Gorgeous little place with great variety of food and drinks, would recommend Mexican plate a bit of everything and lemonade was refreshing and tasty

Excellent food here with my family. After attempting my broken German, waitress smiled and asked in perfect English “would we like the English menus”. Such great service just wish my German was not so rubbish 😀. Highly recommend this restaurant

Not friendly service, the waiter didn't even look us in the eye, not even say hello. Disappointment on a Saturday evening but probably a bad time because the food was quite good.

There seems to be happy hour for cocktails all day long - it's nice for that. Otherwise, unfortunately not like it was during student times. The dishes cost at least €20, the salad simply had a ready-made sauce on top (at least that's how it seemed). Unfortunately, it doesn't taste like food in Mexico. Charging €6-8 for a bottle of water is quite sporty. It's a shame, the price-performance ratio is simply not right...

We have been to this restaurant twice now. The first time was fine. The second time we were very disappointed. The homemade lemonade costs 5 euros and 0.5 liters. Sounds great, but unfortunately it's just water with syrup. But nicely prepared. But 5 euros is simply too much for that. The starters were borderline. The Patatas Bravas were almost black and the dip didn't go well with them at all. The main courses were so-so. There was bacon on the burger, which didn't taste good. And the other dish had far too much salad, even though the description didn't say anything about a salad. In general, I find that a lot of finished products are used. Maybe keep the menu smaller and surprise and convince with one or two homemade things. The waiting time was too long. The service staff apologized for this. Generally the service staff was friendly.

First of all, the positive: the food is tasty and the outdoor area offers plenty of seating. The negative: the dishes are actually prepared simply (came after 3 minutes) and now cost over 20 euros across the board. El Gallo used to be more of a student shop, but today the prices have noticeably increased.

We ate very well, huge choice and super abundant dishes. We loved it, we recommend it.

Were there as a group of 9. Different dishes all hot and brought at the same time. Impressive in taste. Homemade guacamole, aioli and salsa. Very nice and courteous service. Overall, a very, very good Mexican restaurant and definitely worth a visit!

No. 46 on the menu was a delight and plentiful. Price-performance ratio is absolutely right. We'll be back, despite a lot of traffic in front of the door. So there is something to look at. 😉

Very nice Mexican restaurant. The menu is balanced. The dishes (except for the burgers) are delicious and the portions are generous. Unfortunately there are only a few vegetarian and vegan options. The drinks are highly recommended (cocktails well mixed). The prices are moderate. The staff is attentive, helpful and friendly. It's usually very crowded, so it's best to reserve in advance. The atmosphere is appealing, as is the ambience. Unfortunately, if you sit outside you will be disturbed by people passing by.

We had reserved for 6 people. It was then not possible to push the table together, even though there would have been enough space. I have never experienced something like that. But being alone indoors with the best tea was not an option for us. So we changed the restaurant. It's a shame because the restaurant was recommended to us.

El gallo is a very good restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a large selection of Mexican dishes at top prices. A large selection of cocktails are also available at reasonable prices. From our side there is a clear recommendation!

Average Mexican food, nicely prepared, at horrendous prices. The best thing was the dressing on the side salad. Service is just the minimum. Ambience okay, but nothing special.

An absolute overpriced failure! The soupa azteca (fiery tomato soup) tasted okay but was far too small for the price of ten euros! The absolute disappointment was the Quesadilla de pollo for an incredible €21.50 Any wheat tortilla from the supermarket tastes better than this tasteless cardboard box with very little filling and a little salad. The service was quite nice, otherwise I will definitely not visit this restaurant again!

