Delicious main dishes and nice service. Large portions that fill you up well. As a starter I took a queso de cabra. However, I strongly advise against this as you just end up with a very boring white brine cheese that is really tough and simply doesn't deserve the name "Queso de cabra" on the tapas menu. @Elgallo: Please just don't offer it at all. Or if you have cheese that tastes like goat cheese. Instead, just go for patatas bravas.

I love to dine in here with my friends when we are craving for mexican food. but today we had a bad experience. the waiter was very impolite, we came at 16:10 and they said we only allowed to stay untill 18:00 because tables are reserved then. thinking that we still have 1 and a half hour time to eat and drink we decided to stay. The first waiter took our order for drinks but we needed a little time to decide for food. after 5 minutes the second waiter came and took our order. after almost one hour of waiting for our food the first waiter came to us and told us that we should go because we just ordered only drinks and its almost 18:00. we told him that we already ordered and the second waiter took our order, and it came out that the second waiter forgot to told the kitchen about our order. Our food came one hour late and we literally have to eat fast because we should bill out in less than 30 Minutes. I wasnt able to enjoy the food that I always order here that i really like. when we were going to pay, the third waiter came to bill us out. I noticed that he was charging me for the drink that my friend ordered and he just answered " es ist doch egal". I dont know if my cocktail was same price as what my friend ordered but when it was, he couldve explained it. after we paid he didnt even said thank you or goodbye just like what normal people do. the two starts is for the second waiter who was the only nice person there and took time to apologize for his mistake. We just wanted to have a nice meal after a long day of work. this poor service and bad experience just ruined our evening and brought us in bad mood. I dont think we are coming back here again.

I was actually skeptical at first because of some of my friends' experiences, but I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, the food was delicious, but unfortunately my food arrived cold. Unfortunately the ribs were also a little dry. We were also a large group and unfortunately the kitchen didn't manage to bring the food at anywhere near the same times. While others were almost finished, others hadn't even had any food yet. Basically still very nice service, the ambience is quite okay. I think I'll give the restaurant another chance, but then only with two or a maximum of four people ;)

Das Essen hat immer lecker geschmeckt da waren wir uns alle einig! Aber die Portionen wurden immer weniger! Am 2.Tag bestellten wir 3x den tollen Salat und es kam an den gleichen Tisch unterschiedlich Teller!!! Am Tag zuvor war der Salat groß und mächtig. Wir haben nach gefragt und es wurde ein Löffel sag ich mal, dazu getan. Gleichzeitig mussten wir den zugewiesenen Tisch (6er) wechseln in einen 4er Tisch. Alles gut! Aber es war nur das 2 Personen -STAMMGÄSTE die 2 x die Woche kommen-wie uns nach Nachfrage erklärt wurde sich da breit machten. Schönen Dank auch. Ebenso bekammen die meisten einen Absacker. Wir nur am 1. Tag. Naja haben ja auch nur unser Geld hin gebracht😀Bedienungen waren toll und super nett. Chef schaute auch im größten Trubel nur zu. Jetzt genug. Das Essen war gut.

Good place but I ordered an Aztec soup and it didn't have a tortilla, a basic in that soup, so it comes out a bit due to expectations. On the other hand, we really liked the Mexican dish. The service is very good and attentive since we arrived. I would definitely return.

We've been there twice now. The food tastes very good, you can't complain about anything, the portions are also large, but the prices at the box office are too expensive, but the lunch menu is well priced, you don't have to wait long for your food. Now comes the big adeeeeer, the waitresses seem stressed and are rather unfriendly. The gentleman was even very superficial: we wanted to pay with a card, he came, typed in, put the device in his hand and went to the next guest, the device stopped in the middle, he came and rudely said why we were canceling when I told him that If the device broke off, he laughed and said certainly not! Sorry, but then just stay with the device at the guest's table, as is actually the case!!!

Quite a nice Mexican restaurant that we actually visited as a last resort. The restaurant is well attended, especially by young people. That's a good sign. The menu is quite large and all dishes cost almost the same price. The wine list is quite small, both wines we tried (red Tempranillo and Rioja) were good and relatively cheap. The food came relatively quickly after ordering and was very hot and freshly prepared. you could put together the fajitas yourself. It tasted good and was cheap overall. We had a successful evening. It was a bit annoying that the staff asked every 5 minutes whether everything was OK.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my visit to this restaurant. Even though we ordered fewer additional tortillas (3), we were still charged for them (7!). When we reported this to the waitress, all she said was that she couldn't change the bill, even though the error was obvious and it was admitted that the mistake had been made in the kitchen. This is not good customer service and leaves a bad impression. It's a shame because the food was otherwise okay. But because of the poor service I won't be coming back, not even in birthday groups like before.

