Wonderful German cuisine. You can try it without hesitation.

Decent food, honest bill. Very welcoming and refined environment. Upon arrival they told us that their POS terminal was not working that day, and therefore they only accepted cash. I read in other reviews that this happened to other users too…

Very nice cafe, highly recommended. Overall only 4 stars because it was a bit difficult to make the reservation. We initially wanted to arrange a short meeting for 6 people after many years. When everything was clear and we increased it to 8 people, we were told that you couldn't make a reservation for 8 people. It's a shame... We were there anyway, all 8 of us found a nice place and the young man behind the counter was very, very nice, the coffee and cake were very tasty and fresh... and everyone was happy. :-)

Nice and particular place, for those who like the genre. A cross between a living room and a stube. Very friendly staff but at dinner, there weren't even paper placemats and the cutlery was placed on the bare table. We ordered goulash and beef roulade, tasty but the dishes arrived cold and the red cabbage remained on everyone's stomachs all night. I think it needs more attention.

Intimate place, good service and exceptional food.

Very picturesque place located in the old part of the city, very close to the church of San Nicolás. Homemade rustic style decoration. You find typical German food very well prepared and at a reasonable price compared to the rest of the city. The service is very friendly, although they don't speak Spanish they try hard to understand.

A nice cozy atmosphere. You can eat very well. And you almost feel at home. Just try.

Came for a casual drink and enjoyed the draft beer. Didn't eat but the food smelled delicious. Lovely cosy restaurant by the river - we came on a cold day but I imagine a warm evening would be a beautiful place to sit outside. Quite unique decor inside but very comfortable. Quiet and romantic place on the banks of the Spreed River. Old 1930s-style German cafeteria. Ideal place to have a good lunch, dinner or snack. The knuckle with potatoes and the goulash and potato soups are very good. Price appropriate to quantities. Very happy with the result.

We loved this excellent restaurant that was close to our hotel. The pork knuckle is cooked, unlike most restaurants that serve it roasted, I personally thought it was cooked better. We will definitely return on our next visit. Fair price!

I don't know if typical restaurants are like this, but when you walk in, it feels like you're in someone's dining room. We ordered a schnitzel, a pork knuckle and a mix of sausages, everything was good, I wish the skin on the knuckle was crispier. The place seems to be frequented by both locals and tourists. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Beautiful traditional and quiet location with a living room flair. We had pork knuckle and red jelly. Dishes that you rarely get anymore. Without chi chi but to the point. Great. Came in on a Saturday evening in January. Food was traditional German and amazing. Very much recommended. I had the beef roulade with red cabbage felt Christmassy and was delicious. Atmosphere was a little flat as very quiet but don't let that put you off. Food totally worth it.

Despite its popularity and constant congestion (it’s better to book in advance), its prices are very reasonable. They are kept for local residents. Like many places in the restaurant are reserved for certain days and times for families who come here, I'm not afraid of this meaning - for centuries... I recommend that you try every dish from the large menu of Ephraim’s restaurant - because each of them is a gastronomic historical and cultural fact. Many of these dishes are no longer prepared anywhere. And only after trying them here can you say that you tried the version closest to the original. And already compare it with other options. And here you can sit quietly, comfortably and absolutely happily in a corner at a table, with a glass of beer, wine or a cup of good coffee, and watch... the river of time and human lives. People, faces, destinies, years, eras will change before you, and this old, very old German house in the very heart of Berlin will remain the center, the point where all this intersects - for a minute, for an hour, for breakfast, lunch or dinner ... Typically local food. Very nice riverside location. Medium-low prices for the area. We eat well. There is also a piano inside the venue. I went back there twice in my stay. Advised.

WARNING, DON'T GO! We had an ok dinner at Ephraims on new years day. The two male waiters working then were nice and gave us good service. The food (soups as starters and sausage-plates as mains) was not very good (we thought probably prefabricated) but ok. All in all an ok experience, but not much more. Two days later we couldn't decide where to go for dinner and after a day of sightseeing we decided that an ok dinner would be enough so we chose Ephraims again. That was a big mistake. The waitress working that evening seemed totally uninterested in having guests at the restaurant. After a long wait we ordered starters and mains. The starters (baked camembert and ravioli) came quickly and were obviosly prefabricated, straight from the freezer or can, and tasted from bad to nothing. But we wanted to have a nice evening so we decided to just let it be and eat it anyway. Not even half way in to our starters the waitress came with our mains and placed the plates on the table beside our starters and walked away. We were startled and didn't know what to do. By that time there were no other guests left in the restaurant (the waitress had turned away several people wanting to come in although it was just around 20 o'clock on a friday). We should have just walked away but we didn't want to make a scene so we put our starter plates on another table and ate some of our mains (chicken and schnitzel), also prefabricated straight from the freezer. We had nothing to drink and therefore had to walk to the kitchen ourselves and call for the waitress. After that the waitress was very quick to leave the check on our table. We just wanted to leave, we felt very uncomfortable, so we payed and then left. The whole experience was awful and terrible. The owner and staff, at least those working that day, should be ashamed of themselves. We wish no one to experience something like this and very strongly advice everyone to avoid Ephraims at any cost. This place should be closed before ripping more people off.