Wir waren vor Jahren Gast in diesem Restaurant - und damals sehr zufrieden. Beim jetzigen Besuch muss ich leider sagen: mit 'mexikanisch' (oder TexMex) hatten die Vegi-Fajitas nichts zu tun! Fade; mit einer 'ital. Gewürzmischung' gewürzt - ne, da kommt keine Freude auf. Die Taco-Chips zur Vorspeise (12.50 EUR!) waren zwar eine RIESENportion, aber die Sauce war wohl aus einem Glas. Die Bedienung war nett-, hatte aber wohl ihren ersten Tag. Keine Ahnung von Service - nicht ihr Fehler; aber sie hätte richtig angelernt werden sollen. Das eine Gedeck ohne zu Fragen abräumen während die andere Partie noch am Essen ist (!) geht nicht. Preislich recht teuer - somit: Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis schlecht. Nicht so schnell wieder. Schade!

The food was way too expensive. Everything seemed prepared and warmed up. I used to love coming here but was very disappointed yesterday!!

Price/performance not appropriate. The salad was served on the piping hot main course plate. This was then warm. In addition, the salad was poorly washed and crunched. The chimichanga almost exclusively contained thick, large pieces of eggplant. Well I don't know... Most of the dishes cost over €20. Also the Chimichanga. It definitely wasn't worth it.

Locally does not consistently identify allergens. There was a burrito on a mixing plate, which had allergens identified as a dedicated dish and could not be recognized as such in the mixing plate. Burrito with vegetables consisted almost entirely of eggplant. Burrito with ground beef was dry. Unfortunately lettuce crunched (not washed well enough). Service quick but neutral. The food looks very tasty. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not right for the quality. Almost all dishes over €20.

Unfortunately the food is not worth the money. It's not inedible, but it's also very far from good. The service is quick, but not very personal (things are brought, put down and taken away without a word). The terrace has cheap but new plastic chairs and the same "Mexican rap" is playing on a loop outside.

20€ for a burger that you simply top with frozen patties from Aldi. A burger couldn't have tasted worse. The “Plato Mexicano” was also a disappointment… has nothing to do with Mexican food 👎🏼 The only positive thing was the friendliness of the service.

Wir haben das El Gallo am Anfang sehr gemocht, aber dies hat sehr abgenommen. Gegessen haben wir auch schon hier, es ist nichts besonderes mehr, weil das meiste Essen einfach nur lieblos an den Tisch gebracht wird. Deshalb finden wir den Service mittlerweile sehr fragwürdig und schlecht. Als wir uns hingesetzt haben, wurden uns wie jedem Tisch eine handvoll Nachos hingestellt, dannach wurden wir gefragt ob wir etwas essen möchten oder nicht. Als wir VERNEINT haben, wurde es wieder entfernt und dass hat nichts mit Hygiene nach CORONA und Anstand zu tun. Macht man dass nun generell? Die Cocktails haben auch aufgeschlagen, was man verstehen könnte, wenn auch die Qualität noch stimmen würde.

Food is okay and the drinks are really cheap and quite good. Unfortunately, when we asked about tap water we got a no, and when we paid we realized that a 75cl bottle cost 8 euros. In addition, we had to pay 1 euro for an extra mini tortilla. 8 euros for water is really a bit too much. I can understand that the cheapest drinks then increase the prices of food and Andrews but it's still really intense. For drinks and stuff it's not bad at all but for food and other things it's just too expensive for the quality. After two visits yesterday I would go somewhere else for Mexican food.

On a sunny day, you could have food in the outside terrace. Good service. Enchiladas are decent.

Food ok but not overwhelming - if it weren't for the plastic residue (from a sticker on the vegetables?). I kindly pointed this out to the waiter, he took the parts with him and sent them to his colleague, who simply collected the money without comment and without any form of apology. It's a shame, but if you don't even think it's necessary to apologize for plastic in your food, we just won't come anymore.

Reservierung war völlig umsonst, wir mussten trotzdem eine halbe Stunde warten mit allen anderen Gästen welche nciht reserviert hatten. Es war zu laut zum unterhalten und man hat lange auf die Essenskarten sowie das Essen warten müssen. Kellner waren so sehr gestresst…

The meal was okay. Charging 8 euros for a 0.75l bottle of Dürrheimer mineral water borders on usury. 1200% gross markup is very excessive.