The food was okay, except for the chicken which was tough. The service was very poor, because we wanted tap water to drink in addition to the beers, which cost €6 per liter. We ordered two bottles and we didn't even open one. We said that by not opening it, they should keep it and not charge us, and they wouldn't let us. We couldn't take it or return it because they were going to throw it away. They got pretty nasty about it. It's a shame that they charge so much for tap water.

Pretty good mixed cocktails and really great food

The service, the food and the ambience of this quaint little restaurant surprised us completely positively. From the outside it is local, rather unassuming, but still has a cozy outdoor area. The service was phenomenal, the cocktails were delicious and the food was very good. The price-performance ratio is good. We'll come back the next time we visit Freiburg.

Nos topamos con este restaurante ya que estaba al lado del hotel, era tarde y teníamos hambre. Pedimos un mole verde y chuletas de cordero. Los cócteles eran buenos. Camarera que nos atiende también era amable y hablaba inglés. El mole verde era bueno. Porción y sabor. Sin embargo, mis chuletas de cordero y guarnición de judías verdes era demasiado salado. Hizo una queja a la camarera y el plato fue reemplazado. Sin embargo, las nuevas chuletas de cordero estaban mejor condimentadas, pero la calidad de la carne era mala. Probablemente extraje un máximo de 100 gramos de carne en total de mis 4 chuletas. El descanso era solo grasa y huesos. La guarnición de judías verdes, era la misma demasiado salada. Pregunté por el gerente y no hablaba inglés, así que la camarera tradujo mi número. Él era muy poco arrepentido y dijo que probó la comida que le envié antes, estaba bien. No le importa el trozo de grasa y huesos de mi plato ni las judías verdes intactas. ¡Que alguien por favor le otorgue el premio de manager del año! ¡Así que ven aquí bajo tu propio riesgo!

Very good place to go with friends, it had vegan and gluten free options. For me vegan burrito was delicious, also had the scrambled beans! The only bad thing is that the cocktails are very weak, but like all of Europe.

Had overly salted lamb chops and green beans side dish. It was like the kitchen forgot that salt was alrdy added & they added again. They replaced my order but then the meat was poor quality (lots of fats and bones). Barely much meat. Oh the green beans were still overly salty. Manager lacks customer service skills and completely unapologetic. However the waitress serving us was very helpful and spoke good English. So yeah, stay away from the lamb chops.

We had a nice meal. It is ideal if you want fast. When the wait staff had nothing to do, they were probably assigned to walk back and forth to see what needed to be done. We sat on the aisle and 2 people were lugging around the whole time, very uncomfortable. I walk with crutches, when I left and grabbed my crutches tightly, the man who had served us bumped into me from behind. There was no apology yet.

A good Tex-Mex restaurant. Food was prepared very quickly and tasted good. If you're expecting pure, authentic Mexican, you've come to the wrong place. It's a classic Tex-Mex place. Price performance is good and the k COCKTAILS were delicious.

Very expensive. Owner there all the time and stresses his employees like they were robots. When you sit in the front and you see this, you just think “how can they endure that”! Cocktails are great and very cheap. Location is very nice.

Hello dear people, on my way back from Spain, I was in Freiburg as always and stayed overnight in the city hotel. From there it's just a few minutes' walk to the Mexicana "El Gallo". There is no direct comparison to this Mexican cuisine, but my meal was very well prepared, creamy chicken with salad and basmati rice. Very tasty and recommended. Everything was clean and tidy inside and out and the service was extremely friendly! Thanks for that! Attached are a few pictures, because I/we would love to come back!

mit großem Abstand war es wirklich das schlechteste Essen, das ich je in meinem Leben gegessen habe!!! Weder zu Hause noch in einem anderen Restaurant habe ich so minderwertiges, nicht schmackhaftes Essen bekommen!!! Das Dümmste daran ist, dass ich für dieses ziemlich schlechte Experiment 40 Euro zahlen musste, während ich für die Hälfte dieses Betrags ein sehr angenehmes Erlebnis in einem netten Restaurant wie dem Rose hätte haben können. Es tut mir so leid für das Geld und die Zeit, die ich dort verbracht habe, denn ich habe mir sowieso hinterher zu Hause ein paar Eier gemacht, da ich dort nicht essen konnte!!!!

It was ok, but nothing more. Salad poorly dressed, beans tasted like they came straight from the can. So for over 20 euros it's unfortunately not worth the price. Something like cafeteria food. The service was quick and friendly.

Food was okay but the golden days of this restaurant are over and it has become pricey but doesn't match former quality of food and service.

The El Gallo is a great place in Freiburg to drink 1 or 2 beers and 1 Coca Cola in a nice atmosphere. The staff is very nice and accommodating. I can only recommend it and the Schlossberg train station is opposite and takes you to the Kanoneplatz a view (panorama) of the beautiful old town and the Black Forest, Vosges, Rhine plain and the entire Breisgau.