Easily one of my new favourites in Berlin. Nice menu: not too big, not too small. All we've tried was very tasty indeed, and the waiters are nice people. Very pleasant experience.

The food is fine, not terrible but not amazing either. Service was slow but we didn't mind since we weren't in a rush. Well, at the end of our meal, the waitress demanded payment in cash even though they have a working card reader. We complied to make her happy, but even paying in cash, she was still upset. We tipped her 5% and she got angry because she wanted 10%. With that kind of childish behavior, we should have taken back the unappreciated 5% tip and left her nothing. We work hard for our money too and can decide what amount of tip we want to give. We have dined at several other restaurants in Berlin and the waiters and waitresses were always super appreciative and thanked us for the tip we gave them. It's a shame this cute little place doesn't have that kind of professionalism.

The food was great and very traditional. The atmosphere is super cozy. I highly recommend it.

Good restaurant with typical cuisine located in the Mitte area, a stone's throw from the Spree River. The interior is very particular: it feels like entering a grandmother's house, with all the furnishings and ornaments that create a welcoming atmosphere. The food is good: we liked everything we tasted. Particular praise for the goulash and apple pie. We also tried the trout, good but not exceptional. The service is normal, without any particular note of merit or criticism. The only thing that left us perplexed was the request to pay in cash, perhaps due to the fact that we had asked to split the bill in two. In summer there is the possibility of eating outdoors.

The food was good, but the waitress was very unfriendly for not leaving a 5% tip.

Such a bitter disappointment on Christmas Day! Service unprofessional and unsympathetic. Food disastrous to say the least. Definitely never again!

Lovely lamb shank .. my daughter in law had goose .. my husband and eldest son had pork knuckle and my middle son had pork schnitzel all delicious … lovely friendly staff .. good bubbly and the wine was rather nice … apple strudel was delicious we would definitely come again .. Fantastic food and service. We ate the Prok Knucle, Schnitzel, Goose leg (winter special), Soup, and Lamb shank. All of the food was great, as was the service. The staff were really friendly and very helpful.

Traditional dishes very well performed. The pumpkin-apple-ginger soup of the day was a delight. Definitely NOT the tourist trap.

We celebrated Christmas in the Ephraim Restaurant for the second time! Many thanks to the entire team for this lovely evening! Not easy for 16 people, the fireplace room is perfect for that! Friday December 13th, 2024 was a lucky day for us! Food and drink good, service very friendly and accommodating! What more could you want! Everyone was very happy! Next year again at Ephraim!

Very cozy and different restaurant. It looks like a house. It has living rooms with fireplace, a hall, and a bookstore. The food is typical German at appropriate prices with quality and quantity. It also has spectacular views. The workers are also very friendly professionals.

It was fun to eat here. The service was nice and courteous. The wine tasted good and the veal liver with mashed potatoes and onions with an apple ring was great.

We were there spontaneously for the first time yesterday. Despite the full house, we were welcomed and served quickly and in a very friendly manner. Value for money is hard to beat, we'll be happy to come back.

Upon entering you take a dive into a different era. Muffled atmosphere, warmth and scent of home, the charm of an early 20th century Berlin associated with domestic but attentive and tasty cuisine. Wide choice of dishes all from the Teutonic tradition. A pleasure for the spirit, eyes and palate!

I don't normally like eating German food, but eating here changed my mind. Delicious food, especially schnitzel Viennese style. Unfortunately, Gulash didn't taste that good. The staff was friendly too. I'd love to come back!

Very beautiful cozy interior, you have the impression of coming to eat at your grandmother's house. The food is good, but the service a little confusing. The young girl who served us was very stressed (new to the team?) but was very pleasant.

We found the restaurant because it was close to the hotel where we were staying and how delicious it was! Super cozy and traditional, we ended up going there twice in just three times in Berlin, I recommend it!!

Top service, top location, top cuisine!

We had reserved a table for four people. Apart from the fact that there was a tablecloth (turned inside out) on the table, nothing was prepared. The food was a long time coming. A schnapps was offered as compensation. The restaurant wasn't full, but it was incredibly loud.

One of the best meals was at this rustic German tavern. The ‘Berlin traditional pork knuckle Eisbein‘ was delicious and the sides paired were cooked well. Additional sides were palatable and timelessly traditional. The dessert that I had was succulent and homemade. The staff members were genuinely hospitable. The dining area interior is elevated from the street and comfortable.

Nice location on the Spree, the price for the cake/tart is unreasonable for the size of the piece. Service was friendly.