A cozy restaurant with great cuisine. We had three dishes for lunch and tapas once, everything was very tasty. At the beginning there was a small appetizer on the house. The cocktails also taste very good and it's happy hour all the time. Definitely worth a visit.

Ich hatte Chili con carne und überbackene Nachos mit Bohnenmus und Käse. Was soll ich sagen, der Hunger trieb es rein. Chilli sehr fade und dünn. Nachos für 17€ völlig überbezahlt. Alles in allem sehr enttäuschend.

Wir hatten Mittags hier gegessen: Mola verde, Tacos und Fajitas. Während der Service sehr freundlich war und das bestellte Essen schnell gebracht wurde, war die Qualität für den Preis (z.b. 25 Euro für Chicken Fajitas) nicht okay. Es fehlten die frischen mexikanischen Aromen wie Chili, Koriander, Limette etc. Leider ein bisschen lieblos.

sehr gut! aber zu wenig sauce zum Gemüse. Mal wieder wie an vielen Orten so Mitleids Deko Portionen. Die Weizentortilla vegetarisch viel zu wenig sättigend, deshalb hab ich nun vom Essen Punkte abgezogen. Vegetarisch bedeutet, dass man mehr nahrhqftes braucht und nicht den Salat dann noch auf den Teller, während die Fleischesser ne größere Portion haben UND nen extra Salat noch dazu. Voll verqueere Logik. aber sonst hat der Koch bei Fajita Gemüse wirklich hervorragende Arbeit geleistet. Bravo!

Sehr freundlicher Service und sehr gutes Essen. Obwohl wir zu Silvester keine Reservierung hatten wurden wir sehr zuvirkommend bedient. Absolut zu empfehlen!

Freundliche Bedienungen, ohne Reservierung einen Tisch bekommen. Jedoch war der als "unser Klassiker mit mehr Fleisch" angepriesene Burger eher ein burger wie von einem billig lieferdienst mit fertig bulette und fertig Brötchen eher ein Reinfall. Wo das "mehr" Fleisch war wissen wir auch nicht. Der ketchup war leider ein Gewürz ketchup. Die chesadillas suchten ihren sauer rahm vergeblich auf dem Teller und das Gewürz war nicht wirklich mexikanisch. Für uns leider ein sehr teurer Reinfall in Freiburg.

Das Essen war lecker und recht schnell da ABER die Preise sind sehr hoch und dafür war wenig im Teller... Ein Burger der lecker war paar Pommes nur und ein Salat Blatt für 15 € und das war das billigste. Ob ich zum Essen da nochmal hingehe weiß ich nicht. Dafür sind die Cocktails top mit fairen Preisen.

A nice place for a good Mexican meal. Don't expect tex Mex but very tasty. Very popular and reservations may be required as there are only 39 table tops. Our server arranged to seat us and serve us in a gap between reservations. Prices were very reasonable.

Super average Mexican foods and…. Pretty expensive. I accidentally found the place bc it was located nearby the hotel i stayed in, and was pretty full inside, luckily we still got a table. Got a piña colada (8,5/10) as a drink, was really nice, i liked it. And got a grilled paprika (7,8/10) as appetizer, it was fine, nothing special. But the aioli and bread which come with was great. I got Enchiladas con Pollo (7,5/10) hmm i ate better Enchiladas already, and i felt this one was really simple made, less seasonings, less love inside, something was missing. I think the price was paying the portion bc it was really alot, but not a flavor, sadly. Got Eiskaffee (7,7/10) as a dessert, was over sweet for my taste. Waitress were all friendly though.

Die Atmosphäre ist etwas laut, aber die leckeren Drinks zu günstigen Preisen und die grosse Auswahl an mexikanischen Snacks (einfach angerichtet, aber ausgezeichnet mundend) kompensieren dies bei weitem. Wir besuchen das El Gallo bei jedem Besuch in Freiburg!

Alle Gerichte unglaublich gut gekocht, sehr netter und schneller Service, tolle Cocktails - unbedingt hier essen gehen! Tipp: als Vorspeise Patatas frittas mit Aioli und dann Quesadillas con pollo.
