Sunday evening is not a good time to go to the sauna, but it's a perfect time to take yourself on a solo date, particularly in cold, dark November. At Donau101 There are twelve seats inside (I sat on an additional high stool at the bar), and with the warm lighting and the warmth of the oven, it's not hard to feel rather comfortable with each other. People ate fast and with enthusiasm, and seemed barely able to let the food sit before forking the steaming pies and mash and greens to their mouths. A guy at one table turned to ask the table behind what they ordered, they had all ordered "Der Klassiker", and nodded agreeably at their choice. I'm yet to grow out of hating peas, so I didn't take them. The lady here graciously removed them from the extras. The mash was buttery but not overly soft, with texture complemented by the bite of the Piccalilli. I would have liked more chicken in the pie filling, and I wanted the gravy to hit a little harder, but the pastry was gorgeous and indulgent. If I weren't writing this review, I would have felt very at ease simply to eat and to slowly think about things... (update, it seems the two tables actually know each other haha, still cute.)

Great food and nice outdoor seating!

The best food, service, and atmosphere I've ever experienced in Berlin, by far. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!