The ambience on the riverside terrace was absolutely lovely, as was the entire restaurant. Gorgeous view of the Spree. My husband raved about his sausage platter. My potato rosti with smoked salmon was delicious. Have to give 1 star to the service because while our male server was very kind and attentive , towards the end , the rude female server forcibly cleared our platesjust as we were finishing and "declared" that she thinks we need our bill. And then declares that it has to be cash . We had no issue paying in cash but the rudeness and tone of trying to rush us off was ridiculous. She only changed her tone when she realized we were put off and would not tip her. Want to reiterate that the sweet male server is very hospitable in contrast and if possible , please ask for him while dining . The female server needs to be trained or fired. This comes from someone who works in hospitality.

We saw them while passing by and went in. They welcomed us even though we didn't have a reservation. Chicken breast and Berlin style liver were delicious. The attention shown was excellent. They were very polite. The atmosphere was very nice. I recommend it to everyone 🌸

Rude rude rude! Made a reservation through the restaurant’s website, received a confirmation email but when we arrived two rude men said ‘we cancelled you’. I showed them the confirmation email and they just said ‘we cancelled you’. They basically took a bigger booking so our table of five was refused entry. So rude. Ended up going for a lovely meal at Brauhaus Georgbraeu which had a great atmosphere and was nice and lively - unlike Ephraim’s!!

My experience was terrible! We made a reservation through their website for 2 people and when we arrived they simply said that they couldn't find the reservation and that the restaurant was full. We asked how long it would take to free up a table and the waitress recommended that we look for another place nearby to have dinner. We weren't able to taste the food, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want good service.

Quite simply the best sauerkraut of my life. Nothing to do with what you can find in Alsace. Very pleasant place, service a little cold but cordial. Be careful, they don't take credit card (in 2024, really?)

Katrina , the waitress and very cordial person, helped me to choose my meal and drinks. The food was delicious ( eisben), and the drinks , my dark draft beer just a perfect match. At the end a warm apfelstrudel with ice cream . The cordial Aquavit. Perfect dinner by the river at night. Highly recommend to have dinner when in Berlin

Very antique furnishings! Visually great. You feel like you've been transported back 2 centuries! The food, roulade, was a bit sparingly sauced! Condition was attentive and the yeast was well contained! It was a bit noisy from the street outside in the “beer garden”, but it’s more comfortable inside anyway!

Disappointing experience. While the place is very atmospheric and the staff is nice, the dishes are lacking in taste. The pork knuckle was mostly fat and the lamb slightly dry. The desserts were re-heated including the pancakes. Also we were a bit pressured to pay in cash, while the machine did work in the end without any issues

Today is the last day of our stay in Berlin and once again we went to have dinner at this nice restaurant. Thanks to Yaroslav, who not only provides good service, but is also very friendly and pleasant to talk to. Ali served us for the first time, thanks to whom we wanted to return to this restaurant again.

The best days are long gone. Unfortunately, Essen is characterized by the fact that only through traffic is planned here. That means you don't have to try very hard.

Very characteristic restaurant on the riverfront in Berlin. The quality of the food is average, nothing too exceptional (we took the schnitzel, nothing special). The desserts, however, are good (the strudel is recommended). Pretty good prices. Too bad about the service, not very attentive. They didn't clear our table and the service was a bit absent.

Very small portions and tasteless food. . Long waiting time, despite empty seats inside, the staff said we had to stay outside. Prices do not match the quality.

Pretty darn tasty, and the atmosphere was lovely, as was the entire restaurant. Our server was friendly, attentive, and efficient, and he was very kind with our attempts to speak what little German we know. My husband raved about his sausage platter; my schnitzel was very good, but I'd just had one that blew my socks off the day before, so it was an unfortunate comparison. (The potatoes, however, were heavenly.) Absolutely gorgeous views of the Spree. Really a wonderful place to have a meal.

Food was not good at all, everyhing else was good

I didn’t mention that there was no ice, so I ordered a Coke at room temperature. It didn’t seem right to drink Gongla at room temperature on a night of over 30 degrees Celsius. I also asked for lemon slices to neutralize the sweetness. After waiting for a long time, the meal still didn’t come. It’s really bad that this restaurant requires a tip. The pig's feet are wet and different from those grilled in other places. Personally, I don't like them. Beef liver is not dry, but tasteless. It relies on the flavor of the sauce to support it. It is not greasy when paired with apples. It's a good restaurant for everyone, but everything I asked for didn't come. I won't come back with this kind of service.

Best food I have had during my 5 days in Berlin, and cheap price as well! Salad had very fresh vegetables, smoked salmon was wonderful, and presentation was pretty. Service 10/10; super helpful and friendly.

The terrace overlooking the Spree is magnificent. The Berlin atmosphere goes perfectly with the dishes served. I recommend the apple strudel for dessert!

The location on the Spree is of course great. The service was friendly and quick. However, there are compromises when it comes to food. The potato soup was good, as was the schnitzel. However, the fried potatoes were very soggy and the salad that was served with the meal was very little. The beer - I'm very picky about this - came to the table a little too warm.
