurant Ephraims, and it was a very successful experience. The restaurant is in an excellent location, atmospheric and central, which immediately gave a good impression. The service was excellent: friendly staff who serve with a sincere smile. You feel welcome and seen, something I really appreciate. The food was exactly what I had hoped for. I chose a classic German meal: sauerkraut with fried potatoes and sausage assortment – ​​tasty and served at the right temperature. The schnitzel was also of good quality: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Everything was freshly prepared and well seasoned. In short, a nice place to enjoy traditional German dishes with top service. I will definitely come back here!

Mediocre restaurant with poor service. I ordered veal goulash and was served what looked like a mess of leftovers. There was even a piece of meat with veins in this ragu, which had little to no cream. My brother ordered dessert, which never arrived, but the seemingly unmotivated service staff tried to charge for it. I can't understand the high ratings at all.

Very tasty food. Liver, veal, strudel, author's ice cream - feast for the stomach! The location and atmosphere are top five. I have been there many times and I recommend it to you!

Never again – the culinary equivalent of a slow-motion traffic accident! You enter the restaurant and immediately feel welcome... if you like the morbid charm of a train station restaurant from 1983. The schnitzel? A sad cardboard lid covered in breadcrumbs - probably from the freezer of a discount store that has already given up on itself. The taste is somewhere between damp wallpaper and printer paper, as tough as a tax form and just as lovingly prepared. In addition, there is an atmosphere as if someone had tried to stage the “Cosy Inn” with decorations from the rest area - unfortunately with the aesthetic sensitivity of a dental assistant company outing to Bad Salzungen. The service? Nice, but resigned – like an entertainer on the last working day of the season. Everything seems like a tourist trap on autopilot, built for people who are giddy about eating ketchup. In short: Anyone who eats here has either lost all hope or still believes in the good in people - but will regret both. A shame for money, time and taste buds.

Cozy restaurant with a nice ambience. The food was actually good. Despite increased demand, however, it turned out that the pike-perch fillet is not gluten-free as initially claimed, but that “there may be a bit of flour here”. The restaurant offered to remake the food, apologized several times and gave a discount at the end. Unfortunately, the staff didn't seem to know their way around well. As for allergens.

Very nice atmosphere and nice service. However, the food is not really worth it, e.g. The Wiener Schnitzel is a frozen product, and at that price I expect it to be freshly prepared. I can also eat frozen goods at home. During our visit there was only cash payment.

Very nice cafe, highly recommended. Overall only 4 stars because it was a bit difficult to make the reservation. We initially wanted to arrange a short meeting for 6 people after many years. When everything was clear and we increased it to 8 people, we were told that you couldn't make a reservation for 8 people. It's a shame... We were there anyway, all 8 of us found a nice place and the young man behind the counter was very, very nice, the coffee and cake were very tasty and fresh... and everyone was happy. :-)

Nice and particular place, for those who like the genre. A cross between a living room and a stube. Very friendly staff but at dinner, there weren't even paper placemats and the cutlery was placed on the bare table. We ordered goulash and beef roulade, tasty but the dishes arrived cold and the red cabbage remained on everyone's stomachs all night. I think it needs more attention.

Very picturesque place located in the old part of the city, very close to the church of San Nicolás. Homemade rustic style decoration. You find typical German food very well prepared and at a reasonable price compared to the rest of the city. The service is very friendly, although they don't speak Spanish they try hard to understand.

Quiet and romantic place on the banks of the Spreed River. Old 1930s-style German cafeteria. Ideal place to have a good lunch, dinner or snack. The knuckle with potatoes and the goulash and potato soups are very good. Price appropriate to quantities. Very happy with the result.

We ordered a schnitzel, a pork knuckle and a mix of sausages, everything was good, I wish the skin on the knuckle was crispier. The place seems to be frequented by both locals and tourists. Came in on a Saturday evening in January. Food was traditional German and amazing. Very much recommended. I had the beef roulade with red cabbage felt Christmassy and was delicious. Atmosphere was a little flat as very quiet but don't let that put you off. Food totally worth it.