It has now become quite expensive. Nothing is under 20 euros anymore. The cocktails during happy hour have always been quite thin. Today we wanted to eat with two people at one of the tables in the almost empty outdoor area. We were then driven away by the staff with the comment “these tables are for at least 3 people”. We've always enjoyed being there, but apparently we've gotten too good at it in the meantime.

Not friendly service, the waiter didn't even look us in the eye, not even say hello. Disappointment on a Saturday evening but probably a bad time because the food was quite good.

We have been to this restaurant twice now. The first time was fine. The second time we were very disappointed. The homemade lemonade costs 5 euros and 0.5 liters. Sounds great, but unfortunately it's just water with syrup. But nicely prepared. But 5 euros is simply too much for that. The starters were borderline. The Patatas Bravas were almost black and the dip didn't go well with them at all. The main courses were so-so. There was bacon on the burger, which didn't taste good. And the other dish had far too much salad, even though the description didn't say anything about a salad. In general, I find that a lot of finished products are used. Maybe keep the menu smaller and surprise and convince with one or two homemade things. The waiting time was too long. The service staff apologized for this. Generally the service staff was friendly.

There seems to be happy hour for cocktails all day long - it's nice for that. Otherwise, unfortunately not like it was during student times. The dishes cost at least €20, the salad simply had a ready-made sauce on top (at least that's how it seemed). Unfortunately, it doesn't taste like food in Mexico. Charging €6-8 for a bottle of water is quite sporty. It's a shame, the price-performance ratio is simply not right...

First of all, the positive: the food is tasty and the outdoor area offers plenty of seating. The negative: the dishes are actually prepared simply (came after 3 minutes) and now cost over 20 euros across the board. El Gallo used to be more of a student shop, but today the prices have noticeably increased.

We ate very well, huge choice and super abundant dishes. We loved it, we recommend it.

We had, among other things, Mole rojo (chicken in a sauce with chocolate and peanuts) Veracruz-style walleye Tacos El Gallo and Tacos de carne con chorizo Nachos de vegetarianos with mushrooms Plus you don't have to wait long for your food

No. 46 on the menu was a delight and plentiful. Price-performance ratio is absolutely right. We'll be back, despite a lot of traffic in front of the door. So there is something to look at. 😉

Were there as a group of 9. Different dishes all hot and brought at the same time. Impressive in taste. Homemade guacamole, aioli and salsa. Very nice and courteous service. Overall, a very, very good Mexican restaurant and definitely worth a visit!

The drinks are highly recommended (cocktails well mixed). The prices are moderate. The staff is attentive, helpful and friendly. It's usually very crowded, so it's best to reserve in advance. The atmosphere is appealing, as is the ambience. Unfortunately, if you sit outside you will be disturbed by people passing by.

Goed eten lekker en snel, lekkere cocktails, ondanks dat de ober een fout maakte met de rekening kwam hij er zelf achter, we moesten teveel betalen. Incredibly high prices for this quality of food. You eat outside right on the street, but it's okay. Inside is nice. The price-performance ratio used to be good. But for the prices the food is just not worth it, we were very disappointed and won't be going there again.

We had reserved for 6 people. It was then not possible to push the table together, even though there would have been enough space. I have never experienced something like that. But being alone indoors with the best tea was not an option for us. So we changed the restaurant. It's a shame because the restaurant was recommended to us.

El gallo is a very good restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a large selection of Mexican dishes at top prices. A large selection of cocktails are also available at reasonable prices. From our side there is a clear recommendation!

Average Mexican food, nicely prepared, at horrendous prices. The best thing was the dressing on the side salad. Service is just the minimum. Ambience okay, but nothing special.

An absolute overpriced failure! The soupa azteca (fiery tomato soup) tasted okay but was far too small for the price of ten euros! The absolute disappointment was the Quesadilla de pollo for an incredible €21.50 Any wheat tortilla from the supermarket tastes better than this tasteless cardboard box with very little filling and a little salad. The service was quite nice, otherwise I will definitely not visit this restaurant again!

Wir waren vor Jahren Gast in diesem Restaurant - und damals sehr zufrieden. Beim jetzigen Besuch muss ich leider sagen: mit 'mexikanisch' (oder TexMex) hatten die Vegi-Fajitas nichts zu tun! Fade; mit einer 'ital. Gewürzmischung' gewürzt - ne, da kommt keine Freude auf. Die Taco-Chips zur Vorspeise (12.50 EUR!) waren zwar eine RIESENportion, aber die Sauce war wohl aus einem Glas. Die Bedienung war nett-, hatte aber wohl ihren ersten Tag. Keine Ahnung von Service - nicht ihr Fehler; aber sie hätte richtig angelernt werden sollen. Das eine Gedeck ohne zu Fragen abräumen während die andere Partie noch am Essen ist (!) geht nicht. Preislich recht teuer - somit: Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis schlecht. Nicht so schnell wieder. Schade!