Ephraim's restaurant in the heart of Berlin If you, like me, are a fan of gastronomy and delicious Food, start your acquaintance and love for German cuisine with Ephraim’s restaurant. Despite its popularity and constant congestion (it’s better to book in advance), its prices are very reasonable. They are kept for local residents. Like many places in the restaurant are reserved for certain days and times for families who come here, I'm not afraid of this meaning - for centuries... I recommend that you try every dish from the large menu of Ephraim’s restaurant - because each of them is a gastronomic historical and cultural fact. Many of these dishes are no longer prepared anywhere. And only after trying them here can you say that you tried the version closest to the original. And already compare it with other options. And here you can sit quietly, comfortably and absolutely happily in a corner at a table, with a glass of beer, wine or a cup of good coffee, and watch... the river of time and human lives. People, faces, destinies, years, eras will change before you, and this old, very old German house in the very heart of Berlin will remain the center, the point where all this intersects - for a minute, for an hour, for breakfast, lunch or dinner ... Welcome to Ephraim's and Bon appetit.

Typically local food. Very nice riverside location. Medium-low prices for the area. We eat well. There is also a piano inside the venue. I went back there twice in my stay. Advised.

WARNING, DON'T GO! We had an ok dinner at Ephraims on new years day. The two male waiters working then were nice and gave us good service. The food (soups as starters and sausage-plates as mains) was not very good (we thought probably prefabricated) but ok. All in all an ok experience, but not much more. Two days later we couldn't decide where to go for dinner and after a day of sightseeing we decided that an ok dinner would be enough so we chose Ephraims again. That was a big mistake. The waitress working that evening seemed totally uninterested in having guests at the restaurant. After a long wait we ordered starters and mains. The starters (baked camembert and ravioli) came quickly and were obviosly prefabricated, straight from the freezer or can, and tasted from bad to nothing. But we wanted to have a nice evening so we decided to just let it be and eat it anyway. Not even half way in to our starters the waitress came with our mains and placed the plates on the table beside our starters and walked away. We were startled and didn't know what to do. By that time there were no other guests left in the restaurant (the waitress had turned away several people wanting to come in although it was just around 20 o'clock on a friday). We should have just walked away but we didn't want to make a scene so we put our starter plates on another table and ate some of our mains (chicken and schnitzel), also prefabricated straight from the freezer. We had nothing to drink and therefore had to walk to the kitchen ourselves and call for the waitress. After that the waitress was very quick to leave the check on our table. We just wanted to leave, we felt very uncomfortable, so we payed and then left. The whole experience was awful and terrible. The owner and staff, at least those working that day, should be ashamed of themselves. We wish no one to experience something like this and very strongly advice everyone to avoid Ephraims at any cost. This place should be closed before ripping more people off.

Easily one of my new favourites in Berlin. Nice menu: not too big, not too small. All we've tried was very tasty indeed, and the waiters are nice people. Very pleasant experience.

The food is fine, not terrible but not amazing either. Service was slow but we didn't mind since we weren't in a rush. Well, at the end of our meal, the waitress demanded payment in cash even though they have a working card reader. We complied to make her happy, but even paying in cash, she was still upset. We tipped her 5% and she got angry because she wanted 10%. With that kind of childish behavior, we should have taken back the unappreciated 5% tip and left her nothing. We work hard for our money too and can decide what amount of tip we want to give. We have dined at several other restaurants in Berlin and the waiters and waitresses were always super appreciative and thanked us for the tip we gave them. It's a shame this cute little place doesn't have that kind of professionalism.

Good restaurant with typical cuisine located in the Mitte area, a stone's throw from the Spree River. The interior is very particular: it feels like entering a grandmother's house, with all the furnishings and ornaments that create a welcoming atmosphere. The food is good: we liked everything we tasted. Particular praise for the goulash and apple pie. We also tried the trout, good but not exceptional. The service is normal, without any particular note of merit or criticism. The only thing that left us perplexed was the request to pay in cash, perhaps due to the fact that we had asked to split the bill in two. In summer there is the possibility of eating outdoors.

Fantastic food and service. We ate the Prok Knucle, Schnitzel, Goose leg (winter special), Soup, and Lamb shank. All of the food was great, as was the service. The staff were really friendly and very helpful.
